Intervista a Giuseppe Vitobello, CEO di Over Teak – Uniwork

Dal 1958 la OverTeak di Barletta opera con successo nel mercato, soprattutto estero, della calzatura da lavoro e sicurezza con il marchio Uniwork. Abbiamo chiesto ad uno dei titolari, di raccontarci cosa ha comportato l’avvento della pandemia e quali strategie l’azienda ha messo a punto per affrontarla.

uali ripercussioni ha avuto l’avvento della pandemia sul votstro business?

Il blocco totale delle attività ha impattato negativamente sulla produzione , che è stata immediatamente sospesa, ma siamo andati avanti con le spedizioni degli ordini che già avevamo in casa relativi ai settori sanitario, della raccolta dei rifiuti, oltre a quelle attività che non rientravano nel blocco imposto dai vari lockdown e questo ci ha permesso di ridurre gli effetti negativi del blocco sul business complessivo. Non appena il lockdown è venuto meno, siamo ripartititi con la totalità della forza lavoro.

Come avere reagito al nuovo stato di cose?

Quali strategie avete adottato per far fronte alla nuova situazione?

Abbiamo pensato prima di tutto ai nostri lavoratori e abbiamo fatto tutto il possibile per garantire un ambiente di lavoro sicuro sotto tutti gli aspetti, sanificando periodicamente gli spazi e dotando la forza lavoro di ulteriori dispositivi di protezione personale. A livello si strategie, abbiamo potuto contare su un magazzino pronta consegna di merce, che ci ha permesso di consegnare le calzature ordinate in tempi brevissimi, perlopiù nell’arco di un giorno, e così soddisfare le richieste della nostra clientela che è per il 90 per cento estera (soprattutto Francia, Germania, Spagna, Portogallo e in generale tutta l’Europa).

A suo parere, l’avvento della pandemia ha cambiato le esigenze del consumatore e delle aziende nell’acquisto di calzature di sicurezza? Ad esempio, la maggiore attenzione all’igiene e alla salute ha influito o influirà su ciò che il consumatore ricerca anche nell’ambito delle scarpe di sicurezza?

Non credo che l’avvento della pandemia abbia modificato le esigenze della clientela professionale, anche perché le calzature da lavoro e sicurezza già rispondevano ai requisiti normativi in termini di protezione, igiene, salute ecc.

Quali caratteristiche sono oggi ritenute più importanti in una scarpa di sicurezza?

Senza dubbio le caratteristiche ritenute oggi più importanti nella scelta di una scarpa di sicurezza sono il confort, la leggerezza e il design. In questo senso, la pandemia ha solo confermato la validità delle tendenze già in atto nel mercato del safety.

Tra i nuovi prodotti su cui state puntando vi è la Linea Urban e la suola Urban PU 2D. Quali sono le sue caratteristiche?

La linea Urban, come si evince dal suo stesso nome, è stata studiata per avvicinarsi quanto più possibile alle caratteristiche estetiche e di confort di una calzatura lifestyle, naturalmente nel rispetto della garanzia di tutte le normative di sicurezza necessarie ad una calzatura da lavoro. Questo significa che la linea e i colori richiamano quelli di una sneaker, mentre la suola in poliuretano presenta un design che la rende più leggera e confortevole rispetto alle tradizionali calzature di scurezza e professionali. È quindi indicata per tutti i lavoratori, a 360 gradi, che la possono indossare sul lavoro, ma anche in una molteplicità di occasioni non lavorative, per molte ore al giorno.

Siamo molto soddisfatti e orgogliosi di aver ottenuto a ottobre 2020 questa importante certificazione. Credo che sia più che mai una garanzia del nostro modo di operare e del rispetto che abbiamo verso i nostri lavoratori e tutti i collaboratori e i clienti con cui veniamo in contatto. Siano un’azienda che ha sempre puntato sulla qualità, ma anche sul rispetto della persona e dell’ambiente in cui vive, e ne siamo fieri.

Since 1958, Over Teak from Barletta has been working with success, especially abroad, in the market of occupational and safety shoes with the brand Uniwork. We asked one of the owners to tell us how the pandemic affected the company and which strategies it used in facing it.

What repercussions did the pandemic have on your business?

The complete shutdown of all activities negatively impacted production, which was immediately suspended, but we continued to ship out orders that were already in stock to medical-related industries, while continuing to recycle waste and undertake other activities that were still permitted during the lockdown. This allowed us to alleviate some of the negative effects of the overall halt in business. Just as soon as the lockdown was over, we restarted with our complete workforce.

How have you reacted to the new state of things? What strategies have you adopted in facing the new situation?

Our very first thought went to all our workers and we did what was possible to guarantee a completely safe working environment, periodically sanitizing the spaces and equipping our workforce with additional personal protective equipment. In terms of strategy, we were able to count on a warehouse of goods available for immediately delivery, which allowed us to quickly deliver footwear orders, often within the course of the day, thus satisfying the demands of our clientele that is 90% foreign in origin (above all from France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, and in general all of Europe).

In your opinion, did the pandemic change the needs of consumers and companies in their safety footwear purchasing requirements?

For example, with the focus now more oriented towards hygiene and health, did it influence or will it influence what the consumer looks for also in the field of safety shoes?

I do not believe that the pandemic changed the needs of professional clientele, also because occupational and safety footwear already replied to safety standard requirements in terms of protection, hygiene, health, etc.

Today, what features are considered most important in a safety shoe?

Without a doubt, the features considered most important in the choice of a safety shoe are comfort, lightness, and design. In this sense, the pandemic only confirmed the validity of on-going trends in the safety market.

Among the new products on which you are focusing, there is also the Urban Line and the Urban PU 2D sole. What are its main features?

The Urban line, as already inferred by the name, was designed to get as close as possible to the aesthetic features and comfort of a lifestyle shoe, while naturally respecting all of the safety standards required in a pair of occupational shoes.

This means the line and colours recall those of a sneaker, while the polyurethane sole presents a design that makes it lighter and more comfortable than traditional safety and professional footwear. It is accordingly a 360-degree product recommended for all workers, who can wear it at work, but also for various non work-related occasions, for many hours a day.

In February 2020, Over Teak decided to update its production organisational structure so that it complies with SA8000:2014 social certification standard requirements, which calls for the prevention of all forms of discrimination while protecting the health and safety of workers. What was behind this decision?

We are very satisfied and proud to have obtained this important certification in October 2020. I believe it is more of a guarantee than ever before of our way of operating, while emphasising our respect for our workers and all our collaborators and customers with whom we meet. We are a company that has always focused on quality, while also respecting people and their environments, and we are proud of this.

SCARPE AD ALTO GRIP ISPIRATE ALL’ARTE DEL KIRIGAMI

GRIP-FAST SHOES INSPIRED BY THE ART OF KIRIGAMI I ricercatori del Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Mit) hanno messo a punto un nuovo materiale per suole, ispirato all’arte della carta giapponese, dalle elevate proprietà antiscivolo.

Researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Mit) have developed a new material for soles, inspired by the Japanese art of paper folding and cutting, with a high degree of slip resistance.

Come spesso avviene è il passato a suggerirci la direzione da intraprendere per innovare nel futuro, ed è successo anche questa volta per un’importante scoperta relativa al mondo dei materiali, e in particolare ai materiali per suole. Si tratta di un progetto presentato sulla rivista Nature Biomedical Engineering che porta la firma del Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Mit) e che ha portato allo sviluppo di un nuovo materiale di rivestimento per suole ispirato alla struttura del Kirigami, la tradizionale arte giapponese della lavorazione della carta con pieghe e forbici. I ricercatori del MIT, infatti, hanno appurato che questa antichissima tecnica è in grado di modulare l’attrito per una vasta gamma di superfici, incluso il ghiaccio. Da qui l’idea di applicarla per lo sviluppo di un rivestimento per calzature ad alto grip: il rivestimento è caratterizzato da intrecci di punte dalla forma concava inserite in uno strato di plastica o acciaio, che aumentano l’attrito con le superfici, ma soprattutto lo fanno in modo dinamico. La particolarità di questa tecnica consiste, infatti, nel passaggio di forma da una superficie piana in due dimensioni, ad una geometria tridimensionale: il rivestimento rimane piano e liscio quando si sta fermi, mentre le punte fuoriescono durante la camminata.

“Questi elementi possono controllare l’attrito, perché le punte affilate possono entrare e uscire in base all’allungamento che si applica al materiale – afferma Giovanni Traverso, ricercatore del Mit e tra gli autori dello studio -. Prevediamo che i rivestimenti in kirigami applicati alle suole delle calzature possano aiutare a mitigare il rischio di scivolamenti e cadute in una vasta gamma di ambienti”.

Una serie di test condotti con volontari ha evidenziato che questa tecnica genera una quantità di attrito maggiore dal 20 al 35% rispetto a quella di un paio di calzature tradizionali.

Senza dubbio, si tratta di una novità importante che rivoluzionerà il mondo delle calzature, in particolare di quelle sportive, medicali e per le persone anziane ma soprattutto per la sicurezza, assicurando una scarpa sicura e affidabile anche in contesti di lavoro caratterizzati da superfici bagnate o oleose.

Le prossime evoluzioni dello studio mirano ad identificare la migliore modalità per fissare il nuovo rivestimento alla suola, valutando se incorporarlo direttamente ad essa oppure utilizzarlo come un accessorio separato, da applicare in caso di necessità.

As often happens, it is the past that suggests the direction to take for the innovation of the future, and this time it has once again happened for an important discovery relative to the world of materials, and in particular, materials for soles. It’s a project presented on Nature Biomedical Engineering magazine and realised by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Mit), which has led to the development of a new material meant to coat the soles, which has been inspired by the structure of Kirigami, the traditional Japanese art of paper folding and cutting. MIT researchers in fact have confirmed that this extremely ancient technique is capable of changing our friction with the ground on a vast number of different surfaces, including ice. From here, the idea of applying it to the development of a coating for grip-fast footwear: the coating is characterised by patterns of spikes with a concave shape inserted on a sheet of plastic or metal, which increase the friction with the ground in an extremely dynamic way. The novelty of this type of surface is that there is a shape transition from a twodimensional flat surface to a three-dimensional shape: the coating remains flat and smooth while the wearer is standing but pops out during the movement of walking. “You can use those elements to control friction, because the sharp needles can pop in and out based on the stretch that you apply to the material – comments Giovanni Traverso, researcher at MIT and among the authors of the study -. It is our belief that the Kirigami coatings applied to the soles of shoes can help prevent the risk of slipping and falling in a vast range of different environments”.

A series of tests conducted with volunteers highlighted that this technique generates a friction that is 20% to 35% higher than the friction generated by the shoes alone.

Without a doubt, it’s an important innovation that will revolutionise the world of footwear, including especially those for the sports and healthcare industries, for elderly people, but above all for the safety industry, ensuring a safe and reliable shoe in work environments characterised by wet or oily surfaces.

The next evolutions of the study aim to identify the best way for applying the coating to the sole, evaluating whether it’s better to directly incorporate it or use it as a separate accessory, which can be applied only when needed.

Da qui la richiesta della aziende calzaturiere e non solo di ovviare a tutta una serie di nuove problematiche tecniche e normative. Hawai risponde con i nuovi occhielli in plastica COMPOSITO che, oltre a soddisfare importanti esigenze produttive, vanno incontro alla nuova esigenza di trasformare la scarpa di sicurezza in un articolo che guarda anche all'importante contenuto estetico.

speciale, unito alle tecnologie implementate da Hawai Italia, l’occhiello può essere applicato a freddo con le macchine occhiellatrici.

Sotto l’aspetto produttivo, i vantaggi offerti da questo sistema di applicazione sono notevoli: rapidità del montaggio, risparmio conseguente dei costi e precisione nella lavorazione. Se a tutto questo si aggiungono i vantaggi esclusivi del materiale composito: la leggerezza e la possibilità di personalizzare il design e il colore, allora si ottiene un prodotto quasi rivoluzionario. DELLA CALZATURA DI SICUREZZA VARRÀ 14 MILIARDI DI DOLLARI NEL 2026 Le società di ricerca internazionali prevedono che i fattori trascinanti la crescita saranno l'implementazione di nuove regole di sicurezza e la crescita nell'APAC

i va da una stima di crescita di 890,34 milioni di dollari con un CAGR (tasso annuale di crescita composto) del +3% previsto dalla società di ricerca Technavio per il quadriennio 2020-2024, alla più ottimistica previsione di Global Market Insights Inc. che stima una crescita dai 9 miliardi di dollari del 2019 ai 14 del 2026, con un CAGR del +6%. Quello che è certo, comunque, è che il mercato globale della calzatura di sicurezza nei prossimi anni sperimenterà una crescita consistente. E questo anche considerando l'impatto del Covid-19: dopo un primo quadrimestre 2020 con un significativo effetto, infatti, già nei successivi le conseguenze negative dovrebbero attenuarsi, fino ad incidere limitatamente sulla crescita dell'intero anno. Gli analisti sono concordi nell'indicare come driver della crescita l'implementazione di nuovi regolamenti per gli standard di sicurezza nell'industria dei diversi paesi ed il deterrente di alte penalità nel caso di mancata aderenza da parte degli organi di controllo. Allo stesso tempo, anche l'aumento degli incidenti sul lavoro sta creando una nuova consapevolezza sulla necessità di adottare questi dispositivi di sicurezza, dando ulteriore impulso al mercato.

Tra i settori dove la crescita si farà sentire maggiormente ci sono l'industria del petrolio e del gas, della chimica, delle costruzioni e dell'alimentazione, dove gli incidenti del personale sono generalmente causati dalla caduta di pesanti oggetti, scivolamenti e cadute, da ustioni e tagli, e la calzatura di sicurezza può fare la differenza per prevenirli. Ma anche l'industria dell'automobile, con la sua crescita, sarà un altro fattore importante per l'aumento delle vendite di calzature antinfortunistiche.

Tra le regioni che registreranno una maggiore crescita nel periodo tra il 20202024 c'è l'area Asia-Pacifico che già detiene la quota maggiore del mercato delle calzature antinfortunistiche: in particolare, Technavio, ritiene che in questo stesso periodo in quest'area si concentrerà il 43% della crescita globale grazie a fattori come la rapida industrializzazione e l'urbanizzazione, ma anche all'introduzione di nuove regole per la sicurezza e la prevenzione degli incidenti sul lavoro. Inoltre, la crescente industria dell'edilizia in India e Cina sta supportando la crescita nella regione.

In Nord America, la crescita della domanda di scarpe antinfortunistiche è attribuibile invece alla crescita dei mercati e alle più stringenti normative in vigore negli Stati Uniti. In Europa, dove la calzatura di sicurezza rappresenta circa il 30% della quota del mercato globale, c'è già una larga diffusione di questi dispositivi, anche grazie alle stringenti normative per la sicurezza sul lavoro. Per il 2026 Global Market Insights prevede una significativa crescita sempre guidata dai fattori come la consapevolezza sulle questioni riguardan-

ti la sicurezza, favorevoli prezzi delle materie prime e dei costi di trasporto, crescenti innovazioni da parte dei produttori di calzature antinfortunistiche.

Tra i materiali della calzatura antinfortunistica che detengono già una significativa quota di mercato c'è la pelle, che continuerà ad esercitare un ruolo dominante: ideale perché materiale non conduttivo, è utilizzata in particolare per offrire protezione dagli shock elettrici. Scelta per la qualità, si trova ad affrontare la concorrenza di prodotti realizzati con materiali spuri e di minore qualità, che però hanno il vantaggio di un prezzo più basso per i consumatori.

THE GLOBAL SAFETY SHOES MARKET WILL BE WORTH 14 BILLION DOLLARS BY 2026 Leading international research companies forecast that the driving factors of growth will be the implementation of new safety standards and the growth of APAC From an estimated growth of 890.34 million dollars with the CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) up +3% as predicted by the Technavio research company for the four-year period of 2020-2024, to the more optimistic forecasts of Global Market Insights Inc. that estimates a rise from 9 billion dollars in 2019 to 14 billion in 2026, with the CAGR up by +6%. What is certain is that over the next few years the global safety shoes market will experience consistent growth. And this is also considering the impact of Covid-19: after 2020’s first quarter, which was characterised by a clear negative trend, there should be a diminishment of these negative effects in the months to follow, impacting growth over the course of the year in a limited way.

Analysists agree that driving factors for growth will include the implementation of new safety standards in the industry by different countries, with high fines issued by the authorities serving as a deterrent to eventual non-compliance. At the same time, even the increase in workplace accidents is creating a new awareness about the need to adopt safety devices, providing further momentum to the market.

Among the sectors where growth will be most prominent are the industries of oil and gas, chemicals, construction, and food processing, where accidents are generally caused by the falling of heavy objects, slips, and falls, from burns to cuts, and safety footwear can make the difference in preventing them. At the same time, the automotive industry, with its growth, will be another important driver in increasing the sales of safety shoes.

Among the regions that will register the most growth in the 2020-2024 period is Asia Pacific, which already accounts for the largest share of the safety shoe market: in particular, Technavio believes that this area will account for 43% of global growth in the same period, thanks to factors like rapid industrialization and urbanization, but also the introduction of new safety rules and the prevention of occupational accidents. For 2026, Global Market Insights predicts significant growth always guided by factors like awareness about safety issues, favourable prices of raw materials and transportation costs, and increasingly innovative products offered by manufacturers of safety shoes.

Among the materials of safety shoes that already account for an important share of the market is leather, which will continue to play a leading role. An ideal material also because it is non-conductive it is used in particular to offer protection from electric shocks. Chosen for its quality, it finds itself facing the competition of products made using synthetic materials of lower quality, which however have the advantage of a lower price for consumers.

Among the segments, instead, the boot is what the Global Market Insights

report forecasts as driving the sector’s growth: it protects from crushing, impacts, cuts… and the growing demand for ankle protection in sectors like that of construction, and oil and gas, will provide a critical boost to market growth. According to the data elaborated by the Confindustria Fashion Research Centre, in 2019, we exported

15.28 million pairs of safety shoes (of which 13.33 were with a leather upper and 1.95 with a synthetic or rubber upper) for a value of 392.4 million euros.

The top export countries are above all European, with Germany, France, and Spain leading the way. However, we also export to Egypt, and Saudi Arabia (9th and 10th top destinations).

The economic trend of the first six months in 2020 underlined how the Covid-19 emergency did not particularly impact Italian exports, which recorded 6.63 million pairs exported for a value of 171.51 million euros.

Instead, as far as imports are concerned, in 2019, they arrived above all from four countries: Albania, Tunisia, China and Romania. Overall, we imported 14.74 million pairs, for a value of 258.98 million euros. The same suppliers are reconfirmed during the first six months of 2020, with 5.97 million pairs imported for a value of 98.2 million euros.

I principali paesi di destinazione sono soprattutto europei, con Germania, Francia e Spagna in testa. Ma esportiamo anche in Egitto e Arabia Saudita (9°e 10° destinazione).

L'andamento congiunturale del primo semestre 2020 dimostra che l'emergenza Covid-19 non ha inciso con particolare forza sull'export italiano che ha registrato 6,63 milioni di paia per un valore di 171,51 milioni di euro.

Quanto invece alle importazioni, nel 2019, sono provenute esclusivamente da quattro paesi: Albania, Tunisia, Cina e Romania. In totale importiamo 14,74 milioni di paia, per un valore di 258,98 milioni di euro. Gli stessi fornitori si confermano nel primo semestre 2020, con 5,97 milioni di paia importate per un valore di 98,2 milioni di euro.

Si è conclusa con successo e in totale sicurezza il 5 luglio scorso la più grande fiera in Cina per gli equipaggiamenti di protezione individuale, l’ultima entrata a far parte della grande famiglia di A+A. Organizzata da China Textile Commerce Association (CTCA), in collaborazione con Messe Düsseldorf (Shanghai) Co. Ltd (MDS), la 100esima edizione di China International Occupational Safety & Health Goods Expo (CIOSH) ha visto il coinvolgimento di un totale di 1.035 espositori e 21.207 visitatori professionali (erano 25.000 i visitatori nel 2019), riuniti al Shanghai International Expo Center (SNIEC) dal 3 al 5 luglio scorso. Sul fronte espositivo, erano riunite le migliori aziende del settore della sicurezza e della salute sul lavoro con brand del calibro di MSA, UVEX, Lakeland, Teijin, Xingyu Gloves, DS safety, CM Chaomei, STRONG Safety & Technology Co., Ltd., East Asia Gloves e SHIMA. Si è trattata della prima edizione organizzata sotto il controllo di Messe Düsseldorf (Shanghai) Co., Ltd, avendo la società firmato l’accordo di collaborazione con CTCA lo scorso marzo. Wolfram N. Diener, Presidente di Messe Düsseldorf (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., ha commentato al riguardo: "Riteniamo che questa collaborazione porterà CIOSH a diventare una piattaforma fondamentale a livello globale per il commercio e gli scambi dei produttori e utenti di dispositivi di protezione individuale”. CIOSH 2020: ‘LIGHTHOUSE’ FOR THE INDUSTRY Concluded with success and in complete safety last 5 July, the largest fair in China dedicated to personal protective equipment is the latest member of the large A+A family.

Organised by China Textile Commerce Association (CTCA), in collaboration with Messe Düsseldorf (Shanghai) Co. Ltd (MDS), the 100th edition of China International Occupational Safety & Health Goods Expo (CIOSH) hosted a total of 1,035 exhibitors and 21,207 professional visitors (compared to the 25,000 visitors of 2019), who gathered together at the Shanghai International Expo Center (SNIEC) this past 3 to 5 July. crisse Einstein: “La crisi è la più grande benedizione per le persone e le nazioni, perché la crisi porta progressi.”: questo è l’auspicio che ognuno di noi vorrebbe fare in una situazione come quella attuale che vede il mondo in balia dell’emergenza Covid-19, sotto la minaccia di continui limitazioni della libertà personale e possibili lock down che minano profondamente l’attività e il tessuto produttivo.

Ma come ha risposto il settore del safety al nuovo stato di cose?

C’è chi, per la natura stessa del business, ha reagito alla nuova situazione già durante il periodo di lock down totale, come Carnevali, specializzata nella produzione di rinforzi auto e termo adesivi per calzatura, pelletteria e abbigliamento in pelle.

“Abbiamo cercato di adoperarci nell'immediato per collaborare, anche nei momenti più bui di fermo totale, con aziende impegnate nella gestione della pandemia, fornendo tessuti non tessuti a scopo medicale e per la produzione di DPI. Questo ci ha permesso di garantire una continuità la-

vorativa e di affrontare l'incertezza con un po' di ottimismo” racconta Chiara Meddi, Responsabile Comunicazione di Luigi Carnevali. ”La situazione attuale è ancora permeata di incertezza, essendo l'andamento dell'economia difficile da prevedere: la ripresa c'è stata, ma è ancora molto lenta e cauta”.

Anche COIM, primaria azienda chimica, implementando tutte le normative necessarie per continuare la produzione, non ha mai chiuso. “Abbiamo colto la responsabilità sociale di tale azione facendo di tutto per andare incontro alle richieste dei clienti e non far mancare loro i prodotti interrompendo il ciclo produttivo” – afferma Francesco Macchi, Business Emea PU Footwear System di COIM. Le strategie adottate dalle aziende per far fronte all’incertezza dei mercati hanno portato in primo piano l’esigenza di flessibilità e l’importanza del servizio.

“Stiamo cercando di soddisfare le richieste di tutti i clienti in base a ciò di cui hanno bisogno giorno dopo giorno. L'attività si basa su flessibilità, tempi di consegna ridotti, disponibilità di piccole quantità. L'emergenza sanitaria ha creato anche nuove opportunità con nuovi clienti che si sono avvicinati a noi e nuovi prodotti che stiamo sviluppando. Abbiamo messo a punto un team ad hoc con un focus sullo sviluppo dei prodotti, stiamo testando nuovi tipi di materie prime per migliorare le prestazioni della gamma di prodotti esistente e per offrire nuove soluzioni” ci racconta Enrico Neri, Direttore Tecnico Texon, specializzata in materiali per calzature.

Ce lo conferma anche Chiara Meddi di Carnevali: “Sicuramente l'attenzione all'igiene e alla protezione individuale, per cercare di prevenire e limitare la trasmissione del virus e quindi la diffusione del contagio, è stato il “mantra” che ha accompagnato e accompagna il nostro vissuto quotidiano.

La richiesta sempre più massiccia dei DPI quali camici, tute monouso, mascherine di protezione, ma anche calzature e abbigliamento safety, ha fatto impennare la domanda nel nostro set-

How is the safety sector replying to this new state of things?

There are those who, in keeping with the very nature of business itself, promptly reacted to the new situation already during the period of complete lockdown, like Carnevali, specialised in the production of auto-adhesive and thermo-adhesive reinforcements for footwear, leather goods and leather apparel. “We tried to adapt ourselves in the short-term to collaborate, also during the darkest moments of total shutdown, with companies involved in the management of the pandemic, supplying them with non-woven fabric for medical purposes and for the production of PPE. This allowed us to guarantee a continuity in business and face the uncertainties of the moment with a little more optimism”, explains Chiara Meddi, Head of Communications at Luigi Carnevali.

“The current situation is still filled with uncertainties, since it is difficult to make predictions about the economic situation: there has been a recovery, but it is still very slow and cautious”.

continue producing, also COIM, a leading company in the field of chemicals, never closed. “We moved forward in a socially responsible way and did everything in our power to fulfil the demands of customers, while ensuring they had all the products they needed by not interrupting the productive cycle” – confirms Francesco Macchi, Business Emea PU Footwear System at COIM. The strategies adopted by companies in facing the uncertainties of the market positioned the need for flexibility and the importance of service in a primary place of importance.

“We are trying to satisfy the demands of all customers based on their needs day after day. This activity is based on flexibility, reduced delivery times, and the possibility of small production lots.

The healthcare emergency also created new opportunities with new customers, who showed interest in us and new products we are currently developing. We have developed an ad hoc team with a focus on product development, and we are testing new kinds of raw materials to improve the performance of the range of existing products and offer new solutions”, explains Enrico Neri, Technical Director of Texon, specialised in materials for footwear.

Questo trend è in aumento continuo, spinto dai tre principali settori di consumo – igienico, medicale, salviette. La capacità di spunbond, meltblown, spunlace e airlaid dovrebbe continuare a crescere e trovare maggiori efficienze grazie alla tecnologia. Non solo, ma il mercato delle materie prime incontrerà nuove opportunità e sfide dovute al cambiamento dei modelli di approvvigionamento, man mano che i produttori stessi guardano sempre più al proprio territorio, alla ricerca di un maggior numero di fornitori locali di fibre e prodotti chimici”.

Anche Enrico Neri, Direttore Tecnico di Texon, afferma che “Tutti i prodotti per la sicurezza devono rispettare le norme standard, quindi l'attenzione è sempre sulle prestazioni, ma stiamo anche lavorando molto per migliorare le caratteristiche antibatteriche generali”.

Chi invece, come Alba&N, produce calzature di sicurezza da oltre 25 anni, sottolinea la spinta su un trend già esistente, ma sempre più importante come quello del comfort. Come ci racconta Teuta Pistolja, CEO di Alba&N: “Con il lockdown il grande flusso lavorativo, a tratti frenetico e quasi insostenibile, ha lasciato il posto ad un ritmo più cadenzato e ha avviato delle inevitabili riflessioni.

Ad esempio, tutti abbiamo compreso o ci siamo semplicemente ricordati dell’importanza che il lavoro ha nelle nostre vite. Chi poi è tornato al lavoro, è ormai fuori casa tutto il giorno, ha pochi ritagli di tempo libero e spesso prosegue gli impegni giornalieri, o semplicemente i momenti di vita sociale, senza neppure cambiare le scarpe del lavoro. Ne consegue che la calzatura di sicurezza diventa la scarpa che si indossa per la maggior parte del tempo della nostra giornata.

Questa è stata la nostra constatazione e la spinta

propulsiva a cercare nuove soluzioni che potessero elevare al massimo il comfort e l’estetica delle nostre calzature, senza mai tralasciare i requisiti di sicurezza. Il primo passo è stato quello di cercare nuovi modelli di sneakers, il tipo di calzature dal gusto sportivo preferite da donne e uomini. Quello immediatamente successivo è stato cercare di renderle comode e leggere.”.

Secondo Alba&N “Il consumatore è oggi particolarmente attento al confort. Per questo abbiamo messo a punto la suola “Performer”, nel cui sviluppo si è cercato con successo di calibrare i requisiti di sicurezza (grip e resistenza) con un design sportivo, flessibilità, morbidezza e leggerezza. Nell’ottica di un maggiore benessere/salute, è stato anche messo a punto il sottopiede di ultima generazione “Elisa Memory”, con un rivestimento tessile o di cuoio, a contatto con il piede, abbinato a uno strato in memory foam ed infine a una base di poliuretano ergonomico e con cushion al tallone. Non si tratta solo di stabilizzare il piede e di assorbire i suoi impatti col suolo nel mentre si cammina, queste solette possono risultare ottime anche nei casi di piede pronato e di vari dolori ai piedi. Migliorando anche il modo in cui viene distribuita la pressione del corpo sulla pianta del piede, si possono persino prevenire calli e vesciche”. “Infine – prosegue Teuta Pistolja - per chi ha problemi di natura ortopedica, abbiamo certificato alcune linee delle nostre calzature in conformità con la norma tedesca DGUV 112-191, che stabilisce le caratteristiche necessarie per mantenere la certificazione CE delle calzature di sicurezza anche nel caso di modifiche ortopediche dei plantari all’interno delle stesse.

Anche Giovanni Giuliano di Bicap sottolinea che “Sempre di più oggi, per essere vincente, un prodotto deve avere il giusto mix di caratteri quali la resilienza all’uso, garantire il giusto comfort al piede, essere esteticamente accattivante ed infine avere un equilibrato contenuto tecnico e innovativo”.

Secondo Macchi di COIM, tra le caratteristiche ritenute oggi più importanti in un articolo per la sicurezza vi sono tecnologia e design: “La nostra clientela si sta focalizzando su scarpe ad alto contenuto tecnologico, unite ad un peso leggero e ad una elevata resistenza nel tempo della suola in poliuretano, senza perdere le caratteristiche originali. C’è anche un crescente interesse nei confronti del design della calzatura”.

L’avvento del Covid-19 ha però anche mostrato l’attualità del cosiddetto ‘battito d’ali’, l’interconnessione di ogni essere vivente e del suo modo di vivere con il tutto e la fragilità di questo nostro ecosistema. Da qui un’attenzione crescente verso la tematica ambientale, che già occupava le prime pagine dei giornali e gli incontri ai vertici internazionali.

Partendo dai materiali a monte, questa maggiore sensibilità verso la sostenibilità è stata raccolta anche dalla Luigi Carnevali, dove Chiara Meddi afferma: “Sicuramente ci siamo resi conto che la pandemia ha creato una rottura con il passato e ha generato una nuova era, definita da rapidi cambiamenti nelle norme culturali, nei valori della società e nei comportamenti. La risposta della Luigi Carnevali al cambiamento in atto è una politica aziendale più responsabile, con approvvigionamenti di materie prime sempre più mirati, tenendo conto delle nuove opportunità e sfide dovute al cambiamento. Inoltre, l’utilizzo di materiali sintetici dovrebbe aumentare man mano che le preoccupazioni riguardanti la sostenibilità, tema particolarmente sentito dai consumatori, si allineano più pragmaticamente con le priorità di salute e igiene, sebbene le implicazioni del ciclo di vita completo delle mascherine prodotte in serie debbano ancora essere avvertite e probabilmente costituiranno un problema nei prossimi mesi e anni”.

La tematica ambientale è al centro anche di chi, come Alba&N, opera nel prodotto finito. Afferma infatti Teuta Pistolja: “In alcuni casi, i materiali delle tomaie sono stati scelti seguendo una tendenza di grande importanza nel mondo attuale: l’attenzione all’ambiente. Consci delle crescenti ed impellenti problematiche ambientali, soprattutto di quelle legate allo smaltimento dei rifiuti, abbiamo sviluppato calzature di sicurezza e da lavoro con tomaie in TexPet, un materiale proveniente dal riciclo di bottiglie PET post-consumo”.

Un altro trend che l’avvento della pandemia e, soprattutto il lockdown, hanno accelerato è la digitalizzazione e l’incremento delle vendite online. Afferma Chiara Meddi di Carnevali: “Il Covid 19 ha accelerato il cambiamento dell’industria italiana verso la digita-

tomised approach: “We re-organised the structure of our offering, making more room for customer service, and putting the needs of our customers at the centre of our business model. Although the pandemic was worldwide, the needs and difficulties varied from nation to nation, and from customer to customer. So, for B2B customers/ partners of a certain importance and significance, the business approach is becoming one2one, with the relative difficulties and opportunities that arise from this constant interaction”. “Not to be forgotten is that in this service is also included a constant updating of the product, above all in the high-end range of the offering, characterised by continuous research in terms of innovation and technology”.

The period we are going through – with greater attention to health, hygiene, and safety – has also influenced the purchasing needs and demands of the consumer, even in the safety sector. This is what is confirmed

by Chiara Meddi from Carnevali: “Certainly the attention on hygiene and individual protection, to try and prevent and limit the transmission and spread of the virus was the ‘mantra’ which accompanied us and which still accompanies us in our daily lives. The increasingly high demand for PPE like shirts, single-use hazmat suits, protective masks, but also safety footwear and apparel, have made the demand in our sector for antibacterial technical weaves and non-woven filtering fabrics rise significantly. This uptrend, which is constantly on the rise, is driven by three main consumer sectors – hygienic, medical, and sanitary. The capacity of spunbond, meltblown, spunlace and airlaid should continue to grow with greater efficiency thanks to technology. That’s not all. The market of raw materials will also meet up with new opportunities and challenges arising from changes in sourcing models, as the producers themselves

increasingly look to their own territories, in search of a greater number of local suppliers of fibres and chemical products”.

Enrico Neri, Technical Director of Texon, confirms that, “All safety products must respect safety standards, so the attention is increasingly on performance, but we are also working a lot to improve the overall antibacterial characteristics”.

There are then companies like Alba&N, a producer of safety footwear for over 25 years, which underline the driving force of an already existing, yet increasingly important, trend like comfort. As confirmed by Teuta Pistolja, CEO of Alba&N: “With the lockdown, the constant ebb and flow of business, which at times was frenetic and almost unmanageable, made way for a more measured and moderate rhythm, leading us to some inevitable reflections. For example, we all understood or we simply remembered the importance that work has on our lives. Those who have now returned to work and are once again outside of their homes all day long, have very little free time left, and often continue their day-to-day activities, including moments of social interaction, without ever changing out of their work shoes. So, the safety shoe winds up becoming the shoe that is worn for most of the day. This is the conclusion we have come to and it represents the driving force in identifying new solutions that might elevate the comfort and aesthetics of our footwear to the highest possible level, without ever neglecting safety standard requirements. The first step was that of selecting new sneaker models, the kind of sporty footwear preferred by men and women. That immediately following was to try making them comfortable and lightweight”.

According to Alba&N, “Today’s consumer is especially attentive to comfort. For this reason, we have perfected the ‘Performer’ sole, successfully managing to balance requirements of safety (grip and resistance) with a sporty design, flexibility, softness, and lightness. With an eye to greater well-being/health, we also fine-tuned the stateof-the-art “Elisa Memory” insole, with a textile or leather lining, in contact with the foot, a memory foam layer, and finally an ergonomic polyurethane base with cushion in the heel. It’s not just about stabilising the foot and absorbing its impact with the ground while walking. These insoles are also ideally suited to those who have problems of foot pronation and various pains associated with the feet. Even Giovanni Giuliano from Bicap underlines how, “Increasingly today, in order to be winning, a product must have the right mix of features like resistance to use, while guaranteeing the right comfort for the foot, being aesthetically striking, and finally having a balanced technical and innovative content”.

According to Macchi from COIM, among the features considered most important today in a safety item are technology and design: “Our clientele is focusing on shoes with a high technological content, combined with a light weight and high resistance over time of the polyurethane sole, without sacrificing any of the original features.

There is also a growing interest in terms of the footwear’s design”.

Covid-19 demonstrated how the theory of “the butterfly effect” is truer now than ever before, with the interconnectedness of every living being, the way we coexist with everything, and the fragility of our ecosystem. From this arrives a growing attention to environmental issues, which were already front-page news and a priority at international summits.

Starting from materials along the supply chain, this greater awareness of sustainability has also become of key importance to Luigi Carnevali, where Chiara Meddi confirms: “We did not fail to notice how the pandemic made a break with the past and generated a new era, defined by rapid changes in cultural norms, society’s values and behaviours. The answer of Luigi Carnevali to this on-going change was to implement a more responsible corporate policy, with an increasingly meticulous sourcing of materials, while keeping in

In tempo di lockdown, la nostra azienda come molte altre ha cercato di operarsi per sfruttare al meglio le tecnologie informatiche tramite lo smartworking, ma sarà necessaria senza dubbio anche una revisione profonda della filiera, per evitare in futuro interruzioni della produzione”.

C’è poi l’aspetto dellaumento delle vendite online.

“Siamo, infatti, entrati nella "nuova normalità". Durante il lockdown abbiamo assistito ad un cambiamento epocale. Nel giro di un mese è stato compiuto un balzo in avanti per quanto riguarda la digitalizzazione e la crescita esponenziale dell’e-commerce.

Una buona fetta di consumatori, una volta provata l'esperienza, più comoda e semplice, dell'acquisto online, ha deciso di continuare ad usufruirne anche una volta terminate le restrizioni, anche se per i prodotti della sicurezza il discorso viene un po' “mitigato” dalla più sentita necessità di un'esperienza sensoriale e di un'interazione fisica con il prodotto, prima dell'acquisto. I punti vendita fisici, quindi, possono ancora essere in grande vantaggio, specialmente in caso di questo tipo di settore merceologico: i DPI sono prodotti con un'alta componente emozionale”.

Anche Giovanni Giuliano di Bicap conferma la spinta verso la digitalizzazione a tutti i livelli: “Anche nel mondo safety la vendita on-line continua a crescere a ritmi sostenuti. In futuro sarà sicuramente un importante canale di vendita che non andrà però a sostituire il punto vendita fisico, piuttosto andrà ad integrarlo, adeguando la vendita dei prodotti safety, alla customer journey del consumatore finale che si sta sempre di più

digitalizzando”. Secondo Francesco Macchi di COIM, proprio l’online rappresenta una delle vere e grandi opportunità rivelate appieno dall’avvento della pandemia: “Le potenziali opportunità che vediamo in futuro, legate al mondo della calzatura, sono relative all’incremento delle vendite online. La sensazione attuale è che questa tipologia di vendita richieda un accorciamento della supply chain con una conseguente possibilità di short demand. Quindi potrebbe esserci una riallocazione delle produzioni che sono attualmente in Asia verso mercati più vicini (EMEA), al fine di poter soddisfare la veloce domanda del commercio online”.

Afferma anche Enrico Neri di Texon “L'allontanamento sociale e i nuovi comportamenti dovuti all'emergenza Corona virus stanno decisamente spingendo i consumatori ad avvicinarsi a nuove modalità di acquisto. Le vendite online saranno una di queste e, forse, la più importante” .

Infine, un ultimo aspetto che abbiamo affrontato, collegato anche allo sviluppo dell’online, riguarda le fiere di settore: quale ruolo avranno nel prossimo futuro?

“Il 2020 sarà ricordato come l’anno delle fiere annullate o rinviate a causa dell’emergenza sanitaria legata al Covid-19, e alle restrizioni relative all’organizzazione di grandi eventi – afferma Chiara Meddi di Carnevali -.In questa contingenza, il digital marketing è una scelta obbligata, ma questo non significa affatto che l’epoca delle esposizioni fieristiche è finita. Partecipare a una fiera di settore ha un valore che va oltre il mero ritorno economico. Essere presenti tra gli espositori è un’attività che supporta la brand awareness per un’azienda, e che consente di incrementare la

propria rete di contatti. Ciò che veramente conta, in qualunque investimento sul marketing, sia esso “virtuale” o fatto tramite un'esibizione in fiera, è la scelta equilibrata di canali che portino profitto all’azienda, analizzando costi/benefici in maniera strategica e secondo i propri obiettivi specifici, nei tempi giusti. Come spesso accade nella vita, anche nel marketing, la bussola per una scelta efficace sta nel mezzo e nell’integrazione armoniosa di più canali, individuati tra quelli più efficienti per raggiungere gli specifici obiettivi aziendali.

Secondo Enrico Neri di Texon “Ci vorrà molto tempo prima che le fiere tornino ad essere un luogo fisico di incontri, ma potranno mantenere il loro ruolo di punto di incontro per fornitori e clienti se riusciranno a gestire con efficacia le piattaforme digitali, come le fiere virtuali, e saranno in grado di connettere gli attori della filiera del mercato per condividere continuamente le informazioni”.

Afferma ancora Giovanni Giuliano di Bicap: ”Le fiere continueranno ad avere un ruolo importante nel piano di marketing di qualsiasi azienda. Rappresentano il principale momento di contatto fisico tra l’azienda e il cliente, in cui viene finalizzato l’intero lavoro svolto a distanza. Durante le fiere si riescono maggiormente a trasmettere tutti quei valori umani che caratterizzano un’azienda e la sua storia, valori che alla fine portano i clienti a privilegiare un “fornitore partner” rispetto ad un semplice “fornitore””.

C’è anche chi auspica nuove modalità ibride per gli appuntamenti fieristici: “Potrebbe essere interessante incrementare sempre più un mix di presenza fisica e virtuale” afferma Francesco Macchi di COIM.

Environmental responsibility is also central for companies like Alba&N, specialised in finished products. Teuta Pistolja in fact confirms this: “In some cases, the materials of the uppers were chosen following a trend of great importance in the present-day world: environmental responsibility.

Aware of the growing and pressing urgency of environmental issues, above all of those connected to waste disposal, we developed safety and occupational footwear with uppers in TexPet, a material coming from the recycling of post-consumer PET bottles”.

Another trend that the pandemic and above all the lockdown accelerated is that of digitalisation with a rise in online sales. This is confirmed by Chiara Meddi from Carnevali: “Covid-19 fuelled the trend of digitalisation in the Italian industry, something considered important for a number of years, but which had always been pushed back. During the lockdown, our company, like many others, tried to update itself so it could make the most of information technologies through smart working, but without a doubt also a complete updating of the supply chain will be necessary to avoid future interruptions in production”. There is then the increase in online sales.

“We have in fact entered the ‘new normality’.

During the lockdown, we witnessed a change of epoch dimensions. Within just one month, a leap forward was made in digitalisation and the exponential growth of e-commerce. A good part of consumers, once they personally experienced the ease and greater comfort offered by online purchases, decided to continue buying online even once restrictions were lifted, even if for safety products this trend is slightly “mitigated” by the greater need consumers feel to have a sensorial experience and physical interaction with the product before purchasing it. So, physical stores can still have a big advantage over virtual ones, especially in this sector of products: PPE is produced with a high degree of emotional content”.

Giovanni Giuliano from Bicap likewise confirms the drive towards digitalisation on all levels: “Even in the safety world, online sales continue to grow at a sustained rhythm. In the future, it will undoubtedly be an important sales channel, which however will not replace the physical store, but rather merge with it, updating the sales of safety products to the customer journey of the final consumer who is increasingly digitalised”.

According to Francesco Macchi from COIM, the online channel represents one of the genuine opportunities fully and completely revealed during the pandemic: “Potential future opportunities connected to the world of footwear are aligned with the rise in online sales. The current feeling is that this kind of sales requires a shortening of the supply chain with the subsequent possibility of shortening the demand. There could accordingly be a reallocation of production currently outsourced in Asia towards markets that are closer by

(EMEA), in order to satisfy the fast timing of online commerce”.

This is also confirmed by Enrico Neri from Texon, “Social distancing and new behaviours associated with the Corona virus are decidedly pushing consumers towards new ways of purchasing. Online sales will be one of these and may even become the most important”.

Finally, one last consequence that we faced, connected also to the development of the online channel, regards sector fairs: what role will they play in the near future?

“2020 will be remembered as the year of fairs that were cancelled or postponed because of the Covid-19 healthcare emergency, with restrictions in the organisation of leading events – comments Chiara Meddi from Carnevali -. In these circumstances, digital marketing is an obligatory choice, but this does not mean at all that the epoch of trade fairs is over. Participating in a sector fair has a value that goes beyond mere economic return.

Being present among exhibitors is an activity that supports brand awareness for a company, allowing for a rise in network contacts. What really counts, in any marketing investment, whether it’s ‘virtual’ or done through an actual exhibition, is a balanced choice of channels that will lead to profit for the company, with a strategic analysis of costs/ benefits in accordance with a set of specific goals and the perfect timing. What is often true in life is also true in marketing: the correct orientation of the compass for an effective choice lies in the middle with the harmonious integration of multiple channels, identified as those that will be most effective in achieving specific company goals”.

According to Enrico Neri from Texon “A long time must pass before fairs return as a physical meeting place, but they can maintain their role as a meeting point between suppliers and customers if they are successful in their attempts to effectively manage digital platforms, virtual fairs, and connect players in the market’s supply chain so they can constantly exchange information”.

Once again, Giovanni Giuliano from Bicap confirms: “Fairs will continue to play an important role in the marketing plans of any company. They represent the main moment of physical contact between company and customer, with the finalisation of all the work done remotely. During the fairs, they manage to transmit more effectively all those human values characterising a company and its history, values that in the end lead customers to consider you a ‘supplier partner’ and not just a simple ‘supplier’”.

There are also those who hope for new hybrid trade fair formats in the future: “It could be interesting to increasingly present a mix of physical and virtual participants”, comments Francesco Macchi from COIM.

The innovative DTRS® system is made up by numerous technologies: DER® technology is at the heart of the revolutionary midsole made up by PU microcapsules which, when the shoe impacts the ground, stores the kinetic energy to then return it in the subsequent step phase with an energy return of 40%. The DXT® carbon fibre toecap has an incredible strength-weight ratio. One step ahead of future safety regulations, the penetration-resistant sole in aramid fibre of DTS® weighs 50% less than the most widely used midplates but is also ultra-resistant. Thanks to its great expertise in offering solutions to the problems typically associated with footwear and insoles production, Tecno2 replies to the demands of an increasingly demanding clientele, while remaining attentive to productive processes and constantly evolving production, with 4.0 TECHNOLOGY HMI (HUMAN - MACHINE INTERFACE) SYSTEM applied to the T/72/Touch Screen Sole Press and the T3000 Insole Preforming Machine. These two machines perfectly integrate the work done by the operator with the hardware and software: the T/72 hydraulic universal sole press with self-shaping levels, rubber sectors pads and with self-adaptable footwear stop arms suitable for all kinds of soles, is fitted with a Digital Touch Screen that makes programming, storing, and recalling programs easy, while guaranteeing the control of the machine parameters and of the production standards, with the possibility of remote technical assistance. T3000 instead allows for the pressing/ preforming of insoles with automatic extraction and conveyors, with tilting press movement of the upper moulds for insoles locking, and the possibility of using with various kinds of moulds: with rear cuts and rear adjustment locks mounted on the mould. Alba Shoes Group was in fact first founded as a manufacturer of uppers in 1993, in Lac, Albania. Initially specialised in the production of private labels, thanks to its collaborations with a number of prestigious international brands, a vast and diversified range of footwear produced under the company’s brands of Alba&n and XQT was conceived. Accordingly, it is the ideal accessory when used in urban and casual footwear, as well as in sneakers. Mustang and Thermoform are also brand new and can be used individually or in combination with one another, allowing for the creation of different kinds of conductive insoles. Thermoform is a thermoformable material that offers different possibilities of bonding with technical fabrics in accordance with customer needs, while Mustang is a polyurethane rubber available in various densities and colours, perfect in creating the right structure for insoles used in the world of safety products.

The antibacterial fabrics Rete Wolf and Sanyhygienical are instead the right products for replying to present-day needs: perfect for the production of technical footwear and footwear for sanitary/hygienic needs, they can be applied even to footwear for daily use. Rete Wolf is an antibacterial warpknitted fabric made of polyester, while Sanyhygienical is in polyamide, with greater resistance to abrasion.

er metterla a punto, Cofra è partita dallo studio della volta plantare, diversa in ognuno di noi, e soggetta a sforzi e deformazioni durante la camminata. All’interno della suola in poliuretano/TPU sono stati inseriti tre diversi inserti in speciale materiale automodellante, posti in corrispondenza dei tre punti d’appoggio metatarsali e calcaneare del piede, che si adattano alla distribuzione del peso di ciascun utilizzatore e assorbono le differenti percentuali di carico applicato, conferendo una sensazione di benessere personalizzato. L’intersuola è inoltre più

leggera e confortevole, grazie all’innovativa mescola PU Lightest, mentre l’ampia superficie del battistrada favorisce un’ottima stabilità grazie anche ai ramponi perimetrali “a dente di sega”. Trazione e flessibilità infine sono garantiti dai piccoli ramponi centrali, che offrono anche ottime proprietà drenanti ed autopulenti. La linea è dotata di un nuovo sottopiede antiperforazione in tessuto non tessuto, conduttivo, quasi integralmente riciclato, più morbido, flessibile e leggero del 55% rispetto ai dispositivi antiperforazione in tessuto. La sua tramatura alveolare offre, inoltre, livelli di isolamento termico mai raggiunti finora, nel rispetto dei requisiti della normativa UNI EN 12568:2010. Il puntale è in fibra di vetro, amagnetico, dallo spessore ridotto in punta e dalle eccellenti proprietà meccaniche di resistenza a carichi statici ed impulsivi. E’ isolante termicamente e più leggero, solo 60 g rispetto ai 90 g del puntale in acciaio. Per garantire ulterior-

mente il comfort, è stata messa a punto una soletta in schiuma espansa PU in grado di soddisfare tutte le differenti esigenze di camminata. La bassissima durezza del materiale conferisce un “effetto cuscino”, senza pregiudicare la perfetta postura dell’utilizzatore.

Fine-tuning it is the Cofra R&D team, starting from the study of the arch of the foot, which is different in each one of us, and subject to stress and noticeable deformation when walking. Three different inserts made from special self-shaping material were inserted into the PU/TPU sole and positioned next to three points of metatarsal and heel support for the foot, which adapt to the weight distribution of each individual user, absorbing the different percentages of weight load, while conveying a personalised feeling of well-being. The midsole is also lighter and more comfortable, thanks to the innovative compound PU Lightest. At the same time, the wide surface of the tread favours optimum stability, thanks also to the lateral cleats characterised by a ‘sawtooth’

design. Finally, traction and flexibility are guaranteed by small central cleats, which also offer excellent draining and self-cleaning properties.The line is fitted with a conductive brand new antiperforation insole in fabric-non-fabric, which is entirely recycled and softer, more flexible, and 55% lighter than any other anti-perforation fabric device. Its honeycomb weave offers never-before-seen levels of thermal insultation, while complying with the requirements UNI EN 12568:2010 safety standard. The nonmagnetic fibreglass toecap has reduced thickness in the toes and excellent mechanical properties of resistance to electrostatic discharges and impulses. It also offers thermal insulation and is lighter weight, only 60 grams compared to the 90 grams of steel toe-

caps. To guarantee even greater comfort, it was developed with an insole made from PU foam capable of satisfying different walking needs. The extremely low hardness of the material conveys a “cushioning effect”, without compromising on the perfect posture of the user in all phases of walking and flexing. The preformed line guarantees correct support throughout the entire workday, in every support point of the foot.

sempio di imprenditoria di successo al femminile, Marina Bongiorno ci racconta come la sua azienda abbia cercato di cogliere, nel difficile momento che stiamo vivendo, delle opportunità per crescere e innovare, partendo dall’ascolto delle esigenze della clientela: “La chiave del successo è comprendere i bisogni dei nostri clienti”.

Che impatto ha avuto l’avvento della pandemia sul vostro business?

La pandemia è stata positiva per il nostro e-commerce avvicinando, anche le persone più scettiche a questo metodo di acquisto. L’e-commerce online Bongiornowork opera da 18 anni nella vendita di DPI e abbigliamento di sicurezza e nel corso del tempo la piattaforma digitale è cresciuta e si è affermata sempre di più nel settore, facendoci conoscere tra gli operatori per l’attenta selezione dei nostri prodotti e per la qualità e affidabilità di quelli a nostro marchio. In questo senso, la pandemia ci ha trovato più preparati ad affrontare la situazione rispetto ai rivenditori tradizionali.

Come avete reagito al nuovo stato di cose?

Durante il periodo di lockdown abbiamo deciso di investire con decisione sulla comunicazione attraverso spot televisivi sulle reti Rai e private per accrescere la notorietà del nostro e-commerce, ma anche per lanciare un messaggio di serietà e affidabilità: ‘Noi ci siamo, e ci occupiamo con serietà e competenza di sicurezza’.

Quali sono le difficoltà maggiori che vi trovate ad affrontare, ma anche quali opportunità si sono venute a creare?

Le difficoltà maggiori che incontriamo e che sono venute a crearsi in conseguenza dell’avvento della pandemia sono legate al proliferare di operatori e realtà che propongono dispositivi di sicurezza senza avere alcuna competenza al riguardo.

Oggi si vendono mascherine e dispositivi protettivi ovunque, senza che vi sia alcuna garanzia di quanto si acquista. Penso che il Governo avrebbe dovuto affidare la distribuzione di questi dispositivi a realtà specializzate come la nostra, che conoscono a fondo i prodotti e le normative vigenti.

Per questo motivo abbiamo visto nel momento attuale il periodo ideale per investire in comunicazione e far sapere al grande pubblico che ci occupiamo di proteggere la sicurezza e la salute delle persone con serietà e competenza.

Secondo lei, il periodo che stiamo vivendo ha influito sulle esigenze di acquisto di calzature e abbigliamento di sicurezza (ad esempio, la maggiore attenzione all’igiene e alla salute )?

Non credo che l’avvento della pandemia abbia modificato le esigenze della clientela in termini di caratteristiche di prodotto, piuttosto il timore di un nuovo lockdown o chiusure tra regioni può portare a problemi circa gli approvvigionamenti.

Quali caratteristiche ritiene che siano oggi più importanti in una calzatura da lavoro e di sicurezza?

Sicuramente uno degli aspetti che sono tenuti in maggiore considerazione è la leggerezza e la praticità d’uso, quindi sistemi di allacciamento veloci e facili, ma anche il design ha un’importanza crescente.

In passato, ad esempio, si compravano preferibilmente calzature alte in inverno e basse d’estate, mentre ora si privilegiano per tutte le stagioni calzature dall’estetica

sneaker. Conta molto anche il marchio, perché i brand molto conosciuti e pubblicizzati sono per il consumatore una maggiore garanzia di affidabilità del prodotto, anche in termini di sicurezza.

Quali sono i mercati su cui puntate di più nel prossimo futuro (abbigliamento, accessori, scarpe)? Di quali paesi?

Noi lavoriamo in tutto il mondo attraverso il nostro e-commerce, appoggiandoci anche ad altri portali internazionali. Stiamo inoltre portando avanti un programma di investimento in termini di comunicazione su alcuni mercati esteri legati all’italianità. Essere italiani crea un valore aggiunto a tutti i prodotti di abbigliamento e calzature, compreso i prodotti che riguardano il lavoro.

Da sempre, sin dal tempo degli antichi romani, il nostro gusto e la nostra competenza hanno un grande valore.

Pensa che in futuro si svilupperà maggiormente la vendita online di prodotti di sicurezza oppure ritiene che il punto vendita fisico sia ancora di centrale importanza?

Penso che dipenda da zona a zona e da Paese a Paese. Ad esempio, noi lavoriamo molto bene attraverso il nostro e-commerce in Europa, ma la vendita tramite catalogo ha ancora una grande validità. Per questo affianchiamo al nostro e-commerce anche la vendita tramite catalogo cartaceo e attraverso la visualizzazione del nostro showroom di 2mila metri quadri a Curno, in provincia di Bergamo.

Un’ultima domanda: quale ruolo devono avere le fiere di settore nel prossimo futuro?

Penso che le fiere di settore siano un importante momento di incontro con la clientela, ma questo non esclude che ci possano essere delle fiere digitali anche durante tutto l’anno, viste le nuove tecnologie. L’ideale sarebbe proprio affiancare agli appuntamenti biennali in presenza, delle fiere virtuali durate l’arco dell’anno che permettano di avvicinarsi alle esigenze della clientela. Questo perché la cosa fondamentale è sempre ascoltare il cliente, capire di cosa ha bisogno e cercare di soddisfarlo.

We met up with the CEO of one of the leading e-commerce sites for work shoes, occupational apparel, and accessories of the very best brands, as well as the brand Bongiorno Utility, to learn what has changed after the pandemic and what strategies have been put into practice.

An example of successful female entrepreneurship, Marina Bongiorno, in the difficult moment we are all experiencing, explains how her company tried to make the most of the opportunities to grow and innovate, starting by listening to the needs of clientele: “The key to success is understanding the needs of our customers”.

What impact did the pandemic have on your business?

The pandemic was positive for our e-commerce channel, convincing even those who were very sceptical about this kind of purchasing method to use it. Bongiornowork e-commerce has been active for 18 years in the sales of PPE and workwear, and over time the digital platform has grown and increasingly confirmed itself in the sector, allowing us to gain a solid reputation among sector operators for the attentive selection of our products and for the quality and reliability of our brand. In this sense, the pandemic found us better prepared to face the situation than traditional retailers How did you react to the new state of things?

During the lockdown, we decided to purposefully invest in communication through TV ads on the Rai TV channels and privately owned TV channels to gain further notoriety for our e-commerce, but also launch a message of seriousness and reliability: ‘We are here for you and we offer seriousness and expertise in our approach to safety wear”.

What are the biggest difficulties that you find yourselves facing and what opportunities were created?

The biggest difficulties we encountered and which were created by the pandemic are connected to the proliferation of operators and realities that propose safety devices without having any kind of expertise in this segment. Today, masks and personal protective equipment are sold everywhere, without any kind of guarantee about the product you are buying. I believe the government should have entrusted distribution of these devices to specialised companies likes ours, which completely understand these products and current legislation.

For this reason, we saw this moment as the ideal

time for investing in communication and letting the public at large know that we are specialised in protecting the safety and health of people with seriousness and expertise.

In your opinion, has the period we are currently living in influenced safety footwear and workwear purchasing needs (for example, with greater attention to hygiene and health)?

I do not believe that the pandemic changed the needs of clientele in terms of product features, but rather the fear of a new lockdown and closings in regions could lead to problems in terms of supply.

What features do you believe are the most important today in safety and occupational footwear?

Undoubtedly one of the aspects that is considered the most is lightness and practicality of use, so quick and easy fastening systems, but also design has a growing importance. In the past, for example, we would preferably buy high-top footwear for the winter and low-top footwear for the summer, while now sneaker-like footwear is preferred for all seasons. The brand is likewise especially important, because for the consumer, brands that are well-advertised and well-known are a greater guarantee of the product’s reliability, also in terms of safety.

What markets will you focus on more in the near future (apparel, accessories, shoes)? In which countries?

We work around the world through our e-commerce channel, while also relying on other inter-

national portals. We are also moving forward with an investment programme in terms of communication on some foreign markets connected to Italian products. Being Italian creates added value in all products of apparel and footwear, including those destined for work. Since the times of the ancient Romans, Italian taste and expertise have always had great value.

In the future, do you believe the online sales of safety products will be further developed or do you believe the physical store is still of central importance?

I believe it varies from area to area and from country to country. For example, we work very well with our e-commerce in Europe, but sales through our catalogue are still extremely valid. For this reason, we support our e-commerce channel by flanking it with sales through our physical catalogue and through visits to our 2 thousand-metre showroom in Curno, in the province of Bergamo.

One last question: what role must sector fairs play in the near future?

I believe that sector fairs represent an important moment for meeting up with clientele, but this does not mean there cannot also be digital fairs taking place throughout the course of the year, since new technologies now make it possible. It would be ideal to flank biannual events with virtual fairs taking place over the course of the year, which would allow the needs of clientele to be better satisfied. This is because it is fundamental to always listen to customers, try to understand what they require, and satisfy their needs.

Vengono ridotti drasticamente i costi diretti e indiretti, come la spesa della manutenzione ordinaria, poiché non ci sono più le valvole di flusso proporzionale, le pompe di flusso variabile e i compensatori. Inoltre scompare la manutenzione dei cilindri e delle valvole, poiché le giunture, lavorando con l’olio freddo, non sono soggette ad usura.

For this reason, Main Group, in order to achieve a high degree of efficiency for the entire system, whether it’s a rotary or linear machine for injection, has developed new state-of-the-art processes.

With the aim of achieving low energy consumption, innovative brushless motors have been integrated into DELT-UP, a series of machines for injecting boots with thermoplastic materials, destined for occupational safety. One of the main advantages of this new technology is the 80% reduced oil cooling capacity, which can be replaced every 30,000 hours instead of every

10,000 hours. The savings achieved is also in terms of costs. Direct and indirect costs are drastically reduced, as are the expenses for ordinary maintenance, since there are no longer proportional flux valves, variable flux pumps, and compensators. Moreover, it disappears the maintenance of the cylinders and valves, as the joints, which use cold oil are no longer subject to wear-and-tear.

In particolare, LIBA® dà il suo meglio in tutte le condizioni climatiche, è resistente ai raggi UV e all'ozono, ed è al 100% riciclabile.

TechnoTPU è invece un poliuretano termoplastico altamente perfomante ed ecologico: più sottile e leggero rispetto alla pelle e alla gomma, ha un'elevata resistenza all'abrasione con elevati valori martindale (secondo la norma UNI EN ISO 2034445) con una resistenza che è ben 10 volte superiore a un corrispettivo articolo in PVC. TechnoTPU sopporta ripetuti stress alle flessioni con ottimi risultati sia a temperatura ambiente, sia a basse temperature, ed è eco-friendly perchè completamente privo di PVC ed esente da solfati come DMF, benzene e toluene.

Particolarmente adatto per la realizzazione di rinforzi su puntali, zone posteriori e fascioni di calzature che hanno bisogno di prestazioni elevate, sia tecniche che estetiche, TechnoTPU grazie alle sue peculiarità può essere anche utilizzato in altri settori industriali in cui leggerezza e resistenza alle

abrasioni sono requisiti specifici. Aspetto non trascurabile, poi, è che TechnoTPU è completamente personalizzabile nell'aspetto con colori, pattern, ed anche nelle formulazioni, con vari spessori e gradi di elasticità, e può essere trattato con termoadesivi.

SECTOR FAIRS: ENCOURAGING RELAUNCH AND OPTIMISM FOR THE FUTURE MICAM and Lineapelle - A New Point of View, together with other fashion fairs under the banner #strongertogether began the September season of fairs with encouraging numbers. A positive signal also in light of the January 2021 edition of Expo Riva Schuh A result, which in a global context affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, should be interpreted as encouraging: a good 16 thousand buyers, of which 4 thousand from abroad, with especially strong participation from nearby Switzerland, Germany, and France. Buyers who wanted to believe in the restart of the fashion industry and reward with their presence the events that came together under the #strongertogether banner at FieraMilano Rho from 20 to 25 September. It was in fact a rewarding experience for all the exhibiting companies courageous enough to participate in MICAM, the international footwear trade fair; MIPEL, the international event dedicated to leather goods and accessories; TheOneMilano Special featured by MICAM, the women's haut-à-porter show; A New Point Of View by Lineapelle, the show of leathers and materials for the fashion industry; and HOMI Fashion&Jewels Exhibition. The compact trade fair offering proved itself advantageous in this difficult moment, launching a positive and clear signal of the market’s desire to react. Orders were not lacking at the fair, even if the downtrend – which is understandable – was related to the dif-

ficulties of the moment: from here on out, however, it is possible to look forward.

In particular, MICAM (20-23 September) shined the spotlight on the SpringSummer 2021 collections, with a focus on Emerging Designers, the new talents in international footwear, and MICAM X, the space dedicated to materials, sustainability, retail, and heritage & innovation, which also hosted animated talks, trend presentations, and workshops. Terminate le fiere in presenza, le manifestazioni di #strongertogether continuano a tenere aperto il dialogo tra aziende e buyer in via digitale attraverso applicazioni, smart catalogue e portali di business, come il MICAM Digital Show.

Considerato l'andamento delle manifestazioni di settembre e consultati tutti gli operatori, Expo Riva Schuh, la più importante manifestazione fieristica internazionale per la calzatura, pelletteria e accessori di volume, riposiziona le date della 94.ma edizione a gennaio 2021, dal 16 al 19. “La mutevole situa-

Point of View (22-23 September) presented collections of leathers, synthetics, fabrics, components, and accessories for Fall-Winter 2021-22, setting up one area dedicated to trends and another dedicated to seminars and workshops, while also proposing a Live Streaming Promotion service that offered a ‘first-hand’, though remote, trade fair experience to Chinese, Japanese, and American buyers.

With the physical fairs now over, the events of #strongertogether will continue to keep a digital dialogue open between companies and buyers through applications, smart catalogues, and business portals, like the MICAM Digital Show.

In light of the results of the September edition of these fairs and after speaking with members of the trade, Expo Riva Schuh, the most important international trade fair for volume footwear, leather goods, and accessories repositions the dates of its 94th edition from 16 to 19 January 2021. “The changing international situation has forced multinational companies to put a stop to business travel until December 31st and has caused significant limitations to the issue of visas.

This has forced our company to opt to return to the traditional position within the international trade fair calendar – stated the Chairman of Riva del Garda Fierecongressi, Roberto Pellegrini –with the desire to continue to ensure that exhibitors can meet with their long-standing interlocutors, especially the Europeans, more than 80% of the total, as well as new clients, thanks to the potential offered by the digital world”.

Expo Riva Schuh and Gardabags will be accompanied by a series of “phygital” elements, aimed at reducing the distance and finding alternative solutions for the close-knit network of relationships and exchanges that generally make up part of every trade fair. Like the brand new “Hybrid Stands”, special, personalised, exhibition spaces, which can be shared or rented individually by the companies at the exhibition. The stands will be manned by multilingual, suitably qualified,

staff, whose role will be to take care of the sample collections and manage the negotiations by video conference between the client and the exhibitor. There will then be Prime, a new buyer programme which, by means of a series of online and offline opportunities, will guarantee access to a matching platform, digital routes, events, previews and exclusive services.

Finally, to facilitate participation in the fair for exhibiting companies and buyers, Riva del Garda Fierecongressi has drawn up special agreements with consultancy companies specialised in financing for businesses and also with agencies for promotion abroad and internationalisation, to provide all those involved in the exhibition with clear and precise indications as to how to access special funding and obtain economic incentives or simplify expatriation procedures.

The revolutionary innovation of Trex® Spikeless Traction Device is the result of spikeless traction technology. Michelin used Michelin X-Ice winter driving tires as the inspiration in designing the sole and compound, guaranteeing maximum grip and traction even without traditional spiked cleats, while combining the performance of an outdoor sole with the performance of those destined for indoor use, thereby avoiding the need to constantly “take off and put on”, which is obligatory for shoes fitted with cleats.

The main features of Trex® Spikeless Traction Device include excellent distribution of pressure through micro-pumps, which maintain a high level

of adherence with the surface, while increasing traction on icy surfaces. The “block sipings” design of the tread creates additional surface area for guaranteeing an increased grip on snowy surfaces. Strategically placed grooves allow for efficient water evacuation upon contact with wet surfaces. Not a lot of people know that certain kinds of thermoplastics are used in the food and healthcare industries, because of their antibacterial power. To prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus, also the hygiene of our shoes plays a role of primary importance: here is what should be done for our own safety and that of our home

Se abbiamo imparato a proteggerci dal Covid-19 indossando la mascherina e lavando di frequente le mani, spesso non ci rendiamo conto che esiste un altro vettore di trasmissione del virus: le nostre scarpe. Sia la tomaia che la suola, infatti, possono venire a contatto con il virus tramite goccioline in sospensione nell’aria o depositate nel terreno che calpestiamo. Gli studi dimostrano infatti che basta uno starnuto per diffondere il virus in un’area fino a 4 metri, abbastanza per essere intercettato dalle nostre scarpe e poi diffuso altrove.

E’ indispensabile quindi per la nostra sicurezza seguire dei facili accorgimenti per mitigare la possibilità di contagio e per evitare di portare a casa il virus.

Il primo consiglio è quello di tenere le scarpe fuori dalla nostra casa: in molte culture questa è già un’abitudine quotidiana, come ad esempio nei paesi

If we learned to protect ourselves from Covid-19 by wearing a mask and frequently washing our hands, often we do not realize that there is another carrier that can transmit the virus: our shoes. Both the upper and sole, in fact, can come into contact with the virus through droplets suspended in the air or deposited on the ground that we then walk over. Studies in fact demonstrate how a sneeze can spread the virus up to 4 meters away, which is enough to be intercepted by our shoes and then spread elsewhere.

For our safety, it is accordingly essential to follow an easy set of rules, which will help prevent possible infection from the virus and stop us from bringing it home with us.

The first recommendation is to keep our shoes outside of our homes: in many cultures this is already a daily habit, like for example in Scandinavian countries and Asia. Covid or no Covid, since the soles of our shoes can in any case be carriers of bacteria and other germs, it is a good habit to follow above all if you have children in the home who crawl or play around on the ground. It is accordingly ideal to leave your shoes outside of the door or place them in a semi-closed shoe rack, which is even better if it is positioned outside of the house (on a balcony or terrace).

If you are unable to go without wearing shoes in your home, then you need to adopt a specific pair exclusively for use when you are indoors, and another for when you go out.

It’s also important to avoid the habit of closing doors with your foot, maybe when your hands are filled with shopping bags, so that you avoid transferring infective agents to the surface. A pair of shoes that are easily taken off could be the ideal solution for exiting from this impasse. Slippers like flipflops can be useful: they are easily taken off, leaving you free to manoeuvre.

Finally, it is essential to constantly keep your shoes clean: while not all shoes

Covid o non, visto che le suole delle nostre scarpe possono comunque essere veicolo di batteri e altri germi, è una buona abitudine da acquisire, soprattutto se si hanno bambini in casa che gattonano o giocano per terra. L’ideale è quindi lasciare le scarpe fuori dalla porta o riporle in una scarpiera chiusa, meglio se all’esterno (sul balcone o in terrazzo).

E se proprio non si può fare a meno di calzare le scarpe anche in casa, allora è necessario adottare un paio esclusivamente per quando siamo all’interno, e altri solo per quando usciamo.

Da evitare è anche l’abitudine di chiudere la porta di casa con un calcetto, magari quando avete le mani occupate con le borse della spesa, per evitare di trasferire agenti infetti sulla sua superficie. Un paio di scarpe comode da scalzare può essere la soluzione per uscire dall’impasse. Le slipper come anche i flip flop possono essere d’aiuto: si tolgono facilmente, lasciandovi liberi di manovrare.

Infine, è essenziale una pulizia costante: mentre non tutte le scarpe possono essere messe in lavatrice e poi asciugate al sole (che ha un effetto anti-batterico), ci sono prodotti che aiutano a garantire una corretta igiene. Si possono utilizzare olii essenziali che hanno delle buone proprietà antibatteriche, oppure si può strofinare le scarpe con una soluzione di alcol denaturato per una disinfezione rapida. Per l’interno della scarpa, invece, è preferibile invece un mix di acqua e candeggina. Il mercato mette poi a disposizione molte marche di prodotti specifici per la sanitarizzazione della scarpa (da Scholl a Citrosil, Amuchina, Sanytol, VMD...), spray igienizzanti che eliminano del tutto virus e batteri: prima di entrare in casa, applicateli sulla scarpa dopo aver eliminato i detriti e la polvere sia dalla tomaia che dalla suola.

E ricordate: la sicurezza comincia dalle nostre scarpe.

It’s possible to use essential oils that have good antibacterial properties, or you can rub the shoes with a denatured alcohol solution for rapid disinfection. For the inside of the shoe, instead, it is preferrable to use a mix of water and bleach. The market has made many brands of specific products available for sanitizing shoes (from Scholl to Citrosil, Amuchina, Sanytol, VMD...), along with antibacterial sprays for completely eliminating viruses and bacteria: before going into your home, apply them to your shoe after having removed any debris or dust from both the upper and sole.

And remember, safety starts from our shoes.

due anni dal lancio sul mercato, la nuova “FORMULA” conferma le sue grandi potenzialità. Non si tratta di un semplice restyling, ma di un nuovo progetto nato per soddisfare le esigenze presenti e future di un’industria calzaturiera in fase di grandi trasformazioni.

Il pensiero di Stemma, espresso dall’ing. Pellizzari, CEO dell’azienda veneta, è che un impianto deve assicurare la massima efficienza produttiva al mercato attuale, ma anche essere in grado di restare al passo con i cambiamenti che possiamo aspettarci nei prossimi 5, 10, 20 anni. The belief of Stemma, expressed by engineer Pellizzari, CEO of this Veneto company, is that a machine must be able to ensure maximum productive efficiency to today’s market, while also keeping pace with the changes we can expect to see over the next 5, 10, 20 years. It must be able to work and interact with increasingly evolved structures, with which it exchanges and receives instructions and information.

After many years, having a new platform was of the utmost importance, a different setup created for a generation of machines suited to traditional mono- and bi-density productions (PU, PU/PU, TPU/PU), new processes (“in-mould coating”, TPU films, 3 or more density-moulding), and future ones, which today are being developed and tested by leading brands and producers of polyurethane in their research centres. Quali effetti ha avuto l'avvento della pandemia sul settore della sicurezza?

COVID-19 richiederà a tutte le aziende di riflettere sul modo in cui fanno business per proteggere i dipendenti e mantenere le operazioni.

Pertanto, sono più importanti che mai solidi piani di prevenzione e protezione. Le aziende del settore della sicurezza rilevano la necessità di una forte richiesta di piani di azione e nuovi concetti e avranno un ruolo prezioso da svolgere quando tutto

tornerà alla normalità e torneremo tutti al lavoro. Poi naturalmente è aumentata la richiesta di concept di sicurezza IT, dal momento che un numero crescente di persone lavora da casa. La maggiore attenzione alla salute e all'igiene ha avuto ripercussioni positive sul settore della sicurezza?

Quali sono le aree del settore sicurezza in maggiore sviluppo?

A causa della pandemia da Corona virus è ovviamente aumentata la consapevolezza sulla necessità di dispositivi di protezione individuale.

I produttori di DPI stanno assistendo ad un forte increment della domanda di prodotti come mascherine usa e getta ma anche protezioni per occhi e testa, come ad esempio elmetti di sicurezza che possono essere integrati con occhiali e visiere. Così come sono aumentate le richieste

di barriere e coni di segnalazione per evidenziare e mantenere le distanze fisiche di sicurezza. Molte aziende hanno aumentato la loro capacità di produzione a livello globale e introdotto nuovi prodotti nell’ambito della loro gamma.

Dopo la cancellazione o il rinvio delle date di vari appuntamenti fieristici, come si presenta oggi il panorama delle fiere della sicurezza e quale ruolo pensa che dovrebbero svolgere le fiere stesse?

Le fiere di sicurezza e protezione, proprio come altre fiere, troveranno un modo per affrontare la situazione attuale. Tuttavia, COVID-19 ha evidenziato l'importanza di DPI corretti e appropriati, non solo nella nostra vita quotidiana, ma anche sul posto di lavoro. Così come è ormai evidente l’importanza di fare investimenti e concept mirati per aumentare la sicurezza di tutte le persone presenti sul posto di lavoro e per poter proseguire l’attività in caso

di lockdown e situazioni di crisi. La sicurezza sarà sempre più importante sul posto di lavoro. Inoltre, l'incremento dello smart working ha accelerato la digitalizzazione del lavoro, ma d'altra parte è cambiato anche il modo stesso di lavorare e lo stress psicologico sui dipendenti. In questo contesto, le fiere di sicurezza e protezione, e in particolare A + A, giocano un ruolo sempre più importante perché offrono alle aziende la possibilità di fare rete tra loro, ma anche con autorità e istituzioni e soprattutto di presentare le proprie istanze ai vertici decisionali. Il networking internazionale sarà sempre più importante per reagire molto rapidamente e in modo specifico alle esigenze locali e internazionali.

Come vi state organizzando per la prossima edizione di A+A? Gli espositori possono fare domanda per A + A 2021 a partire da maggio e siamo più che soddisfatti

The director emphasizes the importance for every company to have solid prevention and protection plans, also in the field of IT-security and the key role of A + A for international networking, essential for reacting quickly to change.

What effects has the advent of the pandemic had on the security sector?

COVID-19 will require all companies to put some thoughts in the way they do business to protect employees and to maintain operations. Therefore, solid prevention and protections plans are more important than ever.

Companies of the security sector notice a great demand for plans and concepts and they will have a valuable role to play when we all return to work. In addition, the need for IT security concepts has of course increased since more and more employees are working from home.

Nevertheless, the situation in the companies of the safety and security sector is quite heterogeneous. Manufacturers of articles that are in particularly high demand during the pandemic period are looking positively on the current financial year. Other companies, on the other hand, are reporting a challenging business situation.

Has the increased attention to health and hygiene had positive repercussions on the safety sector? What are the areas of safety in greater development?

Due to the corona pandemia the awareness of personal protective equipment has obviously increased. PPE manufacturers are seeing a major demand for products related to COVID-19 – such as disposable masks but also eye and head protection for example safety helmets that can integrate with spectacles and visors. But also barriers and cones to mark and keep the physical distance have been requested.

Many companies have increased their manufacturing capabilities globally and introduced new products into their range.

After the cancellation or the postponement of the dates of various safety fairs, what does the safety fair panorama look like today? What role do you think security fairs should play today?

The safety and security fairs, just like other fairs, will find a way to deal with the current situation. However, COVID-19 has highlighted the importance of correct and appropriate PPE, not only in our everyday lives, but also in the workplace. Furthermore, we see how important targeted investments and concepts are to increase everyone‘s safety at work and to be able to continue operating throughout lockdowns and crisis situations. Safety will be even more prominent within the workplace.

Furthermore, the increase of remote work has accelerated the digitalization of labor, but on the other hand, the way of working itself and the psychological stress on the employees has changed as well. In this context, safety and security trade fairs and especially A+A play an increasingly important role. We offer manufacturers the opportu-

How are you organizing for the next edition of your event?

Exhibitors can apply for A+A 2021 as of May and we are more than satisfied with the number of registrations so far.

We will be planning the live event under consideration of the existing situation and regulations like distancing rules.

Messe Düsseldorf is closely monitoring current developments and is in direct contact with authorities.

Of course, none of us can foresee the development, which makes planning more difficult and different than before.

Messe Düsseldorf has worked out a hygiene and infection protection concept based on the current Corona Protection Ordinance of the federal state of NRW with a view to above all ensuring observance of amongst others the required health precautions, hygiene measures and distancing rules at all forthcoming events at the homebase Düsseldorf.

This includes both measures for headcount and space management as well as hygiene, technical and organisational measures provided by the federal state government for holding congresses and trade fairs. The hygiene and infection protection standards are constantly adapted to future developments and changing legal requirements. Messe Düsseldorf staff and security personnel will ensure that these measures are observed. Only recently, Messe Düsseldorf has proven with CARAVAN SALON that successful and safe trade fairs can be held and organised even under corona conditions.

La piattaforma francese dedicata alla prevenzione e gestione dei rischi dopo aver cancellato l'edizione di novembre causa Covid, guarda al futuro con due appuntamenti nel prossimo biennio e mantenendo il contatto con il suo pubblico: ne parliamo con il direttore Jean-François Sol Dourdin Exporpotection ha dovuto cancellare l'incontro di novembre 2020 con il settore della sicurezza: quali saranno i prossimi appuntamenti e quali i contenuti?

“Per quanto attiene l'area di Health & Safety at Work di Expoprotection le prossime date saranno a novembre 2022. Avremo una sessione nel 2021, ma solo dedicata ai settori Sicurezza e Fuoco di Expoprotection”.

Nel 2021 Exporpotection si terrà un mese prima dell'appuntamento con A+A: non ritiene che questo possa frammentare la partecipazione agli eventi?

“No, visto quanto detto sopra, Expoprotection Security 2021 non si focalizzerà sugli stessi temi di A+A. Così non ci sarà competizione”.

Alcuni dei nostri espositori sono riusciti a far crescere il loro business dato che riforniscono attrezzature per la protezione sanitaria come maschere, occhiali, guanti, dispositivi per la sanificazione dell'aria. E abbiamo anche visto numerosi innovativi prodotti sviluppati per aiutare le organizzazione a prevenire al meglio la contaminazione e proteggere i loro impiegati e visitatori. Tuttavia, la maggior parte delle aziende sta ovviamente

The French platform dedicated to risk prevention and management, after having cancelled the November edition because of the Covid pandemic, looks to the future with two events to be held in the next two-year period, while maintaining contact with its public: we spoke of this with director Expoprotection had to cancel the November 2020 appointment with the security industry: what will be the next events and what will be their content?

“Regarding the Health & Safety at Work area of Expoprotection the next dates will be November 2022. We will have a 2021 session but only dedicated to the Security and Fire sections of Expoprotection”.

In 2021, Expoprotection will be held one month before the appointment with A + A: aren’t you afraid this might disrupt participation in the events?

“No, as mentioned above, Expoprotection Security 2021 will not be focusing on the same topics as A+A. So no competition”.

Meanwhile, what feedback are you getting from the security market in this complex situation caused by the pandemic?

“Obviously the feedback is diverse since Expoprotection covers a wide range of specific segments of risk prevention and management. Some of our exhibitors have even managed to grow their business since they are supplying equipment for health protection like masks, goggles, gloves, air treatment devices, etc… And we also have seen numerous innovative products being developed in order to help organisations better prevent contamination and protect their employees and visitors. Nevertheless, the majority of companies is obviously suffering from the global economic impact of the crisis and the downturn faced in many segments of the economy including building, industry, local communities where safety invest-

ments may be postponed or reduced whenever possible. As a result, I can see many companies facing cash shortage. At the same time, they are clearly looking for powerful means to get in contact with potential clients: this is why more than 70% of our 2020 exhibitors have already confirmed their participation to Expoprotection Security 2021 and Expoprotection 2022”.

How are you maintaining the relationship with your public in this period?

“It is clear that, following the cancellation of so many trade shows in 2021, we have seen numerous digital initiatives flourish on the internet, motivated by a sense of urgency and the idea of « maintaining the relationship » with the audience. But it ended up rapidly with a kind of saturation and the results are not always there in terms of audience numbers and engagement. We rather think that, if digital is undoubtedly a clear priority (but it already was before the Covid crisis) we need to focus on clear value added propositions. This is what we will try to stick to, starting in 2021. In the meantime, we are still in permanent touch with the 50,000 readers of our weekly newsletters, issued by Infoprotection, our permanent news platform”.

La direttrice della fiera della sicurezza di Madrid sottolinea come la pandemia abbia accelerato la crescita dell’importanza della cyber-sicurezza e ci parla della prossima edizione di Sicur nel 2022.

Che effetto ha avuto l'avvento della pandemia sul settore della sicurezza?

Il ruolo dei professionisti della sicurezza sia nel settore pubblico - attraverso le Forze di sicurezza nazionali e l'esercito -, sia nel settore privato attraverso le aziende di sicurezza, è stato fondamentale nella lotta alla pandemia, collaborando ai compiti più delicati, controllando il rispetto delle normative e stabilendo l'applicazione dei protocolli antiCOVID. Le aziende di sicurezza erano pronte a rispondere alla situazione che si è venuta a creare con la tecnologia, ad esempio con soluzioni per il controllo della capacità o la misurazione della temperature corporea, e con risorse umane pronte ad attuare i nuovi protocolli di sicurezza, quindi il loro contributo a questa crisi sanitaria è stato piuttosto rilevante.

D’altra parte, con l'accelerazione della trasformazione digitale indotta dalla pandemia, l'area della cyber-sicurezza è diventata particolarmente rilevante ed è un campo che continuerà a svilupparsi e in grado di fornire risposte efficaci alle situazio-

ni critiche che si potranno venire a creare.

Il fatto che oggi si presti maggiore attenzione alla salute e all'igiene ha avuto effetti positivi sul settore della sicurezza? È emersa una nuova area di specializzazione legata alla biosicurezza e le aziende, sempre alla ricerca di opportunità in tempi di crisi, hanno saputo individuarle e volgerle a favore del proprio sviluppo. L'industria della sicurezza tocca tutti i settori dell'economia e questa vicinanza con i vari ambienti e situazioni può anche contribuire notevolmente alla biosicurezza.

Confidiamo che presto avremo una situazione sanitaria favorevole a riportare tutti gli eventi in presenza, fondamentali per dare impulso a questo importante settore.

Quale ruolo ritiene che dovrebbero avere oggi le fiere della sicurezza?

Credo che l’obiettivo principale delle fiere come SICUR sia l'opportunità di offrire e sviluppare incontri e relazioni interpersonali tra espositori e visitatori specializzati, incentrati sul business. La fiera è, inoltre, un’importante occasione di informazione che offre agli operatori di settore la possibilità di scoprire le novità e le tendenze del mercato, aggiornare le proprie conoscenze rilevanti per l'avanzamento professionale, condividere esperienze, tenere sotto osservazione la concorrenza, acquisire nuovi contatti e seguire i propri clienti. È, inoltre, un luogo dove nascono nuove opportunità e dove ci si può sentire parte di un settore così ampio, rilevante per la libertà e il benessere della società quale è quello della sicurezza.

Come sta procedendo l’organizzazione della prossima edizione di Sicur?

La prossima edizione di SICUR si terrà nel 2022 e siamo ancora in fase di ideazione del progetto, quindi non posso dire molto. Sarà un appuntamento in presenza, supportato però da un potente strumento complementare digitale. L’obiettivo è di essere il grande e primario evento che Sicur è sempre stato nel corso del tempo, edizione dopo edizione, grazie alla collaborazione e al sostegno che ha sempre avuto da parte dell’industria e del settore.

The director of the security fair of Madrid underlines how the pandemic has accelerated the growth of importance of cyber security and tells us about the next edition of Sicur in 2022.

What effect did the advent of the pandemic have on the security sector?

The role of security professionals both in the public sector, through the National Security Forces and the army, and in the private sector, through security companies, has been critical in fighting the pandemic, collaborating in the most delicate tasks, controlling regulation compliance and establishing and enforcing anti-COVID protocols.

Security companies were ready to respond to the situation with technology, for example, with solutions to control capacity or temperature-taking, and with human resources ready to implement the new safety protocols, therefore their contribution to this health crisis was quite relevant.

On the other hand, with the acceleration of the digital transformation brought about by the pandemic, the cybersecurity area has become especially relevant and it is a field that will continue to develop responses to new risks.

Has the fact of paying more attention to health and hygiene had positive effects on the security sector?

A new speciality area has emerged related to biosecurity, and companies, who are always looking for opportunities in times of crises, have been able to identify them for their development. The security industry touches all sectors of the economy and this proximity with the various environments and situations can also contribute greatly towards biosecurity.

Which security areas are growing the most?

As I said earlier, I believe that everything that pertains to the digital transformation that we are seeing in all sectors of the economy is a reason for development. Cybersecurity is especially important in this area, but also the application

of emerging technologies to the security field, such as the Internet of Things, which has been present in different solutions but will be much more relevant with 5G, or the huge potential of Artificial Intelligence in this field.

After the cancellation or postponement of several security trade fairs, what is the current outlook for security fairs?

We held SICUR special COVID at Ifema, a hybrid fair created to cover the needs of Spanish companies facing the COVID scenario, and in 2022 we will hold our SICUR trade fair, which has always been held in February on the even years. It will be an in-person format and it will have a powerful online platform that will strengthen its effectiveness and will allow exhibitors and visitors to optimise their participation in the event. We trust that we will soon have a healthcare situation that is favourable to bringing back all of the in-person events that contribute so much to boosting this important industry.

What role do you think security trade fairs should have now?

I believe that the main purpose of trade fairs such as SICUR is the opportunity that they afford to promote in-person meetings, between exhibitors and trade visitors, focusing on business. The trade fair gives some people a chance to inform on, and others the chance to discover, the market news and trends, update relevant knowledge for professional advancement, share experiences, observe the competition, acquire new contacts and take care of regular clients, in addition to being right where opportunities arise, and to feel part of an industry that is so large, important and essential to society's freedom and wellbeing as is security.

How is the organisation going for the next edition of your event?

The next edition of SICUR will be held in 2022 and we are still in the project design stage, so I can't say much, beyond that it will be in-person, it will also have a powerful complementary online tool, and it aims to be the major event that SICUR has always been, edition after edition, thanks to the industry collaboration and backing that it has always had.

Visto l’aggravarsi della situazione epidemiologica, l'edizione di dicembre si terrà solo in formato digitale: intanto, con la Dr.sa Pavarelli facciamo il punto sul settore con i feedback raccolti dagli operatori della manifestazione Alla luce del nuovo DPCM che per ora sospende gli eventi fieristici, pensate di cancellare l'evento di dicembre?

Se sì, quali saranno le prossime date e contenuti?

“A seguito del DPCM del 25 ottobre, e in virtù del quadro epidemiologico col quale ci troviamo a convivere, purtroppo non ci sono le condizioni per procedere con una manifestazione fieristica.

Ambiente Lavoro avrà luogo perciò nella sola versione online, nelle stesse date, dal 1 al 3 dicembre pv.

Questo con la volontà di non fare mancare al nostro pubblico il momento di confronto e approfondimento che Ambiente Lavoro ha sempre garantito agli addetti ai lavori. Oggi ancora più che in passato crediamo che informazione e formazione per la sicurezza sul lavoro siano elementi irrinunciabili”.

Quali sono i feedback del mercato della sicurezza che vi arrivano in que-

sto complesso momento segnato dalla pandemia?

“Il generale clima di preoccupazione rispetto la fase delicatissima che stiamo attraversando è un elemento che ritroviamo sia tra le aziende del settore sia tra gli addetti ai lavori. Prevale però su questa condivisibile preoccupazione la consapevolezza che potremo uscire da questo frangente molto complesso grazie alle soluzioni che il comparto produttivo offre e alle competenze dei professionisti del settore. Per chi si muove nel contesto di prevenzione malattie ed infortuni professionali questo momento, seppure nella sua eccezionalità, non è completamente estraneo al proprio operare quotidiano.

Far sì, ciascuno con le proprie competenze e nelle proprie possibilità, che nessuno si ammali o addirittura muoia al lavoro, fa parte del DNA di chi ad Ambiente Lavoro ha sempre trovato una casa. Oggi, si aggiunge a questo atteggiamento la consapevolezza che anche dal loro operato passa la possi-

bilità per il nostro Paese di reggere ad una crisi come questa, al contempo sanitaria ed economica”.

In attesa della prossima edizione in presenza, attraverso quali canali pensate di mantenere il rapporto con il vostro pubblico?

“Consideriamo la versione online della manifestazione come un rafforzamento delle attività digitali che hanno sempre accompagnato Ambiente Lavoro.

In quest’ottica, lasceremo che la versione digitale della fiera resti attiva anche nelle settimane successive all’evento in diretta, previsto dal 1. al 3 dicembre.

Questo per fare in modo che i contenuti dell’evento, sia sul fronte delle iniziative formative che di prodotti e servizi presentati dagli sponsor, restino a disposizione di tutti coloro che utilizzano Ambiente Lavoro come strumento di informazione e aggiornamento professionale”.

If so, for when will you reschedule it and what will its contents be?

“Following the Prime Ministerial Decree of 25 October, and in virtue of the epidemiological context we are now once again facing, unfortunately we do not have the right conditions needed to hold a trade fair event. Ambiente Lavoro will be held only in an online version, on the same dates, from 1 to 3 December.

Our aim is to ensure our public does not have to miss out on the chance to interact with one another and exchange information, which Ambiente Lavoro has always guaranteed to members of the trade. Now, more than ever before in the past, we believe that information and training for on-the-job safety are essential elements”.

In this complex moment affected by the pandemic, what is the feedback you are receiving from the safety market?

“The general climate of concern during this extremely delicate phase we are going through is an element that we find among sector companies and members of the trade. Prevailing, however, over this shared concern is the awareness that we can get out of this extremely tight spot thanks to the solutions offered by the productive segment and the expertise of sector professionals. For those working in the field of preventing occupational injuries and illnesses, this moment, even in its exceptionality, is not completely foreign to their daily activities. Using individual expertise to the maximum extent possible to ensure no one gets sick or even dies on the job is part of the DNA with which Ambiente Lavoro has always felt at home. Today, this attitude is joined by the awareness that it is also through the work of these

individuals that our country will be able to withstand a crisis like this one, which is both healthcare and economically-related at the same time”.

While awaiting the next physical edition of the event, through which channels do you think you will continue to interact with your public?

“We consider the online version of the event as a reinforcement of the digital activities that have always accompanied Ambiente Lavoro.

With this in mind, we will allow the digital version of the fair to remain active also in the weeks following the live event, scheduled from 1 to 3 December.

This will allow the contents of the event, in terms of both educational initiatives and products and services presented by sponsors, to remain available to all those who use Ambiente Lavoro as a tool for gathering information and professional updating”.
