Its control requires vaccines and programs as effective and appropriate as possible. This study demonstrated the duration of immunity over 6 months of a vaccine proven by challenge against key BRD pathogens: Parainfluenza 3 (PI3), Bovine Respiratory Syncytial Virus (BRSV), Bovine Virus Diarrhoea (BVD) and Mannheimia haemolytica (Mh). Laboratory analyses included: ◗ Serology on blood samples to determine the level of antibodies for the viral strains. ◗ Classical ELISA to assess the level of Mh antibodies. ◗ Nasal swabs to determine the titre of PI3, BVD and BRSV. ◗ For Mh challenge, post mortem lungs samples were cultivated. BVD PI3 BRSV MH MATERIAL AND METHODS ◗ 4 different vaccination-challenge studies were carried out to investigate the duration of immunity provided by Bovalto Respi 4. ◗ Two-week-old colostrum-deprived calves were used for the study. ◗ Animals were observed daily in order to detect clinical symptoms of BRD and post mortem examination was performed to identify lung lesions caused by M. haemolytica. DEMODEX CANIS
Demodicosis is diagnosed based on the clinical signs and combinedhistory, with skin scrapings. Pruritus is uncommon unless bacterial infection is involved Generalised form: Prognosis depends on the patient’s health status and underlying conditions. • Sometimes it includes the extremities (pododemodicosis). • Long treatment. Localised form: Less than 5 focal areas. • Good prognosis. Alopecia Strong skin smell Erythema Furunculosis and secondary infections (e.g. pyoderma or otitis) Scaling Seborrhea Peri-ocular lesions Hyperpigmentation TRANSMISSION Not contagious and not transmissible to humans. Usually, transmission of the mites occur from mother to offspring in the first few days of life during nursing. Demodicosis is more common in: • Animals aged less than 18 months. In the presence of underlying pathologies or immuno-compromising disorders. • In case of poor skin hygiene. In short-haired dog breeds more prone to seborrheic disorders. Las estrategias principales de control son la de no introducir animales que no sean inmunes en el ciclo productivo, e inmunización de las hembras reproductoras. Los cambios post mortem nos pueden dar una idea de cuanto tiempo lleva muerto un animal. Los principales cambios post mortem observables en el cadáver son:
■ Rigidez cadavérica (rigor mortis).
■ Descenso de la temperatura del cadáver (frigor mortis).
■ Opacidad corneal y pérdida de la turgencia ocular (fig. 5).
■ Presencia y magnitud de los signos de des- composición (manchas abdominales verdes) (fig. 6).
A continuación se realiza un examen externo com- pleto (piel, pelo y nódulos linfáticos superficiales) desde el cráneo hasta la región caudal (fig. 7).

Los estudios que existen de duración de la inmunidad no han observado que la inmunidad denación previa es correcta. Los perros y gatos geriátricos sanos responden de forma adecuada a las revacunaciones y en consecuencia se aconseja mantener el plan de vacunas de forma habitual (vacunas esenciales cada 3 años en la mayoría de casos según las guías vacunales actuales; vacunas no esenciales cada año, por ejemplo leptospirosis leishmaniosis en el perro y leucemia felina en el gato). No obstante, la respuesta a la vacunación puede ser menor si un perro gato geriátrico se vacuna por primera vez frente a un antígeno nuevo del que no existe inmunidad de memoria, por ejemplo en el caso de la produce una buena inmunidad) motivada por un viaje en estas situaciones sería mejor administrar una segunda dosis a las 4 semanas para asegurar unos niveles de anticuerpos protectores suficientes. En este capítulo se presentarán los principales agentes patógenos primarios y secundarios implicados en el complejo respiratorio porcino, y que suelen aprovechar unas condiciones ambientales deficientes y unas estrategias de manejo inadecuadas. Las enfermedades respiratorias son una de las principales causas de pérdidas económicas en la industria porcina. El complejo respiratorio porcino (CRP) es la manifestación clínica de la actuación conjunta de diferentes agentes patógenos, bajo unas condiciones ambientales deficientes y acompañada de unas estrategias de manejo inadecuadas figura 1). En la mayoría de ocasiones son estas últimas las que precipitan la aparición de un brote de enfermedad respiratoria, ya que el animal convive con los agentes patógenos involucrados durante toda su vida. Generalmente, los agentes infecciosos implicados en los casos de CRP son una asociación entre patógenos primarios y patógenos secundarios u oportunistas. Los patógenos primarios son aquellos capaces de inducir una enfermedad clínica y lesiones por sí mismos, mientras que los patógenos secundarios u oportunistas son los que generalmente inducen una enfermedad subclínica, a menos que el cerdo se encuentre inmunodeprimido o la infección esté complicada por otros virus o bacterias que previamente han ocasionado un daño tabla 1). Dentro de los agentes primarios se incluyen virus, como el virus del síndrome reproductivo y respiratorio porcino (PRRSV), el virus de la gripe porcina y el circovirus porcino tipo 2 (PCV2), y bacterias como Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae Bordetella bronchiseptica y algunas cepas de Pasteurella multocida En el grupo de los patógenos secundarios u oportunistas destacan el coronavirus respiratorio porcino, Streptococcus Haemophilus parasuis Mycoplasma hyorhinis Trueperella pyogenes y la mayoría de las cepas de P. multocida AGENTES VÍRICOS PRIMARIOS A continuación se describirán los tres agentes víricos primarios implicados en el CRP. ENFERMEDADES RESPIRATORIAS EN PORCINO ¿Quién es quién en el complejo respiratorio porcino? Bases y herramientas para el diagnóstico del complejo respiratorio porcino 3. El complejo respiratorio porcino en imágenes El virus del PRRS Perteneciente al género Porartevirus, se caracteriza por una gran variabilidad genética entre los diferentes genotipos subtipos, lo que se traduce en importantes diferencias a nivel antigénico de virulencia. El PRRS se caracteriza por la aparición de un fallo reproductivo en las cerdas gestantes, mientras que en las fases de transición y engorde los animales desarrollan un cuadro respiratorio. Tras el contagio, el virus se replica rápidamente en los macrófagos, especialmente en los macrófagos alveolares pulmonares y en los macrófagos de los órganos linfoides, induce tanto la liberación de la progenie vírica por parte de las células infectadas como la inducción de fenómenos de muerte celular, tanto de las células infectadas como de células vecinas no infectadas. La replicación del virus en los macrófagos, junto con los fenómenos de muerte celular, induce una alteración de la respuesta inmunitaria. Por ello, esta última no va poder establecerse de manera eficaz, lo que facilita el establecimiento de una rápida viremia y la diseminación orgánica del virus. 5 Las lesiones pulmonares se ajustan al patrón de una neumonía intersticial, caracterizada macroscópicamente por pulmones no colapsados que presentan áreas multifocales de consolidación y consistencia gomosa figura 2). El principal hallazgo microscópico es la existencia de infiltrado de células mononucleares en el septo alveolar, hipertrofia e hiperplasia de neumocitos tipo II, y la presencia de restos celulares células inflamatorias en los espacios alveolares. Este virus suele estar implicado en la mayoría de los procesos respiratorios y su concomitancia con otros agentes suele implicar, en la mayoría de ocasiones, un empeoramiento de la enfermedad respiratoria tabla 2). Circovirus porcino tipo 2 El PCV2 se trata de un virus perteneciente a la familia Circoviridae género Circovirus Este virus, de muy pequeño tamaño, posee una simetría icosaédrica y carece de envoltura. El PCV2 se asoció inicialmente al denominado síndrome de desmedro multisistémico posdestete (PMWS; postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome caracterizado porque los animales destetados presentaban una evidente disminución del crecimiento y una acentuada pérdida de peso. Posteriormente, la comunidad científica observó que la enfermedad sistémica caracterizada como PMWS no era la única en la que estaba implicado el PCV2. Así, entre las enfermedades asociadas al virus se incluyeron además la enfermedad pulmonar por PCV2 (neumonía por PCV2), la enfermedad digestiva por PCV2 (enteritis por PCV2), la enfermedad reproductiva por PCV2 (fallo reproductivo por PCV2) y el síndrome de dermatitis nefropatía porcino (PDNS). Este virus se transmite por vía oronasal, y su replicación se produce en macrófagos, células presentadoras de antígeno y células epiteliales. Tras esta replicación primaria se produce la viremia distribución del virus por el organismo. La patogenia de las enfermedades asociadas a PCV2 pueden estar influidas por diversos factores dependientes tanto de la cepa de virus como del hospedador, así como de la existencia de coinfecciones o del efecto de la modulación inmunitaria. En cuanto a los factores dependientes del propio virus, se ha demostrado que incluso entre cepas que comparten el 98,9 % de la secuencia genética existe una gran diferencia en su virulencia, lo que se traduce tanto en la diferencia en la carga viral en sangre tejidos como en el grado de las lesiones histológicas. Por el contrario, hay estudios que no han encontrado diferencias en la secuencia genética de distintos aislados víricos que poseían diferente Figura 1.
