You’ve loved it before and now it’s back — TRIVIA NIGHT!!! Do you love trivia?? Do you love to compete against your friends?? Then this night is for you!! Our theme this time is the WILD, WILD WEST, so grab some friends, come up with a team name and sign up in the ‘Count Me In’ book by (TODAY) Wednesday, JULY 18th @ 3:00 pm and you can compete for bragging rights of the ‘BEST TRIVIA TEAM IN IL AT EPWORTH VILLA’. Teams can be a maximum of 4 people and a minimum of 2 people.

The evening promises to be FUN for all! EVEN IF YOU DON’T WANT TO BE ON A TEAM, COME WATCH AND SUPPORT YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS.

CELLO CONCERT

BY JEREMY SHEETS WEDNESDAY, JULY 18 10:30 AM JOE WHITE LIVING ROOM Jeremy is a native of Dallas, Texas, where he began his journey as a musician in the 6th grade. While in Texas, Jeremy experienced recognition and success as a young performer.

Multiple times he was selected to perform with honor orchestras in his region including the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra.

In 2004, Jeremy was accepted to OCU on a full-tuition talent scholarship, where he studied with internationally renowned cellist, Tomasz Zieba. While studying at OCU, he won 1st place in the Ladies Music Club Competition (2011), performed with the Cellovoce ensemble, and sat principal cellist for the OCU Symphony Orchestra for multiple concerts. In 2014, he was selected to be the cellist in the first OCU Graduate String Quartet, providing him yet again a full-tuition scholarship. While at OCU, he also participated in a number of masterclasses with successful cellists such as: Tido Janssen, Euguene Osadchy, Matt Haimovitz, Zuil Bailey, and Christopher Adkins.

Outside of OCU, Jeremy’s performance experiences include the Fort Smith Symphony Orchestra, Poteet Theatre, the Fayetteville Opera (2016), in addition to recording for multiple singer-songwriter albums. Currently, he is a member of the HeartString Piano Trio, principal cellist for the Painted Sky Opera, and a cellist with the South Kansas Symphony. Currently Jeremy is a full-time private cello instructor at Servant Academy of the Arts at Church of the Servant.

SPIRITED: PROHIBITION IN AMERICA EXHIBIT TUESDAY, JULY 31, 2018 LEAVE @ 10:00 AM – RETURN @ APPROXIMATELY 4:00 PM $25.00/PERSON + LUNCH COSTS ($25.00 COVERS BUS AND MUSEUM ADMISSION ONLY) Let’s jump on the bus (NOT the Epworth Villa bus) and head to Enid to The Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center to see the traveling exhibit, Spirited: Prohibition in America which explores the era of prohibition when America went “dry.”

Learn about the complex issues that led America to adopt prohibition through the Eighteenth Amendment to the Constitution in 1919 until its repeal through the Twenty-first Amendment in 1933. The exhibition describes the amendment process, the changing role of liquor in American culture, prohibition’s impact on the roaring ’20s, the role of women, and how current liquor laws vary from state to state.

COFFEE CHAT WITH THE CEO Enjoy coffee with the CEO Thursday, JULY 19th, starting at 10:00 am in the Coffee Lounge. These coffees are being held every Thursday to give residents an opportunity to chat with the CEO in an informal setting.

ICE CREAM SUNDAES IN THE COFFEE LOUNGE WEDNESDAY, JULY 25TH 1:30—2:30 pm Dining Services will be offering ice cream sundaes in the Coffee Lounge on Wednesday, July 25th from 1:30 to 2:30 pm. There will be strawberry sauce, chocolate sauce, chopped nuts, whipped cream and cherries to top your sundae off. Market your calendar NOW so you don’t miss this COOL event. An old joke tells of the man who, while touring through New York City, asked someone, “How do you get to Carnegie Hall?” The response: “Practice, practice, practice.”

Admittance into an exclusive organization or institution is not easy. One usually has to have a certain amount of money, friends, and/or special abilities for that to happen. Take, for example, the baseball Hall of Fame. Nomination to be counted part of such an elite group must be earned. A player has to have the statistics to prove that he is worthy of belonging.

Entrance into God's kingdom (the subject of this study) is quite a different matter! There is no way we can earn admission. Our “statistics” are dismal; Romans 3:23 states that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” We can never measure up on our own.

To make it, we need help. In baseball terms, we needed a pinch hitter – someone to go to bat for us. That person is Jesus. He is “the way, and the truth, and the life” (John 14:6).

But he has a caution for us in this lesson, a caution we must heed.

Our own Fretta Moore will bless us on the piano at 9:15. You don't want to miss it. John Trent will lead us this Sunday.

‘50s SOCK HOP AUGUST 24Th It may seem a long way off now, but on Friday, August 24th Marketing will be sponsoring a ‘50s Sock Hop for residents, potential residents and guests. Plan now and get your best ’50s attire ready for the party. There will be prizes for the best dressed!!

SUNDAY BRUNCH IN THE REDBUD ROOM JULY 22ND 11:00 AM—1:30 PM On July 22nd, Dining Services will be serving the Sunday meal service in the Redbud Room. The Bistro will be closed for the day.

The Redbud Room will be open from 11:00 am-1:30 pm, with take-out meals available. You need to call the take-out line no later than 10:30 am. Your meal will be available for pickup or delivery (if sick only) at 1:15 pm. We will also accept walk-ins for take out in this venue. The resident must complete a menu form and pick up his or her order @ 1:15pm.

The menu is being developed and will be published as soon as it is completed with prices listed. We will be serving a plated meal with a starter and dessert. Please remember that the Epworth Villa dress code will be enforced on this day. All assisted devices will be placed in the garage and alcohol will not be allowed in this venue on Sunday.

STROKE SUPPORT GROUP TUESDAY, JULY 24TH 4:00 PM CAMBRIDGE ROOM The Stroke Support Group will be meeting on Tuesday, July 24th at 4:00 pm in the Cambridge Room. The Stroke Support group meets every other month on the third Tuesday of the month. Please consider joining this confidential group as we share and support one another. Questions may be made to Rev. MOBILE SHRED THURSDAY, JULY 26TH 9:00 AM GRAND LOBBY If you have any documents that need to be shredded, please bring them to the Grand Lobby by 9:00 am on Thursday, July 26th. Mobile Shred Incorporated will be here to securely shred any and all items you need safely disposed of (shredded) ‘on-site’ that day. After they shred whatever you bring for them to do, they will provide you with a certificate of destruction for your records. The cost per person for shredding will be $10.00. You must have cash! This service CANNOT BE BILLED THROUGH YOUR EPWORTH VILLA ACCOUNT. If you are interested in this service, please SIGN UP IN THE COUNT ME IN BOOK. WE MUST HAVE AT LEAST 7-10 people for the mobile shredder to come to Epworth.

EPWORTH VILLA LIBRARY NOTES: HOW TO LOCATE MATERIALS IN THE EPWORTH LIBRARY— FICTION BOOKS area shelved in alphabetical order by the last name of the author. This includes regular and large print volumes. Readers preferring LARGE PRINT books will find a BLUE DOT at the top of the spine on most of those books.

PAPERBACK BOOKS are shelved in alphabetical order by the last name of the author.

BIOGRAPHY BOOKS are shelved in alphabetical order by the last name of the person the book is about instead of the author. The reason is so that all books about a certain person will be shelved together.

NON-FICTION BOOKS are in subject order, according to the Dewey Decimal System.

Hopefully, this will assist readers in finding the books they want. Epworth is fortunate to have this library and all residents are encouraged to use the library. Just sign your name and the date, including the year, on the check out card and drop it in the box on the desk. Returned books can be placed on the desk or in the drawer of the desk.

LINDSEY MEDICAL FRIDAY, JULY 27TH DURING THE MORNING Lindsey Medical will be here July 27th during the morning hours to do FREE inspections of walkers and scooters. The only cost will be for parts. A service fee will be added IF an involved repair is needed, and they have to take it back to their store to complete the repair. They will not clean your equipment.

REMINDERS ABOUT THE POOL: We are approaching the time when grandkids and family come to visit and swim in the pool. Don’t forget the pool rules regarding visitors: All guests and family members (adults and children) must sign in and be accompanied and supervised by a resident. Residents are responsible for the actions of their guest(s) and the resident assumes financial and personal responsibility for any damage done.

A waiver of liability must be signed and a pool pass picked up at the front desk before any guests or family members may use the pool.

PUZZLES & COMPUTER HAVE BEEN RELOCATED The puzzles from the former business center on the 2nd floor, have been moved to a cabinet outside of the room. They are accessible to anyone who wants to use them so please feel free to do so.

Also, the computer for resident usage has been relocated to a table in front of the window on the same side of the balcony as the puzzles.
