S
tep inside Anthony's Chophouse and the sheer elegance is apparent. The high ceilings and warm interior create a refined yet welcoming backdrop. White tablecloths, polished stemware and impeccable servers reinforce the upscale ambiance. But underneath the worldclass aesthetics lies a culture of hospitality woven into every fiber of the place. Owner Anthony Lazzara has deliberately crafted an environment where guests feel comfortable, at ease, and taken care of. There is no pretense or stuffiness despite the obvious quality. Here, servers chat genuinely, and bartenders sprinkle in banter while precisely mixing cocktails. The liveliness of laughter mixed with clinking glasses permeates the rooms. Anthony's meticulous attention to food, drink and service, combined with the professional leadership of executive general manager Colin Atterson, has created an atmosphere where enjoyment takes priority, especially at the bar. Anthony explains that the expertise of the synergistic bar team brings momentum to the entire restaurant, building regulars one handcrafted cocktail at a time. While the entire staff is well-versed in all things food and drink (and required to attend educational wine panels every Saturday to understand the nuances of their boutique wine selection), the bar team holds exceptional credentials, including a
26
sommelier, a whiskey steward, a certified scotch and tequila expert, spirits experts, and more. Just as the food menu pioneers new trends and leans into its emerging role as an innovative answer to the traditional steakhouse, with Chef Aziz Mountassar changing the menu twice a year, the bartenders do the same, rolling up their sleeves ever so slightly for a juried competition, then presenting a distinctive drinks menu that is far from pedestrian. Thoughtfully crafted cocktails are built with complex shrubs, aromatic syrups and exotic infusions—all made in-house to provide layers of flavor not found in any mix. Even the ice cubes are impressive, slowly frozen, crystal clear, and stamped with an “A” for Anthony’s. Each mixologist expertly blends these elements into well-balanced and beautiful liquid art, simultaneously entertaining guests and adding to the experience with flavors of their individual personalities. The inventive bar menu and top-notch bar team go hand-in-hand with the opulent and inviting vibe Anthony wants every guest to feel. His focus has always been on the experience, not the bottom line, which means pushing boundaries and elevating all of the details. Anthony’s Chophouse is located at 201 W. Main Street in Carmel, Indiana. Beginning November 25, receive an extra $25 for every $100 gift card purchased. Meet the Bar Team
Savanah Savanah grew up in the restaurant industry and has been behind the bar at Anthony’s since the beginning, marking her five-year anniversary this coming winter. She says being able to learn from extremely talented people has helped her craft her own identity in the industry. Her new drink, Higgins, is a nod to one of her former cocktails, the Magnum P.I., using the same charred pineapple shrub (her original recipe), along with botanical rum, Brenne scotch and a smoked salt rim. “I wanted to produce a drink that had two pretty unique things in it that people typically wouldn't order on their own,” she says of the botanical rum and scotch, continuing, “but coming together really nice and opening people up to something new.”
Ainsley Spending most of her career in downtown Indianapolis, Ainsley says Carmel has been a refreshing and welcoming community to be a part of. Her favorite aspect of bartending is getting to know people, which makes Anthony’s Chophouse a great fit. “Focusing on the guests and guest relationships are really important here,” she explains. “That's really been the driving force for me.” When she builds cocktails, Ainsley first finds flavors she enjoys from food, then adds other profiles before deciding what spirit to include. In The Potion, she combines gin with curry allspice simple syrup, lemon, egg white and angostura bitters.

Zach A fourth-generation bartender, Zach has been bartending since 1998, first working at a sports bar before opening The Ball and Biscuit (the first craft cocktail bar in Indianapolis) and starting his own drinks company offering bitters, syrups and ready-to-drink cocktails. Like others on the staff, Zach followed Colin Atterson to Anthony’s. “We instantly had one of the best and most professional teams in the entire city,” says Zach, who enjoys working with like-minded people who always strive for excellence. A sommelier, whiskey steward and spirits expert, Zach has been instrumental in moving the bar program to the caliber of Chicago or New York City, which is apparent in his drink, F.U. Money. This extravagant riff on an Old Fashioned, featuring bone marrow-washed LOUIS XIII cognac, angostura bitters and demerara syrup, is served with a bone marrow appetizer. Zach realizes it’s pushing the limits, but that’s the point. “It's a very balanced cocktail that really expresses everything you'd get out of LOUIS XIII in the first place—in cocktail form,” he says.

Chelsey Holding her ground both tableside and behind the bar, Chelsey is new to this crew but not to the world of bartending. “Anthony’s is clearly a family-run operation,” she says, noting how lovely it is for everyone to feel involved. “And it’s such a lively team,” she adds, explaining the guests feed off of the energy the bar team brings. Chelsey’s drink, Pretty n’ Peach, pays homage to her own family’s love of peach cobbler, marrying bourbon with the house-made cinnamon peach shrub, combining warm tones with baking spices, vanilla and a hint of balsamic.
Shaun With twenty years of experience in the upscale restaurant industry, Shaun knows Anthony’s is a special place, combining skill and knowledge with work ethic and fun. “I don't know of another restaurant or bar team that has every one of those pieces, and it melds seamlessly together,” he says, adding that they not only make incredible drinks but they show guests a good time. He explains that working at Anthony’s is not merely transactional, but everyone is treated like family. “This place is truly, honestly, wholly unique. And that starts at the top, and nobody is missed in that,” he says. Shaun call his new drink “a killer fall cocktail.” Tango ‘til They’re Sore (named by Zach after a Tom Waits song), mixes Camarena Blanco tequila with dry curaçao, lime juice and Chinola—a passionfruit liquor that gives the drink a vivid orange hue.

Celebrate the season in style with the Aréchiga family at Verde Flavors of Mexico. The exquisite settings at each of their four locations paired with the sophisticated take on traditional Mexican fare provide an unforgettable holiday experience that is a feast for the senses. “Our chefs and mixologists always come up with special dishes to celebrate,” says owner Paul Aréchiga, adding that while the menu is always evolving, they specialize in dishes full of depth and thoughtful flavor profiles. Specialties include the traditional molcajete (grilled steak, chicken, shrimp and chorizo served in a hot lava rock), the exotic pulpo al ajo (char-grilled octopus with rice and asparagus), and the classic ribeye tacos (costra de queso and premium chopped ribeye with a bone marrow side). From the bar, you can toast with a spicy paloma, one of the many mezcal drinks on the menu (a nod to the family’s roots in Jalisco, Mexico—also home to the blue agave plant), or Verde’s Barrel Select Margarita, made with their very own Patrón Barrel Select Añejo Tequila, created in partnership with Patrón Tequila, aged in French and American oak barrels and handselected by the team while visiting Hacienda Patrón. Aréchiga credits the loyal customers and dedicated team members for making Verde what it is today, and he understands how special it is to spend time together, face-to-face, especially during the holidays. “Our newest location in Zionsville is perfect for a memorable event, and our Carmel and Ironworks locations offer private dining spaces perfect for those who want to celebrate among friends and family in a more intimate setting,” he says. West Fork Whiskey Distillery/Midwest Cuisine At West Fork Whiskey, Bedford native Blake Jones and his co-founders are determined to make whiskey the way Indiana should, with corn-forward flavor that is 100% Hoosiermade—grain to glass. Even the name is a nod to the White River and Central Indiana where they call home. What started as a weekend project has grown into one of the most unique agritourism destinations around. The 25-acre campus includes an event center, educational facility, sampling room, cocktail bar and a family-friendly restaurant, where Midwest specialties include a signature fried tenderloin sandwich, herb-marinated half-roasted chicken and fried green tomatoes. Blake, who believes that the holidays are a fun time to reconnect with family and friends, says that a thieving experience at West Fork Whiskey is a great way to do that. “We take you on a guided tour to learn about whiskey, then actually taste whiskey directly out of a barrel to learn how the barrel impacts flavor,” he explains, adding that this is a great complement to dinner at The Mash House (the Midwest-focused family-friendly restaurant) or a nightcap at Stave (the intimate, speakeasystyle cocktail lounge), providing an opportunity to expand your experience and time together, especially during this festive season. 101 Beer Kitchen American Restaurant
Beer isn’t the only thing on the menu at 101 Beer Kitchen, but according to co-founders Thad and Jess Kittrell, it makes everything better and enhances every part of the chefdriven dishes at this welcoming gathering spot. Passionate about pairing food and beer, they recommend dipping your toes into the Belgian beer world as the cool weather sets in. Jess explains that the higher ABV in these delicious brews will not only warm you up, but will also complement your meal. “Try pairing our seared sea scallops served over crispy risotto cakes, Brussels sprouts and beet sauce with the Boulevard Tank 7 Saison,” she says, adding that this 8.5% Kansas City brew is aromatic, subtly spicy and delicious. But with 20 taps that change with the seasons, you can’t really go wrong. During the holiday season, both Indy locations (found in The Yard at Fishers District and in the Proscenium in Carmel) will be abuzz with festive music, new features on the food menu, and specialty cocktails, including the Winter Mule and Bad Santa. They offer semi-private and private party spaces with flexible menu options and a seamless dining experience, says Jess, who believes that making time to gather around the table with loved ones during the busy holiday season is what is most important this time of year. “Precious memories are made over meals enjoyed,” she says, “and we should all prioritize spending this time together to allow us to reflect and reconnect.” Meet your crew at 101 Beer Kitchen for lunch and dinner throughout the week and for brunch on the weekends.
