People Historic reunion at Lincoln Presidential Library Medallions from Lincoln hearse to be displayed at Lincoln Presidential Library after 150 years For The Edge Two silver medallions from the hearse that carried Abraham Lincoln to his grave 150 years ago will be reunited at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum next month in a new exhibit about the president’s death and funeral.

The medallions, engraved with the city, date and “In Memoriam A.L.,” have not been together since shortly after Lincoln’s funeral and have not been seen by the public since then. One was found in the archives of a St. Louis library, and the other belongs to a private collector in Texas.

“Until a few months ago, only a handful of people in the entire world knew these historic medallions still existed. Tracking them down and reuniting them for the public to see is incredibly exciting, especially when the nation is commemorating the 150th anniversary of President Lincoln’s death,” said James Cornelius, curator of the presidential library’s Lincoln Collection.

The medallions are just two pieces among dozens in “A Fiendish Assassination,” the exhibit opening April 2 at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.

Many of the items have never before been displayed.

Among the items visitors will see are: • The only surviving photograph of Lincoln in his coffin • Part of a towel stained with Lincoln’s blood

• R o b e r t L i n c o l n ’ s u rg e n t telegrams asking key advisors to rush to Washington • A small American flag with stars spelling out “free.” It adorned a sandwich cart at Lincoln’s funeral • A swan feather sent to Lincoln’s Tomb by Queen Victoria • A handle from one of Lincoln’s caskets The exhibition takes its name from the angry resolution approved by a town – its name now unknown – condemning the “fiendish assassination” of the president. That resolution is one of the items the public will be able to see for the first time ever.

Robert E. Lee surrendered on April 9, 1865, and Lincoln made what proved to be his final speech on April 11. He was shot on April 14 and died early the next day.

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum is marking the 150th anniversary of all these events with an array of exhibitions and special events throughout April.

“A Fiendish A ssassination” opens April 2 and runs until early July. It complements the museum’ s on goin g “U n dyin g Words” exhibition, which examines Lincoln’s greatest speeches but also includes more than a dozen other items related to his murder, including his deathbed and artifacts linked to assassin John Wilkes Booth.

Until recently, historians thought

the medallions were lost in an 1887 fire that destroyed the hearse that carried Lincoln’s body to Springfield’s Oak Ridge Cemetery.

But it turns out the hearse’s owner had removed the medallions and passed them along to other people.

One found its way to the St. Louis Mercantile Library at the University of Missouri - St. Louis. Ian Hunt, a historian at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation, tracked it down.

That led James Cornelius, curator of the presidential library’s Lincoln Collection, to scour records for anything about a second medallion.

He found a mention of it being offered years ago to a private collector. Cornelius located the seller, who led him to the private Harlan Crow Library in Dallas, Texas. Both institutions agreed to lend their medallions to the presidential library.

“This is a wonderful example of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum’s mission: to do serious research on Lincoln and then share those findings with the public,” said Executive Director Eileen Mackevich.

“These medallions, and the entire exhibition, will help our visitors connect with the nation’s greatest president.”

The St. Louis region's only bicycle ride dedicated to a love of slapstick comedy and love of pedaling along stretches of country roads is back.

It's where the rubber chicken meets the road.

On Saturday, May 2, the Tour de Stooges bicycle ride will be held, returning to the area we called home for our first 10 years at McKendree University in Lebanon, Ill. Advance registration is available at tourdestooges.com.

Holbrook to portray Twain

"Live It Out Loud" Gala planned

St. Louis Ovarian Cancer Awareness (SLOCA) is hosting their annual “Live It Out Loud” Gala on Saturday evening, March 28, 2014 in the Grand Lobby of the Edward Jones Corporate Headquarters in Des Peres, Missouri. This annual fundraising event will take place from 5:30 until 10:00 pm.

The theme for the 2015 Gala is "Life is Your Journey - Live it Out Loud", reflecting the healing path traveled by each ovarian cancer survivor. Julie Tristan, of KSDK’s “Show Me St. Louis”, will serve as the Master of Ceremonies.

The 2015 Teal Spirit Award will be given to Salsich family members, who lost a mother and daughter to the disease. Through the family's fundraising efforts, the SalsichHoehn Foundation previously donated $20,000 to SLOCA. Ovarian cancer survivor Sandy Sullivan will be the Keynote Speaker. A video presentation featuring survivors and others personally affected by ovarian cancer will be shown.

T h e 2 0 1 5 G a l a i s S L O C A’ s signature fundraiser, and the monies raised will allow SLOCA to meet its threefold mission - increasing ovarian cancer survivorship by promoting awareness of early warning signs and standards of care, funding ovarian cancer research, and supporting survivors.

“The Munsters” are coming to Greenville Car Show

It may look like Halloween in June as two of the stars of the classic television show “The Munsters” will be the celebrity guests at this year’s Greenville (Illinois) Graffiti Car Show. Butch Patrick (Eddie Munster) and Pat Priest (Marilyn Munster) will meet fans and sign autographs on Saturday, June 20 during the show. Replicas of the Munster Koach and Dragula, prominently featured on the program, will also be making an appearance.

to 1990 and older cars and trucks for judging. Vehicles may also be brought for display. For the first time, motorcycles may be brought for display only. Last year’s event attracted nearly 190 cars and trucks to downtown Greenville, Illinois.

Munster, made him a TV icon. In the early 1970s Patrick was the star of “Lidsville”, a quirky Saturday morning show produced by Sid and Marty Krofft.

Priest took over the role of Marilyn Munster in the show’s 16th episode. Perhaps her best known role outside of “The Munsters” came in 1967 when she co-starred with Elvis Presley in the movie “Easy Come, Easy Go”. She was also a guest on other iconic programs like “Perry Mason”, “Bewitched” and “Mission Impossible”.

Car show organizers are excited to have the Munster Koach and Drag-ula on display that day. The original vehicles were the creation of George Barris, a legendary designer and maker of cars used in television shows and movies. The Munster Koach, Herman Munster’s preferred method of transportation, was created from three Model T bodies.

The Drag-ula, built by Grandpa Munster and used by Herman in a classic episode of the show, was made using a real fiberglass coffin.

This is a rare opportunity to see television history in person.

Butch Patrick, Pat Priest, the Munster Koach, and the Drag-ula may also be seen at the Munster’s Ball, a special event to be held on Friday, June 19 at the American Farm Heritage Museum in Greenville. This ticketed event includes a question and answer session with the stars, photo opportunities, food, and other fun. Fans of the 1960s classic comedy “The Munsters” will have two opportunities in June to meet Butch Patrick and Pat Priest, co-stars of the show. Along with signing autographs at the 4th annual Greenville Graffiti Car Show on Saturday, June 20, the duo will be the special guests at The Munsters’ Ball on Friday, June 19.

Patrick and Priest, who portrayed Eddie and Marilyn Munster, will greet fans, pose for photos, and answer questions from the crowd at the Munsters’ Ball. This special ticketed event will also include appetizers, a “Dress Like Your Favorite Munster” contest, the showing of a classic episode of the program, and a dance with a DJ. Sherry Schaefer, one of the organizers of The Munsters’ Ball, said, “We are looking forward to providing an entertaining evening for the whole family. You can dance to Munster inspired music, dine on ghoulish finger foods (not made from actual fingers) and enjoy a rare opportunity to hang out with the members of the iconic Munster family.”

Symphony, Nine Network team up

In a unique partnership, the Nine Network of Public Media and the St. Louis Symphony have combined resources to produce a new, monthly television series, Night at the Symphony. It will be broadcast

on Nine PBS on the first Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. beginning January 5, 2015, and rebroadcast the following Sunday at 3:00 p.m. beginning January 11.

Nine episodes will air in 2015.

The hour-long programs will highlight specially selected St. Louis Symphony performances from the 2014–2015 season, as well as encore presentations of concert specials produced since 2012.

“This is the only partnership of its kind in the nation between a public television station and a symphony orchestra,” said Patrick Murphy, vice president of production for the Nine Network.

“The opportunity to bring the experience of one of the world’s finest orchestras into every home in our region shows what is possible when cultural institutions work together for the benefit of the community.”

People People planner Missouri History Museum to exhibit Nazi Propaganda

The Nazi Party developed a sophisticated propaganda m a c h i n e t h a t d e f t l y s p re a d l i e s a b o u t i t s p o l i t i c a l opponents, Jews, and the need to justify war. But Nazi propaganda was much more complex than that. For the Nazis to achieve power and pursue their racial policies and expansionist war efforts, a much more nuanced picture had to be painted—one that would appeal to broad swaths of the population, not just a fanatical extreme.

Featuring rarely seen artifacts, State of Deception: The Power of Nazi Propaganda draws visitors into a rich multimedia environment vividly illustrating the insidious allure of much of Nazi propaganda. The exhibition opens at the Missouri History Museum in Forest Park on April 11, 2015 and will be on display through September 7, 2015.

“Adolf Hitler was an avid student of propaganda and borrowed techniques from the Allies in World War I, his Socialist and Communist rivals, the Italian Fascist Party, as well as modern advertising,” says exhibition curator Steven Luckert. “Drawing upon these models, he successfully marketed the Nazi Party, its ideology, and himself to the German people.”

T h e e x h i b i t i o n re v e a l s h o w s h o r t l y a f t e r Wo r l d War I, the Nazi Party began to transform itself from an obscure, extremist group into the largest political party in democratic Germany. Hitler early on recognized how propaganda, combined with the use of terror, could help his radical party gain mass support and votes. He personally adapted the ancient symbol of the swastika and the emotive colors of red, black, and white to create the movement’s flag. In doing so, Hitler established a potent visual identity that has branded the Nazi Party ever since.

After seizing power, the Nazi Party took over all communications in Germany. It marshaled the state’s resources to consolidate power and relentlessly promote its vision of a “racially pure,” utopian Germany that needed to defend itself from those who would destroy it. Jews were cast as the primary enemies, but others, including Roma, homosexuals, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and mentally and physically disabled persons, were also portrayed as threats to the “national community.”

A s G e r m a n y p u s h e d t h e w o r l d i n t o w a r, N a z i propaganda rationalized Germany’s territorial expansion as self-defense. Jews were depicted as agents of disease and corruption. The Nazis’ actions against them, in Germany and occupied countries, were promoted as necessary measures to protect the population at large.

The Missouri History Museum has been active in the St. Louis community since 1866. Founding members established the organization “for the purpose of saving from oblivion the early history of the city and state.” Today, the Missouri History Museum seeks to deepen the understanding of past choices, present circumstances, and future possibilities; strengthen the bonds of the community; and facilitate solutions to common problems. Due to its innovative approach to public service, the Missouri History Museum was the first recipient of the Institute of Museum and Library Services National Award for Museum Services in 1994. The Missouri History Museum offers programs and outreach services, including traveling exhibitions; tours; theatrical and musical presentations; programs for school classes and youth groups; family festivals; special events; workshops; and lectures.

The Missouri History Museum is funded by the S t . L o u i s C i t y a n d C o u n t y t a x p a y e r s t h ro u g h t h e Metropolitan Zoological Park and Museum District and by private donations. The Museum is open seven days a week with general admission always free. The Missouri History Museum in Forest Park also operates the Library and Research Center at 225 South Skinker Boulevard near the Washington University campus.

"Focus"

If the mark of a good con artist is that he or she makes you think you know exactly what's going on — when of course you haven't a clue — that's also the mark of a good con-artist movie, isn't it? To make you feel like you totally get what's about to happen — "Oh yeah, I've seen this in tons of movies," you think — and then, boom. That's not what happens at all.

See, you lost your focus for a second.

"It's about distraction," explains Nicky, the con artist played

by Will Smith in "Focus," the consistently entertaining new film by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa ("Crazy, Stupid, Love.").

And that's what the filmmakers do to us, too — they distract us more than once by making us think we're watching a predictable, even silly story. We're lured into feeling smarter than the movie — until we're not. Damn! How did we miss that?

Of course, deft plot twists aren't enough. A con-artist movie has to make you find something sympathetic in the artist. And here, the film centers on a romance, so we need to be able to invest in that as well. Luckily, Smith and relative newcomer Margot Robbie ("The Wolf of Wall Street") generate believable heat together while also appealing to us individually, and so we care what happens to them — even as we keep changing our minds as to which one we should care about most.

Smith's Nicky and Robbie's Jess meet cute in New York, where the gorgeous Jess is trying to escape from a creepy guy at the bar. They end up in Jess' hotel room, where suddenly they're caught in the act by Jess' jealous, gun-toting "husband."

Only, Nicky figures out right away it's a scam ("You should have waited until my pants were off," he admonishes the amateur pair). Jess realizes she's met a real pro. "Tutor me," she pleads.

We next find the two at a football championship in New Orleans, where Nicky and his crew are planning to scam as many fans as possible. Jess shows up, and wants in. In an extended street pickpocketing sequence, she shows herself to have not just ambition and gumption, but also real talent.

RATED: R by the Motion Picture Association of America "for language, some sexual content and brief violence."

RUNNING TIME: 104 minutes.

"Cinderella"

In this age of revisionist, modernized Disney fairytales, where we've learned that some of our favorite characters really aren't what they seemed, the striking thing about the studio's sumptuous new live-action "Cinderella" may not be what it is, but what it isn't.

It isn't revisionist. It isn't modernized. The good guys are still good, the bad still bad. Prince Charming? Still VERY charming, not a "Frozen"-style cad. And the evil stepmother? She's not, like Angelina Jolie's Maleficent, merely misunderstood; As embodied by Cate Blanchett, she remains evil to the core. (Though it must be said: Evil has never looked quite so fabulous.)

What "Cinderella" IS, though, is touching, visually stunning, and very satisfying. Director Kenneth Branagh, working with a high-wattage cast led by the winsome and genuine Lily James, sticks to tried-and-true narrative formula, and infuses it with wit and style. If the glass slipper ain't broke, he seems to be saying, why fix it?

A prologue shows us Cinderella's childhood, as a little girl named Ella — a lovely thing who's kind to all, and has a way of communing with animals. She lives in a rambling country home with her loving parents (Hayley Atwell, Ben Chaplin), and all is perfect until, of course, Cinderella's mother takes ill and dies.

It won't be long before Dad, so sweet but so inexplicably clueless, will take up with the widowed Lady Tremaine,

In short, Blomkamp makes action-heavy sci-fi that's animated by political ideas and frustrated urgency more than most Hollywood science fiction combined. It's deservedly won him a following, as well as the helm to the next "Alien" film.

"Chappie," too, is more spirited, more bizarrely composed than most, but its oddly jumbled machinery never clicks.

The logic of "Chappie" gradually disintegrates, becoming increasingly farcical. Eventually, characters are speaking lines as finely scripted as: "I have authorized the launch of the Moose."

Dev Patel ("Slumdog Millionaire") plays a wide-eyed, ambitious engineer named Deon whose droids have already become the front lines of Johannesburg's police force. But he dreams of making a fully human robot, even though his boss, the CEO of a weapons company (Sigourney Weaver) shrugs that there's no money in it. A few cubicles down from him sits a rival engineer (Jackman), whose gargantuan, heavy artillery "Moose" machine has been outshined by Deon's more nimble, human-like "Scouts."

"Danny Collins"

"I was the real thing once," opines Al Pacino's rock star protagonist Danny Collins in a moment of late-in-life crisis.

It's true, the movie, also called "Danny Collins," opens with a 1971-set prologue where a young, "The Panic in Needle Park"-

era Pacino lookalike sits, trembling, for what looks like his first interview. Having just released the perfect Bob Dylan-meetsTim Buckley folk album, Danny tells the reporter that John Lennon is his real hero and worries that fame and wealth will change him as an artist.

Cut to the present, and Danny Collins is a human jukebox with a stadium-sized audience of grey-haired men and women. His guitar and his soulful folk warbling have been replaced by a fake tan, shoe-polish hair, jazzy backup singers and a flashy production that's dripping with cheese as he belts out one of his biggest hits "Hey Baby Doll"— an anthem that's almost distractingly similar to "Sweet Caroline."

He's not happy, though. He has fame, fortune, an infinite supply of cocaine and shirts that only button up half way, and a fiancee who's more than half his age, but something is missing. When his longtime manager (Christopher Plummer in a prefect sidekick role) presents him with a long-lost letter from John Lennon (and Yoko), telling him that fame doesn't have to destroy a person and to call him sometime, Danny goes off in search for his essence in earnest.

RATED: R by the Motion Picture Association of America for "violence, some nudity and language."

RUNNING TIME: 106 minutes.

"The Divergent Series: Insurgent"

Given that conformity is the scourge of the "Divergent" series and much of its young-adult ilk, it's a shame that the films, including the new "Insurgent," do so little to stray from well-worn YA paths.

For a series that waves the banner of individualism, they make a poor case for it. Instead of throbbing with a teenage spirit of rebellion — or things like youthful wildness, humor or sex — the two "Divergent" movies are curiously content to eke out a rigid, lifeless fable in drab futuristic environs.

The answer, here, to the question of what are you rebelling against isn't "Whaddya got?" but the slightly less visceral "An elaborate, highly metaphorical dystopian system of militaristic control."

But even faint, fantastical whiffs of teen insurrection carry enough potency to drive feverish young audiences. Why? Much of it has to do with the stars.

Say what you will about YA movies, but they've been an efficient star-making machine that's produced Jennifer Lawrence, Kristen Stewart and Shailene Woodley. We should be happy to have them: good actresses all, who easily lead their respective films over their male counterparts.

The YA men aren't as fine a bunch but here include the hunky Theo James and the excellent Miles Teller. Predictably providing "Insurgent" with its only lively, comedic moments, Teller looks as if he didn't get the note that all must be sullen and serious.

A quick summary. Based on Veronica Roth's trilogy of best-selling novels, the "Divergent" films are set in a walled, post-apocalyptic Chicago, where survivors are ritualistically sorted into five factions. Every 16-year-old is tested for which faction suits them, and then must choose one and remain there forever.

Tris (Woodley) chose Dauntless, who are known for their bravery and, it seems, their proclivity for train hopping. But her test revealed her to be "divergent" — someone who has no dominant characteristic but a plethora — and this makes her uncontrollable.

RATED: PG-13 for "intense violence and action throughout, some sensuality, thematic elements and brief language."

RUNNING TIME: 118 minutes.

"Cinderella" stunning in IMAX

By ROBERT GRUBAUGH Of The Edge This weekend’s surprise hit release of Cinderella was noteworthy for a couple of reasons.

It’s quite beautifully shot and I can’t recommend the IMAX format enough. It’s lush and colorful.

It’s neat to see a picture that is a live action adaptation of a Disney classic. It may not be animated, but there are plenty of special effects featuring mice, a pumpkin, and some really awesome glass slippers, but for me it was the inclusion of the music and the Bippity-BoppityBoo that really made the whole thing a success.

Lily James, the young actress that plays scandalous Cousin Rose on

Downton Abbey, is the star of this picture and she does admirably holding her own against a wicked Cate Blanchett as the wicked stepmother, Lady Tremaine. Even the Fairy Godmother (Helena Bonham Carter) is a talented actresses with just enough zest behind her eyes to leave a mark on a role that’s been done a million times before. Holliday Grainger, Sophia McShera (another Downton alum), Game of Thrones’ Robb Stark (Richard Madden), and Stellan Skarsgard, round out the ensemble cast.

That Cinderella will be a hit with audiences doesn’t fool too many people, especially not the dozens of tulle-clad princesses that were in the theatres this weekend with their

mums and dads checking it out.

Also making a cameo appearance?

Anna and Elsa in “Frozen Fever”, a short cartoon that precedes the feature and reminds us that Disney is going to bring back their hit franchise in the near future. If you love Olaf and Sven the Reindeer, or just being reminded of how badly John Travolta pronounced Idina Menzel’s name at the 2014 Oscars, rejoice!

Cinderella runs 105 minutes and is rated PG for mild thematic elements. I give this film two and a half stars out of four.

••• The other main attraction in cinemas this weekend was Run All Night, a low-key thriller featuring Liam Neeson in the role he seems only destined to play from here on

out: the man-against-odds killer that he already showed us in Walk Among the Tombstones and in three Taken films, the first one of which was a monster that holds up well.

The big difference between his similar characters in the past and Jimmy Conlon, is that Jimmy is a crook with no future and no skills besides being the bagman for his connected buddy (Ed Harris).

He’s also the deadbeat father to Michael (Joel Kinnaman, last year’s Robocop), a near-victim who owes a debt to his deadbeat father only in that the older fella goes out of his way to keep him alive and take down as many of his enemies he can in one rousing night that bleeds not just blood, but also neon

lighting and techno music.

Genre favorites Bruce McGill a n d Vi n c e n t D ’ O n o f r i o h a v e small, inconsequential parts, but take it or leave it, there’s no hidden meaning behind Run All Night. You’re going to see running gun battles, shameful gangster life, and casual disregard for the innocent. Thankfully, nothing the same can be said for next week’s Insurgent, though I’m not sure I can even remember enough from the screening I saw to accurately review it for you next week. We shall see.

Run All Night runs 117 minutes and is rated R for strong violence, language including sexual references, and some drug use. I give this film one star out of four.

The Arts For The Edge Actors are not robots, Hollywood evidence aside.

But over the last decade, Annamaria Pileggi, professor of the practice in drama at Washington University in St. Louis, has worked with a small interdisciplinary team to explore how movement-training techniques drawn from theater might help real-life computer scientists improve human/robot interactions (HRI).

Beginning Thursday, March 26, Pileggi will put those theories to the test with “Sky Sky Sky.” The world premiere drama, written by alumna Elizabeth Birkenmeier (LA ’08), features three human actors and one fully functioning, custom-

programmed PR2 robot, on loan from Oregon State University.

“This is not a person in a costume, or a special effect, or something that just happens in the background,” said Pileggi, who will direct the show in the A.E. Hotchner Studio Theatre through March 29. “Our goal is to have a robot function as a true character. It has a very specific role, with very specific actions.

“If we’re able to pull this off, I think it’s going to be very poignant and evocative.”

Theory of physical action Pileggi’s interest in robotics dates back to 2004, when Jared Mackey, a student studying both theater and computer science, introduced her to Bill Smart, then associate professor in the School of Engineering & Applied Science.

“Bill was intrigued by the idea that movement training exercises, or Jerzy Grotowski’s theory of

physical action, could be used to help program HRI,” Pileggi said.

“We actually created a piece, using only the robot’s physical vocabulary, in which one actor tried to get forgiveness from another.”

Over the next several years, Pileggi and her actors — along with Smart and David Lu, then a graduate student in computer science and engineering at Washington University — presented the piece here, titled “Forgiveness,” and participated in HRI conferences at Stanford and in Osaka, Japan.

“We performed a version with the human actor playing the robot and then a version with the robot playing its own role,” Pileggi said.

“People actually felt more empathy for the robot.

“They understood the robot’s limitations,” she said. “They saw it was doing the best it could.”‘Sky Sky Sky’ For Pileggi and Smart, PhD, who is now associate professor of mechanical engineering at Oregon State, the next step was both obvious and dauntingly ambitious: a full-length stage performance featuring a robot as a primary, emotionally resonant character. Birkenmeier, a freelance playwright who’d been one of the original “Forgiveness” actors, was commissioned by the Performing Arts Department in Arts & Sciences to write the play.

“Liza is doing quite a lot of work in New York, so we were really lucky to get her,” Pileggi said. “We talked a lot, and were fascinated by the image of a robot caring for someone in a nursing home. I think that’s the kind of work robots eventually will be targeted for — caring for the very old and the

very young, the most vulnerable members of our society.”

T h e s t o r y, s e t i n t h e y e a r 2062, centers on Joan, an elderly woman suffering from dementia, who has been brought to what is euphemistically known as an “exit facility.” In flashback, we see the young Joan fleeing northern Ohio’s infamous “Tornado Alley”; her tumultuous relationship with fellow vagabond Madrid; and the couple’s adoption of an orphaned child.

“Throughout her life, Joan has encountered storms both literal and figurative,” Pileggi said. “Now, at the end of her days, she no longer recognizes her own granddaughter, Harbor, but we see her bonding with the robot. She is able to project the kind of stable, caring relationship that she’s never actually experienced.

“There’s a moment when Joan has trouble eating,” Pileggi said.

“The robot supports her arms and helps maintain her dignity while her own granddaughter takes the fork away.

“It’s a very human thing,” Pileggi said. “You understand Harbor ’s sense of loss, her anger and grief. She is struggling just as anyone who’s ever watched a loved one become a stranger has struggled.”

But for Joan, the robot represents a kind of security, a blank slate onto which hopes and needs can be safely projected.

“It’s incredibly moving,” Pileggi said. “I would challenge anyone to watch this play and not feel empathy — both for Joan and for the robot.”

Cast and crew The cast of three features senior Kiki Milner as both the young Joan and Dr. Lowe, who oversees the exit facility. Senior Jae DeBerry plays Madrid and Harbor. Veteran St. Louis actress Sally Eaton is the elder Joan and Mauve, Joan’s legal guardian.

Compagnie Käfig is the brainchild of Mourad Merzouki, a native of Lyon, France who studied martial arts and circus arts as a child and was influenced by hip-hop as a teen.

For The Edge The Mill on Route 66 in Lincoln, Illinois Launches International Indiegogo Crowd Funding Campaign to Complete Restoration & Open as a Museum The Route 66 Heritage Foundation of Logan County has launched an Indiegogo.com crowd funding campaign to finish restoring the famous Mill Restaurant on Route 66 in Lincoln, IL into a museum, featuring a collection of items representing Route 66 in Logan County. The campaign runs for 40 days and ends on April 25, 2015. The goal for completing the renovation work is in time for the annual October celebration in 2015.

The Mill is considered a prime example of early American roadside architecture and is one of the few buildings in the area still standing from that era.

Opening the Mill will add to the number of Route 66 visitors and increase both civic pride and economic development in this rural, central Illinois community.

In 2006, a group of volunteers formed the 501(c)(3) tax-deductible foundation to help save The Mill. A great deal has been accomplished on the building, with over $50,000 raised so far – including a new roof, new and replacement windows and restoration of the downstairs floor and foundation. Local volunteers and members of the Route 66 Association of Illinois preservation committee have made great strides in the work so far. But there is still much to do.

First, a contractor must be hired to finish wiring the facility for electricity. The walls need to be insulated from the inside and the large holes and damaged floor behind the bar area downstairs and the front area upstairs need to be replaced. As a special treat that night, his manager ’s children dressed in Dutch costumes with wooden shoes and passed out roses to all of the patrons. The eatery was constructed by local contractors in the shape of a small Dutch windmill with sails on the front.

to her husband, Albert. He, nevertheless, ended up helping to run the establishment. The Huffmans obtained, at no cost, an old Army barracks from Fort Ellis in Ipava, IL, and attached it to the back of the existing building. The restaurant could now accommodate the addition of a bar, and The Mill quickly gained in popularity.

One of the restaurant's claims to fame was its fried schnitzel, originally made of veal and later of pork. Louise “Mom” Rofschansky brought the original viener schnitzel recipe with her from Austria. The cook introduced the sandwich to Blossom, who Americanized it and made it a Mill specialty. The Huffmans ran the restaurant and bar until it closed in 1996.

“I always like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped with The Mill since we saved it from destruction back in 2006 with coordination from the city of Lincoln,” said Geoff Ladd of the Route 66 Heritage Foundation.

“I particularly want to thank some very special individuals – Larry Van Bibber for his generous donation, the late Ernie Edwards for his insistence, the late Mike Fak for the flooring, John Weiss for his mentoring, two very special anonymous donors (one of whom contributed our new Mill logo and t-shirts), all past and present board members, and all the generosity provided by the local media,” said Ladd. The Mill remains under the auspices of the private foundation, Route 66 Heritage Foundation of Logan County, a group of dedicated volunteers. Religion People planner Cardinal Dolan says Cardinal Egan was 'a gift' to church

NEW YORK (AP) — Cardinal Timothy Dolan says the life of his predecessor, Cardinal Edward Egan, was "a gift" to the church.

Dolan addressed a packed St. Patrick's Cathedral at the beginning of Egan's funeral Mass. He said a Latin phrase summarized Cardinal Egan's Life: "Delexit Ecclesiam -- He loved the church."

The ceremony got off to a noisy start with drummers and bagpipers from New York City's police and fire departments accompanying a funeral procession along the streets of midtown Manhattan.

In the packed cathedral, amid construction scaffolding, solemn church music took over. Several hundred Catholic clergy walked slowly down the center aisle toward Egan's draped casket at the foot of the altar. They joined nearly 2,500 mourners packing the venerable cathedral.

Egan led the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York for

almost a decade. He died March 5 after a heart attack.

Judge dismisses suit over Oklahoma Ten Commandments monument

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of a privately funded Ten Commandments monument on the grounds of Oklahoma's state Capitol.

The lawsuit filed by the group American Atheists and two of its members alleged that the monument violated the First Amendment's prohibition of government sanctioning a specific religion, as well as other constitutional rights. U.S. District Judge Robin Cauthron ruled that the group lacked legal standing to file the lawsuit.

Cauthron's decision was hailed by Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt, whose office defended the monument.

He said, "The historical relevance of the Ten Commandments and the role it played in the founding of our nation cannot be

Maine state senator apologizes for Facebook post about Obama

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — A Maine state senator has apologized for a Facebook post that suggests that President Barack Obama's family members are part of the Islamic State group.

Republican Sen. Michael Willette shared a photo of Obama that pretended to use the president's words, saying of the Islamic State group, "I'll deal with them at the family reunion."

Willette apologized and called it an "error in judgment."

He said in a statement that he "fell into the trap" of posting something before thinking about it.

Music Tuning in Stirling to perform at The Fox

Elect ronic violinist Lindsey Stirling, will take her critically acclaimed live show on the road with her highly anticipated North American 2015 Summer Tour.

scene going on,� then explodes into the urgent, tightly-coiled funk of “Don’t Wanna Fight.� Long instrumental intros and passages create hazy atmosphere, and then the intensity of Howard’s vocals snaps everything back into riveting focus.

The songs were written during breaks in the grueling touring schedule of a young band, sometimes by the members together and sometimes by Howard working alone at her home studio.

She notes that there were several dedicated writing periods during the past year, but that “sometimes I wasn’t dedicating enough time, so I’d binge-write, sit in the basement and work for 18 hours for five days straight.�

Something as simple as a bowl of cereal is enough to get your day off to a good start.

For The Edge It’s been called the most important meal of the day--and for good reason. The documented benefits of eating breakfast include boosting brain power, improving nutrient intakes and revving up metabolism.

And while 93% of Americans believe that fueling an empty tank every morning is important, less than half jumpstart the day this way, according to the United States Department of Agriculture.

St Louis District Dairy Council is aiming to help make the morning meal a reality with their new effort “Build a Better Breakfast with Milk.” The awareness campaign is launching in March, which is National Nutrition Month.

“Breakfast is the first nutrition opportunity of the day – a chance to get in some important foods that may be lacking in our diets, like dairy foods, fruits, and whole grains. These foods pack a powerful punch of vitamins, minerals, protein, and fiber. Research shows that breakfast-skippers may not make up these nutrients later in the day,’ notes St. Louis District Dairy Council registered dietitian Erin Rich.

While the USDA statistics suggest Americans are “in the know” about the nutritional need for breakfast, they may be lacking in another area--time. Morning schedules can make for hectic households, with families rushing out the door for

work, school and errands. “Time is a prized commodity, but you can pack speed, convenience and health into your morning meal,” says Rich. “Choosing milk at breakfast, whether in a glass, on cereal, or mixed in a smoothie, is a simple way to add great taste in a matter of seconds. And milk is the #1 source of calcium and potassium in the diet, so you’re boosting bone and heart health, along with fueling up.”

What is the best choice for the morning meal? According to experts, a meal high in protein may do the best job of curbing hunger and providing a feeling of “fullness” or satiety.

“One cup of milk has 8 grams of high-quality protein, which is as much as an egg. Whether on its own as an instant fuel, or paired with whole wheat toast and peanut butter, milk can help keep you feeling satisfied until lunchtime,” offers Rich.

The staying power of milk’s protein isn’t the only benefit of making it part of your morning routine. The Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend that adults and children ages 9 and older include three servings of dairy food in their daily eating plan. On average, Americans are coming up short by getting only about two servings. “Adding one serving of milk during breakfast provides nine essential nutrients in an easy and affordable way,” notes Rich. When it comes to delivering great taste and nutrition in a pinch, milk is a great multi-tasker. It’s the real deal.”
