Uno slalom fra l’impensabile, ovvero ‘potrebbe piovere’ di Roberto Pellegrini Presidente Fierecongressi Riva del Garda

icorderete tutti la celebre battuta del film di Mel Brooks: “Cosa potrebbe accadere di peggio? Potrebbe piovere”. A chi non è tornata in mente allo scoppio della guerra in Ucraina. Lo dico non per ristagnare nei rivoli di preoccupazione, tristezza, e a tratti paura, o per rilanciare luoghi comuni in cui a tutti è probabilmente capitato di inciampare. Lo dico perché sono orgoglioso di come molti imprenditori stiano reagendo alle continue avversità: con coraggio, generosità e ingegno.

Perché sono fiero di come l’organizzazione di Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags stia affrontando gli ostacoli con spirito propositivo, per offrire, ancora una volta, una piattaforma di business capace di cogliere i segnali di ripresa del mercato (vedi, nelle prossime pagine, il punto di alcune delle più importanti associazioni di settore). Abbiamo investito nelle potenzialità dell’evento accogliendo fra le nostre fila nuove professionalità destinate a consolidarsi con quelle già esistenti e innovando i servizi per buyer ed espositori con il Business Scout, gli stand ibridi, e l’Innovation Village (anche di questo trovate articoli dedicati più avanti nel numero). Lavoriamo convinti che le sfide dei prossimi mesi e anni debbano essere vinte con visioni di lungo periodo, ricerca e sviluppo di nuove soluzioni.

E mentre in questo numero ancora scandagliamo il prossimo Autunno Inverno 2022/23, sveliamo i futuri trend economici e stilistici, rifacendoci anche ad arte e design, ci prepariamo per l’Estate che si aprirà, come di consueto, con l’appuntamento a Riva del Garda dal 11 al 14 giugno.

A slalom through the unthinkable, or ‘it could be raining’ We all remember the famous line from the Mel Brooks film: “Could be worse. How? Could be raining.” Who hasn’t thought about this when the war in Ukraine broke out? I say this not to harp on things that make us worry, sad and scared, or to bring up cliches that everyone has probably heard before. I say this because I am proud of how many entrepreneurs are reacting to constant adversity: with courage, generosity and resourcefulness. Because I am proud of how the organisation of Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags is tackling the obstacles with a proactive spirit, in order to once again offer a business platform capable of grasping the signs of a market recovery (see the opinions of some of the most important trade associations on the following pages). We have invested in the event’s potential by welcoming among our ranks new professionals destined to consolidate with those already existing, and by innovating services for buyers and exhibitors with the Business Scout, hybrid stands and the Innovation Village (you will also find articles dedicated to this theme later on in this issue). We work with the conviction that the challenges of the coming months and years must be overcome with longterm visions, research and the development of new solutions.

And while in this issue we are still sounding out the upcoming Autumn/Winter 2022/23, unveiling future economic and style trends, also referring to art and design, we are also preparing for the Summer that will open, as usual, with the appointment in Riva del Garda from 11 to 14 June 2022. The slalom through the most unthinkable adversities will not stop us from crossing the finishing line.

La fiera internazionale di riferimento per la calzatura di volume, completata nella sua offerta dal Salone dedicato a pelletteria e accessori, punta con decisione su una forte partecipazione internazionale, con la presenza di espositori provenienti da Paesi europei ed extra europei come Turchia, India, Brasile, Indonesia, Iran, Pakistan, Egitto, Nigeria, Regno Unito, Germania, Spagna, Portogallo, Polonia, oltre alla partecipazione delle aziende italiane. Confermato anche il coinvolgimento delle aziende cinesi, sia in presenza, sia in modalità ibrida (40 hybrid service confermati).

La fiera di riferimento per la calzatura di volume - completata dall'hub dedicato a pelletteria e accessori torna protagonista da sabato 11 a martedì 14 giugno 2022 con un’edizione che mira a rafforzarne ancora di più il carattere internazionale attraverso attività di hybrid service, incoming foreign buyer e business scout.

Dopo il successo del gennaio scorso, torna l’esclusivo servizio di stand management ‘Hybrid Service’, che combina in modo ottimale uno spazio espositivo (dove sono esposti i veri e propri campionari) in fiera con il coordinamento della partecipazione a distanza dei rappresentanti il brand tramite piattaforma digitale, grazie al supporto di personale qualificato e formato dall’ente fieristico. Un servizio che permette, anche in un momento complesso come quello attuale, ancora affetto dalla pandemia, di coinvolgere nell’edizione di giugno 40 aziende cinesi (erano 10 gli stand ibridi a gennaio 2022).

Innovation Village Retail Confermato anche per l’edizione di giugno il villaggio tematico dedicato alle anteprime delle innovazioni per il settore della calzatura e dell’accessorio, con i progetti proposti dalle startup e dalle giovani imprese. Tema di questa, e dell’edizione di gennaio 2023, sarà la tracciabilità di prodotto, focus anche del programma di eventi che accompagnerà i quattro giorni di manifestazione con interviste, round table, presentazioni e talks. Innovation Village non è, però, solo un’area espositiva, ma anche occasione di pitch da parte di 10 selezionate startup, che

avranno l’opportunità di raccontare il proprio prodotto/ servizio di fronte al pubblico in fiera e a una giuria di esperti, che decreterà tra queste la vincitrice del contest Startup Competition.

NOVITÀ - Incoming Foreign Buyers Con la collaborazione di ITA - Italian Trade Agency -, Expo Riva Schuh mira a rafforzare il matching domandaofferta con l’incoming di 130 buyers provenienti da oltre 25 Paesi stranieri.

NOVITÀ - Business Scout Al via, per la prima volta, il servizio di business scout riservato alle delegazioni ufficiali e agli hosted buyers presenti in fiera: un servizio di assistenza personalizzata, un servizio concierge in fiera, svolto da personale debitamente formato, che aiuterà i buyer nella ricerca di prodotti o aziende di proprio interesse.

Sostenibilità Il tema della sostenibilità resta al centro delle azioni di Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags (sede certificata per eventi sostenibili UNI ISO 20121), trattato anche nell’ambito di diversi appuntamenti del programma eventi, sotto il coordinamento del Comitato Scientifico di Expo Riva Schuh, e in particolare di William Wong - Member in Charge of Sustainability.

Kind Leather Contest In accordo con i propri valori, JBS Couros - in collaborazione con Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags, Fotoshoe Magazine e Arsutoria School - ha deciso di promuovere l’iniziativa Design Kind Leather, un concorso destinato ai professionisti creativi del mondo della moda, i cui vincitori saranno premiati durante la manifestazione. L’obiettivo è quello di stabilire un appuntamento annuale con stilisti e produttori di calzature e borse dedicato ai valori fondamentali di Kind Leather: sostenibilità, riuso dei materiali e migliore gestione delle risorse: bit.ly/klc22.

Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags: driven by internationalisation The fair of reference for volume footwear - completed by the hub dedicated to leather goods and accessories - returns as the protagonist from Saturday 11 to Tuesday 14 June 2022 with an edition that aims to reinforce the international character of the fair through activities that include hybrid services, incoming services for foreign buyers, and business scouting.

In person and in complete safety, while returning with numbers that are increasingly close to the pre-pandemic period, is Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags, on show at Riva del Garda from Saturday 11 to Tuesday 14 June 2022. The international fair of reference for volume footwear, completed by the Show dedicated to leather goods and accessories, is clearly focused on encouraging strong international participation, with the presence of exhibitors coming from European and non-EU countries like Turkey, India, Brazil, Indonesia, Iran, Pakistan, Egypt, Nigeria, United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Portugal, and Poland, in addition to the participation of Italian companies. Likewise confirmed is the presence of Chinese companies, attending both in-person and using the new hybrid stand service (with 40 hybrid services confirmed).

NEW - Incoming Foreign Buyers With the collaboration of the ITA - Italian Trade Agency -, Expo Riva Schuh aims to reinforce the matching between supply and demand with an incoming of 130 buyers coming from over 25 foreign countries.

NEW - Business Scout Being launched for the first time is the Business Scout service reserved for official delegations and hosted buyers present at the fair: a personalised counselling service, a sort of ‘concierge’ service undertaken by specialised personnel, who will assist buyers in their search for certain products or companies of interest.

Hybrid Service After the success of last January, returning is the exclusive ‘Hybrid Service’ for stand management, which perfectly combines an exhibition space at the fair (where the real collections are present) with remote participation of the brand managers coordinated through a digital platform, thanks to the support of qualified personnel who have received specialized training by the trade fair’s managing body. A service that allows, also during a complex moment like the current one, which is still subject to the effects of the pandemic, 40 Chinese companies to be involved in the June edition (compared to the 10 hybrid stands present at the January 2022 edition).

Innovation Village Retail Confirmed also for the June edition is the themed village dedicated to previews of innovation in the footwear and accessory industry, with projects proposed by start-ups and young businesses. The theme of this edition and the January 2023 edition will be product traceability, representing the focus of the programme of events that will accompany the four days of the fair with interviews, round tables, presentations, and talks.

Innovation Village is not just an exhibition area, however, but also an opportunity for pitches by the 10 selected start-ups, who will have the chance to present their product/service before the fair’s public and a jury of experts, who will then select and announce the winner of the Startup Competition contest.

The theme of sustainability remains at the centre of the actions of Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags (a UNI ISO 20121 certified location for sustainable events), which is dealt with also in various events of the programme, under the coordination of the Expo Riva Schuh Scientific Committee, and especially William Wong - Member in Charge of Sustainability.

Kind Leather Contest In accordance with its own values, JBS Couros - in collaboration with Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags, Fotoshoe Magazine and Arsutoria School – has decided to promote the Design Kind Leather initiative, a contest destined for creative professionals in the world of fashion, with the winners to be awarded over the course of the fair. The aim is to establish an annual rendezvous with stylists and producers of shoes and bags dedicated to the fundamental values of Kind Leather: sustainability, reuse of materials, and better management of resources: bit.ly/klc22.

’innovazione è di nuovo grande protagonista di Expo Riva Schuh, con la conferma anche per l’edizione di giugno del Salone dell’Innovation Village, il ‘villaggio’ aperto a startup, aziende, istituzioni e professionisti, concepito per condividere la cultura dell’innovazione e creare occasioni di networking e di business tra realtà emergenti e player affermati. Il progetto, realizzato dalla fiera di Riva del Garda, in collaborazione con Blum e Retail Hub, e con il coordinamento scientifico di Alberto Mattiello (membro del Comitato Scientifico di Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags), rappresenta un’occasione importante per espositori e visitatori per conoscere in anteprima le innovazioni dedicate al settore della calzatura e dell’accessorio, grazie ai progetti esposti dalle startup e dalle giovani imprese in uno spazio ‘dedicato’.

Tema approfondito nell’Innovation Village delle edizioni di giugno 2022 e gennaio 2023 sarà, in particolare, quello della tracciabilità di prodotto: i progetti di innovazione presenti in fiera riguarderanno, infatti, i temi legati alla gestione, movimentazione dei prodotti, analisi dei dati di vendita per la strategia, creazione e gestione delle relazioni con i clienti B2B e B2C, comunicazione e trasparenza in relazione al prodotto e al suo processo produttivo. Il tema della tracciabilità sarà anche il focus del programma di eventi che accompagnerà i quattro giorni della manifestazione rivana, con la rassegna di interviste, round table, 14

presentazioni e talks che daranno voce ai protagonisti del mondo della calzatura, della pelletteria e degli accessori.

"Il tema della tracciabilità sarà al centro dell'attività del CS di Expo Riva Schuh e Gardabags – afferma Enrico Cietta - Presidente Comitato Scientifico ERS & GB - perché riteniamo rappresenti la chiave di volta nelle relazioni B2B e conseguentemente con il consumatore finale.

Ci stiamo avviando verso un mondo nel quale sempre di più il prodotto non sarà solo qualità materiale, ma anche valore immateriale, in cui non è importante solo il ‘cosa’ (qualità del prodotto in sé), ma anche il ‘come’ (la catena di fornitura che lo ha prodotto). Questo tema sarà sempre più determinante in futuro, e per questo la fiera - che è un luogo di intermediazione commerciale - intende giocare un ruolo di promotore e facilitatore. Sulla tracciabilità, quindi, lavoreremo su due fronti: da un lato, come rendere perseguibile ed economicamente possibile alle imprese una strategia di tracciabilità, dall’altro, quale ruolo una manifestazione fieristica può giocare per facilitare l'incontro tra fornitori di tecnologie per la tracciabilità e imprese. Su entrambi questi temi i nostri esperti proporranno iniziative e attività, che saranno realizzate nelle prossime manifestazioni di giugno 2022 e gennaio 2023."

Innovation Village: focus on traceability

Confirmed, also for the June edition of Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags, is the ‘village of innovation’, founded with the aim of creating networking and business opportunities between emerging realities and established players.

Innovation is the new leading protagonist of Expo Riva Schuh, confirming also for the June edition of the show the Innovation Village, the ‘village’ open to start-ups, companies, institutions, and professionals, conceived with the aim of sharing the culture of innovation and creating networking and business opportunities between emerging realities and established players. The project, launched by the Riva del Garda fair, in collaboration with Blum and Retail Hub, and with the scientific coordination of Alberto Mattiello (member of the Scientific Committee at Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags), represents an important opportunity for exhibitors and visitors to get a special preview of the innovations dedicated to the footwear and accessory sector, thanks to projects presented by start-ups and young businesses in a ‘dedicated’ area.

The focus of the Innovation Village in the June 2022 and January 2023 editions of the show will be on product traceability: the innovative projects presented at the fair will in fact focus on themes concerning product management, movement, the analysis of sales data for strategies, the creation and management of relations with B2B and B2C customers, and communication and transparency with regards to the product and its productive process. The theme of traceability will also be the

focus of the programme of events that will accompany the four days of the Riva event, with interviews, round tables, presentations, and talks that will give voice to protagonists in the world of footwear, leather goods, and accessories.

"The theme of traceability will be at the centre of the activity of the Expo Riva Schuh and Gardabags scientific committee– confirms Enrico Cietta – President of the ERS & GB Scientific Committee – because we feel that it represents a turning point in B2B relations and accordingly also with the end customer.

We are moving towards a world where the product will increasingly be considered not only in terms of quality material, but also as an immaterial value, where not only the ‘what’ is important (the quality of the product itself), but also the ‘how’ (the supply chain that produced it). This theme will be increasingly decisive in the future, and for this fair – which is a place for commercial brokering – it intends to take on the role of promoter and facilitator. On traceability we will accordingly work on two fronts: from one end, on how to make a traceability strategy achievable and economically feasible for companies; and from the other end, the role the fair can play in facilitating the meeting between suppliers of traceability technology and businesses. On both these themes our experts will propose initiatives and activities, which will be featured in the up-andcoming editions of June 2022 and January 2023”.

Per la prima volta, la fiera internazionale di riferimento per la calzatura di Riva del Garda avvia un servizio di assistenza personalizzata riservato alle delegazioni ufficiali e agli hosted buyer, in un’ottica di rafforzamento dell’incontro domanda-offerta. a sempre fiera internazionale per eccellenza, Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags spinge il piede dell’acceleratore sull’internazionalizzazione potenziando, a partire dalla prossima edizione di giugno, l’attività di incoming dei buyer stranieri, grazie alla collaborazione con Agenzia ITA - Italian Trade Agency. L’obiettivo prefissato è di ricevere, nella tradizionale location rivana, circa 130 buyer provenienti da oltre 25 Paesi esteri.

In un’ottica di rafforzamento del ‘matching’ tra domanda e offerta viene, inoltre, attivato per la prima volta un servizio di Business Scout riservato alle delegazioni ufficiali e agli hosted buyers presenti in fiera.

Si tratta di un servizio di assistenza personalizzata, svolto da personale specializzato, che aiuterà il buyer nella ricerca di prodotti o aziende di loro interesse. In futuro, diventerà un servizio di alto livello dedicato ai visitatori/ buyer interessati e che ne faranno richiesta: permetterà loro di ottimizzare la visita in fiera e le prospettive di business.

The goal is to welcome, to the traditional Rivan location, around 130 buyers coming from over 25 different foreign countries.

In a scope of reinforcing the ‘matching’ between supply and demand, a Business Scout service reserved for official delegations and hosted buyers present at the fair will also be activated for the first time. A personalised counselling service, undertaken by specialised personnel, will assist buyers in their search for certain products or companies that might be of interest to them. In the future, it will become a high-end ‘on-demand’ service dedicated to interested visitors/buyers, allowing them to optimise their visit to the fair and their opportunities for business.

n accordo con i propri valori, JBS Couros, in collaborazione con Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags, la rivista Foto Shoe e Arsutoria School, ha deciso di promuovere il Concorso Design Kind Leather, destinato ai professionisti creativi del mondo della moda.

L’obiettivo è quello di stabilire un appuntamento annuale con stilisti e produttori di calzature e borse dedicato ai valori fondamentali di Kind Leather: sostenibilità, riuso dei materiali e migliore gestione delle risorse.

Dopo l’apertura del concorso e la sottoscrizione dei progetti da parte di numerosi designer di livello internazionale, ora il contest entra nel vivo. Sono stati, infatti, selezionati i 3 progetti più interessanti e di conseguenza i 3 designer finalisti che avranno la possibilità di passare

dalla fase d’ideazione alla realizzazione dei prototipi utilizzando, ovviamente, le pelli Kind Leather.

Il mese di giugno risulterà, quindi, cruciale. Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags, che si terranno dall’11 al 14 giugno, accoglieranno i finalisti e le loro collezioni in un’area espositiva esclusiva, per poi incoronare il vincitore del contest con una cerimonia di premiazione.

Ma chi deciderà il gradino più alto del podio? Il vincitore finale verrà decretato da una giuria composta da 3 riconosciuti professionisti del settore, a cui si aggiungerà il voto della giuria popolare. Tutti potranno votare online il progetto che riterranno migliore e che considereranno abbia interpretato al meglio i valori fondamentali Kind Leather: riuso dei materiali, uso efficiente delle risorse, durabilità.

After the opening of the contest and the signing of projects by many international designers, the project is now getting underway. The 3 most interesting projects have in fact been selected and the 3 finalist designers will have consequently the opportunity to move from the concept phase to the realisation of the prototypes using, of course, Kind Leather hides.

The month of June will therefore be crucial. Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags, which will be held from 11 to 14 June, will welcome the finalists and their collections in an exclusive exhibition area, and then crown the winner of the contest with an awards ceremony. But who will decide the top step of the podium? The final winner will be decided by the vote of 3 leading professionals in the sector added to that of the popular jury.

Everyone will be able to vote online for the project they deem best and which they consider has best interpreted Kind Leather’s core values: reuse of materials, efficient use of resources, designed to last.

Vincenzo Carpentieri (Italia) Laureato nel 2008 in Industrial Design allo IED di Milano, entra subito nel team di industrial design del Centro ricerche IED (CrIed). La sua esperienza professionale spazia dal design di suole alle sneaker fashion/outdoor.

Nel 2014 diventa freelance, ed attualmente lavora come consulente collaborando con brand come Volta, Quicksilver, Tradeport, Kodiak e Merrell, Dickies.

Graduated in 2008 in Industrial Design at the IED in Milan, and immediately joined the industrial design team of the IED Research Centre (CrIed). His professional experience ranges from sole design to fashion/outdoor sneakers. In 2014 he became freelance, and currently works as a consultant collaborating with brands like Volta, Quicksilver, Tradeport, Kodiak and Merrell, Dickies.

Accessories designer and founder of the Indonesian brand Byo. Industrial designer by training, he has been developing modular fabric bags since 2014. Science-fiction imagery and traditional craftsmanship make his stylistic code unique, which blends and sublimates futuristic flair and refined handcrafted geometries.

After developing 9 bag collections designed and hand-woven, he began to use the experience and knowledge of modular systems to develop a more sustainable and circular production model.

Rosaria Torquati is a freelance designer who has been working for the footwear sector since 1990, her professional training is due to specialisation courses, a natural creative talent and a good ability to interact with the client. Quality and sustainability are the key points of the new SH+ART brand founded by Italian designer Mirko Tocchio: a luxury sneaker made in the Marches by the very best Italian artisans with vegan materials, recycled plastics, and an innovative technique that eliminates the use of glue. ‘’The main aim is to demonstrate how sustainability and luxury can go not only hand-in-hand, but that ethical values are fundamental in a maximum concept of exclusivity”. SH+ART sneakers are in fact exclusively realised with cruelty-free materials, substituting animal leather with bio-based alternatives like for example apple, cactus, or bamboo. All the other components are made from recycled biodegradable plastic, and thanks to an innovative technique, the assembly occurs without the use of glue or other solvents that are harmful to the environment.

Finally, the laces in natural jute provide the shoe with an extra special designer touch, in full eco-friendly style. The first sneakers, proposed in two unisex variants, can only be purchased online in a Made-to-order version, so as to guarantee the exclusivity of the shoes and avoid waste connected to leftover materials in production. This will be followed by the presentation of the entire collection.

n marchio con una storia importante alle spalle, creato nel 1992 dalla bresciana Miber di Poncarale (poi andata in liquidazione nel 2016), Keys viene acquistato nel 2019 dal gruppo Asso S.p.A., l’azienda del fermano leader nella produzione di calzature per bambini e proprietaria dei noti brand Asso e Balducci. Fin dalle prime fasi dopo l’acquisizione, Asso ha avviato una radicale strategia di riposizionamento del brand Keys, con l’obiettivo di ‘svecchiarlo’ e renderlo più giovane e accattivante, seppur salvaguardando il patrimonio di conoscenza presso la clientela. Un processo lungo e che ha richiesto molte risorse ed energie, soprattutto se inquadrato in un momento storico così complicato come quello che stiamo vivendo, e che tuttavia oggi sta dando i suoi frutti con in termini di immagine e di vendite. Di questa ‘rinascita’ abbiamo parlato con Paolo Toscani, Sales Manager di Asso Spa. Cominciamo dal nuovo posizionamento di Keys…

Volevamo dare un’immagine più fresca, giovane e trendy del brand, e al contempo puntare su un prodotto ‘from day-to-night’, da indossare in una molteplicità di occasioni e durante l’intero arco della giornata. Abbiamo quindi lavorato a lungo sul prodotto e sulle collezioni, per offrire alla donna una calzatura comoda e versatile, modaiola e di tendenza.

Quali sono le novità che proponete per la stagione AW2022/23?

Abbiamo prima di tutto ampliato la collezione donna, introducendo accanto alle sneakers, che rappresentano il prodotto iconico Keys, anche nuovi modelli più cittadini come ballerine, decolleté e stivaletti a tacco alto per le occasioni più eleganti.

Quali sono le novità nell’ambito della comunicazione?

Dal 2021 abbiamo scelto come testimonial della nostra campagna pubblicitaria la showgirl, conduttrice televisiva ed ex modella Elisabetta Gregoracci, una collaborazione che ci sta dando grandi soddisfazioni perché capace di

incarnare al meglio l’immagine della donna Keys: di classe anche nelle occasioni sportive, giovane e sicura della propria femminilità, senza tuttavia mai essere volgare o sopra le righe. Per il 2022, inoltre, avvieremo un progetto che coinvolgerà una ventina di influencer in tutta Italia per la promozione del brand sui social.

Come ha influenzato l’avvento della pandemia le vostre strategie di sviluppo del brand?

L’avvento della pandemia ci ha portato a rivedere principalmente le tempistiche relative alla presentazione delle collezioni. Abbiamo anticipato di molto l’uscita delle collezioni per agevolare la programmazione della produzione e di conseguenza garantire una consegna nei giusti tempi aiutando le performance in termini di sell out.

Qual è il ruolo delle fiere nel vostro business?

Le fiere sono fondamentali per rafforzare le relazioni con la clientela, oltre che per entrare in contatto con nuovi clienti.

Quali sono i vostri mercati di riferimento?

Il marchio è oggi presente con successo nella piccola distribuzione multimarca italiana (circa il 70% del totale) ed europea, in particolare in paesi come Belgio, Germania, Francia e Spagna. Nel prossimo futuro puntiamo a raggiungere nuovi mercati come il Giappone, dove siamo presenti da anni con il nostro marchio Asso e dove abbiamo ottimi partner.

The relaunching of Keys The ad campaign with Elisabetta Gregoracci, the launching of the new day-to-night models that join the brand’s iconic sneakers, the development of new markets: the new image of Keys is a hit with Italian and international women alike.

A brand backed by an important history. Created in 1992 by the Brescian company Miber in Poncarale (which then went into liquidation in 2016), Keys was subsequently purchased in 2019 by the Asso S.p.A. group from Fermano, which is a leader in the production of footwear for children and owner of wellknown brands like Asso and Balducci. Immediately following its acquisition, Asso set into motion a radical strategy of repositioning the Keys brand, with the aim of ‘rejuvenating it’ and making it more youthful and attractive, while preserving its legacy of expertise with clientele. A lengthy process that has required many resources and much energy, especially when considered in light of the historically difficult moment we are currently experiencing. Despite all this, today it is enjoying the results of its efforts in terms of image and sales. We spoke of this ‘rebirth’ with Paolo Toscani, Sales Manager at Asso Spa.

Let’s start from the new positioning of Keys…

We wanted to present a fresher, more youthful, and trendier image of the brand, while at the same time focusing on the ‘from day-to-night’ product, which can be worn on multiple occasions and over the course of the entire day. We accordingly worked at length on the product and collections to offer women a comfortable and versatile shoe, which is both fashionable and trendy.

What are the latest innovations you’re proposing for the FW2022/23 season?

First, we have extended the women’s collection by introducing next to sneakers, which represent the iconic Keys product, also new city models like flats, pumps, and high-heeled ankle boots for more elegant occasions.

What’s new in terms of communication?

Since 2021, the brand ambassador of our ad campaign has been showgirl, TV conductor, and former model Elisabetta Gregoracci. This collaboration has been a source of great satisfaction because it embodies in the best way possible the image of the Keys woman: classy, and sometimes athletic, young, and sure of her own femininity, without being tacky or over-the-top.

In 2022, we will undertake a project that will involve around twenty influencers all over Italy for the promotion of the brand on social networks.

How did the outbreak of the pandemic influence the brand’s strategies for development?

The outbreak of the pandemic primarily saw us revise the release date of our collections. We decided to present the collection earlier in order to make it easier to plan production and thereby guarantee the right delivery times, while helping to improve performance in terms of sell out.

What role do fairs play for your business?

Fairs are essential to reinforcing relationships with clientele, while also allowing us to come into contact with new customers.

What are your markets of reference?

Today, the brand is successfully present in Italian multibrand small-scale distribution (around 70% of the total) as well as in European multibrand distribution, including especially countries like Belgium, Germany, France, and Spain. In the near future, our aim is to reach new markets like Japan, where we have been present for years with our Asso brand and where we have excellent partners.

Una visione chiara quella di GianPaola Pedretti, nuova Exhibition Manager di Expo Riva Schuh: la fiera come il ‘qui’ e ‘ora’ dove incontri la tua community, vivi un’esperienza, ritrovi il tuo mondo anche a livello umano, e naturalmente fai affari.

n ingresso importante quello di GianPaola Pedretti in qualità di Exhibition Manager di Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags, che si inquadra nella strategia del marketplace della calzatura e dell'accessorio di rafforzamento del ruolo internazionale della manifestazione e di riferimento per il mercato. Forte di oltre 20 anni di esperienza in Italia e all’estero, GianPaola Pedretti mette, infatti, al servizio della kermesse rivana il suo know how e le compe-

tenze acquisite nell’ambito del marketing (anche digitale), della strategia e delle pubbliche relazioni con gli stakeholder, per garantire una supervisione delle attività fieristiche a 360 gradi (dal coordinamento del team commerciale alla gestione degli spazi espositivi). GianPaola Pedretti vanta, infatti, nel proprio curriculum un triennio in Russia come referente di import-export di una società locale, che le ha permesso di affinare quelle conoscenze - in termini di management, gestione d’impresa e risorse[1]- che le sono state fondamentali, quando, di ritorno in Italia, si è dedicata al mondo delle fiere. Dopo un’esperienza con la fiera di Brescia, ha lavorato per 16 anni in Veronafiere, dove ha ricoperto una pluralità di ruoli: Exhibition Manager, responsabile dell’internazionalizzazione, business development e marketing strategico. Oggi che entra a far parte del team di Expo Riva Schuh-Gardabags guarda con occhi di innovazione e internazionalizzazione al futuro della manifestazione.

Che cosa ti ha convinto ad entrare a far parte della grande famiglia di Expo Riva Schuh?

L’industria della calzatura e del fashion non faceva parte del mio background lavorativo e quindi il progetto che mi è stato presentato da Expo Riva Schuh ha avuto per me fin dall’inizio una grande attrattiva, anche per il suo carattere di novità. Riva del Garda, inoltre, è un posto bellissimo, con il suo lago e le sue montagne, dove non può che far piacere trascorrere il proprio tempo, e il mio team di lavoro è molto affiatato. Ma non è tutto: Expo Riva Schuh è una fiera con un suo carattere di unicità e che rappresenta un successo tutto italiano. Si tratta, infatti, di una realtà fieristica di dimensioni relativamente piccole rispetto ad un panorama fieristico mondiale dominato da enti organizzatori e quartieri fieristici di grandi dimensioni, che sono generalmente i soli in grado di realizzare manifestazioni dal carattere internazionale di successo. La kermesse rivana, tuttavia, è stata in grado - attraverso il livello di qualità dei servizi offerti e alla specializzazione raggiunta nell’industria della calzatura - di proporsi nel corso del tempo come l’appuntamento di riferimento a livello mondiale per il settore calzature. Potremmo dire che Expo Riva Schuh/ Gardabags, in questo senso, si propone come una sorta di

‘boutique hotel’, capace di avere un’attrattiva internazionale, ma nel rispetto delle piccole dimensioni.

Quali sono i punti fondamentali della tua ‘vision’ su cui focalizzerai maggiormente la tua attenzione?

Prima di tutto i buyer, con l’offerta di servizi nuovi e innovativi dedicati ai compratori e che vanno a segmentare sempre di più la domanda e ad incrociare sempre di più, e soprattutto sempre meglio, la domanda con l’offerta. Conoscere meglio gli espositori da una parte, e conoscere meglio le aspirazioni dei buyer dall’altra, ci aiuterà sempre di più a creare il perfetto ‘match’ tra domanda e offerta, al fine di trasformare la fiera in una perfetta piattaforma di networking e di business. L’obiettivo è che la fiera diventi effettivamente e a tutti gli effetti, ‘the right place to be’, il posto dove incontri la tua community, dove fai un’esperienza, dove ritrovi il tuo mondo anche a livello umano, e naturalmente dove fai business. L’altro aspetto su cui intendo concentrare la mia attenzione è l’innovazione, cosicché Expo Riva Schuh possa sempre più proporsi in futuro non solo come una grande, bella e completa vetrina di prodotti, ma anche come un vero e proprio motore di innovazione per il settore. Quest’anno, in particolare, e fino a gennaio 2023, l’innovazione seguirà il percorso della sostenibilità e della tracciabilità di prodotto, con l’obiettivo di portare la calzatura e la pelletteria al pari di altri settori che in quest’ambito hanno investito prima e che si trovano oggi più preparati. Il terzo elemento su cui voglio focalizzare la mia attenzione e i mie sforzi è l’inclusività: mi piace pensare che la calzatura sia un bene di consumo che ‘calza’ letteralmente tutta l’umanità, e che ha un impatto molto importante nella vita delle persone. Il fatto che Expo Riva Schuh si proponga da sempre come la fiera di riferimento per la calzatura di volume, significa che da sempre pone al centro della propria offerta una calzatura che entra nel quotidiano di ogni persona nel mondo, e che incide nel budget quotidiano di ognuno di noi. Quindi parliamo di un bene di per sé molto inclusivo. Pensare che nella fiera di Riva si ‘calza il mondo’, fa riflettere sul ruolo stesso di questa manifestazione. In questo senso abbiamo in cantiere una serie di iniziative di ‘sorprese’ da riservare ad espositori e visitatori….

C’è un aspetto della prossima edizione che ti sta particolarmente a cuore e che vuoi sottolineare?

Sicuramente lo sforzo che sta facendo la fiera, con l’aiuto di ICE e del Governo italiano, per potenziare l’incoming straniero. Questo significa, nel concreto, predisporre un

programma specifico per i buyer e puntare con consapevolezza non solo all’Europa, ma anche all’extra Europa: penso ad esempio all’Africa (nord e centro Africa), al centro Asia e agli Usa. Si tratta di una novità che riveste una grande importanza sia per gli espositori - che possono così ritrovarsi in un contesto fieristico di aziende altamente profilate -, sia per i buyer - che possono vivere quella ‘community’ di cui parlavo prima. Questo significa che solo a Riva, e in questo contesto di fiera, posso non solo trovare i prodotti di mio interesse e che richiede il mercato, ma anche incontrare persone del mio settore provenienti da tutto il mondo: dall’Azerbaigian come dalla Costa d’Avorio, dagli Usa come dalla Svezia. Solo nel ‘qui’ e ‘ora’ incontro il mondo della calzatura. Un secondo aspetto che mi sta a cuore e che caratterizza da sempre Expo Riva Schuh è la ‘fiera diffusa’. Il fatto che la fiera coinvolga non solo i padiglioni fieristici, ma anche gli hotel di Riva del Garda, è un grande valore aggiunto e una sua peculiarità. Questo perché a differenza di altre fiere anche molto conosciute, la città di Riva è in questo caso coinvolta non tanto con esperienze di tipo leisure o che avvengono al termine dell’orario fieristico, ma proprio con un’esperienza business, che si svolge in contemporanea nei padiglioni fieristici e negli hotel.

C’è qualche salone o iniziativa in giro per il mondo che ti ha particolarmente colpita e che influenza la tua visione futura di Expo Riva Schuh-Gardabags?

Oggi si discute moltissimo, in ambito fieristico, dei nuovi format legati alla profonda trasformazione che in tutto il mondo le fiere hanno subito a causa dell’avvento della pandemia. Trasformazione che a mio parere è destinata a durare, perché è cambiato il modo in cui il visitatore e l’espositore ‘vedono il mondo’. Si pensi, ad esempio, alla commistione tra ‘mondo reale’ e ‘mondo digitale’, e alla possibilità di fare business anche senza viaggiare. A mio parere, ciò che conterà sempre di più in futuro è l’esperienza che il buyer e l’espositore possono vivere in fiera, e che è legata indissolubilmente a ‘quel luogo’ e a ‘quel momento’. Il ‘qui’ e ‘ora’, tipici del momento fieristico fisico, diventano quindi due asset di un’esperienza che appare oggi sempre più complessa e che comprende non solo il business, ma anche il learning, il networking e la casualità.

Che cosa intendo per casualità? Quando navigo su internet alla ricerca di un prodotto, mi dirigo verso quello che ho in mente; quando, invece, sono in fiera, posso anche imbattermi in uno stand che ha prodotti di mio interesse e che tuttavia non cercavo. Questo è un grande valore 35

aggiunto dell’esperienza fisica in fiera. L’abilità dell’organizzatore di una manifestazione fieristica è allora proprio quella di inserire nella propria offerta una varietà tale di prodotti da essere in grado di rispondere alle esigenze del buyer, ma anche del mercato, con prodotti che il visitatore non sa ancora che sono di suo interesse. Oltre al fattore cruciale dell’esperienza fatta in fiera, c’è quello della community. La community si consolida durante tutto l’arco dell’anno sulla piattaforma, con una formula a livello di ‘engagement’ che deve essere capace di trasferire l’esperienza vissuta in fiera, durante tutto l’anno. Questo significa creare dei servizi distintivi per quello specifico mercato.

Stiamo lavorando molto in questa direzione con iniziative come il nuovo servizio Business Scout, molto curato e su misura del visitatore.

Expo Riva Schuh: increasingly ‘the right place to be’ A clear vision is that of GianPaola Pedretti, the new Exhibition Manager at Expo Riva Schuh: the fair as a ‘here’ and ‘now’ where it’s possible to meet the entire community, try out a new experience, rediscover your world also on a humane level, and naturally do business.

An important entry is that of GianPaola Pedretti as the Exhibition Manager at Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags, who will take charge of the footwear and accessory marketplace strategy, while reinforcing the international role of the event of reference for the market. Strong from over 20 years of experience in Italy and abroad, GianPaola Pedretti in fact offers the Riva event her know-how and expertise acquired in the field of marketing (including digital marketing), strategy and public relations with stakeholders, so as to oversee the fair’s activities at 360 degrees (from the coordination of the commercial team to the management of exhibition spaces). The curriculum of GianPaola Pedretti in fact includes a 3-year period of working in Russia as an import-export representative for a local company, which allowed her to perfect her knowledge – in terms of management, and business and human resources management. This proved 36

essential upon her re-entry to Italy when she decided to dedicate herself to the world of fairs. After an experience with the fair of Brescia, she worked for 16 years for Veronafiere, where she took on several roles: Exhibition Manager, head of internationalisation, business development, and strategic marketing. Today, as she becomes part of the Expo Riva Schuh-Gardabags team, she looks with innovation and internationalisation to the future of the event.

What convinced you to become part of the big family that is Expo Riva Schuh?

The footwear and fashion industry were not part of my previous work experiences and so the project presented to me by Expo Riva Schuh was quite attractive right from the start, also for the novelty of it all. At the same time, Riva del Garda is an extremely beautiful place, with its lake and mountains, where you can’t help but have a pleasant time, and my team is very closeknit. However, that’s not all: Expo Riva Schuh is a fair with its own unique character, representing a completely Italian success.

In fact, it’s a trade fair reality of relatively small dimensions compared to the worldwide trade fair panorama dominated by organisational bodies and trade fair complexes of large dimensions, who are generally the only ones capable of creating successful events of international scope. Despite this, the Riva event has shown itself capable – through the quality level of services offered and the specialisation achieved in the footwear industry – of proposing itself over time as the worldwide appointment of reference for the footwear industry. In this sense, you could even say that Expo Riva Schuh/Gardabags proposes itself as a kind of ‘boutique hotel’, capable of attracting an international pubic, while maintaining its small dimensions.

What are the fundamental key points of your ‘vision’ that you will focus your attention on the most?

First, buyers, by offering new and innovative services dedicated to buyers and increasingly breaking up the demand into segments, while matching supply with demand in the best way possible. Understanding exhibitors better from one end, while learning more about the desires of buyers from the other end, will increasingly help us to create the perfect ‘match’ between supply and demand, with the aim of transforming the fair into a perfect networking and business platform. The aim is for the fair to effectively become ‘the right place to be’, the place where you can meet up with the community, have a new experience, rediscover your world on a humane level, and naturally do business. The other aspect on which I intend to focus my attention is innovation, so that Expo Riva Schuh can increasingly propose itself in the future not only as an extensive, beautiful, and complete

showcase of products, but also as a bona fide motor of innovation for the sector. This year, in particular, at the end of January 2023, innovation will follow the pathway of sustainability and traceability for the product, with the aim of bringing footwear and leather goods to the same level of other sectors, which were the first to invest in fairs and which today find themselves more prepared. The third element on which I would like to focus my attention and my efforts is inclusivity: I like to think that footwear is a consumer good that literally ‘fits’ all of humanity, with an extremely important impact on the lives of people. The fact that Expo Riva Schuh has always proposed itself as the fair of reference for volume footwear, means that it has always placed itself at the centre of the footwear offering that is part of the daily life of every person in the world, affecting the daily budget of each one of us. Here, we’re talking about a commodity that is very inclusive in and of itself. If you think about how we ‘fit the feet of the world’ at the Riva fair, it makes you reflect upon the role of the event itself. In this sense, we have a series of ‘surprise’ initiatives in the works, which are reserved for exhibitors and visitors…

For the next edition, is there an aspect that is especially important to you that you would like to work on in particular?

Without a doubt, the efforts that the fair is making, with the help of ICE and the Italian Government, in reinforcing incoming services for foreigners. This means tangibly setting up a specific programme for buyers and focusing with awareness not only on Europe, but also on non-European countries: I’m thinking for example about Africa (North and Central Africa), the centre of Asia, and the USA. It’s a novelty of great importance for exhibitors – who accordingly find themselves in a trade fair context of high-profile companies -, as well as for buyers – who can become part of the ‘community’ I mentioned before. This means that only at Riva, and in the context of the fair, can I find the products of interest to me and in demand by the market, while also meeting people from my sector coming from around the world: from Azerbaijan and the Ivory Coast, to the USA and Sweden. It’s only in the ‘here’ and ‘now’ can I meet up with the world of footwear. A second aspect that is quite important to me and which has always characterised Expo Riva Schuh is the ‘widespread exhibition”. The fact that the fair is held not only in the pavilions of the fairgrounds, but also in the hotels of Riva del Garda, is of great added value and uniqueness. This is because unlike other well-known fairs, the city of Riva is in this case involved in offering not only leisure-like experiences outside of the fair, but also business experiences, which are held at the same time in both the trade fair halls and hotels.

Is there a show or initiative that especially struck you while travelling around the world and which influenced your future vision of Expo Riva Schuh-Gardabags?

Today, there is a lot of discussion, in the trade fair industry, about the new formats connected to the deep transformation that the entire world of fairs underwent following the outbreak of the pandemic. A transformation, which in my opinion, is destined to continue, because the way in which visitors and exhibitors ‘see the world’ has changed. Just think, for example of the blending between ‘real world’ and ‘digital world’, and of the possibility of doing business without travelling. In my opinion, what increasingly counts in the future is the experience that buyers and exhibitors can have at the fair, which is inextricably connected to ‘that place’ and ‘that time’. The ’here’ and ‘now’ typical of the physical trade fair accordingly become two assets of an experience that appears to be increasingly complex today, and which includes not only business, but also learning, networking, and randomness. What do I mean by randomness? When I search on the internet for a product, I look precisely for what I have in mind; when, instead, I am at the fair, I can also happen upon a stand that has products of interest to me, which I was not specifically looking for. This is of great added value to the physical experience of the fair. The ability to organise a trade fair is accordingly that of being able to insert in your offering a wide variety of products capable of replying to the needs of buyers, but also the market, with products that visitors might not even know yet are of interest to them. In addition to the essential experience of participating in the fair, there is also the community.

The community is reinforced over the course of the year on the platform, with a formula of ‘engagement’, which must be capable of conveying the experience of the fair for the entire year.

This means creating distinct services for that specific market. We are working a lot in this direction with initiatives like the new Business Scout service, which is extremely well-appointed and made-to-measure for visitors.

a tempo i principali gruppi hanno compreso l'importanza del ruolo dell'arte nel campo della moda e hanno inaugurato la tendenza ad aprire al pubblico fondazioni e musei. Apripista è stata proprio Venezia con la nascita della Fondazione Pinault, nelle due sedi di Palazzo Grassi e Punta della Dogana, e della Fondazione Prada, ospitata nel palazzo Ca' Corner della Regina sul Canal Grande. Mai prima d’ora, tuttavia, il mondo della moda aveva investito così tanto come nell’edizione appena inaugurata della Biennale di Venezia, considerata il più importante evento globale dell’arte contemporanea. Mostre, iniziative culturali, progetti artistici, sponsorizzazioni, ma anche feste e cene mondane, le grandi maison hanno voluto comunicare a tutti i costi la loro presenza in laguna in contemporanea con l’apertura della 59ma Mostra Internazionale d'Arte Contemporanea, intitolata The milk of dreams, che si terrà, fino al 27 novembre 2022, tra l'Arsenale e i Giardini. C’è Bottega Veneta che ha supportato le performance dei coreografi William Forsythe, Lenio Kaklea, Ralph Lemon e Pam Tanowitz, ispirate alla mostra “Bruce Nauman: Contrapposto Studies” della Fondazione Pinault a Punta Della Dogana, realizzando i costumi dei ballerini. Burberry che ha sostenuto il Padiglione Inglese, vincitore del Leone d’Oro come miglior padiglione nazionale. La moda, dunque, guarda sempre di più al mondo dell’arte sia come fonte di ispirazione sia come vetrina promozionale. Tra i tanti eventi a Venezia una menzione speciale va a Valentino, main sponsor del bellissimo Padiglione Italia, intitolato Storia della Notte e Destino delle Comete, che per la prima volta presenta in mostra un solo artista: Gian Maria Tosatti. Un viaggio immaginifico nell’industria tessile italiana negli anni del miracolo economico sospeso tra nostalgia ed etica del lavoro. Ritorna in qualche modo al centro del dibattito, il rapporto tra l’essere umano e il suo approccio al lavoro già protagonista, solo pochi mesi fa, della collezione disegnata da Miuccia Prada, tra le massime collezioniste europee di arte contemporanea, e Raf Simons, tra i designer più visionari degli ultimi anni, per Prada ed intitolata, appunto, Body of The Work che è stata presentata al pubblico sulle passerelle milanesi dell’ultima Men Fashion Week. Una rivisitazione, in chiave ovviamente extra-lusso, delle uniformi da lavoro esaltate dall’uso di materiali preziosi come la pelle o la seta. A pensarci bene, si tratta di sdoganare la tuta da lavoro così da segnarne il passaggio da abbigliamento umile, modesto, dimesso, a outfit da mostrare con orgoglio esattamente come i macchinari di una vecchia azienda tessile possono diventare opere d’arte all’interno della più importante mostra del pianeta.

Arte e moda che, seppure a distanza e con le dovute differenze, si parlano ancora incrociando costantemente l’una il campo d’azione dell’altra.

A reinterpretation, obviously in an extra-luxury key, of work uniforms enhanced by the use of precious materials such as leather or silk. Thinking about it, it is a question of legitimising overalls so as to mark the passage from humble, modest, modest clothing, to outfits that should be proudly shown, the same way machines of an old textile company can become works of art inside the most important exhibition on the planet. Art and fashion which, albeit at a distance and with the necessary differences, still talk to each other, constantly crossing each other’s action field.

I brand valorizzano la cultura del marchio

Influencer e brand ambassador.

Due figure chiave nel mondo della moda per raccontare non solo il prodotto, ma un intero mondo.

’approccio è cambiato. Le richieste del pubblico sono differenti. Il prodotto, da solo, non è più il protagonista. Oggi, i brand hanno scelto di evidenziare e valorizzare il progetto culturale che sta dietro l’azienda. Ed è uno dei motivi per cui trovano spazio nel racconto di un marchio anche influencer e brand ambassador. Soprattutto quest’ultimo riveste un ruolo strategico più dell’influencer: è, infatti, chiamato a impersonare i valori della griffe e - attraverso il suo stile di vita - rappresentarne la vision. Oltre a svolgere la funzione di intermediario tra il marketing e la distribuzione, viene impiegato per dare un volto all’etichetta, per impersonificarla. L’obiettivo è spingere il consumatore a scoprire (e quindi acquistare) un prodotto avvalendosi, nella maggior parte dei casi, di personaggi che ricoprono già un ruolo di opinion leader nel settore di riferimento. Il brand ambassador diventa rappresentante e parte attiva dell’azienda. Deve conoscere nel dettaglio ogni aspetto del singolo prodotto o dei servizi, perché potrebbe diventare anche la voce demandata a rispondere ai consumatori facendosi, così, garante della qualità e della reputazione. Come abbiamo sottolineato in precedenza, si tratta di una figura che deve rispecchiare la personalità del brand e diventare parte integrante della sua identità.

Il modo di fare marketing nel mondo della moda è cambiato. Ad esempio, non si punta più all’esclusività. Le grandi firme, oggi, hanno scelto di includere tutti, vogliono poter raccogliere più consenso possibile, ampliare gli orizzonti sempre di più, soprattutto nella loro virtual community - composta non solo da clienti - così da amplificare la forza del marchio e, quindi, i suoi valori e la sua storia.

Un cambio di paradigma che, con l’aiuto del professor Romano Cappellari, siamo riusciti a comprendere meglio. Docente di marketing e retailing da 20 anni, dirige il Master in Retail management e marketing del CUOA e, dal 2018, ha assunto la direzione scientifica anche del Master in Marketing Brand Ambassador.

Nel corso della sua esperienza il Professor Cappellari ha realizzato due pubblicazioni importanti, la prima del 2008 dal titolo “Il marketing della moda e del lusso”, e la seconda nel 2011: “Il marketing della moda e dei prodotti Lifestyle”.

Digitalizzazione, globalizzazione, centralità del retail e nuovi comportamenti di acquisto hanno profondamente cambiato il mercato della moda e del lusso. Come?

“Tra i tanti cambiamenti in atto in questi ultimi anni ne vorrei sottolineare due, in parte collegati tra loro.

In primo luogo, posso dire, un po’ provocatoriamente, che è definitivamente passato in secondo piano il ruolo del prodotto. Non che moda e lusso non abbiano, da sempre, attribuito una forte valenza alla dimensione immateriale dell’offerta, al potere di comunicazione del logo. Oggi, però, il progetto culturale dietro al brand è arrivato a prendere nettamente il sopravvento sui prodotti che lo rendono tangibile. Si pensi alle campagne di comunicazione di Valentino nelle quali non c’era un solo vestito fotografato, ma solo parole, pensieri di autori selezionati da Pierpaolo Piccioli. Oppure, alla sfilatanon sfilata di Balenciaga nella quale non sono stati presentati dei capi, ma un episodio speciale dei Simpson nel quale i personaggi della serie vestivano Balenciaga.

Anche nella più recente sfilata di Balenciaga, organizzata poche settimane dopo lo scoppio della guerra in Ucraina, il messaggio di Demna sul dramma dei profughi sovrastava di gran lunga la presentazione dei capi.

La conseguenza di questo fenomeno è una scomparsa dei confini settoriali e una declinazione del brand sempre più in un sistema di offerta lifestyle.

Giorgio Armani, da questo punto di vista, è stato un precursore, ormai parecchi anni fa. Ma, oggi, i brand che con modalità diverse declinano la propria immagine in campi diversi dalla moda sono tantissimi, si pensi alla loro offerta nella ristorazione: si va dalle osterie di Gucci al mitico Tommy Bahama (caso che cito anche nel primo capitolo del mio libro), passando per Ralph Lauren, Louis Vuitton, Tiffany e Dior.

Si noti che c’è una differenza concettuale rispetto al modo in cui veniva vista la brand extension in pas-

sato: nel secolo scorso allargare l’offerta, di solito ricorrendo alle licenze, era semplicemente un modo per aumentare i ricavi sfruttando la notorietà che il brand aveva conquistato nel suo settore di origine.

Oggi, non si tratta solo di questo: si tratta, invece, di utilizzare più linguaggi per spiegare al consumatore il progetto culturale del brand. Quando Gucci ha deciso di dare vita all’Osteria di Firenze, insieme a Massimo Bottura e alla bravissima Karime Lopez, non l’ha fatto per aumentare il fatturato del brand, ma per far innamorare il consumatore del progetto di Alessandro Michele attraverso il senso del gusto.

Il secondo cambiamento che vorrei enfatizzare riguarda il rapporto tra lusso e consumatori. Fino a non molti anni fa, il mondo del lusso era basato sull’esclusività: i grandi brand del lusso erano desiderati e ammirati, ma erano realmente accessibili solo per pochi consumatori, mentre gli altri si limitavano a osservare da lontano, esclusi quasi fisicamente dalle boutique nelle quali chi non era in grado di permettersi l’acquisto era guardato con freddezza e implicitamente allontanato. Ora, questa barriera è caduta: il negozio Dior di Parigi nei week end è visitato da un numero di persone analogo a quello di attrazioni come il Colosseo (o il museo del Louvre).

I brand del lusso dialogano con tutti ed entrano nelle vite dei consumatori, sia dei clienti che dei non clienti.

A questo fenomeno ha contribuito sicuramente anche la digitalizzazione della nostra vita: mi riferisco a un’esperienza digitale come quella di Gucci su Roblox, vissuta da milioni di persone, soprattutto giovanissimi, o alle skin Vuitton acquistabili per poche decine di euro su League of Legend pensate per esibire il proprio stile on line”.

Quali sono le 10 parole chiave che hanno caratterizzato questa prima parte del 2022?

“Con questa domanda mi permette di accennare al progetto delle pillole di marketing che posto ogni giorno sul mio canale Telegram ‘romanocappellari’.

Nel marketing dei prodotti lifestyle stanno succedendo tantissime cose così, periodicamente, organizzo dei seminari per sintetizzare le tendenze del momento attraverso dieci parole chiave.

METAVERSO

Oggi, vorrei soffermarmi brevemente sulle prime due: metaverso e fisicità. Anche se a volte si tende a esagerare con le previsioni sull’impatto che avrà sulle nostre vite, è chiaro che il metaverso (anche se sarebbe meglio parlare di metaversi) non è più un fenomeno di nicchia: il ristorante virtuale della catena fast food Wendy’s è stato visitato da più di cinquanta milioni di persone in un mese.

Una parte considerevole delle nostre vite verrà, quindi, passata online, conoscendo nuovi amici su Fortnite o partecipando ai concerti su Roblox.

Contemporaneamente a questa crescita del mondo digitale, emergono segnali molto forti di quanto la ricerca di esperienze fisiche e di contatti reali servano e tornino ai livelli pre-pandemia: abbiamo già detto di quante persone amano andare di persona nel negozio di Dior (o di Gucci, dove l’ultima volta, a Firenze, per entrare ho dovuto fare la fila in piazza della Signoria). Emblematico, da questo punto di vista, è stato il ridimensionamento di Peloton, azienda che incentra il suo modello di business sulla vendita di attrezzi per il fitness connessi che consentono ai clienti di partecipare a classi online. Ci si è resi conto che molte persone preferiscono la scomodità di una vera palestra, dove incontrare persone in carne e ossa per sudare in compagnia”.

Questa intervista vuole far emergere l’impiego e il ruolo di figure quali gli influencer e gli ambassador. Come si posizionano all’interno del mondo che descrive?

“Il fatto di utilizzare in modo più o meno stabile delle persone per promuovere un prodotto o un brand non è pratica recente. Quello che è cambiato è che queste persone, grazie ai social network, sono oggi in grado di comunicare con i consumatori senza l’intermediazione dei mass media.

Una foto sull’account Instagram di una qualsiasi delle Kardashian-Jenner è in grado di raggiungere più persone della somma di tutti i magazine del mondo, e lo stesso si dica dei video su TikTok delle sorelle D’Amelio.

Semplificando un po’ si può dire che gli influencer sono i nuovi magazine: mentre prima si ingaggiava una celebrity e poi si acquistavano gli spazi sulle riviste per diffonderne le immagini, oggi non è più indispensabile questo doppio passaggio”.

Perché un brand decide di utilizzare un influencer o un ambassador? Potrebbe farci qualche esempio?

Naturalmente il limite di questo tipo di operazioni risiede nel fatto che tutti i consumatori sono consapevoli dell’esistenza di rapporti commerciali tra brand e influencer che, quindi, risultano certamente efficaci nel rendere visibile il prodotto, ma meno nell’influenzare i comportamenti d’acquisto: non lo sono più di quanto lo possa essere una pagina pubblicitaria acquistata su un magazine.

Questo è, tra l’altro, il motivo per cui molti preferiscono utilizzare il termine content creator piuttosto che il più fuorviante influencer. Diverso è il caso degli ambassador che intrattengono con il brand un rapporto autentico e duraturo nel tempo e che, quindi, si identificano in qualche misura con il marchio. Quando Ye, ma anche la sua ex moglie Kim Kardashian, compare a un evento pubblico vestito Balenciaga, lo fa per il rapporto che ha con il direttore creativo Demna e con il brand, risultando più convincente rispetto alla foto spot di una celebrity con una borsa Balenciaga”.

Two key figures in the fashion world to tell of a product, but also of the entire world.

The approach has changed. Requests from the public are different. The product, alone, is no longer the protagonist. Today, brands have chosen to highlight and enhance the cultural project that is behind the company. This is one of the reasons why influencers and brand ambassadors also find space in the story of a brand. Above all, the latters play a more strategic role than influencers: they, in fact, are called to embody the values of the brand representing its vision through their lifestyles.

In addition to acting as intermediaries between marketing and distribution, they give a face to the label, personifying it.

The goal is to encourage the consumer to discover (and therefore buy) a product making use, in most cases, of people who 43

already hold the role of opinion leaders in the reference sector. Brand ambassadors become representatives and an active part of the company. They must know in detail every aspect of the individual product or service, because they could also become the entrusted voice to respond to consumers, thus becoming the guarantor of quality and reputation. As was previously emphasised, it is a figure who must reflect the personality of the brand and become an integral part of its identity.

The way of doing marketing in the fashion world has changed. For example, we no longer aim for exclusivity. The big names, today, have chosen to include everyone, they want to be able to gather as much consensus as possible, ever more broadening their horizons, especially in their virtual community - not composed just of customers - so as to amplify the strength of the brand and, therefore, its values and history.

A change of paradigm that, with the help of Professor Romano Cappellari, we were able to understand better. Marketing and retailing teacher for 20 years, he directs the Master in Retail management and marketing of CUOA and in 2018 he took over the scientific direction of the Master in Marketing Brand Ambassador. In the course of his experience, Professor Cappellari has produced two important publications, the first in 2008 entitled “The marketing of fashion and luxury”, and the second one in 2011: “The marketing of fashion and lifestyle products”.

Digitisation, globalisation, the centrality of retail and new purchasing behaviours have profoundly changed the fashion and luxury market. How? “Among the many changes taking place in recent years I would like to highlight two of them, partly connected with each other.

First of all, I can say, somewhat provocatively, that the role of the product has definitely taken a back seat. Not that fashion and luxury have not always attributed a strong value to the immaterial dimension of the offer, to the communication power of the logo. Today, however, the cultural project behind the brand clearly prevails over the products that make it tangible. Think of Valentino’s communication campaigns without a single dress being photographed, but just words, thoughts of authors selected by Pierpaolo Piccioli. Or, the Balenciaga show-not show where no garments were presented, but a special episode of the Simpsons in which the characters of the series wore Balenciaga. Even in the most recent Balenciaga parade, organised a few weeks after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, Demna’s message about the plight of refugees far outweighed the presentation of the garments.

The consequence of this phenomenon is the disappearance of sectoral boundaries and the brand’s increasing inclination to apply a lifestyle-type offer.

From this point of view, Giorgio Armani was a forerunner, already several years ago. But, today, in different ways many brands decline their image in fields that are different from fashion. Think of their catering service offer: ranging from the Gucci taverns to the legendary Tommy Bahama (a case that I also mention in the first chapter of my book), passing through Ralph Lauren, Louis Vuitton, Tiffany and Dior.

Note that there is a conceptual difference from the way brand extension was viewed in the past: in the last century, expanding the offer, usually by resorting to licensing, was simply a way to increase revenues by exploiting the notoriety that the brand had conquered in its sector of origin.

Today, it’s not just about this: it’s about using multiple languages to explain the brand’s cultural project to the consumer. When Gucci decided to give life to the Osteria di Firenze, together with Massimo Bottura and the talented Karime Lopez, it did not do it to increase the turnover of the brand, but to make the consumer fall in love with Alessandro Michele’s project through the sense of taste.

The second change I would like to emphasise concerns the relationship between luxury and consumers. Until a few years ago, the luxury world was based on exclusivity: the great luxury brands were desired and admired, but really accessible only to a few consumers, while the others limited themselves to observing from afar, almost physically excluded from boutiques in which

FISICITÀ those who were unable to afford the purchase were viewed with coldness and implicitly dismissed. Now, this barrier has fallen: the Dior store in Paris on weekends is visited by a similar number of people to attractions such as the Colosseum (or the Louvre museum). Luxury brands communicate with everyone and enter the lives of consumers, both customers and non-customers.

The digitisation of our lives has certainly contributed to this phenomenon: I am referring to a digital experience like that of Gucci on Roblox, experienced by millions of people, especially very young people, or to the Vuitton skins that can be purchased for a few tens of euro on League of Legend designed to show one’s style online”.

What are the 10 keywords that have characterised this first part of 2022?

“With this question you allow me to mention the marketing pills project that I post every day on myTelegram channel ‘romanocappellari’.A lot of things are happening in the marketing of lifestyle products so that, periodically, I organise seminars to summarise the trends of the moment through ten keywords. Today, I would like to briefly focus on the first two: metaverse and physicality.

Even if we sometimes tend to exaggerate with the forecasts on the impact it will have on our lives, it is clear that the metaverse (even if it would be better to speak of metaverses) is no longer a niche phenomenon: Wendy’s virtual fast food restaurant was visited by more than fifty million people in one month.

A considerable portion of our lives will therefore be spent online, making new friends on Fortnite or attending concerts on Roblox.

Simultaneously with this growth of the digital world, very strong signs are emerging that the search for physical experiences and real contacts are needed and return to pre-pandemic levels: we have already said how many people love to go in person to the Dior (or Gucci store), where the last time, in Florence, I had to queue to enter in Piazza della Signoria). Emblematic, from this point of view, was the downsizing of Peloton, a company that focuses its business model on the sale of connected fitness equipment that allows customers to participate in online classes. It has been realised that many people prefer the inconvenience of a real gym, where you can meet real people to sweat in company”.

This interview aims to highlight the employment and role of figures such as influencers and ambassadors.

How do they position themselves within the world you are describing?

“The fact of using people in a more or less stable way to promote a product or a brand is not recent practice. What has changed is that these people, thanks to social networks, are now able to communicate with consumers without the intermediation of the mass media. A photo on the Instagram account of any one of the Kardashian-Jenners is able to reach more people than the sum of all the magazines in the world, and the same goes for the videos on TikTok of the D’Amelio sisters.

Simplifying a bit, we can say that influencers are the new magazines: while first a celebrity was hired and then space was bought in magazines to disseminate their images, today this double step is no longer essential”.

Why does a brand decide to use an influencer or an ambassador? Could you give us some examples?

“First of all, brands use influencers and ambassadors to be visible and take advantage of the halo effect of the chosen personality. Being the bag in Chiara Ferragni’s hand does not only mean being seen by twenty-seven million people, but also becoming part of the elegant world that surrounds the entrepreneur.

The limit of this type of operation lies obviously in the fact that all consumers are aware of the existence of commercial relationships between brands and influencers which, therefore, are certainly effective in making the product visible, but less so in influencing purchasing behaviour: they are no more than an advertising page purchased in a magazine can be.

This is, among other things, the reason why many prefer to use the term content creator rather than the more misleading influencer.

The case is different for ambassadors who have an authentic and long-lasting relationship with the brand and who, therefore, identify themselves to some extent with the brand.

ggi, a gestire i negozi Schuhhaus Meyer & ABC Shoes ci pensa la terza e quarta generazione imprenditoriale rappresentata da Brigitte Wischnewski - presidente dell'Associazione tedesca dei dettaglianti di calzature (BDSE) dal 2002 al 2021 - e dalla figlia Britta Goertz che propongono alla propria clientela una vasta offerta di calzatura Uomo, Donna e Bambino.

Qual è l'umore attuale?

Brigitte Wischnewski: Fino alla fine di febbraio, si notava chiaramente uno stato d'animo di ottimismo. L’inizio della stagione è stato molto positivo. Tuttavia, la guerra in Ucraina ha fatto crollare bruscamente il buon umore.

Inoltre, l'estremo aumento dei costi energetici ha messo fiaccato l'ottimismo dei clienti.

Britta Görtz: Il sentimento di incertezza si percepisce ogni giorno. L'atteggiamento di base della gente è descritto dalla frase ormai comune: ‘tutto sta diventando più caro’. Sono molto sensibili ai prezzi e alcuni di loro manifestano ansia per il futuro. Fortunatamente, con alcune eccezioni: le scarpe per bambini sono sempre percepite come una necessità e non ci sono discussioni sul prezzo. Le donne anziane con un reddito sicuro o una buona pensione rimangono propense all'acquisto. Questo tipo di donna ha già vissuto molte crisi, non si fa intimidire e a volte compra tre paia di scarpe in una volta sola.

Brigitte Wischnewski: Dalla fine di aprile, tuttavia, abbiamo osservato un ulteriore cambiamento. La frequenza in negozio è aumentata considerevolmente. Un dato certamente dovuto al bel tempo soleggiato e alle temperature in aumento. Il meteo favorevole fa sì che la gente voglia comprare scarpe nuove. Abbiamo notato anche un altro fattore positivo a seguito della pandemia: molti comprano di nuovo a livello locale. Soprattutto nelle città di medie dimensioni, meno affollate.

Meyer Attualmente soffrite di problemi di consegna da parte dei produttori?

Brigitte Wischnewski: Purtroppo, in questo momento dobbiamo accettare ritardi nelle consegne da quattro a otto settimane per molti marchi.

Britta Görtz: Mi dispiace molto che alcuni piccoli produttori con collezioni molto innovative non riescano a consegnare. In parte, a causa degli aumenti dei prezzi dei materiali che rendono impossibile la produzione. È un peccato, perché così non solo vengono a mancare i prodotti innovativi, ma ho anche rinunciato a ordinare da altri fornitori. In alcuni casi non vengono consegnate le varianti colore, in particolare delle tonalità più insolite, che di solito danno bella la vetrina e attirano i clienti in negozio.

Cosa sta funzionando meglio per la prossima primavera/estate?

Brigitte Wischnewski: Le sneakers rimangono le regine indiscusse, la base di partenza, soprattutto in tonalità neutre e naturali. Le combinazioni monocromatiche con sottili accenti di colore in salvia, rosé, bleu e vaniglia stanno andando alla grande nella stagione di transizione. Per il culmine dell'estate optiamo per colori vivaci, per esempio mules e sandali multicolore.

Britta Görtz: Il mocassino è finalmente tornato di moda!

Da un lato, i mocassini con suole chunky e dettagli come le grandi catene stanno andando molto bene. D'altra parte, ci sono anche le versioni classiche su suole più fini. Molti clienti che hanno sempre amato questo tipo di scarpa sono felici che sia di nuovo disponibile. Vendiamo particolarmente bene marchi come Paul Green, Maripé e Lloyd.

Negli accessori, stiamo vedendo una buona domanda per tutti i tipi di body bag, tracolle decorative ampie, sciarpe e borse più festive. La clutch è molto richiesta - da abbinare a scarpe e sandali femminili per le prossime ferie.

Per i prossimi ordini rimarrò prudente riguardo le sneaker bianche. Mi concentrerò di più su forme nuove oppure, se sono forme conosciute, su nuovi colori. In generale, mi piacerebbe vedere di nuovo scarpe con molte

decorazioni, in continuità con il trend della catene. Vorrei vedere ancora più allegria sulle scarpe!

Quale aspetto di vendita è divenuto cruciale?

Britta Görtz: I servizi dei fornitori sono diventati molto più importanti. Il cliente non accetta che un certo paio di scarpe non sia disponibile. Se vuole quello non accetta un'alternativa. I fornitori con opzioni di consegna veloce e ottimi servizi B2B, perciò, hanno un chiaro vantaggio.

Gabor e Lloyd, per esempio, ma anche marchi come Andrea Conti o Blundstone sono all’altezza di queste aspettative.

Brigitte Wischnewski: Il nostro lavoro è quello di realizzare i desideri dei clienti. Online trovano una maggior disponibilità di prodotti, naturalmente, ma i nostri buoni consigli aiutano a evitare i cattivi acquisti. Per questo motivo cerchiamo partner che possano sostenerci nell’offrire un servizio competitivo con il digitale. Vorremmo anche vedere più sforzi da parte dei fornitori italiani nell'area della logistica e della digitalizzazione.

Cosa ha cambiato significativamente il settore negli ultimi dieci anni?

Brigitte Wischnewski: Sicuramente internet! Nel 2014/15, abbiamo deciso di vendere anche online. Un passo significativo, spinto all'epoca dalle perdite nel commercio locale. Oggi è parte integrante del business, che copre circa il 18% delle vendite, sia grazie alla nostra piattaforma che ad altri portali come schuhe.de e Schuhe24.

Come già detto, i clienti sono diventati più esigenti. Ogni paio deve essere disponibile e dobbiamo essere in grado di ottenere le scarpe molto rapidamente. La nuova app Loqa ci supporterà da questo punto di vista, perché consente il seamless shopping e aumenta la disponibilità dei prodotti desiderati per il rivenditore locale.

Britta Görtz: Lavoriamo anche con sistemi molto efficienti e trasversali in negozio, come la parete sneaker o la parete outdoor gestite dal gruppo di associazione ANWR. Strategie che ci permettono di costruire collezioni per un periodo di due o quattro stagioni, garantendo la disponibilità e la possibilità di riordino costante dei prodotti.

Un altro buon esempio di cooperazione lungimirante tra industria e vendita al dettaglio è il marchio Blundstone.

Non saremmo in grado di esporre la loro vasta gamma di modelli in negozio. Abbiamo alcuni "modelli di prova" che ci permettono poi di ordinare gli stivali nei colori richiesti tramite il marketplace Scalerion per poi farli consegnare direttamente a casa del cliente o in negozio.

Un sistema che ci permette di evitare i rischi di stock. E i nostri clienti accettano volentieri questo nuovo tipo di shopping experience.

A quali fiere prenderete parte?

Brigitte Wischnewski: Visiteremo sicuramente Shoes a Düsseldorf e le fiere della ANWR. Vorremmo anche venire di nuovo in Italia.

The Schuhhaus Meyer & ABC Shoes shops in Lübbecke (Germany) have been a real family history for almost 120 years (www.schuhhaus-meyer-luebbecke.de).

Today, the Schuhhaus Meyer & ABC Shoes shops are run by the third and fourth generation of the entrepreneurial family, represented by Brigitte Wischnewski – president of the German Association of Shoes Retailers (BDSE) from 2002 to 2021 – and by her daughter Britta Goertz, who offer customers a wide range of shoes for Men, Women and Children.

What is the current mood?

Brigitte Wischnewski: Up until the end of February, there was clearly a mood of optimism. The start of the season was very positive. However, the war in Ukraine abruptly brought the mood down. In addition, the sharp increase in energy costs has dampened customers’ optimism.

Britta Görtz: The feeling of uncertainty can be felt every day.

People’s basic attitude is described by the now-common phrase: ‘everything is getting more expensive.’ They are very price sensitive and some of them are anxious about the future. Fortunately, there are a few exceptions: children’s shoes have always been perceived as a necessity and there are no arguments about the price. Older women with a secure income or a good pension still have a propensity to buy. This type of woman has already gone through many crises, is not intimidated and sometimes buys three pairs of shoes at once.

Brigitte Wischnewski: Since the end of April, however, we have seen a further change. Shop attendance has increased considerably. This is certainly due to the good sunny weather and rising temperatures.

The favourable weather makes people want to buy new shoes.

pandemic: many people are buying locally again. Especially in less crowded medium-sized cities.

Are you currently suffering from delivery problems on the part of manufacturers?

Brigitte Wischnewski: Unfortunately, at this time we have to accept delivery delays of four to eight weeks for many brands.

Britta Görtz: I am very sorry to see that some small manufacturers with very innovative collections cannot deliver. This is partly due to material price increases that make production impossible. It’s a shame, because not only are innovative products missing, but I have also given up on ordering from other suppliers. In some cases, colour variants are not delivered, especially the more unusual shades, which usually make the shop window look beautiful and attract customers to the shop.

Brigitte Wischnewski: Our job is to make customers’ wishes come true. They find more products available online, of course, but our good advice and tips help to avoid bad purchases.

That’s why we are looking for partners who can support us in offering a competitive digital service. We would also like to see more efforts from Italian suppliers in the area of logistics and digitalisation.

What is working best for next spring/summer?

Brigitte Wischnewski: Sneakers are still the undisputed stars, the starting point, especially those in neutral and natural shades. Monochrome combinations with subtle colour accents in sage, rosé, blue and vanilla are doing great in the transitional season. For the height of summer we opt for bright colours, for example, multicoloured mules and sandals.

Britta Görtz: The moccasin is finally back in fashion! On the one hand, moccasins with chunky soles and details such as large chains are doing well. On the other hand, there are also classic versions on thinner soles. Many customers who have always loved this type of shoe are happy that it is available again.

Our best-selling brands are Paul Green, Maripé and Lloyd.

As for accessories, we are seeing good demand for all kinds of body bags, wide decorative shoulder bags, scarves and more festive bags. The clutch is in high demand – to go with feminine shoes and sandals for the upcoming holiday season.

For the next orders, I will remain cautious about white sneakers. I will focus more on new shapes or, if they are well-known shapes, on new colours. In general, I would like to see shoes with lots of decorations again, in continuity with the trend of chains. I would like to see even more exciting and fun details on shoes!

What has changed significantly in the industry over the past decade?

Brigitte Wischnewski: Definitely the Internet! In 2014/15, we decided to sell online as well. A major step, driven at the time by losses in local trade. Today it is an integral part of the business, accounting for approximately 18% of sales, both through our platform and other portals such as schuhe.de and Schuhe24. As already mentioned, customers have become more demanding.

Every pair has to be available and we have to be able to get the shoes very quickly. The new Loqa app will support us in this respect, as it enables seamless shopping and increases the availability of the desired products for the local retailer.

Britta Görtz: We also work with very efficient and cross-functional systems in the shop, such as the sneaker wall or the outdoor wall managed by the ANWR association group. These strategies allow us to build collections for a period of two to four seasons, guaranteeing constant availability and reordering of products. Another good example of forward-looking cooperation between industry and retail is the Blundstone brand. We are not able to display their wide range of models in the shop. We have some "test models" that allow us to order the boots in the required colours via the Scalerion marketplace and then have them delivered directly to the customer’s home or to the shop. A system that allows us to avoid stock risks. And our customers are happy to accept this new type of shopping experience.

Which sales aspect has become crucial?

Il progresso della sostenibilità nel settore delle calzature

Expo Riva Schuh promuove la sostenibilità e, anche durante l’edizione di gennaio 2022, ha ospitato diversi brand che presentavano scarpe all’ultima moda ma prodotte con materiali riciclati e processi sostenibili.

ono sempre di più le aziende calzaturiere, in Italia e all’estero, che investono in sostenibilità e propongono soluzioni innovative, materiali riciclati e processi di produzione a basso impatto ambientale.

Durante l’edizione invernale 2022 della fiera di Riva del Garda un gran numero di aziende hanno presentato le loro collezioni, raccontato come rispettano le regole della sostenibilità e qual è la presa di coscienza dei clienti rispetto alle pratiche di consumo e alla scelta di questi tipi di prodotti.

I brand si trovano a dover ri-prendere in considerazione il proprio modello di business e le proprie pratiche di comportamento e di produzione. In quest’ottica di totalità del concetto di sostenibilità nella moda l’obiettivo è di lavorare con materie prime meno inquinanti, evitare gli sprechi, avere rispetto per le risorse naturali e creare prodotti di qualità superiore che durino nel tempo.

Un esempio è 1 Hundred Shoes, azienda portoghese che lavora soprattutto con il mercato americano e inglese.

Produce scarpe interamente ecosostenibili poiché ogni tipo di materiale utilizzato, dalla tomaia alla suola, è riciclato e riciclabile.

Sono calzature vegane certificate al 100%: le tomaie vengono prodotte senza l’utilizzo di sostanze chimiche o nocive e per le suole viene recuperata la gomma di vecchie scarpe non più utilizzate.

In Spagna troviamo Recykers, anche questa azienda produce scarpe vegane, in particolare sneakers. L’obiettivo del brand è contribuire a preservare l’ambiente attraverso un’economia sostenibile.

Lavora con fornitori certificati dai quali ricevono materiali completamente riciclati: cotone, poliestere, plastica che proviene da bottiglie riciclate. Proprio dalla plastica che viene raccolta in mare nasce Seaqual, il materiale con cui realizzano le loro nuove collezioni di calzature ecologiche.

da la cultura sostenibile. Come ha fatto Savana, anch’essa azienda portoghese che opera nel settore delle calzature dal 1988, ma che da 3 anni ha iniziato a produrre scarpe con materiali riciclati. Collabora in gran parte con gli Stati Uniti e, in Europa, soprattutto con l’Austria.

A Expo Riva Schuh ha presentato le sue sneakers la cui tomaia è fatta con lana recuperata da vecchi maglioni, mentre la suola è prodotta con gomma ecologica e sughero naturale. Inoltre, ha lanciato un nuovo prodotto fatto con buccia di mela, bambù e sughero e la suola realizzata con palline da tennis riciclate.

In Italia Best Group Collection lancia il marchio eco-sostenibile Privato, nato durante il lockdown. In azienda, prima si occupavano di produrre scarpe per altri marchi, finché un cambio di rotta li ha portati a impegnarsi in questo progetto che desideravano da tempo.

Anche per loro il prodotto principale è la sneaker, vegana e realizzata con materiali riciclati. La plastica ha due derivazioni, pre-consumo, ovvero gli scarti industriali provenienti dalla produzione delle suole, e post consumo, come bottiglie ed elementi di plastica riciclati.

L’altra caratteristica a rendere sostenibili le loro scarpe sono i materiali vegetali creati partendo dagli scarti del mais o dalle foglie dell’ananas. Inoltre, cercano di portare avanti una produzione a chilometro zero che limiti al massimo gli sprechi. Infatti, con i materiali di scarto che inevitabilmente provengono dalla produzione delle scarpe, hanno realizzato borse in edizione limitata confezionate da una sarta.

Ma qual è la risposta dei clienti rispetto ai prodotti sostenibili? Testimonianza comune di queste aziende è che l’interesse verso il green e l’eco-friendly sta aumentando, ma è un valore che deve ancora sedimentarsi e diffondersi in maniera uniforme. Sono molti quelli che fanno ancora valutazioni che si basano più sul prezzo che sulla qualità, soprattutto in un periodo socialmente e storicamente complicato come quello attuale.

Nonostante questo, la risposta dei clienti e dei consumatori già orientati verso la sostenibilità è stata immediatamente positiva. Tanto che ognuna di queste realtà, partendo prima da un singolo prodotto ecologico, ha poi ampliato le collezioni e gli articoli a disposizione. La percezione è di una tendenza verso la sostenibilità che si sta concretizzando, sia all’interno dei sistemi di produzione sia nella mente delle persone, sempre più attente a cosa e a come acquistano.

The progress of sustainability in the footwear sector Expo Riva Schuh encourages sustainability, and several brands presented the latest trend shoes made with recycled materials and sustainable procedures during the January 2022 edition.

More and more footwear companies, both nationally and internationally, are investing in sustainability and offering innovative solutions, recycled materials, and low-impact manufacturing processes.

During the winter edition of the Riva del Garda exhibition in 2022, a huge number of companies presented their collections, explaining how they adhere to sustainability guidelines and how buyers are aware of consumption habits and product selection.

Brands are being forced to reconsider their business model, as well as their attitude and production methods. The goal of working with less polluting raw materials, avoiding waste, respecting natural resources, and creating superior quality products that last over time is the purpose of this perspective of the entire concept of sustainability in fashion.

An example is 1 Hundred Shoes, a Portuguese company that primarily serves the American and English markets. Every

sort of material used, from the top to the sole, is recycled and recyclable, resulting in completely eco-friendly shoes.

They are 100% certified vegan shoes: the uppers are made without the use of toxic chemicals, and the bottoms are made from the rubber of old shoes that are no longer in use.

In Spain, instead, we find Recykers. This company also produces vegan shoes, particularly sneakers. The brand's mission is to promote environmental preservation through a sustainable economy.

They collaborate with certified suppliers that provide them with 100% recycled materials such as cotton, polyester, and plastic. Seaqual was born from the plastic that is collected in the sea, and it is this material that they use to create their new eco-friendly footwear styles.

Growing public awareness on environmental issues has created the essential incentive for businesses to adopt a sustainable culture. Savana, a Portuguese company that has been in the footwear business since 1988 but has just been making shoes made from recycled materials for three years, did the same. It works mostly with the United States and, in Europe, particularly Austria.

They presented their shoes at Expo Riva Schuh, which have the upper made of wool recycled from old sweaters and a sole composed of ecological rubber and natural cork. They have also released a new product with an apple peel, bamboo, cork sole and the sole made of recycled tennis balls.

lection launches the eco-sustainable brand called Privato. Before they were involved in creating shoes for other brands, the company was involved in producing shoes for other brands until a change of direction lead them to take on this project that they had been wishing to do for a long time.

Their main product is also the sneaker, vegan and produced with recycled materials. Plastic can be divided into two different groups, pre-consumer plastic, such as industrial waste from the creation of shoes, and post-consumer plastic, such as bottles and recycled plastic parts.

Plant materials created from corn waste or pineapple leaves are another element that makes their shoes sustainable. Furthermore, they strive for zero-kilometre production, which reduces waste to the greatest extent possible. Actually, they designed limited edition bags crafted by a seamstress using waste materials that unavoidably come from the creation of shoes.

But how do customers react to sustainable products? The interest in green and eco-friendly products is growing, according to these businesses, but it is a value that has yet to settle and spread equitably. Many people still make decisions based on money rather than quality, especially in such a socially and historically challenging age as this one.

Despite this, the response of customers and consumers who are already committed to sustainability has been positive. So much so that after starting with a single eco-sustainable product, each of the companies questioned increased their collections and catalogue products. The perception is that the movement toward sustainability is manifesting itself, both within production systems and within the cultural systems of those who buy, who are becoming increasingly conscious of the origins of the things they select.

Fin dalla sua nascita, la fiera ha mantenuto uno stretto legame con il territorio e le strutture ricettive di Riva del Garda, che ancora oggi ospitano molte aziende e marchi partecipanti all’evento.

a sempre Expo Riva Schuh si può definire ‘una fiera diffusa’, in stretta connessione con la comunità e il territorio che la ospita: è nata con questa peculiarità, anticipando i tempi e proponendo un modello fieristico che è diventato, anche in altri settori e in anni più recenti, di grande successo.

Infatti, Expo Riva Schuh nasce quasi per caso alla fine degli anni ‘60, quando cinque rappresentanti tedeschi di calzaturifici italiani iniziano a recarsi al lago due volte l’anno, con il campionario da mostrare ai clienti. Nel giro di pochi anni, i rappresentati crescono in modo esponenziale, dando vita a una vera e propria fiera, tanto che nel ‘73 si inizia a esporre nel nuovo Palazzo dei Congressi di Riva e, quattro anni dopo, appare il nome ufficiale: “Expo Riva Schuh”. Allora come oggi, la fiera ha mantenuto il suo carattere internazionale e il legame con il territorio e le strutture alberghiere di Riva del Garda che, ancora oggi, ospitano molti espositori e le loro collezioni. Abbiamo voluto ascoltare dalla viva voce di alcuni albergatori il ruolo che Expo Riva Schuh ha avuto nel corso di questi anni per la città di Riva, da una parte, e cosa la città di Riva ha da offrire come esperienza unica ed ‘extra lavoro’ ai visitatori ed espositori della fiera.

Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags e il territorio “Senza dubbio la fiera della calzatura genera un indotto importante per il territorio nel suo complesso, coinvolgendo ristoranti della zona, locali, bar, trasporti ecc. e naturalmente alberghi. Questo è particolarmente vero in inverno, quando il turismo ‘leisure’ della bella stagione subisce un fisiologico calo”, afferma Stella Feruli, titolare dell’Hotel Luise. Le fa eco Vanessa Miorelli, titolare dell’Astoria Resort , che afferma: “Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags rappresenta un appuntamento fisso nel panorama degli eventi fieristici dell’Alto Garda e con la sua portata riveste senza dubbio un ruolo importante per il nostro territorio. Anche Desy Cellana, Sales & Marketing di Lido Palace sottolinea l’importanza dell’appuntamento semestrale con Expo Riva Schuh: “Questo evento è in grado di generare un indotto importante a beneficio non solo di Fierecongressi, ma di tutto il settore turistico dell'Alto Garda”.

Some hotel managers explain the added value of this winning combination as follows.

Expo Riva Schuh has always defined itself as a “widespread exhibition” in close contact with the community and territory that hosts it: it was founded with this unique character, as a forerunner of the times, proposing a trade fair model that became, also more recently in other sectors, a resounding success.

In fact, Expo Riva Schuh was founded almost by chance at the end of the 60’s, when five German representatives of Italian footwear manufacturers began going to the lake twice a year, with sample collections to show their customers. In just a few years’ time, the number of representatives grew exponentially, giving life to a bona fide fair, while in ’73 they began exhibiting in the new Riva Congress Centre. Finally, four years later, the official name “Expo Riva Schuh” made its appearance. Now, as then, the fair has maintained its international character and ties with the territory and accommodation facilities of Riva del Garda, which continue today to host many of the exhibitors and their collections. We decided to listen to what some of these hotel managers had to say about the role Expo Riva Schuh has

played over the years for the city of Riva, and what the city of Riva has to offer as a unique and ‘outside of work’ experience to visitors and exhibitors at the fair.

Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags and the territory “Without a doubt this footwear fair generates an important source of revenue for the territory overall, involving local restaurants, bars, transportation, etc. and naturally hotels. This is especially true in the winter, when the ‘leisure’ tourism of the warmer seasons unsurprisingly drops off”, comments Stella Feruli, owner of Hotel Luise.

This sentiment is echoed by Vanessa Miorelli, owner of Astoria Resort, who confirms: “Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags represents a fixed rendezvous on the panorama of Alto Garda trade fair events, and with its standing, it undoubtedly takes on an important role in our territory. CEC: per un'industria calzaturiera resiliente e proiettata verso il futuro

La Confederazione Europea delle Calzature prosegue nel suo obiettivo di sostenere e promuovere il settore calzaturiero in Europa attraverso nuovi progetti e iniziative, tra cui spiccano di recente la sesta edizione del Forum Internazionale delle calzature (IFF) e la promozione del progetto digital Erasmus+ SHOEGAME dedicato alle nuove generazioni.

rosegue, ‘passo dopo passo’, l’impegno di CEC Confederazione Europea delle Calzature - a sostegno del settore, sempre più in un’ottica di innovazione, flessibilità al cambiamento e cooperazione globale. In questo quadro di intenti e attività, a marzo 2022, CEC ha così ospitato la sesta edizione del Forum Internazionale delle calzature (IFF), che dal 2014 mira a creare un dialogo regolare e strutturato tra i rappresentanti delle varie associazioni e camere del settore calzaturiero mondiale. In quest’ambito, i delegati da tutto il mondo hanno la possibilità di discutere apertamente delle esperienze affrontate dalle loro aziende e sul rapporto con le rispettive amministrazioni nazionali, nonché individuare iniziative congiunte e promuovere la cooperazione internazionale.

Quest’anno l'evento - che è stato organizzato in collaborazione con l'American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) e Footwear Distributors & Retailers of America (FDRA), e si è tenuto ancora in formato digitale - ha visto la partecipazione di 25 paesi, che hanno fatto il punto dello stato del commercio mondiale di calzature e delle insidie globali alla sua crescita.

Il segretario generale Carmen Arias, a nome del presidente della CEC Luis Onofre, ha in particolare fatto riferimento alle “montagne russe” che il settore sta vivendo dal 2020 a causa del Covid-19 e, più recentemente, alla terrificante invasione russa dell'Ucraina, difficoltà che si stanno però superando con una forte prova di resilienza da parte delle aziende calzaturiere.

Sempre con l’intento di sostenere concretamente l’industria della calzatura e nello specifico avvicinare le giovani generazioni a questo settore che sta invecchiando e non ha un adeguato ricambio generazionale, CEC ha anche promosso il progetto Erasmus+ SHOEGAME, “Developing Key Competencies in VET for the Footwear Industry through Serious Games”.

Realizzato in collaborazione con alcune scuole ed esperti del settore, il progetto è basato sullo sviluppo e l'implementazione di un gioco che, in modo educativo e divertente, avvicina i bambini e gli studenti alle professioni e ai valori dell'industria calzaturiera, conferendo loro tutta una serie di competenze trasversali, e in particolare ambientali, digitali e tecnologiche. Il gioco serio attirerà i nuovi arrivati ai corsi di formazione professionale e motiverà gli studenti che sono già iscritti a proseguire gli studi, oltre a contribuire alla flessibilità e alla qualità della formazione professionale, preparando gli insegnanti ad implementare la metodologia e gli strumenti sviluppato nelle loro pratiche di insegnamento.

CEC: for a resilient footwear manufacturing industry projected towards the future The European Footwear Confederation continues with its mission of supporting and promoting the footwear manufacturing industry in Europe through new projects and initiatives, including the sixth edition of the International Footwear Forum (IFF) and the promotion of the Erasmus+ SHOEGAME digital project dedicated to new generations.

Continuing ‘step-by-step’ are the efforts of CEC – the European Footwear Confederation – to support the sector, increasingly in a scope of innovation, ability to adapt, and global cooperation.

In this context of intents and activities, in March 2022, CEC hosted the sixth edition of the International Footwear Forum (IFF), which since 2014 has been aimed at sustaining a regular and structured dialogue between delegates from worldwide footwear associations and chambers.

It is accordingly possible for delegates from all over the world to openly discuss the experiences faced by their companies and their dialogue with their national administrations, as well as identify joint initiatives and promote international cooperation.

This year the event – which was organised in collaboration with the American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) and Footwear Distributors & Retailers of America (FDRA), was once more held in a digital format – with the participation of 25 countries, which exchanged views on the current state of global footwear trade and the global dangers to its growth.

Secretary General Carmen Arias, on behalf of CEC President Luis Onofre, referred to the “rollercoaster” that the industry has been experiencing since 2020 due to both the Covid-19 waves and, more recently, the terrifying Russian invasion of Ukraine: a difficulty that is being overcome with a strong proof of resilience from footwear companies. Matt Priest, FDRA President & CEO and moderator of the Forum, echoed the CEC words by emphasising also the importance of maintaining a global network to regularly meet, discuss and build common pathways.

Always with the intent of concretely supporting the footwear industry, while bringing younger generations closer to this sector, which is ageing and which does not have an adequate generational changeover, CEC promoted the Erasmus+ SHOEGAME, “Developing Key Competencies in VET for the Footwear Industry through Serious Games” project.

Developed in collaboration with some schools and experts in the sector, the project is based on the development and implementation of a serious game, with a fun and educational approach, that brings children and students closer to the occupations but also values of the footwear industry, while equipping them with a series of transversal skills, including especially environmental, digital and technological ones.

The serious game will attract newcomers to vocational training courses and motivate the students who are already enrolled to continue with their studies, as well as contribute to the flexibility and quality of the vocational training, by preparing teachers to implement the methodology and tools developed into their teaching practices.

Home living L’essersi abituati, nostro malgrado, ad abitare l’ambiente domestico per molto più tempo, magari a lavorarci, ha condotto anche il settore delle calzature da casa a studiare look più elaborati e colorati. La parola alle associazioni Le associazioni di categoria di alcuni dei Paesi più rappresentativi tra quelli presenti a Expo Riva Schuh offrono un quadro della situazione attuale e delle prospettive di sviluppo per il futuro, nonché degli sbocchi più interessanti, con un focus su prodotti e trendchiave del mercato.

uale manifestazione di carattere fortemente internazionale, Expo Riva Schuh vede da sempre, tra i suoi protagonisti-chiave, le associazioni di categoria dei rispettivi paesi partecipanti, attraverso le quali molte aziende possono prendere parte alla fiera e presentare i propri prodotti ai mercati di riferimento europei ed extra europei. In un momento in cui la pandemia ha segnato profondamente i mercati e condizionato le scelte e le abitudini di consumatori e aziende, è quindi quanto mai importante ascoltare dalla viva voce dei protagonisti che cosa è cambiato e quali sono le tendenze del prossimo futuro.

Situazione e prospettive del mercato Partendo da un fermoimmagine della situazione nel proprio Paese e delle prospettive di sviluppo, João Maia, General Manager di APICCAPS (Associazione portoghese industria della calzatura, componenti e articoli in pelle) afferma: “L'industria calzaturiera portoghese esporta il 95% della propria produzione nei mercati internazionali più esigenti, in particolare Germania, Francia e Paesi Bassi. La pandemia da COVID-19 ha portato alla chiusura, in più periodi, della vendita al dettaglio tradizionale in tutti questi mercati e, di conseguenza, ad una riduzione della nostra attività produttiva. Dalla fine del primo trimestre in poi, e con il processo di vaccinazione molto avanzato, questi mercati hanno iniziato a riaprire le loro economie e l'anno 2021 ha finito per registrare una crescita del 12% sui mercati esteri. La performance delle nostre industrie nell'ultimo trimestre del 2021 è stata la migliore mai registrata e l'inizio del 2022 è stato molto promettente, con una crescita delle vendite all'estero di oltre il 20% nei primi due mesi dell'anno”.

Anche Erkan Zandar, Presidente di Aegean Leather and Leather Products Exporters Association (Turchia), sottolinea come il processo di normalizzazione dell’Europa post pandemia, legato alla vaccinazione di massa, sia stato 98

l’inizio di un processo di ripresa economica di settore, che ha portato ai Paesi europei un vantaggio anche rispetto alla Cina: “In questo periodo di ripresa dell’economia europea, il fatto che la Cina sia ancora chiusa a causa della pandemia, ha costituito un elemento cruciale per il nostro paese, che si è avvantaggiato dei problemi legati all’approvvigionamento di filiera e ai lunghi tempi di consegna, proponendosi come un’alternativa interessante rispetto a quella asiatica per le richieste dei buyer interessati a ordini di piccola e media scala, ma anche per big buyer”.

Pur guardando oltre i confini europei, e in particolare al Brasile, la situazione del mercato calzaturiero appare in ripresa nel 2021, come ci conferma Leticia Sperb Masseli, Project Manager of Abicalçados: “L'industria calzaturiera ha registrato una ripresa nel 2021, con la produzione di calzature cresciuta del 9,8%, attestatasi a 806,3 milioni di paia. Un incremento stimolato principalmente dalla dinamica delle esportazioni, che sono cresciute del 31,8% al paio, superando addirittura del 7,3% il livello pre-pandemia: 123,7 milioni di paia di scarpe, pari a 900,3 milioni di dollari. Gli Stati Uniti, principale destinazione delle calzature brasiliane, hanno assorbito rispettivamente il 25,4% in valore e il 12,3% in volume, tanto che le esportazioni verso questa destinazione, nel 2021, sono risultate le più alte dell'ultimo decennio. Per il 2022 si prevede prosegua l’andamento di ripresa della produzione e di crescita delle esportazioni. Per la produzione, in particolare, si stimano tassi di crescita compresi tra 1,8% e 2,7%. L'aumento sarà trainato, soprattutto, dalle esportazioni di calzature, che dovrebbero crescere in volume con una media del 9,3% rispetto al 2021. In dollari, in uno scenario ottimistico, le esportazioni dovrebbero superare la soglia del miliardo di dollari”. In Europa, tuttavia, la ripresa del settore calzaturiero è oggi influenzata in modo decisivo dalla guerra in Ucraina e dal possibile scenario di instabilità che ne consegue, come conferma João Maia (APICCAPS): “Attualmente, le conseguenze dell'evoluzione del conflitto in Europa, l'aumento dei prezzi delle materie prime e l'inflazione, già molto alta in alcune regioni del mondo, sono temi cruciali e che dobbiamo tenere d'occhio”. Tematiche che sottolinea anche Nicola Tupputi, presidente del Consorzio Fashion Export Made in Italy: “Il sistema moda, nell'ultimo triennio, ha subito una forte contrazione a causa della pandemia e oggi la ripresa economica e commerciale appare fortemente condizionata dalla guerra in Ucraina e dagli aumenti delle materie prime, energetici e dei trasporti”.

Situazione con luci e ombre quella che riguarda la Turchia, come sottolinea Erkan Zandar (AEGEAN), che afferma: “Se da una parte osserviamo che la guerra russo-ucraina ha aumentato la domanda di calzature per il nostro Paese - in quanto i calzaturifici ucraini sono stati esclusi dalla filiera -, dall’altra il deprezzamento del rublo ha portato alla perdita di ordini da parte della Russia, per noi uno dei mercati di esportazione più importanti. Per questo motivo puntiamo a focalizzare la nostra attenzione sul resto d’Europa, proponendoci ai grandi compratori come paese di produzione e investimento”.

Canali e mercati di sbocco I due anni di pandemia hanno profondamente cambiato anche i canali di distribuzione e i paesi di riferimento dei diversi mercati, come ci conferma lo stesso Maia (APICCAPS): “Dal punto di vista dei canali distributivi, l’e-commerce è cresciuto notevolmente negli ultimi anni, a tutto vantaggio dei marchi che hanno saputo creare una solida base di clienti online, così come delle aziende, loro fornitrici, che hanno saputo sviluppare modelli di produzione incentrati sulle piccole serie e la velocità di risposta al mercato, fattori essenziali nelle vendite digitali”. “Dal punto di vista dei mercati, il Portogallo punta oggi a consolidare la propria presenza nei mercati europei più esigenti, ma anche continuare a perseguire strategie di crescita in mercati rilevanti come Canada, USA e Giappone”.

Sempre parlando di mercati, Erkan Zandar (AEGEAN) afferma: “Il 2021 è stato un anno in cui ci siamo concentrati in particolare sui mercati a basso volume di esportazione dalla nostra regione. Quindi, accanto all’Europa e al Regno Unito, ci siamo rivolti ad alcuni mercati esotici come il Kazakistan e la Mongolia. Nel prossimo futuro intendiamo incrementare il nostro volume di affari nei mercati in cui abbiamo relativamente poche interazioni commerciali e concentrare la nostra attenzione su mercati interessanti per i nostri associati come Australia, Corea del Sud, USA e Canada “.

Anche il Brasile, dopo l’avvento della pandemia, ha rivolto la propria attenzione a nuovi mercati alterativi agli Usa, che restano la piazza di riferimento per eccellenza: “Negli ultimi anni – afferma Leticia Sperb Masseli (Abicalçados) - i paesi dell'America Latina sono apparsi come attori importanti nella nostra strategia di esportazione, seguiti da quelli europei e mediorientali. Le nostre calzature sono comunque presenti in almeno 160 paesi nel mondo. Come Abicalçados, e in collaborazione con ApexBrasil, abbiamo un programma di internazionalizzazione del 99

settore che prevede l’elezione, ogni due anni, di mercati di riferimento per le nostre calzature, scelti mettendo in relazione le prospettive degli associati, con le indagini sui mercati potenziali. Attualmente, l'elenco dei mercatitarget comprende Stati Uniti, Colombia, Emirati Arabi Uniti, Francia e Regno Unito”.

Articoli e trend in crescita Guardando, invece, più da vicino il mercato e focalizzando la nostra attenzione sulla tipologia di prodotti e le tendenze che segnano il periodo, Maia (APICCAPS) afferma: “Negli ultimi due anni le preferenze dei consumatori sono cambiate a causa della pandemia, orientandosi principalmente su prodotti più legati al comfort e all'outdoor, mentre è diminuita la domanda di calzature eleganti e formali. È cresciuta la domanda di scarpe sportive, da lavoro e di sicurezza, così come l’attenzione verso prodotti sostenibili, un ambito nel quale anche il Portogallo ha deciso di investire, con lo stanziamento di 140 milioni di euro nei prossimi tre anni. Continueremo, inoltre, a focalizzare la nostra produzione su una calzatura di eccellenza, con un servizio di qualità, agile e adeguato alle piccole serie e ai piccoli ordini”.

Un’attenzione, quella verso la produzione sostenibile, confermata anche da Leticia Sperb Masseli (Abicalçados): “C'è un'altissima richiesta di prodotti realizzati con materiali sostenibili, ma anche la consapevolezza, da parte del consumatore mondiale, di come sia necessario che l’intero processo produttivo sia corretto sotto il profilo ambientale, economicamente sostenibile e socialmente equo. In questo contesto, l'industria calzaturiera brasiliana appare come un'importante alternativa a livello mondiale, perché i produttori brasiliani hanno da tempo investito molto in sostenibilità di prodotto, con lo sviluppo di linee, collezioni e marchi sostenibili, ma anche in relazione ai processi e alla gestione aziendale”. Anche il comfort 100

appare un trend in forte crescita: “Le aziende brasiliane si sono specializzate nel corso degli anni nel settore comfort, cercando di migliorare e incorporare sempre di più le tecnologie in grado di garantire il massimo benessere del piede per adulti e bambini, con l’introduzione di solette anatomiche, materiali hi-tech, sistemi di ammortizzazione tipici dello sport, ecc.”.

Per quanto riguarda, invece, la produzione calzaturiera in Turchia, Erkan Zandar (AEGEAN) afferma che la richiesta del mercato europeo, che è quello di riferimento, si focalizza in particolare su prodotti quotidiani in pelle e sul comfort, come scarpe da ginnastica, pantofole…

Le associazioni a Expo Riva Schuh Infine, abbiamo chiesto alle associazioni qual è il motivo principale per cui hanno scelto di partecipare con le loro collettive a Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags e quali sono le aspettative in termini di business e contatti. Zandar (AEGEAN) afferma con convinzione che: “Expo Riva Schuh è la fiera più importante ed efficiente d'Europa, grazie ad una base di prodotti a valore aggiunto e con una fascia di prezzo competitiva. Footwear trade associations have their say The trade associations of some of the most representative countries of footwear manufacturers present at Expo Riva Schuh offer a picture of the current situation, along with the perspectives for future development and the most interesting end markets, with a focus on products and key-trends in the market.

As an event of clear international scope, Expo Riva Schuh has always seen the trade associations of the respective participating countries star as some of its key-protagonists, allowing many companies to take part in the fair and present their products to the European and Non-EU markets of reference. During a moment when the pandemic has profoundly impacted the markets and influenced the choices and habits of consumers and companies, now more than ever before it is important to listen to what the protagonists have to say on what has changed and what will be the trends for the near future.

Starting from the end of the first quarter, with the vaccination process well underway, these markets began to reopen their economies and 2021 ended with a growth of 12% on foreign markets. The performance of our industries in the last quarter of 2021 was the best ever recorded and the beginning of 2022 was very promising, with a growth in foreign sales of over 20% during the first two months of the year”.

Erkan Zandar, President of Aegean Leather and Leather Products Exporters Association (Turkey), also underlines how the process of normalization in post-pandemic Europe, connected to mass vaccinations, was the beginning of a process of economic recovery for the sector, which has given European countries an advantage over China: “In this period of recovery for the European economy, the fact that China is still closed because of the pandemic has been of critical importance for our country, which has taken advantage of the problems connected to sourcing in the supply chain and long lead times, to propose itself as an interesting alternative to Asia for buyers interested in small and medium-sized lots of production, but also for big buyers”.

Even when looking beyond European borders, and especially towards Brazil, the situation of the footwear markets seemed on its way to recovery starting in 2021, as confirmed by Leticia Sperb Masseli, Project Manager of Abicalçados: “The footwear manufacturing industry recorded a recovery in 2021, with the production of shoes growing by 9.8% for 806.3 million pairs. pandemic levels by 7.3%: 123.7 million pairs of shoes, equal to 900.3 million dollars. The United States, the main destination for Brazilian footwear, respectively accounted for 25.4% in value and 12.3% in volume, with exports to this destination in 2021 representing the highest export number recorded in the last decade. In 2022, recovery in production and growth for exports is expected to continue. For production, in particular, a growth rate between 1.8% and 2.7% is estimated. This uptrend will be driven above all by footwear exports, which should grow in volume on an average of 9.3% compared to 2021. In dollars, in an optimistic scenario, exports should exceed the one-billion-dollar mark”.

Today, Europe, in spite of the recovery of the footwear sector, is still heavily impacted by the war in Ukraine and by the possible scenario of instability resulting from it, as confirmed by João Maia (APICCAPS): “Currently, the consequences of the evolving conflict in Europe, and the increase in the price of raw materials, along with inflation, which is already very high in some regions of the world, are critical themes that we must keep an eye on”. Themes also underlined by Nicola Tupputi, President of the Fashion Export Made in Italy Consortium: “Over the last three years, the fashion system has undergone a sharp downtrend because of the pandemic and today the economic and commercial recovery is strongly influenced by the war in Ukraine and by the increase in the price of raw materials, energy, and transportation”.

A situation with light and shadows is that of Turkey, as underlined by Erkan Zandar (AEGEAN), who confirms: “If from one end, we see that the Russian-Ukraine war has increased the demand for footwear from our country – since Ukrainian footwear manufacturers are currently excluded from the sup-

ply chain-, from the other end, the depreciation of the Ruble has led to a loss of orders from Russia, which for us is one of the most important export markets. For this reason, we will set our sights on the rest of Europe, proposing ourselves to big buyers as a country for production and investment”.

Channels and end markets Two years of pandemic have also profoundly changed distribution channels and the countries of reference of different markets, as confirmed by Maia (APICCAPS): “In terms of distribution channels, e-commerce has grown considerably over the last few years, and this is to the advantage of brands that knew how to create a solid base of online customers, just like the companies, their suppliers, knew how to develop production models based on small series with quick response time to market, which are essential factors in digital sales”. “In terms of markets, today Portugal is focused on reinforcing its presence in the most demanding European markets, but also continuing to follow strategies for growth in important markets like Canada, the USA, and Japan”.

Always in terms of markets, Erkan Zandar (AEGEAN) comments: “2021 was a year in which we focused in particular on low volume export markets from our region. So, next to Europe and the United Kingdom, we also focused on some exotic markets like Kazakhstan and Mongolia. In the near future, we intend to increase our business volume in markets where we have relatively few commercial interactions and focus on markets that are interesting for our members like Australia, South Korea, the USA and Canada”.

Even Brazil, after the outbreak of the pandemic, began focusing on new alternative markets to the USA, which remains the market of reference par excellence: “In recent years – confirms Leticia Sperb Masseli (Abicalçados) – the countries of Latin America have shown themselves to be important players in our export strategy, followed by European and Middle Eastern countries. Our shoes are in any case present in at least 160 countries worldwide. As Abicalçados, and in collaboration with ApexBrasil, we have a programme of internationalisation for the sector that calls for the election, every two years, of markets of reference for our footwear, which are chosen in accordance with the interests of our members and following an in-depth examination of the potential markets. Currently, the list of target markets includes the United States, Columbia, the United Arab Emirates, France, and the UK”.

CAPS) confirms: “Over the last two years, the preferences of consumers have changed because of the pandemic, with an orientation primarily towards products that are more closely connected to comfort and the outdoors, while the demand for elegant and formal footwear has dropped-off. The demand for athletic, occupational, and safety footwear has grown, along with the attention to sustainable products, a segment in which also Portugal has decided to invest, with the allocation of 140 million euros to it over the next three years. We will also continue to focus our production on footwear par excellence, with a quality, user-friendly service that is appropriate for small series and small orders”.

by Leticia Sperb Masseli (Abicalçados): “There is an extremely high demand for products made using sustainable materials, but also an awareness, by the global customer of how it is necessary for the entire productive process to be correct in its environmental profile, as well as economically sustainable and socially fair. In this context, the Brazilian footwear industry appears to be an important alternative on a worldwide level, because Brazilian producers have been invested for some time now in the sustainability of the product, with the development of sustainable lines, collections, and brands, but also processes and company management”. Even comfort appears to be a trend characterised by a strong growth rate: “Over the years, Brazilian companies have specialised themselves in the comfort sector, looking to increasingly improve and incorporate technologies capable of guaranteeing maximum well-being for the feet of adults and children, through the introduction of anatomic insoles, hi-tech materials, and systems of shock absorption typical of sports shoes, etc”.

Instead, as far as footwear production in Turkey is concerned, Erkan Zandar (AEGEAN) confirms that the demand of the European market, which is the one of reference for Turkey, is especially focused on daily wear products in leather and on comfort, like gym shoes, slippers…

The trade associations at Expo Riva Schuh Finally, we asked the associations what the main reason is for their participation with their collectives at Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags and what their expectations are in terms of business and contacts. Zandar (AEGEAN) confirms with conviction that: “Expo Riva Schuh is the most important and efficient fair in Europe, thanks to its product base with added value and a competitive price range. This is the reason why, after our first participation in January 2019, we are present today in this exhibition complex with an extensive delegation and our focus is on guaranteeing the continuity of our participation and on

reinforcing our connection with the fair over time, proposing ourselves as reliable and quality partners/suppliers for the European and Non-EU footwear market”.

Of the same opinion is also João Maia (APICCAPS): “Today, the Portuguese footwear industry exports over 95% of its production to 170 countries in all five continents. For this reason, the participation in international events is fundamental. Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags represents an event of reference for the sector, which deserves all our attention”.

“La moda non è un’arte, ma per fare vestiti bisogna essere artisti”, amava ripetere Yves Saint Laurent, lo stilista che, prima di ogni altro, ha fatto della contaminazione tra moda e arte il segno distintivo del suo stile.

sessant’anni esatti dalla sua prima sfilata, la città di Parigi lo celebra con ”Yves Saint Laurent aux Musées”, una mostra diffusa che coinvolge i sei più importanti musei della capitale francese: il Musée du Louvre, il Musée d'Orsay, il Centre Pompidou, il Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris, il Musée National Picasso-Paris e il Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris.

Un percorso espositivo inedito che mette in relazione le creazioni più iconiche della maison e le collezioni permanenti dei musei parigini. Appassionato collezionista e profondo conoscitore delle arti figurative, al punto da utilizzarle come fonte di ispirazione per le sue collezioni, Yves Saint Laurent ha costantemente omaggiato, durante tutta la sua carriera, artisti storici e contemporanei del calibro di Mondrian, Matisse, Picasso, Poliakoff, Warhol, Wesselman, Van Gogh, Vasarely e tanti altri. Come dimenticare, ad esempio, il celeberrimo Mondrian Dress, disegnato nel 1965, che riproduce le linee rigorose e geometriche del pittore olandese Mondrian, padre del Neoplasticismo, conservato oggi come opera d’arte al Victoria and Albert Museum di Londra. Del resto, lo stilista franco-algerino ha iniziato la sua scalata verso il successo negli anni Sessanta, il decennio più prolisso di contaminazioni della storia. Sono gli anni della rivoluzione culturale e sessuale, dei movimenti studenteschi e di uno stile di vita più liberale che si riflette nella moda dei primi mini-abiti, dello streetwear, della costante fusione tra alto e basso.

In controtendenza rispetto alla giovane generazione di stilisti, soprattutto londinesi, che traevano ispirazione dalle contestazioni diffuse nelle vie della capitale inglese, al di qua della Manica, più o meno negli stessi anni, Yves Saint Laurent sceglie di entrare in gallerie e musei per liberarsi dai confini del passato e adottare un approccio alla moda più moderno. E, così, un dipinto bidimensionale diventa un abito tridimensionale, visivamente potente almeno quanto l'opera originale.

La stampa geometrica a blocchi di colore su abiti in lana e jersey senza colletto e senza maniche appariva come un'idea semplice, ma racchiudeva in verità una notevole complessità tecnica.

Il color-blocking seguiva le linee naturali del corpo, rendendo le cuciture invisibili a occhio nudo. L’abito ebbe un successo clamoroso, soprattutto negli Stati Uniti, al punto che monsieur Yves diede in licenza il modello, dando origine così a tonnellate di imitazioni di massa dell'abito couture e contribuendo, ironia della sorte, a rendere una star globale il pittore olandese.

Il legame tra arte e moda è ancestrale, eppure nessuno si era mai spinto a svelarne in maniera così lampante l’estro e l’ispirazione. Dopo Mondrian, è la volta della collezione Autunno/Inverno 1966 ispirata alla Pop Art di Andy Warhol, della favolosa collezione Bambara del 1967 influenzata dall'arte africana, e poi ancora, Henri Matisse per l'Autunno/Inverno 1981, e le giacche ricamate per la Primavera/Estate 1988 che raffigurano l'iride e i girasoli di Vincent Van Gogh.

La mostra ”Yves Saint Laurent aux Musées” non celebra solo il percorso creativo di Yves Saint Laurent e il profondo rapporto con le arti figurative ma ci racconta, soprattutto, che la lezione del couturier non è andata persa.

Spesso gli stilisti si sono rivolti all’arte per creare collezioni uniche, eterne. Lo stesso hanno fatto alcuni artisti che hanno trovato nella moda un mezzo di espressione e di comunicazione. Un’affinità atavica che è sempre stata sottesa, ma mai la moda era entrata in maniera così eclatante all’interno delle più importanti istituzioni culturali del pianeta. Non è una questione solo storica, ma più che mai attuale.

Dopo decenni in cui ci è stato insegnato a trovare inspirazione nelle strade delle grandi metropoli con l’innesto anche nell’haute couture di elementi presi dallo streetwear, da qualche anno si assiste ad un’inversione di tendenza abbastanza diffusa. Basti pensare a Maria Grazia Chiuri che, da quando è direttore creativo di Dior, si è impegnata ad implementare l’immagine della maison attraverso l’arte, creando un Cultural Office che la supporta nelle ricerche storico-artistiche che saranno poi fonte di ispirazione per le sue collezioni. O a Louis Vuitton che negli anni ha fatto ridisegnare le sue borse più iconiche dalle più importanti arti-star internazionali.

Gli esempi sono talmente tanti che è impossibile elencarli tutti, ma allora qual è la più grande lezione che possiamo apprendere da monsieur Yves? Semplice: se hai bisogno di ispirazione entra in un museo!

ets of the English capital, on this side of the English Channel, more or less in the same years, Yves Saint Laurent chose to enter galleries and museums to free himself from the boundaries of the past and take a more modern approach to fashion.

And, in this way, a two-dimensional painting becomes a threedimensional dress, visually powerful at least as much as the original work. The geometric colour block print on collarless and sleeveless wool and jersey dresses seemed like a simple idea, but it actually contained considerable technical complexity. Colour-blocking followed the natural lines of the body, making the seams invisible to the naked eye.

The dress was a resounding success, especially in the United States, to the point that Monsieur Yves licensed the pattern, thus giving rise to tons of mass imitations of the couture dress and contributing, irony of fate, to making the Dutch painter become globally known. The bond between art and fashion is ancestral, yet no one had ever gone so far as to reveal its flair and inspiration so clearly. After Mondrian, it is the turn of the Autumn/Winter 1966 collection inspired by Andy Warhol’s Pop Art, of the fabulous Bambara collection of 1967 influenced by African art, and then again, Henri Matisse for Autumn/Winter 1981, and the embroidered jackets for Spring/Summer 1988 depicting the iris and sunflowers by Vincent Van Gogh.

The exhibition “Yves Saint Laurent aux Musées” does not just celebrate the creative path of Yves Saint Laurent and the profound relationship with figurative arts but tells us, above all, that the couturier’s lesson has not been lost. Often stylists have turned to art to create unique, eternal collections. The same has been done by some artists who have found in fashion a means of expression and communication.

An atavistic affinity that has always been implied, but never had fashion entered in such a striking way within the most important cultural institutions on the planet. It is not just a historical matter, but one that persists even today more than ever.

After decades in which we have been taught to find inspiration in the streets of large cities with the addition of elements taken from streetwear in haute couture, for some years we have been witnessing a fairly widespread reversal of trend. Just think of Maria Grazia Chiuri who, since her position of creative director of Dior, has committed herself to implementing the image of the maison through art, creating a Cultural Office that supports her in the historical-artistic research which will then be a source of inspiration for its collections.

Or of Louis Vuitton which over the years has had its most iconic bags redesigned by the most important international arts-stars.

There are so many examples that it is impossible to list them all, but what is the greatest lesson we can learn from Monsieur Yves? Simple: if you need inspiration, enter a museum!

La legge sulla tracciabilità per la moda sostenibile di NY: i suoi effetti in Italia

l settore della moda sta per subire una vera rivoluzione. Il suo futuro è legato al Fashion Sustainability and Social Accountability Act, meglio conosciuto come Fashion Act. Questo documento si trova al vaglio della commissione legislativa dello Stato di New York e, se verrà approvato e convertito in legge, scatenerà i suoi effetti in tutto il mondo, anche in Italia. Si tratta di un disegno di legge per richiedere alle aziende che si occupano di moda di tracciare e comunicare ufficialmente il loro impatto ambientale, prendendo in considerazione tutta la filiera. Si tratta di una misura che calcola l’impatto ambientale e sociale delle filiere produttive per renderle trasparenti. Nonostante le criticità, questa transizione consentirà di fare concreti passi avanti in termini di sostenibilità. Ne parla Francesca Rulli, esperta in sostenibilità, CEO della società di servizi Process Factory e ideatrice di 4sustainability, sistema e marchio che misura e attesta la sostenibilità delle filiere del fashion & luxury.

Il Fashion Act avrà un forte impatto su tutta la filiera della moda e i suoi operatori. Imporrà alle aziende di tracciare e monitorare la loro catena di approvvigionamento per assicurarsi che vengano rispettati i requisiti di sostenibilità ed eticità.

Che cosa comporta l’entrata in vigore del Fashion Act? “Il Fashion Act imporrà alle aziende del settore moda di mappare almeno il 50% della loro catena di approvvigionamento, identificando gli impatti in termini di emissioni di gas serra, consumo idrico e uso di sostanze chimiche.

Inoltre, sarà impegno delle imprese stesse fissare dei precisi target di riduzione dei consumi energetici e delle emissioni, comunicare la quantità e la tipologia delle materie prime che ricevono dai fornitori e la percentuale di materiali riciclati.

Dal punto di vista etico e sociale, invece, dovranno essere rese note le condizioni di lavoro e le retribuzioni percepite dai lavoratori, assicurando che siano adeguate almeno al salario di sussistenza. Se questi requisiti, sostenibili ed etici, non vengono rispettati la multa potrà ammontare anche al 2% dei ricavi annui.

Questa normativa, anche se emanata dallo Stato di New York, si applicherà a tutte le aziende di moda che hanno un fatturato globale superiore ai 100 milioni di dollari,

che hanno una sede entro i confini di New York o che fanno affari lì. In poche parole, a tutti i brand di moda, dal lusso al fast fashion”.

Qual è la reazione degli operatori del settore?

“Sia i noti brand internazionali, che dal prossimo anno potrebbero dover mappare tutta una serie di dati che ancora non conoscono, sia le imprese della filiera che lavorano con loro e dovranno soddisfare quelle richieste, si stanno già attivando per capire come muoversi.

Inoltre, questa legge andrà ad incrociarsi con la direttiva europea sulla due diligence, cioè sul dovere di vigilanza da parte delle aziende sulle questioni ambientali, sociali e di governance. La novità portata dal Fashion Act consiste nel far ricadere sulle aziende la responsabilità non solo di quello che fanno in prima persona, ma anche di tutto quello che succede lungo la loro catena di valore.

Tracciare l’impatto ambientale e sociale significa mettere in evidenza il modo in cui viene realizzato il profitto e qual è il comportamento sul mercato degli operatori del settore”.

Quali saranno le conseguenze concrete?

“L’Italia è un paese avanzato dal punto di vista delle normative in fatto di sostenibilità, siamo molto attenti all’argomento, ma è necessario continuare ad agire sulla formazione e su un cambio di mentalità. L’attenzione alla sostenibilità sta crescendo in modo esponenziale, già molti brand hanno chiesto ai propri fornitori delle garanzie in materia di impatto ambientale, uso di sostanze chimiche, condizioni di lavoro dignitose e così via.

Il limite, nella maggior parte dei casi, è che il brand entra in relazione solo con i suoi fornitori diretti, mentre ciò che verrà chiesto sarà la tracciabilità dell’intera filiera, cioè di avere conoscenza e poter garantire anche per quei subfornitori che si trovano a monte della catena di produzione.

Il brand dovrà mappare tutti gli anelli della catena, valutando il suo impatto e collegandolo all’impatto dei singoli prodotti emessi sul mercato. I fornitori, da parte loro, dovranno essere in grado di comunicare ai brand i dati richiesti.

Questo coinvolge l’Italia direttamente, essendo un paese manifatturiero. In molti distretti, come Prato, Biella e Como, sono già state avviate delle azioni volte a misurare l’uso della chimica, le emissioni di CO2, il consumo dell’acqua e altri indicatori, ma c’è ancora tanta strada da fare”.

Esistono già degli strumenti per tenere traccia di tutti i dati richiesti?

“Esistono degli strumenti per tenere traccia di questi dati, così come ci sono diverse certificazioni con cui le imprese possono testimoniare il proprio impegno in termini di sostenibilità. Adesso, però, c’è un passo in più da fare, cioè mettere a sistema tutti questi elementi, condividerli e comunicarli in maniera trasparente.

A questo scopo, 4sustainability ha sviluppato una piattaforma digitale ad hoc per le aziende che vi aderiscono.

Si tratta di uno strumento che mira al coinvolgimento di tutta la filiera: i fornitori dovranno effettuare una misurazione quali-quantitativa di dati ambientali e sociali, inoltre dovranno aggiornare gli indicatori delle performance. Queste informazioni potranno essere consultate dal brand o da altri anelli della catena più a valle e, in questo modo, avverrà una condivisione trasparente”.

The Fashion Act is unique in that it holds firms accountable not just for what they do in person, but also for everything that occurs along their value chain. Tracing the environmental and social impact entails identifying how profit is earned and the market behaviour of industry players."

What does the entry into force of the Fashion Act entail?

“The Fashion Act will mandate that fashion companies record at least at 50 percent of their supply chain, identifying the impact of greenhouse gas emissions, water consumption, and chemical use. Furthermore, enterprises must commit to setting specific goals for lowering energy consumption and emissions, as well as communicating the quantity and type of raw materials they get from suppliers and the percentage of recycled materials.

However, from an ethical and social standpoint, employees' working conditions and remuneration must be disclosed, guaranteeing that they are at least adequate to the living wage. If these sustainable and ethical needs are not satisfied, a fine of up to 2% of yearly earnings may be imposed.

Regardless of whether it is enacted by the State of New York, this legislation will apply to any fashion firms with a global turnover of more than $ 100 million, have a headquarters in New York City, or conduct business there. In a nutshell, all fashion labels, from high-end to fast fashion”.

What are the reactions of the operators in this sector?

“Both well-known multinational brands, which may have to record a complete series of data they don't yet know as early as next year, and supply chain companies that interact with them 166

What will the concrete consequences be?

“Italy is a leading country in terms of sustainability rules and, we pay close attention to the problem, but more training and a shift in mindset are required. Attention to sustainability is growing, and m any brands have already asked their suppliers for guarantees on environmental impact, chemical use, and good working conditions, among other things.

In most situations, the brand's limit is that it only interacts with direct suppliers, although what will be demanded is complete traceability of the supply chain, which means knowing and being able to guarantee even subcontractors further upstream in the manufacturing chain.

The brand will have to record all the connections in the value chain, assess its influence, and link it to the impact of specific products out on the market. Suppliers, for their part, must be able to provide the brands with the information they require.

Italy is directly involved because it is a manufacturing country.

Many districts, including Prato, Biella, and Como, have already begun to track chemical use, CO2 emissions, water use, and other indicators, but there is still much work to be done”.

Are there any tools in place to keep track of all the necessary information?

“There are tools to keep track of this information, as well as several certifications that companies may use to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability. However, there is still one more step to take, which is to systematize, exchange, and convey all of these pieces transparently.

For this purpose, 4sustainability has created an ad hoc digital platform for companies that join it. It's a technology that intends to engage the entire supply chain: suppliers will be required to measure environmental and social data qualitatively and quantitatively, as well as update performance indicators. This information can be examined by the brand or other downstream links in the chain, resulting in transparent sharing”.

Dall’evento emerge come il digital marketing rappresenti il motore dell’E-commerce di oggi, soprattutto quando ci si rivolge alla Generazione Z: uno strumento capace di lanciare nuove sfide non solo alla comunicazione, ma all’intera supply chain. “Le aziende devono essere in grado di affrontare le sfide di oggi e del prossimo futuro nel digital marketing – afferma Roberto Liscia, Presidente di Netcomm - , dove il target-chiave è rappresentato dalla Generazione Z, che comprende i nati tra il 1997 e il 2012. Obiettivi e sfide per il digital marketing Per i player dei canali online, il digital marketing è decisivo, soprattutto per conquistare quote di eShopper, oltre che per promuovere i prodotti e il proprio brand, e la qualità viene prima della quantità: per il 93% delle aziende di e-commerce in Italia, infatti, nei canali digitali vincono le aziende che hanno le competenze e le capacità migliori, piuttosto che le aziende che investono importanti budget in advertising. Tuttavia, tra le sfide future del digital marketing, quella di ottenere più budget e più investimenti è 168

la principale (per oltre il 70% del campione), seguita dal bisogno di sviluppare le competenze e il team di digital marketing (per quasi il 65%), dallo sviluppo dell’export (per il 57%) e l’adeguata gestione delle tecnologie applicative per il digital marketing (per il 50%).

Canali e tecniche di digital marketing più usati Per la metà delle aziende di e-commerce, l’impatto dell’era cookieless sul digital marketing, ovvero il nuovo scenario che vede la fine dell'uso dei cookie di terze parti, sarà significativo. Per oltre l’80% delle aziende, i canali di digital marketing più utilizzati sono i social con le proprie pagine, il keyword adv nei motori di ricerca e l’email marketing con il proprio database. Per circa il 55% delle aziende, inoltre, retargeting sui social o altri canali, performance marketing e content marketing sono le tecniche di digital marketing più adottate; le tecniche di drive to store risultano complessivamente usate dal 36% del campione, ma se si considera solo l’85% del campione che ha anche i canali fisici (e.g. i negozi), il dato sale al 43%.

Per il 60% degli intervistati, il traffico derivante da canali paid vale tra il 10% e il 50% del totale traffico e-commerce.

Le tecnologie applicate al digital marketing Benché il 77% delle aziende riconosce che il digital marketing sia sempre più una questione di tecnologia e applicazioni, solo il 58% dichiara di aver raggiunto un buon livello di sviluppo tecnologico del digital marketing, tale da ritenerlo un punto di forza dell’azienda. Le tecnologie più utilizzate dalle aziende sono le Web Analytics e strumenti di tracciamento evoluti (58%); l’integrazione dei dati dei canali digitali con il CRM aziendale e di altri canali (53%), e strumenti di intelligenza artificiale (45%). Le aree di maggior interesse per l’utilizzo dei big data sono la personalizzazione dei messaggi pubblicitari e di marketing e di tutte le interazioni del marketing, in significativa crescita rispetto al 2018. I big data sono poi utilizzati per aumentare le performance di tutte le campagne di adv e sono in particolare aumento l’intenzione di usare i big data per costruire modelli predittivi e di attribuzione.

Stanno sui social media e seguono gli influencer, sono multimediali, ma non percepiscono un confine tra offline e online e sentono l’esigenza di recarsi su un punto vendita fisico, dove si aspettano esperienze avanzate e di toccare con mano i prodotti: anche per questo, la generazione Z è quella pronta per il Metaverso, per estendere la propria vita, anche reale, per socializzare e fare acquisti. Per raggiungere la Gen Z bisogna lavorare con i diversi canali in profondità, mappando comportamenti e interessi. I social sono una vetrina importante per i prodotti e il passo tra segnalazione, comunicazione e click per comprare è molto breve, anche se in Italia, i social devono ancora costruire un modello di business che funzioni, come avviene invece in altri Paesi come la Cina. Gli esperti, poi, ritengono che ci sia un legame tra Social Commerce e Live Commerce e che forse il Live Commerce darà la volata ai Social per aprire modelli di social e-commerce anche nel nostro Paese.

Generazione Z I giovani nati tra il 1997 e il 2012 sono uno dei targetchiave e lo sarà per i prossimi 20 anni, benché in Italia costituisca una percentuale più limitata rispetto ad altri Paesi, in particolare asiatici. Now in its second edition is the digital event “Digital Marketing Focus for E-commerce and New Retail” by Netcomm – The Digital Commerce Consortium in Italy -, based on a survey conducted in November 2021 with a sample of 41 e-commerce channels selected as representative of the Italian e-commerce panorama. From the event, it emerged how digital marketing represents the engine of E-commerce today, above all with regards to Generation Z: a tool capable of launching new challenges not only for communication, but also for the entire supply chain. “Companies must be able to face the present-day and future challenges of digital marketing – confirms Roberto Liscia, President of Netcomm -, where the key target is represented by Generation Z, which includes those born between 1997 and 2012. For the players of online channels, digital marketing is decisive, above all when it comes to conquering the shares of eShoppers and promoting the products and brand itself, with quality coming before quantity: for 93% of the e-commerce companies in Italy, the winners are in fact those with the best skills and abilities in managing digital channels, and not the companies that invest a large amount of their budget in advertising. Nevertheless, among the future challenges of digital marketing, the most difficult is setting aside a larger budget with more extensive investments (for over 70% of the sample), followed by the need to develop digital marketing skills and a dedicated team (for almost 65%), develop the export channel (for 57%), and correctly manage applied technologies for digital marketing (for 50%).

in approaching this target must accordingly be very careful about the factor of ‘uniqueness’, while also offering quality at the right price and focusing on products that transmit the right values.

Physical and digital channels for Gen Z Generation Z looks for products online but follows the advice of friends in their final purchasing decisions. They are on social media and follow influencers, are multimedia-oriented, and do not perceive a division between offline and online channels, while preferring to go to physical stores, where they expect an advanced experience and the possibility to touch the products with their own hands: also for this reason, Generation Z is ready for the Metaverse to expand their experiences, including real-life ones, while offering opportunities for socialization and purchasing. To arrive at Gen Z, it’s important to work with different channels extensively, mapping different behaviours and interests. Social networks are an important showcase for products and it’s just a short step from recommendation to communication, and click & buy, even if in Italy, social networks have not yet constructed a business model that works, like it does in other countries like China. Experts feel that there is a connection between Social Commerce and Live Commerce and that maybe Live Commerce will be the turning point for Social Networks to launch social e-commerce models also in our country.

SIMEST supporta Pantofola d’Oro per €1 milione

La società del Gruppo CDP finanzia la crescita internazionale dello storico marchio di calzature sportive, testimonianza dell’eccellenza e dell’hand-made italiano nel mondo.

ttraverso il Fondo 394, gestito in convenzione con il Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale, la società del Gruppo CDP ha finanziato nell’ultimo anno l’azienda marchigiana di calzature per oltre 1 milione di euro, di cui il 10% circa a valere sui recenti stanziamenti del Piano Nazionale di Ripresa e Resilienza (PNRR).

Grazie a questo finanziamento, Pantofola d’Oro ha potuto investire sull’immagine e ampliare la propria notorietà, partecipando alle ultime due edizioni di Pitti Immagine Uomo, oltre che potenziare la propria presenza digitale grazie alla 182

nuova piattaforma e-commerce rivolta al Nord America, mercato di sbocco tra i più rilevanti per il Made in Italy.

“L’intero mercato legato al tempo libero ha subito un forte rallentamento durante gli ultimi due anni, legato alle restrizioni logistiche che sono state imposte – in momenti e modalità differenti – in tutto il mondo – ha dichiarato Kim Williams, Amministratore Delegato di Pantofola d’Oro – Il supporto di SIMEST ci ha consentito di investire su nuovi modelli realizzati con materiali sostenibili, di promuovere il nostro marchio sui mercati internazionali, valorizzando l’artigianalità della nostra produzione eseguita interamente in Italia e di potenziare il canale di e-commerce diretto agli USA, che ci permetterà di offrire, anche on-line, prodotti e servizi sempre più esclusivi”.

Ricordiamo che Pantofola d’Oro, nei suoi che oltre 130 anni di storia, ha scritto pagine importanti nell’ambito delle calzature da calcio, con un costante impegno in ricerca e innovazione che hanno portato il marchio ad espandersi, fino a includere nella propria offerta prodotti casual, sempre però realizzati interamente a mano in Italia. Un patrimonio di eccellenza e un know-how che Simest ha voluto tutelare e promuovere: la collaborazione fra SIMEST e Pantofola d’oro è, infatti, iniziata già nel 2018, quando è stata finanziata l’apertura del primo negozio monomarca Pantofola D’Oro in USA, nel quartiere Soho a New York.

In its 130-plus years of history, Pantofola d’Oro has written important pages in the field of football shoes, while maintaining a constant commitment to research and innovation that has allowed the brand to grow and eventually arrive at the inclusion of casual products in its proposal, which remain however completely handmade in Italy. Thanks to the collaboration with Gore-Tex, the Swedish company makes headway on the market with a breathable and waterproof product, capable of combining functionality, style and comfort with an urban look.

Its symbol, which also recalls its name, is a ferret, the wild little animal that lives in the woods of north Scandinavia. It’s no coincidence that POLECAT, in fact, was first founded in the cold climate of Sweden 13 years ago. The turning point in the brand’s strategy occurred 2 years ago when it began its collaboration with Gore-Tex with the aim of proposing hightech and high-quality shoes destined to endure over time for men, women, and children. These are the origins of shoes for Him and for Her that combine a Gore-Tex breathable and waterproof upper with a running insole, and high slip-resistance trekking outsole designed to offer high performance also in the city.

“Cara materia prima, ma quanto mi costi?”

In un recente seminario, Assomac con Assolombarda affronta il tema, quanto mai attuale e spinoso, dell’aumento dei prezzi dell’energia e delle materie prime, nonché le difficoltà di approvvigionamento sui mercati mondiali, valutando le conseguenze per l’industria manifatturiera e i possibili scenari futuri.

l 21 febbraio scorso (pochi giorni prima dell’invasione dell’Ucraina da parte della Russia, n.d.r.), il Centro Studi di Assomac ha presentato un seminario, in collaborazione con Assolombarda, sul tema oggi cruciale dell’aumento dei prezzi dell’energia e della penuria delle materie prime, fattori che influenzano negativamente le prospettive di crescita dell’industria manifatturiera, già duramente messa alla prova dall’avvento della pandemia.

La reattività dell’industria manifatturiera italiana Ad aprire i lavori è stata Valeria Negri, Direttore del Centro Studi di Assolombarda, che è partita dalla constatazione della grande reattività dimostrata dall’industria manifatturiera italiana nell’affrontare la crisi pandemica: a marzo-aprile 2020, infatti, in soli due mesi, la produzione del settore manifatturiero italiano nel suo complesso ha toccato il punto più basso, segnando un -43%, ma ha anche dimostrato una forte resilienza e capacità di reazione, con grande sorpresa degli stessi analisti, che ha permesso di riposizionarsi in breve tempo a livelli pre-Covid, segnando una curva a ‘V’ da perfetto manuale di economia. Nella crisi del 2008, invece, l’andamento della produzione manifatturiera italiana mostra una curva a L, con effetti che, anche se meno forti nell’immediato, sono perdurati nel tempo, tanto che si è perso il 15-18% della capacità produttiva del paese. Valeria Negri sottolinea, inoltre, come non possa che essere motivo di orgoglio per il manifatturiero italiano la performance del quarto trimestre 2021, dove si delineano risultati migliori rispetto ai principali benchmark europei, con una crescita dell’1,6% sul periodo pre-Covid, contro -4,6% della Germania, -1,0% della Spagna, - 5,2% della Francia. A dimostrazione di come, oggi, il manifatturiero tricolore abbia una competitività che nel 2008 mancava, confermata anche dai dati da record dell’export del 2021.

Che cosa è cambiato? Cosa ha determinato questa maggiore competitività? Da una ricerca di Assolombarda di metà 2021, emerge che - su oltre 1300 imprese manifatturiere -, 1/3 di queste aveva rivisto la composizione e il numero dei propri fornitori, accorciando la catena di fornitura.

Guardando, tuttavia, i dati del 2022, vediamo come si delinei un rallentamento e una perdita di slancio della produzione manifatturiera in tutta Europa, processo iniziato già a partire dalla fine del 2021, a causa di tre principali fattori di rischio: l’aumento dei costi delle materie prime (in media del 40%), l’aumento del costo dell’energia, l’andamento della pandemia. Tornando, però, a guardare più nello specifico l’Italia, almeno per il momento, vediamo come l’impatto della penuria di materie prime e dei semilavorati sulla produzione sia meno severo che in altri Paesi (come,

ad esempio, in Germania) e il rincaro dei prezzi sia stato in gran parte assorbito dalle filiere, con una riduzione dei margini per le imprese. In questo quadro generale, si inserisce come ultimo ostacolo alla crescita della produzione manifatturiera in Italia l’annoso e strisciante problema della scarsità di manodopera qualificata, che oggi interessa quasi il 40% delle imprese italiane.

L’aumento dei prezzi delle materie prime e dei beni intermedi Matteo Laffi, funzionario dell’Area Centro Studi di Assolombarda, ha approfondito la riflessione sull’aumento dei prezzi delle materie prime e dei beni intermedi. Laffi ha precisato come la causa scatenante di questo aumento dei prezzi sia individuabile nell’eccesso di domanda, rispetto all’offerta, a seguito dello scoppio della pandemia. Più nel dettaglio, le materie prime che hanno segnato l’aumento maggiore sono state: ferro (+60%), acciaio (+60%), alluminio (+70%), rame (+50%), ma soprattutto legno (+150%).

Messaggi-chiave in questo contesto sono: l’aumento dei prezzi delle materie prime è un fenomeno su scala mondiale e non relativo al singolo paese; i prezzi di tutte le materie prime considerate nell’analisi hanno registrato notevoli aumenti rispetto al periodo pre-Covid, ma alcuni prodotti semilavorati e materie prima hanno di recente raggiunto il picco, segnando un’inversione di tendenza (ad esempio rame e bronzo), anche se si tratta di un trend che deve ancora consolidarsi.

I punti ‘caldi’ della filiera per Assomac e le imprese associate Fornitura - Aumento dei prezzi delle materie prime e semilavorati - Problemi di approvvigionamento dei beni intermedi: secondo i dati della Banca Centrale Europea, l’indice PMI SDT (Purchasing Managers Index Suppliers Delivery Times) mostra un allungamento dei tempi di consegna particolarmente marcato nelle economie avanzate e nei settori dei macchinari e delle attrezzature, nonché delle attrezzature tecnologiche. Le cause sono l’interruzione delle catene di approvvigionamento (soprattutto a inizio crisi Covid coi blocchi logistici e il lockdown), e l’aumento della domanda, avvenuta soprattutto dopo la ripresa post Covid. Quali le conseguenze? Cadute di produzione ed export, aumento dell’inflazione. Ne è un esempio eclatante il ‘Chip shortage’ (mancanza di componenti elettronici).

Messaggi chiave e scenari: ci si aspetta un graduale assorbimento del problema del blocco della supply chain, ma non si può prescindere dal considerare l’andamento del

Covid, soprattutto con riferimento alle strategie ‘Zero Covid’ adottate dalla Cina.

Produzione L’aumento del prezzo dell’energia elettrica e del gas: il petrolio è aumentato del +65%, il gas naturale del +317%. Il prezzo dell’energia elettrica in Italia è strettamente collegato a quello del gas, perché c’è una forte dipendenza dal gas nel mix energetico, e per un meccanismo di formazione del prezzo; il prezzo dell’energia elettrica in Italia è così aumentato del +269%. In questo quadro, l’Italia è svantaggiata rispetto agli altri paesi europei (es. Francia +255%, Spagna 235%, Germania +218%). Per le imprese, ciò comporta, in prospettiva, un fortissimo incremento dei costi dell’energia elettrica, costi che possono solo in parte essere limitati da un efficientamento dei processi produttivi e che, in massima parte, porteranno a una compressione dei margini e a un aumento dei prezzi a valle, con il rischio di perdita di competitività. Dato particolarmente grave per le imprese dal forte export. Il Governo potrebbe adottare ulteriori misure ‘tampone’, ma solo con politiche a lungo termine si può ridurre il rischio futuro.

Distribuzione Costi di spedizione e logistica: le spedizioni marittime via container sono aumentate del 95% nell’ultimo anno, ma anche le spedizioni via gomma sono rincarate a causa degli aumenti del costo dei carburanti e dell’energia elettrica (gestione magazzini); più costoso anche il materiale per imballaggi e spedizioni. Gli esperti si attendono un riassorbimento dei costi sulle spedizioni marittime, ma non su quelle via gomma.

Previsioni per l’Italia nel 2022 L’aumento dei prezzi e le difficoltà di approvvigionamento si sono acuiti dopo l’inizio del conflitto Russia-Ucraina mettendo seriamente in difficoltà le imprese italiane e gelando la produzione industriale. Il CSC (Centro Studi Confindustria) stima un calo della produzione industriale italiana a marzo (-2,0%), dopo il rimbalzo statistico di febbraio (+4,0%) legato alla caduta a dicembre e gennaio. I prezzi delle commodity, in particolare quello del gas naturale (+698% in media ad aprile rispetto al pre-Covid) e del Brent (+56%), sono ancora elevati, frenando l’attività produttiva lungo tutte le filiere. Le indagini sul sentiment imprenditoriale e le ridimensionate dinamiche di ordini e attese delle imprese non lasciano intravedere miglioramenti significativi nel breve termine. rileva a marzo una flessione della produzione industriale di -2,0%, dopo il rimbalzo registrato a febbraio (+4,0%), che ha seguito la caduta di gennaio (-3,4%) e dicembre (-1%).

Nel 1° trimestre 2022, quindi, il CSC stima una diminuzione della produzione industriale di -1,6% rispetto al 4° trimestre del 2021. L’ulteriore calo della produzione rilevato dal CSC in aprile (-2,5%) porta la variazione acquisita per il 2° trimestre a -2,5%, pregiudicando la dinamica del PIL italiano nel 2° trimestre, dopo la flessione nel 1°. Gli ordini in volume diminuiscono a marzo di -0,6% su febbraio, ad aprile di -0,4%. Dopo il dato positivo di febbraio, prevalentemente dovuto ad un effetto base statistico, continuano ad incidere i fattori che ostacolavano l’attività produttiva italiana già prima della guerra (rincari delle materie prime, scarsità di materiali), che nel 1° trimestre si sono confermati molto rilevanti. L’insufficienza percepita di impianti e/o materiali si eÌ significativamente acuita. I giudizi sui principali ostacoli alle esportazioni sono ancora negativi.

La percentuale di imprese manifatturiere che hanno segnalato difficoltà in termini di costi e prezzi più elevati e tempi di consegna più lunghi eÌ rimasta elevata, sebbene in attenuazione rispetto al 4° trimestre del 2021.

“Dear raw material, you cost me a fortune!”

In a recent seminar, Assomac jointly with Assolombarda addresses the very topical and thorny issue of the price increase of energy and raw materials, as well as the supply difficulties on world markets, evaluating the consequences for the manufacturing industry and possible future scenarios.

On last 21 February (a few days before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, editor’s note), the Assomac Study Centre presented a seminar, jointly with Assolombarda, on today’s crucial issue of the rise in energy prices and the shortage of raw materials, factors that negatively influence the growth prospects of the manufacturing industry, already severely tried by the outbreak of the pandemic.

The responsiveness of the Italian manufacturing industry The work was opened by Valeria Negri, Director of the Assolombarda Study Centre, who started from the observation of the great reactivity shown by the Italian manufacturing industry in dealing with the pandemic crisis: in March-April 2020, in fact, in just two months, the production of the Italian manufacturing sector as a whole reached the lowest point, marking a -43%, but to the great surprise of the same analysts it also showed a strong resilience and ability to react, making it possible to bring itself within no time to pre-Covid levels, marking a ‘V’ curve like a perfect economics textbook. In the 2008 crisis, instead, the Italian manufacturing production trend showed an L-shaped curve, with effects that, although less strong in the immediate future, persisted over time, so much so that 15-18% of the country’s production capacity had been lost.

Valeria Negri also highlights that the performance of the fourth quarter of 2021 can only be a source of pride for Italian manufacturing, with better results than the main European benchmarks, with a 1.6% growth on the pre-Covid period, against -4.6% in Germany, -1.0% in Spain, -5.2% in France.

To demonstrate that Italian manufacturing can boast competitiveness today, which was lacking in 2008 and which has also been confirmed by data related to the record of export in 2021.

What has changed? What has led to this increased competitiveness? From a research carried out by Assolombarda in mid2021, emerges that - out of over 1300 manufacturing companies - one third of these had revised the composition and number of their suppliers, shortening the supply chain.

Looking, however, at 2022 data, we see a slowdown and a loss of momentum in manufacturing production across Europe, a process that began as early as the end of 2021, due to three main risk factors: the price increase of raw materials (on average 40%) and energy, the pandemic trend. Looking though more specifically at Italy, at least for the moment, we see how the impact of the scarcity of raw materials and semi-finished products on production is less severe than in other countries (such as, for example, in Germany) and the rise in prices was largely absorbed by the supply chains, with reduced business margins. In this general framework, the last obstacle to the growth of manufacturing production in Italy is the age-old and creeping problem of skilled labour shortage, which today almost affects 40% of Italian companies.

Price increase of raw materials and intermediate goods Matteo Laffi, official of the Assolombarda Study Centre, deepened the reflection on the price increase of raw materials and intermediate goods. Laffi specified that the triggering cause of this

price increase is identifiable in the excess of demand, compared to supply, following the outbreak of the pandemic. More specifically, the raw materials that marked the greatest increase were: iron (+60%), steel (+60%), aluminum (+70%), copper (+50%), but above all wood (+150%). Key messages in this context are: the price increase of raw materials is a worldwide phenomenon and not related to a single country; the prices of all the raw materials considered in the analysis recorded significant increases compared to the pre-Covid period, but some semi-finished products and raw materials have recently peaked, marking a turnaround (for example copper and bronze), even if it is a trend that has yet to be consolidated.

The ‘hot spots’ of the supply chain for Assomac and its associated companies Supply – Price increase of raw materials and semi-finished products - Problems in the supply of intermediate goods: according to data from the European Central Bank, the PMI SDT index (Purchasing Managers Index Suppliers Delivery Times) shows a particularly marked lengthening of delivery times in advanced economies related to machinery and equipment, as well as technological equipment. The causes are the interruption of supply chains (especially at the beginning of the Covid crisis with logistical suspensions and lockdown), and the increase in demand, which occurred especially after the post Covid recovery. What are the consequences? Production and export drop, increased inflation. The ‘Chip shortage’ (lack of electronic components) is a striking example. Key messages and scenarios: the blockade of the supply chain should be gradually absorbed, but we cannot ignore the Covid trend, especially with reference to the ‘Covidzero’ strategies adopted by China.

Production Price increase of electricity and gas: oil increased by +65%, natural gas by +317%. The price of electricity in Italy is closely related to that of gas, because there is a strong dependence on gas in the energy mix, and for a price formation mechanism; the price of electricity in Italy thus increased by +269%. In this context, Italy is disadvantaged compared to other European countries (e.g. France +255%, Spain +235%, Germany +218%).

For companies, this entails, in perspective, a very strong increase in electricity costs, costs that can only partially be limited by an efficiency of production processes and that, for the most part, will lead to a compression of margins and an increase of downstream prices, with the risk of losing competitiveness. This is particularly serious for companies with strong exports. The government could adopt further ‘buffer’ measures, but only with long-term policies can the future risk be reduced.

Distribution Shipping and logistics costs: maritime shipments by container have increased by 95% in the last year, but also shipments by road have increased due to the rising fuel and electricity prices (warehouse management); also the material for packaging and shipping is more expensive. Experts expect a reabsorption of costs on maritime shipments, but not on those by road.

Forecasts for Italy in 2022 The rise in prices and supply difficulties worsened after the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, seriously putting Italian companies in difficulty and freezing industrial production. The CSC (Centro Studi Confindustria) estimates a decline in Italian industrial production in March (-2.0%), after the statistical rebound in February (+4.0%) related to the fall in December and January. The prices of commodities, in particular that of natural gas (+698% on average in April compared to pre-Covid) and Brent (+56%), are still high, holding back production activity along all the supply chains. The surveys on entrepreneurial sentiment and the downsized dynamics of orders and business expectations do not suggest significant improvements in the short term. The CSC rapid survey notes a decline in industrial production of -2.0% in March, after the rebound recorded in February (+4.0%), which followed the fall in January (-3.4%) and December (-1%). In the first quarter of 2022, the CSC estimates thus a -1.6% decrease in industrial production compared to the fourth quarter of 2021. The further decrease in production recorded by the CSC in April (-2.5%) brings the variation acquired for the second quarter at -2.5%, compromising the dynamics of Italian GDP in the second quarter, after the decline in the first one. Order volumes decreased by -0.6% in March compared to February, in April by -0.4%. After the positive figure in February, mainly due to a statistical base effect, the factors that hindered Italian production activity even before the war (price increase of raw materials, scarcity of materials) continue to impact, which in the first quarter were confirmed to be very relevant. The perceived insufficiency of systems and/or materials has significantly worsened. The judgments on the main obstacles to exports are still negative. The percentage of manufacturing companies that reported difficulties in terms of higher costs and prices and longer delivery times remained high, although decreasing compared to the fourth quarter of 2021.
