Attention span ’avvento di Internet e di un’offerta di informazioni tendente all’infinito ha ridotto la capacità di attenzione: l’ultima rilevazione del 2019 la fissava a 9 secondi.

Pochi attimi buoni per riuscire a trasmettere un concetto, un messaggio, un’idea. Come a dire che ogni dettaglio conta, che anche un istante può, e deve a questo punto, raccontare una storia.

I nostri istanti narrativi continuano a essere, in prima battuta, le immagini attraverso cui scoprire i particolari rilevanti delle prossime stagioni. A seguire, vengono alcuni spunti che riveliamo a parole, buttando lo sguardo sulle prossime proposte estive espresse dai brand, nella inedita sezione Press Room, o rilevando la rinnovata importanza dei cartoni animati anche per il mondo degli adulti oppure, ancora, l’influenza crescente del pop coreano. Fashion, trend and Kpop from Korea It is called “Hallyu” and it is a worldwide phenomenon

A

rriva “Hallyu”, l’onda coreana: un primo assaggio lo abbiamo già nel 2012 con il successo mondiale del singolo di PSY “Gangnam Style”. Dieci anni dopo il fenomeno ha conquistato definitivamente anche l’Europa, capitanato dal Kpop e dai suoi Idol.

Che cos’è il Kpop? Pop coreano cantato e ballato da giovani di talento. Li chiamano Idol e sono il modello di gioventù perfetta. Belli, carismatici sul palco e nella vita di tutti i giorni vengono reclutati dalle case discografiche già durante l’infanzia. Cresciuti con lezioni di canto, rap, ballo e lingua straniera, questi Idol lavorano duro per riuscire a debuttare e i fan ripagano i loro sforzi facendoli volare verso il successo.

Ne sono un esempio i BTS (BangTan Sonyeondan), la boyband più famosa del momento. Nati nel 2013 da una casa discografica poco conosciuta, la BigHit, oggi hanno 32,2 milioni di followers su twitter e più di 800 milioni di visualizzazioni su youtube per il loro ultimo singolo “Dynamite” (potreste averlo sentito in questi ultimi mesi nelle pubblicità). Sono i primi artisti sudcoreani a debuttare nella TOP 100 di Billboard e la campagna BTS x UNICEF: Love Myself lanciata nel 2017 ha raccolto in un solo anno più di 1 miliardo e 600 milioni di won. Un altro nome di nota sono le BlackPink: durante la Milano Fashion Week 2020/2021 l’Italia è rimasta sconvolta per la folla radunatasi fuori dalla sfilata autunno/inverno di Prada.

Aspettavano la main dancer del gruppo femminile BlackPink, Lisa, nome d’arte per Lalisa Manoban, che ha fatto girare la testa a tutti quando è scesa dalla macchina nel suo completo dorato della Maison tra le grida dei fan. Il tutto è durato pochi secondi, eppure sui social non si è parlato d’altro per settimane.

Le ragazze delle BlackPink sono ambassador mondiali di importanti brand di lusso come Chanel, Dior, Bulgari, Prada, Celine e

di recente Saint Laurent e MAC. Vengono definite le influencer più seguite del 2021 e a dimostrarlo sono le vendite anche per marchi poco conosciuti, come nel caso di Fluffy, indossato dalle ragazze nelle foto teaser per la collaborazione con Selena Gomez, “Ice Scream”, uscita in agosto e oggi continuamente out of stock nei negozi online. Pochi mesi prima Jennie, la leader del gruppo, aveva lanciato con il video musicale “How You Like That” il trend delle ciocche decolorate, ormai un must per le giovani celebrity di TikTok. Kpop e fashion non si possono separare. I video e le esibizioni sono una gara a chi presenta il concept più originale e lo stile più innovativo. Le collaborazioni sono infinite: il famosissimo G-Dragon dei Big Bang è ambassador mondiale per Chanel dal 2017 e fondatore del marchio Peaceminusone specializzato in street fashion come dimostrato dalla collezione Nike x Peaceminusone Air Force 1 “Para-noise” del 2019.

Un’altra celebrità coreana a suscitare scalpore durante la Fashion Week di Milano è stata IU, idol solista soprannominata “la sorellina nazionale” dalla Corea e ambassador mondiale di Gucci. Altri esempi degni di nota sono Irene dal gruppo femminile RedVelvet e Chanyeol dal gruppo maschile EXO, ambassador di Prada.

Si potrebbe continuare per ore: NCT127 per il brand Nature Republic, Suzy, Kang Daniel, EXO, Big Bang e tanti altri sono comparsi sulla copertina di Vogue. I BTS, in copertina di un’edizione globale del Time nel 2018, vengono definiti “leader della prossima generazione.”

come Instagram e Twitter ma anche grazie alla invenzione di social personalizzati esclusivamente dedicati ad artisti sudcoreani, come per esempio la piattaforma Vlive o le applicazioni chatroom Weverse e Bubble, create per i singoli gruppi. Il quotidiano scambio di informazioni ha permesso alla community Kpop di estendere i propri trend verso pubblico in generale e “crossoverare”.

Ormai i trend più recenti di street fashio, make up e soprattutto skincare moderni sono il risultato dell’influenza “Hallyu” nel mondo.

Here comes “Hallyu”, the Korean wave: we had a taste of it already in 2012 with the worldwide success of PSY’s single “Gangnam Style”. Ten years later the phenomenon has also definitively conquered Europe, led by Kpop and its Idols.

What is Kpop? Korean pop sung and danced by talented young people. They call them Idols and are the role model of perfect youth. Beautiful, charismatic on stage and in everyday life, they are recruited by record companies already in childhood. Raised with singing, rap, dance and foreign language lessons, these Idols work hard to make their debut, and fans repay their efforts by making them fly to success. BTS (BangTan Sonyeondan), the most famous boyband of the moment, is a classic example. Founded in 2013 by a little known record company named BigHit, today they have 32.2 million followers on twitter and more than 800 million views on youtube for their latest single “Dynamite” (you may have heard it in recent months in advertisements). They are the first South Korean artists to debut in Billboard’s TOP 100 and in BTS for UNICEF: the Love Myself campaign launched in 2017 has raised more than 1 billion and 600 million of Korean Won in just one year. BlackPinks is another noteworthy name: during Milan Fashion Week 2020/2021, Italy was stunned by the crowd that gathered outside the Prada autumn/winter show. People were waiting for the main dancer of the BlackPink women’s group, Lalisa Manoban, better known by her stage name, Lisa, who made everyone’s heads turn when she got out of the car in her golden outfit of the Maison to the cheers of the fans. It all lasted a few seconds, yet for weeks there has been talk of nothing but this on social networks. The BlackPink girls are global ambassadors of important luxury

brands such as Chanel, Dior, Bulgari, Prada, Celine and recently Saint Laurent and MAC. They are defined the most followed influencers of 2021, as prove the sales of little-known brands, like Fluffy, whose outfits are worn by the girls in the teaser photos for the collaboration with Selena Gomez, “Ice Scream”, released in August and which today are continuously out of stock in online stores. A few months earlier Jennie, the leader of the group, had launched the trend of bleached locks with the music video “How You Like That”, now a must for the young celebrities of TikTok. Kpop and fashion cannot be separated. The videos and performances are a competition to see who presents the most original concept and the most innovative style. Collaborations are endless: the famous G-Dragon of Big Bang has been a world ambassador for Chanel since 2017 and founder of the Peaceminusone brand specialised in street fashion as demonstrated by the Nike for Peaceminusone Air Force 1 “Para-noise” collection of 2019.

IU, is another Korean celebrity who caused an uproar during Milan Fashion Week, the solo idol nicknamed “the national little sister” by Korea and Gucci’s global ambassador. Irene from the women’s group RedVelvet and Chanyeol from the men’s group EXO, Prada’s ambassador are other noteworthy examples. We could go on for hours: NCT127 for the Nature Republic brand, Suzy, Kang Daniel, EXO, Big Bang and many others have appeared on the cover of Vogue. BTS, who in 2018 were on the cover of Time’s global issue, are called “leaders of the next generation.”

Kpop artists and Korean celebrities are constantly in the spotlight and unter the watchful eyes of fans. The relationship with the fandom is the key element of this success: fans and idols are in close contact through social channels. Not only the traditional ones like Instagram and Twitter but also thanks to the invention of personalised social networks exclusively dedicated to South Korean artists, such as the Vlive platform or the chatroom applications Weverse and Bubble, created for individual groups. The daily exchange of information has allowed the Kpop community to extend its trends towards the general public and “crossover”. By now the most recent trends in street fashion, make up and above all modern skincare are the result of the “Hallyu” influence in the world.

Cartoons “for grown-ups”

Small therapies for interrupted children

L

a nostra generazione è la generazione più sola mai esistita. Il 25% dei Millennials non ha neanche un amico e la Generazione Z è la generazione più afflitta dal senso di solitudine (dati provenienti rispettivamente da uno studio dell’ente YouGov e da un sondaggio condotto dalla compagnia assicurativa Cigna).

Probabilmente è per questo che sta nascendo il lone di serie animate per adulti, che ha smesso di parlare solo di cose superficiali ed ha iniziato ad affrontare temi più profondi, come quelli che af iggono inevitabilmente la testa e il cuore dei ventenni che le guardano. Rick e Morty, Adventure Time, BoJack Horseman, Midnight Gospel. Questi cartoni animati “allucinati”, con il loro carattere marcatamente psichedelico, attraggono il pubblico giovanile e tra una battuta e l’altra si assumono il compito di trasportarlo verso nuove e brillanti riflessioni.

Prendiamo ad esempio l’ultimo grande successo di questo lone: Midnight Gospel, creato da Pendleton Ward, sulla scia del precedente capolavoro ‘Adventure Time’, e Duncan Trussell, autore del podcast ‘The Duncan Trussell Family Hour’ da cui trae spunto la sceneggiatura. Il protagonista è Clancy: un ragazzino, s gato e solo, a volte un po’ burbero ma dal cuore d’oro. Fa uso di droghe per evadere dal suo mondo, un po’ troppo asettico per stimolarlo, e passa la maggior parte del tempo davanti ai videogames. Proprio come noi. Il passatempo che preferisce è un gioco di simulazione, in cui grazie ad uno strambo simulatore a forma di vulva, che “genera” nuove realtà, è in grado di fare viaggi spazio temporali in nuovi mondi. Vive, per così dire, tante vite. Ma non la sua. Ogni episodio affronta un tema diverso, sul quale tutti noi “ragazzi di oggi” ci arrovelliamo in cerca di una qualche verità assoluta: la morte, la paura, le religioni, l’innamoramento, l’amore, il ciclo della vita.

Clancy si innamora, piange, si scioglie, vive momenti di down e poi ritrova la speranza, a volte da solo, a volte grazie al consiglio di qualche estraneo, di cui si da proprio perché non lo conosce (un paradosso particolare conosciuto dalla nostra generazione, che cresce sempre più frequentemente sulle sedie pieghevoli degli studi psicoterapeutici, in cui racconta la propria vita a perfetti sconosciuti). Ciascuna di queste serie riesce ad essere incisiva perché nel corso della narrazione si ripercorrono le fasi critiche di qualsiasi ragazzo, adolescente o venticinquenne che ha ancora bisogno di fare i conti con le domande davvero importanti, evitate ormai da troppo tempo. Dove va il nostro amore non corrisposto? Come superiamo la morte di qualcuno a cui vogliamo bene? È giusto fare uso di sostanze che alterano il nostro io? Come si fa a perdonare chi ci fa del male? Il motivo principale che spinge a rimanere attaccati allo schermo è che ascoltare le risposte a queste domande è a dir poco rassicurante. Ha il potere di far sentire chi guarda come se ci fosse sempre qualcuno lì accanto a lui, disposto a spiegargli che se ti liberi della preoccupazione della morte puoi assaporare la serenità, che i nostri sentimenti non vanno da nessuna parte, a volte finiscono o vengono semplicemente feriti, ma poi si ricompongono, come un elastico che non si affatica.

Lo consola sul fatto che il dolore che sentiamo esiste e non ci possiamo fare niente. Può sembrare banale, ma racchiudere in una decina di episodi dei consigli su come affrontare gli ostacoli che incontri nella vita di tutti i giorni fa sì che, se ti vergogni di parlarne, se non hai il coraggio di chiedere aiuto, puoi intanto avvalerti di questo vademecum. Che siano le due di notte, di ritorno da una serata in cui abbiamo bevuto troppo, o dopo pranzo mentre prendiamo il caffè e fumiamo l’ultima sigaretta del pacchetto, possiamo sempre sentire che qualcuno si chiede quello che ci chiediamo noi e che >

esistono delle risposte (e anche delle soluzioni) per no alle questioni più dif cili. I cartoni “per grandi” funzionano perché è l’immedesimazione dello spettatore a funzionare: ci si può sentire come ognuno di quei personaggi che ha da dire o imparare qualcosa. Questi vademecum audio-visivi forse non saranno sufficienti per alcuni dei ragazzi “interrotti” di cui parlo, i cui problemi purtroppo superano la pericolosa linea gialla del peso sopportabile per un giovane adulto. Ma per molti altri potrebbero essere un ottimo dispensatore di saggezza serale a cui rivolgersi quando hanno bisogno di una voce amica. Io, ad esempio, li ringrazio.

This is probably why there are so many animated series for adults, which have stopped talking about superficial things and started exploring deeper themes, such as those that inevitably afflict the minds and hearts of the 20-somethings who watch them. Rick and Morty, Adventure Time, BoJack Horseman, The Midnight Gospel.

These “hallucinated” cartoons, with their highly psychedelic nature, attract young audiences and between one joke and another transport them towards new and brilliant reflections.

Take for example the latest big hit of this genre: The Midnight Gospel. This animated TV series was created by Pendleton Ward, in the wake of his previous masterpiece ‘Adventure Time’, and by Duncan Trussell, author of the podcast ‘The Duncan Trussell Family Hour’ from which the screenplay was inspired. The series centres on Clancy, a weird and lonely kid, who can be a bit gruff but has a heart of gold. He uses drugs to escape from his world, which is a bit too aseptic to stimulate him, and he spends most of his time playing video games. Just like us. His favourite game is a simulation game which features a strange simulator in the shape of a vulva that “generates” new realities and allows him to travel through space and time to new worlds. He lives, so to speak, many lives.

But not his own. Each episode deals with a different theme, which all of “us kids today” struggle in search of some absolute truth:

death, fear, religion, falling in love, love, the cycle of life. Clancy falls in love, cries, opens up, feels down and then finds hope again, sometimes alone, sometimes thanks to the advice of a stranger, to whom he opens up because he does not know him (a paradox known to our generation, which becomes more and more frequent on the folding chair of a therapist’s office, where we tell our life story to a complete stranger). Each of these episodes succeeds in being incisive because the narrative takes us through the critical stages of any child, teenager or 25-year old who still needs to come to terms with the really important questions, which have been avoided for too long now. Where does our unrequited love go? How do we get over the death of a loved one? Is it right to use substances that alter our ego? How do we forgive those who hurt us? The main reason for watching is that listening to the answers to these questions is reassuring to say the least. It has the power to make us feel as if there is always someone there beside us, willing to explain to us that if we get rid of the worry of death we can be serene, that our feelings don’t go anywhere, sometimes they end or are simply hurt, but then they recompose themselves, like a rubber band that does not tire. We are comforted by the fact that the pain we feel exists and there is nothing we can do about it. It may seem trivial, but by encapsulating in a dozen or so episodes some advice on how to deal with the obstacles we encounter in our everyday life means that, if you are ashamed to talk about it, if you don’t have the courage to ask for help, in the meantime you can take advantage of this Vademecum.

Whether it’s two in the morning, returning home from a night of drinking too much, or after lunch while having a coffee and smoking the last cigarette in the pack, we can always feel that someone is asking what we are asking ourselves and that there are answers (as well as solutions) to the most difficult questions. Cartoons “for grown-ups” work because viewers can identify with them: they can feel like each of those characters who has something to say or learn. These audio-visual vademecums may not be enough for some of the “interrupted” kids I am talking about, whose problems unfortunately cross the dangerous yellow line of the weight that a young adult can bear. But for many others, they could be a great dispenser of wisdom to turn to when they need a friendly voice. I, for one, thank them.

ARBO nasce nel 2010 a Milano, dopo anni di collaborazione in simbiosi con le aziende partner operanti nel settore dell’ospitalità e del lusso. Roberta e Ilaria desideravano uno spazio di lavoro che ricreasse un’atmosfera più simile ad un’abituazione che ad un ufficio asettico, proprio come l’attuale sede in Porta Romana, che si presta anche ad essere la cornice perfetta per eventi, spot pubblicitari e shooting. Fin dall’inizio hanno desiderato distinguersi dal panorama delle numerose agenzie stampa milanesi. Non hanno voluto focalizzarsi troppo su uno specifico ambito d’azione, ma piuttosto offrire servizi ‘tailor made’, personalizzati sulle esigenze e la tipologia del singolo cliente, dalle realtà più consolidate a quelle emergenti e ricche di talento. Insomma, una Press&Pr non convenzionale… e ci sono riuscite.

Quali attente osservatrici del settore moda, quali ritenete siano le prospettive per il futuro, in particolare per il mondo degli accessori?

“C’è una consapevolezza crescente negli acquisti e quindi una generale tendenza a preferire la qualità alla quantità, in ottica no-waste.

In questo quadro, l’accessorio avrà nuova vita e sarà l’elemento fondamentale in abbinamento a capi passepartout e senza tempo. In questo momento storico c’è anche una grande attenzione al comfort e alla sobrietà, in particolare in ambito homewear e le proposte unisex sono ormai moltissime. A livello commerciale, inoltre, stiamo assistendo ad un cambio di modalità di fare moda e di acquistarla, conseguentemente cambia anche la nostra modalità di fare comunicazione”.

Quali sono i criteri che seguite per tenere aggiornato il vostro portafoglio di marchi?

“A guidarci è prima di tutto il nostro gusto personale, perché scegliamo sempre progetti in cui crediamo davvero. L’originalità della proposta è poi fondamentale, ma non sempre è semplice da trovare.

Riteniamo, inoltre, che una distribuzione avviata sia una caratteristica molto importante su cui basare la comunicazione, anche e soprattutto nell’ambito dei brand emergenti. Oggi abbiamo un portfolio bilanciato con marchi operanti in diversi ambiti, e stiamo puntando molto sul settore beauty e consolidando le aree moda e design”.

Tra i nuovi brand, quale ha riservato le maggiori sorprese lo scorso anno?

“Le aziende beauty stanno vivendo un momento d’oro dal punto di vista della comunicazione, grazie anche alla ‘quotidianità casalinga’ cui siamo stati tutti costretti dal lockdown, e d’altra parte, le testate giornalistiche si stanno legando sempre di più agli argomenti connessi alla ‘beauty routine’ e al benessere. Per quanto riguarda i marchi, LimeLife By Alcone e Chrissie Cosmetics sono quelli che stanno avendo i migliori riscontri stampa, grazie anche all’ampia gamma di prodotti di cui dispongono e alla forte distribuzione online”.

In un’era in cui il digitale è pervasivo, come stanno cambiando le vostre strategie di comunicazione?

“Abbiamo sempre creduto molto nel digitale, tanto che siamo state tra le prime agenzie a puntare sui canali social per la nostra comunicazione, creando e gestendo i contenuti delle pagine dei nostri clienti e dell’agenzia stessa. Nelle ultime due stagioni, inoltre, per ovviare al problema degli eventi in presenza cui abbiamo dovuto rinunciare, abbiamo realizzato i press day sulla piattaforma Instagram con un account dedicato. A supporto delle attività ordinarie, inoltre, cerchiamo sempre di più di indirizzare i clienti verso il digitale, pur senza dimenticare i tradizionali mezzi cartacei, che a nostro avviso restano indispensabili”.

Come si cattura oggi l’attenzione dei buyer? Con quali argomenti li si invoglia ad acquistare?

“Non è il nostro focus, ma notiamo che il buyer è attirato in particolare da prodotti di comprensione trasversale. La continuità di presenza sul mercato e il buon rapporto qualità/prezzo fanno il resto.

Se un brand ha una buona padronanza dei canali social, possiede pubblicazioni editoriali e realizza un ‘product placement’ efficace, attira sicuramente molta attenzione: il nostro compito è proprio rendere visibile il brand, per invogliare i buyer e il consumatore finale all’acquisto”.

Quali sono le parole-chiave sulle quali i brand oggi fanno leva per la loro promozione?

“Specialmente in ambito lusso, la definizione ‘Made in Italy’ è da sempre considerata un ottimo biglietto da visita e, ora come non >

mai, ha un valore importante. Oltre a questo, notiamo che attualmente i brand puntano spesso ad abbinare ai loro prodotti il termine ‘sostenibile’: un aggettivo non sempre corretto e che rischia di essere sin troppo abusato per attirare attenzione. Siamo felici di seguire la comunicazione di tre brand che realmente sposano a 360 gradi e con serietà questa causa”.

Quali caratteristiche devono avere i prodotti per imporsi con successo sui mercati?

“Prima di tutto qualità, sotto tutti gli aspetti e in ogni settore: moda, beauty e design, dalla materia prima in poi. Altra caratteristica importante è la riconoscibilità, anche qui supportata dalla comunicazione e dall’endorsement di celebrities o talents digitali. Per quanto riguarda invece il design, crediamo che il coinvolgimento di un nome noto nel settore (nella direzione creativa o tramite collaborazioni) possa dare al brand una particolare visibilità. Ad esempio, il nostro cliente NUDE fa di questo aspetto uno dei suoi punti di forza, realizzando capsule con grandi nomi del design internazionale”.

Quali sono i look ideali dell’uomo e della donna riletti attraverso il filtro dei vostri brand?

“Al momento, capi confortevoli in materiali tecnici performanti come quelli proposti da Pyrenex, perfetti da mixare con le luxury sneakers venete di Hide&Jack. La donna può giocare maggiormente con gli accessori e scegliere prodotti sostenibili come le borse di MATI e Lidia Muro, oppure l’ampia gamma di calzature Clewoo. I capispalla unisex di KIMONORAIN, infine, possono donare il giusto twist colorato all’insieme del look!”.

GARBO was founded in Milan, in 2010, after years of close collaboration with partners operating in the hospitality and luxury industry.

Roberta and Ilaria wanted a workspace that recreated an atmosphere closer to that of the home than a sterile office, and this can be seen today in the company’s current headquarters in Porta Romana, which also serve as the perfect setting for events, commercials, and photoshoots. Since the start, they decided to stand out on the panorama of numerous Milan press agencies. The idea was that of focusing not so much on any one specific area of action, but rather offering “tailor-made” services, which were personalised and based on the needs and type of individual customer, from larger and more established realities to emerging ones rich in talent. In other words, the aim was to create an unconventional Press&PR service… and they fully succeeded in doing so.

As attentive observers of the fashion industry, what do you believe are the prospects for the future, especially for the world of accessories?

“There is a growing awareness surrounding purchases and accordingly a general tendency to prefer quality over quantity, with a nowaste philosophy. In this context, the accessory takes on new life and becomes a fundamental element when matched with passepartout and timeless garments. In this historical moment, there is also great attention to comfort and sobriety, especially in the segment of homewear and unisex proposals are by now extremely numerous. On a commercial level, we are witnessing a changed way of expressing fashion and purchasing it, which also subsequently changes our ways of communicating”.

What are the criteria you follow in keeping your portfolio of brands updated?

“Primarily guiding us is our own personal taste, because we always choose projects in which we genuinely believe. The originality of the proposal is then fundamental, but it is not always easy to find. We also believe a strong distribution channel is a very important feature on which to base communication, also and above all in the field of

emerging brands. Today, we have a well-equilibrated portfolio with brands operating in different fields, and we are focusing a lot on the beauty industry and in reinforcing our activities in fashion and design”.

Among the new brands, which ones reserved the most surprises for you last year?

“Beauty-based businesses are going through a golden era in terms of communication, thanks also to the ‘daily domestic lifestyle’ we were all forced to experience during lockdown. From the other end, newspaper headlines are increasingly tying together the topics of ‘beauty routine’ and well-being. As far as brands are concerned, LimeLife By Alcone and Chrissie Cosmetics are those that are meeting up with the best press, thanks also to the extensive range of products they have available and their strong online distribution”.

In an era in which digital technology is pervasive, how are your communication strategies changing?

“We have always strongly believed in digital, to the extent that we were among the first agencies to focus on social channels for our communications, creating and managing the contents of our customers’ pages and our own pages. Additionally, over the last two seasons, our solution in dealing with the problem of events with a physical presence where we could no longer participate was to create press day on our Instagram platform with a dedicated account. In support of day-to-day activities, we increasingly try to orient customers towards digital technology, without forgetting traditional paper means of communication, which in our opinion remain essential”.

How do you capture the attention of buyers today? What subject matters do you use to encourage their purchases?

“It is not our focus, but we have noted that buyers are mainly attracted to products that are across-the-board. A constant presence on the market and a good quality/price ratio do the rest. If a brand is skilled in its approach to social channels, has its own editorial releases, and creates an effective ‘product placement’, it will undoub-

tedly attract a lot of attention: our job is to make the brand visible so that buyers and the end customer are interested in purchasing it”.

What are the key words that brands today use in their promotion?

“Especially in the luxury segment, the use of ‘Made in Italy’ has always been considered the very best calling card and now, more than ever before, it has an important value. Besides this, we have noticed that currently brands often match their products with the term ‘sustainable’: an adjective that is not always correct and which risks being overly abused in order to attract attention. We are happy to follow the communication of three brands that genuinely embrace at 360 degrees and with seriousness this cause”.

What features must products have to establish themselves with success on the market?

“First off, quality from every standpoint and in every sector: fashion, beauty, and design, starting from the raw materials and moving forward. Another important feature is the profile, also here supported by communication and the endorsement of celebrities or digital talents.

As far as design is concerned, we believe that involving a known name in the sector (creatively speaking or through collaborations) is especially effective in emphasising the visibility of the brand. For example, our customer NUDE makes this one of its strengths, creating capsule collections with leading names in international design”.

What are the ideal looks for men and women reread through the filter of your brands?

“At the moment, comfortable garments in high-performance technical materials like those proposed by Pyrenex, which are perfect when mixed with the Venetian luxury sneakers of Hide&Jack. Women have more freedom to play around with accessories and choose sustainable products like the bags of MATI and Lidia Muro, or shoes from the wide range of Clewoo footwear. Finally, the unisex outerwear of KIMONORAIN can convey the perfect colourful twist to the overall look!”.

Hide&Jack/Alberto Franceschi Two sides of the personality

G

iovane imprenditore padovano (classe 1992), Alberto Franceschi, insieme al fratello Nicola, è riuscito nell’impresa tutt’altro che semplice di portare il brand Hide&Jack a diventare un vero e proprio ‘must-have’ in tutto il mondo, partendo da un’idea innovativa e brevettata: una sneaker con la tomaia in velcro intercambiabile che permette ad ogni modello di cambiare di volta in volta personalità. Così, dal 2014, anno di creazione del brand, Hide&Jack ha preso un posto d’onore tra le star del casual luxury internazionale. A raccontarci presente e futuro del marchio è Alberto Franceschi.

A cosa s’ispira il vostro stile?

“Hide&Jack è un brand che s’ispira alle differenti personalità che ognuno di noi possiede, perché permette al cliente di dare la propria visione del prodotto attraverso le varianti di colore delle suole e le fantasie della tomaia. Proprio per questo per il nome del marchio ci siamo richiamati al romanzo scozzese “Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde”: credo che sia importante mantenere viva questa filosofia, lo stile minimal, ma spesso abbinato a colori forti che rendono possibili infinite varianti in vero mood Hide&Jack“.

Quanto conta per voi l’artigianato italiano e perché lo ritenete un valore aggiunto?

“Per me è fondamentale, ci ho sempre creduto. Il Made in Italy è una bandiera che ci contraddistingue nel mondo e che deve continuare ad essere valorizzata, se così non fosse rischieremmo di perdere un carattere distintivo del know-how e della qualità del nostro paese.

Noi abbiamo molti clienti asiatici e russi che credono fermamente nella nostra manifattura. Mi dispiace, tuttavia, riscontare come molti grandi brand preferiscano spesso delocalizzare la produzione all’estero pur di avere margini di guadagno ancora maggiori”.

Nel quadro attuale dominato dall’avvento della pandemia, su quali nuovi concetti state lavorando nella creazione del le prossime collezioni?

“Il Covid-19 ha ridotto al minimo le possibilità di viaggiare e fare ricerca, e la moda è emozione, sentimento e libertà. Tutti questi concetti sono ora quasi azzerati, perché siamo costretti a restare a casa e vivere in una modalità “stand-by”. Di conseguenza, le collezioni sono sempre più basiche, perché anche gli stilisti e gli artisti hanno

paura di assumersi dei rischia e tendono ad assorbire tutta questo ‘immobilismo’, che poi inevitabilmente si rispecchia anche nei prodotti. Il mio staff per fortuna è molto giovane e assieme cerchiamo sempre nuove ispirazioni e nuovi modi per creare prodotti innovativi e mai banali”.

Giocate in qualche modo con gli elementi del passato?

“Gli elementi del passato sono a mio avviso molto importanti, tanto che invidio un po’ i brand iconici che possono attingere a piene mani ai loro archivi storici per avere nuove idee e ispirazioni. Hide&Jack non ha molti anni di storia alle spalle, ma proprio per questo amo cercare elementi del passato cui ispirarmi guardando vecchi film o riviste, capaci di far rivivere epoche lontane che oggi sono tutte da scoprire”.

Su quali materiali punterete per la prossima collezione?

“La nostra prossima collezione si caratterizza per l’impiego di molti materiali nuovi ed eco solidali, perché ritengo oggi più che mai importante fare qualcosa per tutelare l’ambiente o almeno provarci: troviamo pelli leggerissime che mantengono il piede più fresco durante l’estate e abbiamo sostituito tutte le suole in gomma con l’EVA, un materiale talmente leggero che dona la sensazione di volare mentre si cammina”.

Cosa ti ha più colpito del periodo così particolare che stiamo vivendo?

“Mi ha colpito molto la solidarietà delle persone ed il modo in cui tutto il mondo si è unito per provare a sconfiggere questo virus così aggressivo. E’ come essere in una guerra contro un nemico che non si può né vedere né toccare”.

Come pensate cambierà, se cambierà, il mondo della moda?

“La moda purtroppo è già cambiata: era un treno che non si fermava mai, ma la pandemia è stata come un muro che ha fatto cambiare la sua rotta per paura dello schianto. Si lavorava un anno prima ad una collezione che sarebbe uscita l’anno successivo, con un calendario che prevedeva 2 collezioni e 2 pre-collezioni: il tempo e la velocità erano tutto. Chi prima era in grado di catturare un trend, prima saliva in vetta. Ora ci stiamo spostando verso una moda più concettuale, con meno prodotti immessi sul mercato, ma credo che ci sarà più attenzione per creare un prodotto più distintivo e studiato.

A young entrepreneur from Padua (born in 1992), Alberto Franceschi, together with his brother Nicola, has succeeded in the endeavour that has been anything but easy of transforming the Hide&Jack brand into a bona fide ‘must-have’ item around the world, starting from an innovative and patented idea: a sneaker with an interchangeable Velcro upper, which allows a different personality for each model every day. Thus, since 2014, the founding year of the brand, Hide&Jack has taken a place of honour among the stars of international casual luxury. In the following interview, Alberto Franceschi speaks to us about the present and future of the brand.

What inspires your style?

“Hide&Jack is a brand inspired by the different personalities present in each one of us, because it allows the customer to present his/her own vision of the product through the various colours available for the sole and the patterns proposed for the upper. For this reason, when naming the brand, we decided to take our inspiration from the Scottish novel ‘Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde’: I believe it is important to keep this philosophy of minimal lines alive, while matching them however with strong colours that make an infinite variety of combinations possible in a genuine Hide&Jack mood”.

How important is Italian craft workmanship for you and why do you believe it is an added value?

“For me it is fundamental, I have always believed in it. Made in Italy is a trademark that makes us stand out around the world, and it must continue to be valued. If we don’t do this, we risk losing the unique know-how and quality our country is known for. We have many Asian and Russian customers who firmly believe in our manufacturing. Nevertheless, I am sorry to see many leading brands that prefer to outsource their production abroad, even if they have larger profit margins”.

In the current context dominated by the outbreak of the pandemic, on which new concepts are your working in the creation of your next collections?

“Covid-19 has reduced the possibilities of travelling and doing research to a minimum, and fashion is made up by emotions, sentiments, and freedom. All these concepts have been almost completely cancelled out, because we are forced to stay home and live in a state of ‘stand-by’. As a consequence, the collections are increasingly basic also because stylists and artists are afraid to take risks and

tend to absorb this ‘immobility’, which is then unavoidably reflected also in the products. Luckily, my staff is very young and together we are always searching for new inspirations and new ways to create innovative, and never ordinary, products”.

Do you play around with elements from the past in some way?

“In my opinion, elements from the past are very important and this is true to the extent that I am a little envious of iconic brands that can make full use of their historic archives when it’s time to dream up new ideas and inspirations. Hide&Jack does not have many years of history behind it, and it is exactly for this reason that I love to search for past elements that might inspire me by watching old movies or reading old magazines, which breathe new life into eras from long ago that are ready to be rediscovered”.

On which materials will you focus for your next collection?

“Our next collection is characterised by a use of many new and ecofriendly materials, because I believe today it is more important than ever before to do something to protect the environment or at least try to: there are extremely lightweight leathers that keep the feet fresher during the summer and we have substituted rubber soles with EVA, a material so lightweight that it conveys a sensation similar to floating when walking”.

What has struck you the most in this particular period we are all going through?

“I was quite struck by the solidarity of people and the way in which the world came together to try and defeat this aggressive virus. It’s like being at war with an enemy that you can’t hear or see”.

How do you think the world of fashion will change, if it changes?

“Unfortunately, fashion has already changed: it was a train that never stopped, but the pandemic was like a wall that made it change course for fear of crashing into it. In the past, work would begin the previous year for a collection that would then debut the year after, with a calendar that called for 2 collections and 2 pre-collections: time and speed were everything. Those who were able to capture a trend first immediately rose to the top. Now, we are moving towards a more conceptual fashion, with fewer products put out onto the market, but I believe that there will be more attention in creating a more distinctive and carefully designed product. After all, every cloud has its silver lining!”

Long live fashion!

L

’economia circolare come ispirazione e spunto creativo, non limitazione. Le sperimentazioni di queste due designer, PHOEBE ENGLISH e Juliana Garcia Bello di GARCIABELLO, portano agli estremi la sostenibilità delle loro collezioni con un sourcing rigorosamente locale e a zero waste.

La sostenibilità è da sempre il mantra di Phoebe English. Capi uomo e donna realizzati con cotone biologico, gomma naturale biodegradabile, bottoni realizzati con le proteine del latte o noci corozo e nylon prodotto con plastiche rinvenute negli oceani. Ma non era sufficiente. Presasi del tempo lontana dai riflettori delle sfilate e dedicato alle tecniche di produzione green, Phoebe English è tornata negli ultimi anni con un rinnovato proposito ecologico perché - dichiara - “noi siamo il problema e noi siamo la soluzione, o ci evolviamo ora o moriamo dopo”.

Per la collezione fw20-21, il passo è stato piuttosto estremo, decidendo di realizzarla a scarto zero e un uso minimo di filo per cuciture solamente con materie e accessori già presenti a Londra, base della stilista, eliminando così il più possibile la carbon footprint derivata dalla produzione e dal trasporto dei materiali. Non solo: la English ha chiamato all’appello designer di Londra per contribuire con i tessuti avanzati che avevano già nei loro atelier in modo che non venissero utilizzate risorse vergini. Dieci di loro si sono fatti avanti per contribuire alla realizzazione della sua collezione, nomi come Katharine Hamnett, Thornton Bregazzi e Martine Rose tra gli altri. Un esperimento di successo, che racconta anche l’utopia di una grande comunità della moda da cui poter attingere per quanto riguarda risorse e aiuto.

Anche la designer argentina Juliana Garcia Bello di Garciabello crea da sempre le sue collezioni donna col tocco genderfluid partendo da zero waste, upcycling e decostruzione/ricostruzione degli indumenti, tutti realizzati a mano dalla designer in un numero limitato. Ora di base a Arnhem (Olanda), la designer si ispira al concetto di ‘casa’ intesa sia come terra che come rifugio e alle emozioni rievocate dai suoi ricordi d’infanzia nella Terra del Fuoco. Collabora da tempo con varie cooperative tessili e piccoli produttori da cui acquista cotone organico e avanzi di materie prime.

L’ultima collezione, con cui ha perlatro vinto il REDRESS Award 2020 nella categoria “womenswear”, si chiama “Herencia” (“eredità”) ed è stata creata utilizzando tessili di scarto donati dai suoi vicini di casa, che l’hanno contattata grazie ai volantini che ha attaccato a tutti portoni del vicinato, incluso il suo. Successivamente la designer ha selezionato t-shirt, tovaglie, camicie e pezze di denim usati, scelti anche in base alla loro biodegradabilità, per poi tagliarli a pezzi e creare quindici nuovi look in perfetto equilibrio di economia circolare. Questa bellissima iniziativa le ha permesso anche di imparare a conoscere culture diverse e farsi nuovi amici.

“Mi piace sempre sapere a chi appartenevano i capi con cui lavoro, mi raccontano la loro storia”, afferma Juliana Garcia Bello.

Il suo scopo è quello di sottolineare ed esprimere l’importanza della relazione che abbiamo con i vestiti che indossiamo, a cui dovemmo tutti attribuire un valore emotivo per capire che riutilizzarli è fondamentale per il futuro del pianeta.

Il suo sogno è di poter insegnare alle nuove generazioni a pensare e creare in maniera sostenibile, ricordandosi sempre delle proprie origini. >

Circular economy as inspiration and creative fuel, not limitation. The experiments of these two designers, PHOEBE ENGLISH and Juliana Garcia Bello of GARCIABELLO, take the sustainability of their collections to extremes with local sourcing and zero-waste.

Phoebe English

Sustainability has always been the mantra of Phoebe English.

Men’s and women’s garments made from organic cotton, biodegradable natural rubber, buttons made from milk protein or palm nuts and nylon produced with plastic found in the oceans. But that wasn’t enough. After taking some time away from the fashion scene to dedicate herself to learning in depth about green production techniques, Phoebe English has returned in recent years with a renewed ecological purpose because – as she declares – “we are the problem and we are the solution, if we don’t evolve now, later we die .”

For the FW20-21 collection the step was rather extreme, deciding to make it with zero waste and minimal use of sewing thread, using only materials and accessories already present in London, the designer’s base, thus eliminating the carbon footprint derived from the production and transport of materials. And that’s not all: English called on London designers to contribute with the leftover fabrics they already had in their ateliers so that no virgin resources would be used. Ten of them came forward to help create her collection, names such as Katharine Hamnett, Thornton Bregazzi and Martine Rose among others. A successful experiment, which also uncovers the utopia of a large fashion community from which one can draw resources and help.

Argentine designer Juliana Garcia Bello of Garciabello has also been creating her women’s collections with a gender fluid touch from zero waste, focusing on the upcycling and deconstruction/reconstruction of garments, all handmade by the designer in limited numbers. Now based in Arnhem (the Netherlands), the designer is inspired by the concept of ‘home’ as both land and a refuge and by the emotions evoked by her childhood memories in Terra del Fuego. She has long been collaborating with various textile cooperatives and small producers from whom she purchases organic cotton and leftover raw materials.

The new collection, which won the REDRESS Award 2020 in the “womenswear” category, is called “Herencia” (“inheritance”) and was created using discarded textiles donated by her neighbours, who contacted her thanks to the flyers she attached to all the doors in the neighbourhood, including her own. The designer then selected used t-shirts, tablecloths, shirts and pieces of denim, also chosen based on their biodegradability, and cut them up to create fifteen new looks in a perfect balance of circular economy. This wonderful initiative has also allowed her to learn about different cultures and make new friends. “I always like to know who the garments I work with belong to, they tell me their story,” says Juliana Garcia Bello.

Her goal is to underline and express the importance of the relationship we have with the clothes we wear, to which we should all attach an emotional value in order to understand that re-using them is fundamental for the future of the planet. Her dream is to be able to teach new generations to think and create in a sustainable way, always remembering their origins.

In un 2020 fatto di passerelle digitali, live show sui social e nuovi meccanismi di e-commerce come lo shop streaming, un fenomeno che ha subìto una significativa accelerazione nel lusso è quello della Fashion Gamification.

contenuta, i videogiochi consentono di trasportare gli utenti in un ambiente digitale popolato da elementi che rispecchiano la brand identity in maniera spiritosa e coinvolgente. Fare storytelling, giochi, quiz e raccolte punti possono rappresentare ottimi strumenti per sviluppare la narrazione relativa al marchio in modo creativo.

La gamification permette di fornire un’esperienza immersiva con lo sviluppo di customer journey innovativi e customizzati. Secondo una ricerca condotta dagli studenti del Master in Fashion, Experience & Design Management di SDA Bocconi, promossa da Salesforce in collaborazione con Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, i giovani ricercano il coinvolgimento da parte dei fashion brand prima, durante e dopo la fase di acquisto. Le dinamiche dei videogame sono adatte anche in ottica di lancio e promozione di nuovi prodotti in modo innovativo e coinvolgente. Traendo spunto dai giocatori che sono mossi dall’irrefrenabile curiosità verso “il livello successivo”, le aziende di moda possono svelare le proprie collezioni attraverso percorsi interattivi che, soprattutto grazie alla realtà aumentata, riducono la distanza fisica con i consumatori. Come sottolinea inoltre Zsuzsa Kecsmar, CCO and Co-founder di Antavo (piattaforma per la gestione della fidelizzazione per aziende e retail) “Un programma di loyalty può davvero funzionare in questo settore, senza che l’immagine del marchio venga sminuita”. I clienti del lusso, per sentirsi davvero legati a un brand, devono percepire di ricevere un “trattamento VIP” in grado di ricompensarli. Attraverso la gamification, le aziende di moda possono regalare agli utenti un assaggio di esclusività. E, più banalmente, la raccolta di contatti attraverso la registrazione per accedere alla piattaforma dei giochi consente una profilazione accurata con un database con le informazioni sugli individui, rendendo più semplice offrire servizi, promozioni e contenuti davvero su misura. Luxury brand avantissimo nella Digital Communication già da diverse stagioni è Burberry, che nel 2019 ha ricevuto uno Special Award per essere da tre anni al top dell’eccellenza digitale.

Prendiamo l’esempio di B Bounce e B Surf, in cui gli avatar indossano monogram puffer jacket a scelta. Per i partecipanti sono stati pensati diversi regali, dalle gif personalizzabili alle giacche Burberry virtuali. ensare al gaming come qualcosa di nicchia, fatto per i nerd e distaccato dal mondo reale, significa sottovalutare un fenomeno di portata mondiale. Una ricerca di Nielsen ha dimostrato che i gamer non sono più “solo i ragazzini”: il 54% ha un lavoro a tempo pieno, il 46% ha figli e il 43% ha almeno una laurea. Senza parlare dei Millennial: 7 su 10 usano piattaforme di streaming per guardare contenuti di gaming per almeno 6 ore alla settimana. In questo momento in cui l’affluenza nelle boutique deve essere

Cina e Corea. Burberry è stato inoltre il primo fashion luxury brand a collaborare con Twitch. Durante la Fashion Week di settembre 2020, l’azienda britannica ha utilizzato la piattaforma di streaming di proprietà Amazon per presentare le sue collezioni PE 2021. Gli utenti hanno assistito a una sfilata nei boschi inglesi in un allestimento circolare ideato dall’artista Anne Imhof, accompagnato dalla musica di Eliza Douglas. Oltre a scoprire i capi da più prospettive, i partecipanti hanno avuto la possibilità di interagire in diretta grazie alla chat.

Recentemente il brand inglese ha consolidato una partnership con Tencent Games, azienda cinese proprietaria di WeChat, per inserire i propri prodotti nel videogame di punta Honour of Kings. Honor of Kings è un gioco MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) con 100 milioni di utenti attivi ogni giorno in tutto il mondo. È uno dei giochi con il maggior incasso al mondo con il 54% di giocatori di sesso femminile, fattore estremamente appetibile.

Anche Christian Louboutin durante la Paris Fashion Week 2020 ha realizzato una presentazione virtuale creata con Zepeto, un’app nata in Corea del Sud con cui le persone possono interagire come su un social network tramite un avatar tridimensionale creato partendo da un selfie. Il designer ha presentato la collezione Spring/ Summer 2021 attraverso il suo alter ego virtuale in una Parigi rivisitata in versione techno-kawaii. Il progetto, intitolato “Loubi World”, ha permesso agli utenti di provare scarpe e abiti, assistere allo show della cantante-avatar King Princess e “incontrare” lo stilista.

Ma anche Gucci non è da meno con la sua app Gucci Arcade, lanciata nel 2019, che propone una sezione ispirata alle sale gioco degli anni ‘70 e ‘80 in cui vengono raffigurati i simboli più rappresentativi della label. Lo scorso anno il primo videogioco proposto è stato Gucci Bee, con protagonista un’ape intrappolata in un labirinto, nella quale è possibile collezionare badge e scoprire elementi per ottenere punti extra. L’azienda ha poi lanciato Gucci Ace, un luogo virtuale che combina passato, presente e futuro del brand in cui è possibile ripercorrere l’evoluzione dell’iconica sneaker Ace nel corso dei decenni. Ognuno dei tre livelli rappresenta un’epoca precisa nella storia dei videogame. Il primo è dedicato ai giochi rétro a 8-bit, il secondo all’epoca delle console, mentre il livello più alto svela il futuro dei giochi per dispositivi mobile.

Emblematico è il caso di Drest, una gaming app ‘shoppable’ ad argomento fashion styling in cui gli utenti si sfidano nel creare dei look ad hoc, accumulando crediti per l’utilizzo di capi di famosi brand tra cui Gucci, Puma, Burberry, Prada, Stella McCartney, Off-White, Chloé, Loewe, Valentino e altri. Il recente lancio di Drest x Supermodels aggiunge avatar 3D iperrealistici di alcune delle top model più famose e una sfida per creare editoriali virtuali. Le versioni CGI di Natalia Vodianova, Precious Lee, Irina Shayk, Imaan Hammam e Candice Huffine sono disponibili per i servizi fotografici interattivi di Drest, ma sono più di semplici manichini. Selezionate personalmente dalla creatrice (e ex fashion editor di Harper’s Bazaar UK) Lucy Yeomans per riflettere il panorama della moda in questo momento, le modelle rappresentano una gamma di età, body shape e nazionalità differenti. Inoltre quando gli utenti prenoteranno una Supermodel, il 5% del loro “booking” verrà donato a un ente di beneficenza scelto dalle modelle e Drest si impegna a regalare alle rispettive cause il 50% dei guadagni dalle Supermodel nel gioco. Anche Louis Vuitton ha ceduto al fascino della gamification. Nel 2019 ha lanciato Endless Runner, videogioco ispirato al paesaggio urbano newyorkese e allo stile anni ’80 presente nella sfilata uomo A/I 2019 svoltasi a Parigi all’inizio dell’anno. Lo stesso anno, l’azienda francese ha siglato una partnership con la statunitense Riot Games in occasione del campionato mondiale di League of Legends 2019, eSport diventato un fenomeno globale. Il brand ha realizzato un ‘baule’ per contenere la Summoner’s Cup, il trofeo assegnato ai campioni del mondo di questa competizione. Dalla collaborazione è nata anche una collezione, Louis Vuitton X League of Legends. La Maison francese e l’azienda americana hanno confermato il sodalizio anche quest’anno, firmando gli abiti delle K/DA, gruppo di superstar musicali virtuali che si è ‘esibito’ durante la Cerimonia d’apertura dei Mondiali 2020. E’ facile ipotizzare che il gaming avrà sempre più peso, anche nel mondo della moda. Il potenziamento del digitale accelerato dalla pandemia e la necessità di trovare strade alternative per avvicinare i nuovi consumatori (Gen Z e Millennials) hanno rafforzato il rapporto tra i due mondi rendendolo un caposaldo della strategia per lo sviluppo della customer experience delle label. Dagli stream di Twitch all’abbigliamento per l’e-sport, la ludicizzazione della moda ha probabilmente appena iniziato la sua corsa. >

In a 2020 made of digital catwalks, live shows on social networks and new e-commerce mechanisms, such as shopping in live streaming, a phenomenon that has significantly picked up speed in the luxury industry is Fashion Gamification.

To think of gaming as something niche, only for nerds and detached from the real world, means underestimating a worldwide phenomenon. Research by Nielsen has shown that gamers are no longer “just kids”: 54% have full-time jobs, 46% have children and 43% have at least a university degree. Then there are Millennials: 7 out of 10 use streaming platforms to watch gaming content for at least 6 hours a week. At a time when boutique affluence needs to be contained, video games allow users to be transported into a digital world populated by elements that reflect the brand identity in a fun and engaging way. Storytelling, games, quizzes and points collection can be great tools for developing brand narratives in a creative way. Gamification can provide an immersive experience with the development of innovative and customised customer journeys. According to a survey conducted by students of the SDA Bocconi master’s course in Fashion, Experience & Design Management, promoted by Salesforce in collaboration with the Italian Chamber of Fashion, young people are looking for the involvement of fashion brands before, during and after the purchase.

The dynamics of video games are also an innovative and engaging way to launch and promote new products. Taking their cue from the unstoppable curiosity of players to reach the “next level”, fashion companies can unveil their collections through interactive paths that, thanks to augmented reality especially, reduce the physical distance with consumers. As Zsuzsa Kecsmar, CCO and co-founder of Antavo (a loyalty management platform for business and retail).

“A loyalty programme can indeed work in this industry without cheapening the brand image.” In order to feel truly connected to a brand, luxury customers need to perceive that they are receiving a “VIP treatment” that rewards them. Gamification allows fashion companies to give users a taste of exclusivity. And, more simply, the collection of contacts through registration to access the games platform allows accurate profiling with a database containing information on individuals, making it easier to offer truly bespoke services, promotions and content. A luxury brand that has been at the forefront of Digital Communication for several seasons now is Burberry. In 2019, it received a Special Award for being at the top of digital excellence for three years. Take the example of B Bounce and B Surf, in which the avatars wear monogram puffer jackets of their choice. Participants were given various gifts, from customisable gifs to virtual Burberry jackets. There was also a prize, obviously the most coveted and tangible: a real jacket from the latest Burberry down jacket collec-

tion, up for grabs for gamers from the UK, USA, Canada, Japan, China and Korea. Burberry was also the first luxury fashion brand to collaborate with Twitch. During Fashion Week in September 2020, the British company used the Amazon-owned streaming platform to showcase its SS 2021 collection. Users were treated to a fashion show set in the English woods inside a circular installation designed by the artist Anne Imhof and accompanied by the music of Eliza Douglas. In addition to discovering the garments from multiple perspectives, participants were able to interact live via chat. The British brand recently entered into a partnership with Tencent Games, the Chinese company that owns WeChat, to include its products in the flagship video game, Honour of Kings, a MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) game with more than 100 million daily active users worldwide. It is one of the highest-grossing video games in the world, where 54% of the players are female, an extremely appealing factor. During Paris Fashion Week 2020, Christian Louboutin created a virtual universe on the South Korean gaming platform, Zepeto. The app allows users to interact with each other, just like on any other social network, via a 3D avatar created from a selfie. The designer presented the SS 2021 collection via his virtual alter ego in a techno-Kawai version of Paris. The project entitled “Loubi World” allowed users to try on shoes and clothes, catch a performance by the singer-avatar King Princess and “meet” the designer.

Gucci also had a similar concept with its Gucci Arcade app, launched in 2019, which features a section inspired by the arcades of the 70s and 80s where the most representative symbols of the

label are depicted. The first video game to be launched was Gucci Bee, featuring a bee trapped in a maze that players must free while collecting badges and discovering special elements to score extra points. The company then launched Gucci Ace, a virtual place that links the past, present and future of the brand, allowing users to explore the evolution of the iconic Gucci Ace sneaker. Each of the three levels represents a specific era in the history of video games.

The first level is dedicated to the 8-bit retro gaming of the past, the second one is set in the era of console gaming, while the third level unveils the future of mobile gaming.

An emblematic case is Drest, a ‘shoppable’ gaming app in which users compete against each other to create their own looks, earning credits for the use of garments from famous brands such as Gucci, Puma, Burberry, Prada, Stella McCartney, Off-White, Chloé, Loewe, Valentino and others. The recent launch of Drest x Supermodels adds hyper-realistic 3D avatars of some of the most famous supermodels and a challenge to create virtual editorials. The CGI versions of Natalia Vodianova, Precious Lee, Irina Shayk, Imaan Hammam and Candice Huffine are available for Drest’s interactive photo shoots, but they are more than just mannequins. Personally selected by creator (and former Harper’s Bazaar UK fashion editor) Lucy Yeomans to reflect the current fashion landscape, the models represent a range of different ages, body shapes and nationalities.

Furthermore, when users book a Supermodel, 5% of the booking

fee will be donated to a charity of the model’s choice and Drest has pledged to donate 50% of what the Supermodels earn in the game to their respective causes. Louis Vuitton has also succumbed to the allure of gamification. In 2019, it launched Endless Runner, a video game inspired by the New York cityscape and the 80s style featured in the A/W 2019 men’s fashion show held in Paris earlier in the year. The same year, the French company signed a partnership with US-based Riot Games for the 2019 League of Legends world championship, an eSport that has become a global phenomenon.

The brand created a “trophy case” to contain the Summoner’s Cup, the trophy awarded yearly to the world champions of this competition. The collaboration also resulted in a collection called “Louis Vuitton X League of Legends”.

The French fashion house and the US company reconfirmed their partnership this year by designing the clothes of K/DA, a group of virtual music superstars who ‘performed’ at the Opening Ceremony of the 2020 World Cup. It is easy to assume that gaming will become increasingly important, even in the world of fashion. The rise of digital technology accelerated by the pandemic and the need to find alternative ways of approaching new customers (Gen Z and Millennials) have strengthened the relationship between the two worlds, making it a cornerstone of the strategy for developing the customer experience of labels. From Twitch streams to e-sports apparel, the gamification of fashion has just begun.

Nicoletta Deva Tortone An intimate look into humanity

L

e sue foto sono diari di vita cuciti a mano con un filo rosso che ne tesse la trama, come in un racconto. E l’umanità è al centro delle sue creazioni, commistione sapiente di fotografia, pittura e collage. Spesso le immagini sono sviluppate in negativo per mostrare un nuovo punto di vista da cui guardare la realtà, uno sguardo meno consueto e capace di riservare sorprese nello spettatore. Per comprendere al meglio le sue opere è però opportuno partire dal suo stesso percorso professionale e artistico, che appare insolito e ne condiziona l’intera arte. Nata a Racconigi, in provincia di Cuneo, il 9 agosto del 1960, nel ’65 Nicoletta si trasferisce con la famiglia a Torino dove si diploma in Fotografia nel 1979. I suoi primi lavori sono nell’ambito della moda. Negli anni ’80 lavora, infatti, nel campo della Moda e del Teatro a Torino, dove è apprezzata per il suo talento, ma nel 1988 decide di intraprendere una nuova avventura di vita e di lavoro andando a lavorare come fotografa nei villaggi turistici Club Med. Ed è proprio qui che la sua attenzione si sposta sulla sfera più intima e personale dell’essere umano, quella che ruota attorno alle sensazioni e alle emozioni.

Nel rapporto quotidiano con persone sempre diverse, provenienti da ogni parte del mondo e con vissuti così eterogenei, si sviluppa nell’arte di Nicoletta la ricerca spasmodica del lato umano, scatto dopo scatto. Il suo lavoro, così prolifico e in grado di toccare le corde più profonde dello spettatore, è stato esposto in importanti rassegne d’arte e fotografia come le edizioni di Paratissima Art Fair di Torino, Milano e Bologna, ma anche a Mia Photo Fair a Milano e presso Artender ad Alassio.

Her photos are life-long diaries stitched by hand with a red thread that weaves together a pattern, just like in a story. And humanity is at the heart of her creations, skilled blends of photography, painting and collage. Often a negative image is developed to show a new point of view from which reality can be seen, a more unusual perspective capable of reserving surprises for the spectator. To better understand her works it is best to start from her fairly unusual artistic and professional pathway, which has gone on to condition her art. Born in Racconigi, in the province of Cuneo, on August 9th, 1960, in ’65 Nicoletta moved to Turin with her family, where she got her high school diploma in 1979 in Photography. Her first jobs were in the fashion industry, and in 1980, she began working in the field of Fashion and Theatre in Turin, where she was recognized for her talent. In 1988, however, she decided to begin a new life’s adventure and start down a new career pathway by working as a photographer for the Club Med tourist resort. It is here that she started focusing on the more intimate and personal side of human nature, including especially that which revolves around sensations and emotions. In her daily interaction with an ever-changing array of different people coming from all parts of the world with a vast range of diversified experiences, shot after shot, the art of Nicoletta began to painstakingly analyse and reveal human nature.

Her work, which is extremely inventive and capable of striking a profound note with spectators, has been shown at important art and photography events like the editions of Paratissima Art Fair in Turin, Milan, and Bologna, but also at Mia Photo Fair in Milan, and at Artender in Alassio.

Fresca di lancio lo scorso 1 ottobre 2020, lordh.it è una piattaforma di nuova concezione creata da Lorenzo Gramegna, designer e modellista per una delle più rinomate aziende del distretto calzaturiero del Brenta. Il concept è semplice e al contempo accattivante: creare calzature da uomo fatte ‘come una volta’, ma accessibili a tutti i piedi e a tutte le tasche, con un livello qualitativo e di comfort distintivo. La piattaforma propone, infatti, 8 modelli iconici dell’eleganza maschile, come derby, oxford, beatles, monkstrap, realizzati da calzaturifici del distretto partenopeo con tecniche ad “alto impatto artigianale” come piace definire a Lorenzo, modelli che possono poi essere ‘personalizzati’ secondo le richieste del cliente, a partire dalla colorazione, che avviene ‘in capo’. Alle calzature si sono intanto già aggiunte le cinture e, con la prossima primavera, arriveranno anche nuovi modelli meno strutturati, che affiancheranno quelli heritage.

Amedeo Testoni, brand di calzature e accessori di lusso nato a Bologna nel 1929, rinnova con la PE21 i suoi valori di artigianalità e tradizione accompagnati da ricerca e sviluppo costanti, per offrire al mercato prodotti di assoluta eccellenza. Per la proposta estiva, a.testoni raggiunge livelli altissimi di artigianalità nella patinatura bicolore che, tamponando manualmente la calzatura, crea dissolvenze e sfumature dai toni irripetibili. Icone della collection sono l’elegante francesina in morbida pelle, costruzione Piuma Rapid che conferisce leggerezza, comfort e flessibilità, caratterizzata dalle intense e raffinate tonalità che vanno dal “rosso Bologna” al caramel. Newly launched this past 1 October 2020, lordh.it is a cutting-edge platform created by Lorenzo Gramegna, shoe designer and pattern maker for one of the most renowned companies in the Brenta footwear manufacturing district. The concept is simple and striking at the same time: create ‘old-fashioned’ men’s shoes suitable for all foot types and all budgets, which are both high quality and extremely comfortable. The platform in fact proposes 8 iconic men’s models of great elegance, including the derby, the Oxford, the Beatle boot, and the monk strap, which are all crafted in Naples using what Lorenzo calls ‘high-impact artisanal’ techniques, models that can then be ‘customised’ in accordance with customer requests, starting from the colour, which is piece-dyed. The footwear has already been joined by a line of belts, and in the spring, new models that are less structured will also join the ranks of the heritage models.

Ispirata alla metropoli milanese e i suoi progetti virtuosi come ForestaMI, la collezione Milano+ racconta l’impegno di Fielmann alla sostenibilità con due esclusivi modelli femminili di occhiali – uno da vista e l’altro da sole – che coniugano uno stile essenziale e raffinato con materiali naturali. Sviluppata con il designer italiano Marco Collavo, la collezione ha montature in bio acetato, polimero riciclabile al 100% derivato dai semi del cotone e dalle fibre del legno, il cui contenuto riconducibile all’origine naturale raggiunge il 68%. Le lenti sono in bionylon e includono il 39% di resine di origine vegetale e monomeri a base biologica. Anche gli accessori sono concepiti in chiave green e multifunzionale: la custodia in dark re-nlon che diventa una dinamica pouch, la macrocatena in plexi riciclato che diventa una collana grazie a ganci studiati ad hoc, la string in neoprene rigenerato.

Developed with Italian designer Marco Collavo, the collection features frames in bio acetate, 100% recyclable polymer derived from cotton seeds and wood fibre, the content of which arrives at 68% natural origins. Ventiquattro fashion show e performance: l’edizione che segna il 25.mo anniversario della Fashion Week portoghese ha presentato le collezioni spring-summer 2021 di stilisti e brand rinomati come Alexandra Moura, David Catalán Hugo Costa, Júlio Torcato, Luís Onofre, Maria Gambina, Marques’Almeida, Miguel Vieira, Katty Xiomara, Sophia Kah e il debutto di Ernest W. Backer assieme ai giovani designer della piattaforma Bloom dedicata ai nuovi talenti. Una tre giorni, dal 15 al 17 ottobre 2020 che, per rispondere alle nuove norme di sicurezza imposte dall’emergenza sanitaria, ha contingentato le presenze (ridotte a 200 persone per evento) alternando ai catwalk in presenza le dirette streaming. Un format phygital che ha permesso di compensare le limitazioni e dare il massimo risalto alla personalità di ogni collezione, scoprire le loro storie, le costruzioni e la qualità delle proposte.

La cornice dell’evento è stata ancora una volta Alfândega do Porto con le sue suggestive location, un set dove attraverso cortometraggi e performance i designer hanno dato libero sfogo ad una moda nuova, tra fisica e digitale, più che mai espressiva.

Three days of full immersion among fashion shows with physical attendance and live streaming presentations, which enlivened the spring-summer 2021 fashion collections, while highlighting the creativity of Portuguese designers.

Twenty-four fashion shows and performances: the edition that marked the 25th anniversary of Portuguese Fashion Week presented the spring-summer 2021 collections of stylists and renowned brands like Alexandra Moura, David Catalán Hugo Costa, Júlio Torcato, Luís Onofre, Maria Gambina, Marques’Almeida, Miguel Vieira, Katty Xiomara, Sophia Kah along with the debut of Ernest W. Backer together with young designers from the Bloom platform dedicated to new talents. Three days, from 15 to 17 October 2020, which in order to comply with new safety restrictions resulting from the healthcare emergency had to limit the number of participants (reduced to 200 people per event) alternating the catwalk shows with live streaming. A phygital format allowed these limitations to be overcome, while fully highlighting the personality of each collections, discovering their stories, constructions, and the quality of the proposals.

The setting of the event was once again Alfândega do Porto with its striking locations, where with short films and performances, the designers gave free reign to a new kind of fashion, between physical and digital, which is more expressive than ever before.

l via il 1° marzo la prima Virtual Hong Kong International Fur & Fashion Fair: una quattro giorni all’insegna della moda e della creatività del mondo della pellicceria, con le collezioni protagoniste di presentazioni e live-streaming

Come molte altre fiere del settore moda, anche Hong Kong International Fur & Fashion Fair adotta un format digitale per la sua edizione prevista dal 1° al 4 marzo 2021. “Una scelta strategica per continuare a servire al meglio l’industria della pellicceria globale, dichiarano gli organizzatori della Hong Kong Fur Federation, - che da ormai quarant’anni fa riferimento alla manifestazione come uno degli appuntamenti più importanti a livello globale del settore”.

La nuova piattaforma digitale è stata sviluppata per permettere ad espositori e buyer provenienti da oltre 30 diverse nazionalità di incontrarsi in un ambiente dal facile accesso, dove potranno sfruttare al meglio le opportunità offerte da una comunicazione istantanea e da un avanzato motore di ricerca dei prodotti che farà accedere ai contenuti di creatività delle collezioni.

Ma non solo, accanto all’esposizione virtuale, la piattaforma ospiterà un ampio programma di live-streaming, dalle sfilate che daranno modo ai buyer di cogliere le tendenze moda e apprezzare l’eccezionale artigianalità delle collezioni in passerella, offrendo spunti di ispirazione per la loro campagna di acquisti, agli show individuali dei brand con le loro favolose proposte. Taking place on the 1st of March is the first-ever Virtual Hong Kong International Fur & Fashion Fair: four days in the spirit of fashion and creativity in the world of fur, with the collections starring as the protagonists of presentations and live streaming events Like many other fairs in the fashion industry, also the Hong Kong International Fur & Fashion Fair has adopted a digital format for its edition expected to run from 1 to 4 March 2021. “A strategic choice to continue serving the industry of global fur to the best of our ability, - declare the organisers of the Hong Kong Fur Federation, - which over the last forty years has referred to the event as one of the most important sector fairs on a global level”.

The new digital platform was developed to allow exhibitors and buyers coming from over 30 different nations to meet up in an easy to access environment, where they will be able to make the most of the opportunities offered by instantaneous communication and an advanced product search engine, which will provide access to the creative contents of the collections.

Plus, next to the virtual exhibition, the platform will host an extensive programme of live streaming events, from fashion shows that will allow buyers to view the latest trends and appreciate the artisanal excellence of the collections on the catwalk, offering ideas for inspiration for their purchasing campaigns, to the individual shows of brand with their fabulous proposals. Signals of hope from MODTISSIMO

l settore tessile portoghese che nel 2019 ha registrato un volume di affari attestato attorno ai 7,7 miliardi di euro, un terzo dei quali generati dall’export, è tornato a confrontarsi con il suo pubblico internazionale a MODTISSIMO il 23 e 24 settembre 2020 ad Alfândega do Porto.

The Portuguese textile industry, which in 2019 recorded a turnover of around 7.7 billion euros, with a third of its revenue generated by exports, returned to meet up with its international public at MODTISSIMO on 23 and 24 September 2020 at Alfândega do Porto.

Uno dei pochi eventi in presenza del settore tessile in Europa, MODTISSIMO, nonostante il momento atipico che stiamo attraversando ha mantenuto il suo ruolo di acceleratore del business di settore mettendo a contatto oltre duecento aziende che hanno esposto collezioni che vanno dalla materia prima all’abbigliamento, con i loro clienti nazionali e internazionali. E proprio su quest’ultimo versante arriva la sorpresa di un +25% di buyer stranieri, che porta lo share sulle presenze dal 10% della precedente edizione al 12,5% dell’attuale: “In questi tempi di incertezza – dichiara Manuel Serrão, Ceo di Selectiva Moda organizzatrice dell’evento – MODTISSIMO ha rappresentato un simbolo di speranza: la sensazione raccolta è che in qualche moda si stesse facendo la storia, e di un settore che sta uscendo lentamente da sei mesi di forti cali di fatturato”.

Tema dell’evento, “Linked”, ha voluto rafforzare l’immagine di una industria tessile sempre più collegata ai temi della digitalizzazione e della sostenibilità. Da un parte con la crescente vicinanza dei contatti face-to-face e l’impiego di nuove tecnologie, dall’altra con un rispetto per la natura che si manifesta nell’investimento sulle fibre sostenibili e sulla produzione responsabile.

Ad arricchire di contenuti la manifestazione, il Green Circus Forum e l’iTechStyle Showcase, vetrine dell’innovazione tessile, hanno messo in mostra i progetti di ricerca più avanzati in tema di tessuti tecnici che si caratterizzano per il contenuto tecnologico e la performance, per diverse industrie, dalla moda all’automotive, all’healthcare.

One of the few events in the European textile industry to be held with physical participation, despite the atypical moment we are experiencing, MODTISSIMO managed to fulfil its role of accelerating business, by bringing over two hundred textile companies with their collections that range from raw materials to clothing into contact with their national and international customers. With regards to the latter, there was a surprising additional +25% of international buyers, resulting in an increase in the foreign share from 10% of the previous edition to the actual 12.5%. “In these times of uncertainty – declared Manuel Serrão, CEO of Selectiva Moda, which organises the event – MODTISSIMO represented a symbol of hope: there is a feeling that history is somehow being made, with a sector that is slowly coming out of six months of significant drops in revenue”.

“Linked”, the theme of the event, reinforced the image of a textile industry that is increasingly closer to sustainability and digitalisation. From one end, with growing proximity between face-to-face contacts and new technologies, while from the other end, there is a respect for nature that comes across through investments in sustainable fibres and responsible production.

Enriching the contents of the event, the Green Circus Forum and iTechStyle Showcase, the main innovation forums for textiles, highlighted the most cutting-edge research and development projects including technical textiles that are characterised by a high technological content and performance, for different industries, from fashion to automotive and healthcare.
