15 years in “the rabbit hole”
FINNISH DESIGNER MINNA PARIKKA CELEBRATES THE 15TH ANNIVERSARY OF HER SELF-NAMED BRAND WITH AN EXHIBITION OF HER MOST ICONIC FOOTWEAR MODELS DURING HELSINKI FASHION WEEK An instant celebrity thanks to her iconic Bunnies sneaker with rabbit ears, Finnish designer Minna Parikka celebrated the 15 th anniversary of her internationally renowned brand with a memorable exhibition held at the flagship store in Helsinki, which was inserted in the official programme of Helsinki Fashion Week, from 3 to 13 September. Minna Parikka was just 15 years old “when she fell into the rabbit hole of the White Rabbit of creativity”: ever since, she has not come out, and just like an inspired Alice, has decided to follow her dream of giving life to amazing footwear. The exhibition “Minna Parikka – 15 Years of Shoe Love” reveals her great love for shoes in a timeline that unwinds among her most acclaimed shoe models: in addition to the iconic Bunnies series – a theme developed also in flats, boots, and pumps-, is the destructured Hearts Oxford with laces embellished by little hearts, Rainbow sneakers with rainbow platforms, and Sushi sandals with the nose of the quarter adorned with sashimi and futomaki... The creations of Minna Parikka are characterised by their originality and playful tone, a naïve touch that has conquered fans around the world, including VIPs for example like Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Cara Delevigne, and the Kardashian sisters.

Cradle to Cradle Certified™ identifies safer, more sustainable products, made for the circular economy. Texon became involved in the Cradle to Cradle community in 2019 at the invitation of G-Star Raw, which wanted to source an environmentally friendly jacron label material, aligned with the high standards it sets for its denim range. Based on Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper, Texon Vogue is already a highly sustainable product. Recognized as a vegan friendly alternative to leather-based products, this durable, washable, paper-based material has a range of uses and is certified for jacron applications - including the production of jean labels. At the request of G-Star Raw, Texon worked with the denim supplier and Eco Intelligent Growth (EIG), a Barcelona-based circular economy consultancy, to ensure that its Texon Vogue Sahara production processes conformed to Cradle to Cradle’s Gold Material Health standards, reached also thanks to one change to its manufacturing process - switching to a chlorine-free bleaching solution. Texon Vogue is available in a range of colors and finishes and is used by many of the world’s biggest brands. Texon Vogue Sahara is a beige material, certified for jacron applications including jeans labels, easy to stitch onto denim garments, can also withstand stone washing, enzyme washing and dry-cleaning. Hawai Italia: revolution in the field of eyelets
Hawai Italia: rivoluzione nel campo degli occhielli
A COMPANY SPECIALIZED IN THE PRODUCTION OF FOOTWEAR ACCESSORIES, HAWAI ITALIA IS A POINT OF REFERENCE FOR THE SECTOR THANKS TO ITS CONSTANT DEVELOPMENT OF INNOVATIVE PRODUCTS. THE MOST RECENT IS AN EYELET MADE FROM PLASTIC THAT OPTIMIZES PRODUCTION AND ALLOWS THE DESIGN TO BE PERSONALIZED
AZIENDA SPECIALIZZATA NELLA PRODUZIONE DI ACCESSORI PER LA CALZATURA, HAWAI ITALIA È UN PUNTO DI RIFERIMENTO PER IL SETTORE GRAZIE AL COSTANTE SVILUPPO DI INNOVAZIONI. L’ULTIMA, È UN OCCHIELLO IN MATERIALE PLASTICO CHE OTTIMIZZA LA PRODUZIONE E PERMETTE DI PERSONALIZZARE IL DESIGN.
Renowned for its orientation towards innovation, over time, Hawai Italia has presented numerous items fruit of revolutionary research, including speed laces, rivets and buckles in Top Light, Pro AirWaterblock, and 200 Reef, the best composite toecap for high performance applications… One of its most interesting product, the exclusive and innovative composite eyelet. Thanks to the use of a special material combined with the technologies implemented by Hawai Italia, the new eyelet can be cold set with the new automatic pre-drilling machines, without using washers (as in the past). In terms of productivity, the advantages offered up by this system of application are noteworthy: rapid mounting, subsequent savings in costs, and precision in production. If all this is joined by the exclusive advantages of composite material, including lightness and the possibility of personalizing the colour and design, then an almost revolutionary product is the result.

Up until today, it was believed impossible to apply plastic eyelets using automatic machines that pre-drill: Hawai Italia took on this challenge and, by making the most of its vocation for innovation and expertise in materials and technologies, succeeded in developing a brand new ground-breaking product for the market. The first step taken by Hawai Italia was that of developing a plastic material capable of resisting the high temperatures of production, while also guaranteeing complete reliability at the same time. The second step was that of implementing a technology capable of making the most of it. Also, in this case, the experience of Hawai Italia in developing innovative productive processes, especially for the processing of plastic materials, made the difference.

Expo Riva Schuh, anticipated to December VOLUME FOOTWEAR MEETS IN RIVA DEL GARDA FROM 11 TO 14 DECEMBER 2020, ANTICIPATING THE OPENING OF THE AW2021-22 SEASON BY ONE MONTH After having skipped the June edition due to the Covid pandemic, Expo Riva Schuh for its 94th edition plays ahead of the usual calendar and is placed from 11 to 14 December 2020, ready to collect opportunities in order to relaunch the volume footwear sector. The choice of the new dates was carefully considered by the organisers of Riva del Garda Fierecongressi taking into account the different needs of the international parterre of the event which compares the main players of the world production with buyers from all over the world. The anticipation will thus allow operators to take advantage of this month to work on the Autumn-Winter 2021-2022 season and on the refreshments of the summer season. Once again, Expo Riva Schuh will be presented in December at the same time as Gardabags, the event dedicated to bags and volume accessories which has reached its 5th edition, thus reconfirming the total look proposal that has been welcomed

by the market since its debut. The formula of the “widespread fair” was also reconfirmed, involving a dozen of selected locations in Riva del Garda next to the Palafiere. Alongside men’s, women’s and sports footwear, Expo Riva Schuh will also place particular emphasis on children’s footwear, with a wide selection of manufacturers and licensees from Italy, Germany, Spain, Brazil, China ... just to name a few of the companies’ nationalities in the sector present at the fair. Waiting for the event, the organisers of Expo Riva Schuh have promoted an interesting cycle of Live Talks under the hashtag PLAYfashion thanks to which the fair intends to actively contribute to the restart of the fashion system and, in particular, of the accessories’ volume footwear sector. A way to keep the relationship between all its interlocutors alive, listen to the market and encourage useful information, looking forward to the moment of the physical show.

Export at the time of CRV
Esportare ai tempi del CRV
Exports blocked by CRV in 2020 will drop by 13.9% according to Istat: a figure to be taken with caution, given that even the WTO estimates the fall in international trade within a very wide range between -12% and -35%. It appears certain, though, that there will be no “V” recovery as in the post Sars outbreak, but given “the de-synchronous duration on the various markets, the consistent accumulation of stocks in global supply chains and the severity of the impact on the production fabric”, it is believed that it will be “U” asymmetric, with a faster drop and slower recovery. In any case, for Italian exports, the ICE report predicts that it will take two years to return to the trading volumes of 2019, net of the risks of a new contagion wave. In the same period, exports of the fashion sector will grow by 11.9%. From a geographical point of view, on the other hand, the aggregate of Emerging Asia, China in the lead, will record the greatest growth. While growth estimates in imports in the top twenty export markets indicate the Czech Republic and Romania, China, Poland and Russia, Turkey and Hong Kong, with percentages between + 17% and + 22%.
Structural weaknesses of Italian export
Fattori di criticità strutturale dell’export italiano
Where could exports grow? The essays by the Masi Foundation, Bocconi University and Milan Polytechnic prepared with the ICE research office focus on three themes. The south, which has a ratio of exported goods to GDP of just 13.1% against 26.1% of the North, has an unexpressed potential of 17 billion euro, from agrifood to chemicals. E-commerce: a global market of 25.6 trillion dollars that grows at a rate of + 9% per year, where Italy still plays a marginal role and where it can grow, also thanks to agreements made by ICE with the main operators in the world. Finally, innovation and finance, start ups and venture capital, as a driving force for export growth.
Dove potrebbe crescere l’export? Infine, innovazione e finanza, start up e venture capital, come volano di crescita dell’export.
Pact for Export
The role of the Pact for Export signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation with 7 other Ministers and representatives of the Italian business world was reaffirmed too on the occasion of the ICE Report presentation. Divided into six pillars: communication, promotion, training, e-commerce, trade fair system and subsidised financing and funded with 1 billion and 366 million euro, it provides a wide range of tools for internationalisation. ICE takes an active part in each of the six areas, participating in the Nation branding campaign, in the training of Digital Temporary Managers, with 59 agreements in 28 countries by 2021 with the main e-commerce operators and the promotion of large-scale distribution in O2O mode (off to online), Fiera Smart 365, reimbursement for the cancelled trade fairs in 2020 and the free trade fair form for the participation in those that will be held in 2021.

INTERVIEW
Let’s talk about the Erasmus + Blueprint S4TCLF industries 2030 project and the webinar of last July entitled “Modernising VET for Economic Recovery and Innovation in Europe’s Fashion Industry Regions and Clusters”: what were the main goals you wanted to achieve and what have been the results? The webinar was organised under the Erasmus+ Blueprint “Skills4Smart TCLF 2030” (www.s4tclfblueprint. eu) which aims to preserve European Textile, Clothing, Leather and Footwear (TCLF) companies’ leading position by supporting their modernisation and competitiveness through the implementation of a comprehensive upskilling and reskilling strategy. Three main activities make up the core of this strategy: (1) bring TCLF education curricula up-to-date for 8 of the most-needed occupations of the sectors, to make them attractive to students and help TCLF companies find the qualified professionals they need, (2) build strong relationships between Vocational Education and Training (VET) providers across Europe to promote excellence and modern VET systems, and (3) encourage regional governments to support TCLF VET education within their borders through the establishment of a Network of European Regions with high TCLF presence. The webinar was the first step towards this Network of Regions pledging support to modern TCLF VET systems. (https://www.s4tclfblueprint.eu/ - Twitter @Skills4TCLF!) What other European projects of interest are you working on? The Success Road, Interreg Europe - Enhance the Competitiveness and Sustainability of European SMEs through succession procedures and models. There are more than 14 million family businesses in the EU generating around 50% of the EU GDP and offering more than 60 million jobs in the private sector. When the moment comes for the head of a small business to retire, the difficulties might begin. Transfers of ownership are a risky procedure for SMEs: sadly, only 30% of small businesses survive the transition to the second generation of owners. This project is designed to support SMEs family businesses to overcome their specific challenges related to managing succession, both inside the family and selling to third parties. The consortium, which brings together industry representatives and national/regional authorities from Greece, Belgium, Lithuania, Poland, and Spain, aims at helping policy makers implement these policies and new succession measures in their operational programmes that will ultimately contribute to the overall economic growth. (www.interregeurope.eu/successroad) SciLED Erasmus+ project “Footwear in the 21st century: New skills for the design of drastically improved comfort, sustainable, fashion-oriented and scientifically-led footwear products” In order to reach the expectations of today’s consumer, companies have to provide a personalised, differentiated, comfortable and fashionable footwear product, while working sustainably, generating minimum waste, and contributing to fight climate change, especially in the post Covid Era. This requires the footwear industry to adapt, to keep up

The Success Road, Interreg Europe - Enhance the Competitiveness and Sustainability of European SMEs through succession procedures and models.

MAN Both the more traditional and the more modern proposals try to include informal details in the models, which recall the casual. Sneakers are always very curious and full of news. Low ankle boots are still enjoying some success.

Very black, very white, but above all very white/black tones characterise sneakers for the coming winter, playing around with contrasts, often emphasised by the use of different materials, while outsoles are boxed or with a chunky construction.
