Nos sentimos muy complacidos en presentarles nuestra nueva Edición Comercial de IRBBA. La raza del Brangus Rojo, es mundialmente reconocida por el tremendo mercado que tiene para sus hembras comerciales y registradas, embriones y semen.

Hemos venido trabajando fuertemente, para aumentar el mercado para nuestros toros, y ciertamente podemos asegurar que la demanda por los toros Brangus Rojo ha aumentado.

The Red Brangus breed is worldwide known for its tremendous market for our registered, and commercial females, embryos and semen. We have been working hard to grow our bull market, and I am sure that you are seeing increased demand for your Red Brangus bulls. Our commercial clients are realizing that Red Brangus cattle combine the hardiness, disease resistance and unmatched maternal instincts of the Brahman breed with the superior carcass quality, fertility, maternal and milking ability of the Angus.

turnout, and I am proud of what we accomplished. This year we will enhance it with a larger scaled non haltered sale that incorporates the “Divas in Red” elite heifer offering. The event will be on Saturday, April 30, 2016, and includes our “Measuring to Success” education program,” a Red Brangus female sale, and cattle displays, all of which will showcase our cattle. The program will be promoted in the U.S. and to our international clients.

The success of this new expanded sale will depend on all of us helping to promote it and inviting people to it.

Start making plans, as it is quickly approaching, April 30th … it will be a barn burner!

We welcome a host of new members to our roster! We are excited that you have joined the IBBA and look forward to working side by side with you to promote this tremendous breed.

We continue to focus on developing the international market and relationships around the Red Brangus world. This year I was able to participate in a several key international events. It's amazing to see how the Red Brangus breed is booming all over the world. We are starting to harvest the seed that we planted years ago. However, we need to be plan strategically, retain valuable replacement heifers, and continue to grow with quality.

Don't forget about each year's most important event - our Genetic Edge Sale: Saturday, March 5, 2016, in the Reliant Center during the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. The sale will have some of the best Red Brangus genetics being offered. The sale gets underway at 8:00 pm. It will be proceeded by the IBBA th National Show, with the Bull Show on Friday afternoon March 4 th and the Female Show on Saturday, March 5 .

Last, and perhaps most important, I would like to invite you and encourage you to go with us to the World Brangus Congress in South Africa. Join us in May 2016 for the World Brangus Congress in South Africa. For more details you can visit www.brangus.org.za. Importance and Value of Red Brangus Cattle to the US Beef Industry Joe C. Paschal, PhD. Livestock Specialist.

When I was asked by my good and longtime friend Marcos Borges, Jr., to write this article about Red Brangus cattle I immediately said that I would. Red Brangus is one of what are often called the “Eared Breeds”, breeds that have been developed using Bos indicus or Brahman genetics in combination with non-Bos indicus genetics. Those genetics in crosses confer fertility, maternal ability, and growth in addition to hot climate adaptability and some disease and parasite resistance or tolerance. I think the Red Brangus

Cuando mi buen amigo de hace mucho tiempo, Marcos Borges, Jr., me solicitó escribir un artículo sobre el Brangus Rojo, inmediatamente le dije que sí lo haría. breed is sometimes mistakenly overshadowed by larger “Eared Breeds” even though it shares most of the same genome as its' Black counterpart.

A little bit of history might be in order. There are citations indicating interest in the Brahman x Angus cross in 1912, over 100 years ago. The 1935 USDA Yearbook cites work at the USDA Experiment Station in Jeanerette, Louisiana begun in the 1930s.

These were probably Black Brangus but there could have been some Red Brangus types as well. According to Breeds of Cattle by Purdy et. al.

(2008) Malcom Levi of Spicewood purchased the Paleface Ranch in 1936. The Paleface had a few Brahman cows that Mr. Levi bred to Angus, Hereford and Shorthorns.

By the late 1940s he was producing both Red and Black Brangus cattle and sorting out the “Reds”, which were out of

A similar idea but a different approach was followed by Harry Thompson who crossed Red Brahman with Red Angus to achieve the same effect. In 1991, with a desire to move the breed into the mainstream of the cattle business, a group of 10 Red Brangus breeders formed the International Red Brangus Breeders Association and stabilized the percen-tages to 5/8 Red Angus and 3/8 Brahman. The Inter-national Red Brangus Breeders Association has recently become a regional association for the International Brangus Breeders Association.

Since Red Brangus has the genetics of the Black Angus and Red Angus, these breeds add maternal ability, growth, muscling and marbling. The 5/8 -3/8 fixed formula provides the additional benefit of heterozygosity is a little less than half of an F1. This assumes that no inbreeding (mating of closely related relatives) has occurred, which would reduce the full benefit of hybrid vigor for both direct (growth) and reproductive and maternal effects (in the dam).

Red Brangus cattle have not been specifically tested in a lot of university research as have some of the other “Eared Breeds”. Most research, I think, has looked on the Red Brangus as being similar to its black haired namesake.

However I think there are certainly differences that benefit the Red Brangus, particularly in the southern US and in tropical countries, simply because of that difference in color. Red haired cattle can certainly tolerate (and reflect) more solar radiation than black haired cattle - that is a welldocumented fact. Their red color is not only pleasing to many cattlemen, but eliminates pink eye and sunburned udders and allows the cattle to forage under extreme heat conditions while others are seeking shade or tanks. Their disposition makes them ideal for the wide open spaces of the western ranges and safe for the week-end rancher. The natural polling of Red Brangus eliminates the danger of horns and the management chore of dehorning.

The genetics of Red Brangus Cattle are ideal for tropical and sub-tropical regions of the world. Red Brangus Cattle combine the hardiness, disease resistance and unmatched maternal instincts of the Brahman breed with the superior carcass quality, fertility, maternal and milking ability of the

Red Brangus exhibit early puberty, with heifers ready to breed at about 14 months and calve on or before their second birthdays, and bulls are ready for light service as early as 14 months. Both bulls and females retain their productivity well past many other breeds, with females still producing at 14 to 15 years of age and bulls in service at age 10 and older.

Red Brangus are a moderate size with mature females weighing in the range of 1,100 pounds and mature bulls weighing in the 2,000 pound range (although that can change and I caution against it).

Red Brangus are also noted for their light birth weight and easy calving. Red Brangus calves are small at birth, averaging 70 to 75 pounds, but yield high weaning weights.

These calves continue to gain efficiently in the feedlot and yield the lean and tasty Yield Grade 2, Choice carcasses the consumer demands.

Red Brangus cattle (some were sired by Red Brangus but most were straight Red Brangus) were enrolled in the TAMU Ranch to Rail South Program. These cattle were consigned by numerous breeders between 1992 and 2000. A total of 137 Red Brangus and Red Brangus cross steers were fed.

The results on those cattle showed they came in on feed averaging 575 lbs. (weaning weight for most), gained 3.0 lbs per day, and averaged 1216 lbs. when finished. They had one of the lowest average medicine costs, an indicator of less sickness. Their average carcass weight was 735 lbs. and dressing percent of 63%. The average ribeye area was 13.2 sq. in. with .46 in. fat thickness and the average carcass was a USDA YG 2.3. The average carcass graded USDA Select with an average USDA marbling score of Slight 89, which is just below the minimum requirement for low Choice, indicating a large number of the carcasses had graded USDA Choice or higher. Although not analyzed separately, the average Warner Bratzler Shear Force of the 3/8's Eared Breeds was 6.22 lbs., considered very tender.

Red Brangus cattle and breeders are found in diverse environments, from the warm and humid Gulf Coast to the arid Edwards Plateau to the southern edge of the Piney Woods. This is testament of fact to their adaptability and growing demand. Red Brangus cattle are seen across the

Most notably Red Brangus thrive in tropical conditions where extensive cattle production requires a fertile but productive cow adapted to her environment. To sum up, these characteristics put Red Brangus in the category of truly great cattle.

About the Author D r. J o e C . P a s c h a l (pronounced PASS-skull) is the Texas AgriLife Extension Livestock Specialist stationed at the Texas AgriLife Research and Extension Center in Corpus Christi serving 37 counties in Extension districts 11 (Gulf Coast) and 12 (South Texas).

Paschal is a member of the animal breeding and genetics section in the Department of Animal Science and of the graduate faculty at Texas A&M University. He is also an external professor at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. He earned his bachelor's (1977) and master's (1982) degrees in animal science and doctorate in animal breeding (1986) from Texas A&M University.

Paschal assists County Extension Agents in conducting, developing and evaluating educational and applied research activities in livestock in Extension districts 11 and 12 in South Texas. His work and interests include animal breeding and genetics, reproduction, nutrition, management and marketing.

In addition to his regional programming responsibilities, Paschal works closely with the Rio Grande Valley Beef Improvement Association Bull Gain and Heifer Development Program and is responsible for collecting and compiling the data for the American Brahman Breeders Association (ABBA) Carcass Merit Program and the Santa Gertrudis Breeders Association (SGBI) National Steer Feedout Program.

Earlier this year, I was asked to discuss (1) where I think the US beef cattle industry is going and (2) what I think the breeders of Red Brangus cattle should do.

As I said then, I don't know what will be done, but I have some pretty strong feelings about what should be done. For either the entire beef cattle industry or for the Red Brangus breed, I feel strongly that it is important to (1) get away from extremes of all kinds, (2) get over the mentality that bigger is better and that more is better, and (3) remember that the advantages of the beef cattle industry depend on the ability to perform efficiently on forage.

My recommendations to Red Brangus breeders, are the same, regardless of what is done by the rest of the beef cattle industry.

My recommendations to the breed, as a whole, are the same as I would make to any individual breeder.

In order to make recommendations, I would start with the question: What do think the most important product of your breeding program is?

The answers might vary among different breeders, but I would expect some breeders to say that it was commercial bulls. Some might say that it was cattle (and possibly semen and/or embryos) that are sold to other Red Brangus breeders. Some might say that it was show heifers.

These would be logical answers, because they are immediate sources of income from your cattle operation. However, I would say that your most important product is the replacement heifers that you produce to go back into your breeding program.

When I make that statement, someone might say that “it can't be true because bulls contribute more to genetic improvement than do females.” Fairly recently, I read in an email message that “breeding decisions are made with bulls.” The clear implication was that “breeding decisions are made with bulls and not with females.”

Of course, individual bulls make a larger genetic contribution to the next generation than do individual females. However, I am saying that the cow herd is the most important factor affecting genetic improvement (or lack of), for at least two reasons.

These two reasons are (1) the most important traits in the cattle business can only be measured in cows, and (2) bulls can be changed (whether raised, purchased, or used by artificial insemination) fairly easily, but it can take most of a lifetime to develop a really good cowherd (remember the obvious point

My strongest argument that “the most important traits can only be measured in cows” is that any breed, line, or herd that has outstanding cow productivity traits also has totally acceptable carcass merit. On the contrary, some cattle that are touted as being “great carcass cattle” have totally unacceptable cow productivity.

So far, I have only written about what I consider to be the most important product of a herd and asserted that “the most important traits in the cattle business can only be measured in cows. How do we go from there to “What do I think Red Brangus breeders should do?”

What I think Red Brangus breeders should do: (1) If “the most important traits in the cattle business can only be measured in cows,” we need to know what these traits are, properly “measure” them, and make full use of the “information”

What should we “measure” in a cow?

The most important trait in the cow business is for a cow to have an acceptable calf every year from a young age up to an advanced age, and to do it on forage.

For many places in the United States, the ideal cow should calve first at two* years of age and raise an acceptable calf every year until she is ten or more years of age; in really tough environments they should calve first at three years of age.

If a breeder only keeps a cow as long as she raises an acceptable calf every year and only keeps bulls out of cows that have raised an acceptable calf every year cow productivity can be improved (this may sound like the program you have heard of from a particular breeder of another breed).

This program will produce more bulls that meet the criteria than can typically be used in a herd. Even more progress can be made if bulls are only kept out of cows that have raised an acceptable calf every year up to an advanced age. Of course, a bull calf out of this same old cow, that was kept when the cow was young, would also have had special value to you if you had known then what you know now.

Someone might say that selecting bulls out of old cows would lengthen the generation interval and decrease the amount of improvement per year. However, shortening the generation interval will only increase the amount of annual improvement if it doesn't decrease the effectiveness of selection more than the generation interval is decreased.

The program I just described will work, but, of course, not everyone will follow it. At least, I hope that I have made my point that the most important trait in any cow herd is cow productivity and that all breeding decisions should be based on that concept.

Even if you follow that program to the letter, you will do a better job of breeding cattle if you study everything about the cattle, including what they look like.

About the Author Dr. Jim Sanders is a professor and section leader in the animal breeding and genetics section in the Department of Animal Science. He received his B.S., M.S. and doctoral degrees from Texas A&M University.

Dr. Sanders teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in animal breeding and conducts research in beef cattle genetics and breeding. His research has included systems analysis of beef cattle production, comparisons of cattle breeds for birth, growth, carcass and cow productivity traits and the evaluation of genetic change within cattle breeds. Currently, he is involved in research to evaluate hybrid vigor retention in Bos indicus/Bos taurus cattle. Since 1990 he has been involved in the research effort to identify genes with major effects on birth, growth and carcass traits in beef cattle; this research is being continued with emphasis on identifying genes with major effects on disposition and cow productivity.

Dr. Sanders has traveled and made presentations, observed livestock production and/or judged cattle shows in South Africa, Botswana, Kenya, Panama, Brazil, Argentina, Costa Rica, St. Croix, Mexico, Belize, Colombia, Zimbabwe and Ecuador. He has coached a national champion 4-H Livestock Judging Team and a national champion Intercollegiate Livestock Judging Team. He has judged numerous livestock shows in Texas and eight other states and seven foreign countries.

This Most all cattlemen and cattlewomen would agree that “looking at cattle” is probably the best part of raising them.

No discussion of “looking at cattle” would be complete without at least mentioning Professor Jan C. Bonsma.

Professor Bonsma was a great observer of cattle and had a big influence on how we evaluate cattle today. He did graduate studies at Iowa State College in the 1930s and was a professor at the University of Pretoria for many years. He made many trips to the U.S., and , very importantly, spent the 1964-65 school year at Texas A&M University.

That was my freshman year at A&M. As a freshman, I didn't get to hear him talk or see any of his demonstrations, but his influence certainly affected the education I received. In the summer of 1968, while I was working for Michaelis Ranch, I had the pleasure of driving around the pastures, looking at and discussing cattle oneon-one with Professor Bonsma.

Until fairly recently I would have assumed that anyone reading an article about cattle breeding would have known who Professor Bonsma was and about the contributions he made to the visual appraisal of cattle.

However, I have recently realized that, with the passage of time, even people who have benefitted indirectly from what he said and wrote, do not know anything about him (including who he was).

Fads in the show ring come and go, but the principles discussed and demonstrated by Professor Bonsma are just as true and appropriate today as they were fifty years ago. As I discuss the principles of cattle evaluation as presented by Professor Bonsma, I will use multiple quotes from him. As I quote him, I will follow the quote with his initials (J.C.B.).

The following quotes give an overview of Bonsma's philosophy.

“It is only through complete adaptability and selecting for functional efficiency, that is, regular reproduction and efficient food utilization, that a success can be made of livestock production.” (J.C.B.) “By 'breeding for functional efficiency'is meant to produce as much good red meat per unit area as possible.” (J.C.B.)

The testicles must be well developed and the scrotum must not be small and puckered against the body.” (J.C.B.) “It must be remembered that both in the male and the female the sub-fertile animal has tremendous growth potential; hence, performance testing must go hand-inhand with visual appraisal based upon applied physiology and endocrinology.” (J.C.B.)

“Every heifer that sheds its hair the first spring after birth and becomes sleek coated will be a good one.” (J.C.B.) This is especially important in Red Brangus cattle, where one of their most important attributes is their adaptation to hot climates.

“The secretion of estrogen in the female and testosterone in the male causes the bone to ossify, and the overall growth of the animal is stopped because the bone growth has discontinued. If ossification is delayed, the animal continues to grow and becomes taller and taller, hence the objection to the very tall animal.

An animal should be large lying down, but should not be large and long legged and indicative of an animal with an imbalanced hormone control. ” J.C.B.

Repeating again, functional efficiency can be demonstrated by a long life of regular reproduction and efficient feed utilization.

I want to emphasize again the importance of maintaining a slick hair coat and other characteristics of heat tolerance.

Please don't forget that the Red Brangus has a Bos indicus component for a reason. They should be different from straight Bos taurus cattle. This includes a hump of the appropriate size for an animal that is 3/8 to ½ Bos indicus. Straight Angus and other Bos taurus bulls have crests (some of the crests are pretty large). Brangus bulls should have an appropriately sized hump.

HEAT TOLERANCE High temperatures are a limiting factor in animal production, mainly because they cause a significant reduction in fertility, maternal ability, amount of feed ingested and in the digestibility coefficient. The normal internal temperature of the European cattle breeds goes up considerably when animals are subjected to high environmental temperatures, and thus, they are forced to use energy to control this temperature instead of using it for production.

In spite of weather inclemency, the Red Brangus continues to produce normally because of its high tolerance of extreme temperatures; the Red Brangus adaptability is due to its genetic composition, to the hybrid vigor generated by crossing Bos taurus and Bos indicus; and to factors relating to its hair color, skin properties and its internal metabolism.

TOLERANCIA AL CALOR Las altas temperaturas son una limitante para la producción animal, principalmente por provocar una disminución significativa en la fertilidad, habilidad materna, volumen de ingesta y el coeficiente de digestibilidad. population is found in the tropics and subtropics; regions where heat tolerance is mandatory. The color red facilitates heat tolerance better than the color black, so this is a definite advantage. In countries such as Australia and South Africa, more than 80% of cattle have red hair. In South American countries, like Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Bolivia and Paraguay, which together have 270 million heads of cattle, the adaptation and productivity of the Red Brangus is causing the breed to become very popular.

SKIN PIGMENTATION In hot and humid areas, animals should preferably have light-colored hair so as to reflect the sun's rays, together with a pigmented skin that resists the fierce solar radiation, such as the Red Brangus.

Skin pigmentation is a very important attribute; both in hot climates (because the sun has a direct effect) and in very cold climates (because the sun reflects off the snow), since animals with light skin are susceptible to lesions, particularly around the eyes (cancer and keratitis), on the udder and on its legs. As the Red Brangus has a bronze pigmented skin and radiates more energy, it can take advantage of feeds more efficiently. This last item allows the commercial producer to concentrate on the economically important factors of an adapted breed that is genetically capable of efficiently producing under extreme climate conditions.

LOOSE SKIN, ABUNDANT SWEAT AND AN EFFICIENT METABOLISM The loose skin that characterizes the Red Brangus contributes a lot to its ability to tolerate high temperatures, increasing the body mass that is exposed to the external cooling effects.

Besides, the abundant number of sweat glands and the capability of freely sweating frequently through the skin's pores, contribute materially to the heat tolerance. Another factor that contributes to heat tolerance in the Red Brangus is the lower internal body temperature in comparison to European breeds in extreme heat situations. High body temperatures in cattle not adapted to heat causes lower milk production and growth and interferes with the normal development of the reproductive cycle.

RESISTANCE TO ECTOPARASITES Red Brangus' reputation of being highly resistant to external parasites (ectoparasites) comes from the Brahman and the Zebu cattle in general. These breeds develop a skin secretion (sweat with certain repellant properties) which reduces the intensity of insect attacks; they sweat more easily and intensively than European cattle. In addition, their skin muscles are highly developed, allowing animals to “shiver” their skin easily, dislodging the insects and defending themselves from the insects' actions. Add to this, the short, thick hair and the pigmented layer of the Red Brangus which are less attractive to insects and prevent the insects'

PIGMENTACIÓN DE LA PIEL En zonas cálidas y húmedas los animales deben ser preferentemente de pelo claro para reflejar los rayos solares, junto a una piel pigmentada que resista la fuerte irradiación solar, como en el Brangus Rojo.

La pigmentación de la piel es un atributo muy importante, tanto en climas cálidos (porque el sol afecta directamente) como en los muy fríos (pues el sol refleja sobre la nieve), ya que los animales de piel clara son susceptibles de sufrir lesiones, principalmente alrededor de los ojos (cáncer y queratitis), en las ubres y extremidades. El Brangus Rojo, al tener su piel pigmentada de color bronceado y al disipar o irradiar más energía, puede aprovechar los alimentos más eficientemente. Esto último le permite al criador comercial concentrarse en los factores de real importancia económica, sobre una raza adaptada y genéticamente capaz de producir eficientemente en condiciones extremas PIEL SUELTA, SUDOR ABUNDANTE Y METABOLISMO EFICIENTE La piel suelta que caracteriza al ganado Brangus Rojo contribuye en gran medida a la aptitud de tolerar las altas temperaturas, incrementando el área corporal expuesta a los efectos refrigerantes externos. RUGGEDNESS The Red Brangus breed is known for having a natural ability to adapt itself quickly to a broad spectrum of climates and nutritional conditions, so it is no surprise when the breed effectively produces in the four corners of the world. And to this, we can add its ruggedness, that is, its capability to be practically immune to many diseases, to ecto and endoparasites (digestive, pulmonary and systemic, such as anaplasmosis which dilutes the blood and causes death), to high temperatures and high humidity.

The feed we provide them, both on the range and in the fields, as well as in the feedlots, ultimately translates into high profits for the whole cattle production chain, because we are working with strong and healthy animals. The Red Brangus also demonstrates that it inherited from the Brahman, the habit of feeding with greater frequency and in moderate amounts, thus having high resistance to bloat, an important cause of death in other breeds when grasses contain a high percentage of legumes. When looking for water or improved feed, Red Brangus has the aptitude to walk long distances and cover huge areas without tiring, thanks to their strong bone structure, musculature and good pace.

FERTILITY The ability cattle have to reproduce regularly is a sign of their good environmental adaptation. In that sense, the Red Brangus' ability to adapt to different climates and nutritional conditions makes this breed really valuable in providing the best beef for the market. Pregnancy rates improve and postpartum intervals get significantly shorter by incorporating these genetics, both in registered and commercial herds. Early puberty is another of the breed's advantages. Red Brangus bulls are fertile and with early onset of puberty, which means that in difficult areas they can start reproducing, moderately, prior to 18 months of age. Heifers can conceive between 12 to 14 months of age, calving their first calf prior to 2 years of age and continuing regularly thereafter through many breeding cycles.

LONGEVITY Historically, is has been proved that Red Angus cattle has a useful life that is at least two or three years longer than European breeds (British and Continental). The F1 dams with Bos indicus and Bos taurus genes, such as the Red Brangus dams, reach higher adult weights and produce heavier calves between 9 and 12 years old, producing regularly until 14 years of age. European breeds wean their heaviest calves between 6 and 8 years old, and generally produce until they are 10 years old. Much research indicates that the dams capable of remaining productive 40% more time (4 years), produce 50% more calves in their productive lives.

NATURALLY POLLED Red Brangus is a naturally polled breed. It is being demonstrated worldwide that polled cattle is more profitable than horned cattle, because it is easier to handle at all production levels. In addition, there are no lesions and bruises on skin and meat, which adds marketing value and is not discounted by the buyers.

DOCILITY Temperament is an important factor in the cattle industry. The more docile dams are, the more fertile they are; they are better breeders and they live longer. It has been well proved that bad-tempered

FERTILIDAD La aptitud del ganado en reproducirse regularmente es indicio de una buena adaptación ambiental. En tal sentido, la capacidad de adaptación del Brangus Rojo a los diferentes climas y condiciones nutricionales hacen de esta raza un verdadero baluarte para obtener la mejor carne del mercado. The International Red Brangus Breeders Association Memorial Scholarship Foundation was established as a tribute to pioneering Red Brangus breeders to further the education of young Brangus cattlemen and cattlewomen. The initial funding for the scholarship program was donated in honor of two beloved members of the IRBBA: Mr. Jim Hunt and Ms. Wilma Buffaloe. In addition, tributes have been established for Mr. Don Jobes and Marcos Borges III. The families and friends of these great individuals take great pride in honoring their loved ones through the recognition and support of our future leaders and breeders.

The Foundation has become one of the most significant programs of the IRBBA and grown to be something that all Red Brangus breeders are proud of. IRBBA members know that our future lies in the youth of our breed. Our breeders continue to support the youth with their generous donations and gifts. To date the committee has awarded 32 scholarships totaling $51,350. This is such a monumental number considering the size of our association. The recipients have included both graduating high school seniors and current college undergraduate students.

This year the Foundation will be expanding our reach with a new Junior Award in honor of Marcos Borges III.

In addition to those having an interest in Red Brangus, these recipients will include those young people that have excelled in academics and athletics, just as Marcos did. The Senior and Junior applications are due April 1st each year can be found on the IRBBA Website under the Memorial Scholarship Foundation section.

To further the goals and sustainability of the Memorial Scholarship the IRBBA has established “Foundation for the Future”. This campaign created a sustainable foundation upon which the program has and continues to grow. These scholarships would not be possible without the generous support of our Red Brangus Breeders. They continually answer the call for funding to help our youth extend their educations and further their futures. In addition to many private donations to the fund, each year the IRBBA Memorial Scholarship committee develops ways to raise funds; from the Donation Heifer to silent auctions, live auctions of unique works of art and semen auctions. The Foundation Scholarship Award dinner has become a highlight of the IRBBA Annual Meeting. The Scholarship Committee works diligently to host a special evening that recognizes the scholarship winners and our generous donors.
