Dear fellow cattle producers,

We are very excited to welcome you to our 8th Annual Bull and Female Sale. It has been awesome to witness breed improvement and acceptance of Hereford cattle in the last 15 years. I know for a fact that Hereford genetics are doing much to help the commercial cattle producer and the demand for F1 replacement stock and feeder calves is very strong. Just as we have for over 40 years we strive to produce cattle that will work in all environments. We are very happy to have seen our registered as well as commercial customers achieving success with FTF Genetics. This year we will be offering the top cut of our Hereford yearling bulls as well as several 18 -24 month Hereford and Angus bulls that will be ready for heavy service. All bulls are hand fed for optimum gain not maximum gain. We have realized over time many benefits, including better feet and less fat thickness which improves bulls ability to cover cows without heating up in the spring. On good spring grass young bulls have the ability to grow frame and lose very little weight during their first breeding season. It is very interesting how managing this herd is like managing one big science project. We go through the motions of weighing, DNA testing, ultrasounding, udder scoring, and calving ease scoring to help find the outliers. There are lots of quality cattle with good phenotype and structure but when the data has all been analyzed something always rises to the top. It is astounding how the best cow families in this herd rise to the top on a consistent basis. Cows such as Lot 41-43 are absolutely amazing producers and I am confident they will be on top of any herd, anywhere in the country. The females we have put together we feel are the best set we have ever offered. You will notice we are retaining ½ semen interest in several of the bulls as well as ½ embryo interest in some of the females. We in no way intend for this to be an inconvenience to the buyer and only will collect bulls and flush females if that is also the desire of buyer and they want to do so for their benefit as well. We feel that we have dug deep into the heart of our genetics to produce a high quality sale offering and we see these retained interests as a way of maintaining those high quality genetics. Remember when you purchase a bull on our sale, the price you pay includes feed and yardage until April 16th. Basically you are buying a bull that is ready for spring service and spring grass. Trucking within 100 miles is included in the sale price of the bulls only and NOT the female lots. Longer destination trucking can be arranged as well. RETAINING SEMEN & EMBYRO INTEREST We are retaining ½ semen interest in several of the bulls as well as ½ embyro interest in some of the females. Collection or ﬂushes are not required, but can occur if we both choose to do so with expenses and revenue split 50/50.

Crooked Creek Beef, Paciﬁc, MO Bill & Linda McLaren Forty years ago a genetics professor told my class that the only free lunch in the beef industry is hybrid vigor. In his opinion, the best example was a true F1 black baldy. His statements are more relevant today than ever. We currently have three FTF bulls at Crooked Creek, and they are great baldy makers. When we select bulls, we choose by EPDs and purchase by phenotype. FTF bulls possess both. We are like most Missouri producers. We run our cows in groups of 40 head on fescue in 20 to 40 acre pastures. FTF bulls have always performed in this environment. Two years ago my son-in-law needed a clean up bull on their Western Kansas ranch. I pulled a FTF bull from a humid fescue farm and sent him to a dry native prairie to cover 75 cows on 720 acres. He did excellent in that environment also. These bulls are athletic, and aggressive breeders, but are easy to handle and sire calves that will perform in multiple environments. -Bill McLaren
