UN PASO MÁS, UN RETO MÁS La celebración de la segunda edición del Mallorca Championships supone un paso más hacia la consolidación de un evento deportivo de primer orden, que situa a Mallorca y a Balears en el foco internacional del mundo del tenis con la participación de algunas de las mejores raquetas del mundo. Es también un paso más hacia la ansiada normalidad tras dos años de enormes dificultades por los efectos de la pandemia, también en el mundo del deporte y el turismo. Quiero felicitar a la organización del Mallorca Cham-
pionships por su coraje y haber superado las advdersidades para celebrar ya el año pasado la primera edición de este torneo, en una sede magnífica como es el Mallorca Country Club, en el municipio de Calvià. Es ese mismo espíritu de superación el que ha hecho que Mallorca y Balears esté recuperando la normalidad de manera más rápida y sólida, gracias al esfuerzo conjuntos de sus ciudadanos y ciudadanas, de sus empresarios y empresarias, y de sus trabajadores y trabajadoras.
Ahora afrontamos un nuevo reto con la lección aprendida. Estoy convencida de que la celebración de esta nueva edición del Mallorca Championships supondrá la consolidación definitiva de este torneo como cita del tenis mundial al principio del verano, y aprovecho la ocasión como presidenta del Govern de les Illes Balears para desear lo mejor a los participantes, a los organización y al público que nos visitará. MALLORCA ABRE SUS PUERTAS AL MEJOR TENIS DEL MUNDO Del 18 al 25 de junio Mallorca volverá a disfrutar de algunas de las mejores raquetas del tour masculino en el Mallorca Championships ATP 250. Por segundo año consecutivo la hierba del Mallorca Country Club servirá de inmejorable preparación para todos los aspirantes a coronarse en Wimbledon. Ya lo tenemos todo a punto para que nuestra isla vuelva a ser el escenario ideal para la celebración de un gran evento deportivo de repercusión mundial. El tenis de alta competición está unido a Mallorca por los nombres de Carlos Moyà y Rafa Nadal. Y gracias a Emotion Group, ahora también contamos
con el Mallorca Championships, dirigido por Toni Nadal. En este verano de reencuentros, en el que por fin podemos volver a disfrutar con normalidad de las cosas buenas que tiene la vida, Mallorca ofrece el mismo atractivo de siempre y está perfectamente preparada para recibir a nuestros visitantes. Eventos como este gran torneo de tenis nos sirven como escaparate perfecto para mostrarnos al mundo tal y como somos. Espero ver repletas las 4000 localidades de la pista central del Mallorca Country en Santa Ponça, para
que la gente pueda paladear el mejor tenis del mundo, al igual que yo lo hice el año pasado, en una final increíble que ganó Daniil Medvedev. Así que, con saque y volea, o desde el fondo de la pista. Asimismo, no puedo dejar de agradecer al equipo organizador su esfuerzo y trabajo en los meses pasados para que esta edición pueda volver a ser un gran éxito en todos los sentidos. Por Vosotros: Los Fans Después de un año y medio en el que la situación sanitaria nos hacía atravesar grandes dificultades, en junio de 2021 volvían los eventos deportivos y con él la posibilidad de salir y disfrutar como no habíamos podido en los 16 meses anteriores. Si la edición de 2020 tuvo que ser cancelada, en la de 2021, con aforo limitado al 50% y siguiendo la normativa sanitaria, el público disfrutó del mejor tenis del mundo en Mallorca y sobre hierba. La primera edición del ATP 250 por tanto fue por y para vosotros los fans que tanto necesitábamos salir, reír y disfrutar del mejor tenis. Mallorca Championships 2021 será recordado como la primera edición, pero sobre todo como uno de los primeros lugares de encuentro entre los amantes del tenis.

. Por Los Jugadores La edición de 2021 contó con un cartel que poco o nada tiene que envidiar a otros grandes torneos. Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, Dominic Thiem, Casper Ruud, Roberto Bautista o Pablo Carreño son solo algunos de los nombres de los tenistas que recibimos en el Mallorca Country Club. Un gran torneo recibe a los mejores jugadores del planeta y el Mallorca Championships está entre ellos. Además, Feliciano López hizo historia al lograr su victoria nº 500 en el circuito derrotando al medallista olímpico Karen Kachanov en un auténtico partidazo.

. Por La Isla Más de 20 años después volvía un torneo de la ATP a la isla y concre-
tamente a Calviá. Baleares se merece un evento de este tamaño y repercusión internacional y que sigamos poniendo el nombre de las islas por todo el globo terráqueo. El único torneo de hierba que se celebra en nuestro país lo acoge el Mallorca Country Club y la isla se enorgullece de tener un evento tan exclusivo a nivel mundial.

Because Of You: The Fans After a year and a half in which the health situation caused us great difficulties, in June 2021 sporting events returned and brought with them the chance to go out and enjoy ourselves as we had not been able to do in the previous 16 months. While the 2020 edition had to be cancelled, in the 2021 edition, with capacity limited to 50% and following health regulations, the public enjoyed the best tennis in the world in Mallorca and on grass. The first edition of the ATP 250 was for and by you, the fans, who needed to get out, laugh and unwind. Mallorca Championships 2021 will be remembered as the first edition, but above all as one of the first meeting places for tennis lovers during this difficult situation.

. For The Players The 2021 edition featured an amazing line-up. Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, Dominic Thiem, Casper Ruud, Roberto Bautista and Pablo Carreño are just some of the names of the tennis players we welcome to the Mallorca Country Club. A great tournament welcomes the best players on the planet and the Mallorca Championships is among them. The ATP 250 Mallorca Championships tournament celebrates its second edition from the 18th to the 25th of June at the Mallorca Country Club in Santa Ponça. The event, organised by e|motion group, is the only tournament in Southern Europe that is held on grass and its unique atmosphere will allow attendees to enjoy the best tennis matches from a position where sport and gourmet go hand in hand
and where you can find the most exclusive tennis community on the island. In June 2021, the first edition of the Mallorca Championships was held, and featured many of the best players on the circuit such as Novak Djokovic, tournament champion Daniil Medevedev and Dominic Thiem among others. El torneo un año más toma una apuesta decidida por la sostenibilidad. Conscientes de la necesidad de seguir avanzando en esta materia, el torneo quiere dejar claro que la sostenibilidad y el deporte tienen que ir de la mano. Por todo ello, el torneo ha dado un paso al frente en sostenibilidad y ha adoptado las siguientes medidas: En este sentido, el torneo cuenta con la marca de hidratación austriaca waterdrop® como uno de los principales patrocinadores del evento. Se trata de una alianza sostenible fundamental ya que el objetivo de la marca es animar a la gente a beber más agua y de forma sostenible. Para ello, waterdrop® proveerá al Mallorca Championships banquillos inteligentes de hidratación para los jugadores en la pista, pero también de soluciones innovadoras de hidratación, incluyendo estaciones de hidratación y bar para el público. Además, el torneo y waterdrop® donarán 1 euro a Mallorca Preservation Fund por cada botella rellenable que se compre en el torneo. Se espera que con la
venta de estas botellas el torneo ahorre el uso de más de 50.000 botellas de plástico durante el evento. Nuestra misión es inspirar a la gente de todo el mundo a beber más agua de forma sostenible. Desarrollamos soluciones ecológicas para promover el consumo responsable de agua del grifo y evitar embotellar bebidas insostenibles y, en su mayoría, insalubres.“, ha añadido Martin Murray, director general y fundador de waterdrop®. En España se utilizan cada año más de 19 millones de pelotas de tenis. Qué sucede después del uso de las pelotas es algo que pocas veces nos preguntamos y terminan en la mayoría de los casos en una papelera sin haber sido recicladas. Son más de 1000 toneladas anuales de caucho que tardarán más de 100 años en descomponerse. Como sociedad tenemos un reto y es por ello que el ATP250 Mallorca Championships gracias a Green Ball y en colaboración con Rakuten mediante un proceso de va-
lorización energética cerramos el círculo de la economía circular al volver a introducir las pelotas en el mercado convirtiéndolas en energía, impidiendo que terminen en vertedero. Mejoramos la huella de carbono. Además, os animamos a todos a traer pelotas de tenis que tengáis en casa y que no vayáis a usar más, para poder reciclarlas. Con las pelotas que se reciclen se podría abastecer una familia durante más de seis meses. El torneo además es un espacio libre de humos donde se fomenta y facilita el uso de entradas electrónicas evitando la impresión innecesaria de papel. Una muestra de la sensibilidad sostenible es que todas las acreditaciones que se encuentran en malas condiciones o que finalmente no se usan se reciclan así como encontrarás a lo largo de todo el recinto contenedores que faciliten y aseguren el reciclaje. Destaca también el uso de LED en la pista central que evita además que se tenga que imprimir en mayores cantidades.

The tournament is once again making a firm commitment to sustainability. Conscious of the need to make further progress in this area, the tournament aims to make it clear that sustainability and sport must go hand in hand. The tournament has therefore taken a step forward in sustainability and has adopted the following big measures: In this respect, the tournament counts the Austrian hydration brand waterdrop® as one of the main sponsors of the event. This is a crucial sustainable partnership as the brand’s aim is to encourage people to drink more water in a sustainable way. To do this, waterdrop® will provide the Mallorca Championships with smart hydration stations for the players on the court, but also with innovative hydration solutions, including hydration stations and a bar for the public. In addition, the tournament and waterdrop® will donate 1 euro to Mallorca Preservation Fund for each refillable bottle purchased at the tournament. The sale of these bottles is expected to save the tournament from using more than 50,000 plastic bottles during the event. “Our mission is to inspire people around the world to drink more water sustainably. We develop eco-friendly solutions to promote responsible tap water consumption and avoid bottling unsustainable and mostly unhealthy beverages”, added Martin Murray, CEO and founder of waterdrop®.

More than 19 million tennis balls are used every year in Spain. What happens after the balls have been used is something we rarely consider and in most cases they end up in a rubbish bin without being recycled. This is more than 1,000 tonnes of rubber per year, which will take more than 100 years to decompose. As a society we have a challenge and that is why the ATP250 Mallorca Championships thanks to Green Ball and in collaboration with Rakuten through a process of energy recovery we close the circle of the circular economy by returning the balls to the market by turning them into energy, preventing them from ending up in landfill. We improve our carbon footprint. We also encourage all of you to bring tennis balls that you have at home and that you are not going to use any more, so that you can recycle them. The recycled balls could support a family for more than six months.

Sin embargo, por si todo esto fuera poco llega junio y el club vive el momento más espectacular de la temporada: el Mallorca Country Club es la sede del ATP250 Mallorca Championships, el único torneo de hierba que se celebra en el sur de Europa y que sirve de antesala para el tercer Grand Slam de la temporada, el prestigioso torneo de Wimbledon. Esas semanas el club se viste de largo para acoger el mayor evento deportivo que se celebra en la isla y el único torneo ATP de hierba que se disputa en España. • 47 But that is not all, in addition to the space for racket sports, the club has a dedicated physiotherapy service and a 300 square meter gym, with an area reserved for cardio work, functional and personal training as well. This state-of-the-art sports facility has a privileged view of the surrounding environment and directly to one of the main courts. We could not finish this list without mentioning the excellent service offered by Christian’s Restaurant with a delicious menu to match the club’s standards. The club hosts numerous events throughout the year, from sporting tournaments to private events, concerts, corporate dinners and much more. However, as if all this were not enough, when June arrives, the club experiences the most amazing moment of the season: the Mallorca Country Club hosts the ATP250 Mallorca Championships, the only grass-court tournament held in southern Europe, which serves as a preparation for the third Grand Slam of the season, the prestigious Wimbledon tournament. During these weeks the club turns out to host the biggest sporting event held on the island and the only ATP grass-court tournament held in Spain. •
