Spots: More than a space Take a step inside Abofour Spot, located in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

Spots are local innovation hubs where community teams come together to create the futures they want to see, through education, with learners fast becoming the changemakers of tomorrow.

EduSpots works within Ghana Education Service schools, low-cost private schools, community libraries, and Ghana Library Authority libraries, with a flexible model that adapts to a wide range of partnerships.

Meet Edward “Prof” Addae. Once a 12-yearold Spark in EduSpots’ very first Readers’ Club, he is now studying Computer Science while supporting the EduKidz Club and leading his local Spot. communications.

Spots: Led by local changemakers

Some Spots like Abofour have teams of up to 20 voluntary local changemakers named ‘Catalysts’, including many headteachers like Mr Franklin (captured).

Most Catalysts are trained teachers who volunteer with EduSpots. Others are students, proudly leading learning in their own communities.

You’ll also find parents like Joseph and Vida, nurses like Gloria, Assembly Members, chiefs, queen mothers, businesswomen, and many more.

Every Spot is powered by local people who believe in their community’s future.

Spots: Communities leading their own change All Spots are owned by communities reflecting their unique identity and values, as they work towards EduSpots’ vision of uniting to create the futures THEY want to see for their communities, through education.

The Abofour Spot team have painted inspiring designs that help create a welcoming environment for all.

They have created their own logo, Facebook page and Keeping Spots Safe mascot!

Spots: Where leaders grow Being a Catalyst is all about learning, forming friendships and making a difference!

The journey starts with our fun, hands-on Ignite Programme, where Catalysts learn together with changemakers from 12 of the 16 regions of Ghana.

The learning doesn’t stop there! Catalysts connect through live Zoom sessions, WhatsApp for Learning communities, and receive encouragement from education specialists and fellow Catalysts.

They can also dive into EduBytes—bite-sized monthly online courses packed with practical skills, from digital tools and teaching ideas to careers, money management, AI, leadership, and much more. There’s always something new to explore!

The EduSpots App All Catalysts are trained in how to use the EduSpots App, which enables them to access resources, engage with peers and track their own activities and registrations.

Each Spot has a trained Digital Champion who are involved as co-creators and promoters of the EduSpots App in its development journey.

Spots: Learning beyond the curriculum Every Spot chooses the strands of activities they want to take part in.

Some Spots, like Abofour, can’t wait to join everything!

Each month, Catalysts receive a Monthly Challenge kit packed with fun resources and project ideas to help learners explore, create, and solve real-world problems linked to curriculum themes together.

Catalysts send their Challenge entries to staff and peer mentors who share feedback with prize grants to bring new ideas to life.

Catalysts bring learning to life by running clubs for learners called Sparks. Through games, creativity, teamwork, and digital activities, every child gets the chance to learn, play, and shine.

The EduKidz Clubs are where every Spark’s journey begins. Children build confidence in reading, maths, movement, and social skills through joyful activities that celebrate their families, cultures, and communities.

Spots: Growing digital and literacy skills

Across 20 DigitLit clubs, there was a 13% growth in digital confidence across a 10 month period in 2025

Communities know that both digital and literacy skills are foundations for the future.

Using tablets and other digital tools, Sparks learn through fun, hands-on activities that help build their reading and literacy skills. They often work in teams, solving challenges together, sharing ideas, and discovering that learning can be both creative and collaborative.

Spots: Where science meets the planet EcoSTEM Clubs In today’s world, science, technology, engineering, maths, and caring for our planet all go hand in hand.

In EcoSTEM Clubs, Junior High School Sparks investigate, experiment, build, and solve real-world challenges. Along the way, they strengthen their science and maths skills, spark their creativity, and discover how they can help protect the environment for the future.

Spots: Creating more equitable futures Spots have always been spaces that promote universal belonging. In Ignite Equity Clubs, boys and girls come together to stand up for fairness and inclusion.

Sparks grow into confident young leaders as they explore important topics like gender equality, challenging stereotypes, preventing sexual harassment, tackling drug abuse, and ending period poverty.

Ignite Equity For many young people such as Janet, it’s the first step on the journey to becoming a Catalyst and creating positive change in their community.

Period product banks Many Spots have set up and sustained their own period products banks through a local enterprise model, with accompanying community-led destigmatisation focused activities.

Spots: Creating safe spaces for learning Keeping Spots Safe

Creating safe, welcoming places to learn is at the heart of everything we do. That’s why local safeguarding champions like Mr Franklin play such an important role in every Spot.

Together with parents, learners, community members, and Catalysts, they lead regular Keeping Spots Safe sessions. These fun, interactive conversations help everyone understand how to speak up if they’re worried about something and make it clear that there is zero tolerance for abuse or harmful behaviour.

Using picture cards and short animations that reflect local stories, we make these important topics easy to understand for everyone.

In Abofour, there is solar power, ensuring consistent electricity, with hundreds of learners like Manaf (captured) gathering in the Spot to learn during evenings.

Every Spot is equipped with a resource kit designed to help learners explore, discover, and learn independently.

Each Spot receives books and learning materials, two tablets, and a Wi-Fi kit to open up even more opportunities.

Many Spots also have Science Sets, giving Sparks the chance to investigate, experiment, and bring science to life.

Best of all, each Spot is cared for by its own community.

Everyday costs like paper, pens, and electricity are covered locally.

Each Spot has a collection of local storybooks, including EduSpots’ very own Kwame’s Adventures, which features exciting stories inspired by life in Spot communities.

The book was proudly launched by Abofour’s chiefs, celebrating the community’s stories, people, and achievements. There’s nothing quite like seeing your own community become the hero of a story!

One of EduSpots’ first Catalysts and community entrepreneur Vida is one of Abofour’s very first Catalysts. She sells items to help raise money for the Spot, and her ideas have made the Spot what is today.

The Abofour team runs a sobolo business, and regularly organises fundraising events to keep their community learning space thriving.
