Linda Slawson Community volunteer, philanthropist, retired model and beauty queen, Linda Slawson is a proud graduate of the Edmond Memorial High School class of ’1975. Crowned Mrs. Oklahoma 1990 she represented our state at the Mrs. America pageant held in Moscow, Russia where she was selected as “Most Photogenic.” During her reign, Linda entertained at Edmond and Oklahoma City public schools with the Kids on the Block puppet show, a troupe comprised of puppets both with and without disabilities. The show offered students the opportunity to learn about specific disabilities as well as broader themes of friendship, community building and celebrating differences. A longtime Fullerton model, Linda appeared in countless fashion shows and print ads as well as numerous commercials. She also enjoyed starring in productions at Jewel Box Theatre and Carpenter Square Theatre. As an etiquette instructor Linda graciously donated her time for over 20 years to teach to various youth groups, sororities and cotillions. A true world traveler she has enthusiastically visited all seven continents and 50 states. Linda is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Oklahoma City and Edmond Women’s Club where she served as president and was a Panhellenic Woman of the Year recipient. She served on the board of directors of Infant Crisis Services as well as March of Dimes and continues to support the Alzheimer’s Association, Impact Oklahoma, Juliette Low Leadership Society, American Heart Association Circle of Red and the United Way of Central Oklahoma Women’s Leadership Society. Married for over 41 years to Steve they share in the same guiding principle: give generously of your time, talent and resources to the community. Some of their philanthropic endeavors include “Slawson Hall” Earth, Energy and Environment Center at the University of Kansas, the Slawson Family Tiger Trek at the Sedgwick County Zoo, City Care Night Shelter, Arcadia Trails Integris Center, Girls Scouts Camp Trivera, Carver Mark Twain Head Start School, Peppers Ranch Foster Care Community, and the Red Day Run in Edmond.

Tom Snider Mr. Tom Snider is a well-known, retired secondary teacher, coach, and athletic director in the Edmond community. After 41 years of service to Edmond Public Schools, Mr. Snider retired in May of 2021. During this time, he and his wife, Rita, remained active in their church and raised four children - all of whom are graduates of Edmond North. Mr. Snider attended Oklahoma Christian University where he graduated with a degree in education. While a student, he was named to the NAIA All American Track Team three times. In 1980, Mr. Snider began his teaching career at Sequoyah Middle School in Edmond, Oklahoma. Along with his classroom assignment, he coached football, basketball, and track. In the late 1980’s, he accepted the position of the girls cross country and track coach at Edmond Memorial High School where he also taught United States History. During his last year at Edmond Memorial, both of his teams placed state runner up, and he received the OSSAA Coaches Achievement Award. In 1993, Mr. Snider moved to Edmond's newest high school, Edmond North, where he remained until 2021. His teaching assignments included United States History and team-taught, honors United States History and Literature. Mr. Snider was the first boys and girls cross country coach and the first girls track coach at Edmond North. Snider was named the Oklahoma Coaches Association Girls Track Coach of the year and Edmond North won numerous conference championships in its first decade as a high school. During the fall of 1997, Mr. Snider accepted the position of the first site athletic director for Edmond North, and he also continued his coaching duties until 2004. He was fortunate enough to see teams win over 100 conference and regional championships. Also, to date, North has won 68 state championships in 16 different sports. Edmond Public Schools was named the host site for the OSSAA State Cross Country Meet in 2007, and Mr. Snider became the director of the state meet. In 2018, he was inducted into the Oklahoma Track Coaches Hall of Fame. In the fall of 1998, UCO partnered with Edmond North to host the track portion of the Endeavor Games at North, and this partnership continues today. Because of his involvement, Mr. Snider was recently inducted into the UCO Endeavor Games Hall of Fame.

Bret Towne Mr. Bret Towne began serving as Superintendent of Edmond Public Schools in June 2015. Before that he served as the Associate Superintendent of General Administration/Operations for the district since 1999. The Oklahoma Association of School Administrators named him the Assistant Superintendent of the Year in 2015, Region No. 7 finalist for Assistant Superintendent of the Year in 2014 and Region No. 7 Superintendent of the Year for 2016, 2018 and 2021. In 2021 Mr. Towne was recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Cooperative Council of School Administrators. As superintendent, Mr. Towne initiated the conversion to digital learning in the district. Additionally, he increased the STEM opportunities in the district by having a robotics program at each high school, a Gateway to Technology program at all middle schools, STEM labs in elementary schools, and a K-5 computer science program. Towne also increased the number of foreign language opportunities in middle schools and began the hiring of additional school nurses and counselors district wide. During his career, Towne directed the design and construction of 1.6 million square feet of new construction and 1.3 million square feet of renovations, consisting of eight new schools, three new freshman academies and major additions including gyms, offices, media centers, cafeterias, computer labs, athletic facilities and 645 classrooms. While Superintendent, Mr. Towne and his wife Nancy realized the need to recruit and retain new educators to the profession. This resulted in the Rookie Teacher of the Year award that is given to a new teacher each year at the Celebration of Excellence. Their gift to establish this award has resulted in an endowed fund for the Celebration of Excellence event which includes recognition for Edmond Public Schools Rookie Teacher of the Year, Support Personnel of the Year and Teacher of the Year. He and his wife Nancy, a retired second-grade teacher, have two sons who graduated from Edmond Public Schools and a granddaughter who is in currently attending kindergarten in the district. He is an active member of Crossings Community Church. He enjoys reading, theater, Edmond Public Schools activities, athletics, and fine arts.
