My favorite memory was the last hour at EF Long Beach, when I really realized how much I loved the people and the place. It was like leaving my home and my closest friends.

What advice would you give to future EF students?

Last years’ EF Vlogger Course brought students and YouTube stars together to express their creative talent for online videography. Each one showcased their inner director with a unique twist on ‘lights, cameraphone, action!’

I really recommend getting a bit out of your comfort zone and getting to know as many people as possible.

Could you describe your EF experience in three words?

Memorable. Fantastic.

Swedish YouTuber ‘Roomie’, who’s been causing a storm on the channel since 2010 with over 2 million subscribers, ran a workshop on songwriting, and each student produced and posted their own special assignments.

Vlog sensation Polina Zunovieva, also know as 'Hello Polly', came from Russia to get involved. With a huge reach on YouTube of 1.4 million subscribers, she was able to share lots of creative tips, as well as host a vlog challenge for our students to complete.

EF's Global Leadership Studio: are you the next Obama?

New to summer 2018, EF will launch the muchanticipated Global Leadership Studio.

The studio is designed to build the leadership and communication skills required for a future on the global stage.

Joining like-minded students from across the world in the historic city of Oxford, you’ll take part in entertaining development sessions on topics such as speech making, communication strategies, and creative problem solving.

There will also be a final-day

teamwork project focusing on global issues.

Why investing in your child's future is important David explains why booking a Language Travel course was an investment in his daughter's development, and why he'll be doing it again.

Hi David! Could you start by telling us who you are and your experience with EF? I’m the father of Maria, who took an LT summer course with EF last year.

Great! Can you explain for other parents what it’s like to send your child on an EF Language Travel course?

I was apprehensive at first, especially knowing this would be Maria’s first trip abroad on her own. I was encouraged by the high level of communication I had with the EF team - they gave me all the information I needed and were really supportive.

I had regular contact with Maria, however I also got the impression she was very busy!

She was part of a group of other students of a similar age, and they did everything together.

Where did she stay and what were her highlights?

She stayed in England at EF Rookesbury in the countryside, where they took excursions to Stonehenge and Brighton. They also played sports, usually either tennis or football, every other day.

Sounds like a great mix of culture and fun!

Do you think she’s benefited from the experience?

Without a doubt. Maria’s returned home more confident, has friends from all over Europe, and even knows the history of England! Exposing your child to different cultures really broadens their mind and increases tolerance. I want to expose Maria to as much as possible, so another EF course would be ideal.

Second summer abroad: how to support your child So you’ve booked another EF Language Travel course for your child, and they’re hungry with excitement and ready to go. But what about you?

We give some ‘top tips’ on how to support them, again.

1 Don’t worry too much It’s never easy letting your child go on a summer abroad by themselves, however they are in safe hands. Our EF leaders accompany your child throughout the entire journey, and they

are in groups with other students around the same age too. You’ll also be surprised at how resilient and adaptable your child is - they will make lots of friends and absorb a vibrant new culture.

2 Be supportive but not pushy Most parents have a list of things that they would like their child to achieve during their summer abroad, namely learning a language and understanding a new culture - as well as having fun. The key is to accept that the most important thing is the experience itself. Be there to guide

Pictures and posts can sometimes be misleading, so scrutinising their every move will just make you worry more.

4 Don’t take it personally if they forget to call Not seeing your child every day over summer can be difficult. You’ll want to speak to them constantly to find out what they’re doing. But your child will be having so much fun - making exciting international friendships and gaining cultural exposure in a dynamic new town or city. So don’t be offended if they forget to call or text. It’s not because they don’t want to speak to you.
