El Mallorca Championships presented by Waterdrop situa el nom de Mallorca a l’avantguarda de l’escenari internacional del tenis. Un torneig que atreu jugadors i aficionats per igual, consolidant-se com una de les cites més importants del món del tenis a nivell mundial.

És un orgull poder acollir aquest esdeveniment, on any rere any passen per les pistes de Mallorca els millors jugadors del món, sent un atractiu per aficionats que fa mesos que tenen aquesta cita marcada al calendari. A més de la importància del torneig, que marca l’emocionant final de la gira d’herba prèvia a Wimbledon i ho fa a la nostra illa.

Ens sentim molt orgullosos de poder ser una destinació d’acollida pels amants de l’esport. Les Illes Balears som una terra estretament lligada al món del tenis, d’on hi han tants de tenistes que són referents internacionals. Un any més, l’ATP 250 Mallorca Championships presented by Waterdrop situa el nom de Mallorca a l’avantguarda de l’escenari internacional del tennis, atraient a la nostra illa els millors jugadors del món. Enguany, en aquesta quarta edició del torneig, segur que serem testimonis de moments impressionants, partits vibrants i jugades espectaculars. Viurem uns dies plens d’emoció, esport, bon ambient i un esperit competitiu sa i respectuós.

Así es. Cada dos meses, recibimos a nuestros homólogos ingleses que realizan una inspección exhaustiva del estado de la hierba. Toman muestras para su análisis, miden la extensión de la hierba y se aseguran de que todo esté en condiciones.

¿Cómo abordas la sostenibilidad en el mantenimiento de las pistas? En el Mallorca Country Club, tenemos un enfoque muy sostenible en el mantenimiento de nuestras pistas de hierba. En invierno, no regamos las pistas, lo que ayuda a conservar agua y mantener la hierba en un estado de letargo durante los meses más fríos. En verano, utilizamos agua reciclada para regar las pistas, lo que nos permite conservar los recursos hídricos.

What are the main demands of maintaining this type of grass?

Wimbledon grass is known to be quite delicate and requires a lot of care and attention. It’s important to keep it short and uniform to ensure fair and consistent play.

We’ve heard that officials from Wimbledon even come by to ensure everything is up to standard?

That’s correct. Every two months, we welcome our English counterparts who conduct a thorough inspection of the grass condition. They take samples for analysis, measure the extent of the grass, and ensure everything is up to standard.

How do you approach sustainability in maintaining the courts?

At the Mallorca Country Club, we have a very sustainable approach to maintaining our grass courts. In winter, we don’t water the courts, which helps conserve water and keep the grass dormant during the colder months. In summer, we use recycled water to irrigate the courts, allowing us to conserve water resources.

What happens to the courts after the ATP250 tournament?

After the tournament, we let the grass “die” to conserve resources, as the temperature is too high. We overseed the courts in September, which gives us time to ensure the courts are in perfect condition for the next season.
