The Tower of Hercules The Tower of Hercules (Torre de Hércules) is an ancient Roman lighthouse . It´s located in A Coruña , Galicia, in north-western Spain. It is 55 metres tall It is almost 1900 years old ( aprox.) , and is the oldest Roman lighthouse . It´s still used as a lighthouse. Originally it was constructed with an ascending ramp surrounding its sides, for oxen to bring wood to keep the fire and the light at night . Then it was 34 metres tall . In 1788 the original tower was restored , including a extension of 21 metres (69 ft) Since 27 June 2009 is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and you can overlook the North Atlantic coast of Spain from the top of it .
