concept Le Cabinet de Curiosité, in its contemporary interpretation, becomes a fantastic Box of Curiosities.
An imaginary container from which to draw to collect the most suitable ingredients for the countless current styles. A single macro trend that describes Customization through a multitude of identities, caricatures and heroines. The meaning of Customization, which differs from Personalization, is being rewritten. Customization is created by the ‘user’ who decides at the moment how to modify the product, while the Personalization is a proposal of the brand that adapts itself to the customer’s style or service needs. Key words of the fashion system evolve, assuming new meanings attributed by the Affluent Spender generations. The new classic is Basic. The new folk is Exotic. Innovating means Recycling. Sustainability becomes Repurpose. The research for perfection can be seen from the new craftmenship: created by a robot hand and a human hand. Luxury is Upscale. Elegance is a personal opinion. Street is Embellishment. Vintage is Retrofuturism. Future is now. Circular Economy is the only Global thinking of fashion and lifestyle system that drives innovation. Aesthetics will play a lot with the creation of new products. The most influential brands are already laying the foundations of this course.

colors Colors take on new meanings when they are combined with themselves. Their combination is the true story. The season presents two large color collections, which are suitable to create the most unexpected personalized combinations. A range of Sci-Fi shades, to tell the new futurism, between high-tech, industrial and fantasy. Cold and metallic tones, with fluorescent accents. High-tech white and gray. Orange, yellow and salmon reds. Aqua green, electronic gray, sophisticated neutrals. A range of mineral tones, represents the natural summer. Cold and warm are always toned down. Browns, sand and army greens are suitable for both neutral combinations and eclectic contrasts.

The video installation “The Demon’s Brain” (2018) by the Polish artist, a rare synthesis of poetry and political commitment, connects events that apparently are very far away from each other: the history of salt mines in Poland in the Middle Ages, the effects of the ultraliberal contemporary capitalism and today’s developments of artificial intelligence.

RESEARCH 04_Hashtag.indd 34
Would you wear leather that’s grown in a lab? The startup Modern Meadow has created a material said to be “biologically similar to leather”. Trademarked as Zoa, the company’s “bio-leather” product is created through a process in which yeast cells are used to create collagen, a protein found in animal skin and a key component of leather. The collagen is assembled into a fibrous material and then tanned, much like real leather.

An American ‘sewbots’ start-up has become the symbol of a new industrial revolution in garment manufacturing. With a combination of machine vision, robotics and advanced computing, Software Automation has developed “sewbots” that can produce clothing without traditional garment workers, earning enough publicity to make the company a symbol of a new industrial revolution in garment manufacturing.

Pagani Automobili has renewed its headquarters with a completely new plant of 5,800 square metres that enhances the combination of design, innovation and refinement, the same qualities that characterise hypercars produced by the manufacturer of San Cesario sul Panaro.

concept Research and experimentation of more and more specific effects and finishes continues with the application of craft-made techniques and technologies. The pretext of innovating by applying sports details promises unprecedented results. The interpretations of performing finishes are multiplied, in particular on fine and high quality leathers. Therefore anti-heat, anti-water/rain or protective features, become the main theme in the choice of materials suitable for carry over models and the core style of each brand. Summer vegetable skins will have pastel fluorescent colors. Special photo-resistant treatments protect light colors, prevent UV rays and avoid them from bleaching. The decorative element becomes crucial to define the freshness and novelty of the season. Embroidery, applications, 4D prints, unusual couplings, high frequencies, laser techniques, special effects membranes are just some of the techniques used to combine materials belonging to opposite poles. New recycled and recyclable materials, from natural to synthetic, are moving into the application and industrialization phase.

shoe lasts For women, the dĂŠcolletĂŠ is part of the footwear scene with more feminine silhouettes with a thin shape and extreme tips. The mule volume explores new, more straightforward structures, including the Texan heel. Sandals and slides alternate between hyper-thin and flexible, hyper-light platforming. Clogs with sculpted heels are an alternative to monoblock wedges. Unisex models become unlined with rope soles, espadrilles style. The ballerina shoe is a hot trend because it is revisited with square tips and ultralight soles. For men, proposals of sneakers and hybrid volumes will be multiplied with high-tech variants and an increasingly evident personalization in the soles and stitching details.

bag volumes Bags and small leather goods are pushed towards volumes that renew the carry-over of contemporary lifestyle. In rigid shapes, with well-defined contours for the most innovative saddlers, buckets and totes, the material enhances the minimalist effect. Deconstructed and soft volumes for women’s shoulder bags and the new messengers can be transformed into office pouches. The new duffler hold-all bag, with handle and shoulder strap, always in leather and fabric, comes into the off duty and business travelling world. Demands of the younger and more active market will push increasingly more towards the use of media-material mix united by very innovative sewing techniques.

The Arsutoria magazine was founded in 1947 specifically for footwear manufacturers. Since its origin, the magazine has been produced inside the publishing offices of the International Technical Institute for the Footwear Industry to underline the fact that this publishing experience is rooted in the desire to offer footwear professional contents that are both creative and highly technical - i.e. never disconnected from the reality of the Italian manufacturing industry. The first issues of the magazine - which are still available for viewing at the Milan headquarters presented footwear ideas - concepts and designs. Our aim is to recapture this proactive spirit. Over the years the Arsutoria magazine has become the reference point for learning about footwear collections - materials and components. The possibility to travel around the world and the availability of digital information in real time has allowed us to be a strategic observatory of the most important events and trends in the international fashion world. The rational observation of these trends allows us to offer expert opinions on what was successful in international markets during current and past seasons - but also to formulate proposals and incentives to help operators work on their upcoming collections.
