Maywood Studio Designer Spotlight

Nicholas Lapp Nicholas Lapp is a multidisciplined design professional and sewist living in Portland, Oregon with his Corgi Elsie. After decades working in events, society weddings, and contemporary interior design on the East Coast, the native Virginian moved west seeking idyllic garden-growing weather. The flowers in his stunning floral collages are gleaned from his garden and houseplants and from specialty nurseries and seasonal farmer’s markets from San Francisco to Seattle.

His design expertise and love of working with fresh flowers segued into the pave collage photographs showcased online and his Instagram @PDXarbiter. Quilting came naturally to him as he began sewing masks for friends during the pandemic. His photo collages caught the eye of Maywood Studio and his fabric collections were born. Maywood Studio Designer Spotlight

Monique Jacobs Monique Jacobs of Rockford, IL (USA), was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba (Canada). Her love of quilting was nurtured by relatives in Canada who taught her the art of handwork and sewing. She parlayed her degree in mathematics into a genuine understanding of the need for an accurate ¼” seam, squared blocks and precise cutting. Her traditional designs are inspired by fabrics, textiles and tapestries.

Several trips to Europe have resulted in not only new beautiful quilt pattern designs, but also one of her BOM books, Circle of Friends, inspired by Ireland. She was a regular teacher at her local quilt shop for 15 years until her budding quilt design business - Open Gate - steered her career toward a national audience. These days, you can find Monique teaching across the United States at quilt guilds and weekend retreats. Monique’s classes always fill up fast with fans from previous classes and students eager to learn from this talented designer.

Maywood Studio Designer Spotlight

Kris Lammers Many were introduced to Kris Lammers’ special brand of illustration though her work with the Gooseberry Patch cookbook series. A life-long artist with a passion for drawing, Kris’ artwork is a unique blend of technically well-crafted design and crisp detail, complimented by softened shapes, sweet imagery and often a touch of humor. When asked about the appeal for her in designing fabric for quilters, Kris answers, “I love quilters...and I love the camaraderie of this centuries old tradition. Strangers can meet in a quilt shop and become instant friends.

Quilters are artists...their creativity amazes me!”

When she’s not drawing or painting, Kris gathers inspiration wherever she can, often while treasure hunting in junk stores for her other creative outlets - refurbishing furniture and refashioning clothing.

She also adores spending time with her five grandchildren.
