“Make it a weekend in the Land of Lincoln” Dear Hereford Friends, The 9th Annual Steak and Eggs Sale is almost here and we are excited to present this offering! Much like our nation’s political climate this year, our summer has been hot and humid. Our crops and pastures are thriving which makes for happy cattle. Our only complaint is the speed at which this year has gone! I just realized it has been almost a year already since Stan Grobosky joined us as herdsman. Not only were we fortunate to get him but were lucky to get his wife, Shelia and daughter Lily, as part of the package.

Our county fair just wrapped up which marks the end of another summer and I drove home reflecting on how lucky we are to be involved in this industry. I watched the kids hang out with 4-H members of all ages from all over the county and they may not realize it yet but these connections will more than likely last a lifetime. The retiring seniors gave a little speech before they auctioned their animal and one girl said “My mom asked me what my favorite part of summer is and I said the 4-H fair!” Another said, while choking back tears, that “Even though this is my last time in this ring, I will always be here no matter what”. That speaks volumes! Considering the fact that our fair is nothing fancy - just livestock and one food stand, I was amazed at how intuitive these kids are. It’s not about fancy rides and expensive games, it’s about the friends they’ve made and the love, responsibility, and respect they have for their animals and how much the show ring has helped shape their lives and values. There aren’t many activities like this where the entire family can work together while at the same time creating strong social bonds, even with those you are competing against. This all made me think about how fortunate we are to get to attend the Junior National Hereford Expo every summer. What a spectacular show the state of Wisconsin put on this year! They went all out! The video from the drone of the hundreds and hundreds of cattle in tie outs was breathtaking and signifies the depth to which our Hereford industry has grown and continues to grow. Thank you to all of our customers who worked so hard to get there and to all of you hardworking volunteers and sponsors that dedicate your time and resources to our Hereford youth! Great breed better people!

Like the impressive presentation of cattle at the JNHE 2016, DeLHawk strives to deliver the best genetics we can and I believe our offering on September 17, 2016 will be impressive. This set of heifer calves does not have a weak spot. They stand solid and are literally 30 head deep! Our frontline donors represent the sale with extensive quality. The calves are out of 206, Whisper, Yasmine 104Y, Burgundy, Millie and other select females.

Top sires consist of Truth, Mason, 3053, About Time, JCS Cool Kat, 88X and other cutting edge bulls. This offering also includes some great bred heifers, many of which are 206 daughters, that are bred to high end low birth weight bulls. We have also used H L1 Domino 3053 heavily and are excited about his calves. He recently sired the JNHE 2016 Polled Division 3 Champion Heifer for Molly Long, OK. Registration papers are all in order. Buyers should give clerks correct information (name and address) for transfer of sale animals. No animals will be transferred until payment is made. Please bring breeder number if it applies.

Each animal sold will be at the buyer’s risk as soon as sold. DeLHawk Cattle will care for animals as best as possible after sale until pickup.

All cattle will sell under the terms and guarantees recommended by the American Hereford Association. However, if we feel that a heifer has been fed to an extreme level of obesity, we hold the feeder responsible for any reproductive problems and no longer feel it necessary to guarantee that animal. In the rare case this occurs, we will assist and help you in getting the heifer bred. Please listen carefully to special guarantees from the auction box during the sale. We understand that when something goes wrong that both the buyer and the seller have losses. We will make every attempt within reason to stand behind our cattle.
