The Ball family has been taking care of teeth since 1935, when Dr. Cecil Ball opened his Eastside office. Later, his son, Dr. Gary Ball joined the practice, expanding to the Northside. Fast forward to 2020 and Ball Dentistry is still in the family, owned by Cecil’s grandson and his wife, Drs. Craig and Andrea Ball. This year, Ball Dentistry relocated the Northside office, moving right across the street and managing to combine a new, state-of-the-art office and equipment with their steadfast, patient centered, family oriented, feels like home vibe. “The fact that it is a third generation family business is never lost on us,” says Dr. Andrea Ball, adding that every decision for growth or expansion is made with that vision statement in mind. While Gary decided early on he would follow in his father’s footsteps, Craig was not so sure. “Like most kids, I always envisioned myself as an astronaut or a doctor.” But he grew up seeing his father and grandfather help many people through dentistry, and he enjoyed working with his hands. Craig was also drawn to the opportunity to carry on the family business, and soon realized dentistry allowed him to utilize all his skills and passions. Craig met his wife Andrea at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. Andrea became interested in dentistry early, as the result of extensive dental work as a child. She currently combines her passion for facial esthetics with her dentistry practice. “What I’m able to do for a person’s smile and confidence through dentistry and esthetic treatments like Botox and dermal fillers is amazing to me.” Ball Dentistry provides a wide array of services and many skilled associates. “We are highly invested in technology, patient satisfaction, and a conservative treatment philosophy,” says Craig. Ball Dentistry is a family office, and

The Ball family has a passion for smiles, which makes the challenges of 2020 even more difficult. But they are thankful to be able to provide the best in dental care in a safe environment this year and in the years to come.

Catherine Reese, MD loves helping her patients recover from sports related injuries and lead an active lifestyle. At the Franciscan Cityway Family and Sports Medicine office in Carmel, she spends time with her patients in order to dial into the true cause of their injury, in addition to treating the injury itself.

“One of the biggest challenges in Sports Medicine is telling someone they need to stop their favorite activity. I try not to do that often, but sometimes it is necessary to rest in order to heal,” Reese explains, adding that her main goal is getting her patients active again and back to all of the activities they enjoy.

Dr. Reese wanted to be a doctor for as long as she can remember, following her mother’s footsteps in the medical field. “My mom is a family medicine physician and I have always admired her,” she says. Dr. Reese went into Sports Medicine because, as a collegiate athlete, she herself sustained frequent injuries and saw the benefits of the specialty she now calls a career.

Dr. Reese enjoys her job because she gets to talk about some of her favorite things all day: running, yoga and sports. Outside of the office, she loves spending time with her husband and two sweet kids, especially in the great outdoors, where they can often be found biking, camping and hiking.

• Healthy Habit: I get a workout in every morning before work. • Guilty Pleasure: My favorite guilty pleasure is to take a long bike ride to get some nachos and craft beer. • 2021 Pro Tip: Add in some exercise! An active lifestyle is actually more important for your body than weight loss. Your minimum activity goal should be 150 minutes per week, in at least 10-minute sessions. Go out there and get it done!

Dr. Anthony Feher doesn’t want anyone to let joint pain keep them from doing the things they love. As a joint reconstruction specialist and orthopedic surgeon with Franciscan Health, Dr. Feher wants to help change lives for the better. “I love seeing patients regain their joy of life, after being so miserable with arthritis for so long.” Feher focuses on revision hip and knee replacement, and credits his partners and pioneers in the field for the much advancement in joint replacement surgery over the past decade, making the challenges minimal today.

A 5th grade dissection peaked Dr. Feher’s interest in the medical field, and he considered a career in athletic training, but was driven to orthopedic surgery when he noticed overwhelming patient success in the field. “I saw how great patients did after surgery, and that drove me to become an expert hip and knee surgeon.”

Dr. Feher has a patient-centered philosophy in his practice, always making sure that his patients and their caregivers have what they need to make recovery easy and comfortable. Communication and understanding expectations are essential parts of the process, and Dr. Feher is grateful to work with such an experienced team that also values the importance of these aspects.

When he isn’t at the office or in the operating room, Dr. Feher is often found courtside at a practice or sporting event for one of his three children, who are involved in all kinds of athletics. He loves to travel, go to the beach, and snow ski.

• Healthy Habit: I like to run. • Guilty Pleasure: Ice cream. • 2021 Pro Tip: Find a way to stay active and do what you enjoy—whether it’s running, biking, or pickleball. Find what makes you happy and keeps you moving.

Before she considered a career in optometry, Brittany Foerg, OD wanted to be a teacher like her mom. Her goals changed soon after she got her first pair of glasses and realized the impact of vision care. “I could suddenly see everything I didn’t know I was missing.”

Dr. Foerg was further drawn to optometry by the example of her own optometrist, Dr. Greg Norman, whom she now works with as an associate. His skill and compassion are obvious in the care of his patients, and Foerg is grateful for the mentorship he has provided.

“I take time to thoroughly listen, understand patient concerns and answer all questions,” says Foerg. She sets herself apart by spending time with her patients and providing outstanding care. Foerg offers many services at Norman and Miller Eyecare in Westfield, including custom and specialty fit contact lenses.

Every day, Foerg feels fortunate in the purpose of her career—improving lives by preserving sight and maximizing vision. She loves the creativity optometry offers, saying, “The visual needs of my patients are unique, and using my resources in new ways to meet those needs excites me.”

Volunteering is a passion of Dr. Foerg’s, and she provides vision screening in local elementary schools and at the Trinity Free Clinic in Carmel. When she isn’t working, Foerg enjoys spending time in nature with her husband, friends and family.

• Healthy Habit: I pack my lunch every day instead of going out to eat. • Guilty Pleasure: Ice cream • 2021 Pro Tip: Make a visit to an eye doctor part of your annual preventive care routine. Even if you’re not experiencing vision problems, your eyes can hold clues to other aspects of health.

Dr. Jackson and the innovative team Hamilton Surgical Arts and Happy Clinic Indy medical spa provide excellent care and are grateful to be helping patients look their best with a minimum of downtime.

Dr. Jackson is focused on giving his patients the best care possible, and treats each one like family. From the initial evaluation through the recovery process, he is committed to safe practices and proven results. He only uses the best equipment and newest techniques, and is excited to be offering Vaser high definition body contouring, a precision body sculpting treatment that exposes and develops the patient’s natural underlying physique.

“I have always enjoyed the artistic side of cosmetic surgery,” says Jackson, adding that what he loves most about his career is helping patients regain their self-confidence by helping them feel better about their appearance. In addition to lifts and tucks, Dr. Jackson says that non-invasive procedures such as Botox and Fillers can add volume to the face and offer a more youthful appearance without the wait of a surgical procedure.

For now, Dr. Jackson is focused on keeping his patients safe when they visit his office, but in a normal year he is an avid traveler and educator in the cosmetic surgery field. For many years he traveled to Haiti and the Dominican Republic annually performing missionary surgery. “Those were some of the greatest experiences of my life,” says Dr. Jackson.

Unlike any other medical facility in Indianapolis, Indy Vital is proudly taking patients from illness to wellness. Here you won’t be rushed through visits or be pushed into prescription medications. Instead, Dr. Cris Vieira—a board-certified physician who believes there is no happiness in the absence of health—seeks to understand his patients and get them back to living their best lives.

Vieira, whose father is also a medical doctor, jokes that he was born a physician and often made hospital rounds with his dad as a child. After more than 25 years in the medical field, he wants to change the paradigm by offering patients a new kind of practice that doesn’t revolve around medication. “At Indy Vital, I can take time with my patients. We sit down and talk and develop an individualized plan together, to not only help them feel better, but also to help them regain their youth, energy and stamina. It is very different than just managing a disease.” And the results have been very successful.

Indy Vital is bringing our community the latest in medical science with hyperbaric oxygen therapy, laser and lowlevel light therapy, cryotherapy and much more. Vieira says he is focused on getting his patients to the top of their game: “I am going to work just as hard as you do to get you there.”

INSPIRING DESIGN

with Whittney Parkinson

The New Year is a time to be thankful for what we have, and hopeful for what is to come. Just getting to 2021 seems more significant than ever before. After spending so much time at home this year, now is a great time to appreciate your space and think about how you can make it truly your own.

I began my career in 2008 as an interior architect and designer—melding the jobs I saw growing up as the daughter of an architect and an interior designer. I started Whittney Parkinson Design almost five years ago in order to focus solely on projects I truly aligned with, and this year I made another leap, concentrating my efforts on residential design and working closely with families to achieve the home of their dreams.

My style is transitional at heart, balancing modern and traditional elements. I look beyond trends to create ageless homes that will reflect my clients and their families for years to come. Whether you are ready to build a new home, remodel an existing one, or just imagine what your forever home might look like, here are a few design ideas you can take with you into 2021.

"A simple trick that quickly enhances any room is fresh greenery--instantly adding a sense of life!"

MAKE IT PERSONAL: Your home is your sanctuary and a reflection of who you are. I get to know my clients so that I can specify unique, quality items and accessories that reflect their one-of-a-kind personalities and reveal their personal style. Bookshelves not only add height, but they also allow you a place to display accessories that tell your story. Artwork is another effective solution to beautify a space and add a focal point. I encourage finding a work of art that is meaningful to you. Another simple trick that quickly enhances any room is fresh greenery—instantly adding a sense of life. I love adding a natural element by bringing in a few snipped branches from nature—the larger in scale, the more dramatic.

LOVE THE LIGHTING: Ambient lighting is so important and can make an immediate difference. I can’t tell you how many spaces I walk into with only a ceiling fixture. An easy way to start is by adding floor lamps and table lamps, giving off warm light at eye level. When you’re ready, you can add wall sconces or recessed lighting, which is a great way to highlight artwork. This underestimated design layer will instantly take a space from sterile to cozy.
