I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the 6th Annual Performance, Pedigree, Power Bull Sale. Prices are at a profitable level and still historically high. With the dip in the cattle market, efficient cattle are paying dividends now more than ever. We feel that this set of bulls is the best that we have offered for sale to date. Our cowherd is run like any commercial cowherd. With the moderate feed costs that we are faced with, we demand that our cows be efficient and are able to convert forage into pounds. Efficient, sensibly frame sized cattle have proved their economic value now more than ever.

We realize there are many bull sales as to which you can find a bull and we thank you for your consideration. We want to emphasize the fact that when you buy one of our bulls, you are not just buying a bull, but buying into a program that is committed to providing you the best product available
anywhere. Every year we have people come through that have been to other sales and tell us that our bulls are as good or better than anywhere they have been. All of the bulls have been ultrasounded and that data is available. They have also been fertility tested and will be ready to go to work. We provided you with this information to be let our bulls be as transparent as possible. We want you to be informed as you can be about your new purchase. I have always said that if breeders are not providing you with this data, they are trying to hide something. Again this year, our bulls were developed on Purina’s Impact Grower. This was an easy decision for us due to all of the positive feedback from the past bull sales. We had many reports how impressed buyers were that their bulls didn’t melt after turnout and they stayed good on their feet and legs. Our bulls have also been BVD-PI tested negative. Once again we will offer a handful of select Angus bulls. We think these bulls

This bull is the result of a mating that has flat worked the last several years. We have retained two full sisters to this bull and one is the dam of the 540C standout bull in this sale. The other is a bred heifer. We sold another sister and she topped the female sale a couple years back. I debated keeping this bull to use for ourselves, but we are getting several Madden daughters around and I don’t think it will work. Our loss is your gain.

This bull’s dam consistently puts bulls top bulls in the sale. She has had several high sellers as well and we have some very nice daughters out of her. If you asked me what cow we have purchased from Foundation Cattle is my favorite, I would tell you this bull’s mother. She is an absolutely beautiful cow with a great udder. sons of Rubys Absolut 317A The Absolut cattle took our female sale by storm! He was strictly used in a clean up role and produced $20,000 and $17,000 heifer calves in his first calf crop. As nice as his heifers are, his bull calves may be better. They start small and grow hard. They are long bodied cattle that are very sound and attractive. They offer a different twist in the pedigree department as well.

This baldy bull has always been one of my favorites. He is hardy as well, as he had a tougher go than most when he lost his mother this summer and finished the last few weeks on pasture by himself. I love his soundness, softness, and squareness, and the way he combines that with a killer look. A full brother in blood to this bull sold for $75,000 this past fall at the Black Label sale in Texas. First, determine which index to use; if you’re keeping replacements use API, if not, TI. Then, just as with EPDs, zero in on the unit difference between bulls. (As described to the left, index units are in dollars per cow exposed.) The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Or, put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all-purpose-type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a $50 bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. x 4 yr. = $6,000).
