Memories...

What is your favorite memory from school? Is it a teacher that recognized something special in you that you didn't know was there? Was it the sound of a Friday night football game? Maybe it was a subject that challenged you and ended up being what sparked your career path.

I know every one of us can recall a memory from our formative years attending a school that we hold close. Memories that we hope all of the students today are making for themselves

Tonight is about memories.

Join us this evening and make memories in this beautiful setting while enjoying spectacular food and entertainment from Edmond Public Schools' finest talent.

Visit with friends you may not have seen in a while and reminisce about memories you have made together

As we look back on the amazing careers of our two inductees, and imagine the memories they have collected through their service of over 75 years to the students of Edmond Public Schools, think about how they may have impacted you or your children

As you settle inside at your table tonight, please share your fondest school memory with us using the card at your seat. As a tribute to the school, teacher, friend, or experience that provided that memory you hold so fondly, please consider turning the card over and making a donation to help provide those same kinds of memories for today's students at Edmond Public Schools

Connecting the community to advance excellence and enrich student opportunities through Edmond Public Schools.

V I S I O N

The Edmond Public Schools Foundation functions as the leading facilitator of community investment in Edmond Public Schools.

H A L L O F F A M E

The Hall of Fame started in 2014 as a way to recognize Edmond Public Schools alumni and educators who have made a significant contribution to Edmond Public Schools, the Edmond community, or have excelled in their chosen profession. Their accomplishments have positively impacted Edmond Public Schools students or reflected positively on the education they received right here in Edmond! Since the Hall of Fame was established, twenty three people have received this honor. Tonight we will induct two more deserving community members, making it twenty five!

JudyPendergraft

Judy (Goad) Pendergraft, Edmond Public Schools employee of 55 years, alumni, parent and grandparent, and great grandparent , is being inducted into the 2022 Edmond Public Schools Foundation Hall of Fame

Judy moved from Cleveland, OK to Edmond before her senior year and graduated from Edmond High School in 1962. After graduation, Superintendent Hugh Bingham hired her to work as a part time secretary for Ted Anderson at Edmond Jr High (now Boulevard Academy) while she attended college until 1965 In March of 1965, she married her high school

sweetheart, Art, from Cleveland. Afterwards, Judy went to work for TG&Y corporate offices for three before taking a year off when she had her first daughter, Cherie

In 1969, Dr. Hugh Bingham hired her again to work for Edmond Public Schools as the payroll clerk and receptionist at the Edmond Public Schools administration building In 1979, under the leadership of Dr. George Rowley, she was promoted to Administrative Assistant and Board Clerk. She has held that esteemed position under 8 Superintendents including Dr. George Woodward, Dr Randall Raburn, Mr Jim Jones, Dr Rex Carr, Dr David Goin, Mr Bret Towne and currently Dr. Angela Grunewald. While she was working for the district in 1974, she had her second daughter, Jody, with whom she shares a birthday with

Judy is amazed at how much the district has grown. When she graduated in 1962, there were 125 students in her graduating class; the district enrollment has grown from 3,000 and now has over 26,000 students. During her tenure, the district has grown from 7 to 19 elementary schools, 0 to 6 middle schools and 1 to 3 high schools. The district office has also grown from 4 5 employees to over 90 Judy said, “A big part of that growth is because Edmond is a beautiful place to live with a great reputation of a great school district.” When asked if it’s been a challenge going from a small district to a large one, she said, “You just keep working and learn to grow with the district.” Superintendent Dr. Angela Grunewald says it means so much to have Judy dedicate the amount of time she has to Edmond Public Schools. She described the breadth of knowledge of her historic career and involvement in numerous astonishing roles.

Judy is known around the Edmond Public Schools administration building for being hard working, dedicated, detail oriented and humble. She has been described as representing herself as she would want the district to be represented Past superintendents, Dr Goin and Mr. Towne praised her for being selfless and willing to do anything. Both described her ability to calm parents who initially were upset about a particular issue. They said by the time they talked to the Superintendent, Judy had calmed them with her pleasant and kind demeanor

This evening, Judy’s husband Art, daughters Cherie and Jody, her grandchildren, great grand children, as well as her sisters and their husbands, are here to celebrate this very special evening with her.

Mitzi Hancuff

For over twenty five years, Mitzi Hancuff served the Fine Arts Institute of Edmond and was instrumental to the artistic enrichment of countless youth through the use of the visual and performing arts, including the Art in Schools program which is celebrating its 20th anniversary!

As the Executive Director of the Fine Arts Institute of Edmond, Mitzi exemplified what it meant to be a community driven citizen and

leader as she strived to improve the lives of all by promoting creativity. She was incredibly important to the creation of the beloved Art in Schools Program, a collaborative effort between Edmond Public Schools and the Fine Arts Institute of Edmond In 2022, the Art in Schools program is in all twenty elementary schools in the Edmond Public School District and has had a profound impact on students and the Edmond community as a whole.

Mitzi describes the start of the Art in Schools program as a collaborative community effort that was the vision and hard work of numerous individuals with an interest in and passion for providing arts education for Edmond youth. When asked about how the program got started, she humbly recounts her role as a “facilitator of passion ”

Her dedication and devotion to the arts is crystal clear as she describes how art is a critical part of a well rounded education, including stimulating creativity, fostering self discovery, enhancing communication, promoting problem solving skills and building self esteem With what started in one school, Orvis Risner, now reaches all 3rd and 4th grade students in the entire district. Mitzi’s passion for serving the community through the arts has impacted hundreds of thousands of students!

It should come as no surprise that Mitzi has received many rewards for her hard work and leadership in the community One of these prestigious awards came in 2009 when she was awarded the Governor’s Art in Education Award from Governor Brad Henry. Mitzi was named the Edmond Women’s Club “Woman of the Year” in 1999, the Edmond Chamber’s “Citizen of the Year” in 2002, was the recipient of the Inaugural Edmond Arts Advocate Award in 2001, is a member of Edmond’s Hall of Fame, and was a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow She has elevated the Arts in Edmond and Edmond Public Schools by applying for, and receiving, a grant in 1998 from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Mitzi's husband, Carl, and her dear friends are here to celebrate with her tonight.

Congratulations, Inductees!

We are honored to sponsor these deserving 2022 Edmond Public Schools Foundation Hall of Fame inductees!

Carrie Higdon

This year's volunteer of the year not only gives back to students every day through her profession as a school administrator but also gives her time, talent and treasure to the Edmond Public Schools Foundation! As a volunteer, she always cheerfully and joyfully steps up for any task requested For years, she has been instrumental in reviewing scholarship and Student Ambassador applications and interviewing finalists She always offers to volunteer for events and is always willing to answer a call

Carrie has proudly served in education for 27 years, with 22 of those at Edmond Public Schools. In Edmond, Carrie served as Freshman Principal at Memorial High School, then served as Assistant Principal at Boulevard Academy, Cimarron and Heartland middle schools. Now back at Memorial, she is overjoyed to return home where she is serving as Freshman Principal again

She became an educator because she loved everything about the school experience She knew she wanted to make a difference and loves working with young people. When describing her fond memories, she shared, “I love attending school events and watching our students excel at what they are passionate about, whether that be winning a state championship or an amazing musical performance. I also love watching my students grow into the amazing humans they are Watching middle school students grow and mature and high school students growing into young adults has been a great ride and I can’t imagine doing anything else!”

Thank you Carrie for giving back to students in so many ways and going above and beyond and serving them through the Edmond Public Schools Foundation!
