Dose of Seasonal Glamour By Tara Dumser, Make-Up Artist
The holidays are upon us, which means there will be plenty of party-ready moments. Take your holiday makeup to the next level with a high impact look and try something new and festive! Experiment with a new eye shadow palette with brilliant pigments or a mega bright lip. Practice makes perfect so definitely do a test run (or two) before a big party to feel confident with your dazzling look. The New Jane Iredale Purple Rain Eye Shadow Kit (such a great name) creates major wow worthy eye makeup looks. Dial up the drama by adding Amethyst Mystikol Eyeliner and halo bottom lashes with Double Dazzle Highlighter Pencil. Lush, exaggerated lashes gives a fierce but flirty look so beef up your mascara with Lash Extender & Conditioner first then apply two coats of mascara. Sculpt your face with soft contoured cheekbones using Flawless Blush, drape Whisper Blush for a beautiful glow of color, then add Peaches & Cream Highlighter for a shot of shimmer to those cheekbones. Triple Luxe Long Lasting Lipsticks are beautifully pigmented with incredible staying power. Play with different lip color hues as an alternative to the classic Holiday red lip. My current festive lip look is Pink Lip Pencil, Joanna Triple Luxe Lipstick, and a touch of Very Berry Pure Gloss lip gloss. No matter how snowy the weather or how wild the party, keep your makeup intact with a spritz of setting spray to keep your look going as long as you do. It

The
new buzzword is
"Mommy Makeover"
What Is It?
What is Mommy Makeover? Pregnancy causes significant changes on a woman’s body. These changes affect many body areas including breast, tummies, legs and more. The birth and joy watching new life grow is a joyous experience. However after nine months, or more if you are nursing, many of our patients desire to have their pre-pregnancy body restored. Though healthy diets, exercise, minimally invasive cosmetic treatments and aesthetic procedures are absolutely important, many patients are turning to a “Mommy Makeover” to get their shape back. Cosmetic surgeons now offer the so-called “Mommy Makeover” to
14
address multiple post pregnancy issues in a single surgical event. Some of the procedures that are combined, depending on the patient’s desires and safety issues, include: Tummy Tuck, Breast Enhancement-Augmentation or Lift, Liposuction possibly with skin tightening and skin rejuvenating procedures. A Mommy Makeover can address two of the most common complaints in one session, changes in the breast and abdomen. Though it is great to get both procedures in one surgical episode it is important to note that combined procedures leads to longer anesthesia and surgery time. Most surgeons feel up to five ABS O LUT E L IV IN GM AGAZ IN E .COM
hours of surgery is safe, and in most cases a tummy tuck and a breast enhancement procedure can be accomplished in that length of time. To determine what can be combined in one surgical episode will be determined at your consultation. Mommy Makeover procedures may include: Mommy Makeover – Tummy Tuck The only time a female creates new fat cells is during pregnancy. Theses cells are formed over the lower abdomen. Because of this the female contour is changed. It becomes hard to change that contour even with extensive diet and exercise. A tummy tuck or liposuction may be best option.
There are many options when considering a “Tummy Tuck”depending on the extent of the post pregnancy changes. In some cases with good skin tone and elasticity, liposculpture may be sufficient. The amount of laxity of the muscles and skin will dictate the best type of “Tummy Tuck” to correct the changes. Many can be done with minimal scars hidden under the bikini line. If there was a C-Section that scar can be used. Some of the types of Abdominoplasties/Tummy Tucks that can be included in a Mommy Makeover or as a single procedure: Traditional (a full Abdominoplasty), Extended (belt lipectomy), Mini or Avelar (short scar with liposuction and removal of skin), Liposuction possibly combined with Renuvion/ Jplasma skin tightening. Mommy Makeover – Breast Enhancement Though motherhood is an exciting, joyous event, the changes on the body, especially the breast, can be drastic. Though your breasts were perky and full prior to and even during pregnancy, after breast feeding and natural loss of tissue, they are sagging and no longer full. Much of this is due to the hormonal effect, which cause enlargement during pregnancy as these hormones decrease the breasts tend to deflate. Augmentation or lifting procedures can restore the size and shape and if desired make them larger than before pregnancy. Some
patients like the enlarged size of their breasts during the gestation months. If upper pole fullness is lost then an implant will be required. At your consultation your options will be discussed as we plan your realistic expectations. Mommy Makeover – Liposuction (Fat Removal) Liposuction alone or liposculpture since most cosmetic surgeons feel it is an art like sculpture to get optimal results can remove fat and re contour. In the past if you needed skin tightening it required a tummy tuck in addition to fat removal. Today however in some cases a skin tightening can be accomplished with a new modality, Renuvion/JPlasma. This modality utilizes Radiofrequency and helium under the skin. The combination causes the skin to contract. If the patient is a candidate the patient can avoid any scaring. All liposuction uses cannulas (small suction tubes). The cannulas are inserted underneath the skin through small puncture wounds suction is applied with specialized vacuum – powered equipment. The improvements over the past few years of smaller cannulas and more advanced techniques have allowed surgeons to contour much more skillfully. The use of tumescent fluid, which yields numbing, and hemostasis is now the gold standard. In good hands liposuction can yield the results the post pregnancy mom is looking to accomplish. ABS O LUT E L IV IN GM AGAZ IN E .COM
Liposuction is often a component of the “mommy makeover”. Mommy Makeover – Stretch Mark (Striae) Removal What causes stretch marks? The effects of pregnancy causes the skin to stretch more quickly than elasticity of the skin will allow. This causes a pulling on the dermis, which yields a thinning of the collagen resulting in stretch marks. Utilizing a good skin moisturizing cream during pregnancy though it may not totally prevent them may reduce the extent or severity. To treat them they are some laser and skin treatments that may benefit it reducing the appearance. Tummy tucks can remove or move them below bikini line. Mommy Makeover –
who
should and when to consider?
Women who want their body more like their pre-pregnancy contour should explore their options. You should wait at least six months after having the baby – this allows time to heal and stabilize. It is advisable to wait until no longer breast-feeding. If you are done with having children then it is certainly safe to proceed. Consult your cosmetic surgeon to evaluate all your options in many cases such as our office consultation are complimentary. D
an Moyer’s young sense of entrepreneurship and passion for jewelry have been instrumental in the success of Moyer Fine Jewelers. Dan had a modest start selling Indian jewelry in the halls of North Central and gold chains in sororities at Indiana University. His love for the jewelry business led him to open his first storefront in a local beauty shop in 1979, and fueled the expansion to his own space at 116th Street in Carmel in 1982. After outgrowing the space at 116th Street, Moyer Fine Jewelers settled in its current location in 1993, a 13,000 square foot store at 14727 Thatcher Lane. For 40 years, Moyer has strived to find the best in classic fine jewelry, provide a great selection of trendy designer jewelry, and provide truly exceptional service. Moyer Fine Jewelers offers clients a diverse selection of engagement rings, wedding bands, fine jewelry and watches. With 18 watch brands, 50 designer fashion jewelry brands, Moyer’s own designs, and one of the largest inventories of GIA certified diamonds, Moyer has something for everyone for all occasions. Moyer is home to some of the world’s most iconic designer jewelry and watch brands such as David Yurman, John Hardy, Tacori, Breitling, Omega, and Hublot. From classic, timeless pieces of jewelry like diamond stud earrings or diamond pendants to exclusive, designer pieces, Moyer Fine Jewelers offers it all. “To put it simply, we are the place to buy better and finer jewelry. We strive for the best quality in each category. We believe in higher standards, not higher prices,” Dan says. “We buy from the best sources and are very particular when it comes to the quality of our jewelry.” Within their jewelry repertoire, Moyer covers a price range from $195 to hundreds of thousands of dollars. Moyer Fine Jewelers is a family owned and operated business with Dan’s family taking part in its success. Now as Moyer begins its 40th year in Carmel/Westfield, Dan Moyer and his team including a second generation with

his daughter, Maddie Moyer Perry, are looking forward to the future. Maddie has worked at the store for 5 years full-time as an integral part of the business operations. “It’s very nice to be able to share my knowledge and expertise with Maddie, and to have a second generation fully vested in the business. It’s been incredibly meaningful to me that one of my children has chosen to take an active role in the future of the business,” Dan says. “We have a great, young staff that is very dedicated to the business and to serving our clients and community. They embody the values that I’ve run the business with for 40 years, and they will be a vital part of the business for the next 40 years,” Dan comments. Through the influence of this young staff, Moyer Fine Jewelers has been able to navigate the challenge of staying relevant in the age of the internet, and continue its growth by still putting the client first. “We’ve adapted to the changing times by making sure our website is easy to navigate and constantly updated with our newest inventory,” Dan says. “But even though we are evolving with technology, we aren’t a shopping cart business. We want that personal interaction with our clients. With our online customers, one of our sales professionals personally reaches out to conduct the transaction. We believe that our customers still want that personal touch...” Dan believes that Moyer Fine Jewelers has been successful because of the commitment to service, the personal touches and the constant desire to always put the client first. “We try to always take care of our clients. It’s about providing them with the best jewelry and watches AND giving them exceptional service whether they’re stopping in for a repair or to make a hundred-thousand-dollar purchase.” He credits his staff for not only meeting, but also exceeding client expectations, an ideal that has been a top priority since inception. Dan says. “We’ll do what it takes to make our clients’ happy and to make their important life

events special. Whether it means staying until midnight to finish a job or personally driving their package to the FedEx office, we don’t hesitate to go the extra mile for our clients.” Moyer Fine Jewelers has 20 employees on staff. The staff includes GIA Graduate Gemologists tasked with operations such as diamond buying and appraisal work, and master jewelers on site to assist with repairs and custom design projects. With well over 300 years of jewelry experience on staff, we have the expertise to help you find the perfect gift. As owner and president, Dan oversees the day-to-day operations of the business and tries to remain visible to clients. He is often seen assisting his clients on the sales floor, assisting with purchasing new product for the store, and creating new, innovative marketing concepts. “Forty years later, I still enjoy going to work every day. I love traveling around the world, finding new, unique jewelry collections for the store.” Dan is a prominent fixture in the store, making sure his values of putting the client first are always at play in every interaction. Moyer Fine Jewelers believes in giving back to the community. “Each year, we raise and donate well over $100,000 to local charitable organizations,” says Marketing Director, Lauren Bauer. Moyer Fine Jewelers has contributed to several charitable organizations including the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), the Julian Center, Indiana Children’s Wish Fund, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the Humane Society of Hamilton County, the American Cancer Society in Indiana, the Indy Honor Flight, and many more. For 34 years, Dan has personally organized the Moyer Pro-Am
Charity Golf Tournament benefiting St. Mary’s Child Center, a local organization he’s particularly fond of. During that time, Moyer has raised and donated over $1,000,000 to St. Mary’s which has provided scholarships for more than 100 students. “We have had a great time and are so thankful to be a part of a great community for the last 40 years,” Dan says. “We look forward to another 40 with our fabulous staff and the second generation of Moyer’s.” “While brick and mortar retail has its challenges from the onslaught of online platforms, we at Moyer Fine Jewelers still believe that a good combination of an incredible, diverse inventory and thorough information about all products and services online, while giving old fashioned full service personal treatment inside the store, is a combination that will persevere forever.” About Dan Moyer Dan and his wife, Sherri, have four children: Rachael, Maddie (mentioned in the article), Ellee and Joe. Rachael is a speech pathologist in San Francisco. Ellee, a recent graduate from Texas Christian University, is in the process of moving to Chicago for her first job. Joe is currently a junior at Southern Methodist University in Texas. Admittedly, Dan is a professed workaholic. However, when not working he enjoys golfing with the boys at Crooked Stick, dining out with his wife Sherri and their friends (at favorites like Tinker Street), traveling to new destinations, and of course he enjoys a fine 12 ounce can or bottle of Miller Light and occasionally a Moscow mule or a light, fruity Pinot Noir.

Wine above white water sports
Sugar Creek winery

I
ndiana’s newest winery officially opened in Carmel last month, finally bringing the state’s total number of wineries into the triple digits. Sugar Creek Vineyard and Winery, 1111 W. Main St., Carmel, is owned and operated by David and Sherry Phillips. Having 100 wineries or so now, it’s important to have a distinguishing theme that separates you from the rest of the pack. And towards that end, Sugar Creek delivers in spades, as to David, wine and outdoor adventure go hand in hand. "I want to broaden the appeal to outdoor activity whether it’s hiking, biking,
running or rafting," David says. "It’d be great for our guests to share stories and experiences with people of similar interests over a glass of Sugar Creek wine." In fact, it’s the rafting David is most passionate about as an enthusiast himself. This outdoor interest is apparent throughout: from the décor to the naming of the wines. The rustic interior invites customers to sample wine fashioned from reclaimed barn wood to make the tasting counter. A Blue Hole canoe hangs over the front door for all to see. And the names of wines represent rivers, streams, creeks, rapids and other
ABS O LUT E L IV IN GM AGAZ IN E .COM
notable sites along these waterways David believes pairs well with particular grape varietals. For example, Sugar Creek’s Sauvignon Blanc, a clear, sparkling wine is named Crystal Rapid after a large rapid in the Grand Canyon. Another example is their Pinot Noir, a smooth and easy drinking wine named after Velvet Falls rapid on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River in Idaho. Sugar Creek is named after a local creek that runs through Montgomery County, Ind. and is a quarter of a mile from where David and his vineyard partner, Zach Cain, planted their vineyard in 2012.

I want to broaden the appeal to outdoor activity whether it’s “hiking, biking, running or rafting," David says. "It’d be great for
“
our guests to share stories and experiences with people of similar interests over a glass of Sugar Creek wine.
A Tennessee native, David has canoed and rafted since high school, and most summers he and his family pack up head west. Some of the states most notable for rafting include Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. The idea for starting the winery is what David refers to as a "scramble match," a term used in golfing, where "you do not have total control of the game, but you can take advantage of someone else’s better shot," he says. "This is not something I planned a long time ago. It has evolved." If it wasn’t for David’s oldest daughter, Marie, marrying into the Cain farming family in Montgomery County, there probably wouldn’t be a vineyard and winery today.
32
"The land was available and the Cains were open to another opportunity. Terry Cain, the family patriarch, said, "You like drinking wine, have you ever thought about growing grapes and making wine? We have the land."David’s response: "Okay, we’ll plant grapes, see what happens. We got grapes, let’s make some wine. We can’t drink it all, let’s sell it. Where? Let’s find a place." While the business idea goes back to around 2011, the first planting went in the spring of 2012. The first harvest was produced in 2015 and last month, the winery opened. While having no retail experience, David did spend most of his professional career in the medical diagnostics industry. In fact, it was Roche Diagnostics (formerly Boehringer Mannheim Diagnostics) which brought him to Indiana in 1994. It also helps he has a bachelor’s in math and chemistry. "I was able to stay employed and fortunate enough to last through multiple industry acquisitions," David says.
ABS O LUT E L IV IN GM AGAZ IN E .COM
The transition to wine has been comparably easier. The 2.5 acres for the vineyard were carved out of the thousands of acres owned by the Cains. Those two and a half acres are able to hold 1,200 vines, all French/American hybrids and produce grapes conducive to growing in Indiana: Brianna, Traminette, Marquette, and Chambourcin. While Indiana and the Midwest in general tend to have higher sales in sweeter wines, Sugar Creek Winery offers red, white, sweet and dry wines. There is a wine for everyone, from the new wine drinker to more seasoned enthusiasts. According to David, it’s all about the grape: "What does the fruit give you? You can’t make good wine out of bad fruit," he says. With a staff of 12, which includes his daughter Bonnie, David has plans to invite bicycle, kayaking and canoe clubs, just to name a few to the winery. Already he has hosted real estate and other professionals. In an effort to be inclusive of other local businesses,
That’s why I have round tables, I want people to talk," David says. "And if

David has partnered with Joe’s Butcher Shop to provide cheese and meat plates to guests. Although recently opened, Sugar Creek has two awards under its belt. In 2013, its Muscat wine earned top honors followed by its Chambourcin Rose in 2017 in the amateur, non-commercial category from the INDY International Wine Competition held annually and sponsored by the Purdue Wine Grape Team.

While wines are front and center at Sugar Creek, it’s the outdoor spirit and camaraderie David yearns to channel through his viniferous creations. "That’s why I have round tables, I want people to talk," David says. "And if someone has been rafting or other activities, bring in your memorabilia pictures and we’ll hang them on our wall to share and enjoy."
