Telling the Tales of GirlStrong
By Elena Shimanek, LPC-Candidate
Edmond Family Counseling School is winding down yet again, summer is just around the corner, and Edmond Family Counseling is anticipating another exhilarating summer of GirlStrong Day Camps!
This summer, EFC will host 5 weeks packed with fun projects and engaging lessons in our storybook themed camp for incoming 3rd-6th grade Edmond girls. Each week we can accommodate 16 girls completely free of charge, and all groups are en-sured to have opportunities for fun and great support from our wonderful counselors.
Each lesson, art project, and game are carefully designed and led by EFC’s counselors. The girls will learn about a variety of top-ics, including values, self-esteem, friendships, positive body image, teamwork, and emotional regulation. They discuss ways to ad-dress negative thoughts, anxiety, and stress, and how to regulate big feelings when experiencing different emotions.
Arts and craft projects are utilized to encourage our girls to highlight their personal strengths, best qualities, and to give them the opportunity for fun in skill building and caring for oneself.
The girls will play games that test their problem-solving and social skills every day. We encourage teamwork, asking for help, and healthy communication to succeed.
Our counselors are looking forward to seeing familiar faces as well as making new friends this year. GirlStrong has always been such a fun way to introduce important life skills. We hope that all our girls will come in and gain skills, support, and have a lot of fun with our activities and our staff. If you’re interested in signing up, please contact us at Edmond Family Counseling, 405-341-3554.
Good luck with the end of the school year and we hope to see you very soon to write our own story!
