em-vindo ao WRC Vodafone Rally de Portugal!

A 57ª edição da prova organizada pelo Automóvel Club de Portugal decorre entre 9 e 12 de maio no norte e centro do País. É de longe o evento desportivo e turístico anual que mais contribui para o posicionamento nacional enquanto destino turístico e para a coesão do território. A forte aposta do ACP nesta prova é também o contributo que presta à sociedade, enquanto promotor de eventos que combatem a sazonalidade e a interioridade, tantas vezes esquecidos pelos agentes políticos e económicos.

A base operacional é na Exponor, em Matosinhos, onde se concentram a direção de prova, as marcas e os pilotos.

São 22 troços e 335,26km disputados em acesa competição, para gáudio dos milhares de adeptos que, ao longo de todo o percurso vibram com as performances dos carros e dos pilotos.

Depois do tradicional shakedown em Baltar, a partida volta a ser dada em Coimbra e o primeiro dia acaba com uma super especial na Figueira da Foz. Este ano, o público, vai poder usufruiu ainda mais do WRC Vodafone Rally de Portugal, já que o itinerário contempla dupla passagem pelos troços de Mortágua, Paredes e Cabeceiras de Basto. Também Montim regressa com dupla passagem, permitindo aos adeptos um fim de semana imperdível no concelho de Fafe.

O WRC Vodafone Rally de Portugal pontua em termos internacionais para o Campeonato do Mundo de Ralis com os carros Rally1 e para o campeonato WRC2 com os carros Rally2. Nas competições nacionais, a prova destaca-se no Campeonato de Portugal de Ralis.

elcome to the WRC Vodafone Rally de Portugal!

The 57th edition of the event organised by the Automóvel Club de Portugal takes place between 9 and 12 May in the north and centre of the country.

It is by far the annual sporting and tourist event that contributes most to the country’s position as a touristic destination and to territorial cohesion.

The ACP’s strong commitment to this event is also the contribution it makes to society, as a promoter of events that combat seasonality and the isolation of the interior, so often forgotten by political and economic agents.

This edition has its operational base at Exponor, in Matosinhos, where the headquarters, teams and drivers are concentrated.

There are 22 special stages and 335.26 kilometres contested in high competition, to the delight of the thousands of fans who thrill with the performances of the cars and drivers along the entire route.

After the traditional shakedown in Baltar, the start will be once again in Coimbra and the first day ends with a super special stage in Figueira da Foz. This year, the spectators will be able to enjoy the WRC Vodafone Rally de Portugal even more, as the itinerary includes two runs through the stages of Mortágua, Paredes and Cabeceiras de Basto.

Montim also returns with two runs, giving fans an unmissable weekend in the municipality of Fafe.

The WRC Vodafone Rally de Portugal is eligible for the World Rally Championship with the Rally1 cars and for the WRC2 championship with the Rally2 cars. In the national competitions, the rally is one of the main rounds in the Portuguese Rally Championship.

The ACP is committed to the FIA’s Sustainability Programme in order to continue with the work carried out and to minimise the rally’s environmental impact, following up on the measures implemented to continue being an example in environmental matters, both nationally and internationally.

Finally, a fundamental issue for the success of our rally: safety. The enormous enthusiasm that surrounds it must be a hallmark of sport and tourism. Only with everyone’s commitment will it be possible to have a successful WRC Vodafone Rally de Portugal.

WRC Vodafone Rally de Portugal, uma das provas desportivas internacionais mais aguardadas do calendário anual de eventos em Portugal, acontece, este ano, entre 09 e 12 de maio.

No Porto e Norte de Portugal, tudo está a postos para mais uma edição da grande festa do automobilismo mundial. Partilhado entre o Centro e o Norte do país, o 57º WRC Vodafone Rally de Portugal mantém a sua base na Exponor, em Matosinhos enquanto cumpre etapas em 15 concelhos destas duas regiões turísticas.

No Porto e Norte, a festa faz-se nos municípios que recebem a prova - Amarante, Cabeceiras de Basto, Fafe, Felgueiras, Lousada, Matosinhos, Mondim de Basto, Paredes e Vieira do Minho – mas também no restante território, já que o fluxo de publico se distribui necessariamente além dos limítrofes geográficos desses concelhos.

Assistir às passagens do rali e vivenciar o espírito da prova com família e/ou amigos são, sem dúvida, os motivos principais que movem os amantes do automobilismo, mas o WRC Vodafone Rally de Portugal é, igualmente, um belo pretexto para muitos turistas, neste período, visitarem o Norte do país.

Atraídos pelo ambiente magnifico que, todos os anos, se gera em torno da prova, não perdem a oportunidade para conhecer as belas paisagens dos nove concelhos onde esta acontece; para provarem a gastronomia e os vinhos da região nos muitos os restaurantes, cafés e esplanadas do território, pernoitarem nas esplêndidas unidades de alojamento de diferentes tipologias e usufruírem de todo um vasto leque de ofertas culturais e de animação que jamais esquecerão.

he WRC Vodafone Rally de Portugal, one of the most eagerly awaited international sporting events on the annual calendar of events in Portugal, will take place this year from 9 to 12 May. In Porto and the North of Portugal, everything is ready for another edition of the great world motorsport party. Shared between the centre and the north of the country, the 57th WRC Vodafone Rally de Portugal maintains its base at Exponor, in Matosinhos, while completing stages in 15 municipalities of these two tourist regions.

In Porto and the North, the party takes place in the municipalities that host the rally - Amarante, Cabeceiras de Basto, Fafe, Felgueiras, Lousada, Matosinhos, Mondim de Basto, Paredes and Vieira do Minho - but also in the rest of the territory, since the flow of public is necessarily distributed beyond the geographical boundaries of these municipalities. Watching the rally’s passages and experiencing the spirit of the race with family and/or friends are, without a doubt, the main reasons that move motorsport fans, but the WRC Vodafone Rally de Portugal is also a great excuse for many tourists, during this period, to visit the north of the country.

Attracted by the magnificent atmosphere that, every year, is generated around the rally, they do not miss the opportunity to get to know the beautiful landscapes of the nine municipalities where it takes place; to taste the gastronomy and wines of the region in the many restaurants, cafes and terraces of the territory, stay overnight in the splendid accommodation units of different types and enjoy a wide range of cultural and entertainment offers that you will never forget.

Com grande história na modalidade, esta região já assistiu a confrontos épicos entre os melhores pilotos do mundo. Este ano, todos esperamos com entusiasmo ver de novo os bólides a “voar” em alguns dos troços mais icónicos do Vodafone Rally de Portugal.

Haverá poucos lugares do mundo em que o entusiasmo pelos ralis seja tão expressivo como na região Centro de Portugal. Os milhares de espetadores que, em romaria, se juntam em Mortágua, na Lousã, em Góis e em Arganil – sem esquecer a partida em Coimbra e a Superespecial na Figueira da Foz – fazem desta prova um espetáculo extraordinário e, simultaneamente, reforçam a notoriedade da região, aquém e além-fronteiras.

n May, the roads of Central Portugal once again become a must-visit destination for motorsport enthusiasts. With a rich history in this sport, this region has witnessed epic showdowns between the world’s best drivers. This year, we all eagerly await seeing these high-powered machines ‘flying’ once again on some of the most iconic stages of the Vodafone Rally de Portugal.

There are few places in the world where enthusiasm for rallying is as expressive as in the Central Portugal region.

om 18 anos consecutivos de apoio, a Vodafone já faz parte de quase um terço da história do Rally de Portugal, competição que este ano comemora a sua 57.ª edição. Isso significa também que mais de metade do nosso percurso de quase 32 anos nas telecomunicações foi feito em associação à prova rainha do automobilismo português, algo que ajudou a consolidar características e valores partilhados pelas duas marcas: velocidade, abertura à inovação, competitividade e excelência, além do esforço pela preservação ambiental - nomeadamente com as recentes medidas introduzidas para compensação das emissões de carbono associadas à prova.

ith 18 consecutive years of support, Vodafone has already been part of almost a third of the history of the Rally de Portugal, a competition that this year celebrates its 57th edition. This also means that more than half of our almost 32-year path in telecommunications has been spent in association with the premier event in Portuguese autosport, something that has helped to consolidate the characteristics and values shared by both brands: speed, openness to innovation, competitiveness and excellence, as well as efforts to preserve the environment - particularly with the recent measures introduced to offset the carbon emissions associated with the event. POLÍTICA AMBIENTAL DO VODAFONE RALLY DE PORTUGAL VODAFONE RALLY DE PORTUGAL ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

Em linha com os objetivos de sustentabilidade da FIA, desde 2022 foram introduzidos no WRC novos carros híbridos de Rally1, que combinam um motor elétrico de 100 W com um motor de combustão, e um combustível isento de hidrocarbonetos fósseis, 100% sustentável.

Adicionalmente, de acordo com o Programa de Acreditação Ambiental da FIA, o ACP – Automóvel Club de Portugal, organizador do WRC Rally de Portugal, foi certificado desde 2017 com a acreditação Achievement of Excellence e, posteriormente, com a Acreditação Ambiental de 3 Estrelas, o mais alto nível de reconhecimento de sustentabilidade ambiental.

Orgulhosa do património comum da FIA e do ACP, a organização do WRC Rally de Portugal continua empenhada no Programa de Sustentabilidade da FIA, a fim de continuar a melhorar e a minimizar o impacte ambiental da prova e, como uma das provas do WRC que acolhe um grande número de espetadores, o WRC Rally de Portugal esforça-se por continuar a ser um exemplo em termos de questões ambientais, tanto a nível nacional como internacional.

Para cumprir os nossos objetivos, estabelecemos parcerias com a Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente, todos os municípios envolvidos no evento, autoridades ambientais e entidades locais gestoras de resíduos. Definimos também um programa de compensação de emissões de gases com efeito de estufa e promovemos ações de plantação de espécies autóctones nas zonas envolventes ao evento.

Neste sentido, o WRC Rally de Portugal, através do seu Sistema de Gestão Ambiental, orientar-se-á pelos seguintes princípios:

In line with FIA continuous sustainability efforts, since 2022 new hybrid Rally1 cars, combining a 100 W electric motor with a combustion engine, and hydrocarbon-based fossil-free fuel, 100% sustainable, have been introduced in the WRC. Proud of our common FIA and ACP heritage, the organisation of WRC Rally de Portugal remains committed to the FIA Sustainability Programme, in order to continue improving and minimising the environmental impact of the event and as one of the WRC events that welcomes a large number of spectators, WRC Rally de Portugal thrives to remain an example in terms of environmental issues, both nationally and internationally.

In order to fulfil our objectives, we have established partnerships with the Portuguese Environment Agency, all the municipalities involved in the event, environmental authorities and local waste management entities. We have also defined a programme to offset greenhouse gas emissions, and we promote actions to plant native species in the areas surrounding the event.

Therefore, WRC Rally de Portugal, through its Environmental Management System, will be guided by the following principles:

Cumprir a legislação ambiental aplicável, bem como outras obrigações voluntariamente assumidas, incluindo o Programa de Acreditação Ambiental da FIA; Informar e formar todas as pessoas envolvidas na organização sobre a política ambiental; Promover a consciência ambiental junto das nossas partes interessadas (organização, pilotos, equipas, voluntários, meios de comunicação social, espetadores e todos os fornecedores externos) e incentivá-los a assumir um compromisso pessoal nesta matéria; Ter em conta o impacte ambiental na escolha de parceiros e fornecedores, bem como no processo de seleção e aquisição de produtos e serviços; Reduzir, quando possível, o impacte ambiental nos transportes, incentivando a partilha de automóveis, bem como a utilização de transportes públicos; Promover a responsabilidade na preservação do ambiente, gerindo e monitorizando os impactes diretos e indiretos do evento, em particular o consumo de energia e as emissões de gases com efeito de estufa associadas, o consumo de água e outros recursos naturais, e a gestão adequada dos resíduos; Incentivar a gestão adequada e proativa dos riscos ambientais, em particular a prevenção da poluição e a resposta à emergência em situações de acidente e/ou catástrofe; Promover a melhoria continua nos processos, práticas e desenvolvimentos ambientais, definindo e avaliando objetivos ambientais progressivamente mais ambiciosos.

Esta Política Ambiental, apoiada por uma forte atitude de “desempenho em função dos objetivos”, será regularmente revista e atualizada, assegurando a melhoria contínua de todo o Sistema de Gestão Ambiental.

This Environmental Policy, supported by a strong “performance against objectives” attitude, will regularly be reviewed and updated, ensuring continuous improvement of the entire Environmental Management System.

O NOVO SISTEMA DE PONTOS DO WRC

O

Rallye Monte-Carlo marcou não só o início de nova temporada, mas também a introdução de novo sistema de pontos que visa intensificar a competição.

IMPORTANTE: Para garantir estes pontos os pilotos deverão terminar o rali no domingo. Em caso de desistência, os pontos passam para o classificado seguinte.

A nova estrutura, delineada no Regulamento Desportivo do Campeonato Mundial de Ralis da FIA de 2024, traz uma vantagem estratégica a cada rali, garantindo competição acirrada até ao final.

Uma Abordagem conservadora para poupar pneus para a Wolf Power Stage já não chega. Vamos explicar.

Confronto de domingo Domingo proporciona dose extra de interesse com pontos adicionais oferecidos com base na classificação individual do último dia. É como uma corrida curta e intensa dentro do próprio rali.

Esta estrutura única não só mantém a emoção da competição, mas também oferece aos concorrentes uma oportunidade de ouro para recuperarem de contratempos que possam ter enfrentado no início do rali. Os pontos serão distribuídos da seguinte forma: 1º: 7 pontos 2º: 6 pontos 3º: 5 pontos 4º: 4 pontos 5º: 3 pontos 6º: 2 pontos 7º: 1 ponto

O velho versus o novo Anteriormente, os pontos eram atribuídos com base no resultado do rali. O vencedor recebia 25, com escala descendente até o 10º classificado, que conquistava apenas 1 ponto. A Wolf Power Stage oferecia um bónus, elevando a pontuação máxima possível para 30.

Em 2024, a pontuação perfeita continua a ser 30, mas a principal mudança é que os pontos são agora atribuídos ao longo do rali, e não apenas na chegada.

Momento no meio do rali No sábado, os pontos serão atribuídos com base na classificação geral após o controle de tempo final. Este sistema de recompensa no meio do rali adiciona uma camada extra de emoção e mantém os concorrentes atentos. WRC’S NEW POINT SYSTEM

allye Monte-Carlo signaled not only the start of a fresh seaso but also the introduction of a brand-new point system aimed at intensifying competition.

The revamped structure, outlined in the 2024 FIA World Rally Championship Sporting Regulations, brings a strategic edge to each rally, ensuring fierce competition until the very end.

A conservative approach to save tyres for the Wolf Power Stage will not cut it this year. Let’s break it down.

Old vs. New Previously, points were awarded based on the overall rally result. The winner received 25 points, with a sliding scale down to the 10th-placed finisher who earned just one. The Wolf Power Stage provided a bonus, bringing the maximum possible score to 30.

In 2024, the perfect score remains 30, but the key change is that points are now awarded throughout the rally, not just at the finish.

Mid-rally momentum On Saturday, points will be awarded based on the general classification after the final time control. This mid-rally reward system adds an extra layer of excitement and keeps competitors on their toes. The points breakdown is as follows: 1st: 18 points 2nd: 15 points 3rd: 13 points 4th: 10 points 5th: 8 points 6th: 6 points 7th: 4 points 8th: 3 points 9th: 2 points 10th: 1 point

IMPORTANT: To secure these points, drivers must finish the rally on Sunday. In case of a non-finish, the points pass to the next eligible competitor.

Sunday showdown Sunday adds another layer of drama with additional points on offer based on the individual classification of the final day’s stages only. It’s like a short, intense sprint within the rally itself.

This unique structure not only maintains the thrill of the competition but also offers competitors a golden opportunity to recover from any setbacks they may have faced earlier in the rally. MONTE CARLO O POKER DE NEUVILLE

hierry Neuville foi rei e senhor no Rali de Monte Carlo 2024, prova inaugural do Campeonato do Mundo da especialidade.

Navegado por Martijn Whydaeghe, o belga da Hyundai teve um fim-de-semana quase perfeito mostrando competitividade e confiança bem acima da concorrência, o que, aliado a um Hyundai i20 Rally1 perfeitamente colaborante de início ao fim, lhe permitiu saborear o primeiro champanhe do ano.

A vitória da dupla belga nem teve começo fácil com a a dupla a não mostrar ritmo forte na noite de abertura.

Uma falta de competitividade ainda patente na sextafeira, não deixando antever um resto de rali fácil.

Contudo, o sábado foi um virar de página para Thierry Neuville que cedo encetou notável recuperação na geral para concluir a etapa na liderança embora com “magra” vantagem de 3,3 segundos. Mas o ritmo e confiança estavam patentes e o último dia veio confirmá-lo com mais um desempenho notável do piloto que dilatou a vantagem no comando e venceu a Power Stage saindo de Monte Carlo com o pleno: vitória, pontuação máxima no sábado e domingo e vitória na Power Stage.

O segundo lugar foi de Sebastien Ogier e Vincent Landais. A combativa dupla da Toyota teve também um início de rali conservador, mas no sábado mostrou os pergaminhos e chegou mesmo a passar pela liderança, embora por pouco tempo. Com o poderio evidenciado pelos homens da Hyundai, a Ogier e Landais não restou mais além de confirmar o segundo posto, ainda assim um excelente resultado para a dupla.

O mais baixo do pódio ficou para Elfyn Evans e Scott Martin, também em Toyota. O britânico teve um rali em decrescendo, contrariando o arranque fulgurante ainda na noite de quinta-feira e que lhe permitiu manter o comando da prova durante toda a sexta-feira mesmo sem vencer uma única classificativa.

Mas para Evans o “calvário” começou no sábado de manhã com dificuldades no sistema híbrido do Toyota a levarem à perda de posições. Desde então, Elfyn nunca mais conseguiu recuperar confiança e ritmo caindo a terceiro lugar, resultado que iria manter até final.

De regresso à Hyundai, Ott Tanak e Martin Jarveoja terminaram em quarto, enquanto o quinto foi para o melhor dos Ford Puma oficiais, com Adrien Fourmaux e Alex Coria.

No WRC2, uma batalha épica originou nove mudanças de líder. Pepe Lopez e David Vasquez (Skoda Fabia) surpreenderam ao vencer a noite de abertura e desde então travaram uma luta com Nikolai Gryazin e Konstantin Aleksandrov (Citroen C3). Ambas as equipas dominaram praticamente todo o rali com alternância de posições, sempre com diferenças de tempo irrisórias.

Porém havia um terceiro elemento atento àbatalha.

Yohan Rossel e Arnaud Dunand rodaram grande parte do rali no terceiro lugar mas sem nunca deixarem escapar as equipas da frente e foi apenas na última etapa, num forcing final que a dupla francesa conseguiu suplantar os adversários e colocar o seu Citroen C3 no degrau mais alto do pódio.

Para Gryazin, as dificuldades sentidas com o sobreaquecimento dos pneus no último dia foram fatais para as suas aspirações e não conseguiu ir além do terceiro lugar final, deixando para Pepe Lopez e David Vasquez o degrau intermédio do pódio.

Na WRC3, o checo Jan Cerny venceu folgadamente a competição, embora na sua classe (RC3), tenha travado um braço de ferro com Mattéo Chatillon, batendo o piloto francês por 1,9 segundos.

hierry Neuville was crowned king at the Rallye Monte Carlo 2024, the opening round of the World Rally Championship.

Co-drived by Martijn Whydaeghe, Hyundai’s Belgian driver had an almost perfect weekend, showing competitiveness and confidence far above the competition, which, together with a Hyundai i20 Rally1 that was perfectly cooperative from start to finish, allowed him to sip the first champagne of the year.

The Belgian duo’s victory didn’t get off to an easy start, with the team’s opening night not showing a very strong pace. And that lack of competitiveness was still evident on Friday, when a spin took a few more seconds off the pair, making the rest of the rally far from easy.

However, Saturday was a turning point for Thierry Neuville, who made a remarkable recovery in the overall standings and finished the day in the lead, albeit with a slender margin of 3.3 seconds. However, the pace and confidence were there, and the final day confirmed it with another outstanding performance from the driver, who not only extended his lead at the top of the standings, but also won the Power Stage, leaving Monte Carlo with the full package: victory in the rally, maximum points for Saturday, maximum points for Sunday and victory in the Power Stage.

Sebastien Ogier and Vincent Landais took second place.

The combative Toyota duo also had a conservative start, but on Saturday they proved their worth and even rose to the lead, albeit briefly. With the power displayed by the Hyundai men, Ogier and Landais had no choice but to confirm their second place finish, still an excellent result for the duo.

The lowest step on the podium was taken by Elfyn Evans and Scott Martin, also in a Toyota. The British driver had a downhill rally which counteracted his blazing start on Thursday night and allowed him to keep the lead throughout Friday without winning a single stage.

But for Evans, the “ordeal” began on Saturday morning with some difficulties with his Toyota’s hybrid system, leading to a loss in performance and, consequently, in his final position. Since then, Elfyn has never been able to recover his confidence and pace, dropping to third place, a result he would maintain until the end.

Back with Hyundai, Ott Tanak and Martin Jarveoja finished in fourth place, while fifth was reserved for the best of the official Ford Pumas, with Adrien Fourmaux and Alex Coria.

In WRC2, an epic battle led to nine changes of leader.

Pepe Lopez and David Vasquez, driving a Skoda Fabia, surprised everyone by winning the opening night and since then they have been fighting with Nikolai Gryazin and Konstantin Aleksandrov, driving a Citroen C3. Both teams dominated practically the entire rally, with the Citroen men and the Spanish duo alternating positions, always with residual time differences.

However, there was a third element to the battle. Yohan Rossel and Arnaud Dunand spent a large part of the rally in third place, but they never let the frontrunners get away, and it was only on the last stage, in a final foray, that the French duo managed to overtake their opponents and put their Citroen C3 on the top step of the podium.

For Gryazin, the difficulties he experienced with his tires overheating on the last day were fatal to his aspirations and he was unable to get beyond third place, leaving Pepe Lopez and David Vasquez on the middle step of the podium.

In WRC3, the Czech Jan Cerny won the competition comfortably, although in his class (RC3), he had an arm wrestle with Mattéo Chatillon, beating the French driver by 1.9 seconds.

SUÉCIA LAPPI REGRESSA ÀS VITÓRIAS

gelado palco do Rali da Suécia proporcionou uma competição repleta de reviravoltas e emoções bastante intensas para os entusiastas do WRC. O regresso de Esapekka Lappi ao circuito mundial foi marcado por um desempenho estelar, deixando para trás uma série de contratempos que afetaram outros adversários de peso.

Kalle Rovanperä, bicampeão em título, liderou inicialmente a prova no Toyota Yaris GR, mas uma falha no radiador abreviou drasticamente as suas aspirações logo na etapa inaugural. Ott Tänak, da Hyundai, também sucumbiu à pressão, comprometendo-se com um erro infeliz na sexta-feira.

O vazio deixado por Rovanperä foi rapidamente preenchido por Takamoto Katsuta, da Toyota Gazoo Racing, mas sua liderança foi efêmera: Esapekka Lappi, da Hyundai, assumiu o controlo nas pistas nevadas, na emblemática PEC7. Contudo, a sorte também não sorriu para Katsuta, que enfrentou um erro fatal no início da etapa de sábado, deixando Lappi com uma vantagem confortável sobre os seus concorrentes.

Apesar do brilho de Lappi, a batalha pelo topo do campeonato ficou entre Elfyn Evans e Thierry Neuville.

O galês da Toyota Gazoo Racing garantiu o segundo lugar na Suécia, reduzindo a vantagem de Neuville no campeonato para apenas três pontos.

O pódio foi completado por Adrien Fourmaux, que proporcionou à M-Sport Ford uma vitória saborosa, destacando-se como o primeiro pódio do talentoso piloto francês no WRC, após enfrentar obstáculos nos últimos anos.

Enquanto isso, na WRC2, Oliver Solberg brilhou intensamente, aproveitando as condições favoráveis da estrada para garantir uma vitória convincente, seguido por Sami Pajari e Georg Linamäe.

No cenário do Júnior WRC, o jovem sueco Mille Johansson emocionou a corrida local ao triunfar na competição dos Ford Fiesta Rally3.

SWEDEN LAPPI’S RETURN TO THE TOP

ally of Sweden’s icy roads provided a competition full of twists and turns and strong emotions for the WRC enthusiasts.

Esapekka Lappi’s return to the world circuit was marked by a stellar performance, leaving behind a series of setbacks that affected other major opponents.

Two-time champion Kalle Rovanperä initially led the race in the Toyota Yaris GR, but a radiator failure drastically curtailed his aspirations on the opening stage. Hyundai’s Ott Tänak also succumbed to the pressure, compromising himself with an unfortunate mistake on Friday.

The void left by Rovanperä was quickly filled by Toyota Gazoo Racing’s Takamoto Katsuta, but his lead was short-lived; Hyundai’s Esapekka Lappi took control on the snowy roads at the iconic SS7. However, luck didn’t smile on Katsuta either, who made a fatal mistake at the start of Saturday’s leg, leaving Lappi with a comfortable lead over his competitors.

From that moment on, Lappi navigated his way through the field masterfully, consolidating his top position and crossing the finish line with authority, thus claiming his

second WRC victory, seven years after his triumph in Finland with Toyota. Lappi expressed his gratitude to his family and to Cyril Abiteboul, director of Hyundai Motorsport, for welcoming him back after a challenging period last season.

Despite Lappi’s brilliance, the battle for the top place of the championship was between Elfyn Evans and Thierry Neuville.

The podium was completed by Adrien Fourmaux, who gave M-Sport Ford a taste of the rostrum, making it the talented French driver’s first podium in the WRC after facing obstacles in recent years. Meanwhile, in WRC2, Oliver Solberg shone brightly, taking advantage of the favorable road conditions to secure a convincing victory, followed by Sami Pajari and Georg Linamäe.

On the Junior WRC scene, young Swede Mille Johansson thrilled the local race by triumphing in the Ford Fiesta Rally3 competition.

QUÉNIA ROVAMPERA: REI DO SAFARI

Kalle Rovanpera e Jonne Haltunen foram os vencedores do Rali Safari 2024 oferecendo à Toyota o primeiro triunfo do ano.

A dupla finlandesa foi quem melhor soube “sobreviver” a um Rali Safari duríssimo como é seu apanágio, e a Toyota provou ser a marca melhor preparada para enfrentar as dificuldades das peculiares classificativas do Quénia com um rali quase isento de problemas, excepção feita aos muito comuns furos.

A provar o poderio do construtor nipónico, Takamoto Katsuta e Aaron Johnston foram os segundos classificados, sabendo aproveitar da melhor forma os muitos problemas de vários dos seus adversários, nomeadamente da Hyundai, que teve um Rali Safari para esquecer.

O pódio final ficou completo com o terceiro posto entregue ao melhor dos Ford Puma, de Adrien Fourmaux e Alexandre Coria.

Elfyn Evans e Scott Martin terminaram no 4º posto final com mais de 4 minutos e desvantagem para os vencedores. A dupla da Toyota sofreu bastante com

os furos atrasando-se irremediavelmente na tabela de tempos, ainda assim suplantando o melhor dos Hyundai, tripulado por Thierry Neuville e Martijn Whidaeghe.

A dupla belga viu o seu Hyundai i20 afetado por graves problemas mecanicos, o que aliado aos furos sofridos fez deste um rali de má memória para os líderes do campeonato.

A Hyundai foi mesmo a mais afetada pelos problemas com Ott Tanak e Martin Jarveoja a não irem além do oitavo posto final, e Esapekka Lappi, navegado por Janne Ferm a terminarem fora dos pontos.

O prémio de consolação para a marca nipónica acabou por ser a Power Stage com as suas três equipas a amealharem os três melhores tempos da classificação.

Na WRC 2, Gus Greensmith e Jonas Andersson começaram a sua temporada da melhor forma ao carimbarem o triunfo, com Oliver Solberg e Elliot Edmondson a secundarem a dupla do Skoda Fabia. Kajetan Katetanowicz e Maciej Szczepaniak completaram um pódio totalmente ocupado pela Skoda.

alle Rovanpera and Jonne Haltunen were the winners of the 2024 Safari Rally, giving Toyota its first victory of the year.

The Finnish duo was the best at “surviving” a very tough Safari Rally, as usual, and Toyota proved to be the best prepared manufacturer to face the difficulties of Kenya’s peculiar stages with a rally that was almost trouble-free, with the exception of the very common punctures.

Proving the strength of the Japanese manufacturer, Takamoto Katsuta and Aaron Johnston were the runners-up, making the most of the many problems faced by several rivals, particularly Hyundai, which had a Safari Rally to forget.

The final podium was completed by Adrien Fourmaux and Alexandre Coria, the Ford Puma.

Elfyn Evans and Scott Martin finished in 4th place, more than 4 minutes behind the winners. The Toyota duo suffered greatly from the punctures, falling hopelessly behind on the timesheets, but still outpaced Thierry Neuville and Martijn Whidaeghe, the best of Hyundai.

The Belgian duo had their Hyundai i20 affected by serious mechanical problems, which, together with the punctures they suffered, made this a rally to remember… or forget for the championship leaders.

Hyundai was, in fact, the most affected by problems, with Ott Tanak and Martin Jarveoja finishing no higher than eighth, and Esapekka Lappi, navigated by Janne Ferm, finishing outside the points.

The consolation prize for the South Korean make turned out to be the Power Stage, with its three crews amassing the three best times in Hell’s Gate.

On the WRC 2, Gus Greensmith and Jonas Andersson got their season off to the best start by taking the win, with Oliver Solberg and Elliot Edmondson following the Skoda Fabia duo. Kajetan Katetanowicz and Maciej Szczepaniak completed a podium fully occupied by Skoda.

CROÁCIA SÉBASTIEN OGIER VOLTA A VENCER

S

ebastien Ogier e Vincent Landais foram os vencedores do Rali da Croácia, 10 meses depois do seu último triunfo.

A dupla da Toyota estava no sítio certo à hora certa para segurar a vitória quando os seus mais diretos adversários fraquejaram.

Ogier e Landais ocuparam desde muito cedo o degrau mais baixo do pódio a poucos segundos dos homens da frente, deixando a luta principal entregue às duplas Elfyn Evans / Scott Martin e Thierry Neuville / Martijn Whydaeghe, com vantagem para os homens da Hyundai.

A luta entre Neuville e Evans foi travada ao longo das duas primeiras etapas, chegando ambos a estar empatados no comando do rali. Porém, no último dia, e quando parecia que Neuville ia carimbar a sua segunda vitória do ano, um deslize na classificativa nr. 18 acabou com as aspirações da equipa belga deixando marcas visíveis na carroceria do Hyundai, acabando este por cair para o terceiro posto.

Contudo, nessa mesma classificativa também Elfyn Evans cometia um erro com um ligeiro despiste, o que permitiu a Sebastien Ogier ascender ao primeiro posto.

Para Evans este acabou por ser um mal menor já que o tempo perdido não foi suficiente para o britânico perder a segunda posição, resultado que viria a segurar no final.

Sem nunca terem mostrado condições para lutar pela vitória, Ott Tanak e Martin Jarveoja levaram o Hyundai i20 Rally1 ao quarto posto final mas já a mais de 1 minuto dos vencedores. Seguiram-se na classificação Takamoto Katsuta e Aaron Johnston (Toyota) e Andreas Mikelsen / Torstein Erikson (Hyundai), a fechar o Top 6 da classificação geral.

Gregoire Munster e Louis Louka foram os melhores representantes da M-Sport no sétimo posto final, depois do desaire de Adrien Fourmaux e Alex Coria, que rodaram boa parte do rali num consistente 5º posto até ao “madrasto” troço nr. 18, onde também eles tiveram uma saída de estrada que os atirou para um inglório 17º lugar da classificação geral. Para a dupla francesa, o prêmio de consolação foi mesmo a vitória na Power Stage.

A WRC2 foi um feudo de Nikolai Gryazin e Konstantin Aleksandrov. A dupla da Citroen dominou de fio a pavio a competição concluído o rali no 8º posto da geral. Os seus colegas de equipa Yohan Rossel e Aranud Dunand, 9ºs da classificação geral, foram os segundos mais rápidos num rali de excelência para a Citroen e para o C3 Rally2. Com o 10º posto final, Sami Pajari e Enni Malkonen levaram o seu Yaris Rally2 ao pódio da competição.

Entre os Juniores, a vitória sorriu à dupla da Estónia Romet Jürgenson / Oja Siim.

CROATIA SEBASTIEN OGIER WINS AGAIN

ebastien Ogier and Vincent Landais were the winners of the Rally of Croatia, 10 months after their last triumph.

The Toyota duo was in the right place at the right time to hold on to victory when their closest rivals faltered.

Ogier and Landais occupied the bottom step of the podium from very early on, just a few seconds behind the front men, leaving the main battle to the Elfyn Evans / Scott Martin and Thierry Neuville / Martijn Whydaeghe duos, with the Hyundai men having the upper hand. The fight between Neuville and Evans raged throughout the first two stages, with both drivers tied at the top of the standings. However, on the final day, just when it looked like Neuville was going to take his second win of the year, a slip on stage 18 put an end to the Belgian team’s aspirations, leaving visible marks on the Hyundai’s bodywork and dropping it to third place.

However, on that same stage, Elfyn Evans also made a mistake with a slight crash, which allowed Sebastien Ogier to climb to first place. For Evans, this turned out to be a lesser evil as the time lost wasn’t enough for the Briton to lose second place, a result he held on to at

the end. Without ever having shown themselves to be in a position to fight for victory, Ott Tanak and Martin Jarveoja took the Hyundai i20 Rally1 to fourth place, but already more than a minute behind the winners.

They were followed by Takamoto Katsuta and Aaron Johnston (Toyota) and Andreas Mikelsen / Torstein Erikson (Hyundai) in the top six.

Gregoire Munster and Louis Louka were M-Sport’s best representatives in seventh place, after Adrien Fourmaux and Alex Coria, who drove for a good part of the rally in a consistent fifth place until the “nasty” section no. 18, where they also had a run-off which dropped them to an inglorious 17th place in the overall standings. The consolation prize for the French duo was victory in the Power Stage.

WRC2 was the domain of Nikolai Gryazin and Konstantin Aleksandrov. The Citroen duo dominated the competition from start to finish, ending the rally in 8th place overall.

Their teammates Yohan Rossel and Aranud Dunand, 9th overall, were the second fastest in a rally of excellence for Citroen and the C3 Rally2. With their 10th place finish, Sami Pajari and Enni Malkonen took their Yaris Rally2 to the podium. Among the Juniors, victory went to Estonian duo Romet Jürgenson / Oja Siim.
