Golf and STEAM Camp at Glades Central High School

Since 2021, the SFPGA Foundation has worked with SuperBowl MVP and Glades Central High School graduate Santonio Holmes and his 10 ALL IN Foundation to bring golf to the Belle Glade community.

During the week-long camp, students were introduced to the fundamentals of golf by PGA Professionals who volunteered their time to help with this initiative. In addition, employees from Pratt & Whitney worked with the students on projects focused on science, technology, art and math.

“Golf can be challenging at times but it teaches you a lot about yourself,” said SFPGA foundation president Tom Wildenhaus.

Wildenhaus, who has served as the president of the SFPGA Foundation since its inception in 2011, presented the $20,000 SFPGA Foundation Scholarship to E’Rinze Murphy on Tuesday at the camp. Murphy is a Glades Central graduate and a past camp participant which proved to be a catalyst for his new goals and his growing interest in the game of golf.

“When I first played golf I remember learning it isn’t about winning it’s about having fun,” explained Murphy. “You get to meet new people and learn about their lives which is really cool.”

Murphy is an example of what the mission of the 10 ALL IN Foundation and SFPGA Foundation partnership is - to grow the game of golf in underserved communities. With the help of the Foundation Scholarship, E’Rinze will be able to achieve his goals and embark on the next chapter of his life at Florida Southern College.

“We want to give kids like us an opportunity to learn the game of golf and E’Rinze is a prime example of what we have created through this program,” explained Holmes. “An opportunity to grow through this game.”

Like past years, the program wrapped up today with the campers having the opportunity to play a scramble at the Belle Glade Municipal Golf Course.

The 2023 10 All In Golf and STEAM Camp was a great success thanks to the help from our PGA Professionals, Santonio Holmes, Jimmy Sexton and the engineers at Pratt & Whitney.
