I am, of course, biased but there are few better spectacles in sport than grass court tennis. At the All England Club, we have enshrined being a ‘guardian of tennis’ as one of our strategic ambitions; helping to drive our sport’s future and ensure the grass court season continues to thrive. It is the All England Club’s pleasure, therefore, to continue to support the Mallorca Championships, and see it go from strength to strength.
The team will have been busy over the last several weeks, curating wonderful grounds to provide guests with an enriching experience and cultivating pristine grass court surfaces to afford the players the best possible preparation in the build-up to Wimbledon. Para Edwin Weindorfer, los grandes eventos deportivos son mucho más que pura competición. Como CEO del grupo e|motion, es la fuerza creativa detrás de torneos emblemáticos como los Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Championships y los Vanda Pharmaceuticals Women’s Championships, el ATP Boss Open de Stuttgart y el Austrian Alpine Open de golf en Kitzbühel. En esta entrevista, habla sobre ambiente, evolución y por qué la combinación perfecta entre deporte de clase mundial, estilo de vida y emoción es lo que convierte un evento en una experiencia verdaderamente inolvidable.
Sr. Weindorfer, este año el torneo celebra su sexta edición. ¿Qué es lo que sigue entusiasmándole más?
¿Sinceramente? La energía. Cada año vuelve a sentirse especial cuando todo encaja: los jugadores, los aficionado, los partners, el equipo. Planificasdurante meses, pero es en la semana del torneo cuando te das cuenta de verdad: por esto hacemos todo esto. El ambiente aquí, en el Mallorca Country Club, es simplemente único.
¿Hay alguna decisión de la que se sienta especialmente orgulloso como organizador del torneo?
Más que una decisión concreta, diría que es el valor de seguir evolucionando el torneo paso a paso. Nunca hemos querido quedarnos quietos. Ya sea en la organización, en la experiencia del público o en la infraestructura, cada año nos preguntamos: ¿qué podemos mejorar? ¿dónde podemos dar un paso más? Haber seguido ese camino con coherencia es algo que me llena de orgullo.
Una de esas mejoras es la nueva infraestructura, con el VIP Dome para catering y los palcos VIP climatizados a pie de pista. ¿Por qué era un paso importante?
Queríamos llevar la experiencia de nuestros invitados a un nuevo nivel. El VIP Dome crea un punto de encuentro central con gastronomía de alta calidad y vistas directas al Center Court, y los nuevos palcos VIP junto a la pista son, sin duda, uno de los grandes atractivos de esta edición, especialmente
en esta época del año. El confort es clave, y estas inversiones reflejanclaramente hacia dónde queremos que evolucione el torneo.
Y no solo los asistentes VIP se benefician de las novedades de este año…
En absoluto. También hemos puesto un foco muy claro en la experiencia del público general. Por primera vez, la Fan Zone está completamente cubierta, en la sombra. Puede parecer un detalle menor, pero para el bienestar de los visitantes marca una gran diferencia. Este tipo de mejoras demuestra que siempre pensamos el torneo como una experiencia global.
¿Qué hace especial al torneo de Mallorca frente a otros eventos del circuito?
La isla en sí es un factor decisivo. El entorno, el atractivo de Mallorca, la cercanía al mar… todo eso se percibe. A eso se suma este césped espectacular, de calidad Wimbledon,
integrado en pleno paisaje mediterráneo del Mallorca Country Club. Pero también está el ambiente: profesional, pero relajado, con un toque de sensación vacacional. Los jugadores se sienten cómodos, los invitados se sienten bienvenidos. Muchos nos dicen que se vive menos como un torneo clásico y más como un auténtico evento, y eso nos encanta escuchar.
¿Qué no se ve desde fuera, pero es clave para el éxito del torneo?
Sin ninguna duda, el equipo. Detrás hay un trabajo enorme: desde la planificacióninicial, pasando por el montaje, hasta la propia semana del torneo. Son muchos días largos y muchísimos detalles. Nada de esto sería posible sin el compromiso durante todo el año de Pilar Carbonell, directora general de e|motion Sports España, y de todo su equipo. Igualmente fundamentales son nuestros partners institucionales y privados, así como los patrocinadores que nos acompañan desde hace años y creen en la visión del torneo. Estoy profundamente agradecido por ello y, este año, de manera muy especial, a nuestro patrocinador principal Vanda Pharmaceuticals.
Para terminar: si tuviera que describir el torneo con una sola palabra, ¿cuál sería? Pasión y estilo de vida mediterráneo. Son valores que están presentes en todo lo que hacemos aquí.

For Edwin Weindorfer, great sporting events are about far more than competition. As CEO of the e|motion group, he is the creative force behind iconic tournaments such as the Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Championships and Vanda Pharmaceuticals Womens Championships, the ATP Boss Open in Stuttgart and the Austrian Alpine Open golf tournament in Kitzbühel. In this interview, he talks about atmosphere, evolution and why the perfect blend of worldclass sport, lifestyle and emotion is what truly makes an event unforgettable.
Mr Weindorfer, this year marks the sixth edition of the tournament. What still excites you most about it?
Honestly? The energy. Every single year it feels special again when everything comes together — the players, the fans, the partners, the team. You plan for months, but it’s only during tournament week that you truly feel: This is why we do it. The atmosphere here at the Mallorca Country Club is simply unique.
Is there a decision you’re particularly proud of as tournament organizer?
It’s less about one single decision and more about having the courage to keep evolving the event step by step. We never wanted to stand still. Whether it’s organization, the fan experience or the infrastructure, every year we ask ourselves: What can we do better? Where can we raise the bar? Staying committed to that mindset is something I’m very proud of.
One of those improvements is the new infrastructure, including the VIP Dome with catering and airconditioned VIP suites right at the court. Why was this step important?
We wanted to take the guest experience to the next level. The VIP Dome creates a central meeting point with premium catering and a direct view of the Center Court, while the new VIP boxes right at the court are a real highlight — especially in summer conditions. Comfort plays a huge role, and these investments clearly show the direction in which we want the tournament to develop.
And it’s not just VIP guests who benefit from changes this year…
Absolutely not. We’ve also focused heavily on the general fan experience. For the first time, the Fan Zone is completely shaded. That may sound like a small detail, but for visitors’ comfort it makes a massive difference. Improvements like this show that we’re always looking at the tournament experience as a whole.
What sets the Mallorca tournament apart from other events on the circuit?
The island itself is obviously a huge factor. The location, the island’s appeal, the proximity to the sea — you can feel it. Add to that this stunning Wimbledon - quality grass, set in the heart of the Mediterranean landscape at the Mallorca Country Club. But it’s also the
atmosphere: professional yet relaxed, with a touch of holiday flai. Players feel comfortable, guests feel welcome. Many tell us it feels less like a traditional tournament and more like a true event — and that’s wonderful to hear.
What’s something people don’t see from the outside, but that’s crucial to the tournament’s success?
Without a doubt, the team. An incredible amount of work goes into this — from early planning to construction and finally tournament week itself. Long days, countless details. None of this would be possible without the yearround commitment of Pilar Carbonell, Managing Director of e|motion Sports España, and her team. Equally important are our institutional and private partners and sponsors who have supported us for years and believe in the vision. I’m extremely grateful for that — and this year especially to our title sponsor, Vanda Pharmaceuticals.
Finally: if you had to describe the tournament in one word — what would it be?
Passion and Spanish joie de vivre. Those qualities are at the heart of everything we do here.

¿Qué signifia para usted, a nivel personal y profesional, que Mallorca tenga un torneo de hierba en el calendario ATP?
A nivel personal es una gran satisfacción. Me gusta el tenis y que Mallorca tenga un torneo de esta categoría, y además sobre hierba, lo hace especialmente ilusionante. A nivel profesional, dirigir un ATP que cada año crece, se consolida y mejora es un orgullo añadido.
¿Qué aporta el Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Championships al camino hacia Wimbledon?
Aporta algo fundamental: competición real sobre hierba. Los jugadores necesitan partidos antes de Wimbledon y no es fácil prepararse bien porque la temporada es muy corta. Aquí pueden jugar con buen clima, en instalaciones de primer nivel y con pistas
en perfectas condiciones. Eso es una preparación excelente.
Desde su experiencia, ¿qué es lo que más valora hoy un jugador en un torneo como este?
Principalmente la calidad de las pistas y el trato. También el clima y la comodidad. En el circuito a veces hay problemas logísticos; aquí intentamos que todo sea sencillo. Estar en Mallorca, sentirse bien atendido y poder centrarse solo en jugar es algo que los jugadores valoran mucho.
¿Cómo ha visto la evolución del torneo desde sus primeras ediciones?
No ha sido fácil. Empezamos en un contexto complicado, incluso en tiempos de pandemia, pero el torneo ha ido creciendo año
tras año hasta convertirse en un ATP 250 de altísimo nivel. Hoy es un torneo reconocido y muy bien valorado por los jugadores.
¿Qué papel juega el entorno en el rendimiento del jugador?
Muy importante. El rendimiento no es solo físico; el aspecto emocional cuenta mucho. Buen tiempo, una isla agradable, buenos hoteles y un entorno tranquilo ayudan a que el jugador se sienta a gusto y rinda mejor.
Cuando alguien piense en el torneo dentro de unos años, ¿qué le gustaría que recordara?
Que fue una gran experiencia. Que el trato fue excelente, que todo estaba bien organizado, que las pistas y los servicios estuvieron a la altura y que jugar en Mallorca mereció la pena.

What does it mean to you, personally and professionally, for Mallorca to host a grass-court tournament on the ATP calendar?
On a personal level, it is a great source of satisfaction. I love tennis, and having a tournament of this level in Mallorca, especially on grass, makes it particularly special. Professionally, being the director of an ATP event that grows, consolidates and improves year after year is an added source of pride.
What does the Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Championships contribute to the road to Wimbledon?
Something essential: real competition on grass. Players need matches before Wimbledon, and proper preparation is not easy because the grass season is very short. Here they can compete in good weather, with top-level facilities and perfectly prepared courts. That makes for excellent preparation.
From your experience, what do players value most today in a tournament like this?
Above all, the quality of the courts and the way they are treated. Climate and comfort also play an important role. On the tour, logistical issues can sometimes be a problem; here we try to make everything as smooth as possible. Being in Mallorca, feeling well looked after and being able to focus solely on playing is something players truly appreciate.
How have you seen the tournament evolve since its first editions
It hasn’t been easy. We started in a very challenging context, during the pandemic, but the tournament has grown year after year into a very high-level ATP 250. Today, it is a well-established and highly regarded event among players.
What role does the environment play in a player’s performance?
A very important one. Performance is not only physical; the emotional side matters a
great deal. Good weather, a beautiful island, high-quality hotels and a calm environment help players feel comfortable and perform at their best.
When people think about the tournament in a few years’ time, what would you like them to remember?
That it was a great experience. That the treatment was excellent, everything was well organised, the courts and services met expectations, and that playing in Mallorca was truly worthwhile.

1. Sé su refugio, no su míster
Tu hijo ya tiene un entrenador en la pista. En la grada necesita un padre o una madre que le dé un espacio seguro y apoyo incondicional, juegue como juegue.

Viven en la era de la dopamina y la atención fugaz. Aunque parezca que no escuchan, cada mensaje deja residuo. Confía en la constancia de la gota.
6. Usa la regla del «tú primero»
No dictes sentencia al acabar el partido. Pregunta antes de opinar y deja espacio para que tu hijo construya su propio criterio.
7. Controla tus cejas (el radar invisible)
Los niños lo captan todo. No sirve decir “no pasa nada” si tu cuerpo muestra lo contrario. Creerán más a lo que ven que a lo que oyen.
8. Con no presionar, no basta
A veces el mayor enemigo es el rival interior. Ayúdale a gestionar esa presión y a entender que su valor no depende de un marcador.
9. El coche es un búnker, no el tercer set
Al cerrarse el maletero, el tenis se detiene. Hablar, distraerse o silencio: que elija él. El coche es su espacio para volver a ser niño.
10. Ganar hoy no siempre es crecer mañana
En formación solemos premiar el resultado y olvidar el proceso. Si se elige el atajo para ganar hoy, la formación se detiene. Importa más ser mejor mañana que levantar una copa hoy.

1. Be a refuge, not the coach
Your child already has a coach on court. In the stands, what they need is a safe place and unconditional support, win or lose.
2. Protect the “red thread” of your authority
Authority is not a lifetime title; it’s limited capital. Every unnecessary correction pulls on the thread. Don’t waste your influence on trivial orders.
3. Apply the Rule of the Three Bullets
Each day you only have three messages your child will truly hear. If you spend them on trivial details, there will be no ammo left when frustration hits.
4. Separate noise from signal
Noise is constant instruction that gets ignored. Signal is nonnegotiable values. Turn down the noise and repeat the signal.
5. Have the patience of a stalactite
They live in the age of dopamine and short attention spans. Even if it seems they are not listening, every message leaves residue. Trust the drip, not the downpour.
6. Use the “you firs” rule
Don’t deliver a verdict right after the match. Ask before you judge. Leave space and silence so your child can build their own criteria.
7. Control your eyebrows (the invisible radar)
Kids read everything. Saying “it’s fin” means nothing if your body says the opposite. They will always trust what they see over what they hear.
8. Not pressuring is not enough
Sometimes the biggest enemy is internal. Help them manage that invisible pressure and understand their value is not definedby the score.
9. The car is a bunker, not a third set
When the trunk closes, tennis stops. Talking, distraction or silence — let them choose. The car is where the player decompresses and the child comes back.
10. Winning today is not always growing tomorrow
In youth tennis we judge children by adult standards. If shortcuts are chosen to win today, development stops. The goal is not today’s trophy, but becoming better tomorrow.
