THE ”TINKER FLYING HIGH” BAND FRIDAY, JULY 13TH 7:00 PM GRAND BALLROOM

The “Flying High” Band from Tinker Air Force Base is an all-volunteer group that was first formed in 1987. It rapidly became a popular group and has remained a very active organization on and off base. The musicians come from all areas, active duty, retired personnel to dependents, civilians, and friends, all whom share a commons interest in performing with their musical talents. With over 800 tunes in the library, covering patriotic marches and military protocol to the Big Band sounds of the 20s to the 90s, the band entertains groups of all ages. http://tinkerband.org/

THE WIDOW AND THE UNJUST JUDGE

LUKE 18:1-8

As of the time this was written, there were at least a dozen “judge” shows airing on North American television. Their popularity is traced to the launch of The People's Court in 1981. The formats are often the same: judge presides over certain types of cases, listens to evidence presented by each side, and issues a ruling. Usually these programs last a half hour and feature two cases; thus each case is wrapped up in a little under 15 minutes.

Not so the legal drama of this week's lesson! Our lesson text features instead a drawn-out process in which two people having entrenched viewpoints engage in a contest of wills. It may remind us of the old conundrum “What happens when an irresistible force meets an immovable object?” Jesus used this parable to call attention to important truths concerning our relationship with the ultimate judge, the judge of judges, Almighty God. Our own Fretta Moore will bless us on the piano at 9:15 am. You don't want to miss it.

FALL AND FIRE PREVENTION PRESENTATION MONDAY, JULY 16th 2:00 PM WOODWORTH ROOM Major Les Norman, Risk Reduction Officer with the Oklahoma City Fire Department will be here to present information on fall and fire prevention safety. Some of the topics he will cover are: smoking safety, exercise, cooking safety, mobility aids, burns, standing aids, smoke alarms, avoiding clutter, escape planning, and tripping hazards.

The goal of the program is to provide safety messages that will contribute to maintaining independent living by avoiding falls and fires.

CELLO CONCERT

BY JEREMY SHEETS WEDNESDAY, JULY 18 10:30 AM JOE WHITE LIVING ROOM Jeremy is a native of Dallas, Texas, where he began his journey as a musician in the 6th grade. While in Texas, Jeremy experienced recognition and success as a young performer.

Multiple times he was selected to perform with honor orchestras in his region including the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra.

In 2004, Jeremy was accepted to OCU on a full-tuition talent scholarship, where he studied with internationally renowned cellist, Tomasz Zieba. While studying at OCU, he won 1st place in the Ladies Music Club Competition (2011), performed with the Cellovoce ensemble, and sat principal cellist for the OCU Symphony Orchestra for multiple concerts. In 2014, he was selected to be the cellist in the first OCU Graduate String Quartet, providing him yet again a full-tuition scholarship. While at OCU, he also participated in a number of masterclasses with successful cellists such as: Tido Janssen, Euguene Osadchy, Matt Haimovitz, Zuil Bailey, and Christopher Adkins.

Outside of OCU, Jeremy’s performance experiences include the Fort Smith Symphony Orchestra, Poteet Theatre, the Fayetteville Opera (2016), in addition to recording for multiple singer-songwriter albums. Currently, he is a member of the HeartString Piano Trio, principal cellist for the Painted Sky Opera, and a cellist with the South Kansas Symphony. Currently Jeremy is a full-time private cello instructor at Servant Academy of the Arts at Church of the Servant.

Learn about the complex issues that led America to adopt prohibition through the Eighteenth Amendment to the Constitution in 1919 until its repeal through the Twenty-first Amendment in 1933. The exhibition describes the amendment process, the changing role of liquor in American culture, prohibition’s impact on the roaring ’20s, the role of women, and how current liquor laws vary from state to state.

We will stop for lunch somewhere either going or coming from the museum. **If you have already signed up you will be charged $25.00 each on your next Epworth Villa billing. *If you cancel you will still be billed the $25.00 unless you get someone to take your place.

SUNDAY BRUNCH IN THE REDBUD ROOM JULY 22ND 11:00 AM—1:30 PM On July 22nd, Dining Services will be serving the Sunday meal service in the Redbud Room. The Bistro will be closed for the day.

The Redbud Room will be open from 11:00 am-1:30 pm, with take-out meals available.

You need to call the take-out line no later than 10:30 am. Your meal will be available for pickup or delivery (if sick only) at 1:15 pm. We will also accept walk-ins for take out in this venue. The resident must complete a menu form and pickup his or her order @ 1:15pm.

The menu is being developed and will be published as soon as it is completed with prices listed. We will be serving a plated meal with a starter and dessert. Please remember that the Epworth Villa dress code will be enforced on this day. All assisted devices will be placed in the garage and alcohol will not be allowed in this venue on Sunday.

Mobile Shred Incorporated will be here to securely shred any and all items you need safely disposed of (shredded) ‘on-site’ that day. This includes regular and large print volumes. Readers preferring LARGE PRINT books will find a BLUE DOT at the top of the spine on most of those books.

PAPERBACK BOOKS are shelved in alphabetical order by the last name of the author.

BIOGRAPHY BOOKS are shelved in alphabetical order by the last name of the person the book is about instead of the author. The reason is so that all books about a certain person will be shelved together.

NON-FICTION BOOKS are in subject order, according to the Dewey Decimal System.

Hopefully, this will assist readers in finding the books they want. Epworth is fortunate to have this library and all residents are encouraged to use the library. Just sign your name and the date, including the year, on the check out card and drop it in the box on the desk. Returned books can be placed on the desk or in the drawer of the desk.

OKC TOWN HALL LECTURE SERIES TICKETS ON SALE NOW!!

OKC Town Hall Lecture 2018-19 Season Ticket for all lectures are only $90. Single lecture tickets are available for $30. Residents attending are responsible for buying their own tickets.

This year OKC Town Hall will be moving to a new location, UMC--Church of the Servant on N. MacArthur Rd. As in the past, we will leave Epworth Villa at 9:30 am in order to arrive at the church in plenty of time for residents to be seated. We do not stay for lunch. The bus will pick everyone up at 11:30 am or at the conclusion of the program to return to Epworth. If you would like to stay for the luncheon you MUST provide your own transportation. Transportation for the bus is $4.00 per person and you can sign up in the ‘Count Me In Book’.

REMINDERS ABOUT THE POOL: We are approaching the time when grandkids and family come to visit and swim in the pool. Don’t forget the pool rules regarding visitors: All guests and family members (adults and children) must sign in and be accompanied and supervised by a resident. Residents are responsible for the actions of their guest(s) and the resident assumes financial and personal responsibility for any damage done.

A waiver of liability must be signed and a pool pass picked up at the front desk before any guests or family members may use the pool.

PUZZLES & COMPUTER HAVE BEEN RELOCATED The puzzles from the former business center on the 2nd floor, have been moved to a cabinet outside of the room. They are accessible to anyone who wants to use them so please feel free to do so.

Also, the computer for resident usage has been relocated to a table in front of the window on the same side of the balcony as the puzzles.
