Vans x David Bowie / Old Skool

VANS AND “THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH” This collaboration celebrates a joint force between Vans and “the man who fell to earth”- two entities who for decades have championed the different and the strange, leaving a lasting impression on generations of misfits.

Vans’ Old Skool is dedicated to Aladdin Sane album and includes pearlescent pebbled leather uppers accented by the iconic red and blue lightning bolt and finished with Vans’ Sidestripe.

Vans x David Bowie / Era

Vans designers were inspired by iconic Bowie imagery throughout his career from 1969’s Space Oddity all the way to his final album.

Dedicated to Bowie’s first hit single Space Oddity, The Era showcases varying hues of blue and green and cylindrical shapes that matches back to the album art cover. It is finished with a black sole that is accented with the album name on the medial.

The Sk8-Hi Platform 2.0 pays tribute to Bowie’s glam rock alter-ego Ziggy Stardust. The platform style is decked out in red patent leather and features an embossed Bowie lettering and black platform sole.

The two renowned motifs merge on the Sk8-Hi model which has checkerboard printed sidewall and includes the Bowie lightning bolt logo lock-up overlaid across the ubiquitous print and Sidestripe.

THE THIRD INSTALLMENT OF VANS X PEANUTS Vans brings forth the third installment of Vans x Peanuts designs, highlighting characters from Charles M. Schulz’s beloved Peanuts gang using vintage illustrations from the late ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s The loveable Snoopy can be found sleeping on a Sidestripe of dog bones on the SK8-Hi Reissue.

This pair of Old Skools is outfitted in yellow canvas and black suede, showcasing a chevron, also with a sidestripe and “Good Grief” embroidered atop the tongue of each shoe.

MICKEY MOUSE, THE TRUE ORIGINAL Vans designers channel the 1980’s in a special model of the Old Skool, which combines multi-color uppers in pink, yellow and green. The design is topped off with a classically cool Mickey Mouse print and the Vans’ iconic Checkerboard pattern.

El toque surrealista y minimalista de la colección lo aporta Geoff McFetridge, diseñador, ilustrador y animador canadiense. McFetridge le da un giro de vanguardia y simpleza a Mickey Mouse, resaltando los colores clásicos de éste: negro, rojo y amarillo.

CHANNEL THE TRUE ORIGINAL HIMSELF Vans’ original deck shoe has been updated with Mickey Mouse’s trademark colors including a yellow sole complimented by black and red uppers and applique yellow buttons along the heels.

Taking inspiration from the Sorcerer’s hat, the Sk8-Hi is transformed to include velvet quarter panels adorned with celestial moon and star embroidery, which is complimented by blue suede panels and contrast yellow stitching.

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice inspired Sk8-Hi is finished with a black sole, star printed laces and a Sorcerer’s Apprentice emblem on the heel.

BEAUTY, EMOTION AND COLOR

When Van Gogh began to formally study art, he centered his focus around color theory through a series of skeletons that captured shade and light in an irreverent and dark expression. These studies have come to life across the vamps of the Classic Slip-On, with Van Gogh’s human skull placed expertly across each silhouette with subtle details of the artist’s handwriting and brush strokes hidden in a reimagined checkerboard print.

The final round-up of designs includes an ode to Van Gogh’s drawing titled Old Vineyard with Peasant Woman which is delicately printed across the Old Skool and a special Classic Slip-On that features excerpts from handwritten letters from Vincent to his brother, Theo.

Each model from the footwear collection is finished with custom footbed art that mimics Van Gogh’s memorable brush strokes
