WELCOME

Seja muito bem-vindo à 52ª edição do Rally de Portugal, disputada entre 17 e 20 de maio novamente nos muito competitivos troços do Norte do País.

Welcome to the 52nd Vodafone Rally de Portugal, held between May 17th and 20th, once again on the competitive stages of the North of the Country.

As alterações ao regulamento e os novos carros deram ao WRC e, em particular ao Rally de Portugal, uma competitividade e emoção únicas, traduzida em vários recordes e no reconhecimento deste evento como um dos melhores do mundo. Prova disso foi a proeza de Esapeka Lappi, em Fafe, que recebeu o Prémio de Momento Desportivo do Ano FIA, pelo público, e o Prémio de Melhor Salto do Ano por parte do WRC Promoter. A juntar-se à festa dos 50 anos do Rally de Portugal, a Braga Street Stage foi também eleita o Melhor Evento do Ano na Gala do Desporto de Braga.

The changes to the regulations and the new cars gave the WRC and, in particular the Rally de Portugal, a unique competitivity and passion, which resulted in several records and worldwide recognition of the event as one of the best in the world. Esappeka Lappi’s feat at the Fafe jump, which received the Best FIA Action Moment, voted by fans, and the OneBet Jump of the Year, from the WRC Promoter. Also signalling the 50 years of the Rally de Portugal, the Braga Street Stage was awarded the Best Event of the Year at the Braga Sports Gala.

A fasquia está assim alta, mas o WRC Vodafone Rally de Portugal de 2018 tem tudo para superar ao longo de um percurso disputado numa região ímpar, já conhecida dos pilotos e adeptos.

A Exponor, em Matosinhos, volta a acolher o parque de assistência, a generalidade das partidas e chegadas das etapas.

Para o primeiro dia, quinta-feira, mantem-se a partida de Guimarães e a SS de Lousada.

O dia de sexta-feira surge praticamente inalterado, com Viana do Castelo, Caminha e Ponte de Lima a repetirem o figurino. A novidade surge ao final da etapa, com o pelotão do WRC a regressar ao centro da cidade do Porto para a reedição da Porto Street Stage. Duas passagens por 1.850 metros de troço, com algumas pequenas alterações face ao percurso de 2016.

A etapa de sábado permanece idêntica a 2017, com os troços de Vieira do Minho, Cabeceiras de Basto e Amarante a serem palco de duas passagens. O troço de Amarante volta a ser o mais longo do Rally.

A classificativa de Fafe continua a ser o prato forte do último dia da prova, domingo, com a segunda passagem em formato de Power Stage. Montim passa a contar com duas passagens, enquanto Luílhas se disputa uma única vez.

The bar is, therefore, high, but the 2018 WRC Vodafone Rally de Portugal has everything to surpass it with a route held in a singular region well known to drivers and fans alike.

The Exponor, in Matosinhos, will host, once again, the Service Park, and the majority of starts and finishes.

The first day, Thursday, the start in Guimarães and the SSS1, in Lousada, remain the same.

Friday is almost unchanged, with Viana do Castelo, Caminha and Ponte Lima repeating the layout. The novelty will come at the end of the day, with the WRC returning to Porto’s down town for the remake of the Porto Street Stage. A double passage over a 1,850 meters stage with some minor changes in comparison to 2016.

Saturday remains identical to 2017, with the Vieira do Minho, Cabeceiras de Basto and Amarante stages held twice. Amarante is, once again, the Rally’s longest test.

The Fafe test continues to be the main test of the Rally’s last day, Sunday, with the second passage held as Power Stage. Montim will be run twice, while Luílhas will see the WRC action just once.

BEM-VINDO AO NORTE

Já se pressente o ruído dos motores . É o Rally de Portugal que está de volta ao Porto e Norte de Portugal. Que privilégio poder acolher um dos ralis fundadores do WRC já considerado por diversas vezes o “Melhor Rally do Mundo”. Para nós é mesmo… “Melhor Rally do Mundo”!

Ao longo de 4 dias serão percorridos mais de 1.500 km que atravessam 13 concelhos ansiosos por acolher os concorrentes e a ‘afición’! Os pilotos preparam-se para entrar em competição num dos cenários mais icónicos e desafiantes do mundo. Que melhor forma para começar do que assistir aos 4,7 kms de “shakedown” em Paredes, um teste de velocidade máxima dos carros de rally a acontecer a um “palmo de distância”. Terminada a abertura será, ali ao lado, em Guimarães que os pilotos farão uma breve pausa para uma sessão de autógrafos. A seguir, vem Lousada e é aqui que a competição começa “a sério”, sem poupar o mínimo erro.

Esperam-se dias de adrenalina pura temperada de sons mecânicos que ressoam na paisagem do Norte de Portugal e que fazem disparar a tensão de qualquer aficionado. A história vai escrever-se a cada km deste lendário rally, que atravessará uma paisagem, cujos contornos reclamam dos pilotos toda a sua perícia.

O Porto regressa e surpreende-nos com duas Super Especiais de 3,7 km nas ruas do centro da cidade. O rally termina da melhor maneira, com uma Power Stage de 11,18 km a atravessar o legendário salto de Fafe. Para trás ficará um património e cenários naturais deslumbrantes. O encanto das terras minhotas gravado nas curvas da Serra da Cabreira no concelho de Vieira do Minho, e nas terras de Caminha, Ponte de Limae de Viana do Castelo. Mas esta edição não esqueceu de colocar no seu itinerário novamente o icónico troço de Amarante e ao lado as Terras de Basto, com um encontro com Cabeceiras e Mondim onde o Monte Farinha toca os céus no Alto da Senhora da Graça a 947 metros. Que rally!

Toda esta aventura terminará onde começou – Matosinhos. É aqui que o coração do rally bate. Matosinhos será o centro nevrálgico de toda esta campanha com o Parque de Assistência das equipas. Será esta terra a dar as boas vindas aos pilotos e a dizer-lhes “Até para o ano”. Será aqui que se coroarão os mais regulares, resistentes e hábeis, com a sua glorificação no pódio.

Mais uma vez, é a região Norte que está de parabéns. Não fora o esforço coletivo uno de uma região vibrante e dinâmica não seria possível levar a cabo tal façanha. Todo o Norte de Portugal está implicado e comprometido com o Rally de Portugal.

The noise of the engines is about to begin. The Rally de Portugal is back to Porto and to the north reion of Portugal. What a privilege to host once again one of the founding rallies of the WRC nominated several times as the “Best Rally in the World”. For us it really is the “Best Rally in the World” During 4 days more than 1,500 km will be covered along 13 municipalities eager to welcome drivers and public. Drivers are ready to compete in one of the world’s most iconic and challenging scenarios.

The best place to start watching the Rally is Paredes Shakedown with 4.7 kms, a maximum speed test that takes place right in front of your eyes.

After the official opening drivers will move to Guimarães for an autograph session. Next, comes Lousada where the real competition begins and where the slightest error must be avoided.

We expect days of pure adrenaline with the engine sounds raising the public tension and breaking the silence of the North Region landscape.

The story of this year’s event will be told along every mile of this legendary rally, across roads and landscapes that requires the best drivers skills.

Once again the show returns to the heart of Porto with two Super Street Stages along 3.7 kms. The rally ends in the best way, with a Power Stage of 11,18 km where the awarded Fafe jump takes place.

The stunning natural scenery of Minho landscape can be seen in each curve of Serra da Cabreira (Vieira do Minho municipality) Caminha, Ponte de Lima and Viana do Castelo.

But the Rally de Portugal 2018 did not forget to add to its itinerary the special stage of Amarante, close to Terras de Basto, with a meeting point at Cabeceiras and Mondim where Monte Farinha almost reaches the sky.

All this adventure ends where it begun: Matosinhos, with the Service Park where the rally “heart” started to beat and the Marginal where the closing ceremony takes place.

POLITICA AMBIENTAL DO VODAFONE RALLY DE PORTUGAL 2018 No âmbito do Quadro de Certificação Ambiental FIA, o Automóvel Club de Portugal, enquanto organizador do Vodafone Rally de Portugal, obteve em 2017 a acreditação Achievement of Excellence por parte da FIA, o nível máximo de certificação ambiental da Federação Internacional e elemento obrigatório para todas as provas que pretendam fazer parte do Campeonato do Mundo de Ralis de 2018. É objetivo da organização continuar a melhorar o trabalho no sentido de minimizar o impacto ambiental do evento, prosseguindo e alargando a implementação de medidas em conformidade com o programa de sustentabilidade da FIA.

VODAFONE RALLY DE PORTUGAL ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY 2018 According to the Environmental Certification Framework, the Automóvel Club de Portugal, while organizer of the Vodafone Rally de Portugal obtained in 2017 the accreditation Achievement of Excellence by the FIA.

Sendo uma das provas do WRC com mais espectadores, o Vodafone Rally de Portugal procura constituir um exemplo em termos de política ambiental quer a nível nacional quer em termos internacionais.

It is the organisation’s goal to proceed with the improvement work and minimize the environmental impact of the event, continuing the implementation of the necessary measures to achieve which have resulted in this level accreditation. As one of the WRC events hosting a great number of spectators, the Vodafone Rally de Portugal expects to be an example in terms of environmental issues, both nationally and internationally.

Neste contexto, a organização vai continuar o seu trabalho de parceria com o Ministério do Ambiente, através da Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente, de forma a reduzir os impactos ambientais causados pela prova.

In this scope, the ACP established a partnership with the Ministry of Environment, through the Portuguese Environment Agency, to minimize the environmental impact caused by the event.

Assim, o Vodafone Rally de Portugal irá, de forma consciente, levar a cabo todos os esforços para que o impacto ambiental seja minimizado colocando em prática as seguintes ações:

Therefore, the Vodafone Rally de Portugal will consciously make every effort to ensure that the environmental impact is minimised, putting into practise the following actions:

a. Respeitar todas as leis e regulações ambientais e outros requisitos, bem como o Quadro de Certificação Ambiental da FIA. b. Divulgar e promover o conhecimento ambiental junto dos diferentes agentes (organização, pilotos e todas as equipas envolvidas, e espectadores); c. Procurar cooperação, parceria e intercâmbio com os agentes ambientais; d. Levar em linha de conta o trabalho ambiental e o impacto ambiental na escolha de parceiros e fornecedores e procurar produtos e serviços que garantam um bom desempenho ambiental; e. Reduzir, tanto quanto possível, o impacto ambiental no que respeita aos transportes, incentivando o Car Pooling e o Car Sharing, bem como a utilização de transportes públicos ou outros; f. Preferir, sempre que possível, fontes de energia renováveis; g. Continuar a implementar medidas e estabelecer parcerias para aumentar e melhorar a recolha seletiva do lixo, bem como a eliminação correta e adequada do mesmo; h. Fomentar e melhorar as nossas responsabilidades ambientais com base em tarefas estruturadas e planeadas; i. Envolver todas as autoridades locais das zonas de passagem do rali. j. Reduzir ao máximo o número de documentos impressos em papel, privilegiando a utilização e consulta de documentos em formatos digitais;

Inform and train all involved in the organisation with its environmental policy, promote the environmental awareness within the different agents (organisation, drivers, teams and spectators); c. WRC – ANTEVISAO | PREVIEW EM BUSCA DO HEXA INÉDITO Não há que como contornar o tema. O campeão do mundo em título, Sébastien Ogier, é o grande favorito à vitória na 52.ª edição do Vodafone Rally de Portugal. Líder incontestável da classificação do mundial de pilotos em 2018 (com três vitórias em cinco provas realizadas, mais duas que no ano passado por esta altura) o gaulês procurará, entre os dias 17 e 20 de maio, subir ao topo da hierarquia dos vencedores da prova portuguesa, tornando-se no primeiro piloto a vencer por seis vezes o Vodafone Rally de Portugal.

A par de Markku Alen (1975, 1977, 1978, 1981 e 1987), Sébastien Ogier (2010, 2011, 2013, 2014 e 2017) lidera atualmente a tabela dos pilotos com mais vitória na prova portuguesa e irá, com toda a certeza, procurar destacar-se nesta lista, amealhando mais alguns pontos na luta pelo título de campeão do Mundo que poderá conquistar pela… sexta vez consecutiva.

Mesmo tendo muitos argumentos a seu favor, que o colocam numa posição privilegiada para atacar a vitória, Sébastien Ogier tem contra si, o facto de ser “o alvo a abater”. É verdade que venceu inapelavelmente o Rali de Monte-Carlo, o Rali do México e o Rali da Córsega, mas também não é menos verdade que mostrou ser um comum humano, ao não reagir da melhor forma à ordem de partidas no Rali da Suécia, não conseguindo mais tarde lutar pela vitória no Rali da Argentina. Estes deslizes acalentam as esperanças dos seus adversários e, por isso, no Vodafone Rally de Portugal, o piloto francês terá de se preocupar com o regular piloto belga, Thierry Neuville (Hyundai Shell Mobis), e ainda com o sempre oportuno Kris Meeke (Citroen Total Abu Dhabi), que já venceu a competição portuguesa em 2016 mas que ainda procura a primeira vitória na temporada de 2018. Ott Tanak (Toyota Yaris WRC, da Toyota Gazoo Ra-

cing) venceu a última ronda do campeonato, disputada em solo argentino, é também ele candidato à vitória, no caso de Ogier permitir tal façanha a um dos seus adversários.

Fora da luta pelas contas do campeonato, mas interessados em brilhar esporadicamente neste Mundial de Ralis estão Jari-Matti Latvala, Esapekka Lappi, Andreas Mikkelsen e Dani Sordo.

WRC – ANTEVISAO | PREVIEW SEARCHING FOR ELUSIVE WIN NUMBER SIX There’s no way around it. The reigning World Champion Sébastien Ogier is the favourite to win the 2018 Vodafone Rally of Portugal. The undisputed leader of the championship so far this year - with three wins in five events and two more than this time last year - the French driver will be doing his best to reach the top step of the podium at the Vodafone Rally of Portugal. He would become the driver to score six wins at the event.

Level with Markku Alén (1975, 1977, 1978, 1981 and 1987), Sébastien Ogier (2010, 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2017) tops the statistics as the most successful driver at the rally and will surely race for the sixth victory and crucial championship points.

tion to fight for the win - Ogier is also the man to beat. He was the convincing winner in Monte-Carlo, Mexico and Corsica, but the Frenchman also showed in Sweden that he is human.

He didn’t respond well to his starting order at the Swedish round and he wasn’t able to fight for the win in Argentina either. These negatives fuel the hopes of his rivals and those are the reasons why the Frenchman will have to pay particular attention to the likes of Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) and Kris Meeke (Citroën), who is always on the look out and is one of the few that have managed to beat Ogier in Portugal.

The Ulsterman is also looking for his first victory of the season.

Ott Tänak (Toyota) won the WRC’s last round in Argentina and is also a favourite for the win should Ogier allow one of his rivals to be in the hunt.

Jari-Matti Latvala, Esapekka Lappi, Andreas Mikkelsen and Dani Sordo are not currently fighting for the championship, but are very interested in occasional headlines this year and are names that should also be taken into account.

Bets are in place and the thrill and spills of Portuguese stage action are guaranteed!

Will Ogier be able to score a sixth win at the Portuguese round and take an important step towards another title? Or will someone get in the Frenchman’s way and give the championship renewed vigour, the likes of which hasn’t be felt for a while?

Com cinco provas já disputadas, o sueco e o checo dividem o número de vitórias (duas), sendo o outro vencedor a exceção que confirma a regra neste campeonato. Aos comandos de um Ford Fiesta R5, Takamoto Katsuta foi o único a ousar intrometer-se na luta entre os pilotos que conduzem a máquina checa. Contudo, e tendo em vista a participação na prova portuguesa que se aproxima, o japonês tomou uma decisão estratégica de não

marcar presença no Rali da Argentina, competindo no Rali de Mortágua onde se preparou da melhor forma para o Vodafone Rally de Portugal.

WRC 2 DRIVER DUEL WITH SIMILAR MACHINERY The next generation of World Rally Championship drivers are currently competing in the WRC 2 category. Indications from the start of this season confirm that a strong future is assured. The duel between Pontus Tidemand and Jan Kopecky has the Škoda Fabia R5 as the crucial linking factor.

Tidemand currently leads the series, but the Vodafone Rally of Portugal could well be the stage for changes at the top of the points’ standings.

After five rounds, the Swede and the Czech have the same number of wins (two apiece), with the only other victorious driver being an exception to the rule. At the wheel of a Ford Fiesta R5, Takamoto Katsuta is the only one so far to beat the Czech car drivers.

With the Rally of Portugal in mind, the Japanese driver made a strategic decision not to take part in

Rally Argentina. Instead, he opted to race at the Rally de Mortágua, the most recent round of the Portuguese Rally Championship.

In Portugal, therefore, the WRC2 category will include the best drivers and promises to be very interesting.

Any bets? It’s probably best to wait until the end...

O Vodafone Rally de Portugal fica marcado pelo regresso de Armindo Araújo a uma prova do Mundial de Ralis. Bi-Campeão do Mundo de PWRC (2009 e 2010), o piloto que agora defende as cores da Team Hyundai Portugal voltará a marcar presença num evento que já venceu à geral por três ocasiões (2003, 2004 e 2006).

The Vodafone Rally of Portugal will host the return of Armindo Araújo to an FIA World Rally Championship event. The two-time PWRC Champion (2009 and 2010) has already won the Rally of Portugal three times (2003, 2004 and 2005) and will compete at the wheel of Team Hyundai Portugal’s i20 R5 car on this occasion.

Quem não marcará presença na prova é Ricardo Moura. Apesar de ter dominado de forma clara os dois primeiros eventos da temporada, e de manter a liderança do Campeonato de Portugal de Ralis, o piloto açoriano, que este ano já utilizou um Ford Fiesta R5 e um Skoda Fabia R5, decidiu, já com a época em curso, que o seu futuro profissional se sobrepõe ao seu futuro desportivo, não tendo para já nenhum rali dado como certo até ao final da temporada.
