SERVING OUR BULL CUSTOMERS SINCE 1944

When you buy a Knoll Crest bull, you do more than purchase an animal – you tie to a program.

KNOLL CREST FARM is firmly committed to delivering service with each bull. We conduct our business in a manner that demands providing only the very best genetics for our valued customers. Along with “valueadded” genetics, we provide “value added” service.

BULL GUARANTEE: Knoll Crest will insure each bull it sells in an unconditional manner against death or injury for one year. The insurance value shall be for 100% of the total cost of the bull, provided they have received reasonable care. Knoll Crest shall receive salvage value, if there is any. Purchaser agrees to have bulls examined (or autopsied) by a licensed veterinarian and notify Knoll Crest immediately. If a replacement bull is available, he will be provided, or if the buyer prefers, credit toward one bull will be given in the following year’s sale. Replacement bulls are not covered by this guarantee.

BULL PICK UP AND DELIVERY: Pick up your bull on sale day and receive a $50 discount on each bull purchased which will be applied at checkout time. If you pick up your bull within 7 days of the sale date, you will be refunded $50 per bull. These discounts do not apply outside of the sale, on bulls that have been returned, and on replacement bulls. For bulls sold through Telo-Auction or LiveAuctions.TV, we will contact you to organize suitable pickup or shipping arrangements.

DELIVERY: If you need a bull delivered, we can arrange to have your bull delivered to a central location in the continental US. We guarantee cost will not exceed $300 per head.

WINTERING OF BULLS: Knoll Crest will winter bulls selling for $4,500 or more until March 1, 2026, at no cost. Other bulls may be wintered at a cost of $4/day. This will allow producers to buy bulls for future use and not have to take possession until Spring.

VOLUME DISCOUNTS: Buyers purchasing 2 or more bulls will receive a volume discount as follows: 2 bulls = 2%, 3 bulls = 3%, 4 bulls = 4%, 5 or more bulls = 5%. These discounts do not apply outside of the sale and on replacement bulls.

PAYMENT SCHEDULE 2025-2026: For taxation purposes, it may be beneficial for some customers to pay for cattle after January 1, 2026. Therefore, we will gladly accept payment at sale (2025) or by January 5, 2026.

SEMEN INTEREST: Knoll Crest Farm will retain a 1/3 semen interest in every bull selling. In reality, this will affect only a very few bulls that sell. KCF reserves the right to collect semen at KCF’s cost and at the buyers’ convenience. KCF retains 1/3 of the semen revenue rights for each bull. The buyer owns 100% possession and 100% salvage value.

BULL DEVELOPMENT AND CONTEMPORARY GROUPING

Weaning weights (for 205 day adjusted weights) were taken in May. Bulls were weaned on pasture and hay. They were developed on a forage based ration through the summer until complete yearling data was collected in September and October.

The bulls were divided into several contemporary groups for “ratioing” purposes at weaning and yearling. They were grouped by breed, pre-weaning location and management. ET bulls were put into separate contemporary groups. Our goal is to minimize confusion, while practicing sound genetic evaluation principals. Please give Paul a call if you have questions.

An Expected Progeny Difference (EPD) is a prediction of how future progeny of a sire or dam are expected to perform in various production and carcass traits which are measurable. EPDs are expressed in actual pounds, square inches, or centimeters (depending on the trait), plus or minus what you can expect in the weights or measurements of progeny sired by a particular animal as compared with another animal.

The EPDs of the animals listed in this sale book can be compared to other animals of the same breed.

The CAB® icon will appear on the pedigree of those bulls that meet the criteria for targeting the Certified Angus Beef® Brand.

Targeting the Certified Angus Beef® Brand

CAB® Best Practices Manual identifies the following criteria to best target bulls that will sire calves likely to meet the CAB® brand. Bulls in our sale book that meet the criteria have this logo on their pedigree following the animal’s name.

Demand for Certified Angus Beef (CAB®) brand has never been stronger. 1.21 billion pounds of CAB® was sold in the fiscal year 2020! With packers and feedlots looking to meet this demand, the future is bright for cattlemen who have the genetics in their calf crop that can achieve high quality grades and the CAB® brand’s specifications.

EPD Values taken from Spring 2021 Sire Evaluation Non-Parent Bulls report.

Sire EPD Recommendations for Angus-based Cowherds (From CAB® Best Practices Manual)

Calving Ease Direct (CED) - is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births, with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first-calf heifers. It predicts the average difference in ease with which a sire’s calves will be born when he is bred to first-calf heifers.

Birth Weight EPD (BEPD) - predicts the difference in average birth weight of a bull’s calves compared to calves of another bull. Reported in pounds.

*Experience has shown that an Angus bull with a CED EPD of +8 or higher and a BW EPD of +2.0 or less can be used on first-calf heifers with a minimal number of calving problems. If you do not have heifers to breed and just need a bull for cows that have calved before, most Angus bulls are acceptable for use on mature cows from a birth weight standpoint.

Weaning Weight EPD (WEPD) - is a prediction of a bull’s ability to transmit weaning growth to his progeny. For example, Bull A has a Weaning Weight EPD of +60 pounds and Bull B has a Weaning Weight EPD of +40 pounds. At weaning, Bull A’s calves will average 20 pounds heavier. A higher number is desirable.

Residual Average Daily Gain (RADG), feed efficiency expressed in pounds per day, is a predictor of a sire’s genetic ability for postweaning gain in future progeny compared to that of other sires, given a constant amount of feed consumed.

Yearling Weight EPD (YEPD) - takes into account both pre-weaning and post weaning growth. Yearling weight is the most heritable of all growth traits.

You can expect bulls with high Yearling EPDs to produce fast gaining calves. If Bull A has a Yearling EPD of +90 and Bull B has a Yearling EPD of +60, Bull A’s calves will average 30 pounds heavier than Bull B’s at one year of age.

Scrotal Circumference EPD (SC) - expressed in centimeters, is a predictor of the difference in transmitting ability for scrotal size compared to that of other sires.

Docility (DOC), is expressed as a difference in yearling cattle temperament, with a higher value indicating more favorable docility. It predicts the average difference of progeny from a sire in comparison with another sire’s calves.

Calving Ease Maternal (CEM), is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first-calf daughters. It predicts the average ease with which a sire’s daughters will calve as first-calf heifers when compared to daughters of other sires.

Milk EPD - Expressed in pounds of weaning weight that result from the amount of milk produced by daughters of a particular bull, as compared to the daughters of other bulls. If Bull A is +25 for Milk and Bull B is +15, bull A’s daughters’ calves will weigh 10 pounds heavier at weaning due to her superior milking ability.

CARCASS EPDS

Carcass Weight EPD (CW) - expressed in pounds, is a predictor of the differences in hot carcass weight of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.

Marbling EPD (Marb) - predicts the difference in average USDA marbling score of a bull’s progeny compared to progeny of another bull at a similar end point. The higher the value, the higher the amount of intramuscular fat (taste fat) in the ribeye, which positively affects quality grade.

Ribeye Area EPD (RE) - expressed in square inches, is a predictor of the difference in ribeye area of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.

$VALUE INDEXES

$Value indexes, are multi-trait selection indexes to assist beef producers by adding simplicity to genetic selection decisions. $Values are reported in dollars per head, where a higher value is more favorable. The $Value is an estimate of how future progeny of each sire are expected to perform, on average, compared to progeny of other sires in the database if the sires were randomly mated to cows and if calves were exposed to the same environment.

Maternal Weaned Calf Value ($M), is the most maternally-focused selection index currently available to Angus members and commercial users of Angus genetics. $M, expressed in dollars per head, aims to predict profitability differences in progeny due to genetics from conception to weaning.

Feedlot Value ($F), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for postweaning merit compared to progeny of other sires.

Grid Value ($G), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for carcass grid merit compared to progeny of other sires.

$G combines both $QG and $YG, and may be the best carcass decision tool for focusing on quality and red meat yield simultaneously.

Beef Value ($B), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for postweaning and carcass value compared to progeny of other sires.

Combined $Value Index($C), expressed in dollars per head, is an index which includes all traits that make up both Maternal Weaned Calf Value ($M) and Beef Value ($B) with the objective that commercial producers will replace 20% of their breeding females per year with replacement heifers retained within their own herd.

THE KNOLL CREST ANGUS COWHERD

At Knoll Crest, our definition of true genetic progress is not always the result of rapid generation turnover. In an effort to create genetics that have lasting value over time, and in an effort to propagate as few genetic weaknesses as possible, we focus heavily on cows and cow families that are long-term survivors in our predominantly “hot fescue” environment. Each spring, the Angus Association’s Pathfinder Report identifies individual females in the breed who excel in early puberty, early breeding and calving, and producing quality calves on time, year over year. A female must have a minimum of three calves before being considered for Pathfinder. Only 2.6% of Angus dams qualify for Pathfinder status. In 2025, 2,952,506 Angus dams were analyzed for Pathfinder qualifications, with only 7,577 qualifying.

CALVING EASE (CE) RATING

Often, we are asked questions about calving ease potential in bulls of different breeds. The CE Rating for each bull is our best estimate of how he will perform for this trait. Scores are the result of considering all associated factors, including EPDs for CE and BW, actual BW and parental / pedigree history. Bulls with 4 or 5 stars are considered safe for use on virgin heifers. Bulls rated 3 are marginally safe, depending on the size of the heifers, nutrition, calving season, etc. Bulls rated 1 or 2 are considered safe for use on mature cows, but not recommended for use on virgin heifers. Feel free to contact Paul or Dalton for further explanation.

UNDERSTANDING HEREFORD EPDS

The American Hereford Association (AHA) currently produces expected progeny differences (EPDs) for 17 traits and calculates three profit ($) indexes. AHA’s genetic evaluation makes use of a Marker Effects Model that allows the calculation of EPDs by incorporating the pedigree, phenotypic and genomic profile of an animal. Animals that have a genomic profile will be denoted with a GE-EPD logo.

The current suite of Hereford EPDs and $ indexes includes:

Calving Ease — Direct (CE)

CE EPD is based on calving ease scores and birth weights and is measured on a percentage. CE EPD indicates the influence of the sire on calving ease in females calving at 2 years of age. For example, if sire A has a CE EPD of 6 and sire B has a CE EPD of -2, then you would expect on average if comparably mated, sire A’s calves would be born with an 8% more likely chance of being unassisted when compared to sire B’s calves.

Birth Weight (BW)

BW EPD is an indicator trait for calving ease and is measured in pounds. For example, if sire A has a BW EPD of 3.6 and sire B has a BW EPD of 0.6, then you would expect on average if comparably mated, sire A’s calves would come 3 lb. heavier at birth when compared to sire B’s calves. Larger BW EPDs usually, but not always, indicate more calving difficulty. The figure in parentheses found after each EPD is an accuracy value or reliability of the EPD.

Weaning Weight (WW)

WW EPD is an estimate of pre-weaning growth that is measured in pounds. For example, if sire A has a WW EPD of 60 and sire B has a WW EPD of 40, then you would expect on average if comparably mated, sire A’s calves would weigh 20 lb. heavier at weaning when compared to sire B’s calves.

Yearling Weight (YW)

YW EPD is an estimate of post-weaning growth that is measured in pounds. For example, if sire A has a YW EPD of 100 and sire B has a YW EPD of 70, then you would expect on average if comparably mated, sire A’s calves would weigh 30 lb. heavier at a year of age when compared to sire B’s calves.

Scrotal Circumference (SC)

Measured in centimeters and adjusted to 365 days of age, SC EPD is the best estimate of fertility. It is related to the bull’s own semen quantity and quality, and is also associated with age at puberty of sons and daughters. Larger SC EPDs suggest younger age at puberty. Yearling sons of a sire with a .7 SC EPD should have yearling scrotal circumference measurements that average 0.7 centimeters (cm) larger than progeny by a bull with an EPD of 0.0 cm.

Sustained Cow Fertility (SCF)

The AHA’s new Sustained Cow Fertility EPD (SCF) is a prediction of a cow’s ability to continue to calve from three years of age through twelve years of age, given she calved as a two-year-old. The EPD is

TIME TESTED...

expressed as a deviation in the proportion of the ten-possible calving’s to twelve years old expressed as a probability. For example, the daughters of a bull with a 30 EPD would have the genetic potential to have one more calf by age twelve then the daughters from a bull with a 20 EPD. In other words, the daughters from the 30 EPD bull would have a 10% greater probability of having one more calf than the bull with a 20 EPD. This is equivalent to saying that the daughters are 10% more likely to remain in the herd to age 12.

Maternal Milk (MM)

The milking ability of a sire’s daughters is expressed in pounds of calf weaned. It predicts the difference in average weaning weights of sires’ daughters’ progeny due to milking ability. Daughters of the sire with a +14 MM EPD should produce progeny with 205-day weights averaging 24 lb. more (as a result of greater milk production) than daughters of a bull with a MM EPD of -10 lb. (14 minus -10.0 = 24 lb.). This difference in weaning weight is due to total milk production during the entire lactation.

Udder Suspension (UDDR)

UDDR EPDs are reported on a 9 (very tight) to 1 (very pendulous) scoring scale. Differences in sire EPDs predict the difference expected in the sires’ daughters’ udder characteristics when managed in the same environment. For example, if sire A has a UDDR EPD of 0.4, and sire B has a UDDR EPD of -0.1, the difference in the values is 0.5, or onehalf of a score. If daughters of sires A and B are raised and managed in the same environment, you would expect half a score better udder suspension in daughters of sire A, compared to sire B.

Teat Size (TEAT)

TEAT EPDs are reported on a 9 (very small) to 1 (very large, balloon shaped) scoring scale. Differences in sire EPDs predict the difference expected in the sires’ daughters’ udder characteristics when managed in the same environment. For example, if sire A has a teat size EPD of 0.4, and sire B has a teat size EPD of -0.1, the difference in the values is 0.5, or one-half of a score. If daughters of sires A and B are raised and managed in the same environment, you would expect half a score smaller teat size in daughters of sire A, compared to sire B.

Ribeye Area (REA)

REA EPDs reflect differences in an adjusted 365-day ribeye area measurement based on carcass measurements of harvested cattle. Sires with relatively higher REA EPDs are expected to produce bettermuscled and higher percentage yielding slaughter progeny than will sires with lower REA EPDs. Ultrasound measurements are also

incorporated into this trait and have been shown to be highly correlated with the performance of slaughter progeny. All data is expressed on a carcass scale.

Marbling (MARB)

MARB EPDs reflect differences in an adjusted 365-day marbling score (intramuscular fat, [IMF]) based on carcass measurements of harvested cattle. Breeding cattle with higher MARB EPDs should produce slaughter progeny with a higher degree of IMF and therefore higher quality grades. Ultrasound measurements are also incorporated into this trait and have been shown to be highly correlated with the performance of slaughter progeny. All data is expressed on a carcass scale.

Baldie Maternal Index (BMI$)

The Baldy Maternal Index is a maternally focused index that is based on a production system that uses Hereford x Angus cross cows. Progeny of these cows are directed towards Certified Hereford Beef. This index has significant weight on Sustained Cow Fertility, which predicts fertility and longevity of females. There is a slightly positive weight on Weaning Weight, Mature Cow Weight and Milk which accounts for enough growth but ensures females do not increase inputs. There is some negative emphasis on Dry Matter Intake, but a positive weighting on Carcass Weight which is anticipated to provide profitability from finishing of non-replacement females and castrated males. Marbling and Rib-eye Area are also positively weighted to keep the harvested progeny successful for CHB. This index is geared to identify Hereford bulls that will be profitable when used in a rotational cross with mature commercial Angus cows.

Certified Hereford Beef Index (CHB$)

The Certified Hereford Beef Index is a terminal sire index that is built on a production system where Hereford bulls are mated to mature commercial Angus cows and all progeny will be targeted for Certified Hereford Beef after the finishing phase. This index has significant weight on Carcass Weight to ensure profit on the rail. As well there is a positive weighting for Average Daily Gain along with a negative weighting on Dry Matter Intake to ensure efficient pounds of growth in the finishing phase. Keep in mind, this production system takes advantage of complimentary breeding with the commercial Angus cow. Although Marbling is weighted positively in this index, a positive weighting for Rib-eye Area and a negative weighting for Back Fat are a greater priority in this index to allow for optimum end-product merit. This is the only index that has no emphasis on fertility. Remember that no replacement heifers are being retained.

The Bennett family at Knoll Crest Farm has been in the business of supplying bulls to our customers in Southside Virginia since 1944. Through those 81 years, our family has experienced many price cycles, droughts, cattle type pendulums, genetic selection innovations, technology evolutions and advancements. It is our belief that a primary component of quality customer service is understanding the ongoing needs of our customers…and producing seedstock that are functional, efficient, adaptable, “user friendly,” sustainable and, in culmination, profitable for the long haul. We are proud of the fact that we require our cowherd to thrive on hot fescue. Our focus includes breeding goals based on the fundamentals of producing balanced trait cattle that are backed by many generations of selection pressure.

INDUSTRY FOCUSED...…

ANGUS

The Knoll Crest Angus cowherd produced 50 Pathfinder Dams in 2025. The herd has the most Pathfinders of any herd east of the Mississippi River.

The Knoll Crest Hereford cowherd produced 29 Dams of Distinction in 2024. The herd has the most Dams of Distinction of any herd east of the Mississippi River.

The Knoll Crest herd produced 92 CHB Sires of Distinction in 2025. These bulls represent 6.7% of all sires recognized and the KCF herd produced, by far, the most CHB Sires of Distinction of any herd in the breed.

These recognitions give evidence of our commitment to comprehensive data collection and unwavering selection pressure on traits that affect maternal performance, as well as end product merit.

KNOLL CREST FARM

THE KNOLL CREST HEREFORD COWHERD

At Knoll Crest, our definition of true genetic progress is not always the result of rapid generation turnover. In an effort to create genetics that have lasting value over time, and in an effort to propagate as few genetic weaknesses as possible, we focus heavily on cows and cow families that are long-term survivors in our predominantly “hot fescue” environment.

• Monument was the standout performer in his contemporary group, posting a 96 BWR, 119 WWR and 115 YWR. He is massively constructed, easy fleshing, athletic and nearly perfect footed.

• No animal in the Hereford population comes close to matching his unique combination of calving ease, growth, SCF, MCW, REA and Marbling.

• In addition, he ranks top 1-2% for all index values and has the distinction of ranking in the top 2% CW yet smallest 3% MCW.

To clarify, Black (RC) means that the animal is black but carries the red gene. Homozygous Black means that the animal is black and carries only the black gene for color. Double Polled means that the animal is polled and both parents are polled.

SALE, FRIDAY, DECEMBER 4, 2026

VIDEO AUCTION FORMAT

With the technology available we feel we can still have a “live” auction without an animal standing in the ring. This will allow us to place less stress on livestock and the crew handling them. Instead, we will have video footage of each and every animal prerecorded to play in the sale ring as the animals are auctioned off.

Video footage of the bulls will be available on www.knollcrestfarm.com about November 14, 2025. Animals will be sorted and available for viewing on sale day. If you would like to view the animals at the farm prior to the sale day, please give us a call and we would be glad to accommodate your request.

Live audio and prerecorded video footage will also be available on www.LiveAuctions. TV for buyers to bid who are unable to be at the auction on sale day. We will also be providing our telo-auction service as we have in years past.
