Mount Dora Golf Club hosts inaugural Folds of Honor Summer Scramble

Yes Virginia, Central Florida Golfers do play golf in the summer. 204 of them to be exact that teed in up for the Mount Dora Golf Club Folds of Honor Summer Scramble presented by G3 Development. Mount Dora Golf Club, located just outside historic downtown Mt. Dora (recognized as one of the 10 Most Charming Small Towns to Visit by Travel and Leisure in 2019), was built in 1944 and serves as a living memorial to Mount Dora’s military troops that served in World War II and all members of the Armed Forces ever since. The inaugural event held on Saturday August 7 raised $10,000 for the Florida Chapter of Folds of Honor - that is the equivalent of two annual Folds of Honor scholarships. Folds of Honor is a 501(C) (3) nonprofit organization that provides educational scholarships to the families of military men and women who have fallen or been disabled while on active duty in the United States armed forces. Founded in 2007, Folds of Honor has awarded approximately 29,000 scholarships in all 50 states and some US territories including more than 4,500 in 2020 alone. G3 Development, based in Lake County, generously stepped up and was the title sponsor of the event. The company has an extensive portfolio of real estate developments in Central Florida and specializes in hands-on and collaborative construction design and management. In the end, G3’s scramble team proved victorious, winning the double shot-gun event and the stunning Folds of Honor “Championship Title Belt” with a score of 20 under par. Gold Star Daughter and Folds of Honor Scholarship recipient Ashlynn McCain spoke at the event about what Folds of Honor has meant to her and her family. “Our inaugural Folds of Honor event was a huge success,” said Luke Covey, General Manager of Mt. Dora Golf Club, “This was our largest charity event so far this year and we look forward to growing the event and doubling our donation to the Florida Chapter next year.” To learn more visit www.mtdoragolf. com; www.foldsofhonor.org.
