A beauty raffle ean-Louis Constanza, direttore commerciale Wandercraft, ha lottato perché suo figlio di 16 anni potesse in qualche modo camminare, nonostante la malattia genetica che non gli consente l’utilizzo delle gambe. Dopo aver costruito un esoscheletro robotico, oggi afferma: “Fra 10 anni potrebbero non esistere più sedie a rotelle”.

Ho ripensato ai ragazzi incontrati sul numero scorso che, con tutte le loro energie vitali, praticano sport nonostante la disabilità. La speranza è che questa profezia si avveri e loro possano conquistare sempre più indipendenza.

E ho pensato a come le cose del mondo, date spesso per scontate e immutabili, per esempio una sedia a rotelle, in realtà potrebbero un giorno sparire, lasciando spazio a migliori soluzioni. Ho pensato: è quello che accade oggi in molti ambiti della nostra vita, fra cui moda, sfilate, fiere, negozi, esperienze di acquisto.

La sfida del cambiamento. Una sfida bella, per cui è spesso arduo spendere profezie. La sfida di questo numero che vuole accompagnare il ritorno delle più importanti fiere del settore moda con una rinnovata miscela di bellezza.

C’è la bellezza dei marchi affermati, il coraggio di nuovi brand, la freschezza dei designer emergenti. C’è l’avventura per la sostenibilità di una piattaforma online, e la magnifica storia di un dritto a uscire su terra rossa. Ci sono i racconti di vetrine di lusso fra le alpi, così come le note immortali di scarpe che hanno fatto la storia. Una riffa della bellezza, in cui pescare le proprie predizioni.

Jean-Louis Constanza, commercial director of Wandercraft, fought for his 16-year-old son so that he could somehow walk, despite the genetic disease that does not allow him to use his legs. After building a robotic exoskeleton, he says today: “In 10 years wheelchairs may no longer exist”.

I thought back to the guys I met in the last issue who, with all their vital energy, play sports despite their disability. The hope is that this prediction will come true and that they manage to achieve more and more independence.

And I thought about how the things of the world, often taken for granted and immutable, for example a wheelchair, could actually disappear one day, leaving room for better solutions. I thought: this is what happens today in many areas of our life, including fashion, fashion shows, fairs, shops, shopping experiences.

The challenge of change. A beautiful challenge, for which it is often difficult to spend predictions. The challenge of this issue which aims to accompany the return of the most important fairs in the fashion sector with a renewed blend of beauty.

There is the beauty of established brands, the courage of new brands, the freshness of emerging designers. There is the adventure for the sustainability of an online platform, and the magnificent story of a straight forehand getting off a clay court. There are tales of luxury shop windows in the Alps, as well as the immortal shoe notes that have written history. A beauty raffle, where you can make your own predictions.

Si riparte in presenza e con tutte le garanzie di sicurezza anti-Covid, per rispondere alla necessità delle aziende di tornare ad incontrare i buyer, riallacciare le relazioni, vedere e toccare dal vivo i prodotti presentati dai migliori brand del made in Italy e del mondo. Presentato in occasione dell’Assemblea Annuale di Assocalzaturifici all’inizio di luglio, fa parte della strategia complessa messa in campo dall’associazione per sostenere la ripresa del settore partendo proprio dalla sostenibilità. Il timido recupero prende avvio con l’export

Dopo aver chiuso il 2020 con una perdita di 1/4 del fatturato (attestato a 10,72 miliardi di euro, -25,2% sul 2019) e della produzione nazionale, l’export nazionale si è aperto in recupero nel primo trimestre 2021 con +0,3% in quantità e +3% in valore: “La ripresa è ancora distante, sebbene l’attenuarsi della virulenza pandemica riesca a farci intravedere la luce in fondo al tunnel. – spiega Siro Badon, Presidente di Assocalzaturifici – Se sul fronte estero il rimbalzo di marzo è bastato per riportare i risultati del trimestre almeno sui valori della prima frazione 2020, non così sul mercato nazionale, dove la chiusura dei negozi nei centri commerciali nel weekend, misura rimossa solo lo scorso maggio, ha indotto un ulteriore calo negli acquisti delle famiglie rispetto ai primi 3 mesi di un anno addietro. I tempi di recupero non saranno brevi, con pesanti conseguenze sulla selezione tra le imprese e la tenuta occupazionale. In particolare, la produzione evidenzia nel primo trimestre una flessione del -6,4% su gennaio-marzo 2020 e addirittura un -30% circa sull’analogo periodo 2019 pre-pandemia. Sul mercato interno, gli acquisti mostrano un calo del -3,5% in quantità e del -6,9% in termini di spesa, con un divario superiore al -20% su due anni addietro”.

L’export italiano

Nel primo trimestre 2021 si registra l’incremento dei flussi verso la Svizzera (+13% in quantità) e Francia (+8%) entrambe legate al fenomeno del terzismo per le griffe del lusso, fuori dall’Europa cresce la Cina (+44,4% in volume e +74,8% in valore, +21% prezzo medio) premiando soprattutto l’alto di gamma dei marchi del fashion oggetto del revenge spending dei consumatori cinesi e in ingresso diretto nel paese (prima le merci transitavano da Hong Kong, che infatti cede del -11,4% in volume). Da contraltare, le contrazioni in alcuni tradizionali mercati di sbocco: Germania (-0,8% in quantità), USA (che dopo il -30% del 2020 segna +3,5% in volume e -8,6% in valore) e Spagna (-5,9% in quantità), Regno Unito (che crolla a oltre il -40%). Il saldo commerciale risulta in attivo per 1,13 miliardi di euro (+11,2%), sebbene ancora inferiore del -4,3% rispetto a due anni addietro.

MICAM returns with a three-day edition, from 19 to 21 September, highlighting the spring-summer 2022 collections and sector trends by implementing a strong synergy between physical and digital moments with the support of the MICAM Milano Digital Show platform allowing brands to schedule visits and meetings with buyers before, during and after the trade fair. As for the contents of the event, the MICAM X innovation hub is back, which in the digital version of May 2021 achieved great success with over 30 thousand views, with a full calendar of seminars, workshops, with new market trends as protagonists, style, research of materials, future of retail and sustainability with a panel of speakers of the highest level. The event will also once again include the area dedicated to Emerging Designers

with the proposals of 12 international footwear designers and the MICAM Start-Up Boot Camp, an incubator of the best start-ups to be pushed in the sector and there will also be the debut of the new Italian Artisan Heroes space, intended for the best Italian private label productions, with success stories of the digital platform dedicated to craftsmanship. Among the special initiatives, protagonists of MICAM X, there is also the launch of the new patented certification mark created by Assocalzaturifici to enhance companies that have a credible industrial sustainability project: VCS - Verified & Certified Steps. Presented at the Annual Assembly of Assocalzaturifici at the beginning of July, it is part of the complex strategy implemented by the association to support the recovery of the sector starting from sustainability. The new brand allows the most virtuous companies to gain accreditation and to position themselves in national and international markets, and the less virtuous ones to undertake an adaptation path with the support of CIMAC. The agreements made with Unicredit for the financial instrument FinDynamic were also presented during the meeting. Virtuous suppliers get liquidity support by the leading companies, through a dynamic discount system, the management of which will be entrusted to a technological platform.

And with Umana, for the reorganisation of skills within companies in the post-crisis period.

The timid recovery starts with exports

ono oggetti intimi, le scarpe. Sono personali, amichevoli, amabili. Capaci di valorizzarti. Ma possono anche essere irritanti se ti lasci sedurre a colpo d’occhio, senza valutarle con intelligenza e sapienza. Basta pensare che Janis Paige, famosa interprete di musical a Broadway, a chi le suggeriva di cambiare le scarpe poco adatte per il suo ruolo di severa redattrice di moda, rispose: “Queste con il tacco curvo e sottile, sono perfette. E proprio il tacco è il trampolino di lancio per la ragazza sexy che è in me”.

Parliamo di scarpe, allora, e parliamo di tacchi che possono esprimere anche il nostro carattere più segreto. Scarpe ispirate dalla moda, della quale sono un elemento fondamentale.

Shoes are intimate objects. They are personal, friendly, lovable.

They are able to make you look and feel good. But they can also be irritating if you allow yourself to be seduced at a glance, without evaluating them with intelligence and wisdom. Just think that Janis Paige, the Broadway musical star, when asked to change her shoes that were unsuitable for her role as a strict fashion editor, replied: “These with the curved and thin heel are perfect. And the heel is the springboard for the sexy girl in me.”

Definita tecnicamente “calzatura con tallone rialzato senza tacco isolato” viene presentata con il brevetto 354889 del 17 settembre 1937, rilasciato poi il 13 dicembre dello stesso anno. È dal marzo 1936 che Benito Mussolini impone al Paese un ampio programma di nazionalizzazione e protezionismo, che si sintetizza nella parola d’ordine autarchia. È la risposta alle sanzioni commerciali che la Società delle Nazioni ha imposto all’Italia l’ottobre 1935 per l’aggressione militare all’Etiopia. L’acciaio di migliore qualità è requisito per gli armamenti e quello in sostituzione risulta talmente scadente da essere inadatto a sostenere l’arco plantare che rende così speciali le scarpe Ferragamo. Il calzolaio dei sogni, come verrà chiamato, trova la soluzione riempiendo lo spazio tra il tacco e l’avampiede con pezzi di sughero sardo, pressati e incollati. La scarsità dei materiali destinati alle calzature spinge Ferragamo a utilizzare per la tomaia canapa, feltro e pelle di pesce. Osservando la carta dei cioccolatini, luccicante ed elastica, ricorre anche al cellophan, che attorcigliato a fili di seta colorati, può essere lavorato all’uncinetto.

Technically defined as “shoes with high heel without isolated heel,” they were presented with patent 354889 of 17 September 1937, and then released on 13 December of the same year. In March 1936, Benito Mussolini imposed a wide-ranging programme of nationalisation and protectionism in Italy, which was summed up by the slogan autarchy. It was a response to the trade sanctions imposed on Italy by the League of Nations in October 1935 for Italy’s military aggression against Ethiopia. The best quality steel was needed for armaments, and the replacement steel was so poor that it was unsuitable for supporting the arch of the foot that makes Ferragamo shoes so special. The shoemaker of dreams, as he became known, solved the problem by filling the space between the heel and the forefoot with pieces of Sardinian cork, pressed and glued together. The scarcity of footwear materials led Ferragamo to use hemp, felt and fish-skin for the uppers. Looking at chocolate wrappings, shiny and elastic, he also resorted to the use of cellophane, which could be twisted into coloured silk threads and crocheted.

Ma è stata anche la miglior promoter di Manolo Blahnik, l’elegantissimo shoe designer le cui scarpe snelle e dal tacco svettante (11 centimetri) hanno una forte carica femminile, apprezzate anche dalla ex first lady americana Melania Trump. Le ha indossate nel primo viaggio ufficiale in Belgio e, purtroppo, nella versione in vernice nera, anche nella sua visita in Texas, all’indomani dell’uragano Harvey, nel settembre 2017. Ne aveva sfoggiate un paio celesti anche il 20 gennaio 2017, giorno dell’insediamento, per completare il meraviglioso tailleur di Ralph Lauren che indossava. A Carrie, invece, le rubarono costringendola a cercare aiuto scalza. Era il momento in cui entrò in scena il famoso stiletto con la suola rossa di Christian Louboutin, che insegna come un dettaglio possa diventare la caratteristica fondante di un marchio e di uno stile.

Who doesn’t know of Sex and the City, the TV series that made Sarah Jessica Parker the symbol of New York girls? With a touch of Hooker Chic (a term used to describe the clothing style of celebrities such as Paris Hilton) and a touch of sex appeal. But she was also the best promoter of Manolo Blahnik, the very elegant shoe designer whose slender shoes with a soaring heel (11 centimetres) add a strong feminine allure to any outfit, and are also appreciated by the American first lady Melania Trump. She wore them on her first official trip to Belgium and, unfortunately, in the black patent leather version, on her visit to Texas in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, in September 2017. E se alcune modelle si rifiutarono di infilarle nello show, Lady Gaga ha contribuito alla loro popolarità utilizzandole per il video di Bad Romance, girato nel 2009. Entirely carved in wood, they are 30 centimetres high, with the upper and lining joined by 4 zips to allow the foot to enter. And while some models refused to wear them in the show, Lady Gaga contributed to their popularity by using them in her music video for Bad Romance, shot in 2009. The only other women who have dared to wear these impossible shoes, which are also a sexual symbol and a form of pleasure (see the exhibition “Shoes: Pleasure&Pain” at the Victoria and Albert Museum), are Daphne Guinness and the singer Kelis. Le versioni più esasperate apparvero ai piedi dei membri di gruppi giovanili (come i Club Kids) e di esponenti delle subculture fetish e gothic. Potremmo andare ancora più indietro e citare l’attrice e cantante Carmen Miranda che, già nell’estate del 1943, si mostrava con queste calzature, ma sono citazioni da lasciare agli storici.

But when these ungainly shoes made the Black Venus fall on the catwalk, an unexpected phenomenon broke out, so much so that Westwood has since sold over 300 pairs, mostly to museums and collectors. Platform soles have a long history because, as early as the 80s, many designers tried to propose them, although the excessive diffusion of these models in the previous decade had saturated the market and consumer tastes. Ten years later, however, the continuous growth in the thickness of rubber soles in sneakers and casual footwear paved the way for the return of the platform shoe. More exaggerated versions appeared on the feet of members of young bands (such as Club Kids) and exponents of fetish and gothic subcultures. This shoe artist, who contributed his wonderful creations to Christian Dior’s fashion, loved the medium heel. So much so that around 90% of the models kept in his archive are of this size. It all started with a sort of comma, that of the “Polichinelle” heel, inspired by an 18th century model, which Monsieur Vivier adapted in 1960. Gherardo Felloni, creative director of this famous fashion house, updated this “twisted” heel for one of his latest models, calling it Courbette, which rests firmly on the ground and sinuously displays a golden curve. The Americans call this medium heel a kitten heel, to emphasise its small size and the graceful, somewhat childlike trait of its appearance.

This enchanting actress wore Ferragamo shoes in all her films, as well as in her life. She purchased dozens of shoes up until her death in 1962, as evidenced by the orders kept in the company’s archives. Her favourite models were the Filetia and Viatica pumps, with their slender, vertiginously high 11 cm heels, for which Ferragamo had patented a special model, half wood and half steel.

The mistery of fashion

he la moda sia magia è cosa risaputa, soprattutto per chi ne fruisce. Perché attrae come una calamita, perché avvolge con il suo carico di bellezza e di promesse, perché fa sognare. Soprattutto quando i tempi non sono propriamente felici, aiuta a esorcizzare la paura a colpi di estetica. Ma non solo. Fin dalle sue origini – vale a dire con la tunica che Dio mise sulle pudenda di Adamo ed Eva- la moda non ha mai smesso di flirtare con il mistero, seguendo quella caratteristica che appartiene squisitamente alla sua essenza in cui un simbolismo ricco di significati che trascendono il visibile – seppur bellissimo e avvolto da crinoline – può serenamente essere ricondotto a una dimensione sensibile molto affine all’esoterismo tout court. E come tale, capace di arricchirne ulteriormente il contenuto formale con qualcosa di sostanziale. Ma non immediatamente visibile agli occhi.

Tralasciando volutamente il valore simbolico degli abiti e degli accessori, conviene fermarsi a indagare il rapporto che lega la moda a quel concetto ampio di spiritualità di cui fanno parte tanto le credenze religiose che le superstizioni, le stesse che hanno accompagnato l’essere umano fin dalle sue origini. E che ancora oggi guidano la mano dei couturier dove la simbologia ispirazionale diventa un vero e proprio codice capace di farsi trend. Ma con l’anima. A cominciare dalla notte dei tempi, ovviamente, quando la sopracitata tunica di pelle che il Signore donò ai nostri progenitori per coprirne le nudità peccaminose altro non sarebbe che un rivestimento divino capace di ricordare all’uomo la sua possibilità di salvezza, al netto della sua natura umana. Un abito che protegge il pudore e che al contempo custodisce il mistero di una nudità nella quale si annida l’umanità più autentica di ciascuno, in estrema sintesi. È

facile capire come la storia d’amore tra la moda e il soprannaturale affondi le sue radici in un gioco di associazioni che, dalla religione, si tuffa direttamente in un mistero di cui le donne stesse sono le vestali. Il perché è semplice. La natura femminile, complessa e indecifrabile, inaccessibile e inspiegabile, affascinava e respingeva in virtù proprio della sua essenza che nel Medioevo aveva trovato la sua cornice deputata, in cui le donne, subdole incantatrici e streghe potenti, utilizzavano anche ciò che indossavano come veicolo del loro forte potere individuale e personale. Un mezzo di espressione attraverso cui poter affermare di essere, oltre che di apparire. E, anche, un espediente per rafforzare scelte politiche e sociali che ne amplificavano la potenza. Lo sapeva bene Elisabetta I che, ben lungi dall’essere una fattucchiera- anche se le immagini ieratiche che la storia ci ha consegnato la rendono simile a un essere dell’altro mondo –, piegava quello che indossava a manifesto di una diversità, la sua, che aveva del sovrannaturale. La rigidezza dei suoi abiti così simili a delle armature, il tripudio di perle che ne sottolineavano l’anima verginea e pura, financo il candore della sua pelle erano tutti strumenti di cui la regina si serviva, proprio come un mago, per indirizzare l’attenzione dei suoi sudditi creando un artificio magico in cui la fantasia e la realtà andavano tranquillamente a braccetto.

Non sorprende quindi che quell’interesse per l’irrazionalità confluito, nei secoli e in particolare in epoca vittoriana, in una vera e propria passione per l’occulto e per l’astrologia abbia sedotto senza possibilità di scampo la moda stessa regalando agli abiti una sorta di potere mistico e, perché no?, quasi taumaturgico. E di riflesso i couturier, soprattutto quelli più sensibili, ne abbiano abbracciato le tematiche rimaneggiando suggestioni sovrannaturali lungo una >

linea che ha reso il binomio moda-mistero parte integrante dell’estetica fashion. Tra tarocchi e numeri portafortuna, specchi rotti e cartomanti, la storia della maison Dior è una trama fitta di chiffon e superstizione, cucita in maniera magistrale dallo stesso Monsieur Christian Dior, stregato dall’occultismo, la cui esistenza stessa è indissolubilmente connessa alle pratiche mistiche e al loro impiego nella moda. Cucire rami di mughetto negli abiti perché fossero di buon auspicio; consultare una chiromante ogni qualvolta creava una collezione; affidare ai tarocchi i giudizi sulle sue creazioni o far ruotare tutto intorno ai suoi numeri portafortuna sono aspetti chiave per comprendere la portata- non solo estetica- di uno stilista leggendario la cui fama, manco a dirsi, era scritta nelle stelle. E i successori di Christian Dior hanno omaggiato a più riprese la sua ossessione per l’occulto traducendola in collezioni volutamente simboliche che, da John Galliano arrivano direttamente alla rilettura dell’immaginario tarocco e numerologico di Maria Grazia Chiuri, condito, ça va sans dire, dal suo riconoscibile tocco femminista.

Tra armonia e superstizione, la storia di Dior resta un inno al futuro, alla divinazione di un domani rivolto alla scoperta dei misteri che muovono la bellezza, in primis dell’abito, in una lezione che, all’epoca del fondatore della maison, un’altra couturière aveva fatto sua. Perché anche il destino di Elsa Schiaparelli era scritto in una costellazione, quella del Grande Carro che lo zio, noto astrologo, aveva osservato nel disegno che i nei formavano sulla guancia sinistra della nipote alla sua nascita e che, autentico porte-bonheur, lei stessa elesse a simbolo feticcio del suo immaginario ricco di declinazioni astrologiche. La sua creatività surrealista piegò più volte la mistica degli astri a decoro dei suoi capi- amuleto, spaziando da costellazioni a mappe astrali, da lune crescenti a segni zodiacali, dando vita a motivi ancestrali in salsa couture che, da quel momento, fecero parte a tutti gli effetti di una visione estetica il cui potere taumaturgico si legava a logiche squisitamente fashion. Il fascino indiscutibile di Coco Chanel non prescindeva dal suo segno zodiacale, il Leone, per il quale Mademoiselle aveva un’ossessione che l’accompagnò per tutta la vita. Lo citava ovunque: impresso sui bottoni delle sue giacche in tweed, usato come fermaglio delle sue borse e perfino come soprammobile del suo appartamento al numero 31 di rue Cambon, il felino era la perfetta rappresentazione della sua forza prorompente e anche adesso è una delle ispirazioni più care che suggellano l’estetica della maison. E il fatto che proprio nell’astrologia si ritrovi immutato ancora oggi quel pa-

trimonio di credenze e di superstizioni che ha attraversato i secoli, rende il suo love affair con la moda ancora più pregno di mistero.

Stilisti e brand hanno fatto appello al fascino imperscrutabile di arti divinatorie&co per infondere un’aura magica alle loro collezioni (Valentino, Alexander McQueen, la stessa Prada) o hanno giocato con l’estetica astrologica usandola come divertissement (Vetements, Marcelo Burlon). Perché tutto è un segno e tutto ha un senso nel mistero che nasconde la moda (e viceversa). Perché dietro merletti preziosi, nelle lunghe gonne avvolgenti, celato in ricami sapienti c’è un patrimonio introspettivo unico in cui la creatività stilistica si unisce a un confortante sovrannaturale che diventa un veicolo essenziale per comprendere la nostra identità e il mondo in cui – e come – viviamo. E, naturalmente, decidiamo di abbigliarci.

It is commonly known that fashion is magic, especially for those who use it. Because it attracts like a magnet, because it envelops you with its load of beauty and promises and because it makes you dream. Especially when you don’t exactly live in happy times, it helps to exorcise fear with aesthetics, but not just that. Since its origins - that is to say with the tunic that God put on the pudenda of Adam and Eve - fashion has never stopped flirting with the mystery, following that characteristic that exquisitely belongs to its essence where a symbolism rich in meanings that transcends the visible - albeit beautiful and wrapped in crinolines - can serenely be traced back to a sensitive dimension very similar to esotericism tout court. And as such, capable of further enriching its formal content with something substantial. But not immediately visible to the eye.

Deliberately leaving out the symbolic value of clothes and accessories, it is better to stop and investigate the relationship that binds fashion to that broad concept of spirituality which includes both religious beliefs and superstitions, the same ones that have accompanied the human being since its origins. And that still today guide the hand of the couturiers where the inspirational symbology becomes a real code capable of becoming a trend. But with the soul. Starting from the mists of time, of course, when the aforementioned tunic of skin that the Lord gave to our ancestors to cover their sinful nakedness would be nothing more than a divine covering capable of reminding man of his possibility of salvation, net of his human nature. A dress that protects abashed modesty and at the same time preserves the mystery of a nudity in which the most authentic

humanity of each one nestles, briefly said. It is easy to understand how the love story between fashion and the supernatural finds its roots in a game of associations that, from religion, plunges right into a mystery of which women are vestals themselves. The reason why is simple. The feminine nature, complex and indecipherable, inaccessible and inexplicable, fascinated and rejected by virtue of its very essence which in the Middle Ages had found its appointed frame, where women, devious enchanters and powerful witches, also used what they wore as a vehicle of their strong individual and personal power. A means of expression used to state being, as well as appearance. And, also, an expedient to strengthen political and social choices that amplified its power. Elizabeth I knew well that, far from being an enchantrèss - even if the hieratic images that history has given us make her similar to a being from another world -, she folded what she wore as a manifest of her diversity, which was supernatural. The stiffness of her clothes so similar to armours, the riot of pearls that emphasised her virgin and pure soul, even the whiteness of her skin were all tools that the queen used, just like a magician, to direct her attention of her subjects, creating a magical artifice in which fantasy and reality went hand in hand.

It is therefore not surprising that, over the centuries and in particular in the Victorian era, the interest in irrationality merged into a real passion for the occult and astrology, seducing fashion itself without any possibility of escape, giving clothes a sort of mystic and, why not?, almost thaumaturgical power. And consequently the couturiers, especially the more sensitive ones, have embraced the themes by reworking supernatural suggestions along a line that has made the fashion-mystery combination an integral part of fashion aesthetics. Between tarot cards and lucky numbers, broken mirrors and fortune tellers, the history of the Dior house is a dense weave of chiffon and superstition, masterfully sewn by Monsieur Christian Dior himself, bewitched by occultism, whose very existence is inextricably linked to mystical practices and their use in fashion. Sew lily of the valley branches into clothes to be a good omen; consult a fortune teller whenever he created a collection; entrusting the judgments on his creations to tarot cards or making everything revolve around his lucky numbers are key aspects to understand the significance - not just aesthetics - of a legendary stylist whose fame, needless to say, was written in the stars. And the successors of Christian Dior have repeatedly paid homage to his obsession with the occult by translating it into deliberately symbolic

collections that, from John Galliano go directly to the reinterpretation of the tarot and numerological imaginary of Maria Grazia Chiuri, flavoured, ça va sans dire, whith her recognisable feminist touch.

Between harmony and superstition, the story of Dior remains a hymn to the future, to the divination of a tomorrow aimed at the discovery of the mysteries that move beauty, in the first place, of the dress, in a lesson that, at the time of the founder of the maison, another couturière had made her own. Because Elsa Schiaparelli’s destiny was also written in a constellation, that of the Big Dipper that her uncle, a well-known astrologer, had observed in the design that the beauty marks formed on his niece’s left cheek at her birth and which, authentic porte-bonheur, she herself chose as a fetish symbol of her imaginary rich in astrological declinations. Her surrealist creativity repeatedly bent the mysticism of the stars to decorate her capes - amulet, ranging from constellations to astral maps, from crescent moons to zodiac signs, giving life to ancestral motifs in a couture sauce that, from that moment, were part of all the effects of an aesthetic vision whose thaumaturgical power was tied to exquisitely fashion logics.

The indisputable charm of Coco Chanel did not ignore her zodiac sign, Leo, for which Mademoiselle had an obsession that accompanied her throughout her life. She mentioned it everywhere: imprinted on the buttons of her tweed jackets, used as a clasp on her bags and even as an ornament of her apartment at 31 rue Cambon, the feline was the perfect representation of her unbridled strength and even now it is one of the dearest inspirations that seal the aesthetics of the maison. And the fact that it is exactly in astrology that the heritage of beliefs and superstitions that has spanned the centuries is still unchanged today, fill her love affair with fashion even more with mystery. Designers and brands have appealed to the inscrutable charm of divinatory arts & co. to infuse a magical aura to their collections (Valentino, Alexander McQueen, Prada itself) or have played with astrological aesthetics using it as a divertissement (Vetements, Marcelo Burlon). Because everything is a sign and everything makes sense in the mystery that fashion hides (and vice versa). Because behind precious laces, in the long enveloping skirts, hidden in skilful embroideries, there is a unique introspective heritage in which stylistic creativity is combined with a comforting supernatural that becomes an essential vehicle for understanding our identity and the world in which - and how - we live. And we, of course, decide to dress up.

Quel gesto dà inizio alla festa, alla gioia dei momenti che contano.

Il colpo di dritto a uscire di Flavia Pennetta agli US Open del 2015 ha il sapore di quel gesto, il sigillo di una carriera, la racchetta che vola in cielo, la celebrazione che può avere inizio.

Flavia è in quel magnifico fiocco, è nella grinta dei suoi rovesci lungo linea, è nella forza di rialzarsi dopo aver sconfitto il tifo ed essersi rotta il polso due volte. You know the gesture when you close the last package of the last Christmas gift with the last ribbon? That gesture starts the party, the joy of the moments that matter.

Flavia Pennetta’s forehand shot at the 2015 US Open recalls that gesture, the seal of a career, the racket that flies into the sky. Now the celebration can begin.

Flavia is in that magnificent ribbon, she is in the determination of her longline backhand, she is in the strength to get up after defeating typhus and breaking twice her wrist. She has that beauty that does not just have to do with charm, but that captures the traits of those who have been able to fight, first of all with themselves. Of whom has been able to win and lose, and at the fateful “game, set, match” ball, has had the courage to say: “I am happy”.

She won the US Open in 2015 at the age of 33. She is the ‘oldest’ player to have ever won the first Slam in her career, as well as the second Italian to have ever won a Grand Slam tournament.

She won eleven WTA singles tournaments (including the legendary Indian Wells) climbing up the international rankings and reaching number 6 in the world, the first Italian tennis player to enter the top ten of the WTA Tour world rankings. In doubles, the first Italian ever to have reached the Nº 1 position in the world, she won seventeen WTA tournaments including a Grand Slam (Australian Open, 2011).

“You are struck by the freshness of a multicultural and multidisciplinary creativity, and at the same time by the naturalness with which the ethical and social commitment emerges in his collections. Lapo Cianchi, communication and events director of Pitti Immagine, defines the art expressed by the capsule man presented by Thebe Magugu during the hundredth edition of the Florentine event.

His fashion is constantly suspended between art and craftsmanship, education and ancestral practices. His work is an unconventional invitation to a new beginning full of young, energetic awareness.

Art and craftsmanship, tradition and avant-garde: the traits that outline his stylistic signature have guided the collaboration with Cuoio di Toscana which for the designer has created and developed a series of limited edition accessories to accompany the prêt-à-porter proposal.

A camperos model boot available in a wide range of colours and with leather branded Cuoio di Toscana, and a bag with a characteristic shape made with tanned leather from the Consortium’s tanneries.

Winner of the LVMH Award in 2019 and protagonist of a style vision marked by multiculturalism, the twenty-seven-year-old South African talent was chosen as special guest of the 100th edition of Pitti Immagine Uomo exhibition held in Florence last July.

aurizio Berchielli, titolare di Continuo, inizia l’attività di distribuzione calzature e accessori nel 1985. Nel 2003 inaugura il primo showroom a Firenze, nel 2005 a Bologna, e nel 2007 a Milano. Quali sono le 3 parole chiave che raccontano bene la vostra filosofia?

“Ricerca, tempestività e affidabilità.

Ricerca: una meditata e approfondita conoscenza del prodotto accessorio e calzature unita al consueto scouting di nuovi brand grazie agli innumerevoli viaggi all’estero da me effettuati, perlustrando fiere, negozi e strade.

Tempestività: il mio showroom è storicamente noto per la grande capacità di anticipare le richieste dei clienti. In effetti, accompagniamo i brand nel loro lancio e nella campagna vendita cercando di risolvere problematiche di ogni genere e seguendo, passo dopo passo le aziende per la creazione delle successive collezioni, riportando all’ufficio stile quanto riferiscono i nostri retailer relativamente a consensi e richieste del mercato.

Affidabilità: il mio staff è composto da giovani professionisti che operano on the road, oltre che all’interno degli showroom, garantendo il continuo contatto con la clientela e il mercato.

Le mie origini toscane mi hanno permesso di saper riconoscere alla perfezione pellami, materiali e lavorazioni, mentre la passione per la moda, insieme all’attitudine commerciale, hanno fatto maturare quella fiducia che i clienti, oggi ripongono in noi”. >

Come selezionate il vostro portafoglio marchi?

“Selezioniamo prodotti moda, con grande attenzione al design e al prezzo, senza trascurare la qualità.

Le vetrine e boutique con cui lavoriamo sono di target mediamente alto. La nostra mission è fornire loro prodotti interessanti e dai prezzi democratici, da affiancare alle prime linee”.

Come vi ha cambiato il Covid e come ha cambiato i brand che seguite?

“Non ci ha cambiato molto. Siamo sempre stati presenti con continue visite ai clienti. Abbiamo intensificato questa attività di contatto diretto per rafforzare la nostra filosofia, che ci vuole sempre al fianco dei nostri partner. Il covid non è riuscito ad arginare la mia grande curiosità di vedere le nuove collezioni e di viaggiare.

Anzi, ogni giorno, grazie alle videocall e agli incontri con i clienti, c’è stata occasione per discutere su come strutturare meglio, con un occhio al digitale, le nuove strategie marketing e promozionali richieste dal mercato italiano ed estero.

Certamente sono mancate una parte delle visite dei clienti in showroom, ma abbiamo saputo rimediare con gli strumenti digitali. Siamo diventati più flessibili ed efficienti, siamo andati incontro ai clienti per le condizioni di pagamento e con aiuti di altro tipo. Insomma, abbiamo attivato una maggiore collaborazione e presenza quotidiana, sia online che offline.

Lavorando molto con l’Italia, che è riuscita a semplificare molte contrattazioni commerciali, non abbiamo sofferto di problemi di stagnazione degli ordini, se non nel periodo circoscritto del lockdown del 2020”.

Calzatura e accessorio moda: ancora in sofferenza o vi sono segnali di ripresa?

“Riteniamo che il settore accessorio in generale abbia attualmente un buon riscontro sul mercato. Le richieste non sono diminuite in modo importante. Anzi, la borsa e la calzatura, pur avendo subito un calo del 20% in poco tempo, hanno registrato nel 2021 una consistente ripresa delle vendite”.

Quali le richieste più insistenti dei clienti?

“Maggiore mark up e prodotti emozionali. Prezzi accessibili da contrappore alle prime linee. Questi i diktat per procedere nel mercato e per riuscire a ottenere risultati brillanti e continuità con i clienti”.

Digitale: sì (come?), oppure no (perché?)

“Assolutamente sì, ritengo che il digitale possa coesistere ed essere complementare al metodo di lavoro tradizionale in presenza.

Ricordiamoci, però, che l’accessorio, più dell’abbigliamento, necessita di essere toccato con mano e osservato con l’occhio di chi pensa ai possibili abbinamenti di stile. Per questo richiede almeno una o due visite in presenza nell’arco della campagna vendita”.

Sostenibilità. Tema cruciale o sopravvalutato? “È un vantaggio parlarne e soprattutto saper raccontare i dettagli riguardanti produzione, filiera e origine. Sono elementi che oggi aiutano a vendere l’accessorio, ma in cui sarà sempre più necessario credere poiché rappresentano effettivamente il nostro futuro”.

Research: a thoughtful and in-depth knowledge of the accessory product and footwear combined with the usual scouting of new brands thanks to the countless trips I made abroad, scouring fairs, shops and streets.

Timeliness: my showroom is historically known for its great ability to anticipate customer requests. In fact, we accompany brands in

Reliability: my staff consists of young professionals who work on the road, as well as inside the showrooms, ensuring constant contact with customers and the market.

My Tuscan origins have allowed me to be able to perfectly recognise leathers, materials and workmanship, while the passion for fashion, together with the commercial attitude, have matured the trust that customers now place in us”.

Working a lot with Italy, which managed to simplify many trade negotiations, we had no issues related to stagnation in orders, except in the limited lockdown period in 2020”.

How do you select your brand portfolio?

“We select fashion products, with great attention to design and price, without neglecting quality.

The shop windows and boutiques we work with are of medium high target. Our mission is to provide them with interesting products with democratic prices, to complement the front lines”.

What are the most insistent requests from customers?

“Greater mark up and emotional products. Affordable prices as opposed to the front lines. These are the diktats to proceed in the market and to be able to obtain brilliant results and customer continuity”.

How has Covid changed you and how has it changed the brands you follow?

“It hasn’t changed us much. We have always been there with constant visits to customers. We have intensified this direct contact activity to strengthen our philosophy, which always wants us to be alongside our partners. Covid failed to contain my great curiosity to see the new collections and to travel. On the contrary, thanks to video calls and meetings with customers, every day there was an opportunity to discuss how to better structure, with an eye to digital, the new marketing and promotional strategies required by the Italian and foreign market.

We missed having some customers’ visits to the showroom, of course, but we were able to make up for it with digital tools. We have become more flexible and efficient, we have approached customers with favourable payment terms and with other types of support. In short, we have activated greater collaboration and daily presence, both online and offline.

Footwear and fashion accessory: are they still suffering or are there signs of recovery?

“We believe that the accessories sector in general is currently having a good response on the market. Requests have not decreased significantly. Indeed, the stock market and footwear, despite having suffered a 20% drop in no time, registered a substantial sales recovery in 2021”.

Digital: yes (how?), or no (why?)

“Absolutely yes, I believe that digital can coexist and be complementary to the traditional working method requiring physical presence. Let us recall, though, that accessories, more than clothing, need to be touched with the hand and observed with the eye of those who think of possible style combinations. This is why at least one or two face-to-face visits are necessary during the sales campaign”.

Sustainability. Crucial or overrated theme?

“It is an advantage to talk about it and above all to be able to tell the details regarding production, supply chain and origin. These are elements that help to sell accessories today, but in which it will be increasingly necessary to believe since they actually represent our future”.

un certo punto del suo percorso si è chiesta se sarebbe mai stato possibile unire le sue tre passioni e tirarne fuori un lavoro che desse senso al suo impegno. Ci ha riflettuto ed è giunta a una conclusione: perché in qualità di trendsetter, non sfruttare la propria visibilità per mettere insieme moda, volontariato e sostenibilità?!

Eva Geraldine Fontanelli, dopo essere stata consulente di moda etica per l’Onu, ha creato una piattaforma di prodotti sostenibili, Goooders, dove si vendono cose belle con un significato, progetti e storie positive: una comunità in crescita di viaggiatori e consumatori consapevoli.

Tre episodi che raccontano chi è Eva Geraldine Fontanelli?

“La carriera iniziata a New York, nella redazione di Elle US. Il primo viaggio in Mali con le Nazioni Unite, perché era il ponte che cercavo, tra il bello e il buono: rendere più accattivante, sul mercato, la moda sostenibile. Il primo pop up di Goooders, inaugurato a Palazzo Avino nel 2019”.

Quali sono le parole chiave della tua vita e del tuo business?

“Senza dubbio, anche se mi ripeto: bello, buono e sostenibile” Come è nato Goooders e su quale filosofia si regge?

“Goooders è una piattaforma di prodotti sostenibili dove trovi la crema organica e l’abito tie and dye della Sartoria San Vittore o i cuscini fatti sui disegni di un laboratorio di Quarto Oggiaro che lavora coi bambini in situazioni di disagio. È l’offerta di un ventaglio di possibilità per contribuire a fare del bene. Il goooder, chi partecipa alla nostra community, è il cittadino\consumatore del futuro che sa che ogni sua azione ha un impatto. Vive al ritmo dell’universo e della natura, ha cura di sé e degli altri. Goooders è nato dalla mia passione per la moda e l’estetica e la necessità di realizzare un cambiamento positivo”.

Come sceglie i brand con cui collaborare?

“Lavoro anche con brand non dichiaratamente green, cerco il goood dovunque”.

La sostenibilità è un tema molto ampio e anche scivoloso.

Come la interpreta e su quali tematiche si concentra?

“Bisogna fare dei piccoli passi e non scoraggiarsi di fronte a grandi obbiettivi. Meglio milioni di persone che provano a essere sostenibili senza esserlo perfettamente, che poche persone che lo sono totalmente e senza sbavature”.

Dal vostro osservatorio privilegiato, come vedete muoversi i consumatori all’interno del tema sostenibilità?

“Non hanno abbastanza informazioni per poter fare delle scelte consapevoli. Per questo Goooders si propone anche come piattaforma su cui reperire informazioni facilmente comprensibili”.

Qual è la sua ricetta per ‘rendere bello il buono’?

“Seguiamo quelli che si definiscono ethical values, supportiamo le communities, promuoviamo pratiche eco. Perché il buono si può creare in tanti modi diversi, a volte più semplici di quelli che pensiamo”.

Come crede si comporterà il consumatore post-Covid e come pensate di conquistarlo in futuro?

“Sarà più attento e selettivo, meno suscettibile a mode e trend, e andrà coinvolto in esperienze di valore, dovrà sentirsi importante”.

L’accelerazione verso il digitale come pensa cambierà l’approccio alla moda?

“Ci sarà accesso a sempre più informazioni. Per questo sussisterà anche un po’ più di confusione, e quindi bisognerà sviluppare identità molto forti e autentiche per poter spiccare”.

At a certain point in her career, she wondered if it would ever be possible to combine her three passions and come up with a job that would give meaning to her commitment. She thought about it and came to a conclusion: why not use her visibility as a trendsetter to combine fashion, volunteering and sustainability?!

After having been an ethical fashion consultant for the UN, Eva Geraldine Fontanelli has created a platform for sustainable products called Goooders, which sells beautiful things with a meaning, positive projects and stories. It is a growing community of conscious travellers and consumers.

Three episodes that tell us who Eva Geraldine Fontanelli is?

“My career began in New York, in the editorial staff of Elle US. My first trip to Mali with the United Nations was the bridge I was looking for, between the beautiful and the good: to make sustainable fashion more appealing on the market. The first pop-up of Goooders opened in Palazzo Avino in 2019.”

What are the key words that describe your life and business?

“Without a doubt, even if I repeat them to myself: beautiful, good and sustainable.”

How was Goooders born and what is its philosophy?

“Goooders is a platform for sustainable products where you can find organic cream and a tie and dye dress from the Sartoria San Vittore or customised cushions made by a workshop in Quarto Oggiaro that works with underprivileged children. It is a range of possibilities for contributing to doing good. The “goooder” is someone who participates in our community, a citizen/consumer of the future who knows that every action has an impact.

They live in tune with the universe and nature, they take care of themselves and of others. Goooders was born out of my passion for fashion and aesthetics and the need to make a positive change.”

How do you choose the brands you collaborate with?

“I also work with brands that are not overtly green, I look for good everywhere”.

Sustainability is a very broad and slippery topic. How do you interpret it and what issues do you focus on?

“You have to take small steps and not get discouraged by big goals.

It’s better to have millions of people trying to be sustainable without being 100% sustainable, than a few people who are flawlessly sustainable.”

From your privileged vantage point, how do you see consumers moving within the theme of sustainability?

“They don’t have enough information to make informed choices.

That’s why Goooders is also a platform where they can find information that is easy to understand.”

What is your recipe for ‘making something beautiful good’?

“We follow what are called ethical values, we support communities, we promote eco-friendly practices. Because good can be created in many different ways, sometimes its easier than we think.”

How do you think post-Covid consumers will behave and how do you plan on winning them over in the future?

“They will be more attentive and selective, less susceptible to fashions and trends, and they will have to be involved in valuable experiences. They will have to feel important.”

How do you think the acceleration towards digital will change the approach to fashion?

“There will be access to more and more information. So there will also be a bit more confusion, and therefore we will need to develop very strong and authentic identities in order to stand out.”

S

iamo rimasti appesi a un filo che ancora non si è del tutto spezzato, in questo difficile anno e mezzo. Un filo che ora ricerca i suoi nodi, le sue certezze. Con la Haute Couture ritrova le sfilate dal vivo e con Maria Grazia Chiuri ritrova la primigenia ragion d’essere della moda: realizzare identità che si indossano. E se «la Haute Couture non può essere anacronistica», come ritiene la stilista, allora risulta fondamentale recuperare l’arte quasi sacra di chi sa tessere magnificenza con quello stesso fragile filo, e al tempo stesso il gusto di impunturare il quotidiano con quella grazia.

Metafora del bisogno che ora ci si agita dentro, ben espresso anche dal giardino del Musée Rodin in rue de Varenne a Parigi, rivestito dall’artista Eva Jospin che, su una superficie di 350 metri quadrati, ha ricamato con filo di seta i soggetti indiani di una stanza di Palazzo Colonna a Roma. Lì si è interrotto il maleficio e la bellezza è tornata a brillare. >

We have been hanging by a thread that has not yet been completely broken in this difficult year and a half. A thread that is now looking for its knots, its certainties. With Haute Couture, it rediscovers live fashion shows and with Maria Grazia Chiuri, it rediscovers fashion’s original raison d’etre: to create identities that can be worn. And if “Haute Couture cannot be anachronistic”, as the designer believes, then it is essential to recover the almost sacred art of those who know how to weave magnificence with that same fragile thread, and at the same time the taste for stitching everyday life with that grace. A metaphor for the need that now stirs within us, well expressed by the garden of Musée Rodin in Rue de Varenne, Paris, decorated by Eva Jospin who, on an area of 350 square meters, has embroidered with silk thread the Indian subjects of a hall in Rome’s Palazzo Colonna. The curse was broken there, and beauty shone through again.

Lyubomir Dochev On the hunt for that invisible aura that makes us unique

“

Penso che ognuno di noi sia venuto sulla Madre Terra con uno scopo ed io ho avuto la fortuna di scoprire il mio fin da quando ero bambino: dedicarmi all’arte”. Nato e cresciuto in Bulgaria, autodidatta, Lyubomir Dochev ha saputo trasformare la sua passione per l’arte in una professione, condividendo attraverso i social media il suo grande talento e attirando l’attenzione del pubblico e di diverse celebrities.

L’ispirazione gli arriva dai luoghi più inaspettati e dalle persone in generale, ciascuna con la propria unicità…”basta stare con gli occhi e il cuore ben aperti” - afferma.

Nel suo percorso artistico ha utilizzato molte tecniche diverse e molti stili, fino a quando non ha trovato il proprio stile, che lo caratterizza e lo differenzia da tutti gli altri. “Ho iniziato realizzando dei ritratti realistici, ma ben presto mi sono accorto che mi annoiava ricreare l’immagine esattamente com’era. Al contempo, sono sempre stato affascinato dalle illustrazioni e dal design di moda e così, passo dopo passo, i miei disegni hanno finito col trasformarsi nelle creazioni che realizzo oggi e che mi danno la libertà creativa di esprimere come vedo le persone e il loro stile”. Ogni sua opera inizia con un semplice schizzo e si completa con quell’aura caratteristica che brilla intorno alla figura e che la caratterizza, rendendola inconfondibile. “Mi piace mostrare quell’energia invisibile che ogni persona ha intorno a sé e che la rende unica”.

“I believe that each one of us arrives on Mother Earth with a special purpose and I had the fortune of discovering mine at any early age when I decided to dedicate myself to art”. Born and raised in Bulgaria and self-taught, Lyubomir Dochev knew how to transform his passion for art into a career, by sharing his great talent through social media and attracting the attention of the general public and various celebrities. His inspiration arrives from the most unexpected places and from the unique characteristics inherent in each person… “all you have to do is keep your eyes and heart wide open” – he confirms.

In his artistic pathway, he used many different techniques and styles, until he discovered his very own style, which characterises his looks and makes him stand out from others. “I started by creating realistic portraits, but soon realized that I was bored with the idea of recreating an image exactly how it was. At the same time, I have always been extremely interested in illustrations and fashion design and so, step-by-step, my designs were transformed into the creations I make today, giving me the creative freedom to express how I see people and their styles”. Each one of his works begins with a simple sketch and is completed by a special aura that lights up and defines his muse, making her one-of-a-kind. “I like to show that invisible energy surrounding each person and making them unique”.

er la quarta volta MICAM Milano promuove 12 designer di calzature internazionali emergenti con un’area evento dedicata interamente a loro all’interno dei padiglioni della manifestazione.

Dura la selezione dei partecipanti che sono stati scelti con criteri innovativi pensati in collaborazione con la società Honegger. Per valutare le candidature dei designers, infatti, si è costituita una giuria di esperti del settore moda e comunicazione, presieduta dallo stilista Ernesto Esposito, che per il contest 2020 ha coinvolto: Eva Geraldine Fontanelli (Former EAL Vanity Fair e Elle Magazine), Mauro Galligari (Fondatore e CEO StudioZeta Showroom), Angelo Lanza (Fotografo e AF.MAG Art Director), Maximilian Linz (Fashion Talent Scout & PR) e Riccardo Slavik (Stylist, Fashion Editor, Writer). A ognuno di questi professionisti è stato chiesto di indicare i percorsi che la moda sta imboccando, in base alla propria esperienza lavorativa, e a partire da tale consapevolezza effettuare una selezione ponderata dei 12 designer da presentare in fiera.

Per Tommaso Cancellara, CEO Micam e General Manager Assocalzaturifici, il progetto Emerging Designer “è importantissimo e assolutamente strategico per il futuro della nostra manifestazione e dell’industria. Siamo orgogliosi di poter dire che riceviamo richieste da tutto il mondo per far parte di questa importante vetrina dedicata ai giovani designer. Faccio parte anch’io della giuria, ho visto tutti i finalisti, ho visto chi poi è arrivato a essere uno dei 12 prescelti per esporre in fiera e posso dire con orgoglio che siamo arrivati a un livello veramente importante e molto elevato di proposte e di marchi”. Per il Designer Ernesto Esposito “la selezione è stata lunga e faticosa, come al solito, ma, mai come questa volta, così fruttuosa.

A volte dai terreni più aridi nascono i fiori più belli, lo sapete.

Noi siamo pronti a stupirvi con talenti provenienti da Paesi inesplorati che si aggiungono a quelli più noti delle passate edizioni. La forza del MICAM è anche questa, di cercare le persone giuste al momento giusto, ed è anche il motivo per cui è nato Emerging Designers”.

For the fourth time MICAM Milano promotes 12 emerging international footwear designers with an event area entirely dedicated to them within the exhibition halls.

The selection of the participants is tough. They have been chosen with innovative criteria created in collaboration with the Honegger company. In fact, to evaluate the designers’ candidacies, a jury of experts in the fashion and communication sector was set up, chaired by the stylist Ernesto Esposito, who for the 2020 contest involved: Eva Geraldine Fontanelli (Former EAL Vanity Fair and Elle Magazine), Mauro Galligari (Founder and CEO StudioZeta Showroom), Angelo Lanza (Photographer and AF.MAG Art Director), Maximilian Linz (Fashion Talent Scout & PR) and Riccardo Slavik (Stylist, Fashion Editor, Writer). “Equilibrium mania”

U

na formazione multidisciplinare i cui vari strati culturali di arte, architettura, economia e design sono evidenti nel prodotto che realizza Alessandra Balbi.

Dopo diversi anni di esperienza come designer e architetto d’interni, nel 2017 la designer decide di lanciare il suo marchio di calzature di lusso e di incanalare il suo background multiforme in un prodotto che riflette la parte più femminile e più autentica di se stessa, realizzato a mano in Italia da artigiani veneziani della Riviera del Brenta.

A multidisciplinary training whose various cultural layers of art, architecture, economics and design are evident in the product that Alessandra Balbi creates.

After several years of experience as a designer and interior architect, in 2017 the designer decided to launch her luxury footwear brand and channel her multifaceted background into a product that reflects the most feminine and most authentic part of herself, handmade in Italy by Venetian artisans coming from the Brenta Riviera.

MMABILE è un marchio che ha preso vita nel 2018 grazie alla creatività della stilista Rafaela Zago con l’idea di sviluppare un marchio di lusso e sostenibile.

“Amabile era il nome della mia bisnonna. Sono rimasta incantata da quel nome e ho voluto onorarla”, racconta la designer. Creazioni in pelle realizzate a mano, dal disegno, alla pittura stessa della pelle, alla fabbricazione. Il processo artigianale conferisce altissima qualità e aggiunge un piacevole tocco di unicità. “Amo le creazioni artigianali in cui l’intero processo di produzione è speciale e unico, per questo utilizzo magnifiche pelli esotiche sostenibili”.

“Dream of a summer night”

J

erelyn è nata in India e si è trasferita nel Regno Unito per frequentare un master. Dopo aver lavorato nel settore degli eventi per alcuni anni ha trovato la sua vera vocazione e alla fine si è trasferita in Italia dove ha studiato modelleria per calzature e design di scarpe ad Arsutoria School a Milano.

Ora produce la sua collezione fra Italia e Spagna. Le sue creazioni sono realizzate in pelle pregiata e ogni scarpa è progettata e realizzata con un design talmente unico che la sua prima collezione, dedicata a tutte le donne forti e amorevoli della sua vita, è stata prodotta in numero limitato, per assicurare estrema esclusività.

Jerelyn was born in India and moved to the UK to pursue a masters degree. After working in the events industry for a few years she found her true calling and then moved to Milan, Italy where she studied shoe pattern making and shoe design at Arsutoria School in Milan.

She produces her own collection now between Italy and Spain. Her creations are made of fine leather and each shoe is designed and crafted with such a unique design that her first collection, dedicated to all the strong and loving women in her life, was produced in limited numbers, to ensure absolute exclusivity.

Nasce a Karachi, in una famiglia numerosa, in cui storia e tradizione contavano davvero. La passione di Meher Kakalia per la moda oscillava tra i sari ricamati a mano e le splendide scarpe della nonna. È cresciuta con l’amore per i viaggi e la bellezza delle storie che la gente racconta. Tutte questi suoi interessi si ritrovano nello spirito delle sue collezioni.

La sua idea è quella di tornare alle radici della sua cultura e reinterpretare le vecchie tradizioni attraverso articoli di moda. Ha aperto il suo laboratorio a Karachi con artigiani creativi, calzolai e ricamatori. Meher crede in un approccio sostenibile alla produzione e alla costruzione di un marchio. Così, ha deciso di lavorare con donne ricamatrici e permettere loro di lavorare da casa.

She was born in Karachi, into a large family, where history and tradition really mattered. Meher Kakalia’s passion for fashion fluctuated between her hand-embroidered saris and her grandmother’s gorgeous shoes. She grew up with a love of travelling and the beauty of the stories people tell. All these interests of her are found in the spirit of her collections.

Her idea is to go back to the roots of her culture and reinterpret old traditions through fashion items.

She opened her own workshop in Karachi with creative craftsmen, shoemakers and embroiderers. Meher believes in a sustainable approach to manufacturing and building a brand. She thus decided to work with women embroiderers allowing them to work from home.

Gabriela Machado / MOMOC SPAIN

“Graphic chic”

L

a storia inizia nel 2016. Gabriela Machado lavorava come consulente fiscale per una società in Lussemburgo, quando decise di prendersi qualche mese di congedo non retribuito per lavorare in una fattoria biologica in Nuova Zelanda. Lì impara tutto sull’economia circolare e scopre uno stile di vita completamente nuovo. Così fonda il suo brand e inizia a indagare i materiali sostenibili producendo le sue collezioni in Spagna, a Elda (Alicante). Il principale valore aggiunto di Momoc? Materiali riciclati e sostenibili (cotone e poliestere riciclati, pneumatici riciclati per la suola, legno riciclato per i rinforzi, e microfibra ecologica e traspirante priva di cromo per la fodera e la soletta) e, naturalmente, un design originale.

Her story begins in 2016. Gabriela Machado was working as a tax consultant for a company in Luxembourg when she decided to take a few months of unpaid leave to work on an organic farm in New Zealand. There she learns all about the circular economy and discovers a completely new lifestyle.

So she founds her own brand and begins to investigate sustainable materials by producing her collections in Elda (Alicante), Spain.

What is Momoc’s main added value? Recycled and sustainable materials (recycled cotton and polyester, recycled tires for the sole, recycled wood for the reinforcements, and ecological and breathable chromium-free microfibre for the lining and insole) and, of course, an original design.

“Make it fun”

KUA è il marchio fondato da due donne olandesi, Naomi & Anousjka, che ha mostrato le sue prime creazioni durante la settimana della moda di Milano SS19, per poi finire (con le loro collaborazioni) sulle passerelle di Berlino, Amsterdam e Parigi. Nel 2020 hanno creato la collezione Chayka, ispirata alle donne dell’era spaziale. Tutto è iniziato con la russa Valentina Tereškova, prima donna ad andare nello spazio: il suo nome in codice durante la missione era Chayka. La collezione Chayka sarà la prima produzione locale fatta a mano di SKUA Studio. La loro aspirazione è produrre nei Paesi Bassi per mantenere e migliorare la conoscenza dell’artigianato calzaturiero locale.

SKUA is the brand founded by two Dutch women, Naomi & Anousjka. Their first creations were shown during Milan fashion week SS19, before ending (with their collaborations) on the runways of Berlin, Amsterdam and Paris.

In 2020 they created the Chayka collection, inspired by women of the space age. It all started with the Russian Valentina Tereškova, the first woman to go into space: her code name during her mission was Chayka.

The Chayka collection will be SKUA Studio’s first hand-made local production.

Their aspiration is to produce in the Netherlands to maintain and improve the knowledge of the local shoe craftsmanship.

hushini Fernando è nata a Kandy, la capitale spirituale dello Sri Lanka. Da piccola ha subito mostrato la sua sensibilità estetica e la sua naturale creatività, avvicinandosi alla moda fin dall’adolescenza. Dopo la laurea si trasferisce a Milano dove frequenta un corso triennale all’Istituto Moda Burgo, ottenendo il massimo dei voti con un saggio sull’artigianato italiano. Uno stage importante presso Calvin Klein completa la sua formazione e la convince a fondare il suo brand. “It doesn’t take much”

opo aver completato un master in farmacia, Titi, cresciuta tra Lagos e Londra, decide di esprimere il suo io più profondo attraverso il design. Dopo i corsi al London College of Fashion’s Cordwainers, lavora per 2 anni con i migliori artigiani italiani per capire ogni aspetto della produzione calzaturiera. Realizzate a mano a Milano, le calzature Titi Adesa sono create per una donna contemporanea giovanile. Il marchio, lanciato nel 2019, ha partorito anche la ‘TA Foundation’ che mira a dare potere alle giovani ragazze delle comunità in Africa che aspirano a costruire carriere nell’industria creativa, attraverso la sponsorizzazione educativa e la mentorship.

After completing a masters degree in pharmacy, Titi, who grew up between Lagos and London, decides to express her deepest self through design. After the courses at the London College of Fashion’s Cordwainers, she works for 2 years with the best Italian artisans to understand every aspect of footwear production.

Handmade in Milan, Titi Adesa shoes are created for a contemporary young woman.

The brand, launched in 2019, also gave birth to the ‘TA Foundation’ which aims to empower young girls from communities in Africa who aspire to build careers in the creative industry, through educational sponsorship and mentorship.

La marca combina il know how tessile del Burkina Faso e quello portoghese nella fabbricazione di scarpe.

Tra tradizione e modernità. Oltre a promuovere l’artigianato, Umòja mette la sostenibilità al centro delle sue collezioni. Vengono privilegiati i materiali naturali: cotone organico, tessuti ricavati dalla corteccia degli alberi, tinture minerali e vegetali. Tutti materiali prodotti localmente tra Uganda e Burkina Faso da piccole comunità.

The brand combines textile know how of Burkino Faso and the Portuguese one in shoe manufacturing, between tradition and modernity.

o avranno detto ai propri music specialist tutti i brand che sono riusciti effettivamente a sfilare in passerella durante la Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture, autunno inverno 2021/2022: alza il volume! Ma, a ben vedere, pare lo abbiano detto fra sè e sè anche i designer che, per quanto riguarda le calzature proseguono nel generare volumi molto generosi e architettare suole dal fortissimo impatto visivo. C’è anche l’eleganza del tacco a spillo, la borsetta contenuta nelle dimensioni, quasi da bambola, e accenni di materiali caldi e avvolgenti. In ogni caso: alzate il volume!

All the brands that actually managed to make it onto the runway during Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture, Autumn-Winter 2021/2022 will have said to their music technicians: turn up the volume! But then again, it seems as though the designers also said it to themselves and, as far as shoes are concerned, continue to generate very large volumes and design soles with a strong visual impact. La perla delle Dolomiti, adagiata tra il Veneto e l’Alto Adige, è, storicamente, una realtà a sé stante: nessuna come lei, mitica e mitizzata dai cromatismi pastello delle sue cime, da sempre è meta cult per gli appassionati di sport invernali e buen retiro per chi vuole immergersi nella natura.

Amata dagli Asburgo e dai Savoia, capace di incantare Hemingway prima e la mondanità più abbagliante poi, la sua storia è parte di quella d’Italia e delle sue famiglie più rappresentative che hanno fatto di lei e della Valle del Boite il centro prezioso della loro dimensione extraurbana. immi che sei in montagna senza dirmi che sei in montagna. Quello che potrebbe sembrare un divertissement social, riassume perfettamente gli highlights di uno stile che, dai monti, è arrivato in tutto il mondo, e in particolare nelle città, scendendo nelle strade semplicemente camminando. Perché si sa, comincia tutto da quello che si porta ai piedi. Che è perfetto in alta quota, ma iconico in città, tanto da essere stato sdoganato dalle tendenze degli ultimi decenni diventando un imprescindibile di ogni look. Stiamo parlando, naturalmente, degli hiking boots, quegli stivaletti da montagna con lacci in corda e suola con carrarmato in gomma creati originariamente per camminare su terreni impervi e proteggere dalle intemperie, che hanno abbandonato le logiche del trekking per finire fotografati ai piedi di rockstar e di influencer di ogni latitudine. Ma anche, e soprattutto, della gente comune. Il perché è evidente: sono calzature pratiche, comode, talmente versatili da superare i natali outdoor per diventare oggetti del desiderio di ogni fashionista che si rispetti. E tutto all’insegna di quell’Alpine vibes che, complice il distanziamento sociale e il piacere di immergersi nella natura, è sempre più un diktat. Anche in fatto di look.

Non poteva immaginarlo Sidney Swartz quando, nel 1973, in una sperduta località del New Hampshire, progettò e confezionò uno scarponcino in pelle nubuck impermeabile pensato per poter resistere agli inverni rigidi e innevati del New England. I suoi contem-

poranei risero di quelle scarpe gialle che non lasciavano penetrare l’acqua grazie alla tecnologia innovativa di fusione della tomaia alla suola. Ma a torto. Perché gli scarponcini da taglialegna, gli Yellow Boot, fecero da volano al successo di Timberland, questo il nome dell’azienda, al di là e al di qua dell’oceano. Perché se negli States gli artisti hip hop li elessero a statement rendendoli parte della loro divisa, fu in Europa, e in particolare in Italia, che queste scarpe divennero, negli anni 80, il simbolo chiave di una generazione che amava il Made in Usa sopra ogni cosa, ovvero i Paninari milanesi.

L’umile stivale giallo era diventato un’icona e, come tale, destinato a piegarsi a mille declinazioni differenti e a fare proseliti, contribuendo a rendere il mood montano un cult anche lontano dalle vette innevate, e gli hiking boots primi della lista delle scarpe must have di ogni stagione. Accanto alle varianti very active capaci di coniugare il tocco mountain ad attitudini urbane e molto underground, come il classico River di Lumberjack nato proprio dalla fascinazione per la natura sterminata del Nord America, hanno trovato spazio gli scarponcini da trekking diventati feticcio dello streetstyle firmati Acne Studios, passando per le varianti fashioniste (e furry) made in Chanel e le innumerevoli combinazioni nate da co-lab deluxe, come quella della stessa Timberland con Off-White e quella, ultima in ordine di tempo, con Bape. Il risultato, al netto di tutto, non cambia, perché, ne siamo certi, questa scarpa continuerà a scalare le vette dello stile invernale per raggiungere sempre nuove altezze.

Tell me that you are in the mountains without telling me that you are in the mountains. What might seem like social amusement perfectly summarises the highlights of a style that, from the mountains, has reached the whole world and, in particular, the cities, taking to the streets simply by walking. Because we all know that all starts with what you wear on your feet. Which is perfect at high altitudes, but iconic in the city, so much that it has been cleared by the trends of recent decades, becoming essential in every look. We are talking, of course, about hiking boots, those mountain boots with rope laces and rubber tank sole originally created to walk on rough terrain to protect you from bad weather, which have abandoned the logic of trekking to end up being photographed on the feet of rock stars and influencers worldwide. But also, and above all, of ordinary people.

The reason is obvious: these boots are practical and comfortable, so versatile that they surpass the outdoor origins to become objects of desire for every self-respecting fashionist. And all in the name of that Alpine vibe which, thanks to physical distancing and the pleasure of immersing oneself in nature, sounds ever more like a diktat.

Sidney Swartz could not have imagined it when, in 1973, in a remote New Hampshire town, he designed and manufactured a waterproof nubuck leather boot designed to withstand the harsh and snowy winters of New England. His contemporaries laughed at those yellow shoes that did not let water penetrate thanks to the innovative technology of fixing the sole to the upper. But they were wrong.

Because woodcutter’s boots, the Yellow Boots, were the driving force behind the success of Timberland, this is the name of the company, on both sides of the ocean. Because if in the United States hip hop artists elected them as statements making them part of their uniform, it was in Europe, and in particular in Italy, that these shoes became, in the 80s, the key symbol of a generation that loved Made in the USA items above everything, namely the Paninaris of Milan. The humble yellow boot had become an icon and, as such, it was destined to become versatile and make proselytes, contributing to making the mountain mood a cult even away from the snowy peaks, and hiking boots first on the list of each season’s must-haves. Alongside the very active variants capable of combining the mountain touch with urban and very underground attitudes, such as the classic River by Lumberjack born from the fascination for the boundless nature of North America, the Acne Studios trekking boots have found space, which have become a street style fetish passing through the fashionist (and furry) variants made by Chanel and the countless combinations born from deluxe co-labs, such as that of Timberland itself with Off-White and the one, last in order of time, with Bape. The result, net of everything, does not change, because, we are certain, this shoe will continue to climb the heights of winter style to always reach new heights.

Ne parla Daniela Kraler che, con il marito Franz e il figlio Alexander, gestisce i luxury multibrand store Franz Kraler tra Cortina, Dobbiaco e Bolzano che, in 35 anni, sono diventati punto di riferimento per i fashion addicted di tutto il mondo.

Come si diventa Franz Kraler?

“Tutto nasce dalla passione, per il lusso ma non solo. Alla fine degli anni 70 Franz aprì un negozio di articoli sportivi legati al free wear ma dall’anima artigiana: pezzi unici, che si trovavano solo nella vetrina di Dobbiaco, realizzati dalle maestranze della zona. Lo incontrai mentre ero lì in vacanza e da quel momento non lo lasciai più, condividendo con lui un progetto di vita e di lavoro che ha nella comune passione per il bello la sua forza e il suo successo. Dalla dependance del Grand Hotel Dobbiaco, storica residenza dell’imperatore asburgico Francesco Giuseppe, in cui aprimmo il primo negozio, fino agli altri store che sono seguiti, l’idea è sempre stata quella di creare ambienti unici in dialogo con il territorio, con la moda e con l’arte ma sempre improntati a quella celebrazione della bellezza a tutto tondo che fa la differenza”.

Come definirebbe l’esperienza di acquisto nelle vostre boutique?

“Cuore della shopping experience firmata Franz Kraler sono gli sto-

re: spazi polifunzionali e ricchi di declinazioni, concepiti non solo per la vendita ma come luoghi di relax in cui godere di momenti unici e avvolgenti. Il benessere e la soddisfazione dei nostri clienti sono da sempre cardine della nostra attività imprenditoriale, sublimata dall’inclinazione all’ospitalità dal sapore tipicamente altoatesino e declinata in ambienti che trascendono il classico negozio per arricchirsi di aree particolari - dalla nursery alla stube, alla sala da thè – che fanno sentire chiunque entri come a casa propria”.

Una valorizzazione del territorio che passa anche dalla moda…

“Valorizzare il territorio è una scelta di cuore e di testa: abbiamo creduto nel territorio, costruito e fatto nel territorio e per il territorio che, per noi, è la cifra di tutto. E questo si amplifica nei prodotti in cui esplode il dna ampezzano e la sua valorizzazione, sia in quelle capsule create ad hoc dalle grandi firme (Fendi, Dior, Loro Piana…), sia nei capi che noi stessi ideiamo e produciamo - i loden, il tabarro, le pedule - che rappresentano ed esaltano questo profondo legame con la nostra terra d’origine”.

Cos’è il lusso e la sua fruizione nel territorio?

“Per me lusso equivale a prendersi cura di sé a 360 gradi, dedicarsi a qualcosa di bello e, nella meravigliosa cornice della natura ampezzana, questo trova la sua perfetta sublimazione. Certo, ci ho messo del mio: volevo che l’approccio al lusso avesse quel carattere slow fatto di incontri, di attenzione, di dettagli in cui si potesse godere di quel racconto di moda che abbiamo cominciato qui. Così sono nati i nostri store, così le grandi firme hanno scelto noi e i nostri spazi per esprimersi al meglio”. >

Dai negozi fisici all’online, ma sempre con il territorio nel cuore…

“Esattamente. Noi siamo diventati punto di riferimento per il territorio ed è anche grazie a noi se lo stesso territorio è diventato un’eccellenza nel mondo. Per continuare a farlo, soprattutto a causa dell’emergenza sanitaria, abbiamo deciso di aprire una piattaforma e-commerce che rispecchiasse in tutto e per tutto le nostre boutique fisiche. Dalla qualità dei servizi alla selezione dei capi, anche il nostro negozio online è piena espressione del nostro amore per il territorio. Da poter godere ovunque”.

Come cambierà il retail dopo la pandemia?

“Cambierà necessariamente il ritmo di fruizione della moda, che dovrà essere più lento e umano, e più incentrato su un rapporto personalizzato con il cliente. Che, poi, è da sempre il segreto del nostro successo e parte del nostro dna: l’attenzione amorevole che abbiamo nei suoi confronti. Che non cambierà mai e che, come sempre, guiderà i cambiamenti che potranno avvenire, ma che non interferiranno con la nostra essenza che prevede il cliente al centro di tutto”.

How do you become Franz Kraler?

“Everything comes from passion for luxury but not only. At the end of the 1970s, Franz opened a sporting goods shop related to free wear but with an artisan soul: unique pieces, which could only be found in the Dobbiaco window, made by local workers. I met him while I was there on vacation and from that moment I never left him, sharing with him a life and work project that has its strength and success in the common passion for beauty. From the annex of the Grand Hotel Dobbiaco, the historic residence of the Habsburg emperor Franz Joseph, where we opened the first shop, to the other stores that followed, the idea has always been to create unique environments in dialogue with the territory, with the fashion and art but always based on that all-round celebration of beauty that makes the difference”.

How would you define the shopping experience in your boutiques?

“The stores represent the heart of the shopping experience signed

by Franz Kraler: multifunctional spaces rich in variations, not just conceived for sales but as places for relaxation where to enjoy unique and comfortable moments. The well-being and satisfaction of our customers have always been the cornerstone of our entrepreneurial activity, sublimated by the typical and genuine South Tyrolean hospitality and featuring environments that transcend the classic shop to be enriched with particular areas - from the nursery to the stube and tea room - which make anyone who enters feel right at home”.

An enhancement of the territory that also passes through fashion…

“Enhancing the territory is a choice of heart and mind: we believed in the territory, built and made in the territory and for the territory which, for us, is the key to everything. And this is amplified in the products in which the Ampezzo DNA and its enhancement explode, both in those capsules created ad hoc by the big names (Fendi, Dior, Loro Piana...) and in the garments that we design and produce ourselves - the loden, the cloak, the shoes - which represent and enhance this deep bond with our homeland”.

What is luxury and its use in the territory?

“To me, luxury means taking care of yourself at 360 degrees, engaging in something beautiful and this finds its perfect sublimation in the wonderful setting of the Ampezzo nature. I, of course, put my own in it: I wanted the approach to luxury to have that slow character made up of encounters, attention, details in which you could enjoy that fashion story that we started here. This is how our stores were born, so the big names have chosen us and our spaces to express themselves at their best”.

From physical to online stores, but always with the territory in the heart…

“Exactly. We have become a point of reference for the area and it is also thanks to us that the area itself has become an excellence in the

world. To continue to do so, especially due to the health emergency, we decided to open an e-commerce platform that would reflect in all respects our physical boutiques. From the quality of services to the selection of garments, our online store is also the full expression of our love for the territory. You can enjoy it anywhere”.

How will retail change after the pandemic?

“The pace of fashion fruition will necessarily change, which will have to be slower and more human and increasingly focused on a personalised relationship with the customer. After all, this has always been the secret of our success and part of our DNA: the loving attention we have towards it. It will never change and, as always, guide the changes that may occur, but without interfering with our essence which places the customer at the centre of everything”.

Il panorama online è sempre più complicato e competitivo: dove il mondo Google ed i social raccolgono circa il 78% del budget pubblicitario, è chiaro che c’è una concentrazione enorme di aziende in pochissimo spazio. La competizione è altissima e diventa sempre più difficile essere rilevanti nei confronti del consumatore. Da qui nasce l’esigenza di conoscere sempre meglio il consumatore, per anticiparne i bisogni, per riuscire a produrre contenuti che non riguardino solo il prodotto, ma anche il suo punto di vista, la sua interpretazione. Partendo da questi presupposti, Luisaviaroma, che è digital dal 2000 ed attualmente è presente in 40 diversi paesi, ha sviluppato un progetto sulla propria App basato sul gaming, MOD4, che si sta rivelando un fattore importante per la conversione all’acquisto. La decisione di puntare in questa direzione nasce dalla consapevolezza di dover trovare una strada alternativa per emergere rispetto a competitor on line che che hanno dimensioni e budget più consistenti rispetto a Luisaviaroma: “Ingaggiare il cliente con una modalità diversa, con il gioco, ci consente di essere molto rilevanti, perché il nostro gioco è proprio per appassionati di moda.

Come si traduce nei numeri la proposta di Luisaviaroma? “Siamo partiti worldwide a metà novembre e siamo di già a 100mila download: - risponde Nicola Antonelli - in questo momento quasi prevalentemente in Italia, perché ci piaceva vincere facile... però stiamo già lavorando per una copertura più internazionale, visto che Luisaviaroma è internazionale. el 1219, dodici frati domenicani arrivarono a Firenze da Bologna e. due anni dopo, ottennero la piccola chiesa, all’epoca fuori dalle mura cittadine, di Santa Maria delle Vigne, così chiamata per i terreni agricoli che la circondavano.

La Basilica, che oggi porta il nome di Santa Maria Novella, ha riscoperto le sue origini agresti lo scorso fine giugno, quando ha ospitato un magnifico giardino segreto di fiori, piante e alberi, nel quale ha trovato posto un’installazione scultorea di Rob Mulholland, un’orchestra strumentale e, soprattutto, la sfilata con cui il Polimoda, la rinomata scuola toscana, ha aperto la 100esima edizione di Pitti Uomo.

L’esordio di 27 giovani designer ha preso per titolo “Art Thou, Final Graduation Show”: un inno al talento e alla diversità. I migliori talenti creativi della scuola hanno interpretato il concetto espresso da Massimiliano Giornetti, direttore di Polimoda: “Art Thou (Sii te stesso).

Con queste creazioni vogliamo rispettare e promuovere le singole individualità. La rivendicazione dell’io a mostrarsi per quello che è.

Una riflessione post-moderna sulla autenticità dell’uno. La scelta del sé ad autodeterminarsi dichiarando la propria autonomia di giudizio e la propria personale libertà di espressione”.

In 1219, twelve Dominican friars arrived in Florence from Bologna and, two years later, they obtained the small church of Santa Maria delle Vigne, so called because of the farmland that surrounded it (at the time outside the city walls).

The Basilica, which is now called Santa Maria Novella, rediscovered its rural origins at the end of June, when it hosted a magnificent secret garden of flowers, plants and trees, which included a sculptural installation by Rob Mulholland, an orchestra and, above all, the fashion show by Polimoda, the renowned Tuscan school, which kicked off the 100th edition of Pitti Uomo.

The debut of 27 young designers was entitled “Art Thou, Final Graduation Show”: an ode to talent and diversity. The school’s best creative talents have interpreted the concept expressed by Massimiliano Giornetti, Director of Polimoda: “Art Thou (Be Yourself). With these creations, we want to respect and encourage individuality. The claim of the ego to show itself for what it is. A post-modern reflection on the authenticity of one. The choice of the self to determine its autonomy of judgement and its personal freedom of expression”.

il 1970. Siamo a Vigevano. Natalino Solazzo si lancia nell’avventura di fondare un’azienda, più precisamente un calzaturificio.

“Solazzo è un calzaturificio artigianale, in cui si svolgono tutte le lavorazioni con l’abilità dei vecchi maestri, tramandata da padre in figlio, per realizzare un prodotto di qualità. La gestione è familiare: ormai siamo alla seconda generazione. Ed è proprio la nostra passione a garantire la continuità in un lavoro da sempre difficile, ma meraviglioso e denso di soddisfazioni per chi, come noi, realizza scarpe per uomo con pelli e materiali pregiati.”

A parlare con giustificato orgoglio dell’azienda familiare è Tina Solazzo che, con i fratelli Giuseppe (il responsabile amministrativo) e Alessandro (il “creativo”, cioè l’ideatore dei diversi modelli), gestisce una realtà che ha una trentina di dipendenti e che, lo scorso anno, ha fatto registrare un fatturato di poco superiore ai 6 milioni di euro, quasi interamente frutto del mercato italiano.

“Le radici di questa azienda” - racconta Tina Solazzo - “hanno il volto dei nostri genitori e l’intelligenza imprenditoriale di papà Natalino. All’inizio, per qualche anno, hanno operato per conto di grandi aziende del vigevanese, occupandosi solo di alcune lavorazioni della scarpa.

Poi, attorno al 1970, hanno deciso di intraprendere la grande avventura e di dedicarsi alla produzione completa di scarpe da uomo.”

In un primo momento, l’azienda si focalizza sul classico mocassino; in seguito, SOLAZZO comincia a collaborare con diversi brand del lusso, sempre con scarpe da uomo, proponendo, anno dopo anno, una linea di tendenza per la moda, senza però mai tralasciare raffinatezza, classe, stile e gusto.

“In ogni caso - sottolinea l’imprenditrice - le nostre calzature ottengono consensi in ogni parte del mondo proprio perché portano i segni inconfondibili della lavorazione artigianale. Contribuiamo, insomma, a far apprezzare ovunque il made in Italy.”

Qualche anno fa, a Vigevano, in Via Roma, Solazzo apre il primo punto vendita, a cui con il tempo se ne aggiungono altri: a Nova-

ra, ad Alassio, lo scorso anno, e, proprio di recente, a Desenzano sul Garda. “D’altronde, non solo collaboriamo con i cosiddetti luxury brand, ma abbiamo anche un nostro marchio donna, la capsule Zanza disegnata da Sara Girbino, la cui potenzialità stiamo cercando di sviluppare, grazie anche alla collaborazione con importanti fornitori made in Italy come Facom e Marino Fabiani.” È Alessandro, il creativo della famiglia, a tracciare la linea stilistica di SOLAZZO: una linea che cerca sempre di rinnovarsi, pur rimanendo fedele all’artigianalità e a una modelleria piuttosto classica, destinata a una clientela amante del bello e del buon gusto, senza eccessive estrosità.

“La nostra non è una produzione di serie”, precisa la contitolare.

“Ogni scarpa viene montata in maniera diversa, la pelle è trattata in modo particolare e gran parte delle operazioni si eseguono ancora manualmente. Occorrono esperienza e abilità: a fare la differenza è l’estrema accuratezza nei dettagli. E importante è la continua formazione del personale”. Sono molte le lavorazioni che Solazzo

mette in campo per conquistare il proprio pubblico. Dalla lavorazione a “Guardolo”, per realizzare una calzatura perfetta, estremamente confortevole ed elegante, fatta per durare, alla laboriosa “Norvegese”, che richiede tempi molto lunghi, fatta esclusivamente a mano. Il “Mocassino tubolare”, avvolgente come un guanto, è una delle varianti insieme alla “Blake”, per l’eleganza perfetta.

Infine, il tocco esclusivo di Solazzo si ritrova nelle finiture: la colorazione è il tocco finale che esalta la complessa manualità di una lavorazione artigianale.

Oltre 50 mila paia di scarpe lasciano ogni anno l’azienda vigevanese: “Per quanto ci riguarda - conclude Tina Solazzo - intendiamo perseguire alcuni importanti obiettivi: innanzi tutto, desideriamo continuare la proficua collaborazione con i brand del lusso; inoltre, poco alla volta, vogliamo migliorare l’immagine del nostro marchio così da tentare un ulteriore salto di qualità; infine, entro breve tempo, apriremo altri punti vendita, e non solo in provincia, e punteremo ad espandere i mercati esteri, in particolare arabo e americano”. >

The year is 1970. We are in Vigevano. Natalino Solazzo embarks on the adventure of founding a company, more precisely a shoe factory.

“Solazzo is an artisan shoe factory, where all the processes are carried out with the skill of the old masters, handed down from father to son, to create a quality product. A family-owned business: we are in the second generation by now, and it is exactly this passion we have that guarantees continuity of a work that has always been difficult, but wonderful and full of satisfactions for those who, like us, make shoes for men with fine leathers and materials”.

Speaking with justified pride of the family business is Tina Solazzo who, with her brothers Giuseppe (the administrative manager) and Alessandro (the “creative”, that is the creator of the different models), runs a company that has about thirty employees and which, last year, recorded a turnover slightly above 6 million euro, almost entirely the result of the Italian market.

“The roots of this company” - says Tina Solazzo – “have the face of our parents and the entrepreneurial intelligence of father Natalino.

At the beginning, for a few years, they worked on behalf of large companies in the Vigevano area, dealing only with certain shoe processes. Then, around 1970, they decided to embark on the great adventure and to dedicate themselves to the complete production of men’s shoes”.

At first, the company focuses on the classic moccasin; later, SOLAZZO begins to collaborate with different luxury brands, always in the men’s shoe segment, proposing, year after year, a trendy fashion line, without ever neglecting refinement, class, style and taste. “In any case - highlights the entrepreneur - our shoes are acclaimed everywhere in the world because they bear the unique signs of craf-

tsmanship. In short, we contribute to making Made in Italy appreciated everywhere”.

A few years ago, Solazzo opened the first store in Via Roma - Vigevano, to which over time others were added: in Novara, in Alassio, last year, and, just recently, in Desenzano sul Garda. “On the other hand, we do not just collaborate with the so-called luxury brands, but we also have our own woman brand, the Zanza capsule designed by Sara Girbino, whose potential we are trying to develop, also thanks to the collaboration with important made in Italy suppliers such as Facom and Marino Fabiani”.

Alessandro, is the creative of the family, who traces the stylistic line of SOLAZZO: a line that always tries to renew itself, while remaining faithful to craftsmanship and a rather classic modelling, intended for a clientele who loves beauty and good taste, without excessive inventiveness.

“Ours is not a series production”, explains the co-owner. “Each shoe is assembled in a different way, the leather is treated in a particular way and most of the operations are still carried out manually.

Experience and skills are needed: the extreme accuracy in the details is what makes the difference. And the continuous training of the personal”.

There are many processes that Solazzo uses to win over its audience. From the “Welt” workmanship, to create a perfect, extremely comfortable and elegant shoe, made to last, to the labourious “Norwegian”, which requires very long times, exclusively hand-made.

The “tubular moccasin”, enveloping like a glove, one of the variants together with “Blake”, for a perfect elegance. Finally, Solazzo’s exclusive touch is found in the finishes: the colouring is the final touch that enhances the complex manual skills of an artisan manufacture. Every year over 50,000 pairs of shoes leave the Vigevano company: “As far as we are concerned - concludes Tina Solazzo - we intend to pursue some important objectives: first of all, we wish to continue the fruitful collaboration with luxury brands; moreover, little by little, we want to improve the image of our brand so as to make a qualitative leap forward; finally, in a short time, we will open other stores, and not just in the province and we will aim to expand foreign markets, particularly Arab and American”.

Abbiamo incontrato Francesco Mazzocconi, Presidente di IMAC S.p.A., uno dei più grandi Gruppi italiani del comparto calzaturiero, titolare dei marchi Primigi, Igi&co, Enval Soft e Imac per un tuffo nel mondo della calzatura da bambino.

Come è cambiato il mondo della calzatura bambino dal 1975 a oggi?

“Nel 1975, anno in cui venne fondata la Imac, eravamo in pieno fermento politico ed economico. In quegli anni, come molti altri settori, anche quello delle calzature da bambino registrava tangibili mutazioni e una crescita importante. Negli anni ‘70, l’attenzione dei genitori dell’epoca per i bambini e ciò che li circondava diveniva sempre più rilevante, spingendo l’interesse d’acquisto verso prodotti affidabili e di buona qualità. Erano anni in cui i valori essenziali di una marca divenivano elementi distintivi e caratterizzanti, gra-

zie anche a un modo di comunicare totalmente nuovo e per certi aspetti rivoluzionario. Negli anni successivi il mercato si evolve: i consumi restano importanti ma mutano le esigenze dei consumatori. La distribuzione si struttura e l’offerta di calzature da bambino diventa via via sempre più ampia e articolata. Dal negozio specializzato, unico attore di riferimento fino a quel momento, si giunge in breve alla grande superfice generalista dove, sulla scorta di quanto avvenuto negli Stati Uniti e in altri Paesi del Nord Europa, anche in Italia fattori fino ad allora considerati non prioritari, primo tra tutti il prezzo, cominciano ad assumere un ruolo sempre più centrale.

Questo nuovo contesto distributivo favorirà presto il modificarsi del panorama concorrenziale fino ad allora considerato, chiamando anche marchi specializzati come Primigi a confrontarsi con quello che tuttora rappresenta una fetta importante e consolidata delle vendite junior: il prodotto sportivo. L’avvento massiccio e sistema-

tico dei marchi sportivi nel panorama delle calzature da bambino è stato sicuramente l’elemento di maggior rilievo dell’ultimo decennio: nulla nella storia delle calzature da bambino è stato più incisivo ed impattante, soprattutto in relazione ai gusti e all’approccio al prodotto delle nuove generazioni di genitori”.

Quali valori sono rimasti immutati per Primigi?

“Tradizione, specializzazione, affidabilità e attenzione ai bambini sono valori per noi immutati e rimarranno tali anche negli anni a venire. A questi valori, si uniscono elementi più concreti, come un rapporto qualità-prezzo che permette a Primigi di essere ai primi posti nelle scelte delle mamme di tutta Europa”.

Come sta il marchio oggi? Quali i mercati principali?

“Anche grazie all’abbigliamento, Primigi continua a essere un marchio leader nel proprio segmento di mercato. La globalizzazione e la crescita delle vendite online ci hanno offerto l’opportunità di migliorare conoscenza e diffusione del marchio in molti nuovi Paesi, anche aldilà dei confini europei. Oltre che sul mercato italiano, Primigi è forte e ben posizionato in tutta l’area tedesca, in Spagna, in Francia, nei Paesi del Nord e dell’Est Europa”.

Come interpreta il suo stile manageriale?

“Più che uno stile, potremmo definire il nostro modo di condurre l’Azienda un buon connubio tra tradizione e innovazione. La presenza della famiglia e la divisione dei ruoli decisionali tra i suoi componenti, unita al supporto di manager validi e intraprendenti ci offre l’opportunità di mantenere sempre una visione ampia e di guardare al futuro con ottimismo”.

Come evolveranno i Primigi Store dopo l’esplosione del digitale e della Pandemia “I Primigi Store sono parte integrante e inamovibile del nostro modo di porci ai consumatori. Crediamo molto nell’opportunità di rendere sinergici i negozi fisici e le vendite online, divenute ormai parte irrinunciabile della distribuzione moderna, oltre che un aiuto indispensabile per le mamme di oggi. Crediamo, quindi, nell’opportunità di espandere ulteriormente la nostra rete di negozi in fran-

chising anche in altri Paesi, soprattutto grazie all’avvento di nuovi distributori e, più in generale, di nuovi clienti interessati al nostro progetto di affiliazione. La gestione della pandemia è stata difficile per tutti, ma ha contestualmente segnato, per noi, ancora una volta, l’opportunità di rimanere al fianco dei nostri clienti e dei nostri consumatori, ai quali abbiamo riservato condizioni e attenzioni veramente speciali”.

Cosa cercano, oggi, i clienti nelle scarpe Primigi?

“I clienti, intesi come trade, cercano continuità, affidabilità, assistenza costante e, in molti casi, capacità da parte del brand di adeguarsi repentinamente al cambiamento. In altre parole, cercano un partner su cui appoggiarsi con fiducia e con cui condividere un percorso comune. I consumatori cercano un marchio in grado di soddisfare a pieno le loro aspettative, un brand affidabile in grado di offrire loro un’offerta di qualità, una scelta vasta e costantemente aggiornata e, perché no, continue opportunità di acquisto”.

Quali saranno i modelli di punta della prossima SS22?

“Anche noi, come altri brand internazionali, abbiamo sentito la necessità di ‘mostrare’ ai nostri consumatori quanto facciamo da anni in tema di sostenibilità. È nata, così, la nuova linea “Primigi For Change”, una linea di calzature realizzate prevalentemente con materiali riciclati e/o a basso impatto ambientale. Queste scarpe rappresentano un po’ la punta dell’iceberg del nostro impegno in tema di sostenibilità, il punto di contatto tra i nostri progetti e le crescenti richieste dei consumatori. I clienti, soprattutto esteri, hanno dimostrato di apprezzare e di gradire molto la nostra iniziativa ordinando profusamente questi nuovi prodotti per la prossima stagione”.

Come affronta Primigi il tema sostenibilità, sia lato produzione che lato prodotti?

“La sostenibilità non è una moda. È un processo lungo, costante ed irreversibile, destinato a divenire parte integrante dello stesso DNA aziendale. Da anni privilegiamo relazioni con fornitori muniti di specifiche certificazioni in materia di sostenibilità, come le concerie che adottano il protocollo LWG, o i produttori di tessuti che ade>

riscono a programmi come il Gobal Recycled Standard. Abbiamo adottato un codice di condotta che non solo utilizziamo internamente, ma aggiorniamo e condividiamo costantemente con i nostri terzisti e i nostri partner. In ogni scelta strategica, così come in tutte le azioni quotidiane, ci impegniamo a migliorare il nostro rapporto con l’ambiente e con le nostre maestranze”.

Quali le innovazioni tecnologiche e di materiali che hanno caratterizzato e caratterizzeranno le vostre proposte?

“Collaboriamo da molto tempo con brand internazionali come Gore e Michelin per realizzare prodotti tecnologicamente all’avanguardia. Anche internamente continuiamo ad aggiornare i nostri processi produttivi e a sperimentare nuove tecniche specialmente nell’ambito dell’iniezione diretta su tomaia delle suole in PU, per cui siamo leader europei. Indubbiamente, l’avvento di nuove metodiche produttive, come quella utilizzata per la realizzazione di tomaie in tessuto senza cuciture, stanno modificando sostanzialmente anche le calzature da bambino. Investire nella ricerca e nello sviluppo resta una delle nostre priorità”.

Progetti futuri che si possono anticipare?

“Anche un momento difficile e complicato a livello gestionale come quello che stiamo attraversando a causa della pandemia, apre le porte a nuove idee e opportunità. Siamo costantemente alla ricerca di nuove partnership e lavoriamo instancabilmente a nuovi progetti sia in termini di prodotto che di distribuzione. Al centro dei nostri pensieri ci sono sempre i clienti ed i nostri consumatori ai quali continueremo a dedicare, anche in futuro, le nostre migliori idee”.

We met Francesco Mazzocconi, Chairman of IMAC S.p.A., one of the largest Italian groups in the footwear sector, owner of the Primigi, Igi&co, Enval Soft and Imac brands, for a dive into the world of children’s footwear.

How has children’s footwear changed from 1975 up to now?

“In 1975, the year in which Imac was founded, we were in full political and economic turmoil. In those years, like many other sectors, also the children’s footwear sector was experiencing tangible changes and significant growth. In the 70s, the attention of parents of the time to children and their surroundings became increasingly relevant, driving the buying interest in reliable and good quality products. These were years in which the essential values of a brand became distinctive and characterising elements, also thanks to a totally new and in some respects revolutionary way of communicating. In the following years the market evolves: consumption remains important but consumer needs change. The distribution is structured and the offer of children’s footwear becomes increasingly broad and articulated. From the specialised shop, the only point of reference up to that moment, we quickly reach the large generalist area where, on the basis of what happened in the United States, in other Northern European countries and also in Italy, factors considered until then non-priority, first of all the price, start to take on an increasing key role. This new distribution context will soon favour the change of the competitive landscape taken into consideration until then, also calling specialised brands such as Primigi to deal with what still represents an important and consolidated share of junior sales: the sports product.

The massive and systematic advent of sports brands in the panorama of children’s footwear has certainly been the most important element of the last decade: nothing in the history of children’s footwear has been more incisive and impactful, especially in relation to tastes and product approach of the new generations of parents”.

What values have remained unchanged for Primigi?

“To us, tradition, specialisation, reliability and attention to children are values that remain unchanged and will remain so for years to come. These values are combined with more concrete elements, such as a quality-price ratio that allows Primigi to be at the top of the choices made by mothers from all over Europe”.

How is the brand doing today? What are the main markets?

“Also thanks to clothing, Primigi continues to be a leading brand in its market segment. Globalisation and the growth of online sales have given us the opportunity to improve awareness and dissemination of the brand in many new countries, even beyond Europen borders. In addition to the Italian market, Primigi is strong and well positioned throughout the German area, in Spain, in France, in the countries of Northern and Eastern Europe”.

How do you interpret your management style?

“More than a style, we could define our way of running the company a good combination of tradition and innovation. The presence of the family and the division of decision-making roles among its members, combined with the support of valid and enterprising managers, offers us the opportunity to always maintain a broad vision and to look to the future with optimism”.

How will Primigi Stores evolve after the explosion of digital technology and the Pandemic?

“Primigi Stores are an integral and immovable part of our way of dealing with consumers. We strongly believe in the opportunity to create synergistic physical stores and online sales, which have now become an indispensable part of modern distribution, as well as an indispensable help for today’s mothers.

We therefore believe in the opportunity to further expand our network of franchise stores in other countries, especially thanks to the advent of new distributors and, more generally, of new customers interested in our affiliation project.

Managing the pandemic was difficult for everyone, but at the same time it marked, for us, once again, the opportunity to remain alongside our customers and consumers, to whom we have reserved very special conditions and attention”.

What are customers looking for today in Primigi shoes?

“Customers, understood as trades, are looking for continuity, reliability, constant assistance and, in many cases, the ability of the brand to adapt quickly to change. In other words, they are looking for a partner they can rely on with confidence and with whom to share a common path. Consumers are looking for a brand that can fully meet their expectations, a reliable brand that can offer them a quality offer, a wide and constantly updated choice and, why not, continuous shopping opportunities”.

What will be the top models of the next SS22?

“Like other international brands, we too have felt the need to ‘show’ our consumers what we have been doing for years in terms of sustainability. We therefore founded the new “Primigi For Change” footwear line, mainly made with recycled and/or low environmental impact materials. These shoes represent the tip of the iceberg of our commitment to sustainability, the point of contact between our projects and the growing demands of consumers. Customers, especially foreign customers, have shown that they like and appreciate our initiative very much by ordering these new products profusely for the next season”.

How does Primigi deal with the sustainability theme, both in terms of production and products?

“Sustainability is not a fashion. It is a long, constant and irreversible

process, destined to become an integral part of the company’s DNA. For years we have favoured relationships with suppliers with specific sustainability certifications, such as tanneries that adopt the LWG protocol, or fabric manufacturers that adhere to programmes such as the Gobal Recycled Standard. We have adopted a code of conduct that we not only use internally, but constantly update and share with our contractors and partners. In every strategic choice, as well as in all daily actions, we are committed to improving our relationship with the environment and with our workers”.

What are the technological and material innovations that have characterised and will characterise your proposals?

“We have been collaborating for a long time with international brands such as Gore and Michelin to create technologically advanced products. We also continue to update our production processes internally and experiment with new techniques, especially in the field of direct injection on the upper of PU soles, for which we are European leaders. Undoubtedly, the advent of new production methods, such as the one used for the production of seamless fabric uppers, are also substantially changing children’s footwear. Investing in research and development remains one of our priorities”.

Are there any future projects that can be anticipated?

“Even a difficult and complicated management time like the one we are going through due to the pandemic, opens the door to new ideas and opportunities. We are constantly looking for new partnerships and work tirelessly on new projects both in terms of product and distribution. Our customers and consumers, to whom we will continue to dedicate our best ideas, even in the future, are always at the centre of our thoughts”.
