On Thursday, November 16th, Ed-Fest 2023 unfolded as an extraordinary triumph, leaving an indelible mark on all who attended.

The event was graced by an impressive line-up of guest speakers whose empowering talks resonated throughout the day. Natasha Devon, Kelly Potton, Baasit Siddiqui, Sir Terry Waite, Dr. Alex George, and Harley Jones Ryley from the Department for Education (DfE) shared insights that captivated and inspired. Ed-Fest 2023 not only celebrated the power of education but also served for collaboration amongst our delegates. The event has left a lasting impact on the professional paths of everyone who had the privilege of being part of this remarkable gathering.

Welcome Welcome to the fourth Annual General Meeting of Education Mutual; during the fourth year of operations Education Mutual (EM) has continued to grow and prosper, supporting our education sector and members throughout England and Wales. The level of member retention in 2022 has been the highest throughout

A friendly introduction to the Education Mutual Annual General Meeting 2023
EM’s history, demonstrating the exceptional service delivered to members and the difference schools experience from other staff absence insurance providers. I would like to extend a personal thank you to all members, team members, partners and sector colleagues who have supported the success of EM in 2022. I’m proud to be a part of creating an ethical, improved way of staff absence protection.

Rose Wilcox Attendees of the AGM accepted the resignation of Rose Wilcox and thanked her for her contribution to the mutual.
HewittCard Attendees of the AGM appointed HewittCard as external auditors for 2023.
Membership
Update Membership composition Membership continued the growth trend during 2022, with the highest retention rate of members achieved since EM’s inception, and an increased number of new memberships joining when compared with 2021. There has been a shift towards more academy members; this is inline with expectation as more schools convert to academies throughout England.
Membership claims 2022 has enjoyed a reduction in claims demands due to COVID-19 compared to 2021. Whilst COVID-19 has remained as a cause of absence, the claims profile is beginning to return to typical patterns of stress and maternity leave as the dominant claims categories. A larger than typical volume of claims are attributable to viral and flu claims, this is in line with expectation as society began to mix in work and social settings more frequently. It is anticipated viral, flu and operation claims will return to typical levels in 2023.
