Verb be | Long Forms and Contractions 1. Read the text quickly and answer in your notebook: What does ASL mean?

American Sign Language (ASL) is a complete language expressed by movements of the hands and face. The grammar in ASL is not the same from English and it is only used in the United States. The sign languages are not the same in all English-speaking countries. They are different in each country.

Some examples are the British Sign Language (BSL) and Australian Sign Language (Auslan). The exact beginnings of ASL are not clear. People say it is around 200 years old.
