Phone cards
Even though you are far away from home you can easily keep in touch with your friends and family. We offer two options: The first is a prepaid global phone card you can use at the host family or from any public phone booth in your destination. The second option is a local SIM card you can use with your own mobile phone. Prepaid phone cards:
Students can get an EF ekit International Prepaid Phone Card before departure. You will need to charge it with the call time you want either online, by using any international credit card or by phone before you travel. You or your family can also top up the call time on your account at any time during your trip. Call costs are as low as 4c or 4p a minute from UK, US, Canada or Australia and you save up to 70% on international calls home. Charge your card online: 1. When you have received your phone card with the account number and PIN printed on the back, simply go online to www.ef.ekit.com. (For your family to recharge your account while you are away, leave them with your account number and PIN so they can add money at any time.) 2. Click on ‘Recharge’ in the Global phone card box, then enter the account number printed on your phone card. Click ‘Recharge’. 3. Enter the details of your credit or debit card and select the amount you wish to add. Your family can easily recharge your account while you’re away by following the steps above.
Charge your card over the phone: 1. Once you have received your phone card with the account number and PIN printed on the back, take a note of the local access number for the country you are in. If you do not have this number, go online to www.ef.ekit.com. Click on ‘Making Calls’ for details of the Access Number for the country you are in. (Your family can add credit to your account while you’re away, just make sure they have the Access Number, your account number and your PIN.) 2. Dial your local Access Number and follow the prompts. 3. Provide the account number, and credit card details.
Mobile SIM cards
A local SIM card for your destination country allows you to send and receive text messages, as well as make and receive phone calls to both local and international numbers more cost effectively. You save by not incurring roaming fees - this way you won’t have to pay for the calls you receive from home, and calls home will be cheaper too. Our local SIM cards can be used in any mobile phone and are available to students going to the UK, US, Canada and Australia. For Malta, we use SIM cards provided by Vodafone. These cost 14 Euros and include a 5 ML credit. Book your SIM card now and it will be given to you along with the instructions upon your arrival in Malta. Remember to check that your mobile phone is not SIM locked. If it is locked, ask your service provider to unlock it before you go abroad (this allows you to put any SIM card into your phone). Students going to the US and Canada need a GSM tri-band mobile phone for it to work in these countries. Once you have ordered your SIM card you will get it in the mail before your departure. (Note to markets: Please add when the students can expect to receive the SIM cards in your country. Eg. together with the last info package or maybe the leader can hand them out to the students on departure - the sales offices can expect to receive the SIM cards 4 weeks prior to departure.) The SIM card comes with an initial credit as listed below. You may need to add extra call credit to the SIM card and you may also need to activate the card online before you travel. Please read the information with your SIM carefully for instructions specific to your SIM. You can add credit to your SIM before you leave, and you can also do this online while you are on your trip (just follow the instructions on the SIM card information sheet attached to your card). Sports options Why not practice your favourite sports or try something totally new while you’re abroad? Whether you’re a beginner or advanced, you’ll get tuition at your level and EF Sport Courses are led by EF Leaders and professionals who are native English speakers. Note that if you book a sport option you can’t book the fun pack, as the sport classes are usually held in the afternoons, and can take place simultaneously with other free-time activities. If you have your own personal sports equipment at home we recommend you bring it along, but there is also equipment available for rent. Diving – PADI
Take a PADI open water diving course and learn to scuba dive. For experienced divers we offer the PADI advanced open diving course. PADI is the most widely recognized diving certification in the world and coaches are professional PADI instructors.
