Sublimations in leather FOR UP TO YOU ANTHOLOGY, LEONARDO TALARICO PLAYS AND WINS WITH HIS ACCESSORIES Minima is the confirmation that beauty, functionality, originality, practicality and innovation can coexist in the same object. "I wanted to give a strong personality to pure forms by attributing a function, an idea of style and a vision": Leonardo Talarico thus declares the intentions of the new collection of accessories designed for Up To You Anthology which rethinks the importance of aesthetics in a series of practical and intuitive leather goods.

Minima was born as a study of form and function, a marked stylistic trait and decisive lines that eliminate the superfluous, from the square to the rhombus, from the half-moon to the circle. With this recent project, the designer wanted to dare: "Minima is a collection of bags that wants to go beyond the canons of traditional accessories. I imagine these bags worn by women with an extremely personal and powerful style".

The elimination of the superfluous represents, in reality, the common thread of all the projects of the young designer. His approach to design is guided by a reduction of excess, able to emphasize details and highlight a very personal sign. The effectiveness of this modus operandi was widely recognized and led him to collaborate with brands such as Cappellini, Tod's, Mercedes Benz, Alcantara and Henrytimi and his projects were presented during the Milan, Paris, Cologne and London, Shanghai, Moscow and New York Design Weeks.

"Ho voluto dare forte personalità a forme pure attribuendo una funzione, un’idea di stile e una visione": Leonardo Talarico così dichiara gli intenti della nuova collezione di accessori disegnata per Up To You Anthology che ripensa l’importanza dell’estetica in una serie di oggetti di pelletteria pratici e intuitivi.

Minima nasce come studio della forma e della funzione, un marcato tratto stilistico e linee decise che eliminano il superfluo, dal quadrato al rombo, dalla mezza-luna al cerchio. Con questo recente progetto, il designer ha voluto osare: "Minima è una collezione di borse che vuole spingersi oltre i canoni dell’accessorio tradizionale. Immagino queste borse indossate da donne con uno stile estremamente personale e powerful".

L’eliminazione del superfluo rappresenta, in realtà, il filo conduttore di tutti i progetti del giovane designer.

Il suo approccio al design è guidato da una riduzione dell’eccesso, in grado di enfatizzare i dettagli e mettere in evidenza un segno molto personale. L’efficacia di questo modus operandi gli è stata ampiamente riconosciuta e lo ha portato a collaborare con brand quali Cappellini, Tod’s, Mercedes Benz, Alcantara e Henrytimi e i suoi progetti sono stati presentati durante le Design Week di Milano, Parigi, Colonia, Londra, Shanghai, Mosca e New York.

Eco-sustainable collection for FOSSIL THE BRAND NEW CACTUS BAGS ARE THE LATEST EXAMPLE OF THE SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS AND PARTNERS FOSSIL HAS CHOSEN TO LEAVE A LIGHTER FOOTPRINT ON THE PLANET With the Kier tote bag collection, Fossil is proud to be one of the first retailers to have launched a vegan cactus material, an industry-wide innovation. Each bag is made with a material derived from organically grown cactus leaves made by Desserto®, the Mexican-based company specializing in sustainable materials. The leaves from plants of cacti whose growth requires only rainwater and minerals present in the soil. One time harvested, the leaves are dried in the sun for 3-6 days, without the need for other sources of energy. In addition to an energy-efficient processing technique, cactus cultivation does not require the use of herbicides, pesticides or irrigation systems. As a result of this innovative process, each Kier tote saves 7.5 liters of water: the equivalent of fifteen 500ml bottles of water. In addition, the trunk of the cacti remains intact, however allow the leaves to grow back and be harvested again after 6-8 months. The collection currently includes four fantastic and versatile shades: musk, wine, black and brown.

These launches are the fruit of the commitment that Fossil announced back in 2019 as part of the Make Time For Good initiative, still ongoing, aimed at contributing to change in communities around the world through environmentally sustainable materials, products and packaging, and by reducing water consumption e of greenhouse gas emissions.

Inoltre, il tronco dei cactus resta intatto, per permettere alle foglie di ricrescere ed essere nuovamente raccolte dopo 6-8 mesi. Carmina Campus and Moroso together in the name of sustainability DURING UDINE DESIGN WEEK21, MOROSO TEXTILE CREATIONS LEFT THEIR NATURAL SETTING BEHIND TO VENTURE OUT INTO THE OUTSIDE WORLD, TAKING ON THE DYNAMISM OF A CARMINA CAMPUS BAG Carmina Campus and Moroso: two productive realities with different scope and size but a similar conceptual approach, guided by two creative minds - Ilaria Venturini Fendi and Patrizia Moroso – who share the same design vision where the value of diversity is not only in terms of aesthetics and quality, but also cultural, conceptual, and environmental. During Udine Design Week21, these two brands, which are so different, yet so similar, found a meeting point and common interest in a project that features as its protagonist the bags of Carmina Campus that are made from the leftover production scraps of the REDONDO armchair by PATRICIA URQUIOLA for Moroso. Premium velvet with a silky and iridescent sheen, but also canvas and needlecord jersey in pastel tones or intense colours are accordingly transformed into minibags, crossbody bags with a rectangular or rounded bottom, comfortable shoppers with two handles, and multifunctional backpacks. The project, which began with an exhibition that started on 10 May in the windows of the prestigious CUMINI INTERIORS design space in Udine, continued in the store of Carmina Campus in Rome and in other important spaces for fashion and furnishings.

Stupendi velluti dall'aspetto setoso e cangiante, ma anche canvas e jersey millerighe in colori pastello o intense tonalità si trasformano così in minibag, tracolle rettangolari o dal fondo stondato, comode shopping a due manici e zaini multifunzione. Il progetto, che ha preso avvio con un’esposizione fino al 10 maggio nella vetrina del prestigioso spazio di design CUMINI INTERIORS di Udine, è proseguito in seguito nel punto vendita di Carmina Campus a Roma e in altri importanti spazi di moda e arredo.

Born from the collaboration with the Californian start-up MycoWorks, it took three years to develop and to create a product with extraordinary aesthetics and functional features, aligned to the very high quality standards of Hermès. Once produced in America, the material is tanned and worked by the skilled workers of the maison in France, which make it resistant, durable, and with a valuable vintage effect that characterises the look of the Victoria bag.

Although there are already several materials derived from mushrooms on the market, Sylvania has distinguishing qualities as it is connected to a research that has roots in art and craftsmanship, making it the highest quality material of its kind in the world. By adopting it, Hermès thus becomes the first luxury brand in the world to bet on the use of alternative materials to leather, effectively responding to the increasingly pressing demand for environmental protection, also on behalf of luxury consumers.

La maison del lusso francese guarda alla sostenibilità e riedita la sua cult bag Victoria, nata nel 1997, con un innovativo materiale derivato dal micelio dei funghi, il Sylvania. Nato dalla collaborazione con la start-up californiana MycoWorks, ha richiesto tre anni per il suo sviluppo e per dare vita ad un prodotto dalle straordinarie caratteristiche estetiche e funzionali, allineate con gli altissimi standard qualitativi di Hermès.

Una volta prodotto in America, il materiale viene conciato e lavorato dalle abili maestranze della maison in Francia, che lo rendono resistente, durevole, e con un pregevole aspetto vintage che caratterizza il look della Victoria bag.

"WEAVES" BY LOEWE The "Weaves" collection explores the technique of weaving both in its decorative function and as a method of constructing a structure. The main protagonist is the Galician pan for roasting chestnuts ("raoaster"). It is a handmade terracotta container in which functional holes are made, factor that offer an excellent starting point for the interpolation with different weaving techniques featuring weaves and knots in leather, raffia and bamboo, waste materials recovered from the Loewe collections. The vases are handmade by the master potter Antonio Pereira and subsequently decorated and embellished with experimental weaving techniques by the artists Arko from Japan, Min Chen from China, and Laia Arqueros from Spain.

La collezione "Weaves" esplora la tecnica della tessitura sia nella sua funzione decorativa che come metodo per costruire una struttura. Protagonista principale è la pentola per arrostire le caldarroste della Galizia ("raoaster"). Si tratta di un contenitore in terracotta realizzato a mano in cui vengono fatti dei fori funzionali, che offrono un ottimo punto di partenza per l'interpolazione con diverse tecniche di tessitura tra intrecci e nodi in pelle, rafia e bambù, materiali di scarto recuperati dalle collezioni Loewe. I vasi sono realizzati a mano dal maestro vasaio Antonio Pereira e successivamente decorati ed impreziositi con tecniche sperimentali di tessitura dagli artisti Arko dal Giappone, Min Chen dalla Cina, e Laia Arqueros dalla Spagna.

In pandemic times, the international event dedicated to leather goods has moved to the online platform, recreating the dynamics of the physical show with the multiple opportunities offered by the digital version. From 23 March, the brands presented their products and talked directly with buyers in the virtual stands implemented by the ZOOM videocall function offering an overview of the FW211/22 collections in the virtual showrooms, enriched by videos and images. Tools that have satisfied the business and networking needs of the fashion community, making them discover the many news of the season. The MIPEL Digital Days enriched the experience, during which on 23 and 24 March the journalist and writer Alan Friedmann talked about fashion and luxury, the value of made in Italy, sustainability, markets and future prospects for the sector, gen-

erational change and new ways of communicating with important guests on the international scene of the sector.

Within the platform, there was also the Buyers Lounge, where it was possible to discover the selection of companies according to criteria that reflect the research needs of international retailers: Women Entrepreneurs in Leather Goods, Slow Manufacturing, Travel Goods Technology, Craftsmanship Elevated Industry.

And Italian Startup, a project dedicated to a selection of young Italian designers who have distinguished themselves for their creative ideas.

Despite the missing ability to touch&feel products, the event was still able to offer an immersive and exciting experience thanks to its rich content. It will stay online, available to its community, until mid-July, waiting for MIPEL120 which will bring back the physical show with a phygital version, from 19 to 21 September 2021.

First eyewear collection

by Cuoio di Toscana This past 22 April, to mark International Earth Day, Cuoio di Toscana gave proof of its concrete commitment to the environment by debuting in the field of eyewear with its first sustainable collection of sunglasses. The limited-edition capsule collection is part of Twenty21, the collection with which the Consortium debuted in womenswear during MMD this past FW2021 in a project with an eco-friendly soul. Innovative capacity, historic expertise and, of course, sustainability are at the heart of a collection, which has chosen a naturally green material usually used for making shoe soles to transform it into a vegetable-tanned fabric that is tailor-made with a characteristic floral print. The result is 9 unique pieces, which are fruit of the expertise of Tuscan craftsmen, whose shapes – squares, butterflies, macro rectangles – reinterpret a distinctly Seventies inspiration.

TheOneMilano unveiled them with a live digital event dedicated to the excellence of Made in Italy fashion on the Alwaysonshow platform for selected buyers and press. Scheduled for 22 March and available on the digital fair’s website from 23 March, alongside its 26 prestigious brands of women’s haut-à-porter it bringed to the catwalk also a shortlist of seven craftsmen specialised in headwear, fine knitwear, in the creation of paper patterns and canvases to obtain perfect garments, belts, inlays and large fur manufacturing, gloves and floral applications.

An immersion into beauty and good manufacturing to discover those “little hands” behind the success of the Italian prêt-à-porter collections, but also an operation that sensitively aims to preserve a heritage that is very close to becoming extinct due to exaggerated fast fashion and that TheOneMilano wants to realise in a smart version on its digital platform for new generations.

The pandemic really put key segments for the recovery of the European economy to the test, like fashion and design & lifestyle, which are responsible for generating an added value on an annual basis for the European GDP of 680 billion euros (EUROSTAT 2018), characterised by a prevalence of small-sized businesses with a strong artisanal orientation. In a context that seems more challenging and competitive, while requiring greater resilience, the drive towards innovation and creativity becomes more important in meeting the new and changing needs of the global market.

It is with this spirit that the WORTH Partnership Project - Europe’s largest creativity incubator – gave life this past 11 and 12 May to the digital event “The Future of Creative Design”, which with the help of sector experts of international renown and through the presentation of start-ups and innovative projects, took a 360° look at the themes of innovation, sustainability, and competitiveness as key factors for post-pandemic growth. The WORTH Partnership Project is a four-year project funded by COSME, the European Union's Programme for the Competitiveness of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), which promotes transnational collaborations between designers, creatives, manufacturing companies (SMEs) and tech firms to create innovative and design-driven products. Now, in it’s second edition, today it claims over 350 SME partners from 34 nations.

After the opening of the works by the European Commission and EIASME, the theme of craftsmanship 2.0 was at the centre of the speech given

by Assaad Awad – Spanish/Lebanese multidisciplinary designer and artist with an international background, known for having created garments for stars such as Lady Gaga. Awad began from the figure of the historic artisan, in other words he who by definition ‘uses his art to benefit others’, to then focus on how technology has changed and will change this figure in the near future. In fact, in the past, the work of artisans was known and appreciated only in the community where they lived or slightly outside of it, while today, artisans can be found anywhere in the world with access to global information, while also proposing their art to whomever they might want around the globe thanks to new technologies. Over the years, craftsmanship has gone from replying to practical needs (like creating clothing meant to cover and protect), to satisfying the need to express individual status (by proposing fashion and luxury items), all the way up to the present and the possibility offered by new technologies in creating smart products capable of providing information and useful data to the user.

La pandemia ha messo a dura prova comparti-chiave per la ripresa dell’economia europea come il fashion e il design & lifestyle, che generano su base annua un valore aggiunto per il prodotto interno lordo di 680 miliardi di euro (EUROSTAT 2018) e che tuttavia sono dominati da realtà di piccole dimensioni e da una forte componente artigianale. In un contesto che appare sempre più sfidante e competitivo e che richiede una grande resilienza diventa vieppiù importante la spinta all’innovazione e alla creatività per venire incontro alle nuove e mutevoli esigenze del mercato globale. È con questo spirito che WORTH Partnership Project - il più grande incubatore creativo d’Europa - ha dato avvio lo scorso 11 e 12 maggio all’evento digital “The Future of Creative Design”, che con l’aiuto di esperti del settore di risonanza internazionale e attraverso la presentazione di start-up e progetti innovativi, ha voluto esplorare a 360 gradi il tema dell’innovazione, della sostenibilità e della competitività quale volano della crescita post pandemia.

Ricordiamo che WORTH Partnership Project è il progetto quadriennale finanziato dal Programma COSME dell'Unione europea per la competitività delle imprese e delle piccole e medie imprese (PMI), che favorisce la nascita di collaborazioni transnazionali tra designer, creativi, imprese manifatturiere (PMI) e tech firm, al fine di sviluppare prodotti innovativi e di design. Alla sua seconda edizione, oggi vanta oltre 350 partner fra le PMI di 34 nazioni.

Dopo l’apertura dei lavori a cura della Commissione Europea e di EIASME, il tema dell’artigianalità 2.0 è stato al centro dell’intervento di Assaad Awad – designer e artista multidisciplinare ispano-libanese dal background internazionale, noto per aver creato capi per star del calibro di Lady Gaga. Awad è partito dalla figura dell’artigiano nella storia, colui che secondo la definizione ‘usa la sua arte per il beneficio degli altri’, per concentrarsi, poi, su come la tecnologia abbia modificato e modificherà questa figura nel prossimo futuro. Mentre, infatti, nel passato il lavoro dell’artigiano era conosciuto e apprezzato solo dalla comunità in cui viveva o tutt’al più da quelle limitrofe, oggi egli può trovarsi ovunque nel mondo e accedere comunque ad informazioni globali, così come può proporre la sua arte a chiunque intorno al globo grazie alle nuove tecnologie. Nel corso degli anni, inoltre, l’artigianato è passato dal rispondere a necessità pratiche (come quella di creare abiti per coprirsi e proteggersi), all’assolvere esigenze di status (proponendo oggetti di moda e lusso), fino ad arrivare al presente e alla possibilità, offerta dalle nuove tecnologie, di creare prodotti smart in grado di fornire informazioni e dati utili all’utilizzatore.

Machines and new technologies, as already seen in the past with the industrial revolution, will not replace man, but rather allow him to further develop his creativity and experiment. Technology, in fact, makes the job of the artisan easier, allowing him to save time and effort in the crafting of said product, while also allowing him to focus more on details, execution, and creativity. Thanks to technologies, the designer concluded, we will take one more step forward in the evolution of craftsmanship, combining manual skill, know-how and innovation to create something unique.

Richard Van der Laken, CEO, co-founder and creative director of What Design Can Do, instead offered an overview on design and how it can help to overcome the current impasse, underlining how it’s possible by replacing the extractive, polluting, and linear system guided by consumerism (according to the ‘Take, Make, Waste’ model) with a new model guided by the concept ‘Take Less, Make Better, Handle Smarter’.

János Keresnyei, expert in creative business development, instead offered participants some insights on the management of intangible assets, underlining how it is fundamental for the designer to “establish and maintain procedures to guarantee that the design of the product (its components and layout) are faithfully represented in production, transferring the design of the product into production methods and procedures, while creating a productive environment that guarantees the compliance of the product with regulations and sector standards”.

The webinar was also enriched by the presentation of 66 successful case histories, projects that combine sustainability, inclusiveness, and innovation, which were all created as part of the WORTH Partnership Project.

PROJECTS WITH A HIGH RATE OF SUSTAINABILITY Modifiable Vegan Bag Collection by KZENIYA, produced by the Italian Super Company, did its best to provide an alternative solution to overconsumption and the fashion industry’s negative environmental impact by developing a 3-piece bag collection made from bio/vegan leather derived from apple waste, which – through different combinations and the addition of different accessories and jewellery – can be continuously reinvented.

Le macchine e le nuove tecnologie, inoltre, come già avvenuto in passato con la rivoluzione industriale, non sostituiranno l’uomo, ma anzi gli permetteranno di sviluppare maggiormente la sua creatività e sperimentare. La tecnologia, infatti, facilita il lavoro dell’artigiano, permettendogli di risparmiare tempo e fatica sul fronte della lavorazione vera e propria, mentre gli consente di concentrare maggiore attenzione sui dettagli, sull’esecuzione e sulla creatività. Grazie alle tecnologie, ha concluso il designer, compiremo un nuovo passo sulla strada dell’evoluzione dell’artigianalità, unendo manualità, know-how e innovazione per creare qualcosa di unico.

are also banana peels, which is the hallmark of the Italian project Meraky

by Emilia Paolicelli, with Portuguese fabrics by Casa Grigi: cradle-to-cradle bags made of banana peel leather matched with interwoven inserts derived from recycled coffee packaging.

Kombucha Tsugi-bag collection instead aims to promote local industry, the circular economy, and sustainable consumption with a collection of bags available in five variants, made of kombucha-based materials, a fungus normally used for producing sparkling beverages, matched with second-hand textiles.

Ventri focuses on materials of animal origins to produce its bags: the cow stomach. A cow, in fact, has four different stomachs, with each one dedicated to a different function, thereby offering different shapes and textures. Starting from this material, considered a waste product by the meat industry, Ventri gives life to three different kinds of bags, each one made of leather with one of the four different stomachs suited to tanning.

Circular Bags instead focuses on the reuse and circularity concept, proposing a capsule collection made up by five bags designed from the start with the second generation in mind, thanks to the possibility of combining the patterns of each bag in different ways, thereby saving resources and making the most of valuable materials, also through a partnership with a small crafter in Greece, a country hit hard by the economic crisis.

LiLO (Link & Lock) by the designer Maria José Zambrano Lopez, which is produced by the Italian company Clic, is instead a signature modular connector for jewellery (but maybe also bags?) made of emerald by-products and recycled metals, which combines beauty with sustainability.

PROJECTS WITH A HIGH RATE OF INCLUSIVENESS WeAr Design by EITHNE (Italy), AER IT CONSULTING LTD (UK) and DANIELA TANASE aims to involve customers in the creative process, while also building a resilient artist community through the development of a platform where visual artists and customers co-create fashion items, through novel collaboration processes.

STEM instead aims to offer a sustainable alternative to disposable fast fashion with a garment creation and retail system for the 21st century,

sottolineando come sia fondamentale per il designer “stabilire e mantenere procedure per garantire che il design del prodotto (i suoi componenti e la sua configurazione) sia correttamente tradotto in specifiche di produzione, trasferire il design del prodotto nei metodi e nelle procedure di produzione, e creare un ambiente produttivo che garantisca la conformità del prodotto ai requisiti normativi e agli standard di settore”.

Il webinar è stato arricchito anche dalla presentazione di 66 case history di successo, progetti che coniugano sostenibilità, inclusività e innovazione, realizzati all’interno di WORTH Partnership Project.

Tra i materiali innovativi impiegati ci sono anche le bucce di banana, bandiera del progetto dell’italiana Meraky di Emilia Paolicelli, con tessuti portoghesi di Casa Grigi: cradle-to-cradle bags realizzate con un materiale tratto dalla buccia di banana abbinato a inserti intrecciati ottenuti dal recupero del packaging del caffè.

Kombucha Tsugi-bag collection, invece, mira a promuove l'industria locale, l'economia circolare e il consumo sostenibile con una collezione di borse, disponibili in cinque varianti, realizzate con materiali a base di kombucha, un fungo normalmente utilizzato per produrre bevande frizzanti, abbinati a tessuti di seconda mano.

Ventri, al contrario, punta su un materiale di origine animale per produrre le sue borse: lo stomaco di mucca. Una mucca, infatti, ha quattro diversi stomaci, ciascuno dei quali caratterizzato da una diversa funzione e quindi diverse forme e texture. A partire da questo materiale, considerato di scarto dall’industria alimentare, Ventri dà vita a tre diversi tipi di borse, ciascuna realizzata in pelle con uno dei quattro diversi stomaci adatti ad essere conciati.

The authenticity of EnaOna lies in the innovative design of the shoe’s structure with reusable high heels and in the artisanal crafting of the collection’s jewellery heels. Comfort and technology are combined, thanks to the presence of an ergonomic insole, an ultra-thin and reusable carbon fibre core, and a hidden heel pin mechanism to change heel height and shape.

Silencio aims to develop a smart and technological solution for the art of dancing and well-being, with a shoe sole cover for tap dance shoes made from advanced materials - flexible anti-shock, and soundproof -, capable of resolving problems connected to the noisiness typical of these shoes, the damage they can cause to floors, and above all problems connected to the user’s joints and back.

The Eastern Side of Riviera starts from the assumption that foldable bags are extremely useful for travelling and storage in wardrobes, but above all attractive. From here, the idea to create a collection of foldable bags with an intelligent and striking design made from tulle – to offer flexibility – obtained from sustainable yarns like recycled nylon from old fishing nets or biodegradable yarns, combined with upcycled leather to provide structure.

STEM, invece, mira ad offrire un’alternativa sostenibile alla moda usa e getta con un sistema di creazione e vendita di capi di abbigliamento per il 21° secolo dove i tessuti vengono prodotti solo dopo la progettazione e l'acquisto, combinando una nuova tecnica di tessitura digitale a scarto zero, con una produzione di abbigliamento sostenibile e un approccio al dettaglio che mira a cambiare radicalmente l'industria della moda.

Da qui l’idea di creare una collezione di borse pieghevoli dal design intelligente e accattivante, realizzate in tulle - per offrire flessibilità – ottenuto da filati sostenibili come nylon riciclato da vecchie reti da pesca o filati biodegradabili, combinato con pelle riciclata per dare struttura all’insieme.

Minois, invece, punta tutto sulla tecnologia per dar vita ad un prodotto smart: una collezione di borse - una tracolla, una borsa porta iPad, una borsa per laptop e una valigetta realizzate con tecnologie tipo la stampa 3D – caratterizzate da un dispositivo di illuminazione interna che si attiva con l’apertura e che offre anche la possibilità di caricare i dispositivi, come il cellulare, in modalità wireless.

BioChromatic, di Loreto Binvignat e Vienna Textile Lab (startup che produce coloranti a base di batteri), raccoglie invece la sfida di utilizzare coloranti biogenici, una tecnica di tintura sostenibile ancora agli inizi, per il futuro dell’industria tessile e della moda.

For the FW 21/22 collection, the brand takes inspiration from the oriental world and the Japanese culture, on a romantic journey in search of oneself. The collection features clean lines, precious details and pasty and dense hues, characteristic of the overseas territories: from sky blue to antique pink, from tobacco to burgundy, from petrol to black, with cool accents like purple and blue. The Italian leathers of excellent quality are flanked by new tactile materials such as duvets, velvet and suede that mix with each other, enhancing the lines of the accessories. Anna Virgili's iconic models are joined by new bags with a minimalist design, with the maxi octagonal eyelets from the "Mixo" line - consisting of a shoulder bag, a bucket, a handbag and a hobo - and the breath of fresh air from the "Stripes" shoppers, proposed in 3 sizes with removable maxi fringes.

The “Sustainable Leather Contest” moves into high gear. The competition, promoted by Smit & Zoon, leader in chemical products for the leather industry, which in 2021 will arrive at the milestone of 200 years of successful business and innovation, focuses on sustainability as its best practice and focus, is heading to the final stages. A value that is part of the company’s DNA and which today is interpreted by the designers Alexandros Vasdekis, Guglielmo Gorno, Hommy Diaz, Javier A. Mogolloìn, Laure Wolff in the five finalist capsule collections that feature sustainable leather as the protagonist - understood as a by-product of the meat industry subsequently enhanced through tanning, but also as a material supported by a value chain that is socially and ecologically sustainable.

The five selected footwear talents, among the best alumni of the Arsutoria School, an internationally recognised institution for footwear designers, guarantees a wide variety of approaches and creativity in the Smit & Zoon design challenge. Coming from five different countries, with different backgrounds and various perspectives, they enrich the results of the challenge by inspiring new outlooks and further developments of their ideas.

The five capsule collections are aimed at the high-end range of which today we concretely present the models, and are made using sustainable leathers treated with the chemical products of Smit & Zoon. Two are the prototypes for each finalist that allow you to truly appreciate the concepts and innovative design proposed by the creatives, as well as the quality and value of leather tanned with the sustainable system developed by the Dutch company.

Il “Sustainable Leather Contest” si avvia alla conclusione. Giunge alle fasi finali il concorso, promosso da Smit & Zoon, azienda leder nei prodotti chimici per l’industria della pelle che nel 2021 raggiungerà il traguardo di 200 anni di imprenditoria e innovazione, e che punta sulla sostenibilità come best practice e focus. Un valore che fa parte del dna dell’azienda e che oggi eÌ interpretato dai designer Alexandros Vasdekis, Guglielmo Gorno, Hommy Diaz, Javier A. Si rivolgono all’alto di gamma le cinque capsule collection di cui oggi presentiamo i modelli realizzati in concreto utilizzando i materiali sostenibili forniti da Smit & Zoon. Due prototipi per ciascun finalista che permettono di apprezzare dal vero i concetti e il design innovativo proposto dai creativi, così come il pregio e il valore della pelle conciata con il sistema sostenibile sviluppato dall’azienda dei Paesi Bassi.
