uando si può definire “epico” il numero di una rivista?

Dunque, se per Epica intendiamo la raccolta di leggende e poemi che raccontano la storia di interi popoli, allora credo che questo numero possa, a buon diritto, dirsi epico. Si parla, infatti, di leggende che hanno scritto la storia del cinema, della moda, del costume in generale, e non di un solo popolo, ma di quasi tutto il mondo. Si incontra chi la storia desidera scriverla con tutte le proprie forze, scolpire il proprio nome a chiare lettere sulla targa degli eroi appesa alle pendici dell’Olimpo.

E se l’epica è pervasa di eroi, in un numero epico non possono mancare dei veri e propri miti, come un John Travolta in magnifica forma, affascinante, il cui solo sguardo ti trascina in un infinito piano sequenza di immagini e mosse, in un trailer lungo 45 anni di carriera.

Nelle saghe e nelle epopee non può mancare il fascino della saggezza. Valentino Garavani - raccontato da Giusi Ferré - può bastare come nume tutelare di stile italiano, senza confini né paragoni?

Le sue parole sanno di melodie lontane, quelle pure, semplicemente belle e immortali.

E da chi la storia l’ha già scritta (e continua a scriverla), a chi la legge e la vorrebbe emulare. Sono giovani, hanno uno sguardo magnifico che parla di sacrifici, gioia, volontà di ferro e magia, di abilità e istinto. When can the issue of a magazine be called “epic”? If by Epica we mean the collection of legends and poems that tell the story of entire populations, then I believe that, with good reason, this issue can be called epic. In fact, we talk about legends that have written the history of cinema, fashion, costume in general, and not just of one population, but of almost the whole world. You meet those who really want to write it with all their heart, carving their name very clearly on the plate of the heroes that hangs on the slopes of Olympus.

And if the epic have plenty of heroes, in an epic issue we can’t help but having real myths, like John Travolta in great shape and fascinating, whose glance drags you into an infinite sequence of images and moves, in a 45-year long career trailer.

In sagas and epics, the charm of wisdom cannot be missing. Will Valentino Garavani - recounted by Giusi Ferré – do as tutelary deity of Italian style, without boundaries or comparisons? His words seem pure distant melodies, simply beautiful and immortal.

They are young, they have a magnificent look that speaks of sacrifices, joy, iron will and magic, of skill and instinct. ’hanno ribattezzata “Male Beauty Era” ed è l’ultima notizia che ci si aspetterebbe di trovare sui giornali cinesi.

Perché il mercato della bellezza maschile, secondo le rivelazioni di Alibaba, cresce nell’ex Impero di Mezzo a riti più sostenuti di quelli femminili con incrementi che negli ultimi anni hanno superato il 140%. E le stime dicono che entro il 2021 il mercato raggiungerà la considerevole cifra di 166 milioni di dollari.

Sono i giovani laureati e i quarantenni in carriera i principali acquirenti di creme per il corpo e per i capelli, fondotinta, eyeliner, profumi. Tutti concepiti per la pelle cinese, come già succede per le donne. È un business, la grande bellezza, che si realizza soprattutto online e con i prodotti di alta gamma e di lusso. Ma se pensate che i più richiesti siano dopobarba e mousse per le rasature, siete in errore: risultano essere i più ricercati e venduti il correttore della pelle per uomini lanciato da Tom Ford e il sublimatore di colorito o de hanel A dare la pennellata finale a uesto uadro insolito è la storia di Lipstick Brother, “Fratello Rossetto”: nome d’arte di Li Jia i, il pi in uente beaut blogger per uomo È ga , ma anche lo specchio perfetto della cosmetica maschile in generale.

Basta pensare che per testare rossetti, emettere i suoi giudizi su Tabao (la più grande piattaforma e-commerce del Dragone, di proprietà di Alibaba) e favorirne le vendite, in un solo anno ha guadagnato mezzo milione di dollari. Oltre ad avere convinto lo stesso Jack Ma, che di Alibaba è l’ideatore e fondatore, a riceverlo quando voleva proporgli la sua grande idea: vendere rossetti anche agli uomini.

Secondo Beautystreams, una compagnia parigina specializzata in tendenze cosmetiche mondiali, i nuovi prodotti di bellezza che contengono fiori ed erbe usati da secoli anche nell’ambito dell’alimentazione (così naturali che potreste anche mangiarli, li esaltano le pubblicità) stanno configurando una nuova immagine del Made in China, rivolgendosi prima di tutto ai nuovi consumatori nazionali, quindi al resto del mondo. Spiega Michael Nolte, direttore creativo di Beautystreams e autore di un approfondito report sul fenomeno: “Il Governo cinese ha varato un ambizioso progetto per finanziare la crescita di innovazione, ricerca e qualità in dieci diversi settori industriali, che includono, per esempio, l’intelligenza artificiale, la tecnologia e la stessa cosmetica per aumentare la credibilità del mercato cinese ed esportare eccellenza”.

E aggiunge: “I consumatori cinesi stanno cambiando rapidamente e in particolare i giovanissimi, benestanti, ora preferiscono il Made in China. Purché si tratti di prodotti costosi perché li ritengono migliori. I nati dal 1990 in poi vivono una nuova forma di patriottismo.

no sprazzo di verde in centro a Milano. Mi colpisce sempre questo variegato e quieto angolo di natura, tanto che i miei passi rallentano d’istinto.

Eppure vado di fretta, nonostante sia domenica pomeriggio. Perché a questo appuntamento non si può certo tardare. ra i rami scorgo le finestre dell’hotel, ciò significa che si avvicina il momento dell’incontro e, vi sembrerà strano, non posso fare a meno di chiedermi come saranno le sue mani.

Sì, proprio le sue mani. È qualche giorno che mi ronza in testa questo pensiero: le mani di John Travolta hanno scritto la storia del cinema. Anzi, di più, hanno segnato la cultura popolare degli ultimi quarant’anni! erché chi di noi non ha mai, almeno una volta nella vita, gra ato il cielo con l’indice puntato verso le stelle, in un gesto di piena e totale gioia ‘in giacca bianca’? Chi di noi non ha accarezzato l’occhio destro con il dorso delle dita a V, ammiccando alla ‘nostra’ Uma Thurman? hi di noi non ha sognato di afferrare un pettine e passarlo tra i capelli con quel gesto ritmico, sensuale e inconfondibile, sperando di indossare lo stesso sguardo di Danny Zuko?

Sciocchi pensieri che mi accompagnano alla porta della stanza pronta ad aprirsi sul mito, su John Travolta. E quando gli chiedo un aneddoto legato alla pellicola: «Ricordo la prima sera che ci siamo incontrati e la nottata passata a divertirci con i giochi da tavola di “Saturday Night Fever”, “Grease” e “Welcome Back, Kotter”».

John è in Italia per promuovere la sua ultima pellicola, “The Fanatic”, al Festival del Cinema di Roma (non perdetevi la sua impagabile espressione mentre, in una scena del film, in attesa di un autografo, guarda fuori dalla fila per sbirciare il suo idolo) Qualche ora dopo il nostro incontro racconterà in TV quanto il cinema gli abbia cambiato la vita: «Avevo 7 anni quando ho visto “La Strada” di Fellini. Rimasi così male alla morte di Gelsomina (Giulietta Masina) da promettere a me stesso che mai avrei spezzato il cuore di qualcuno».

Tu vi parteciperesti ancora dopo “American Crime Story”?

«Amo Grease e capisco benissimo chi ne vuole trarre delle nuove versioni».

Interpreteresti il cattivo in un film di James ond, o sarebbe troppo?

«Assolutamente sì. Del resto ho già interpretato altri ruoli audaci, come il Moose di “The Fanatic” o l’Edna in “Hairspray”».

Lo so, crederete che io sia pazzo a pensare ancora alle sue mani ma, quando indica gli scatti che preferisce sullo schermo della macchina fotografica, lo rivedo mentre mostra la fede al dito a icholas age, nella magistrale scena di “ ace Off” Anche uello un cattivo niente male.

Quanto si sarà preparato per un ruolo cos ? er ogni film mi preparo il tempo necessario a sviluppare in me, e percepire chiaramente, le giuste risposte emotive. Il che varia da ruolo a ruolo.»

«Il taglio di capelli e gli occhiali di “The Fanatic”».

Sono di nuovo nel giardino, nel centro di Milano. In realtà, ad essere onesti, non ho mai varcato la soglia dell’hotel, anche se avrei tanto voluto farlo. Capitemi bene: il nostro fotografo lo ha incontrato per davvero Mr. John Travolta. Hanno deciso le luci di comune accordo (dopo anni nello sho business, Ton Manero ne sa di fotografia, uasi pi di ualche giovane presunto professionista), hanno per davvero scelto insieme gli scatti buoni. E lui, alle nostre domande, ha risposto personalmente.

Io, però, quelle mani non le ho mai strette. Quelle mani che assillano i miei pensieri, proprio come accade ai fan più fanatici. Perché sì, John, anche noi siamo fanatici… di te.

A splash of green in the centre of Milan. I am always struck by this variegated and quiet corner of nature, so much that my steps slow down instinctively. Yet I’m in a hurry, despite being Sunday afternoon. Because I certainly cannot be late for this appointment.

Between the branches I see the hotel windows, this means that the moment of the meeting is approaching and, it will seem strange to you, I cannot help asking myself what his hands will be like.

Yes, that’s right, his hands. This thought has been buzzing in my head for a few days: John Travolta’s hands have written the history of cinema. Actually even more, they have marked the popular culture of the last forty years!

With his father an architect and his mother a teacher of philosophy, Luigi Carriero grew up in Gallipoli in the Province of Lecce, learning as a child to appreciate the beauty surrounding him, which included the countryside, animals, art, and the grace of people and things.

His works do their best to convey a sense of beauty and self-expression, while also serving as a means for transmitting messages.

“I would like to communicate the idea that human beings, animals, and plants all share in the same ‘immense space’ and are united by the same vital energy, and one large beating heart. It is not by chance that my hashtag is #oneheartanimalkingdom, a message that is cited in many of my paintings”.

He mostly works on medium si ed canvases and loves to finish his creations o with chalk markings and rief strokes of oil painting in intense colours. He will no doubt continue to paint in the near future with a focus in particular on portraits, while experimenting with mixed media and using large formats. At the same time, his interests also extend to include the world of photography, as can be seen by his latest photographic project named #wallspics. “It’s a series of shots that feature parts of the city’s walls. The layers of paint and deterioration due to the passing of time sometimes create genuine, and often surprising, abstract paintings”.

And his approach to fashion? “I often wear canvas sneakers and windbreakers, which I like to play around with. My brother makes fun of me because he says I have at least one hundred sets, one for every temperature and occasion! What I like the most about fashion is the search for a personal style and the care taken with details and especially accessories. I have a friend who goes into stores and uys the ugliest garment she can find Her style is truly personal and interesting. Inutile negarlo: il tema ‘pelliccia’ divide. La battaglia tra sostenitori e contrari raggiunge, spesso, toni molto accesi. Se non è necessariamente nostro compito esprimere un parere, lo è di certo informare. Perciò abbiamo esplorato il caldissimo tema ‘pelliccia sì, pelliccia no’ a partire dalla recente presa di posizione del Gruppo Louis Vuitton che ha dichiarato di non sentire il bisogno di escludere dalle proprie collezioni alcun materiale di origine animale - come pelle, pelli esotiche e pelliccia (ma anche vigogna, lana e piume) - e di non aver intenzione di cedere a facili slogan e diktat. Anzi, vuole perseguire, con il programma LIFE (LVMH Initiative for the Environment, lanciato già nel 2012), una catena del valore sempre più tracciabile e trasparente, assicurandosi forniture d’eccellenza prodotte in maniera etica. Una posizione netta condivisa da tutti i nostri intervistati, tra cui Johannes Manakas, presidente di IFF (International Fur Federation), il quale ha dichiarato che l’Associazione Internazionale sta lavorando da anni fianco a fianco con LVMH per sviluppare il programma FURMARK, che garantisce totale certificazione e tracciabilità, prendendo in considerazione sostenibilità, benessere degli animali e impatto ambientale dei processi di concia e di tintura delle pellicce. Elena Salvaneschi di The One Milano (il salone della pellicceria e del prêt-à-porter) ritiene fondamentale che gli allevamenti siano certificati e controllati da strutture terze e imparziali, e che i parametri del benessere animale siano scientifici (e non emotivi) Le concerie non devono utilizzare prodotti dannosi né per le persone né per l’ambiente, le manifatture devono rispettare i diritti dei lavoratori in termini di sicurezza, salute e pari dignità di provenienza, religione o genere: “La pellicceria ‘sana’ lo sta già facendo, parlando in termini di etica: un’etica però di produzione e non di assenza di produzione, come le frange estremiste vorrebbero”. Anche Fulvia Bacchi di UNIC (Associazione delle Concerie Italiane) evidenzia come a suo parere “la ricerca scientifica sia l’unica possibilità per attuare una valida strategia ambientale e portare avanti le tematiche della sostenibilità”.

I capi in pelliccia naturale, per le loro proprietà intrinseche, sono fatti per durare e restare belli nel tempo: in pratica, l’esatto contrario del fast fashion. La recente linea dura sbandierata dal gruppo Kering e da alcune importanti griffe della moda, come Gucci, ersace, Michael ors, nei confronti della pelliccia (facendo sfilare in passerella quella sintetica) appare come una mossa di marketing dovuta al fatto che i capi in pelliccia non rappresentano una voce importante del loro budget. “Questi brand hanno scelto di adeguarsi ad una percezione’ oggi dilagante, frutto per lo pi di superficialità e di una buona dose di ipocrisia” - dichiara in proposito Fulvia Bacchi.

A questi si aggiunge il pensiero di Roberto Scarpella di AIP (Associazione Italiana Pellicceria) che rimarca come, oggi più che mai, il fashion world deve farsi promotore di una cultura della sostenibilità, puntando su materiali che non impattino in modo dannoso sul nostro pianeta e che possano essere riutilizzati: “Ritengo che sia doveroso sensibilizzare i consumatori a investire in prodotti di ualità, frutto di filiere trasparenti e responsabili, nelle uali ogni passaggio della produzione è severamente controllato. E sicuramente non condivido la spinta all’acquisto compulsivo di capi sintetici di bassa qualità e a basso costo che sta portando alla perdita di eccellenze manifatturiere e a un drammatico aumento dell’inquinamento. I tessuti generati dal petrolio si rovinano molto in fretta e uesto rende molto di cile, se non impossibile, il loro riutilizzo” Johannes Mana as afferma, peraltro, che il Gruppo ering, nonostante la creazione del notorio Fashion Pact di quest’estate (ovvero la coalizione di aziende globali del settore della moda e tessile focalizzata a arrestare il riscaldamento globale, ripristinare la biodiversità e proteggere gli oceani), continui in parte a lavorare con la pelliccia: “Dovrebbero lasciare ai consumatori il diritto di decidere cosa acquistare. È importante supportare prodotti naturali sostenibili. A mio parere, pelliccia e pelle sono la soluzione al problema fast fashion”. Continua Elena Salvaneschi: “Il gruppo LVMH esprime marchi come Vuitton e come Stella McCartney, due brand che hanno una posizione molto diversa nei confronti dell’uso etico delle risorse. Ecco perché ne condivido la posizione: rispetta la diversità di opinione, lasciando che ciascuno scelga dove collocarsi, liberamente”.

E, tra gli argomenti di grande risalto mediatico negli ultimi tempi, c’è la messa fuori legge dal 2023 della pelliccia di nuova produzione in California. “Anche in questo caso, quello che è accaduto in quello stato è una scelta non condivisa da gran parte della popolazione e che non tiene conto del numero di posti di lavoro che verranno a mancare” - segnala Scarpella (ma come evidenzia Manakas di IFF, in realtà la legge non sembra includere le vendite tramite Internet, quindi è probabile che venga contestata legalmente nel prossimo anno). E Salvaneschi aggiunge: “Non mi piace vivere in un mondo dove pochi prendono le decisioni per tanti: non mi piace in assoluto, non solo relativamente alle pellicce. Il consumatore consapevole è un consumatore che non fa scelte estreme, ma che vuole trovare prodotti premium, che garantiscono un livello di benefici per le persone, per l’ambiente e per gli animali maggiore di quello promesso dai prodotti regular. È questo consumatore quello con cui il mondo della produzione deve poter colloquiare, non quello costretto a un comportamento subito e non scelto”. “L’equilibrio resta ancora la scelta più ragionevole”, conclude Fulvia Bacchi di Unic.
