small community shop stocked with essential items such as flour, eggs, pasta, porridge oats and tinned goods. Although the site's bakery isn't open at the moment, the shop is stocking freshly baked bread when possible, made offsite by the baker. Flour has also been hard to find during the pandemic so the shop's supply, along with other items in stock, offers an alternative to supermarket shelves. The mill has uploaded 'Bake with us' recipes to its Instagram account.

When Sarehole Mill opened a modern bakery in February it was exciting news, as it would mean bread being baked on the premises for the first time in almost 150 years. The Victorian bakehouse was restored alongside the opening of the new facility, and Sir Kaur followed in the footsteps of the last baker, William Anderton, who retired in 1872. Pizza and sweet treats would also be served at the on-site cafe.

The mill celebrated a successful soft launch for the bakery, before life took a very unexpected direction for all of us. Sarehole Mill closed on March 18 along with all other Birmingham museums.
