It’s no secret there has never been a better time than the present to be in the cattle business. At least that’s what a lady trying to solicit some ads from Iowa told me the other day. In her words “if you own cows you’re filthy rich”. That may be a bit of an overstatement, but it definitely helps and yes, it’s about time…you deserve it. If it’s like around here, the work is not with the row crop, it’s with the cattle. We feel very fortunate to be in a business that gives us the opportunity to work with some of the best people in the world “cattle people”. We know you have a lot of choices on where you can purchase your seed stock from, but rest assured your confidence in our programs won’t be taken lightly. There’s a reason our two operations have been in the seed stock business for a combined 80 years. It’s my dad’s motto “treat people how you would want to be treated and they’ll be back”.

Once again, we feel what really sets this sale apart from many of the others is the variety and selection that is available here. Last year we had the bulls videoed ahead of the sale and had them available on our website, www.eichackersimmentals.com. The feedback we got from you, the customer, was overwhelming in favor of it. It was another great tool to help in the selection process; you were able to scroll down through the videos in the comfort of your home with your slippers on. So once again we will have videos available on our website hopefully 10 days to 2 weeks prior to the sale. We will also have DVAuction on hand sale day. We always hope everyone can be with us personally on sale day, but realize it doesn’t always work out. That’s where DVAuction fits in, they will play the pre-recorded video of each lot as they sell and you can bid as if you were there yourself. Justin Dikoff does an excellent job. If you have any questions, check the DVAuction ad or contact Justin or myself. We are going to run the bulls through the ring again, but like last year, we will have a few tv’s set around the barn to run the pre-recorded video feed on them. We certainly welcome any feedback on what you, the customer, want. It

seems these full video auctions are becoming more and more popular, there again; we want to do what you want. A huge thanks goes to Glen Kummer and his crew. Glen is a cooperator herd for us and does a fantastic job raising the majority of the ET calves. They definitely pay attention to the details and are always planning ahead; he’s like having two wives! We are always looking for ways to improve, so if you ever have anything you want to bounce off us or see us do different, we are open to suggestions. Not saying Jeff will listen, but you can suggest! dence over printed material in sale catalog. Anyone attending this sale attends at their own risk. Eichacker Simmentals or JK Angus or any of the sale force will not be held responsible for any personal injury while attending this sale.

EPDs: The EPDs listed in the catalog are spring 2015 numbers. Feeding Arrangements & Delivery: We will offer to

feed the bulls at no charge until April 15, 2015. At that time they will be semen tested and delivered free of charge up to 300 miles. We will assist in making the most economical arrangements possible beyond that. We are not responsible for any injury or death to the bulls while in our care.

All bulls have been tested negative for BVD/PI. All cows are Johnes free. All genetic defect testing has been completed.

The score is nothing scientific – it is just our opinions of what you could expect taking into consideration, BW, EPD’s, pedigree and structure of the bull. Do not compare the scores between breeds, for instance, don’t expect the same calving ease out of a Simmental with 3 stars as a Red Angus with 3 stars, each breed needs to be considered on their own. JK Angus bulls are marked in their footnotes as heifer bulls if we thought they would work on such.

Semen Interest:

Eichacker Simmentals will retain 1/4 semen interest in all bulls sold and JK Angus will be retaining 1/3 semen interest in all bulls sold. Keep in mind, generally this means absolutely nothing, it only comes into play if semen is collected and sold.

Adjusted Scrotal: Actual scrotal measurements were taken

1-29-2015 then adjusted to a year of age using each breeds own formula for adjusted scrotal measurements. Scrotal measurements for the JK Angus bulls are actual, not adjusted.

Weight Per Day of Age (WDA): WDA is the weight of a bull on 1-29-2015 divided by the days of age.

126 Day Weight:

The 126 day gain was the average daily gain from the weaning weight until 1-29-2015.

Homozygous & Heterozygous: A homozygous black bull when mated to any black cows will give you a black calf. A heterozygous black bull carries a red gene, but when mated to black cows will give you a black calf unless your black cow carries a red gene, then you have a slight chance of getting a red calf, but neither will sire gray calves on black cows. DEFINITION OF TERMS Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs): EPDs are the most accurate and effective tool available for comparing genetic levels. Back Fat (BF): Inches of Backfat. Birth Weight (BW): Pounds of birth weight. Calving Ease (CE): Percent of unassisted births when used on heifers. Maternal Calving Ease (MCE): Percent of unassisted births in first-calving daughters. Milk (MLK): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk. Marbling (MRB): Marbling score. Maternal Weaning Weight (MWW): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk and growth.

Ribeye Area (REA): Square inches of ribeye. Warner-Bratzler Shear Force (WBSF): Pounds of force required to shear a steak. Stayability (STAY): Percent of daughters remaining in the cowherd at 6 years of age. Terminal Index (TI): Dollars per cow exposed under a terminal-sire scenario. Weaning Weight (WW): Pounds of weaning weight. Yearling Weight (YW): Pounds of yearling weight. Yield Grade (YG): Yield grade score.

EXPLANATION OF HOW TO UTILIZE API AND TI INDEXES First, determine which index to use; if you're keeping replacements use API, if not, TI. Then, just as with EPD's, zero in on the unit difference between bulls. (As described, index units are in dollars per cow exposed.) The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Or, put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all-purposetype sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a $50 bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. X 4 yr. = $6,000). A percentile - ranking chart is required to determine where a bull's index value ranks him relative to other bulls in the breed. For more information, visit www.simmental.org.

But he does offer the same genetic makeup and an awesome, well balanced set of EPD's.

When this guy hit the ground last spring the decision was instantly made to move his mother to the donor pen. We scored her a 10 on udder quality and we only give that score to 3 or 4 cows, she just represents exactly what we want our cow herd to look like. Her ratios on four calves of 102 for BW and 109 for WW, you'll be hearing a lot more on this cow down the road as she made 65 embryos in her 1st two flushes, that's fertility. He isn't going to blow the data sheets apart in any one category, but is a very nice made, all around complete bull.

I didn't realize how unique this individual was until I started putting the data together. He only had a 65 lb BW to ratio 124, while his dam ratioed 111 for BW, and has a BW ratio of 120 on two calves, while maintaining a WW ratio of 106. Barn Clean-up after Bull Sale

It's no accident the T51 cow has been in the donor pen several times, she just keeps getting better with age. She has an awesome EPD profile and an udder you would like to see on every cow you own. On her five natural calves she has raised, she has ratios of 102 for BW, 111 for WW and 106 for YW. That's what we like to see. The first bull, BT511 is sired by ES Surelock, our high selling Lock-N-Load son purchased by Windy Creek in 2013, he's the meat and potatoes bull of the bunch, having the 2nd highest WDA of the Simmental bulls. Then there's the blaze faced bull BT51-2, he's the attractive one that we feel will surely create quite a little interest by sale day, he also has been a top end gaining bull at over 4 lbs/day. Then there's the two solid black bulls that are a little more modest in their size. Note the EPD profile, acceptable BW, high growth and maternal, where the dam and granddam have been exceptional, a very coomplete package here. Barn...Sale Day!

The U56 cattle have been around for quite a few years, we have used several different matings, the common denominator is they will exhibit a lot of performance. Whether it's bulls or females, the U56 progeny will find their way to the top. She is a moderate framed, extemely thick individual with an awesome udder. Her own natural calves have a WW ratio of 113 and YW of 109. She has four sons to offer, two Lock-N-Loads and two W/C United's. The first Lock-N-Load, BU56-1, is a big powerful blaze face bull who won't be hard to find sale day. The second, BU56-3, is a solid black Lock-N-Load and has a little more refined look than his full brother. The next two are solid black W/C United sons, the first, BU56-5, is the second highest gaining bull since weaning. Many of the U56 daughters are coming into production both last year and this year and they look to be awesome. The U56 bloodline will live on for many years through the daughters.

Who unleashed the beast here!! From a physical and performance standpoint, this guy is a stud. Huge top, massive rib shape, and an explosive rear end. He is impressive from every angle. Lots 81-87: What a way to end the Simmi Division and kick off the Red Angus Bulls, than with two flushes out of the T202 cow. Three years ago I made the comment in a footnote that you will be hearing more about the T202 cow in the future, that statement holds true more now than ever before. The true test to a cow is that whatever she is bred to, it flat out works. Her four natural calves birth weights have always been acceptable then went on to have a WW ratio of 114. Two years ago we brought you four full brothers out of the Simmental Bull, Beef King, that were peas in a pod and averaged over $5,800, then last year we had four Red Angus sired bulls out of three different sires and drew even more attention averaging over $7,000. Well this year we brought you the best of both worlds, we have seven bulls to offer. There are two outstanding Simmi/Red Angus bulls sire by CDI Authority and five Red Angus bulls sired by Messmer Packer. I'm not going to get into the individual data on each bull, it's all listed under each respective lot. But rest assured, the bull you set your sights on, the homework is done here. One of the calving highlights this spring for us is going to be some of the T202 daughters that are coming into production, they look fantastic. And yes, there will be more T202 progeny in the future as we held her open and flushed her several times this winter. We're going to leave it like Zac's Friday soap opera, you'll have to tune back in to see what we used for sires, we think it will be exciting.
