Leonardo da Vinci in leather VICENZA PELLI MADE THE MATERIAL ON WHICH FRANCESCO LA ROSA REPRODUCED A LIFE-SIZED IMAGE OF THE “LAST SUPPER.” A MEMORABLE WORK THAT CELEBRATES ITALIAN ARTISTIC AND HANDCRAFTED GENIUS. Vicenza Pelli made the material on which Francesco La Rosa reproduced a lifesized image of the ‘Last Supper’. A memorable work that celebrates Italian artistic and handcrafted genius.

Francesco La Rosa is an Italian contemporary artist who uses unusual materials and tools to create his artworks. He specialises in micro-engraving on large leather products using scalpels and knives.

He is particularly fascinated with photorealistic portraits and drawings which he creates in black and white, because he loves the beauty of shadows and lights that characterise the picture.

Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper reproduced on leather in its original size (8.8x4.6 meters) is his latest masterpiece. The project, supported by the film producer Oscar Generale, with whom he had already created a line of ‘engraved’ leather bags for the Aranyani brand, wants to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo Da Vinci.

The video on the creation of the work and the work itself will give life to a travelling exhibition that will take Italian artistic genius around the world. As well as Italian handcrafted genius, since the leather used as a basis for the work was provided

by Vicenza Pelli, La Rosa’s partner for each of his creations. The famous Veneto-based tannery supplied a 1.4-1.6-inch thick bovine crust with mixed vegetable tanning: large, high quality leather to allow the artist to reproduce Leonardo’s famous painting.

Francesco La Rosa, artista italiano contemporaneo che utilizza materiali e strumenti insoliti per creare le proprie opere, è specializzato nella micro-incisione su grandi opere in pelle, realizzate con bisturi e coltelli. È particolarmente affascinato dai ritratti e dai disegni foto-realistici che realizza rigorosamente in bianco e nero, perché ama la bellezza delle ombre e delle luci che caratterizzano l'immagine.

L’Ultima Cena di Leonardo da Vinci riprodotta su pelle e nella sua dimensione originale (8,8x4,6 metri) rappresenta la sua ultima fatica. Il progetto, propiziato dalla collaborazione con il produttore cinematografico Oscar Generale, con cui già aveva realizzato una linea di borse in pelle ‘intagliate’ per il brand Aranyani, vuole celebrare l’anniversario del 500esimo anno della morte di Leonardo Da Vinci.

Il video sulla realizzazione dell’opera e l’opera stessa daranno vita a una mostra itinerante in grado di portare in giro per il mondo il genio artistico italiano. Nonché il genio artigianale italiano, visto che la pelle utilizzata come base per l’opera è fornita da Vicenza Pelli, partner di La Rosa per ogni opera da lui creata. È un crust bovetto con concia misto vegetale di spessore 1,4-1,6” quella fornita dalla nota conceria veneta: pellami ampi e di altissima qualità per permettere all’artista di riprodurre il famoso dipinto Leonardesco.

The TPU films that ennoble soles and not only FOR MORE THAN 60 YEARS INDUSTRIA CHIMICA MEDITERRANEA HAS BEEN FOCUSSING ON RENEWAL AND GROWTH FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF A RANGE OF PROPOSALS THAT INCLUDE ADHESIVES AND GLUES, MATERIALS FOR TOE PUFFS, COUNTERS AND REINFORCEMENTS FOR LEATHER GOODS, AND TPU FILMS Industria Chimica Mediterranea, founded in 1952, began its activity producing solvent-based adhesives.

That range was enriched over the years with the introduction of water-based adhesives, which are famously recognized as having a lower impact both on the environment and the health of those who use them.

Another significant date is 1992, when a new line destined for the production of fabrics for toe puffs and counters was introduced.

After 30-odd years, another challenge, and another plant. This time the company is focusing on producing thermoplastic polyurethane films.

“Essentially, we produce TPU films with a thickness ranging between 100 and 800 microns”, Roberto Palmieri, the company’s sales manager, tells us. “The films are destined mainly for footwear and especially to ennoble PU soles. The advantages deriving from applying these films are multifarious: higher resistance to sole abrasion, simplifying the production process for sole factories, and the possibility of disguising imperfections that can occur during the expansion of polyurethane.”

The result that is obtained, despite the slight increase in costs stemming from the use of films, is such an improvement that, in a short time, the best-known and most demanding brands did not hesitate to adopt it.

Polyurethane is anyway such an eclectic and high-performing polymer that it is used in a transversal way in various production processes: “In the last few years – says Roberto Palmieri – we have received the most varied requests for collaboration: from furniture to biomedical, from boats to leather goods.”

The company’s strategy is therefore that of broadening its field of action expanding in sectors in which it is not currently active.

“By the end of the year, a new finishing and printing line will be launched which will enable us to further improve the quality of our products, as well as enabling us to explore those markets mentioned above. Our core business remains however footwear, and we expect that the application of TPU films will involve not only sneakers but also running shoes. Indeed, research conducted by Brooks indicates how the application of this expedient also improves the rebound of soles.”

I film in TPU che nobilitano le suole e non solo INDUSTRIA CHIMICA MEDITERRANEA DA OLTRE 60 ANNI PUNTA SU RINNOVAMENTO E CRESCITA PER LO SVILUPPO DI UNA GAMMA DI PROPOSTE CHE COMPRENDONO: ADESIVI E COLLANTI, MATERIALI PER PUNTALI, CONTRAFFORTI E RINFORZI PER PELLETTERIA, FILM IN TPU La "Industria Chimica Mediterranea" fondata nel 1952, comincia la sua attività con la produzione di collanti a base solvente.

Tale gamma si è arricchita nel tempo con l'introduzione di adesivi a base d'acqua, ai quali è notoriamente riconosciuto un minor impatto sia sull'ambiente che sulla salute degli utilizzatori.

Altra data significativa è il 1992, anno in cui viene introdotta una nuova linea destinata alla produzione di tessuti per puntali e contrafforti.

Dopo circa 30 anni, altra sfida, e altro impianto. Questa volta l'azienda si cimenta nella produzione di film in Poliuretano termoplastico.

"In sostanza produciamo film in TPU dello spessore minimo di 100 micron fino a un massimo di 800 micron - ci spiega Roberto Palmieri, responsabile vendite dell'azienda - destinati principalmente alla calzatura e soprattutto alla nobilitazione di suole in PU. I vantaggi derivati dall'applicazione di tali film sono molteplici: maggiore resistenza all'abrasione delle suole, semplificazione del processo produttivo per i suolifici, possibilità di mascherare eventuali imperfezioni che possono verificarsi durante l'espansione del poliuretano."

Il risultato che se ne ottiene, nonostante il leggero incremento di costo derivante dall'utilizzo del film, è talmente migliorativo che, in breve tempo, i brand più conosciuti ed esigenti, non hanno esitato ad adottarlo.

Il poliuretano, comunque, è un polimero talmente eclettico e performante, che viene impiegato trasversalmente in svariati processi produttivi: "In questi anni - prosegue Roberto Palmieri - abbiamo ricevuto le più variegate richieste di collaborazione: dall'arredamento al biomedicale, dalla nautica alla pelletteria."

La strategia dell'azienda quindi è quella di allargare il proprio campo d'azione sfociando in settori attualmente non di sua pertinenza.

"Entro fine anno sarà varata una linea di rifinitura e stampa che ci permetterà di migliorare ulteriormente la qualità dei nostri manufatti consentendoci altresì di esplorare quei mercati cui si faceva precedentemente cenno. Il nostro core business, comunque, rimane la calzatura e prevediamo che l'applicazione dei film in TPU si diffonderà non solo nelle sneakers, ma anche nelle scarpe da running. Una ricerca condotta da Brooks - conclude Roberto Palmieri - segnala, infatti, come l'applicazione di tale accorgimento riesca anche a migliorare il rebound delle suole".

50 years have passed since then. The fashion short movie – created from an idea by Fabiana Giacomotti, fashion designer and professor of Fashion Studies at La Sapienza University, directed by filmmaker Andrea Pugiotto and produced by Aria Advertising – is about a backwards journey that leads from the finished shoe to the places where its unique and special soul is born: the sole.

An opportunity to admire the meticulous and delicate phases of the Santoni shoe manufacturing process and the suggestive tannery environments with centuries-old history and tradition. All accompanied by Giuseppe Santoni, managing director of the family business and one of the world’s leading leather experts.

‘A Unique Sole’ also took the form of a capsule collection of two models, for him and her, united by the iconic Santoni double buckle. It is the perfect synthesis of Santoni taste, style and creative inspiration combined with the highest quality of the raw material, signed by Cuoio di Toscana. The quality is guaranteed by slow vegetable tanning, a natural and sustainable method; an ancient process based on the use of tannins made from chestnut, mimosa and quebracho wood.

«A collaboration that will promote the Cuoio di Toscana brand on all social media and we also expect to extend it to other important fashion brands», concludes Antonio Quirici.

Naturella at the CSR and social innovation show THE TECHNICAL SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH CARRIED OUT BY SANTORI PELLAMI S.P.A. PROVIDED THE INTERESTING OPTION TO INSERT FASHION PRODUCTS INTO A NEW VALUE CONTEXT Yarns, fabrics, leathers, padding, buttons, zips, rubber bands... it is estimated that in a finished product the components present may also be more than 20, each with its own environmental footprint. Designing and creating a sustainable fashion garment means evaluating materials based not only on aesthetic and functional characteristics, but also on the basis of sustainability criteria.

This is what Sara Santori, owner and CEO of Santori Pellami S.p.A. did by developing the ‘Naturella’ project (biodegradable, metal free, non toxic leather) that she herself presented during the meeting “Sustainable revolution starts with fashion”, held at the Bocconi University of Milan on the occasion of the “CSR and social innovation” event of last October.

Since 2017 Naturella® has been exploring the territories of sustainability by promoting product and process innovation, to help reduce the environmental impacts of the fashion industry and improve people’s well-being.

In order to obtain an increasingly sustainable leather, Santori has managed to patent an innovative tanning process without using chrome and with a low use of toxic and allergenic heavy metals (such as cadmium, cobalt, nickel and lead), obtaining a high quality and biodegradable leather.

In collaboration with the Politecnic University of Milan, Santori obtained funding from the European Commission under the “SME Instrument”, one of the measures of the European framework programme for research and innovation Horizon 2020, presenting a project for the evaluation of the technical and economic feasibility of a “zero km” business model for the production of Naturella® in Italy and other European countries.

Finally, Santori is a contributor for the ZDHC (Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals) programme and collaborates with the Politecnic University of Milan to research new materials starting from the recovery of production waste.

È ciò che ha fatto Sara Santori, proprietaria e CEO di Santori Pellami S.p.A., sviluppando il progetto ‘Naturella’ (la pelle biodegradabile, metal free, no toxic) che lei stessa ha presentato durante l’incontro “La rivoluzione sostenibile parte dalla moda”, tenutosi presso l’Università Bocconi di Milano in occasione dell’evento “Il salone della CSR e dell’innovazione sociale” di ottobre scorso.

This important collection by Centro Accessori supports the 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the UN to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all by 2030.

Per questo motivo Centro Accessori ha deciso di investire in un progetto ambizioso: «Vogliamo ispirare i nostri partner e dimostrare che la moda può essere sostenibile nelle materie prime e nei prodotti finiti e può essere al centro di un’economia circolare a bassissimo impatto ambientale», spiegano dall’azienda.

Durante l’edizione di ottobre di Lineapelle la società di Monte San Giusto ha presentato la prima collezione completa di prodotti eco-sostenibili per la calzatura e la pelletteria.

La Conscious Collection è ispirata dalla bellezza mozzafiato della natura e dalla nostra responsabilità di preservarla. L’impegno è quello di ricercare prodotti sostenibili, riciclati e riciclabili, a emissione neutra di CO2 o biodegradabili, con l‘impatto ambientale più basso possibile. «Testiamo costantemente materiali innovativi - spiegano - e supportiamo piccole start-up per scoprire nuove possibilità per l‘industria della moda. Il nostro scopo è stabilire nuovi standard nella produzione di accessori e creare nuovi prodotti e tecniche di produzione ecosostenibili».

L’importante novità firmata Centro Accessori sostiene i 17 Sustainable Development Goals stabiliti dall’ONU e da realizzare entro il 2030.

Per sostenere tutti gli aspetti della sostenibilità, l’azienda ha declinato la collezione di prodotti in: - Collezione GREEN, proposta di prodotti eco-friendly per la produzione fashion, con un focus particolare su materie prime naturali, biologiche, sostenibili, atossiche e biodegradabili, che garantiscono un impatto ambientale minimo al termine del loro ciclo di vita.

- Collezione REBORN, materiali riciclati capaci di azzerare la quantità di materiali che andrebbero a riempire le discariche.

PT Leather in Design tells about the quality of Portoguese leather FOR THE SECOND YEAR PORTUGUESE TANNERIES HAVE BEEN PROMOTING THEIR KNOW-HOW WITH A PROJECT DESIGNED BY APIC AND CTIC IN FAVOUR OF INTERNATIONALISATION. It is the fourth collection created within the PT Leather in Design project. Also for the next Fall Winter 2020-21, APIC - Portuguese Leather Association has asked tanneries, its associates, in collaboration with CTIC - Technology Centre of Leather Industries, to develop a collection of leather and furs in line with current trends, to then create a series of footwear and leather goods prototypes to bring and show at the most important trade fairs of the sector.

Specifically, the PT Leather in Design project aims to favour the integrated development of innovative products with high added value from the Portuguese leather sector, proposals in line with the most current market trends, providing an excellent quality level.

Gonçalo Santos, APIC’s general secretary, examines deepens even more the reasons why the project was born: «It stems from the need to make the world of Portuguese tanneries increasingly more and better known, which, over the last decade, have invested heavily in export and in the participation at the most important international fairs. To support this commercial effort, however, it is increasingly necessary to create new items, in line with the trends».

Hence the idea of developing a book that illustrates the most current trends and, in collaboration with CFPIC – Professional Training Centre for the Footwear Industry, a collection of footwear and bags made with the materials proposed by the Portuguese tanneries.

How is this enormous creative work, thus, exploited to promote the sector? «We present the trends in preview to tanners that we gather in Alcanena, the main Portuguese tanning district, but also to chemists and finished product companies. Afterwards we also show them the trends book, leathers and the prototypes developed. Finally, a selection of all this work is exhibited in the main trade

shows, such as Lineapelle, Futurmoda and, soon, also at Premiere Vision Paris».

It is a significant contribution to the promotion on a global scale of ‘Made in Portugal’ leather, of the virtuous union between quality, innovation, creativity and respect for the environment that characterise the sector.

PT Leather in Design racconta la qualità della pelle portoghese PER IL SECONDO ANNO LE CONCERIE DEL PORTOGALLO PROMUOVONO IL PROPRIO SAPER FARE CON UN PROGETTO PENSATO DA APIC E CTIC A FAVORE DELL’INTERNAZIONALIZZAZIONE. È la quarta collezione realizzata all’interno del progetto PT Leather in Design. Anche per il prossimo Autunno Inverno 2020-21, APIC - Associazione Portoghese dell’Industria della Pelle ha chiesto alle concerie, sue associate, di sviluppare, in collaborazione con CTIC - Centro Tecnologico dell’Industria Conciaria, una collezione di pellami e pellicce in linea con i trend del momento, per poi realizzare una serie di prototipi di calzature e pelletteria da portare e mostrare alle più importanti fiere del settore.

Nello specifico il progetto PT Leather in Design si prefigge di favorire lo sviluppo integrato di prodotti innovativi e ad alto valore aggiunto da parte del comparto portoghese della pelle, delle proposte in linea con i più attuali trend del mercato e che offrano un eccellente livello qualitativo.

Gonçalo Santos, segretario generale di APIC, approfondisce ancora meglio i motivi per cui è nato il progetto: «Nasce dall’esigenza di far conoscere sempre di più e sempre meglio il mondo delle concerie portoghesi che, nell’ultimo decennio, hanno investito moltissimo sull’export e sulla partecipazione alle più importanti fiere internazionali. Per supportare questo sforzo commerciale, però, è sempre più necessario realizzare nuovi articoli, in linea con le tendenze».

Da qui l’idea di sviluppare un libro che illustri i trend più attuali e, in collaborazione con CFPIC - Centro per la Formazione Professionale dell’Industria Calzaturiera, una collezione di calzature e borse realizzate con i materiali proposti dalle concerie portoghesi.

Questo enorme lavoro creativo come viene sfruttato, quindi, per promuovere il comparto? «Presentiamo le tendenze in anteprima ai conciatori che

raduniamo ad Alcanena, il principale distretto conciario portoghese, ma anche ai chimici e alle aziende di prodotto finito. In seguito mostriamo loro anche il libro tendenze, i pellami e i prototipi sviluppati. Infine, una selezione di tutto questo lavoro viene esposta nelle principali fiere di settore, come Lineapelle, Futurmoda e, prossimamente, anche a Premiere Vision Parigi».

Un contributo notevole alla promozione su scala globale della pelle ‘made in Portugal’, del connubio virtuoso fra qualità, innovazione, creatività e rispetto dell’ambiente che caratterizzano il settore.

TECNOGI S.p.A., founded by the Giardini family in 1979, leader in the production of technical textiles for footwear, formerly a minority shareholder of SIPOL SpA, has completed the extraordinary transaction for the acquisition of the majority of the share capital.

TECNOGI and SIPOL - the latter active in the formulation and polymerisation of co-polyesters and co-polyamides intended for the market of GIANNI ZANETTI, TECNOGI CEO hot melt adhesives, high-performance technopolymers and biopolymers - had already embarked on a path of close commercial collaboration by exploiting synergies of technological know-how and positioning on the world footwear market.

With the acquisition, the company based in Borgolavezzaro, in the year of the fortieth anniversary since its establishment, continues the strategic growth project for adjacent sectors, extending its activity also in the field of biodegradable polymers, technopolymers, automotive, packaging and textiles implementing, in this last segment, the historic partnership with the Swiss company CEPAT AG based in Chur, owner of the CEPATEX brand.

Gianni Zanetti, CEO of TECNOGI, commented the operation as follows: “There is a great satisfaction shared between property and management for the conclusion of this operation, strongly desired and pursued with great determination, which represents an extraordinary growth opportunity for the Group in the year of the fortieth anniversary since its establishment”.

News keep coming from Lenzing which, after presenting the revolutionary TENCEL™ fibre - a completely sustainable solution that makes it possible to make a shoe using only its fibres derived from wood cellulose, now launches TENCEL™ x REFIBRA™.

It is the result of two innovative solutions involving wood and cotton. The wood pulp used in TENCEL™ Lyocell is a renewable raw material deriving from sustainably managed forests. To which is added cotton waste or recycled cotton that allows to lighten the waste flow, as well as to replace part of the necessary wood pulp, thus reducing the amount of virgin raw materials used.

REFIBRA™ is produced in a closed cycle system; the capture rate of the solvents used to work wood and cotton fibres is 99.7%, which are reused over and over again; the only elements produced by the cycle are REFIBRA and water, whose use is reduced by 95% compared to the standard production of cotton fabrics; it does not pollute air, nor soil, nor water.

Incredible numbers that can considerably reduce the fashion impact on the environment. Consider that every year in the world 48 million tons of fabrics become waste and 73% of this amount of material ends up in landfills or incinerated. Without considering what happens in the production phase of these same fabrics: an enormous consumption of water and waste resulting from the cutting phase, ranging from 10 to 30% of the initial piece of fabric, that gets thrown away.

The aim of REFIBRA™ is precisely that of reusing that production waste keeping the fabrics already in circulation as long as possible.

Numeri incredibili che possono ridurre in modo considerevole l’impatto della moda sull’ambiente. Si pensi che in tutto il mondo, ogni anno, 48 milioni di tonnellate di tessuti diventano rifiuti e il 73% di questa mole di materiale finisce in discarica o incenerito. Senza considerare cosa accade in fase di produzione di questi stessi tessuti: il consumo enorme di acqua e lo spreco degli scarti generati in fase di taglio, che vanno dal 10 al 30% della pezza di tessuto iniziale.

Lo scopo di REFIBRA™ è proprio quello di riutilizzare quegli scarti di produzione e mantenere in circolazione i tessuti già realizzati il più a lungo possibile.

«We have been seeking the right solution intensely for several years. We tested various rhubarb genotypes to verify their suitability, optimising their cultivation needs and developing an innovative tannin extract», says the company.

Today’s result is a vegetable-tanned leather that meets the highest standards of quality, sustainability and versatility.

A production cycle entirely made in Germany, from the cultivation of rhubarb biomass to the extraction of tannins, from the origin of raw hides to the tanning and finishing process.

Thanks to its excellent breathability, anallergicity, particularly pleasant touch and the comfort that comes with it, Rhabarberleder is ideal for fashion and accessory collections.

• La ricerca di un'alternativa eco-compatibile alla convenzionale concia al cromo è stata il punto di partenza per lo sviluppo del progetto sostenibile Rhabarberleder (pelle conciata al rabarbaro).

«Per diversi anni abbiamo cercato intensamente la soluzione. Abbiamo testato vari genotipi di rabarbaro per verificarne l’idoneità, ottimizzato le loro esigenze di coltivazione e quindi sviluppato un innovativo estratto di tannino», raccontano dall’azienda.

Un ciclo produttivo interamente realizzato in Germania, dalla coltivazione di biomassa di rabarbaro all’estrazione dei tannini, dall’origine delle pelli grezze alla concia e alla finitura.

B-CHEM opened its new production plant dedicated to footwear

GPS innovates galvanisation

B-CHEM s.r.l., a highly advanced chemical company, was founded in the 1960s starting its activity in a sector very far from fashion: the production of floor polishing machines and subsequently the production of abrasive stones.

In the 1990s, the range was extended with the addition of epoxy systems and polyester glues for the marble-stone-granite sector, of which B-CHEM is the largest Italian producer with a daily production of almost 30 tons. In 2000 were added putties for car bodies, while in 2017 was launched a project for the opening of a new plant, which took place this year in July, related to the production of polychloroprene and polyurethane adhesive, natural rubber and SBS, destined to general purposes, for upholstered furniture, and in particular for the footwear industry.

Currently B-CHEM exports over 98% of its total production to over 40 countries worldwide.

Galvanica GPS is an Italian company that specializes in the surface coating of pure metals and alloys. The company, located in the Fermo area, managed to amaze the sector once again during the latest edition of Lineapelle by presenting some extremely interesting novelties.

Among them is a type of galvanization for aluminium, which is very difficult to achieve, and which, above all, allows various inserts to be welded together. A procedure that enables designers to expand their creativity in the creation of very original chains. Among other things, those chains differ from the classic brass and iron chains thanks to their extreme lightness.

Another interesting innovation is a specific type of paint that is perfect for eyelets because it is very flexible and therefore does not crack during the assembly of the same eyelets.

Finally, holographic coatings that, although they are usually obtained only on a black background, GPS is able to carry out on galvanization, and therefore over gold or a gunmetal effect.

• B-CHEM S.r.l., è un’azienda chimica altamente avanzata, fondata negli anni ’60 che ha iniziato l’attività in un settore molto lontano dalla moda: la produzione di macchine lucidatrici per pavimenti e successivamente la produzione di pietre abrasive.

Negli anni ’90, si amplia la gamma con l’aggiunta di sistemi epossidici e di mastice poliestere per il settore marmo-pietra-granito, di cui, con una produzione giornaliera di quasi 30 tonnellate, B-CHEM risulta il più grande produttore italiano. Nel 2000 si aggiungono gli stucchi per carrozzeria, fino a che, nel 2017, è stato avviato il progetto per l’apertura, avvenuta nel luglio di quest’anno, di un nuovo stabilimento per la produzione di adesivi in policloroprene, poliuretano, gomma naturale e SBS, destinati a scopi generali, ai mobili imbottiti, e in particolare all’industria calzaturiera.

Attualmente B-CHEM esporta oltre il 98% della sua produzione totale in oltre 40 Paesi nel mondo.

• Galvanica GPS è un’azienda italiana specializzata nel rivestimento superficiale di metalli puri e leghe.

L’azienda del fermano è riuscita a stupire ancora una volta il settore durante la scorsa edizione di Lineapelle presentando alcune novità.

Tra queste una galvanica su alluminio, molto difficile da ottenere, e che, soprattutto, consente la saldatura fra loro di vari inserti. Un procedimento che permettere ai designer di espandere la loro creatività nella realizzazione di catene molto originali ed estremamente leggere. Altra innovazione è la particolare tipologia di vernice, perfetta per gli occhielli in quanto molto flessibile e che, perciò, non spacca durante il montaggio degli occhielli stessi.

Infine, le verniciature olografiche che, se di solito si ottengono solo su fondo nero, GPS è in grado di proporre anche su galvanica, e quindi anche al di sopra di ori o di un effetto canna di fucile.

The construction works of Desma’s “Factory of the future” are proceeding according to plan: the supporting structure has been completed only four months after the site’s inauguration ceremony.

“Everything is proceeding as planned, both in terms of time and costs”, said DESMAS’s CEO Klaus Freese, who adds: “We started dealing with internal works and are planning to move into the new building by the end of summer 2020”.

The ‘Factory of the future’ consists of a combined production complex (12,000 square meters) and three floors of offices (4500 square meters).

The warehouse and the new painting department will be located in the production building, where also the preliminary and final assembly will take place.

It will also host the showroom and the Innovation Centre where the latest technological developments will be tested and presented.

Bring back a sneaker to its original beauty is now easy thanks to Clean2Go, a new patented product for keeping your shoes clean without having to scrub the surfaces or use harmful chemical substances. Developed by the research team of T. Oesterwinter GmbH & Co. KG in Bielefeld (Germany), Clean2Go is a liquid that does not work on a chemical base, but rather on a physical one, and it is completely sustainable. “The application of the liquid generates a micro earthquake – explains Matthias Oesterwinter, technical manager of the company – bubbles of 200 nanometres move at a rate of up to 8000 times a second, going beneath the dirt after being sprayed on and then moving upwards. Accessories too are watched by investment funds Eurmoda, a Veneto-based company with over 30 million in revenues, leader of a pool of highly integrated companies specialising in the development and creation of accessories for customised and tailor made luxury (for leather goods, footwear and eyewear), was acquired by Mandarin Capital Partners III. The aim of the fund is to create an Italian pole of suppliers for luxury companies.

“It is our first acquisition in the fashion sector and it will not be the last one”, explained Andrea Tuccio, partner of Mandarin Capital Partners III, to Il Sole-24Ore. “The idea is to invest in complementary small and medium-sized enterprises, which often work with big brands, making them grow nationally and internationally, also focusing on new technologies”.

The procedure led to the creation of the holding company Margot (headed by Eurmoda), of which 70% will be held by the fund and 30% by Marco Vecellio, CEO of Eurmoda, who will lead the Newco.

MICAM stable with 44,076 visitors THE FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF MICAM ENDS ON A SUCCESSFUL NOTE, RECORDING A SLIGHT RISE IN VISITORS (+0.94%) OF A DECIDEDLY INTERNATIONAL SCOPE. 60% of the 44,076 visitors arrived from abroad, up +2% over the slight drop recorded by Italian visitors (-0.55%). The nations with the best performances were China and Hong Kong, while Switzerland recorded a +10% rise in visitors, and traditional markets followed a trend of stability. As predicted on the eve of the event, the markets of Russia (down by -12.85%) and Ukraine (down by -8.68%) were instead characterised by difficulty.

For Siro Badon, President of Assocalzaturifici, it was the first edition of MICAM under his management: “Trade fairs continue to represent a complete tool for sector business and, in light of the results, we are proud of the positive outcome of this edition that confirms MICAM as the most important event worldwide in this sector. Our association – continues Badon – will continue to work for the internationalisation of companies, using all the strategies possible for bringing a quality product together with buyers who are capable of appreciating it, with a special focus in particular on the markets of Russia and Ukraine, which have dropped-off, as already predicted and seen in the data released prior to the fair’s start”.

Creating great interest among visitors were the 2000-plus collections for SS2020 presented by 1,303 exhibitors, with particular interest shown in those that were Made in Italy, as an expression of our territory’s culture, with its high quality and extremely creative content.

For its fiftieth anniversary, MICAM celebrated with the “It’s Shoe Time” exhibition held in the Fashion Square, which traced the history of footwear and costume from the Seventies to today. After having filled industry operators at the fair with wonder, the exhibition’s next stopover will be at MUDEC in Milan from 19 to 22 September.

Always for its anniversary, MICAM decided to give itself a new space entirely dedicated to sporty and outdoor footwear, the Players District, located in Hall 7, which was set up as a genuine stage for street culture and sneakers, with enlivenment provided by a series of events and initiatives that involved a numerous public.

The next edition of MICAM will be held from 16 to 19 February for the presentation of the FW 2020-21 collections.

Per il suo cinquantesimo anniversario MICAM ha festeggiato con una mostra “It’s Shoe Time” presso la Fashion Square che ha messo in mostra la storia della calzatura e del costume dagli anni Settanta ad oggi. Dopo aver meravigliato gli

operatori del settore in fiera, la mostra passerà al MUDEC di Milano dal 19 al 22 settembre.

Sempre in occasione dell’anniversario, MICAM si è regalato un nuovo spazio dedicato alla calzatura sportiva e outdoor, Players District. Allestito presso la hall 7, si è configurato come un vero e proprio palcoscenico per la cultura street e la sneaker animato da una serie di eventi e iniziative che hanno coinvolto un largo pubblico.

La prossima edizione di MICAM si terrà dal 16 al 19 febbraio per la presentazione delle collezioni AI 2020-21.

Lineapelle is essential THE TRADE FAIR APPOINTMENT ORGANISED BY UNIC AND DEDICATED TO MATERIALS HAS BEEN CONFIRMED AS A MUST. THE DATES OF THE EVENT IN 2020 HAVE BEEN ANTICIPATED. The last edition of the trade fair event, Lineapelle 97, that the global fashion and luxury supply chain could not miss, took place at Milan Rho Fair from 2 to 4 October, which officially opened the next winter season (FW2020-21).

The international hub of the event has been confirmed, which in fact hosted as many as 1,271 exhibitors from 46 countries, and welcomed over 19,000 unique visitors, representatives of about 10,500 companies, coming from 107 countries.

The comment of the organisers reflects on the evolution of the sector: «These data, substantially in line with the previous edition (February 2019), and the decline in foreign visitor companies, balanced by the growth of national presence, confirms Italy as the international reference manufacturing hub for brands, fashion brands and start-ups».

Lineapelle has confirmed its mirror function in which the market reflects all its criticalities, placing itself as the ideal space for networking in the context of an economic complicated phase, to say the least. A complexity demonstrated by the uncertainty highlighted by some countries (in particular European countries: Spain, Great Britain, Portugal and Germany), but at the same time mitigated by the positive performances of the United States and China.

«Exhibitors’ comments – keep on saying organisers – suggest that, even today, one can look to the future with confidence, provided one has clear ideas, defined programs and a very concrete vision. A business realism based on an intense and certified sustainable matrix».

In a world in which the fashion industry addresses its values increasingly towards the green economy, at Lineapelle the supply chain has already proven to be at the forefront in terms of sustainability.

The dates of the next Lineapelle edition, number 98, have been anticipated and will be staged at Milan Rho Fair in 2020, from 19 to 21 February, even overlapping Micam and Mipel for one day.

Si è confermato il baricentro internazionale della manifestazione che, infatti, ha ospitato ben 1.271 espositori, provenienti da 46 Paesi, e accolto oltre 19.000 visitatori unici, rappresentanti di circa 10.500 aziende, in arrivo da 107 Paesi.

Il commento degli organizzatori riflette sull’evoluzione del settore: «Questi dati, in sostanziale continuità rispetto all’ultima edizione (febbraio 2019), e il calo delle aziende visitatrici straniere, bilanciato dalla crescita delle presenza nazionali, conferma l’Italia hub manifatturiero di riferimento internazionale per brand, griffe e start up».

Una complessità dimostrata dall’incertezza evidenziata da alcuni Paesi (in particolare europei: Spagna, Gran Bretagna, Portogallo e Germania), ma allo stesso tempo mitigata dalle positive performance di Stati Uniti e Cina.

«I commenti degli espositori del salone - proseguono gli organizzatori - suggeriscono che, anche oggi, si può guardare con fiducia al futuro, purché si abbiano idee chiare, programmi definiti e una vision molto concreta. Un realismo d’impresa basato su un’intensa e certificata matrice sostenibile».

In un mondo nel quale l’industria della moda si indirizza sempre più verso i valori della green economy, a Lineapelle la filiera ha dimostrato di essere già all’avanguardia sotto il profilo della sostenibilità.

Molto anticipate le date della prossima edizione di Lineapelle, la numero 98, che andrà in scena a Fieramilano Rho nel 2020, dal 19 al 21 febbraio, addirittura sovrapponendosi per un giorno a Micam e Mipel.

PERRINE ARDOUIN, DIRECTOR OF APLF LTD

For over twenty years Perrine Ardouin has dealt with leather and leather products fairs held in Hong Kong and Shanghai; together with director Michael Duck, she is responsible for the development of what have become real international platforms for business promotion of our sectors. An observer who is sensitive and attentive to the evolution of the market but also of fashion and society, whom we have asked to help us interpret the delicate socio-political situation in Hong Kong, where street protests have been underway for months.

The chat then moves on to the

latest news of the next edition where APLF will present itself with a completely new layout. Great changes have been announced for next year’s edition, starting from the date, which has been moved forward by two weeks, exactly from 31 March to 2 April 2020. But above all for the complete reorganisation of the exhibition spaces which envisage a sort of revolution: from next year the leather fair will in fact move from the current level 1 of the exhibition centre to level 3 where it will have a larger exhibition area, while the areas dedicated to Materials+, Fashion Access and the Cashmere World will be relocated to level 1 where to date the leather fair has been taking place.

The protests in Hong Kong do not seem destined to stop spontaneously. Are you worried about what’s happening, fear repercussions on the business?

“In reality, these protests are much more peaceful than they appear on television. They alternate between violent incidents and peaceful marches and assemblies in shopping malls where people sing their new hymn, ‘Glory to Hong Kong’. Those activities are held mostly over the week end and at night… but during week days the city is back to normal, business as usual and you would never imagine what took place the night before. Incidents have been taking place in very specific locations away from our Convention & Exhibition Centre in Wanchai. My colleagues who have been running trade shows earlier this month had implemented contingency plans to ensure alternative transportation which would allow buyers and exhibitors to reach the exhibition centre should the subway be affected by strikes. Overall the trade shows took place as usual and business on site was better than expected. APLF is ranked as the number 1 leather trade fair in the world, making it a must attend event, still 6 month away from now”.

Let’s get to APLF news. The next edition will see a complete overturning of the exhibition offer between the first and third level of the exhibition centre. How does the space allocation proceed?

“Very well, the leather pavilion is already fully booked also because many exhibitors have booked larger stands than in the past. The new configuration of the spaces on level 3 will allow us to set up a broader and more orderly leather fair in terms of merchandise, with clearly delimited sections that will bring together chemists, suppliers of machines, raw hides and finished leathers, in order to facilitate the visit of the buyers. Previously you could see the suppliers of raw hides near the tanneries, but this will not happen again. Now the precise offer will be structured, so much that some countries like Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Turkey will have two separate pavillions, one that brings together suppliers of machines or raw hides and one of finished leathers. For the next edition we also have an important new entry: Australia (which so far had a pavilion only at ACLE Shanghai), which we had to place on the Concourse (the entrance corridor)”.

What are the news about Fashion Access?

“In addition to moving to level 1 of the exhibition centre, in March 2020, Fashion Access will offer an area called Sustainable World to bring together companies that produce according to strict Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), an increasingly important topic on the market that will also be possible to discuss deeper in dedicated lounges. We are also developing a new area, called the Licensing Zone, dedicated to companies interested in producing under license for major brands. Another novelty concerns the section dedicated to synthetics and components, which has become a separate trade fair, namely Materials+, also transferred to level 1, it will host a new section dedicated to the technological innovations of this sector”.

The fairs of the finished product do not have an easy life these days...

“The business has changed and even trade shows have to adapt themselves to changes. To be successful, today trade fair organisers must offer many more services, creating increasingly more networking opportunities among operators. On our part we are multiplying our efforts in this direction. We started ten years ago by creating an online platform to ensure that every exhibitor, in addition to the three days of the fair, had 365 days of online visibility, with virtual stands just as useful as physical ones. Now we are going further, organising new opportunities for meetings between producers and buyers, setting up B2B and even B2C events in certain markets. For example, we recently started pop up events in Tokyo, Singapore, Manila and Offenbach where some shoe and bag companies were able to meet new buyers and other pop up special sales opportunities directly in department stores. The participating companies have made a very useful experience to understand what

La chiacchierata si sposta poi sulle ultime novità della prossima edizione quando APLF si presenterà con un layout completamente nuovo. Grandi cambiamenti sono stati annunciati infatti per l’edizione del prossimo anno, a partire dalla data, spostata in avanti di due settimane, esattamente dal 31 marzo al 2 aprile 2020. Ma soprattutto per la completa riorganizzazione degli spazi fieristici che prevedono una sorta di rivoluzione: dal prossimo anno la leather fair si sposterà infatti dall’attuale livello 1 del centro espositivo al livello 3 dove potrà disporre di una maggiore superficie espositiva, mentre le aree dedicate a Materials+, Fashion Access e Cashmere World scenderanno al livello 1 dove finora si trovava la fiera delle pelli.

Le manifestazioni di protesta a Hong Kong non sembrano destinate a fermarsi spontaneamente. Siete preoccupati di quello che sta succedendo, temete ripercussioni sul business?

“In realtà si tratta di proteste molto più pacifiche di quanto possano sembrare viste dalla televisione. Ci sono stati incidenti violenti ma perlopiù si tratta di marce pacifiche e assemblee negli shopping mall dove i manifestanti sono seduti e cantano il loro inno ‘Glory a Hong Kong’. Inoltre, queste cose succedono durante il weekend e di notte… nei giorni feriali la città torna alla normalità e non ci si accorge di nulla.

Gli incidenti sono accaduti in luoghi molto circoscritti e lontano dal nostro Centro espositivo di Wanchai. I miei colleghi che hanno organizzato fiere all’inizio di settembre avevano anche previsto piani di trasporto alternativi per portare in fiera compratori ed espositori in caso di problemi con la metropolitana. In generale, comunque, le fiere si sono svolte come al solito senza inconvenienti e il business è stato giudicato anche migliore delle attese. APLF è classificata la fiera della pelle n.

1 al mondo, che la rende un evento imperdibile, anche a sei mesi di distanza”.

Veniamo alle novità di APLF. La prossima edizione vedrà un completo ribaltamento dell’offerta espositiva tra il primo ed il terzo livello del centro espositivo. Come procede l’assegnazione degli spazi?

“Molto bene, il padiglione della pelle è già fully booked anche perché molti espositori hanno prenotato stand più grandi rispetto al passato. La nuova configurazione degli spazi al livello 3 ci permetterà di allestire una fiera della pelle più ampia e anche più ordinata dal punto di vista dell’offerta merceologica, con sezioni chiaramente delimitate che riuniranno chimici, fornitori di macchine, pelli grezze e pelli finite, in modo da facilitare la visita dei compratori. Prima si potevano vedere i fornitori di pelli grezze vicini alle concerie, ma questo non accadrà più. Ora avremo un’articolazione dell’offerta precisa, tanto che alcuni paesi come Brasile, Francia, Germania, Italia, Spagna e Turchia avranno due collettive separate, una che riunisce i fornitori di pelli grezze e una delle pelli finite. Per la prossima edizione abbiamo anche una new entry importante: l’Australia (che finora aveva un padiglione solo ad ACLE Shanghai), che abbiamo dovuto collocare sul Concourse (il corridoio d’ingresso)”.

Quali sono le novità di Fashion Access?

“Oltre allo spostamento al livello 1 del centro espositivo, a marzo 2020 Fashion Access offrirà un’area che si chiama Sustainable World per riunire le aziende che producono secondo rigorosi criteri di Responsabile Sociale (CSR), un tema sempre più importante sul mercato che sarà possibile approfondire anche in lounges dedicate.

Stiamo sviluppando anche una nuova area, denominata Licensing Zone, dedicata alle imprese interessate a produrre su licenza per grandi marchi. Un’altra novità riguarda la sezione dedicata a sintetici e componenti, che è ormai diventata una fiera a sé stante, precisamente Materials+, anch’essa trasferita al livello 1, che ospiterà una nuova area dedicata alle novità tecnologiche di questo comparto”.

Le fiere del prodotto finito non hanno vita facile di questi tempi…

“Il business è cambiato e anche le fiere devono adeguarsi al cambiamento. Per avere successo, gli organizzatori fieristici oggi devono offrire molti più servizi, creando sempre più occasioni di networking fra gli operatori. Da parte nostra stiamo moltiplicando gli sforzi in questa direzione. Abbiamo iniziato dieci anni

does and does not work in those markets. Soon we will be organsing other events in Bangkok, Singapore and Bali and we also would like to be able to give the opportunity to some brands to participate in local fashion shows, for example in Indonesia”.

Turning to the Shanghai fair that was held in September, it cannot be denied that ACLE is losing points in terms of international exhibition presence...

“There are many explanations related to this trend, all due to the complexity of the Chinese market where a concentration process of tanneries is underway.

But there are also natural causes, such as the fact that many international exhibitors have organised themselves over time relying on local agents who are now exhibiting in the Chinese domestic part of the fair. And then we must consider that in China business is radically changing.

ACLE has always been very focused in the sourcing of tannery supplies, in particular for those tanneries that operate in the automotive and upholstery sectors which do not shine at the moment.

On our part we are making all possible efforts to promote the fair in every possible direction and the 9.4% increase in visitors registered on the first day of the fair gives us reason to believe in our commitment. Before this edition, in July, we organised a roadshow bringing a small group of exhibitors (from Brazil, Italy and the United States) to visit the tanning district of Wuji in Hebei province, an important opportunity to meet local tanners which was considered very interesting. We will continue on this path as well as on the education of designers through workshops and seminars. For us who support the Leather Naturally initiative, promoting the knowledge of the unique characteristics of leather is another fundamental mission”.

Ora stiamo andando oltre, organizzando nuove opportunità di incontro fra produttori e compratori allestendo eventi B2B e anche B2C in certi mercati. Ad esempio, recentemente abbiamo dato vita ad eventi pop up a Tokyo, Singapore, Manila e Offenbach dove alcune aziende di scarpe e borse hanno potuto conoscere nuovi buyers ed in qualche caso fornendo loro occasioni speciali di vendita al pubblico direttamente nei department stores. Le aziende partecipanti hanno fatto un’esperienza utilissima per capire cosa funziona e cosa no su quei mercati. Prossimamente faremo altri eventi a Bangkok, Singapore e Bali e vorremmo anche riuscire a dare l’opportunità ad alcuni brand di partecipare ai fashion shows locali, per esempio in Indonesia”.

Passando alla fiera di Shanghai che si è tenuta a settembre, non si può negare che ACLE stia perdendo punti sul piano della presenza espositiva internazionale...

“Ci sono molte spiegazioni legate a questo trend, tutte riconducibili alla complessità del mercato cinese dove è in corso un processo di concentrazione dell’attività conciaria. Ma ci sono anche cause naturali, come il fatto che molti espositori internazionali nel tempo si sono organizzati affidandosi ad agenti locali che ora espongono nell’area domestica cinese. E poi bisogna considerare che il business sta cambiando radicalmente in Cina. ACLE è sempre stata molto focalizzata nel sourcing delle forniture per concerie e in particolare per quelle concerie che operano nei settori automotive e arredamento che in questo momento non brillano. Da parte nostra stiamo facendo tutti gli sforzi possibili per promuovere la fiera in ogni direzione possibile e l’incremento dei visitatori del 9,4% registrato il primo giorno di fiera ci dà ragione del nostro impegno. Prima di questa edizione, nel mese di luglio, avevamo organizzato un roadshow portando un piccolo gruppo di espositori (da Brasile, Italia e Stati Uniti) a visitare il distretto conciario di Wuji nella provincia di Hebei, un’occasione importante per incontrare conciatori locali che è stata giudicata molto interessante. Continueremo su questa strada così come sull’educazione dei designers attraverso workshop e seminari. Per noi che supportiamo l’iniziativa Leather Naturally quella di promuovere la conoscenza delle caratteristiche uniche della pelle è un’altra mission fondamentale”.

Shanghai confirms the complexity of the market THE 2019 EDITION OF ACLE, A FAIR WITH MANY CONTRASTS, REFLECTED AN INCREASINGLY ARTICULATED AND COMPLEX INTERNATIONAL LEATHER MARKET. The picture emerged with extreme precision during the opening press conference.

This was stated by the fair director himself: since the launch of ACLE Beijing in 1998, 2019 has been one of the most difficult years for the leather industry. There are numerous critical factors: the ongoing trade war between the United States and China that has undermined business trust, the growing demand for red meat has contributed to an excess supply of raw hides around the world, exerting downward pressure on already falling prices due to low demand. Furthermore, synthetic materials continue to win the favour of designers for the creation of footwear and bags. “Even the automotive and furniture sectors, which in the last four years had to compensate for the fall in demand of leather uppers, became less certain, as can be seen from the global sales of cars and the weak results of seat suppliers and car interiors such as Lear and Adient”, said Michael Duck, director of APLF Limited.

A complex situation also for the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA)’s secretary Chen Zhan Gang, who said that “the leather industry in China is relatively stable, but the long-term situation is difficult to predict”.

The complex economic dynamics are also confirmed by the official figures for the sector relating to the first half of 2019. The turnover of Chinese tanneries has in fact fallen by 10.93% compared to the same period of the previous year; at the same time, imports of raw hides and skins fell by 32.7%, those of semi-finished leathers

by 15% and finished leathers by 18.4%. The only comforting factor: the production of leather footwear, again in the first half, rose slightly to 1.88 billion pairs (+0.13%).

Returning to the fair, the 22nd edition of the All China Leather Fair that took place in Shanghai from September 3 to 5 and brought together over one thousand exhibitors spread over eight pavilions, including 16 foreign collective groups. Even if the total numbers of exhibition presences are more or less constant, it is evident that foreign exhibitors are progressively decreasing, particularly in the tanning sector and in countries such as Turkey and Brazil, once protagonists of the event. The supply of chemical products, on the other hand, is still well represented in the sector by multinational corporations, which are strongly present in the local market. Italy was present at ACLE with 45 exhibitors, as always articulated between high-level tanning technology and chemical auxiliaries maintaining their positions with great commitment despite the difficulties of the market. Anyway the fair showed good results as regards attendance with a +9% visitors’ increase in the first day.

Among the side events of the fair, the “Shake-up Conference” which brought together experts in the field to discuss new challenges of the tanning industry and talks organised in the Leather Naturally area focused on the promotion of the leather image among designers and the launch of the international digital campaign have sparked great interest.

Shanghai conferma la complessità del mercato UNA FIERA IN CHIAROSCURO L’EDIZIONE 2019 DI ACLE, CHE HA RISPECCHIATO UN MERCATO DELLA PELLE INTERNAZIONALE SEMPRE PIÙ ARTICOLATO E COMPLESSO. Il quadro è emerso con estrema precisione già nel corso della conferenza stampa di apertura. Lo ha dichiarato lo stesso direttore della fiera: dal lancio di ACLE a Pechino nel 1998, il 2019 è stato uno degli anni più difficili per l’industria della pelle.

Numerosi i fattori critici: la guerra commerciale in corso tra Stati Uniti e Cina che ha minato la fiducia delle imprese, la crescente domanda di carne rossa che ha contribuito all’eccesso di offerta di pelli grezze in tutto il mondo, esercitando una pressione al ribasso sui prezzi già in calo a causa della scarsa domanda.

Inoltre, i materiali sintetici continuano a guadagnare il favore dei designer per la progettazione di calzature e borse. “Anche il settore automobilistico e quello dell’arredamento, che negli ultimi quattro anni avevano compensato la caduta della domanda di tomaia in pelle, si sono fatti meno sicuri, come si può evincere dalle vendite globali di automobili e dai deboli risultati dei fornitori di sedili e interni di automobili come Lear e Adient” ha detto Michael Duck, direttore di APLF Limited.

Una situazione complessa anche per il segretario della China Leather Industry Association (CLIA) Chen Zhan Gang, il quale ha dichiarato che “l’industria della pelle in Cina è relativamente stabile, ma che la situazione a lungo termine è difficile da prevedere“. Le complesse dinamiche economiche trovano conferma anche nei dati ufficiali del settore relativi al primo semestre 2019. Il fatturato delle concerie cinesi è infatti sceso del 10,93% rispetto allo stesso periodo dell’anno precedente; allo stesso tempo le importazioni di pelli grezze sono diminuite del 32,7%, quelle di pelli semifinite del 15% e di pelli finite del 18,4%.

Unico dato confortante: la produzione di calzature in pelle, sempre nel primo semestre, è salita leggermente a 1,88 miliardi di paia (+0,13%). Tornando alla fiera, la 22.a edizione di ACLE che si è svolta a Shanghai dal 3 al 5 settembre, ha riunito oltre un migliaio di espositori distribuiti su otto padiglioni, compresi 16 gruppi collettivi stranieri. Anche se i numeri totali delle presenze espositive sono più o meno costanti, è evidente che gli espositori stranieri stiano progressivamente diminuendo, in particolare nell’ambito conciario e da paesi come Turchia e Brasile, un tempo protagonisti della manifestazione.

L’offerta di prodotti chimici è invece ancora ben rappresentata dalle multinazionali del settore che presidiano con forza il mercato locale. L’Italia era presente ad ACLE con 45 espositori, come sempre articolati fra produttori di tecnologia e ausiliari chimici conciari di alto livello che mantengono con grande impegno le proprie posizioni a dispetto delle difficoltà del mercato. Ad ogni modo la fiera è andata bene sul piano dell’affluenza con un incremento di visitatori del 9% il primo giorno. Tra gli eventi collaterali della fiera, particolare interesse hanno suscitato la “Shake-up Conference” che ha riunito esperti del settore per discutere delle nuove sfide dell’industria conciaria e i talks organizzati nell’area Leather Naturally incentrati sulla promozione dell’immagine della pelle presso i designers e sul lancio della campagna digitale internazionale.

Futurmoda, the 42nd edition has been a success INCREASINGLY MORE INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITORS TOOK PART IN THE ALICANTE EVENT HELD ON LAST 16 AND 17 OCTOBER. The international fair dedicated to leather, footwear components and machinery, organised by the Spanish Association of Footwear Component Manufacturers, focused in its latest edition on the Fall-Winter 2020-21 season.

311 exhibitors (+ 5% compared to the past) took part in the event, representing 429 companies (69% of which were Spanish, while 31% were foreign firms, coming from countries like Italy, Portugal, Brazil, China, Germany, France, Turkey, Holland and India).

The product sector of the items exhibited at the fair saw component companies (of soles, ornaments, heels...) take the leading position with 38%, followed by 29% of tanneries and 18% of textiles. Another 9% of the space was occupied by machinery (the sector that recorded the greatest growth occupying 2.500 m2 exhibition space), 3% by chemical companies and 3% by printing firms.

The success of the event was decreed by the good number of visitors who took part in it: about 6,000 (in line with the previous editions), for the most part (80%) representatives of the national market, while foreign visitors came mainly from Portugal, Italy, France, Morocco, Peru, Mexico, Colombia, Turkey, Austria, United Kingdom and USA. The presence of footwear manufacturers from Colombia who have accepted the invitation of the organisers, in collaboration with IVACE, was remarkable and very satisfying.

In this round too the fair focused on respect for the environment, strengthening its commitment in the Green Planet Area, the space in which a wide range of eco-compatible products is concentrated.

The organisers of Futurmoda are already at work for the next edition of the event which will be held on 11 and 12 March 2020, at the opening of the Spring-Summer 2021 season.

Futurmoda, un successo la 42a edizione SEMPRE PIÙ ESPOSITORI INTERNAZIONALI PARTECIPANO ALL’EVENTO DI ALICANTE TENUTOSI IL IL 16 E 17 OTTOBRE SCORSI. La fiera internazionale dedicata a pelle, componenti e macchinari per calzature, organizzata dall'Associazione spagnola delle aziende produttrici di componenti per calzatura, si è concentrata nella sua ultima edizione sulla stagione autunno-inverno 2020-21.

Hanno preso parte all’evento 311 espositori (+5% rispetto al passato), in rappresentanza di 429 aziende (per il 69% spagnole e per il 31% estere, provenienti da Paesi come Italia, Portogallo, Brasile, Cina, Germania, Francia, Turchia, Olanda e India).

La composizione merceologica dei prodotti esposti in fiera ha visto primeggiare con il 38% le aziende di componenti (suole, ornamenti, tacchi...), seguite da un 29% di concerie e da un 18% di tessutai. Un altro 9% di macchinari (il settore che ha registrato la crescita maggiore occupando 2.500 m2 dello spazio espositivo), un 3% di aziende chimiche e un 3% di stampa.

Il successo della manifestazione è stato decretato dal buon numero di visitatori che vi ha preso parte: circa 6.000 (in linea con le precedenti edizioni), per buona parte (80%) rappresentanti del mercato nazionale, mentre i visitatori stranieri sono giunti in prevalenza da Portogallo, Italia, Francia, Marocco, Perù, Messico, Colombia, Turchia, Austria, Regno Unito e America.

Notevole, e molto soddisfatta, la presenza di produttori di calzature provenienti dalla Colombia, che hanno aderito all’invito degli organizzatori, in collaborazione con IVACE. Anche per questa tornata il focus della fiera si è concentrato sul rispetto dell'ambiente, rafforzando il suo impegno nella Green Planet Area, lo spazio in cui si concentra un'ampia gamma di prodotti eco-compatibili.

Gli organizzatori di Futurmoda sono già al lavoro per la prossima edizione dell’evento che si terrà l’11 e il 12 marzo 2020, in apertura della stagione primavera-estate 2021.

Luxury is our target A TALK WITH CÉLINE BERTRAND, SHOW MANAGER OF PREMIERE VISION LEATHER For about one year Céline Bertrand has been responsible for Premiere Vision Leather (PVL) after having worked for years contributing to the success of the Accessories section (formerly Modamont). We asked her a few questions about current projects and the strategies that the French fairs organization is putting in place to revive the image of the leather fair that has lost some of its glaze over the past few years.

“My task - tells us Bertrand - is to strengthen the offer of Premiere Vision Leather and make it a leading segment of the event. This strategy includes the development of the new areas ‘Smart Creation’ and ‘Manufacturing’: the first one dedicated to sustainable innovation and the second one to selected manufacturers of leather clothes, shoes and bags. This year we will be proposing Smart Creation also in the February edition because we are convinced that sustainability issues are central at the moment and we want to do our part in helping the transition towards the production of eco-friendly collections”.

What is PVL’s vision compared to competing fairs?

“Premiere Vision has a unique peculiarity, that of serving the French and international luxury segment, while other fairs are more general in the offer and in the target.

We have worked a lot on this point also in the recent trade fair promotion: for this edition we have selected and invited 50 collection managers from the best fashion brands, providing them with a whole range of hospitality and hospitality services. A similar promotion also involved 100 major European shoe and bag brands to which we sent free entry passes for the first time”.

The presence of Italian tanneries has decreased in recent editions. Do you have strategies in place to counter this trend?

“We have launched an intense programme of meetings with Italian tanneries that I have personally visited in recent months and that I will continue to meet from now to December to explain everything we are doing to relaunch the event”.

Il lusso è il nostro target INCONTRIAMO CÉLINE BERTRAND, SHOW MANAGER DI PREMIERE VISION LEATHER Da circa un anno Céline Bertrand è responsabile di Premiere Vision Leather (PVL) dopo aver lavorato per anni e contribuito al successo della sezione Accessories (ex Modamont). Le abbiamo rivolto qualche domanda sui progetti in corso e sulle strategie che la manifestazione francese sta mettendo in atto per rilanciare l’immagine della fiera della pelle che nelle ultime edizioni sembra aver perso un po’ di smalto.

“Il mio compito - ci racconta Bertrand - è quello di rafforzare l’offerta di Premiere Vision Leather e farla diventare una sezione di punta della manifestazione. Rientra in questa strategia lo sviluppo delle nuove aree ‘Smart Creation’ e ‘Manufacturing’: la prima dedicata all’innovazione sostenibile e la seconda a selezionati produttori di abiti in pelle, scarpe e borse. Dal prossimo anno proporremo Smart Creation anche nell’edizione di febbraio perché siamo convinti che i temi della sostenibilità siano centrali in questo momento e vogliamo fare la nostra parte nell’aiutare la transizione verso la produzione di collezioni eco-compatibili”.

Qual è la posizione di PVL rispetto alle fiere concorrenti?

“Premiere Vision ha una peculiarità unica, quella di servire il segmento del lusso francese e internazionale, mentre altre fiere sono più generaliste nell’offerta e nel target. Abbiamo lavorato molto su questo punto anche nella recente promozione fieristica: per questa edizione abbiamo selezionato e invitato 50 responsabili di collezione delle migliori griffe di moda, fornendo loro tutta una serie di servizi di ospitalità e accoglienza. Una promozione analoga ha riguardato anche 100 grandi marchi di scarpe e borse europei ai quali abbiamo inviato per la prima volta pass d’ingresso gratuiti”.

La presenza delle concerie italiane è diminuita nelle ultime edizioni. Avete strategie in atto per contrastare questa tendenza?

“Abbiamo avviato un intenso programma di incontri con le concerie italiane che ho visitato personalmente negli ultimi mesi e che continuerò a incontrare da qui a dicembre per spiegare tutto ciò che stiamo facendo per rilanciare la manifestazione”.

I toni e i colori sono quelli tipici dell’autunno, della terra, delle foglie che guadagnano infinite sfumature arancio. HOME OF THE OSTRICH Ostrich breeding in South Africa is one of the top twenty agricultural industries in the country by value, ranking even higher as far as exports are concerned.

The total turnover of the activities related to the ostrich (production and processing, excluding production and commercial activities with added value and tourism) exceeds 2.1 billion rand (about 148 million dollars), while proceeds from exports amount to 1.2 billion rand (about 85 million dollars) per year with 90% of exported leather and meat.

Thanks to the renowned tradition and the excellent natural conditions offered by the country, the South African ostrich industry should be able to maintain its position of world leadership in the coming years.

L’allevamento di struzzi in Sud Africa rappresenta una delle prime venti industrie agricole del Paese per valore, e si posiziona ancor più in alto per quanto concerne le esportazioni.

Il fatturato totale delle attività legate allo struzzo (produzione e trasformazione, escluse le attività produttive e commerciali a valore aggiunto e il turismo) supera i 2,1 miliardi di rand (circa 148 milioni di dollari), mentre i proventi derivanti dalle esportazioni ammontano a 1,2 miliardi di rand (circa 85 milioni di dollari) all’anno con il 90% di pelle e carne esportati.

For each designer the knowledge of materials is of particular importance within the creative process. Knowing how to treat, enhance and make the most of a material is the basis for creating beautiful, functional and prestigious products.

SAOBC knows this well and has therefore been working with ARSUTORIA school for 10 years to promote the qualities and characteristics of ostrich leather at the famous Milanese school of young fashion accessories designers and model makers.

For students, it is an excellent training opportunity to have at their disposal valuable ostrich skins to study and learn about and with a view to developing a small collection of shoes and bags. In fact, in the factory inside the school, they were able to learn how to treat ostrich leather from excellent South African companies, such as Scot and Klein Karoo, and to discover their main features, as well as learning how to use them correctly for a prototype or for any other industrial production.

For those who want to become part of the fashion world, parading on the catwalk is the fulfilment of a dream, as is the first personal exhibition for an artist or to score the decisive goal in the finals for a footballer.

For the Arsutoria School students, who attend the one-year shoe course or the six-month scholarship course, the dream can become reality. As has been happening for some time now thanks to the participation of the school in Fashion Graduate Italia, the event promoted by the Fashion Training System Platform which, every year, brings together Italian Fashion Schools and Academies to present fashion shows, meetings, workshops and exhibitions telling about the present and imagining the future of young fashion designers...

How can this opportunity be accessed? By adhering to the one-year programme for shoes and to the six- months programme for bags ideated by Arsutoria School that provides a deep knowledge of the skills required today by the footwear and leather goods sector. A practical approach that allows students to learn every production aspect - from design to the creation of models, passing through a wide range of technical constructions both for women

Per chi desidera entrare a far parte del mondo della moda, sfilare in passerella è il coronamento di un sogno, come per un artista la prima mostra personale o per un calciatore segnare il gol decisivo in finale.

Per gli studenti dell’Arsutoria School, che frequentano il corso calzature di un anno o il corso borse semestrale, il sogno può divenire realtà. Come accade già da qualche tempo grazie alla partecipazione della scuola alla Fashion Graduate Italia, l’evento promosso da Piattaforma Sistema Formativo Moda che, ogni anno, raduna le Scuole e le Accademie di Moda italiane per presentare sfilate, incontri, workshop e allestimenti che raccontino il presente e immaginino il futuro dei giovani designer della moda…

Come accedere a questa incredibile opportunità? and men, from casual to elegant styles - and which provides the opportunity to deepen the knowledge of materials and to understand the purchase logic.

The end point is the development of a collection. After designing and creating a merchandising plan, students work closely with Italian technicians and artisans in the school’s laboratory, and make their own pairs of shoes or their own bag models.

Thanks to such a wide and articulated training, and to the support of expert product developers like Donato Denti (also a former Arsutoria student), students are able to organise a real collection, ready to be shown on the catwalk, developing not only prototypes and models set by the programme, but drawing and realising their own stylistic ideas.

As happened, for example, to Ernesto Maldonado who had the opportunity to design his own custom graphic for his boot/sandal and see it shown on the elastic tapes specially made by the company Nastrotex.

Il punto d’arrivo è lo sviluppo di una collezione. Dopo aver progettato e creato un piano di merchandising, gli studenti lavorano a stretto contatto con tecnici e artigiani italiani nel laboratorio della scuola, e realizzano le proprie paia di scarpe o i propri modelli di borse.

Grazie a una formazione così ampia e articolata, e al supporto di esperti product developer come Donato Denti (anch'egli ex-allievo Arsutoria), gli studenti sono in grado di strutturare una vera collezione, pronta per sfilare in passerella, sviluppando non solo prototipi e modelli prefissati dal programma, ma disegnando e realizzando le proprie idee stilistiche. Come accaduto, per esempio, a Ernesto Maldonado che ha avuto modo di disegnare una propria grafica personalizzata per il suo stivale/sandalo e vederla riportata sugli elastici appositamente realizzati dall’azienda Nastrotex.
