Shenandoah Valley Simmental’s 1st Annual Pick of the Pen Sale At the Farm

Greetings Fellow Cattle Men and Women, We’d like to personally invite you to attend Shenandoah’s Shining Stars, our First Annual Pick of the Pen Sale in the heart of the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. A special welcome is extended to our many repeat customers who’ve become good friends over the years. And we hope to meet new folks at the sale and develop new friendships as well.

This sale is 34 years in the making and is replacing our private treaty bull sales. So, if you need a bull in the Spring come visit us sale day.

All cattle in the catalog are of similar phenotype. We weren’t able to get many pictures due to the severe drought this spring, summer and fall. So, look at the photos we were able to get, at the reference photos and visit our website www. shenandoahvalleysimmentals.com to see the type of cattle in the sale.

The bulls are stout. They’re raised on a forage-based diet and are kept in the hilliest, rockiest fescue pastures. They travel with ease here so they’ll travel with ease to breed cows.

The females being offered are my best. They’re flashy, easyfleshing, moderate frame, structurally sound, and wide-hipped with tremendous capacity and solid EPDs. We’re very strict on udder quality too.

The embryos are out of my best donors. Look at the full siblings on display: SVS Keep Dreamin’ RNB1 and his full sister SVS Lady Bug WNBA, and SVS Magic Passion WFW7 too. In the show ring or in the pasture, progeny from these embryos should be winners. Semen from Keep Dreamin’ will be available for private sale on sale day. Bring your semen tank to take advantage of these genetics.

And we’re very proud to welcome our guest consignor, Mill Creek Farm from Mt. Jackson, VA. Gene Dellinger and Susan Miller, DVM are well respected breeders in the club calf arena and are offering sound, functional, maternally-bred commercial females sired by SVS Keep Dreamin’ RNB1 and GF Maximus.

These females should perform equally well as club calf producers and as mamas in the pasture.

Mature Herd Sires

Herd Health:

All cattle will have proper health certificates for immediate interstate shipment. The bred females have been pregnancy examined and are confirmed safe. All bulls have passed a breeding soundness

examination. Each animal will be at the purchaser’s risk immediately after it is sold. Shenandoah Valley Simmentals is reserving 50% semen interest on a few select bulls. These bulls, if collected, will be collected at the seller’s expense and the buyer’s convenience. The buyer has 100% natural possession and 100% salvage value. An updated data sheet containing calving information and additional bull data will be available sale day. All scrotal circumferences listed in catalog are on a yearling basis.

Registration Certificates:

Cattle will be transferred to the buyer at the seller’s expense. All calves born before the sale will be registered by the seller; calves born after the sale are to be registered by the buyer. Buyers must provide the sale clerk with complete information for transferring registration certificates.

All person(s) attending the sale do so at their own risk. Neither the sale management or owners, or anyone associated with the conduction of this sale, assume liability for personal injury, accidents or loss of property while traveling to or from or while attending this sale.

“Pick of the Pen” Protocol:

It’s easy! Typically, cattle are grouped in pens with multiple head per pen. The cattle remain in these pens throughout the sale until load-out.

The auction will be held in a barn. The cattle won’t be brought into a sale ring. Study the cattle and make your selections before the sale begins.

Each pen is assigned a very conservative opening bid. Cattle are auctioned one pen at a time. To start bidding, someone must offer the opening bid and then we auction to the highest bidder. The highest bidder then selects which animal they desire at that winning price. The bidding then starts over at the opening bid and continues until the pen is empty or no one offers the opening bid on the remaining animal(s).

If unsold animals are left in a pen, we “Pass the Pen”. Any animals in a Passed Pen are available for purchase at the opening bid price on a first come, first serve basis at the settlement table until the end of the day. Animals will not be sold below their opening bid price.
