Bhumi Patel recently opened the first Indianapolis FACE FOUNDRIÉ, an approachable skincare franchise offering affordable and accessible facial services. But for Bhumi, whose entrepreneurship is rooted in work ethic, ambition and love, this new business is more than skin-deep.

Bhumi’s story begins in the suburbs of Chicago, where her parents settled after immigrating from India in the 1980s with nothing more than five dollars and a dream, as they tell it. They worked long hours in factories, local businesses/franchises and hotel housekeeping—anything to keep the family afloat, saving to start their own business. Their first venture was a Dunkin’ Donuts franchise, but more followed, leaving Bhumi and her younger brother with whirlwind resumes as teenagers. She hated it.

“When you’re in high school, you don’t want to be the girl working the drivethrough or cleaning the bathrooms when your friends come to Dairy Queen,” she laughs, looking back. But now, Bhumi is grateful for every moment, recognizing how those early years shaped her relentless work ethic and drive. It taught both her and her brother the challenges and rewards of entrepreneurship. Inspired by their example, Bhumi’s brother and sisterin-law are business owners, and her husband, Shalin Khandwala, owns the diamond wholesale business Asian Gems, carrying the entrepreneurial spirit into the next generation.

Working together as a family also imparted a deep admiration for her parents. Immigrants from India with an arranged marriage, Bhumi saw their partnership blossom into true love over the years, creating a model for the importance of relationships that guides her today. “Relationships are really, truly important to me,” says Bhumi. “Whether

they’re family or friends—I treasure them…that’s my North Star.”

With that foundation, Bhumi went on to earn a master’s degree in Health Administration, building a successful career as a healthcare consultant devoted to the client experience. Yet after starting her own family, she found herself craving the flexibility and autonomy of business ownership that she grew up with. After months of discerning the options, she switched gears, investing in her own FACE FOUNDRIÉ franchise. She was already obsessed with skincare, and in her research, Bhumi found herself drawn to the brand’s mission of making facials and self-care available to everyone with affordable memberships, convenient scheduling and cutting-edge services. Most importantly, she found alignment with the company's values and the humble beginnings of CEO and founder Michele Henry.

In February 2024, Bhumi proudly opened the doors to Indiana’s first FACE FOUNDRIÉ, on the north side of Indianapolis, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by Indy Chamber. "We are thrilled to have Bhumi Patel as our franchise partner in Indianapolis,” says Michele, noting how Bhumi’s background and upbringing in familyowned hospitality businesses endowed her with a profound understanding of customer service excellence. She continues, “This unique combination of experiences has honed her ability to anticipate and fulfill client needs as the skincare and wellness industry evolves.”

Bhumi Patel is no stranger to balancing family and entrepreneurship. Along with her supportive husband Shalin Khandwala and twoyear-old daughter Leilani, she is excitedly awaiting the arrival of her second child, a rainbow baby, this summer and is already planning a second northside FACE FOUNDRIÉ location to open later this year.

She attributes much of the store’s successful opening to store manager and esthetician Michelyn Zappa, who shares Bhumi’s passion for providing an exceptional client experience. “Michelyn is super driven and motivated. She has a bright future ahead of her,” says Bhumi. “I see a lot of myself in her, and I know she will be an integral part of our growth as we expand.”

Just as Bhumi is committed to nurturing her team and her business, she is even more dedicated to her family. No stranger to balancing it all, Bhumi is grateful for the opportunity to grow her family, including a new baby on the way, alongside her FACE FOUNDRIÉ endeavors. She and Shalin work hard to preserve their Indian heritage for their two-year-old daughter Leilani, speaking their native Gujarati language with her and celebrating Hindu holidays and traditions like Navratri and Diwali. “It’s really important to highlight our culture and roots for our daughter,” explains Bhumi, who plans to pass down her determination and devotion to family and business as well.

Caffé Buondí

Meaning “alive” in French, Vivante is an excellent way to start your day. The American restaurant and bar, located inside Hotel Carmichael, offers an elevated dining experience and culinary artistry with a seasonally curated menu meant to delight the senses, even if you’ve just rolled out of bed. You don’t have to have a hotel reservation to indulge in this elegant yet approachable dining experience—although a staycation is a great way to elevate your weekend and revel in the luxury of brunch without ever leaving the exquisite hotel, says marketing manager Danielle Barry.

Barry suggests beginning your meal with the Carmichael, the restaurant’s signature continental breakfast and perfect brunch starter. This indulgent dish features your choice of traditional, chocolate or almond croissant paired with an array of preserves, fresh fruit, and a decadent slice of triple cream brie. “You can indulge further with our in-house crafted scones, perfectly complemented by locally sourced jams and jellies,” she continues.

For those craving savory delights, Vivante offers a tempting array of options. Relish the Quiche du Jour, a daily selection of freshly baked quiche with seasonal ingredients. Try the mouthwatering selection of breakfast Benedicts, each with its own unique twist on the classic dish. Or, for a truly memorable experience, savor the Smoked Salmon Board, designed for sharing with family and friends. Eggshell Bistro

Nestled in Carmel City Center, Eggshell Bistro has been delighting brunch enthusiasts since 2011 with its globally inspired cuisine. “Brunch is that optimistic time of the day or morning when all things are possible. ChiCago, illinois

With its blend of classic elegance and forward-thinking creativity, the Windy City is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates the power of good design. Take a tour from the Chicago Architecture Center to see the city’s rich architectural heritage by boat, bus or even “L” train, showcasing some of the city’s most stunning treasures, including the neoGothic Tribune Tower and the Art Deco Carbide and Carbon Building. Stroll through the River North Design District, where showrooms and galleries exhibit the latest interior design trends, from sleek minimalism to bold, eclectic styles. Don’t miss the nearby Driehaus Museum with a focus on the Gilded Age or the Merchandise Mart—a behemoth of art and design.
