Luciano Padovan: spirito italiano e femminilità

A return that is not willing to break its ties with the past of Luciano Padovan, recalling the Italian spirit and artisanal hands that are part of its DNA, while rediscovering the historic archive and recovering heels and shapes from it, which are then revamped for the creation of new proposals. The collection can be divided into two important worlds inspired by New York City, Manhattan and Madison. ‘Manhattan’ includes proposals with 7cm or 9cm heels, all embellished by the LP logo in galvanized gold on the sole. Manhattan continues with other proposals of Soho Special: ankle boots and pumps, in the same tones of the other models, but different for their sculpted heel, which is a hallmark of the brand, in golden metal. ‘Madison’ instead stands out for its proposals with 9cm heels and for the monogram on the sole in silver metal. There are then two small families: Sexy Stud and Open Toe, both with a strappy black heel. Guest Star of the collection is the Manhattan Special Boots, which can be found both in a knee-height version and also a mid-calf-length version: available only in black and beige leather, it is enriched by fringes of removable leather.

Un ritorno che non vuole spezzare il legame con il passato quello di Luciano Padovan, che richiama il suo DNA fatto di spirito italiano e mani artigianali e va alla riscoperta dell’archivio storico con la ripresa di tacchi e forme, rivisitati per la creazione di nuove proposte. La collezione può essere suddivisa in due grandi mondi ispirati a New York City: Manhattan e Madison. ‘Manhattan’ racchiude proposte con altezze dei tacchi di 7cm o 9cm, tutte impreziosite dal logo LP in oro galvanizzato sulla suola. Manhattan continua con altre proposte di Soho Special come ankle boots e decolleté, nelle stesse tonalità degli altri modelli, ma che si differenziano dal tacco scultura, iconico per il brand, in metallo dorato. ‘Madison’, invece, si caratterizza per le proposte con tacco di altezza 9cm e per il monogramma sulla suola in metallo silver. Abbiamo due piccole famiglie: Sexy Stud e Open Toe, entrambe accomunate dal tacco fasciato nero. Guest star della collezione è, infine, il Manhattan Special Boots, che possiamo trovare sia in versione alta a coprire il ginocchio, sia a metà polpaccio: in un’unica versione in pelle nera e beige, è arricchito da frange in pelle estraibili.

“DO WE SHOW?” Joséphine Baker, Marlene Dietrich, Grace Kelly, Marilyn Monroe, and Edith Piaf are the five unforgettable women who the creative director of the historic Maison Roger Vivier, Gherardo Felloni, chose as the protagonists of the short film, ‘Do we show?’ to present the brand’s new collection FW2021. We see impersonators of these great divas of cinema and music take part in a video created by Felloni, as the special guests of a fashion show that is late in getting started. Thus, the reality enters this imaginative universe, with the plot for the film reflecting how the pandemic has been postponing fashion shows and exhibitions. We see these divas run out of patience, get up on the stage and filling the scene with their style and beauty. “Sooner or later, we’ll go out once again – says Felloni - That's why I imagined stiletto heel boots and extremely sexy shoes. The same goes for accessories. I imagined bags with metal jewellery, ideal for the evening. After a year and a half in slippers, I think a lot of women will want to play with their looks!”

È così che la realtà entra in questo universo immaginifico e la trama del film riflette il modo in cui la pandemia ha messo in ‘sospeso’ sfilate ed eventi. Le dive si spazientiscono, salgono sul palco, riempiono la scena con il loro stile e la loro bellezza. “Un giorno o l’altro usciremo di nuovo – afferma Felloni -. Ecco perché ho immaginato stivali con tacco a spillo e scarpe estremamente sexy. Lo stesso vale per gli accessori.

GIULIA CAMPEOL, ALSO KNOWN AS ALLAGIULIA, REREADS IN A YOUNG AND FASHIONABLE KEY THE TRADITIONAL ‘FRIULANA’ BABOUCHE, IN A STRIKING MIX OF TRADITION AND MODERNITY Originally created as the shoe of the poor, the “Friulana” was made from leftover scraps of material and sold by farmers in the countryside on the outskirts of Venice during the post-war period. It’s time for MOJITO BIO by SCARPA

THE COMPANY FROM TREVISO, SPECIALISED IN THE PRODUCTION OF OUTDOOR FOOTWEAR, PRESENTS ITS FIRST MODEL CREATED FROM COMPONENTS OF VEGETABLE ORIGINS, WHICH ARE 100% CERTIFIED BIODEGRADABLE. Footwear, which once it has arrived at the end of its lifecycle, leaves an impact on the environment almost equal to zero, and which after 450 days, has a degradation in landfills equal to 85%: this is the latest innovation from SCARPA, a company founded in 1938 in Asolo, Treviso, which has always stood out for its research and innovation in outdoor and athletic footwear production. The MOJITO BIO is part of the brand’s Urban Outdoor collection for the SS2021 and is revamped in a bio key from the iconic model, which for the first time is now 100% biodegradable thanks to a use of components of vegetable origins. Intertek Green Leaf certification in fact confirms that already after 45 days in controlled conditions according to the ASTM D5511 standard, the percentage of biodegradation of the materials used in the sole, tread, and upper are between 6-8%. Compared to the previous model, MOJITO BIO presents a simplified design, thanks to the elimination of rubber toecaps and heels, thereby eliminating scraps generated during production.

The processing of the knit upper has also avoided further material waste, while the elimination of the metal eyelets has further simplified the productive process.

MOJITO BIO is a ‘Made in Asolo’ product and all the suppliers of the raw materials used in production are carefully selected for their innovative and sustainable industrial practices.

Rispetto al modello precedente, MOJITO BIO presenta un design semplificato, grazie all’eliminazione del puntale e del tallone in gomma, così da azzerare gli scarti di produzione. La lavorazione della tomaia in knit ha inoltre evitato ulteriori avanzi di materiale, mentre la rimozione degli occhielli in metallo ha semplificato maggiormente il processo produttivo. The footwear manufacturing industry: -25% in production and sales in 2020 THE DATA PRESENTED BY THE CONFINDUSTRIA MODA RESEARCH CENTRE FOR ASSOCALZATURIFICI OUTLINE A SECTOR HEAVILY INFLUENCED BY THE PANDEMIC IN ALL LEADING AREAS. EVEN THE FIRST QUARTER OF 2021 BEGAN WITH A -15.1% TREND IN SALES, WITH THE SECTOR’S RECOVERY PUSHED BACK TO THE SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR. The numbers speak loud and clear: 2020 is a year to be forgotten for the Italian footwear manufacturing industry. The negative repercussions of the pandemic were felt both in terms of revenue (-25.2% at 10.72 billion euros), and in terms of production (-27.1% at -130.5 million pairs) and exports (-14.7% in value and -17.4% in quantity).

“In addition to losing around 1/4 of national production and overall turnover, there was also a dramatic drop in the consumption of Italian families, both in terms of amount spent (-23.1%) and quantity (-17.4%). – explains Siro Badon, President of Assocalzaturifici – A significant downtrend, despite double-digit growth in the online channel, which did not manage to make up for the drop-off in shopping by tourists and the lack of revenue generated by them, especially in the luxury range”.

These results translate into a 4% drop in the number of businesses and employees in the sector, with requests for unemployment compensation going through the roof (+900% hours authorised, which is ten times the number requested in 2019).

A context that is definitely not reassuring.

The initial drop-off in business during the first few months of 2020, because of the lockdown, was followed by a slightly less pronounced downtrend (which always remained however in the double digits) instead of the hoped-for reversal. Then, the second wave of the virus interrupted the first timid signs of restarting. And 2021 opened with the same unfavourable trend, highlighting a trend of -15.1% in revenue, which has postponed recovery to the second half of the year.

So, we ask, what are the main trends in 2020 highlighted in the study undertaken by the Confindustria Moda Research Centre?

Exports: South Korea holds steady Among the top 10 export markets, only South Korea grew in value (+1.3% during the first 11 months), but not in quantity (-5.2%). Keeping their losses to a minimum are Switzerland, the third destination for luxury (-7.6%) and China (-4.4%), which is the protagonist is a significant recovery in the two-month period of October/ November (+43%).

Sales towards EU partners are down (-13%), like non-EU sales (-18%). Values in the other main Made in Italy markets also follow a downtrend: North America -30%,

CIS -20%, Middle East -25%, and Far East -13%. Even the foreign trade balance decreases to 14% at 4.2 billion euros.

Italian domestic consumption, classic footwear penalised According to the Sita Ricerca Fashion Consumer Panel for Assocalzaturifici, in 2020, Italian families bought -26 million fewer pairs compared to 2019, with the average price falling by -6.8% because of a greater use of slippers and informal shoes with a lower average value during the months of quarantine.

Men’s and women’s classic shoes were the segment hit the hardest (-30% in quantity), while there was a more moderate loss in children’s classic footwear and sporty shoes/sneakers (-15%), as well as in slippers and shoes for relaxation (-6.1%).

Sales channels: boom in e-commerce The leap forward made by the digital channel in 2020 in Italy was quite remarkable: +30% in quantity and +17% in value, which is not enough however to make up for the losses in the brick&mortar channels. Suffering great losses are traditional retail (-28% pairs and -42% revenue), street vendors (-44.4%), store chains, department stores, and specialised large retail complexes (between -20 and -25%).

Industria calzaturiera: -25% in produzione e in fatturato nel 2020 I DATI FOTOGRAFATI DAL CENTRO STUDIO DI CONFINDUSTRIA MODA PER ASSOCALZATURIFICI MOSTRANO UN SETTORE FORTEMENTE SEGNATO DALLA PANDEMIA IN TUTTE LE PRINCIPALI VARIABILI. E ANCHE IL PRIMO TRIMESTRE 2021 SI APRE CON UN -15,1% TENDENZIALE DI FATTURATO, RIMANDANDO LA RIPARTENZA ALLA SECONDA METÀ DELL’ANNO. I dati parlano chiaro: il 2020 è un anno da dimenticare per il settore calzaturiero italiano. Le conseguenze pesanti della pandemia si sono fatte sentire sia sul campo del fatturato (-25,2% a 10,72 miliardi di euro), sia su quello della produzione (-27,1% a –130,5 milioni di paia) che dell’export (-14,7% in valore e -17,4% in quantità).

“Oltre ad aver lasciato sul terreno circa 1/4 della produzione nazionale e del fatturato complessivo, dobbiamo registrare anche un drastico calo dei consumi delle famiglie italiane, sia nella spesa (-23,1%) che nelle quantità (-17,4%). - spiega Siro Badon, presidente di Assocalzaturifici - Una flessione importante, malgrado una crescita a doppia cifra per il canale online che non riesce a tamponare il crollo dello shopping dei turisti e i mancati introiti da essi derivanti, specialmente per le fasce lusso”.

I dati si traducono in un calo del 4% nel numero di aziende e addetti e al ricorso massiccio alla cassa integrazione (+900% di ore autorizzate, dieci volte il livello del 2019). Un quadro certamente non confortante. Al crollo delle attività nei primi mesi del 2020 per effetto del lockdown, è seguita una attenuazione della caduta (ma sempre a due cifre) invece dell’atteso rimbalzo. Poi la seconda ondata del virus ha interrotto i primi timidi segnali di ripartita. E il 2021 si apre con lo stesso trend sfavorevole, evidenziando un tendenziale -15,1% di fatturato che di fatto rimanda la ripresa alla seconda parte dell’anno.

Ma quali sono i principali indicatori del 2020 evidenziati dall’analisi del centro Studio di Confindustria Moda?

Export: tiene la Corea del Sud Tra i primi 10 mercati dell’export solo la Corea del Sud cresce di valore (+1,3% nei primi 11 mesi) ma non in quantità (-5,2%). Contengono le perdite la Svizzera, destinazione del terzismo del lusso (-7,6%), e la Cina (-4,4%) protagonista di un grande recupero nel bimestre ottobre-novembre (+43%).

Le vendite verso i partner dell’UE sono in sofferenza (-13%), come quelle extra UE (-18%). I valori negli altri principali mercati del made in Italy sono in calo: Nord America -30%, CSI -20%, Medio Oriente -25%, Far East -13%. Anche il saldo commerciale estero si riduce del 14% a 4,2 miliardi di euro.

A mio parere il lavoro è vita e la vita è lavoro. Noi siamo lo specchio di quanto viviamo fuori dal lavoro e viceversa. Chi è insoddisfatto del proprio lavoro, porta a casa questa insoddisfazione e viceversa, e se è vero che c’è una responsabilità dell’ambiente aziendale verso le famiglie, è vero, però, anche il contrario. Ognuno deve svolgere la propria vita personale al pieno delle sue possibilità, così da poter essere una persona di successo anche sul lavoro. Chi cerca i compromessi a casa, li cerca anche sul lavoro”.

Ma come si passa dalle belle parole alla realtà dei fatti? Come si dà vita ad una realtà aziendale dove esistono davvero dei valori condivisi e si crea valore e qualità di vita per tutti coloro che ne fanno parte? “Ho sempre immaginato un mondo in cui la parola-chiave fosse ‘gentilezza’ -afferma Campara -, un mondo dove vincesse chi se lo merita, ma dove anche chi non ha vinto ha avuto voce. Un mondo in cui non esistono razze, non esiste distinzione tra uomo o donna… Io mi reputo una persona ‘intensa’: in ogni cosa che faccio vado fino in fondo col cuore e con la testa, e quando sono diventato leader di questo collettivo, questi sono stati i principi che mi hanno ispirato. Bisogna crederci, non è un business. Essere leader di persone, è cosa da persone, non da slide di Power Point. A monte ci deve essere prima di tutto una onesta presa di posizione del leader: se gli stakeholder chiedono un’azienda inclusiva, equa, socialmente rilevante ecc, prima di tutto ci devo credere io come leader. Se non ci credi, sei solo una comparsa, non sei un leader”.

Il CEO di Golden Goose afferma, inoltre, che questa ‘centralità della persona’, che l’avvento del Covid-19 ha accelerato e ha portato a essere un’esigenza imprescindibile per le aziende, è anche importante in un’ottica di marketing. “Nel mondo pre-covid erano importanti le 4 P – afferma Campara: Product (il prodotto), Place (il luogo dove si svolgeva la vendita), Promotion (come si raccontava il prodotto), Price (il prezzo). MAN The digital edition of Pitti Uomo 99 remained online on Pitti Connect until last April 5th. The more than 200 men's fashion brands exhibited on the platform reached record performances: visits increased by 56%, page views increased by +68% compared to the summer event and the number of buyers who interacted with exhibitors arrived at 8 thousand.

L'edizione digitale di Pitti Uomo 99 è rimasta online su Pitti Connect fino allo scorso 5 aprile. Gli oltre 200 brand di moda maschile esposti sulla piattaforma hanno registrato performance record: le visite sono aumentate del 56%, le visualizzazioni di pagina hanno segnato un +68% rispetto alla manifestazione estiva e il numero di buyer che hanno interagito con gli espositori è arrivato a quota 8mila.

Great Expectations for Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags: the physical edition in July A PHYSICAL EDITION OF THE APPOINTMENT WITH THE INTERNATIONAL MARKETPLACE DEDICATED TO VOLUME FOOTWEAR, LEATHER GOODS AND ACCESSORIES MAKES ITS RETURN TO RIVA DEL GARDA FROM 18 TO 20 JULY, IN FULL COMPLIANCE WITH SAFETY REGULATIONS, WHILE FOCUSING ON A PHYGITAL FORMULA. With the green light just given by the Italian Government, Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags do not make a sector that has already waited long enough wait any longer for the opportunity to return to a physical fair where it is possible to interact with one another, scheduling the respective 95th and 6th editions of these two fairs from 18 to 20 July, in the Riva del Garda trade fair district.

The dates are one month later than the normal summer edition: the new positioning on the trade fair calendar was chosen after asking the opinion of the event’s international stakeholders, following a programme that wants to provide businesses and their activities with certainties and the perfect timing in presenting the Summer 2022 collections. At the same time, it aims to guarantee that the activities of event are undertaken in complete safety. In this regard, a special sanitary protocol has been developed with measures concerning access and presence of visitors to the fair, with the creation of structured and rational paths, and an internal triage service with quick post-demonstration swab tests.

A courageous decision that would like to mark the restart of recovery for the sector, which was hit very hard by the pandemic: “In the 15 months that have passed since the last physical edition of the fair, digital has enabled us to contain the unpleasant consequences that the pandemic has had, and continues to have on the footwear and leather goods markets. Nevertheless, the fashion industry continues to be very strongly linked with the real experience: it needs to touch and feel components, materials, designs and products - underlined Alessandra Albarelli, Managing Director of Riva del Garda Fierecongress, and organiser of the event. - At this moment in time, a physical event would provide a concrete and timely opportunity for the companies in the industry to restart, and an opportunity that we would like to augment through

the digital know-how that we have acquired during this period of forced arrest.”

The formula proposed will integrate the physical with digital, bringing to the forefront a hybrid network, capable of uniting, positively, the two elements in a proactive manner.

Thus, in this perspective of synergy between the two channels, starting from June 13th and continuing until 30th September 2021, the Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags community will have the opportunity to access the virtual platform which, over the past few months, has paved the way towards a return to the physical fair, with a path that is oriented towards business, networking and updates, packed with proposals and innovative ideas. A tour that combines the best of online and offline, and which will culminate with the physical edition of the fair from July 18th to 20th: “Trade fairs are a crucial tool for supporting the economic and industrial systems of the countries involved, and, for them to get back in full swing, the effort required is great and complex - concludes Roberto Pellegrini, Chairman of Riva del Garda Fierecongressi. – It is necessary to look to technology and safety in order to be competitive and it will be a long job for sure, but the important thing is to enable traditional organisational processes to coexist with the new opportunities offered by digitalisation, forming a virtuous integration which will be fundamental in getting the entire system going again.”

Grande attesa per Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags: l’edizione fisica a luglio TORNA IN PRESENZA L’APPUNTAMENTO CON IL MARKETPLACE INTERNAZIONALE DEDICATO ALLA CALZATURA DI VOLUME, ALLA PELLETTERIA E ALL’ACCESSORIO DI RIVA DEL GARDA: DAL 18 AL 20 LUGLIO, NEL PIENO RISPETTO DELLE NORME DI SICUREZZA E PUNTANDO SU UNA FORMULA PHYGITAL. Appena arrivato il via libera del Governo Italiano, Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags non fanno aspettare il settore che da molto tempo attende l’occasione di tornare a confrontarsi dal vivo e fissano rispettivamente la loro 95.ma e sesta edizione dal 18 al 20 luglio, presso il quartiere fieristico di Riva del Garda.

Un mese dopo il consueto appuntamento estivo: il nuovo posizionamento sul calendario fieristico è stato scelto dopo aver consultato gli stakeholders internazionali della manifestazione, seguendo una programmazione che vuole dare riferimenti certi alle aziende e alle loro attività e un efficace timing per la presentazione delle collezioni Estate 2022, e al tempo stesso garantire lo svolgimento dei lavori nella massima sicurezza. Al proposito, infatti, è stato sviluppato uno speciale protocollo sanitario con misure per gli accessi, la permanenza in fiera con percorsi strutturati e razionali, e un servizio di triage interno con tamponature rapide post manifestazione.

ICF – Industrie Chimiche Forestali acquires Morel.

“United you win and have more fun” AN AGREEMENT HAS BEEN SIGNED FOR THE ACQUISITION OF THE MOREL BRANCH, A HISTORIC ITALIAN BRAND, LEADER IN COMPONENTS (TOEPUFFS AND COUNTERS) FOR HIGH-END FOOTWEAR AND LEATHER GOODS figure obtainable already in the short term by making the structure more efficient and obtaining important operational synergies.

The price of the transaction, to be paid in 3 tranches by March 2022, will be equal to 2.759.000 euro. Luca Bonfanti, current majority shareholder of Morel, will be involved in the integration and further development process of the company”.

What made you decide to finalise this acquisition?

“ICF and Morel are two Italian companies with 100 years of history behind them that unite to find synergies at all levels and to become, together, even stronger on the global footwear and leather goods market.

With the agreement for the acquisition of the MOREL branch, ICF aims to strengthen its presence in the luxury footwear and leather goods market by creating commercial synergies thanks to the complementarity of the products and the customer base.

Through the transaction, ICF aims to expand its offer by integrating the Morel brand, dedicated to semi-finished products for luxury footwear and leather goods, into the Forestali, Durabond and ABC brands. The agreement shall allow Morel, currently owned by the Bonfanti family, to accelerate its development process towards new markets and customer segments.

Guido Cami, President & CEO of Industrie Chimiche Forestali S.p.A., explains the strategy underlying this acquisition.

You started 2021 with an important transaction despite the complicated times...

“We ended 2020 with satisfaction and, despite the drop in turnover to 61 million euro due to the impact of the pandemic, we managed to consolidate an Ebitda close to 12%, a reported net profit of over 2.2 million euro (3.3 adjusted) and a good net cash flow generation.

We “bought back” over 1.4 million euro, acquired the property nearby to develop the logistics of a new product line and made investments in machinery, systems and safety for almost 1.5 million euro.

The business combination of last August, the adoption of the IAS/IFRS accounting principles and the Sustainability Report, as well as the proposal for a dividend in May of 14 cents per share to be approved at the Shareholders’ Meeting on 30 April, are all initiatives that demonstrate that we are still alive!

The team is always very strong and healthy, with the guard up to fight this pandemic.

Thanks to our vitality, we were also able to sign the agreement for the acquisition of the Morel branch, a historic Italian company founded in 1926 and manufacturer of technical fabrics for high-end footwear and leather goods.

Brand, know-how, machines, systems, equipment and craftsmanship are part of the agreement”.

What are the numbers of Morel and of this transaction?

“In 2019 the company branch registered a turnover of 7 million euro, reduced to approximately 5 million euro in 2020 due to the Covid 19 pandemic, over 50% of which realised abroad, with a percentage margin close to the double

How did this new year 2021 start?

“It started great with amazing volumes, but bad as for the vertical price rise of raw materials and the related, very scarce availability.

What can I say: sailing with the cool breeze, under the sun, with no waves or countercurrents is practically impossible these days. But good sailors are always in the storm! Thus, we move forward at full speed carefully analysing the market and all the players involved”.

Attraverso l’operazione, ICF punta ad ampliare la propria offerta integrando ai marchi Forestali, Durabond e ABC, anche il marchio Morel dedicato ai prodotti semifiniti per le calzature e la pelletteria di lusso. Avete aperto il 2021 con una importante operazione nonostante il momento complicato…

“Abbiamo archiviato con soddisfazione il 2020 che, nonostante il calo di fatturato a 61 milioni di euro dovuto all’impatto della pandemia, ci ha permesso di consolidare un Ebitda prossimo al 12%, un utile netto reported di oltre 2,2 milioni di euro (3,3 adjusted) e una buona generazione di cassa netta.

Abbiamo fatto “buy back” per oltre 1,4 milioni di euro, comprato l’immobile a noi adiacente per sviluppare la logistica di una nuova linea di prodotti e fatto investimenti in macchinari, impianti e sicurezza per quasi 1,5 milioni di euro.

La business combination di agosto scorso, l’adozione dei principi contabili IAS/IFRS e il Bilancio di Sostenibilità, così come la proposta di un dividendo a maggio di 14 centesimi per azione da approvare in Assemblea al 30 aprile, sono tutte iniziative che dimostrano che siamo ancora vivi!

La squadra è sempre fortissima e sana, con la guardia alzata per contrastare

la pandemia. Grazie a questa nostra vitalità siamo anche riusciti a siglare l’accordo per l’acquisizione del Ramo di Azienda di Morel, azienda storica italiana nata nel 1926 e produttrice di tessuti tecnici per la calzatura e la pelletteria di altissima gamma. Marchio, know how, macchine, impianti, attrezzature e uomini sono all’interno dell’accordo”.

Quali i numeri di Morel e di questa operazione?

“Il ramo d’azienda nel 2019 ha registrato un giro di affari di 7 milioni di euro, ridotto a circa Euro 5 milioni nel 2020 a causa della pandemia Covid 19, di cui oltre il 50% realizzato all’estero, con una marginalità percentuale prossima alla doppia cifra ottenibile già nel breve periodo attraverso l’efficientamento della struttura e l’ottenimento di importanti sinergie operative. Il prezzo dell’operazione, da corrispondersi in 3 tranche entro marzo 2022, sarà pari a 2.759.000 euro. Luca Bonfanti, attuale socio di maggioranza di Morel, sarà coinvolto nel processo di integrazione e ulteriore sviluppo dell’azienda”.

Cosa l’ha convinta a finalizzare questa acquisizione?

“ICF e Morel sono due aziende italiane con 100 anni di storia alle spalle che si uniscono per trovare sinergie a tutti i livelli e per diventare, insieme, ancora più forti sul mercato della calzatura e della pelletteria globale.

Come è partito questo 2021?

“Alla grandissima per i volumi, ma male per la salita verticale del prezzo delle materie prime e la relativa, scarsissima disponibilità. Che dire: navigare con il venticello fresco, sotto il sole, senza onde né corrente contraria è praticamente impossibile di questi tempi. Ma i buoni marinai sono sempre nella tempesta! E, quindi, andiamo avanti a tutta forza analizzando con cura il mercato e tutti gli attori coinvolti”.

The market pushes on CFP QUANTIFYING CO² EMISSIONS OVER THE ENTIRE LIFE CYCLE RESPONDS TO CUSTOMER ENVIRONMENTAL POLICIES BUT ALLOWS ALSO TO DIRECT ONE’S R&D DEPARTMENT. Increasingly often the purchasing departments of the automotive or fashion sector ask their suppliers for precise information on the CO² emissions of the raw materials or semi-finished products they intend to purchase.

These requests are often related to the environmental policies that the major brands of reference introduce in response to the increasingly alarming appeals of scientists against climate change and to trying to anticipate the new regulations, now in preparation in many countries.

The value that summarises the CO² emissions generated throughout the life cycle of a product is known with the mix of English and Italian words “Carbon Footprint of Product”, or more briefly CFP. Considering all the CO² emissions generated along the entire life cycle of the product, effectively represented with the evocative words “from the cradle to the grave”, means collecting all the contributions of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) that occur at the extraction of raw materials, their processing, transport, production of a good, the subsequent transfer to the market, use stage and end of life. The quantification of CFP is carried out following the dictates of the international standard UNI EN ISO 14067, published in 2018.

The values calculated in this way are then subjected to a third-party verification by an accredited Verifier, in Italy by Accredia, which issues a certificate that entitles you to request registration in the Carbon Footprint Italy (CFI) programme.

The CFI label can directly be affixed on the product packaging or on the technical data sheets, according to the different needs, together with a QrCode that sends you to the dedicated page of each product containing all of CFP data (see the Dani tannery spreadsheet), thus being able to satisfy every possible customer request.

This information will therefore be quickly and effectively available to other customers, although not as sensitive on the subject, demonstrating the achievement of a result that helps to differ from competitors.The development of a single CFP represents a non-negligible commitment in terms of company resources and undertaking a similar path for each different product could be an excessively demanding challenge for a medium-sized company. To overcome this problem and allow the development of CFP to be systematised within each company, ISO 14067 has dedicated a specific attachment to the CFP Systematic Approach (CFP SA). By applying the CFP SA, a company is able to calculate the CFP of each of its individual products in less than one day, rather than over the course of several months. A further advantage of CFP SA is the ability to evaluate how the overall impact of a product varies with the variation of some specific input data such as, for example, raw materials.

CFP SA thus becomes a very powerful tool in the hands of Research and Development to better understand the implications in terms of CO² and of new products and to be able to provide, in this direction, increasingly efficient answers to the most demanding customers. edited by Daniele Pernigotti

CARBON FOOTPRINT DI PRODOTTO La Carbon Footprint di Prodotto (CFP) è la quantificazione delle emissioni di gas ad effetto serra (GHG) calcolate sulla base della metodologia della Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).

Nel conteggio sono quindi considerate tanto le emissioni collegate all’estrazione e trasformazione della materia prima, quanto quelle legate alla produzione, al trasporto, all’utilizzo e lo smaltimento finale del prodotto. Introdurre la CFP significa comprendere quali di queste fasi sono maggiormente critiche in termini di emissioni GHG, rendendo possibile l’attuazione di efficaci interventi di riduzione delle stesse.

CARBON FOOTPRINT AEQUILIBRIA

Il mercato spinge sulla CFP QUANTIFICARE LE EMISSIONI DI CO² LUNGO L’INTERO CICLO DI VITA RISPONDE ALLE POLITICHE AMBIENTALI DELLA CLIENTELA MA PERMETTE ANCHE DI ORIENTARE IL PROPRIO REPARTO R&S. Sempre più spesso gli uffici acquisti del settore automotive, o della moda, richiedono ai propri fornitori delle informazioni precise sulle emissioni di CO² delle materie prime o semilavorati che intendono acquistare.

Tali richieste sono spesso legate alle politiche ambientali che i grossi marchi di riferimento introducono in risposta agli appelli sempre più allarmanti degli scienziati del clima e per cercare di anticipare le nuove normative, ormai in preparazione in molti paesi.

Il valore che sintetizza le emissioni di CO² generate lungo tutto il ciclo di vita di un prodotto è conosciuto con la miscela di parole inglesi ed italiane di “Carbon Footprint di prodotto”, o più brevemente come CFP. Considerare tutte le emissioni di CO² generate lungo l’intero ciclo di vita del prodotto, rappresentato in modo efficace con le parole evocative “dalla culla alla tomba”, vuol dire raccogliere tutti i contributi di emissioni di gas ad effetto serra (GHG) che si hanno dall’estrazione delle materie prime, la loro lavorazione, il trasporto, la produzione di un bene, il successivo conferimento nel mercato, la fase d’uso e il fine vita. La quantificazione della CFP viene effettuata seguendo i dettami dello standard internazionale UNI EN ISO 14067, pubblicato nel 2018.I valori così calcolati sono poi sottoposti a una verifica di parte terza da un Verificatore accreditato, in Italia da Accredia, che rilascia un attestato attraverso cui è poi possibile richiedere la registrazione nel programma Carbon Footprint Italy (CFI).

Il marchio CFI può essere apposto direttamente sulla confezione dei prodotti o nelle schede tecniche, in funzione delle diverse esigenze, insieme a un QrCode che manda alla pagina dedicata ad ogni prodotto con tutti i dati di CFP (vedi il foglio di calcolo della conceria Dani), potendo così soddisfare ogni possibile richiesta dei clienti. Tali informazioni saranno così disponibili in modo rapido ed efficace anche ad altri clienti, sebbene non altrettanto sensibili sul tema, dimostrando il raggiungimento di un risultato che porta a differenziarsi rispetto ai concorrenti.

Lo sviluppo di una singola CFP rappresenta un impegno non trascurabile in termini di risorse aziendali e intraprendere un percorso simile per ogni diverso prodotto potrebbe essere una sfida eccessivamente impegnativa per un’azienda di medie dimensioni. Per superare questo problema e consentire di sistematizzare lo sviluppo della CFP all’interno di ogni azienda la ISO 14067 ha dedicato un allegato specifico alla CFP Systematic Approach (CFP SA). Applicando la CFP SA un’azienda è in grado di calcolare la CFP di ogni suo singolo prodotto in meno di una giornata, invece che nel corso di diversi mesi.

Daniele Pernigotti, Sole Administrator of Aequilibria Srl, he has been representing Italy for over 15 years at the ISO tables that develop environmental management regulations (ISO/TC 207). In addition to being part of the Strategic Leadership Group of ISO/TC 207, he has been the Coordinator of the international working group that developed ISO 14067, the international standard to quantify the CFP. Oltre a far parte dello Strategic Leadership Group dell’ISO/TC 207, è stato il Coordinatore del gruppo di lavoro internazionale che ha sviluppato la ISO 14067, lo standard internazionale per il calcolo della CFP. Aver guidato in prima persona lo sviluppo di questa importante norma gli ha consentito di applicarla in corso d’opera con una serie di casi studio, riuscendo a completare la verifica delle prime 3 CFP SA al mondo, dopo appena poche settimane dalla pubblicazione della norma.

Fashion and sustainability: from consumption towards an ethical supply chain A SERIES OF SEMINARS PROMOTED BY THE SANTA CATERINA DA SIENA UNIVERSITY COLLEGE IN PAVIA ADDRESSES THE ISSUE OF ENVIRONMENTAL AND ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITY, STARTING FROM PURCHASING DECISIONS AND HUMAN RIGHTS IN ACTIVITIES OF THE FASHION SUPPLY CHAIN. Two prominent guest speakers at the series of seminars “Fashion and sustainability” of the Santa Caterina da Siena University College in Pavia, passionately address two thorny sustainability themes in the fashion field. Marina Spadafora is an ambassador of ethical fashion in the world, both through her FWAM (Fashion with a Mission) platform for the development of emerging countries and as national coordinator of Fashion Revolution (activist movement for responsible fashion) in Italy.

She is an entrepreneur, owner of an experimental knitwear brand and has important collaborations with brands like Ferragamo, Prada, Miu Miu and Marni. She is also creative director of “Aucteurs du Monde”, Altromercato’s sustainable and supportive fashion line that respects the rights of fashion and textile artisans worldwide, for whose commitment she received the UN “Woman Together Award”. Starting from her recent publication written in collaboration with Luisa Ciuni: “The revolution starts in your closet” published by Solferino, explains how to buy responsibly.

Associate Professor in International and Supranational Public and Private Law at the Law Faculty of the State University of Milan, Angelica Bonfanti is also the Head of studies of the LL.M. in Sustainable Development and Human Rights. In her report she reveals current and developing legislative instruments to protect fashion supply chain workers.

The revolution starts in your closet “There is no beauty in the finest cloth if it makes hunger and unhappiness” Marina Spadafora’s report starts from the famous quote by Mahatma Gandhi to affirm the need for an approach to fashion that maximises the benefits on communities while minimising the impact on the environment. “It is a question of balance between social, environmental and economic aspects - she explains - people, the planet and profit must be on the same level”. Poverty and the exploitation of the workforce in the fashion supply chain affect both industry and social stability in producing countries, where protests multiply to obtain a living wedge (a salary that allows a dignified lifestyle, which does not just offer the possibility to eat, but also to educate children, to access health services and make a profit): “A t-shirt consists of 60% cotton, 20% sweat and 20% blood”, admonishes Marina Spadafora.

Respect for the environment is not accomplished through one-off actions, but by applying a solid business model based on sustainability that looks at the entire supply chain, from farmers who must be helped to produce fibres with less water waste and without the use of harmful chemical fertilisers,“What the Better Cotton Initiative is doing, for example”, and in respect of animals. The production must promote efficient processes based on energy saving, avoiding waste, using natu-

But this does not suffice: “also the consumer must play his part, starting with responsible consumption, avoiding to further expand textile landfills in the world, a shameful scourge” states Marina Spadafora, revealing her ideas how to build a sustainable closet: - Buy local to reduce carbon footprint - Buy vintage (which is also fashionable) - Buy fair-trade, checking the product label well and relying on the Fashion Revolution sustainable fashion map – Buy garments made with recycled materials - Buy garments with heavy metal-free natural dyed fabrics - Buy tailor made: choose unsold fabrics and take them to a tailor -Reward by your own choice the brands that adopt a concrete CSR - Corporate Social Responsability - Promote Swap Parties with friends/colleagues (parties to exchange clothes) - Mend clothes creatively to give them new life Marina Spadafora ends her speech by citing stylist Vivienne Westwood as admonishment “Buy less, choose well, make it last”: sustainable fashion depends also on you”.

Fashion and human rights “The difference between ethical and label price is paid by those who work in the supply chain. And the fashion supply chain is very long: Western brands relocate to countries where workers’ rights are low, both in terms of protection and wages.

Their productions are often harmful to the environment and their deleterious effects reverberate on local communities.

These practices, which previously were overlooked, have forcefully risen to the fore after the collapse of the Rana Plaza where in 2013 1134 workers, mainly women, in the textile-fashion sector were killed and another 3000 were injured: a shock that has moved the public opinion worldwide”. This is how Angelica Bonfanti’s report starts, highlighting the critical aspect of the question: who should be held accountable for this?

The different national legislations, the limited liability by virtue of the contracts signed with the manufacturing companies, make it difficult for the victims to assert their rights and obtain any compensation from multinational clients.

Thus even tragedies such as the Rana Plaza in Bangladesh and another emblematic case such as the Ali Enterprise in Pakistan (in the fire of which 260 workers died in 2012) have managed to obtain partial justice: in the first case, only the strength of the public opinion forced client brands to set up a fund of 30 million dollars for the victims, while in the second case, the class action against the German Kik, the main buyer of the Pakistani factory, failed to make the company assume its responsibilities and it was resolved with a “courtesy” compensation of over 5 million dollars.

While it is already difficult to enforce human rights under normal conditions, with the pandemic the situation has worsened with an exponential number of violations.

“The Covid pandemic has seriously affected the fashion supply chain, - Angelica Bonfanti denounces - the closure of supplies to Asian countries, the cancellations of orders alleged by force majeure by multinational fashion companies, have caused enormous losses to the factories of the supply chain, a situation that has reverberated on workers with the decimation of wages (with peaks of -50% in Bangladesh, Cambodia and India) or the loss of work, affecting also the same social stability of the producing countries”.

La rivoluzione comincia dal tuo armadio “There is no beauty in the finest cloth if it makes hunger and unhappiness” (non c’è bellezza dell’abito più fine, se crea fame e infelicità): la relazione di Marina Spadafora parte dalla celebre citazione del Mahatma Gandhi per affermare la necessità di un approccio alla moda che massimizzi i benefici sulle comunità riducendo al minimo l’impatto sull’ambiente. “È una questione di equilibrio tra aspetto sociale, ambientale ed economico – spiega – persone, pianeta e profitto devono stare sullo stesso livello”. La povertà e lo sfruttamento della forza lavoro della filiera moda influiscono sulla stabilità dell’industria stessa e sociale dei paesi produttori, dove si moltiplicano le proteste per ottenere un living wedge (uno stipendio che permetta un dignitoso stile di vita, che offra la possibilità non solo di cibarsi, ma anche di dare una educazione ai figli, di accedere a servizi sanitari e realizzare un guadagno): “Una t-shirt è per il 60% cotone, il 20% sudore e 20% sangue”, ammonisce Marina Spadafora.

Il rispetto dell’ambiente si compie non con azioni una tantum, ma applicando un solido modello di business improntato alla sostenibilità che guarda a tutta la filiera, dai coltivatori che devono essere aiutati a produrre fibre con minore spreco di acqua e senza fertilizzanti chimici nocivi, “quello che sta facendo la Better Cotton Initiative, ad esempio”, e nel rispetto degli animali, alla produzione che deve promuovere processi efficienti improntati al risparmio energetico, ad evitare sprechi, ad utilizzare materie prime naturali, biodegradabili e/o riciclate. Ma non basta: “anche il consumatore deve fare la sua parte, incominciando da un consumo responsabile, per evitare di ingrossare ulteriormente le discariche tessili nel mondo, una piaga vergognosa” dichiara Marina Spadafora, svelando le sue idee per costruire un armadio sostenibile: - Comprare localmente per ridurre l’impatto di CO2 - Comprare vintage (che va anche di moda) - Comprare equo e solidale, controllando bene l’etichetta del prodotto e appoggiandosi sulla mappa di moda sostenibile di Fashion Revolution - Acquistare capi realizzati con materiali riciclati - Acquistare capi con tessuti tinti in modo naturale, senza metalli pesanti - Acquistare su misura: scegliere tessuti invenduti e portarli da un sarto - Premiare con la propria scelta i brand che adottano una concreta CSR- Corporate Social Responsability - Promuovere Swap Party (feste per scambiarsi gli abiti) con amici/colleghi - Utilizzare il riammendo creativo per dare nuova vita agli abiti Marina Spadafora chiude il suo intervento citando, come ammonimento, la stilista

Vivienne Westwood “Buy less, choose well, make it last” (compra meno, scegli meglio e fallo durare): la moda sostenibile dipende anche da te”.

Moda e diritti umani “La differenza tra il prezzo etico e quello dell’etichetta lo paga chi lavora nella filiera.

E la filiera della moda è molto lunga: i marchi occidentali delocalizzano in Paesi dove i diritti dei lavoratori sono bassi, sia a livello di tutela che di stipendi. Le loro produzioni spesso sono dannose per l’ambiente e i loro effetti nocivi si riverberano sulle comunità locali. Queste pratiche, che prima passavano in sordina, sono prepotentemente salite alla ribalta dopo il crollo del Rana Plaza in cui nel 2013 hanno trovato la morte 1134 lavoratori, soprattutto donne, del settore tessile-moda, e altri 3000 sono rimasti feriti: uno shock che ha mosso l’opinione pubblica mondiale”.

Comincia così la relazione di Angelica Bonfanti mettendo in risalto l’aspetto critico della questione: di chi deve essere la responsabilità?

Le diverse legislazioni nazionali, la responsabilità limitata in virtù dei contratti siglati con le aziende produttrici, rendono difficile alle vittime di far valere i propri diritti ed ottenere eventuali risarcimenti dalle multinazionali committenti. Così anche tragedie come il Rana Plaza in Bangladesh e un altro caso emblematico come la Ali Enterprise in Pakistan (nel cui incendio del 2012 sono morti 260 lavoratori) sono riuscite ad ottenere una parziale giustizia: nel primo caso, solo la forza dell’opinione pubblica ha costretto i brand committenti a costituire un fondo di 30 milioni di dollari per le vittime, mentre nel secondo caso, la class action contro la tedesca Kik, principale acquirente della fabbrica pakistana, non è riuscita a far assumere all’azienda le proprie responsabilità e si è risolta con un indennizzo in termini “cortesi” di oltre 5 milioni di dollari.

Se già in condizioni di normalità è difficile far valere i diritti umani, con la pandemia la situazione si è aggravata, registrando un numero esponenziale di violazioni. “La pandemia del Covid ha inciso gravemente sulla filiera moda, - denuncia Angelica Bonfanti - la chiusura delle forniture ai paesi asiatici, gli annullamenti di ordini addotti con la causa di forza maggiore da parte delle multinazionali della moda, hanno causato perdite enormi alle fabbriche della filiera, situazione che si è riverberata sui lavoratori con la decimazione dei salari (con picchi del -50% in Bangladesh, Cambogia e India) o la perdita del lavoro, ma anche sulla tenuta sociale stessa dei paesi produttori”.

What can we do to restore fair conditions? “The point is that there is no international law instrument that sets a standard on human rights - explains Angelica Bonfanti - there are Universal Human Rights and the Fundamental Rights of Workers who oppose forced labour and child labour, there are Rights of Association sanctioned by countless conventions by all countries ... But the gap between what is sanctioned and what is respected is still very large. There are also voluntary protocols, but not mandatory tools for the fashion industry”.

The way out was indicated by the United Nations Council on Human Rights in 2011 which encouraged countries to adopt the guiding principles of Human Right Due Diligence, a legislative instrument that brings about a real Copernican revolution, making companies that operate in the global context respect human rights throughout the supply chain, identifying, preventing, mitigating the impact and risks associated with their multinational activities.

“The European Union is currently discussing the adoption of a Human Rights Due Diligence Regulation which should impose the ethical and environmental responsibility of the parent companies on the entire global supply chain - explains Angelica Bonfanti - I hope that this directive, if adopted, will not only end with an obligation of transparency for companies, but that it also includes liability in the event of infringements, damages, etc. If so, the victims, regardless of their country of origin, will be able to assert their rights by going to a European court. It is a huge step, and I just don’t know if it will pass ...”.

From a moral point of view, the responsibility of fashion multinationals on their international supply chain is unquestionable. It must now be made binding with an instrument of law by which and, also thanks to an increasingly aware public opinion, it hopefully will be realised soon.

Cosa fare per ristabilire condizioni di equità? “Il punto è che non esiste uno strumento di diritto internazionale che fissi uno standard sui diritti umani – spiega Angelica Bonfanti – ci sono i Diritti Universali dell’Uomo e i Diritti Fondamentali dei Lavoratori che avversano il lavoro forzato e il lavoro minorile, ci sono i Diritti di Associazione sanciti da innumerevoli convenzioni da parte di tutti i Paesi... Ma il divario tra quanto è sancito e quanto è rispettato è ancora molto largo. Per l’industria della moda ci sono anche protocolli volontari, ma non strumenti obbligatori”.

La via d’uscita l’ha indicata il Concilio delle Nazioni Unite sui Diritti Umani del 2011 che ha incoraggiato i paesi ad adottare i principi guida dell’Human Rights Due Diligence, strumento legislativo che opera una vera e propria rivoluzione copernicana, rendendo responsabili le imprese che operano nel contesto globale del rispetto dei diritti umani lungo tutta la filiera, identificando, prevenendo, mitigando l’impatto e i rischi connessi alle loro attività multinazionali.

“Attualmente in Unione Europea si sta discutendo di adottare un Regolamento di Human Due Rights Diligence che dovrebbe imporre la responsabilità etica e ambientale delle aziende capogruppo su tutta la filiera globale. – spiega Angelica Bonfanti – Spero che questa direttiva, se sarà adottata, non si esaurisca solo ad un obbligo di trasparenza per le imprese, ma che includa anche una responsabilità in caso di infrazioni, danni, eccetera. In caso positivo, le vittime, indipendentemente dal proprio paese di origine, potranno far valere i propri diritti rivolgendosi ad un tribunale europeo. Si tratta di un passo enorme, che non so se passerà...”.

Dal punto di vista morale, è indubbia la responsabilità delle multinazionali della moda sulla propria filiera internazionale, bisogna ora renderla vincolante con uno strumento di legge che, anche grazie ad una opinione pubblica sempre più consapevole, ci si auspica diventi presto concreto.

The formulas are different and range from the development of innovative materials to bio-based and recycled materials, which fully embrace all the principles of circularity. Here, as follows, are some of the most important examples of this virtuous pathway that fully replies to the increasingly high demand for sustainable products by the market and by consumers.

Nonostante in molti paesi i lockdown per contenere la diffusione della pandemia abbiano ridotto l’attività umana, l’anno scorso è stato il più caldo di sempre, registrando nuovi picchi di emissioni nocive. Recycling is at the heart of two other projects. The first sees the eco-sustainable evolution of the Lincoln sneaker by Fred Mello, an Italian brand of New York inspiration: icon of the last season, for the FW21-22 collection, it features sustainable materials characterised by a quality that does not compromise. The lining is in 100% recycled mesh, which is resistant, long-lasting, and reusable, while the action leather and suede upper comes from tanneries selected by The Leather Working Group (LWG), an organisation focused on protecting the environment by using green and ethical processes in leather production. The tongue, laces, and labels likewise use recycled materials that are certified by Global Recycle Standard (GRS). Finally, the packaging is 100% made from recycled paper. The other project is that of the Italian company Pantofola d’Oro, which uses new sustainable materials to express the nostalgic-chic aura of its sneakers, and presents B-Golf, the sneaker with a sole made from re-rubber (20% recycled rubber and 80% virgin rubber), an insole in Recycled Foam (20%), and an upper in Bioskin on a polyester base. Timeless, instead, is made from Rebotilia, a material derived from recycled plastic bottles with a Recycled Foam sole.

Giving life to innovative bio-based materials The Germany company Adidas has developed an innovative fabric from mushroom mycelium in collaboration with Bold Threads, the biotechnology company committed to creating the latest generation of advanced materials, for the new Stan Smith Mylo line. Mylo is characterised by high-performance features: similar to leather, it is soft, elastic, and versatile, since it is compatible with any colour, finish or embossing. The shoes of the line are entirely made from this new material, with the exception of the midsole, which is in natural rubber.
