The WOW effect
THE FIRST COLLECTION ON HEELS BY SCAROSSO RENEWS THE COLLABORATION WITH THE STAR IN DESIGNING WOMEN’S SHOES, BRIAN ATWOOD It’s a well-known fact that high heels convey that feeling of elegance and femininity, which women require in their look. For this reason, Scarosso decided to launch for the first time ever an “on the heels” collection of footwear, by collaborating with the star in designing women’s shoes, Brian Atwood. The result of mixing artisanal tradition and the contemporary twist of Scarosso, with the genius of this brilliant designer is a collection based on five designer silhouettes that are simple, yet strong in their impact, with streamlined and elegant shapes. Pumps, decolleté, over-the-knee boots with stiletto heels, platforms, and ankle boots are the sexy and glamorous pieces of a collection that features a palette that includes bright tones on leathers with mirrored gold, silver, red and fuchsia, along with classic black, brown, and light grey nuances on nappa and suede, to then wrap it all up with unmissable animal prints. This is the second collaboration between Scarosso and Brian Atwood, who last year developed men’s and women’s slippers inspired by the mantra “Pink as a Fuck”, with part of the proceeds destined for the Susan G. Komen Foundation dedicated to funding research and raising awareness about breast cancer. This second round pushes the partnership to new limits in what is a huge breakthrough for Scarosso with the ambition – which has already succeeded - in “creating – as declared by Brian Atwood – classic models that should be a point of reference in the wardrobe of every woman with rich fabrics and an eye of regard to a simple design of impact. It is a great opportunity for Scarosso to also enter the market of heels, with a first collection that is decidedly WOW in its effect!!!”

Effetto WOW

Doucal's: the Ideal Shoe Rack
THE PATHWAY OF EXALTING THE AESTHETIC DIALOGUE BETWEEN THE MARCHES TERRITORY, ITS ARTISTIC TREASURES, AND THE ESSENCE OF A COMPANY THAT HAS BEEN DEVELOPING MADE IN ITALY QUALITY FOOTWEAR FOR 50 YEARS The starting point is The Ideal City, a work attributed to Leon Battista Alberti in the National Gallery of Marches in the Palazzo Ducale of Urbino, representing the perfect synthesis between a clear sense of perspective and a Renaissance style oriented towards the future, which serves as Doucal's inspiration in its Ideal Shoe Rack project. This project marks a new step forward for the brand, which aims to achieve symmetry between its men’s and women’s collections, where the desire to experiment and surpass neoclassic forms in the spirit of modernity merges with a quest for the perfect construction, allowing for the selection of the ideal shoe in constructing the perspective of any given day. Expression of a sophisticated and free lifestyle, the timeless shoes of the Ideal Shoe Rack range from sneakers developed for the modern urban worker in total white leather or in technical fabric matched with suede, featuring artisanal details like hand stitching and an ultralight rubber sole, to loafers with tassels and moccasins in soft suede, where a perfect style is combined with extreme flexibility. At the same time there are more formal solutions like the college moccasin in glossy leather, the classic lace-up derby, icon of the brand and reedition of an Eighties archive piece, and the unmissable leather model with double buckle. Models with a unique and wrap-around fit, thanks to the thin layer of memory foam in the insole, allow for a fluid and light pace while walking. The leitmotif of the Ideal Shoe Rack collection is accordingly quality, attention to detail, sophisticated design, material selection, softness and lightness: cornerstones of the beautiful and wellmade proposal designed by Doulcal's.

The key concepts guiding the shoe and bag trends for next Spring-Summer 2023 identify a luscious lifestyle (LUSHLIFE) as the perfect remedy to combat the “depression” generated by the pandemic. A sort of revenge that wants to surround itself with new details and exceptional products.
CONCETTI, IMMAGINI DI ISPIRAZIONE, SFILATE DI RIFERIMENTO E LA NUOVA PALETTE COLORI PER LA PE 2023, QUESTI GLI INGREDIENTI SVILUPPATI DA ORIETTA PELIZZARI PER L’ANALISI TENDENZE DI ARSUTORIA
It’s the time to indulge in escapism and exoticism, but this must be accompanied by responsible attitudes towards the environment and diversity. Technological innovation also plays a key role: the alternative worlds it can open up finally point to a positive and optimistic future. BIOMORPHIC, FUTURISTIC ESCAPE, MEDITATIVE These are the keywords that guide us towards materials, shapes and styles that best interpret the LUSHLIFE concept. Primordial structures that recall nature; technological and iridescent aesthetics that harken back to nature in an artificial way; ending with a more introspective and genuine nature. SS 2023 COLOUR PALETTE The colour trends for the next spring-summer 2023 are among the most important information to explore regarding the new collections. Following on from the previous concepts, the right shades are conveyed through the different fields and ways of use (business, classic, sport, etc.). Vibrant oranges, cool and artificial but refreshing tones, primary shades for the sneaker world… and many other colour combinations, schemes, and Pantone® indications that will influence the trendiest creations. And a surprise: a special fashion theme focused on exuberant colours.
1 8 TRENDS

In February 2022, the motto will be #bettertogether, to reinforce the concept of belonging to the event and above all the importance of being together face-to-face for the success of one’s business. Accompanying Micam will once again be MICAM X, the innovation hub of MICAM Milan in which top-level speakers discuss the unknown future to find the keys to the changes that have become increasingly disruptive. MICAM X features four key themes: trends and materials, art fashion heritage & future, sustainability and future retail. The expectations for the new appointment of the reference events for the fashion and accessories sector are more than positive, thanks to the results of the last September edition 2021, where a total of 22,274 operators were registered, meeting the offer of 735 companies present at the three events. MICAM, for its part, unveils a new chapter of the #micamtales communication project with “Glamorous Magic”, which will accompany visitors to the next edition of the international footwear review. The shots of the photographer Fabrizio Scarpa, and the short film directed by Daniele Scarpa, bring the viewer inside the home of the protagonist who, after a disastrous attempt to create her look for the grand ball alone, is now involved in a glamorous spell with a pair of wonderful crystal slippers that will allow her to fulfill her dream as a princess. Shoes, which have always been the most coveted item by women at every age, were exclusively made for MICAM, which wanted to pay homage to the world of boundless creativity, capable of making people dream and promote what is “beautiful and well done”. Glamorous Magic is part of the communication campaign of Micam Glass Slipper, a real happening for visitors of MICAM Milano, who have already been able to interact for a couple of editions with the dedicated area at MICAM Tales Square, which was visited on Facebook by 40,000 followers with 54,000 interactions, and on Instagram and Linkedin respectively by 30,000 and 2,000 followers.

B-Corp, what they are and why they are required. Sustainability in footwear and leather goods can change the face of companies B-Corp, cosa sono e perché certificarsi. and promises to increase turnover La sostenibilità calzaturiera e della pelletteria può cambiare il volto A CONCEPT THAT EMERGED SOME TIME AGO AND delle proprie aziende e promette di WHICH IS BEING PROVED BY INCREASINGLY MORE CONCRETE EXAMPLES OF BUSINESS CASES. WE incrementare il giro d’affari SEE IT WHEN TALKING ABOUT B-CORP, BUT ALSO GIVING AN ACCOUNT ON WHAT HAPPENED IN THE GLOBAL FOOTWEAR SUSTAINABILITY SUMMIT
It is now very clear to everyone, that the sustainability issue in general, but also more in detail in the shoes and bags industry, is a particularly complex and multifaceted problem that requires taking care of respecting the environment, but also workers, the social sphere, the finance world, traceability, chemistry, materials... It is therefore impossible to exhaust or face all the themes and do it once and for all. Also because issues evolve day by day. In 2021, the Global Footwear Sustainability Summit tried to take stock of the complex sustainability issue with regard to the footwear world, facing many hot fronts in this regard. It dealt with, and we take full account of this, all sectors of the footwear industry: insights into the latest trends in the sector, sustainable solutions, opportunities and innovations... A positive networking divided into different meeting sessions concerning the 7 pillars of the industry: Chemistry, Materials, Technology for manufacturing production, Packaging and Logistics, Distribution, Recycling and Reuse, Green Finance. One of the topics that emerged during GFSS 2021 concerned B-Corp, a new way of thinking about companies that, while actively dealing with sustainability, do not forget the primary business instinct to develop profit. Interesting business cases (Velasca and Euro Brand Management) accompany us in discovering why the need to take the path to transform companies in the sector into B-Corp, the steps to follow, the difficulties and advantages of this certification. There is also an examination carried out of the state of the art of the fashion industry related to sustainability with data analyses of the US market provided by FDRA, or of the sentiment of the Anglo-Saxon world investigated through a McKinsey research. Just they way we keep informing about UNIC’s strenuous battle to protect leather against the attacks from some designers and the little consideration that the precious material obtains, being it by its very nature sustainable. The danger of Greenwashing is always around the corner. Some suggestions to avoid it come from Claudio Marenzi (Herno), Jacopo Schettini Gherardini (Standard Ethics) and Michael Burke (Louis Vuitton). 1 2 2 SUSTAINABILITY

Zanellato and the future of sustainable tanning LUXETHIC IS BORN, CHROME-FREE TANNING THAT INCORPORATES ALMONDS AND THEIR SHELLS INTO A NEW SUSTAINABLE AND INNOVATIVE PROCESS, THAT KEEPS AN EXCELLENT TACTILE AND VISUAL QUALITY. ZANELLATO’S COMMITMENT IS TO LEAVE A BETTER WORLD TO FUTURE GENERATIONS Time, effort, and work are keywords even in a fast-paced market like today’s, especially if the intent is to achieve concrete and high-quality results. This is the approach and path chosen by Franco Zanellato, founder, and creative mind of the homonym brand Zanellato. It took eight years of research to create LUXETHIC, the chrome-free tanning which is a real alternative to the traditional one and also to that with Aldehydes. The secret lies in a new vegetable blend that includes almond and their shells as a surprising ingredient. Therefore, LUXETHIC comes out from the reuse of food waste making this tanning sustainable and healthy, which remains pleasant to the touch and with the scent of cloves and essential oils of Marseille. The will is to create a unique and revolutionary leather, non-polluting and non-carcinogenic, with a refined grain and able to make bags lighter than those made with the classic tanning methods. The commitment is to leave future generations a better world in which craftsmanship and the cult of beauty are in harmony with the environment. Zanellato, with his laboratory ZA-LAB, did not achieve this result alone but working, since 2013, with the "Giulio Natta" department of chemistry, materials and chemical engineering of the Politecnico di Milano. People would be able to appreciate the results of this intense work by purchasing the garments of the spring-summer 2022 season. On this occasion, 63% of Zanellato leathers will be made with LUXETHIC tanning. “And it is only the achievement of a first goal because by 2023 we aim to produce 100% of the products with this innovative sustainable material”, the company points out.
1 2 6 SUSTAINABILITY

Biodegradable luxury bag THE ANYA HINDMARCH BRAND, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE DANISH TANNERY SCAN-HIDE, LAUNCHES RETURN TO NATURE, THE NEW BAG COLLECTION THAT NATURALLY BIODEGRADE Last October, the vision of the British brand Anya Hindmarch, founded in 1987, took shape with the launch of the Return to Nature collection. The creation of biodegradable bags, which their goal is to reduce waste, is the result of two years of research and innovation. The idea was born some years ago, after Anya heard about Arizona Muse, an environmentalist and specialist in sustainability. There is no waste in nature, from that, the desire to create a new product, in this case a leather bag, tanned in such a way as to make biodegradation possible. The concept behind this collection is the return to nature and to the land of materials and the product itself when it runs out of life. As Anya Hindmarch said: “Arizona's words inspired me to undertake a long project to see if I could make a beautiful bag with sustainable leathers and tanned so that they could biodegrade and return to nature” The Danish tannery Scan-Hide, the German one Richard Hoffmans and Nera (part of the Smit & Zoom group) accompanied Anya in the development of this collection. The leathers come from the Swedish Scan-Hide farms, which record the highest standards in Europe regarding animal welfare. The tannery was carried out with an innovate method, replacing the chromium (which prevents its biodegradability) with zeolite (a kind of mineral with a very open crystalline structure). This process makes the skin free of heavy metals and aldehydes. In addition, the liquid silk finishes, and not using PU coatings, allow a biodegradability of 89.2% in 28 days, as demonstrated by the specific tests carried out by BLC ISO 20136 (specific for evaluating leather). The ambition of all the brands that took part in the launch of Return to Nature is to increase the value of the finished product, offering quality leathers, through sustainable processes and materials. All that without compromising the characteristics of the leather and the performance of the finished product.

Demetra by Gucci IN THE YEAR OF THE CENTENARY OF ITS BIRTH, THE FLORENTINE MAISON OF LUXURY LAUNCHES A NEW SUSTAINABLE MATERIAL WITH LUXURIOUS FINISHES, WHICH IT MAKES AVAILABLE TO THE ENTIRE FASHION INDUSTRY GUCCI RHYTON
“In the year of our centenary, Demetra represents the meeting point between our vision of beauty and quality and our desire to innovate. A new material that, starting from our skills and know-how, contributes to the development of an innovative future. With Demetra, we provide our industry with an alternative material, easily scalable and more sustainable, which also responds to the demand for animal-free solutions”, states Marco Bizzarri, President and CEO of Gucci. The result of two years of internal research and development at the Maison, and entirely produced in Italy in the Tuscan plants of the Colonna Group, of which Gucci owns 51%, Demetra combines production efficiency and the use of sustainable animal-free and renewable raw materials, with the beauty, softness and durability of the skin. Demetra is, in fact, a revolutionary material created applying the same skills and processes used for tanning, which give it unique features, making it flexible and at the same time resistant, with a soft and luxurious finishing. Demetra is made with animal-free raw materials in large part deriving from sustainable, renewable and bio-based sources and, unlike most of the recently developed materials, it has no scalability obstacles or volume limitations. Moreover, the Demetra waste obtained during production is recycled and reused by Gucci with a view to greater circularity, in line with the Gucci-Up circular economy initiative focused on upcycling, thanks to which Gucci recovers leather waste and fabric generated in manufacturing processes. Demetra is part of the ‘Gucci Equilibrium’ project aimed at reducing the impact on the environment and protecting nature, respecting mankind and with a view to inclusion. Basket, New Ace and Rhyton – are Gucci’s three sneaker models made from Demetra - but the innovative material will be made available to other companies and brands in the fashion industry, so that they can customise it and obtain entire unique finishes.

Demetra by Gucci NELL’ANNO DEL CENTENARIO DALLA SUA NASCITA, LA MAISON FIORENTINA DEL LUSSO LANCIA UN NUOVO MATERIALE SOSTENIBILE DALLE FINITURE LUSSUOSE, CHE METTE A DISPOSIZIONE DELL’INTERA INDUSTRIA DELLA MODA.

ByPell, recycled material with a very low environmental impact THE LCA STUDY WHICH CERTIFIES CO2 EMISSIONS BELOW 5 KG PER M2 AND COMPLIANCE WITH GRS STANDARDS, MAKES THE MATERIAL PROPOSED BY EREDI MEZZABOTTA MARIA PERFECT FOR ANY FASHION ACCESSORY AND ALSO FOR THE ENVIRONMENT Excellent for shoes, leather goods, furniture and automotive, the ByPell material is composed by half of recycled leather waste that gives the surfaces an appearance, a touch and even a scent that is reminiscent of leather. After all, sustainability has long been at the heart of Eredi Mezzabotta Maria’s corporate philosophy. But with ByPell, the Marche-based company has managed to responsibly transform something that otherwise would have been wasted into an advanced, beautiful, high-performance and environmentally friendly material. In fact, ByPell consists of 50% recycled pre-consumer cowhide, 20% recycled polyester, 15% conventional polyester and the remaining 15% of other coating materials. The result is a GRS - Global Recycled Standard certified product that is 40% lighter and five times more resistant to abrasion than full grain leather. Eredi Mezzabotta Maria, however, was not content to offer the market a recycled product - aware of the fact that often the recycling process is not at all favourable to the environment - and wanted to go further. She therefore commissioned an LCA - Life Cycle Assessment study, discovering that the impact of ByPell’s life cycle on the environment is less than 5 kg of CO2 per square metre. An evaluation that is well below the average of other materials, which equate to 25 kg of CO2. The result is obtained through a patented production process of clean technology that combines traditional leather fibres without using hostile adhesives that are harmful to the environment. A process that recycles 95% of the water used and whose waste streams are converted into energy which is in turn reintroduced into the production cycle. ByPell is therefore synonymous with a particular type of innovation, capable of making fashion accessories and also the environment beautiful.

Increasingly sustainable leather cuts COMELZ IS RENOWNED WORLDWIDE FOR ITS ABILITY TO INNOVATE AND RETHINK THE CUTTING AND SHAPING OF LEATHER AND TEXTILES. THIS APPLIES ALSO TO SUSTAINABLE INNOVATION Comelz, leader in the supply of cutting systems and machinery with high technology levels, optimal flexibility and maximum productivity, suitable for all types of processing techniques, was among the first to introduce electronics in the mechanical-footwear industry. The company was also among the first to produce numerically controlled machines for shoes and leather goods, to invest in the digitalisation of technology, to encourage the growth and evolution of the sector. And today it is among the first to think about sustainability at 360 degrees. Being one of the founders of a generation of Italian companies that knows how to interpret the needs of the national footwear and leather goods market, it decided to focus on the subject without mixing words. Comelz has developed an ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) strategy which is being implemented and summarised by the ESG reports of the last two years. Comelz wanted to measure itself on objectives that assess the environmental impact (E), the respect of social values (S) and good management practices (G). Two elements should be emphasised right away: making software and machines for cutting materials more intelligent means promoting the reduction of waste already in the production phase, preserving therefore the environment. Just as making machinery increasingly energy efficient (like obtaining the Assomac Green Label certification) helps companies to be more sustainable both on the green and financial side. As early as the beginning of 2022, the supply of energy from 100% renewable sources in the headquarters of Vigevano, where all the production sites are located, will be a reality, making the company “carbon neutral”. A commitment that in the coming months will be enriched with further initiatives which will be discussed in mid-2022.

SAFETY
Even safety shoes become more green THE USE OF RECYCLED AND BIO-BASED MATERIALS IS GROWING, WHILE RESEARCH FOCUSES ON LIGHTNESS AND COMFORT In the accident prevention sector, each novelty represents a step forward on the road to improve health, well-being and worker safety. All this applies to professional clothing but even more so to safety footwear because there are many contexts where the most insidious risk factors concern the ground, both for outdoor and indoor work environments. In short, safety frequently starts from our feet, from footwear. A truth that explains the vastness of the offer available today on the market with specific footwear for each type of risk and particular professional category. The search for an ever higher protection level, accompanied by major comfort, is at the heart of all manufacturers of safety shoes. Today, obtaining a major lightweighted shoe represents undoubtedly a key request, obviously aimed at increasing the user’s perception of comfort. The work in on reducing the weight of the single component, from the upper to the sole, passing through the protective toecap and the anti-perforation plate, because only by reducing the thickness or volume of each single element can the overall weight of the safety footwear be lowered without having to give up on the highest protection level. In this case, research mainly concerns materials: in every field experiments are made on alternative materials, compounds or composites, that are lighter but capable of ensuring equally high technical features. All this in the face of regulations that become more demanding every year in terms of technical requirements to be respected. A continuous challenge, far from being easy, but that certainly represents a great stimulus for the entire supply chain. Another transversal theme that has also forcefully entered the safety segment is that of the growing use of recycled and recyclable materials, a first response to the request for greater sustainability that comes from the market also in this sector. This was clearly seen at the A+A 2021 fair which was held last October in Düsseldorf. The uppers, linings, soles, insoles and laces of many new safety shoes are made from recycled materials, at least in part. In the case of uppers, the proposals mostly concern the use of polyester yarns derived from PET, or from used plastic bottles. Again, the challenge is to maintain performance unchanged, because recycled materials can, for example, offer lower abrasion resistance. In this respect, each company has faced the problem by developing different, always innovative solutions. In the case of soles, on the market today you can find proposals in partially or totally recycled polyurethane (PU), but there is also talk of BIO polyurethane, obtained with a good percentage of organic components made from renewable sources. 1 8 0 SAFETY

Grisport, here comes the sustainable ECO 3P line FOCUS ON THE USE OF RECYCLED AND RECYCLABLE MATERIALS FOR BOTH PRODUCT AND PACKAGING Grisport has just launched the Active Pro Wave/ECO 3P line on the safety market where the three P’s stand for Product, Packaging and Process, the three company’s pillars which are increasingly optimised in terms of sustainability. A theme that has been the focus of attention of the Venetian brand for years. This time the focus is on recycling. The upper, laces, shock-absorbing insert and insole of the new shoes consist of 100%, the lining of 60% and the protective foil of 84% recycled polyester. Equipped with a high-performance sole thanks to the patented Active system and the insertion of expanded Pu, the shoe also boasts extreme lightness, weighing less than 499 grams. As for packaging, only recycled and recyclable cartons and boxes are used. The boxes are made with a particular self-assembled patented system, to minimise their overall dimensions even during transport, which in turn translates into fewer vehicles on the roads. In terms of production, in addition to the selection of more sustainable raw materials when not really recycled and the choice of suppliers who have sustainability certifications, some time ago the Italian company has started using a photovoltaic system that covers about 70% of its energy requirements, carries out the separate collection of its waste to facilitate its recycling also by third parties and boasts a careful management of water resources that includes the recovery of rainwater. Grisport has also already implemented a traceability system to verify the origin of the materials that allows you to retrace all the production stages to guarantee maximum transparency.

Here is the new SIGNUM 20 STEMMA HAS DEVELOPED AN INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY TO PRODUCE POLYURETHANE BOOTS Lighter and more comfortable than PVC boots, less expensive than rubber boots and more versatile than EVA products, polyurethane boots are becoming more and more popular in the safety and outdoor market. The traditional injection technology, which is at the base of almost all the worldwide production of polyurethane boots, runs up against some limits of this process, among which the main one is certainly the limited productivity. The “RPU Spray Technology” and revolutionary mould-holder system has enabled Stemma to develop an innovative process, now available in the new “SIGNUM 20” machine for polyurethane boots. This valuable tool allows to overcome these limits and to start a real revolution in the market. With an effective cycle time of less than 30 seconds and which is not bound to the use of polyurethanes with long extraction times, it guarantees an increase in productivity of about 30% compared to the traditional process. Moreover, an openmould process makes it possible to create extremely light products with particularly thin thicknesses, representing an effective innovation that improves the production and characteristics of the boot. The uniform distribution of colour and the possibility to use a wide range of linings are other characterising aspects of this new machine, now available on the market.

Cofra, increasingly more comfortable and ultralightweight styles FOCUS ON THE LIGHTECH E FITNESS LINES Lightech and Fitness are the most successful lines in 2021 of Cofra, footwear manufacturer. The first line focuses on lightness, to meet the ever more demanding requirements also in safety shoes but which necessarily needs to deal with essential components such as the toecap or the antiperforation insole which obviously have their own weight. The team of technicians and designers of the Apulian company worked to lighten the overall weight of the finished shoe, managing to bring it to 420 grams, far below a traditional work shoe while remaining compliant with the requirements of the 20345:2011 standard. The sole features XL Exgtralight®, an Evabased foam material, very lightweight but also flexible and resistant, which guarantees excellent physical-mechanical properties such as abrasion and hydrocarbons resistance. Also the other key components are lightened, without compromises in terms of protection, such as the antiperforation insole in conductive non-woven fabric, the antibacterial and breathable insole and the fibreglass toecap resistant to impacts up to 200 J. The upper is in water-repellent fabric, also available in recycled polyester. The colour combinations and finishes of the Lightech line are designed to satisfy the tastes of a young and sporty audience, attentive to their outfit even in the workplace. Improving comfort was instead the main objective that led to the development of the Fitness line, characterised by a PU/TPU sole with three self-modelling gel inserts and with different densities positioned in the metatarsal and heel support points, they adapt to the shape of the arch, absorbing the different percentages of applied load. The special polyurethane inserted fussbett also contributes to the foot’s feelings of well-being.

FITNESS

Evolution in composite eyelets, now also oval shaped A COMPANY SPECIALISED IN THE PRODUCTION OF FOOTWEAR ACCESSORIES, HAWAI ITALIA IS A POINT OF REFERENCE FOR THE SECTOR THANKS TO ITS CONSTANT DEVELOPMENT OF INNOVATIVE PRODUCTS. AFTER THE LAUNCH OF THE COMPOSITE ROUND EYELET, IT NOW APPLIES THE SAME TECHNOLOGY TO OVAL EYELETS Renowned for its orientation towards innovation, over time, Hawai Italia has presented numerous items fruit of revolutionary research, including speed laces, rivets and buckles in Top Light, Pro AirWaterblock, and 200 Reef, the best composite toecap for high performance applications. Recently, it launched on the market an exclusive and innovative composite round eyelet that meets the stringent safety regulations and which, unlike metal eyelets that have serious oxidation problems, meets production needs by transforming the safety shoe into a stable item that also considers the aesthetic content. Thanks to the use of a special R material, combined with the technologies implemented by Hawai Italia, the eyelet can be applied cold with automatic eyeletting machines. In terms of production, the advantages offered by this application system are considerable: rapid assembly, consequent cost savings and precision in processing. Adding to all this the exclusive advantages of the composite material: the lightness and the possibility of personalising design and colour, then it is possible to obtain an almost revolutionary product: until now it was considered impossible to realise an application with plastic eyelets with automatic drilling machines!
2 1 0 SAFETY
“Today this product undergoes further evolution: - explains Giovanni Fainelli, owner of the company - despite the difficult months of the pandemic, Hawai Italia continued the innovation process and developed the same technology used for round composite eyelets, to produce an oval composite eyelet, with a wide range of applications, from clothing to accessories and shoes, including safety. Assembly is always quick and precise, applied in a single cold stroke on automatic eyeletting machines. The intrinsic features of the material are the same as those of the round eyelet and offer the same customisation possibilities”. A further challenge that Hawai Italia has won thanks to its vocation for innovation, the mastery of materials and technologies, which has allowed it to offer the market another absolute novelty. Hawai eyelets offer a wide range of advanced items with different colours, fluo, transparencies, and more, and can finally guarantee an innovative and fashion design. Thus responding to the needs of today’s market which increasingly looks to the aesthetics of the product, as well as to functionality.

Evoluzione negli occhielli in composito, ora anche ovali AZIENDA SPECIALIZZATA NELLA PRODUZIONE DI ACCESSORI PER LA CALZATURA, HAWAI ITALIA È UN PUNTO DI RIFERIMENTO PER IL SETTORE GRAZIE AL COSTANTE SVILUPPO DI INNOVAZIONI.

CONSTANT QUALITY, RELIABILITY AND SERVICE. THE ADDED VALUE OF LUIGI CARNEVALI FOR SAFETY FOOTWEAR. Is it possible to know the market better than those who have been operating there for more than 100 years? This is the case of Luigi Carnevali, which has been offering the world of footwear, leather goods and clothing solutions for over a century to “keep fashion proposals in shape”. And not just fashion! For many years, Carnevali has in fact been offering a vast range of Thermo and Self-adhesive reinforcements to support leather, textile and synthetic shoes, customising each reference according to the customer’s requests (different finishing, water-repellent and fireretardant treatments ...). As in the case of Cofra, the undisputed leader in the field of Safety shoes, which for its KARMA YELLOW has chosen Carnevali’s JERSEY reinforcements. The shoe made from 60% pet ecological fabric, is water repellent and uses reinforcements able to provide the correct structure maintaining it over time. “Using Luigi Carnevali products in our collections means being sure to have a constant product quality over time. This does not just ensure a perfect pair of shoes at the end of the process, but it also reassures us during the production phase, because we know that we will have no problems and that, in case of issues, we would receive skilled and prompt assistance from Carnevali”, confirms Cofra. Because the Italian company is not just at the forefront in the qualitative reliability of the products, but also in the service. Which means extreme customisation and care in following the customer, who can provide his own materials and indications, and receive in exchange various coupling tests with different types of reinforcements, tested inside Carnevali’s laboratories, to then choose the one deemed most suitable to one’s needs. Or it also means assistance in terms of logistics: Carnevali, in fact, is able to keep reinforcements at home and manage the warehouse of its customers and then provide them with a prompt and punctual delivery whenever they request it (order received in the morning and shipped in the afternoon). “We manage to maintain a high product and service level, also thanks to companies like Cofra that always aim for excellence and claim to work with partners that allow them to excel in every market”, points out Carnevali.

Fabrics by Lenzi Egisto, the innovation liked by the market UPPERS WITH DIFFERENTIATED ZONES, SEAMLESS TECHNOLOGIES AND RECYCLED FIBRES TO OFFER TARGETED SOLUTIONS FOR SAFETY AND SPORT On the market for over a century, Lenzi Egisto by FF has been offering innovative fabrics resulting from the constant research of its laboratories and internal departments. The large number of patents and trademarks filed over the years testifies to the commitment of a company that has chosen to be at the forefront of sectors where the highest technical requirements are needed. Currently one of the leading technologies of the Tuscan industrial group born in 1898 is called PERSPAIR®. Jacquard fabrics made with this technique have areas with different features and performances according to the needs of the various sectors. As for the uppers of mountain footwear, for example, the toe area offers high resistance to abrasion, the lateral parts above the sole are particularly resistant to cuts (when used for crampons, for example in the case of trekking shoes), while the part near the lacing is more breathable. “All made in one single seamless piece which results in a much more resistant shoe, because as we know, the stitching is always the weakest point of each product. This way, we solve many problems both in the safety sector and in sports shoes”, explains Roberto Fenzi. “Our seamless technology does not involve a knit that breaks easily but an alternative weaving technique that offers superior strength”. REPET, is a line of eco-sustainable fabrics, which uses fibres obtained from the recycling of plastic containers, industrial waste and scraps of sweaters and fabrics. Given that the recycled PET yarn has medium-low tenacity features, in order to meet the requests for higher mechanical properties, the Tuscan company has developed REPET Reinforced, a line of fabrics where high tenacity yarns are used in the warp (for 50 %), the structural part of the product, leaving the simple recycled PET just as a filler for the texture. The result is a high-performance product that meets the requirements of sports and safety shoes. “This solution - explains Fenzi - represents an ideal compromise between sustainability and the high performance requirement”. Among the novelties of Lenzi we have to mention SPORTAIR which solves a very important problem also in the safety shoe, that is the breaking in the plug area due to the repeated stresses of those who work on their knees for example. The use of monofilament fishing lines gives the fabric excellent mechanical performance while offering great lightness and maximum breathability. Lenzi Egisto’s success on the market is testified by the numbers. “Despite the pandemic, in 2020 we recorded a small increase while in 2021 we will close with +52%. What is our secret? We try to give concrete answers to customer requests by working on constant innovation”, concludes Roberto Fenzi.

From Elachem an increasingly green polyurethane THE COMPANY OF VIGEVANO IS ONE OF THE MAJOR EUROPEAN PRODUCERS OF POLYESTER Lightweight and highly resistant to abrasion, with excellent physical/mechanical properties, polyurethane (or rather polyurethane systems) is the ideal material for the production of soles of any shape able to meet even the highest technical requirements. For this reason it is widely used in all sectors of the footwear sector: from fashion to trekking, from sport to safety. The Italian company Elachem based in Vigevano is one of the major European producers of polyester (one of the PU components) and polyurethane systems, which with its subsidiary Epaflex, is able to meet a vast variety of requests. What is the market trend at the end of this year? “We cannot complain - replies Marco Valieri, Elachem’s sales manager - in 2021 we obtained the same results as in 2019, the pre-pandemic year, but we have opened a very significant range of projects that makes us look to the future with confidence. Our secret? The flexibility that comes from the fact that we are producers of raw material, giving us an important advantage over our competitors, especially in times like these where planning is particularly difficult for everyone. Moreover, we are witnessing the return to Europe of some productions previously delocalised to Asia and this creates new work ”. In terms of material, what are the market demands? “Today customers request recycled or bio-based materials, two areas that we are following very closely. On one side, we are developing a project that provides for the collection and re-circulation of our production waste and those of our customers with the Zero Landfill objective. On the other side, we have already developed a polyurethane of BIO origin, composed of 70% organic component; for us this is still a niche market but in clear growth, on which we will continue to conduct research”. Any new projects? “We are about to become the major polyester producers in Europe thanks to an expansion of internal production facilities”, concludes Valieri.

More and more green lines for Tentoes AN OFFER RANGING FROM “PLASTIC FREE” SNEAKERS TO MILITARY BOOTS AND A STRATEGY BASED ON RESPECT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT CHARACTERISE THE PORTUGUESE BRAND Tentoes Professional is the brand dedicated to safety shoes created in 2019 by the Portuguese group Carité which boasts thirty years of experience in the footwear sector. The attention to the environment is one of the pillars of this brand’s strategy which translates into the choice of using as much as possible components and raw materials of natural origin, often obtained from the recycling of preferably biodegradable production waste, and by maintaining production at local level to reduce CO2 emissions and favour suppliers who can help reduce water and energy consumption. All this obviously after designing a product that focuses on worker safety by combining design, technology and compliance with the most stringent regulatory requirements as evidenced by the appropriate certifications. One of the most interesting lines developed by Tentoes is called Plastic Free and offers a sneaker with upper in leather or water-repellent suede, steel or aluminum toe cap, anti-perforation insole in Kevlar and outsole in non-slip recycled rubber that resists temperatures up to 300 degrees. The vaguely vintage design is instead the focus of the Retro Sneaker line which offers boots with upper in water-repellent suede and inserts in cordura with internal insole in recycled, antistatic and antibacterial material and an external sole in recycled nitrile rubber with double density Eva midsole which ensures superior wet grip. Attention to the environment also translates into the offer of packaging in compostable materials designed to optimise warehouse spaces. Among the latest news there is also a line of military boots in waterproof leather with a heat resistant sole.

The market likes the TexPet line by Tessiltoschi FABRICS MANUFACTURED WITH 100% PET YARN, CERTIFIED GRS Tessiltoschi was one of the first textile companies to believe in the possibility of creating interesting innovations starting from recycled raw materials. In the last two years, the Tuscan company founded in 1968 has in particular worked on polyester yarn obtained from the recovery of PET plastic bottles, creating a line of eco-sustainable fabrics, called Texpet. The line offers fabrics for shoe linings and uppers, in various weaves and the possibility to produce customised prints. All of the fabrics in the TEXPET line are manufactured with 100% PET yarn, certified Global Recycle Standard (GRS). The interest of the market has been important since the very beginning. This season there are several manufacturers of safety shoes that offer the market models with uppers in recycled fabric made by Tessiltoschi. “We strongly believe in the importance of finding new technical solutions that are more sustainable for the environment and the market response is telling us that we are on the right path”, say the company’s managers. Another novelty recently presented by Tessiltoschi concerns the development of a series of antiperforation fabrics ideal for the production of comfortable and breathable insoles with further improved resistance features. We are talking about the K18 line which, thanks to its particular technical structure and 3.8 to 4.2 mm thickness, ensures protection even to the thinnest nails with 3 and 4.5 mm tips in compliance with the EN ISO 22568-4 standard: 2021.

Aloft launches the Sphair concept and SolesTainable THE PORTUGUESE SOLE FACTORY FOCUSES ON AIR BUBBLE TECHNOLOGY AND RECYCLING OF WASTE MATERIALS The result of extensive research carried out in collaboration with a Spanish university and a technology centre, Sphair is a new sole concept based on an air bubble technology that offers a great variety of benefits in terms of comfort, shock absorption and extreme lightness. The secret of the new sole developed by the Portuguese company Aloft is given by a combination of elements: an internal layer with spherical cells that absorb the pressure exerted by the foot when walking, offering a cushioning effect and an external part composed of single studs arranged in different ways, which ensure superior grip, excellent traction control and a unique multi-bounce effect. Sphair has been designed to be used in various fields, in sports such as trekking, but also in everyday life for both women and men. To offer a practical demonstration of the value of this technology, at the last A+A security fair, a technological station was set up on the stand of Aloft and managed by a German movement specialist (Molibso) who, using sensors and a special software, analysed the pressure distribution under the sole of the foot while walking (on a special platform), returning a colour image with the geography of the major pressure points. The system clearly showed that footwear equipped with Sphair soles allow uniform distribution of the load ensuring greater comfort. Another interesting novelty presented by Aloft in Düsseldorf concerns, instead, sustainability or rather the reuse of waste. This is the “SolesTainable” technology which concerns the production of rubber, Pu and TPU soles with recycled raw materials together with other waste materials such as plastic, leather or cork suitably treated and transformed. The theme related to the recovery of waste is of great concern to the company: “We are thinking of creating a new company exclusively dedicated to the recovery and recycling of materials for which we would like to find partners who share the same vision”, announces Pedro Castro, CEO of Aloft.
