MARATHON RAVENNA MARATONA Ci siamo, Novembre è finalmente arrivato!

Siamo pronti ad emozionarci e provare nuove sensazioni insieme.

Siamo pronti all’edizione 2023 della Maratona di Ravenna Città d’Arte, il grande contenitore di colore, calore, gioia, sport, eventi. In una parola: emozioni.

Ravenna è pronta ad accogliere migliaia di runner e non solo che invaderanno le vie della città a suon di sport e divertimento. Ravenna Runners Club è pronta a tornare per strada con il suo caleidoscopio di manifestazioni e appuntamenti che animeranno il week-end dal 10 al 12 novembre.

Ogni maxi-contenitore che si rispetti contiene tante cose, in questo caso tanti eventi. Dal venerdì pomeriggio l’apertura dell’Expo Marathon Village, allestito nella struttura che da sempre ospita lo sport a Ravenna, il Pala de André. Al sabato mattina, nella zona della biglietteria del Palasport, la Family Run con 2 km per famiglie, nonne, zii e istituti scolastici del territorio. A seguire la carovana chiassosa e colorata della Dogs & Run, con cani e le loro famiglie gli uni al fianco degli altri.

Domenica 12 il giorno che tutti attendono. Un piccolo, ma dal significato importantissimo, assaggio iniziale con Correndo Senza Frontiere riservato ai diversamente abili ed ai loro accompagnatori. Poi, i tre start che da quest’anno torneranno ad essere nello stesso luogo, il Pala de André: Maratona di Ravenna Città d’Arte 42K, Ravenna Half Marathon 21K e dopo solo un’ora partirà il fiume colorato, infinito, gioioso, fragoroso, allegro e incosciente della Martini Good Morning Ravenna 10K. Per tutti l’arrivo rimarrà in Via di Roma dove torneremo a vivere insieme le emozioni più belle, quelle provate sotto un traguardo che per tutti noi rappresenterà anche un nuovo inizio.

We are ready for the 2023 edition of the Marathon in Ravenna City of Art, the great container of color, warmth, joy, sport, events. In one word: emotions.

Ravenna is ready to welcome thousands of runners and others who will invade the streets of the city with sport and entertainment. Ravenna Runners Club is ready to return to the streets with its kaleidoscope of events and events that will liven up the weekend from 10th to 12th November.

Every self-respecting maxi-container contains many things, in this case many events. From Friday afternoon the opening of the Expo Marathon Village, set up in the structure that has always hosted sport in Ravenna, the Pala de André. Then, the three starts that will return to the same place this year, the Pala de André: Maratona di Ravenna Città d’Arte 42K, Ravenna Half Marathon 21K and after just an hour the colourful, infinite river will start joyful, thunderous, cheerful and reckless of the Martini Good Morning Ravenna 10K. For everyone the arrival will remain in Via di Roma where we will return to experience the most beautiful emotions together, those felt under a finish line which for all of us will also represent a new beginning.

SINDACO DI RAVENNA Prossima al compimento del quarto di secolo, la 24esima edizione della Maratona di Ravenna città d’Arte si presenta ricca di novità. L’evento è cresciuto negli anni, si è radicato nel territorio, gode dell’affetto e della simpatia di tutti i cittadini, non solo degli sportivi, e di coloro che a vario grado e titolo vi partecipano. Tutto questo perché ha saputo andare oltre lo sport e l’invito alla forma fisica e al benessere psicologico che la Corsa sportiva contiene; il suo merito più grande è aver saputo interpretare lo spirito e il cuore della città, valorizzandone gli aspetti culturali e stimolandone la cifra identitaria legata alla naturale vocazione verso socialità e accoglienza. La Maratona è la festa della città, dei cittadini e delle cittadine, maratoneti e non, e di tutti coloro che raggiungono Ravenna dal resto d’Italia e d’Europa per un evento sportivo e agonistico formidabile che si rivela una immersione nella bellezza e nella gioia di vivere.

Tra le novità, quest’anno spicca il percorso completamente rinnovato: infatti, ci sarà una nuova location per la partenza che sarà il Pala de André mentre resterà invariata la zona di arrivo che resterà in via di Roma. Mai come quest’anno il nostro Expo Marathon Village allestito al Pala de André sarà il centro nevralgico per accogliere il mondo dei maratoneti e dei ravennati rendendo il cuore pulsante del weekend della Maratona ancor più accogliente, vivibile ed internazionale. Tra i ringraziamenti, il più sentito, va alla città e ai ravennati che grazie alla loro partecipazione hanno reso la nostra 10K un appuntamento tutto da vivere, un momento unico per stare insieme da trascorrere tra le bellissime vie della nostra meravigliosa città. Ai volontari e a tutti coloro che si rendono operosi per la riuscita dell’evento, una citazione particolare, perché ogni anno si mettono a disposizione con passione e impegno. Ci auguriamo che ancora una volta possa essere un weekend di gioia e divertimento arricchito, inoltre, dai tanti runners provenienti da tutto il mondo e da tutta la penisola italiana che renderanno la città di Ravenna piena di colori e spensieratezza. Un grazie mai scontato alle Istituzioni, lungimiranti e attente alle nostre esigenze organizzative. Grazie a tutte le Forze dell’Ordine e alla Polizia Municipale che rendono possibile la riuscita di questo evento in piena sicurezza. The event has grown over the years, has taken root in the territory, enjoys the affection and sympathy of all citizens, not just athletes, and those who participate in it in various degrees and capacities. All this because he was able to go beyond sport and the invitation to physical fitness and psychological well-being that running contains; its greatest merit is having been able to interpret the spirit and heart of the city, enhancing its cultural aspects and stimulating its identity linked to its natural vocation towards sociality and hospitality. Among the new features, this year the completely renewed route stands out: in fact, there will be a new location for the start which will be the Pala de André while the arrival area will remain unchanged which will remain in via di Roma. Never like this year will our Expo Marathon Village set up at Pala de André be the nerve center to welcome the world of marathon runners and people from Ravenna, making the beating heart of the Marathon weekend even more welcoming, liveable and international. Among the thanks, the most heartfelt, goes to the city and to the people of Ravenna who, thanks to their participation, have made our 10K an event to be experienced, a unique moment to be together to spend among the beautiful streets of our wonderful city. A special mention to the volunteers and all those who work hard to make the event a success, because every year they make themselves available with passion and commitment. We hope that once again it will be a weekend of joy and fun enriched, moreover, by the many runners from all over the world and from the entire Italian peninsula who will make the city of Ravenna full of colors and light-heartedness. A never-to-be-expected thank you to the institutions, far-sighted and attentive to our organizational needs. Thanks to all the law enforcement agencies and the municipal police who make this event possible in complete safety.

Family Run! SATURDAY NOVEMBER 11 THE EVENT FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

Quando lo sport è alla portata di tutti, è aggregazione, è amicizia, è famiglia.

Quando lo sport non è solo agonismo, ma anche il piacere di stare insieme e di prendere parte ad un evento che attraversa le strade della città in una giornata di festa tra famiglie e scolaresche, perché lo sport è sempre per tutti!

Sabato 11 novembre torniamo a camminare o correre insieme a mamma, papà, zii e nonni con la Family Run, 2 km circa di benessere e sorrisi.

Come l’anno scorso la manifestazione si svolgerà al Pala de André, di fronte all’ingresso della biglietteria. Nel grande spazio all’esterno del rinnovato Expo Marathon Village verrà creata una bellissima atmosfera di festa e colori arricchita anche dalla divertentissima maratonina a 6 zampe della Dogs & Run. Il via alle ore 10.15 per una mattina da ricordare.

When sport is within everyone’s reach, it is aggregation, it is friendship, it is family.

When sport is not just competitive spirit, but also the pleasure of being together and taking part in an event that runs through the streets of the city on a day of celebration between families and school groups, because sport is always for everyone!

On Saturday 11 November we will go back to walking or running together with mum, dad, uncles and grandparents with the Family Run, approximately 2 km of well-being and smiles.

Like last year, the event will take place at the Pala de André, in front of the ticket office entrance. In the large space outside the renovated Expo Marathon Village, a beautiful atmosphere of celebration and colors will be created, also enriched by the very fun 6-legged marathon of Dogs & Run. The start is at 10.15am for a morning to remember.

PERCHÈ CORRERE COL TUO MIGLIOR AMICO È ANCOR PIÙ BELLO Metti una giornata con il tuo cane. Metti una giornata nella quale poter pensare solo a voi, a stare insieme. Magari circondati da tanti altri amici di ogni taglia, razza ed età! Metti una carovana chiassosa, e colorata anticipata dall’abbaiare felice dei suoi “partecipanti”.

Ecco la Dogs & Run, la cosiddetta Maratonina a 6 zampe dove i cani e le loro famiglie possono sfilare gli uni al fianco degli altri. Un momento tutto per voi, sabato 11 novembre dalle ore 12 circa (al termine della Family Run) sempre di fronte all’ingresso della biglietteria del Pala de André.

E per tutti i partecipanti una borsa ricca di omaggi e gadget coi quali trascorrere ancor più tempo insieme al vostro miglior amico.

CORRENDO SENZA FRONTIERE, ANCHE LA DISABILITÀ SCENDE IN STRADA

Come sempre, la Maratona di Ravenna, sarà un appuntamento aperto davvero a tutti, senza alcuna distinzione. Questo è l’obiettivo anche dell’iniziativa “Correndo senza Frontiere”, nata per aprire le porte a tutte le persone con disabilità.

Un progetto nato all’interno del “Coordinamento per l’attività motoria e sportiva adattata alla persona con disabilità intellettiva” creato nel 2016 dal CSI di Ravenna e dalla Cooperativa Sociale “La Pieve”, rivolto ad atleti con disabilità e dedicato alla promozione dell’inclusione sociale.

All’insegna dello slogan “lo sport è per tutti”, un breve tragitto che porterà gli atleti disabili, ed i loro accompagnatori, a percorrere circa 3 km del percorso della Maratona nel centro storico, sino ad arrivare al traguardo di Via di Roma prima del sopraggiungere dei runner delle diverse distanze. Pronti agli applausi??

MARATHON BABY PARKING Anche quest’anno la Maratona vuole rivolgere un pensiero in più alle famiglie in modo che tutti, sia grandi che piccini, si divertano nella giornata speciale del 12 Novembre: ritorna il Baby Parking per tutti i bambini dai 4 ai 12 anni, un’area ricreativa riservata e sorvegliata.

Tutti gli iscritti, previa compilazione ed invio del modulo che potete trovare nel sito, possono affidarsi gratuitamente al servizio di “Marathon Baby Parking”, lo staff del CSI di Ravenna si occuperà di intrattenere i bambini, mentre i loro genitori corrono sulle strade di Ravenna.

Uno spazio all’interno del Pala de André appositamente creato per i nostri bambini in cui professionisti che lavorano nell’ambito educativo aiuteranno i vostri piccoli ad esplorare le loro potenzialità attraverso percorsi sensoriali ed attività di gioco. Tutti i nostri professionisti sia dell’area della riabilitazione (logopedisti, fisioterapisti, terapista della neuro e psicomotricità infantile, ecc) che dell’area tecnica (tecnico di radiologia, igienisti, ecc) insegneranno ai vostri bambini attraverso giochi educativi le basi per la prevenzione primaria della salute e la conoscenza del corpo umano.

Un servizio gratuito e compreso nella quota di iscrizione all’evento.

Il servizio sarà disponibile Domenica 13 Novembre dalle ore 8.00 fino alle ore 16.00.

BECAUSE RUNNING WITH YOUR BEST FRIEND IS EVEN MORE BEAUTIFUL Have a day with your dog. Have a day in which you can think only of you, to be together. Maybe surrounded by many other friends of all sizes, races and ages! Place a noisy, colorful caravan anticipated by the happy barking of its “participants”.

Here is the Dogs & Run, the so-called 6-legged Marathon where dogs and their families can parade alongside each other. A moment just for you, Saturday 11 November from around 12pm (at the end of the Family Run) always in front of the entrance to the Pala de André ticket office.

And for all participants a bag full of gifts and gadgets with which to spend even more time with your best friend.

RUNNING WITHOUT BARRIERS, EVEN DISABILITY GET DOWN THE STREET

As always, the Ravenna Marathon will be an event open to everyone, without distinction. This is also the goal of the “Running without Barriers” initiative, created to open the doors to all people with disabilities.

A project born within the “Coordination for motor and sports activities adapted to people with intellectual disabilities” created in 2016 by the CSI of Ravenna and the Social Cooperative “La Pieve”, aimed at athletes with disabilities and dedicated to the promotion of social inclusion.

Under the slogan “sport is for everyone”, a short journey that will take disabled athletes, and their companions, to cover about 3 km of the Marathon route in the historic center, until reaching the finish line in Via di Roma before of the arrival of runners of different distances. Ready to cheer them?

MARATHON BABY PARKING Also this year the Marathon wants to give an extra thought to families so that everyone, both adults and children, have fun on the special day of November 12th: Baby Parking is back for all children aged 4 to 12, an area private and supervised recreational area.

All members, after completing and sending the form that you can find on the site, can rely for free on the “Marathon Baby Parking” service, the staff of the CSI of Ravenna will take care of entertaining the children, while their parents run on the streets of Ravenna.

A space inside the Pala de André specially created for our children where professionals working in the educational field will help your little ones to explore their potential through sensory paths and play activities. All our professionals both in the rehabilitation area (speech therapists, physiotherapists, child neuro and psychomotor therapist, etc.) and in the technical area (radiology technician, hygienists, etc.) will teach your children the basics of prevention through educational games. primary health and knowledge of the human body.

A RENEWED ROUTE, BUT ALWAYS POINTED WITH UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE MONUMENTS The 24th edition of the Ravenna Marathon will have a totally renewed route.

The new starting location will be the Pala de André, while the arrival will remain in via di Roma. Like every year, the route of the Ravenna Marathon will live up to its label of “City of Art” and, by choice of the Ravenna Runners Club and the Municipal Administration of Ravenna, will touch all eight early Christian sites registered as UNESCO World Heritage since 1996 and therefore, a World Heritage Site. Eight jewels of history and art that Ravenna opens to the world no longer as its heritage, but as an asset of the whole humanity.

MAUSOLEO DI TEODORICO – Dopo aver solcato per la prima volta nella storia della Maratona di Ravenna il quartiere San Giuseppe (ex Villaggio Anic), circa al nono km si può ammirare il Mausoleo di Teodorico, fatto costruire dallo stesso Teodorico nel 520 d.C. come propria sepoltura, interamente realizzato in blocchi di pietra d’Istria. La costruzione si articola in due ordini sovrapposti, entrambi decagonali. Al di sopra del mausoleo si innalza una grande cupola monolitica, coronata da dodici anse recanti i nomi di otto Apostoli e di quattro Evangelisti.

BATTISTERO DEGLI ARIANI - Entrati nel meraviglioso centro storico della città, il percorso incontra il Battistero degli Ariani. L’edificio, interrato per circa 2,3 metri, ha forma ottagonale e presenta quattro piccole absidi all’esterno. Al suo interno l’unica parte ancora decorata è la cupola rivestita di mosaici raffiguranti il corteo dei dodici apostoli e il battesimo di Cristo, immerso nell’acqua fino ai fianchi.

MAUSOLEO DI GALLA PLACIDIA – Successivamente tutte e tre le distanze proseguono sino a sfiorare il Mausoleo di Galla Placidia circa al tredicesimo km. Un edificio che emana un’atmosfera magica. Le innumerevoli stelle della cupola hanno colpito nel corso dei secoli la fantasia e la sensibilità dei visitatori tanto che si narra che Cole Porter, in viaggio di nozze a Ravenna, rimase talmente colpito dall’atmosfera del piccolo mausoleo e dalle sue stelle, da comporre la sua famosissima canzone Night and Day. BASILICA DI SAN VITALE - Pochi metri ed ecco la Basilica di San Vitale, uno dei monumenti più importanti dell’arte paleocristiana in Italia. Fondata su ordine del vescovo Ecclesio, la basilica a pianta ottagonale fu consacrata nel 548 dall’arcivescovo Massimiano. All’interno magnifiche decorazioni musive nell’abside, e affreschi barocchi nella cupola.

CAPPELLA DI S. ANDREA - Proseguendo si arriva dinanzi al Duomo, cattedrale relativamente recente costruita tra il 1734 e il 1745, sede dell’arcidiocesi di Ravenna e Cervia. Nel vicino Palazzo Arcivescovile è situata la Cappella di S. Andrea, unico esempio di cappella arcivescovile paleocristiana giunta integra a noi, costruita da Pietro II e dedicata originariamente a Cristo e in seguito intitolata a Sant’Andrea, le cui reliquie erano state trasportate da Costantinopoli a Ravenna nel VI secolo.

BATTISTERO NEONIANO - Costeggiando il Duomo si transita davanti al Battistero Neoniano, edificato probabilmente attorno agli inizi del V secolo. Al tempo del vescovo Neone fu oggetto di importanti lavori di restauro che portarono al rifacimento della cupola, ma soprattutto alla realizzazione della decorazione interna che oggi possiamo ammirare.

BASILICA DI SANT’APOLLINARE IN CLASSE - Al 21esimo km, il percorso della Maratona approda alla Basilica di Sant’Apollinare in Classe, definita il più grande esempio di basilica paleocristiana. Nonostante le spoliazioni subite nel corso dei secoli, la chiesa preserva la bellezza della struttura originaria ed è ammirata per gli splendidi mosaici policromi del suo catino absidale e gli antichi sarcofagi marmorei degli arcivescovi lungo le navate.

BASILICA DI SANT’APOLLINARE NUOVO – Manca poco all’arrivo, ma le meraviglie non sono finite, perché a pochi metri dal traguardo l’ultimo sito UNESCO che il percorso tocca è la Basilica di Sant’Apollinare Nuovo. Fatta erigere da Teodorico accanto al suo palazzo, fu in origine adibita a Chiesa palatina, di culto ariano. Secondo la tradizione, nel IX secolo le reliquie di Sant’Apollinare furono traslate qui dalla Basilica di Classe e in quell’occasione ricevette la sua intitolazione a Sant’Apollinare, detta «Nuovo» per distinguerla da un’altra chiesa dallo stesso nome. Al suo interno la meravigliosa decorazione di mosaico parietale bizantino.

MAUSOLEUM OF THEODORIC – After having crossed the San Giuseppe district (former Anic Village) for the first time in the history of the Ravenna Marathon, around the ninth km you can admire the Mausoleum of Theodoric, built

by Theodoric himself in 520 AD. as one’s own tomb, entirely made of Istrian stone blocks. The construction is divided into two superimposed orders, both decagonal. Above the mausoleum rises a large monolithic dome, crowned by twelve handles bearing the names of eight Apostles and four Evangelists.

ARIANI BAPTISTERY - Once entered the marvelous historic center of the city, the route meets the Arian Baptistery. The building, approximately 2.3 meters underground, has an octagonal shape and has four small apses on the outside. Inside, the only part still decorated is the dome covered in mosaics depicting the procession of the twelve apostles and the baptism of Christ, immersed in water up to his hips.

MAUSOLEUM OF GALLA PLACIDIA – Subsequently all three distances continue until they touch the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia at around the thirteenth km. A building that exudes a magical atmosphere.

The countless stars of the dome have struck the imagination and sensitivity of visitors over the centuries, so much so that it is said that Cole Porter, on his honeymoon in Ravenna, was so struck by the atmosphere of the small mausoleum and its stars that he composed the his very famous song Night and Day. CHAPEL OF S. ANDREA - Continuing you arrive in front of the Duomo, a relatively recent cathedral built between 1734 and 1745, seat of the archdiocese of Ravenna and Cervia. The Chapel of St. Andrew is located in the nearby Archbishop’s Palace, the only example of an early Christian archbishop’s chapel that has survived intact, built by Peter II and originally dedicated to Christ and later dedicated to Saint Andrew, whose relics had been transported from Constantinople to Ravenna in the 6th century.

NEONIAN BAPTISTRY - Walking alongside the Cathedral you pass in front of the Neonian Baptistery, probably built around the beginning of the 5th century. At the time of Bishop Neone it was the subject of important restoration works which led to the reconstruction of the dome, but above all to the creation of the internal decoration that we can admire today.

BASILICA OF SANT’APOLLINARE IN CLASSE - At the 21st km, the Marathon route arrives at the Basilica of Sant’Apollinare in Classe, defined as the greatest example of an early Christian Basilica. Despite the plundering suffered over the centuries, the church preserves the beauty of the original structure and is admired for the splendid polychrome mosaics of its apse basin and the ancient marble sarcophagi of the archbishops along the naves.

BASILICA OF SANT’APOLLINARE NUOVO - It’s almost time to arrive, but the wonders aren’t over, because a few meters from the finish line the last UNESCO site that the route touches is the Basilica of Sant’Apollinare Nuovo. Built by Theodoric next to his palace, it was originally used as a Palatine Church of Arian worship. According to tradition, in the 9th century the relics of Sant’Apollinare were moved here from the Basilica of Classe and on that occasion it received its dedication to Sant’Apollinare, called “New” to distinguish it from another church of the same name. Ravenna è senza dubbio una delle città più importanti della storia d’Italia, a partire dalla presenza della tomba del grande Dante Alighieri, che nella città di Ravenna viene venerato in ogni suo angolo. Pensa che ogni giorno dell’anno, alle 18.00 davanti al suo monumento funebre viene recitato un canto della Divina Commedia e appena finito suona la campana del poeta 13 volte a ricordare la notte tra il 13 e il 14 settembre 1321, giorno della morte del Sommo Poeta. Ma allora perché Ravenna è una delle città più importanti della storia d’Italia?

Ravenna è stata capitale per ben tre volte: capitale dell’Impero Romano d’Occidente, capitale del regno Ostrogoto e capitale dell’Esarcato d’Italia, in pratica tutte le volte che arrivava un nuovo popolo o un nuovo regno, Ravenna ne diventava il simbolo, la capitale. Ma perché succedeva questo? In particolare, per via della sua posizione incredibile: infatti, Ravenna era protetta da una parte dal mare e dall’altra dalla palude, e per questo era praticamente impossibile conquistarla ed attaccarla. Pensa che dove oggi si trova la frazione di Classe, dove è presente uno dei Monumenti dichiarati Patrimonio dell’Unesco, la Basilica di Sant’Apollinare in Classe, una volta c’era una delle flotti più importanti della penisola italiana. La parola classe, infatti, deriva dal latino “Classis” che significa flotta. Ravenna aveva, quindi, il suo porto, era stata costruita sull’acqua e alcune tracce di quella conformazione si possono vedere ancora oggi. All’interno della Chiesa di San Francesco, nel centro storico della città, si trova la famosissima cripta allagata, con tanto di mosaici sul fondo e pesciolini rossi che ogni giorno viene visitata da migliaia di turisti. La testimonianza più importante che abbiamo di quel periodo così florido sono gli otto Monumenti Paleocristiani che tra l’altro puoi ammirare correndo la Maratona di Ravenna. In ogni caso, però, devi andare a vistarli e vedrai che guardandoli attentamente noterai che tutti e otto i Monumenti hanno una caratteristica in comune molto particolare, da fuori possono sembrare una chiesa qualunque, ma non ti aspetteresti mai che al loro interno potrai trovare delle vere e proprie meraviglie, i mosaici di Ravenna! A pensare soprattutto che questi mosaici risalgono addirittura a prima dell’anno mille, nel quinto e sesto secolo, ma chissà quanto ci hanno messo per fare un’opera d’arte così bella! Questo non lo sappiamo, ma possiamo dirti che questi mosaici sono fra i più estesi e tra i meglio conservati di tutto il mondo. Ora corri a visitare questa bellissima città, poi non dirci che non te l’avevamo detto!

Ravenna is undoubtedly one of the most important cities in the history of Italy, starting from the presence of the tomb of the great Dante Alighieri, who is venerated in every corner of the city of Ravenna. Just think that every day of the year, at 6.00 pm in front of his funeral monument a song from the Divine Comedy is recited and as soon as it is finished the poet’s bell rings 13 times to remember the night between 13 and 14 September 1321, the day of the death of the Supreme Poet. But then why is Ravenna one of the most important cities in the history of Italy? Ravenna was the capital three times: capital of the Western Roman Empire, capital of the Ostrogothic kingdom and capital of the Exarchate of Italy, practically every time a new people or a new kingdom arrived, Ravenna became its symbol, the capital. But why did this happen? In particular, due to its incredible position: in fact, Ravenna was protected on one side by the sea and on the other by the swamp, and for this reason it was practically impossible to conquer and attack it. Consider that where the hamlet of Classe is located today, where there is one of the monuments declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Basilica of Sant’Apollinare in Classe, once there was one of the most important fleets on the Italian peninsula. The word class, in fact, derives from the Latin “Classis” which means fleet. Ravenna therefore had its port, it was built on water and some traces of that conformation can still be seen today. Inside the Church of San Francesco, in the historic center of the city, there is the famous flooded crypt, complete with mosaics on the bottom and goldfish, which is visited by thousands of tourists every day. The most important testimony we have of that flourishing period are the eight early Christian monuments which, among other things, you can admire while running the Ravenna Marathon. In each case, however, you have to go and visit them and you will see that by looking at them carefully you will notice that all eight monuments have a very particular characteristic in common, from the outside they may seem like any other church, but you would never expect that inside them you will be able to find real and own wonders, the mosaics of Ravenna! Especially considering that these mosaics date back even before the year one thousand, in the fifth and sixth centuries, but who knows how long it took them to create such a beautiful work of art! We don’t know this, but we can tell you that these mosaics are among the largest and best preserved in the world. Now run and visit this beautiful city, then don’t tell us we didn’t tell you!

3 MAR - MUSEO D’ARTE DELLA CITTÀ DI RAVENNA: Il Museo accoglie quadri e mosaici contemporanei. Dal 14 ottobre 2023 al 14 gennaio 2024, nel lungo periodo che comprende il weekend della Maratona di Ravenna, il museo nell’ambito della VIII edizione della Biennale di Mosaico Contemporaneo, accoglierà BURRIRAVENNAORO. L’importante mostra del Maestro Alberto Burri che, tra la fine degli Ottanta e gli anni Novanta, aveva avviato una intensa azione pittorica con diversi cicli di opere ispirate alla storia e alla cultura artistica di Ravenna.

Dante a Ravenna è abbastanza controversa. Le sue spoglie furono pare infatti trafugate, poi ritrovate e spostate per avere definitivamente pace in quella che è chiamata “la tomba di Dante”, voluta dal cardinale Luigi Valenti Gonzaga sulla fine del 1700.

3 MAR - ART MUSEUM OF THE CITY OF RAVENNA: The Museum houses contemporary paintings and mosaics. From 14 October 2023 to 14 January 2024, in the long period that includes the Ravenna Marathon weekend, the museum will welcome BURRIRAVENNAORO as part of the VIII edition of the Biennial of Contemporary Mosaic. The important exhibition of Maestro Alberto Burri who, between the end of the Eighties and the Nineties, had started an intense pictorial action with various cycles of works inspired by the wonderful history and artistic culture of Ravenna.

5 BASILICA DI SANT’APOLLINARE NUOVO: Da non confondere con la Basilica di Sant’Apollinare in Classe, fu voluta da Teodorico nel VI secolo e qui vennero poi spostate le reliquie del patrono di Ravenna. È un’opera importante perché è l’unica testimonianza totalmente intatta del culto ariano dei Goti, nel quale la figura di Cristo è sia divina che terrena.

It is an important work because it is the only totally intact testimony of the Aryan cult of the Goths, in which the figure of Christ is both divine and earthly.

6 DANTE’S TOMB: The story of Dante’s death and burial in Ravenna is quite controversial. His remains were apparently stolen, then found and moved to finally have peace in what is called “Dante’s tomb”, commissioned by Cardinal Luigi Valenti Gonzaga in the late 1700s.

LA MEDAGLIA 2023

THE MEDAL 2023 A medal that once again takes inspiration from the iconographic heritage of the Byzantine mosaic while maintaining a strong link with the tradition that continues from 2011 to today. The medal of the Marathon of Ravenna City of Art 2023 is assembled by hand as always in the Annafietta artisan workshop a stone’s throw from the Basilica of S. Vitale and takes up the detail of one of the Byzantine mosaics that UNESCO has declared a World Heritage Site.

In this case, the inspiration comes from the embroidery of the chasuble of Sant’Apollinare, the first bishop of Ravenna, portrayed in the center of the apse of the Basilica of Sant’Apollinare in Classe. The robe of the patron saint of the city of Ravenna is embroidered with small details in gold tiles that resemble small bees. We are in the 1st century AD. when Peter, the first Pope of the Catholic church, decided to send Apollinaris to Ravenna to convert the city to Christianity. He chose an evangelizer like Apollinaris, therefore a person gifted with the gift of speech and eloquence of which the Bees are the symbol. Due to this strong bond with the city of Ravenna, the Bees, enriched with beautiful and shiny mosaic tiles, will be the conclusion of the runners’ journey through the streets of Ravenna on 12 November. This precise detail of the Ape is not only linked to the inspiration of one of the main monuments of the city of Ravenna, but also sends out a message full of meaning. Bees are animals that live in an organized society composed of a particular diligence and industriousness that make coexistence the true strength of the group. For this reason, the medal features a motto in Latin “Vis Unita Fortior” translated as “Unity is strength”, a thought that reflects the particular importance that the Bees place on the group and which also becomes central in the organization of a big event like the Ravenna Marathon.

Also for 2023 the medal will be offered in three different denominations. The largest for the 42K Marathon finishers, a slightly smaller version will be for runners who cross the finish line in the Half Marathon, finally the smaller version will be produced for the Martini Good Morning Ravenna 10K. An evolution that started in 2011 when a few hundred medals were produced only for the 42 km race, continued in 2014 with the creation of a medal also for the participants in the 21 km and finally reached maturity with the third version for the Good Morning since 2015. Furthermore, as with the last edition, it will be possible to have the name and time with which the runner finished the race engraved on the back of the medal, so as to make the medal a unique and totally personal souvenir.

WORLD ATHLETICS

La World Athletics, precedentemente denominata International Association of Athletics Federations o IAAF, è la federazione internazionale dell’atletica leggera che si occupa di monitorare le federazioni nazionali e di organizzare le competizioni internazionali. Possiede anche l’incarico di normare le regole per lo sport, della certificazione delle strutture e del riconoscimento e della gestione dei primati mondiali. Le World Athletics Label Road Races sono corse su strada annuali patrocinate dalla World Athletics come le più importanti nel loro genere e quest’anno la Maratona di Ravenna ha ricevuto questa label! “Un’etichetta World Athletics denota standard elevati nell’organizzazione dell’evento, nella sicurezza e nell’esperienza dei corridori. Inoltre, certifica la qualità dell’applicazione del Regolamento World Athletics e in particolare del Regolamento di gara e del tecnico. Infine, assicura che l’evento sia dalla parte del sostegno delle autorità pubbliche all’evento e sia favorevole all’impegno finanziario a favore dell’antidoping”.

Queste sono le parole riprese dal regolamento ufficiale delle gare riconosciute da World Athtletics e per Maratona di Ravenna è un onore aver ricevuto un riconoscimento così importante!

ABBOTT WORLD MARATHON MAJORS

Anche quest’anno la Maratona di Ravenna farà parte del calendario globale degli eventi di qualificazione per le classifiche mondiali Abbott World Marathon Majors Wanda Age Group. Il circuito, che permette a runner dai 40 anni in poi di guadagnare punti classifica per la partecipazione all’Abbott WMM Wanda Age Group World Championships del 2024. Da Auckland a Città del Messico, da Pechino a Mumbai, da Mosca a Città del Capo, passando per Los Angeles, Montreal, Dublino, Helsinki, Amsterdam, Toronto, Singapore, Tel Aviv, San Paolo, Washington e anche Ravenna. Un riconoscimento che giunge come ulteriore conferma della crescita di un evento divenuto nel tempo di importanza strategica per tutto il territorio locale e non solo.

AIMS WORLD RUNNING

La Maratona di Ravenna Città d’Arte fa parte delle gare AIMS. L’AIMS è stata saldamente fondata nel maggio 1982 con il suo primo Congresso a Londra con l’obiettivo di formare una grande associazione. Le gare possono aderire all’AIMS come membri associati o a pieno titolo. Lo status di associato è destinato alle nuove gare con meno di due anni di vita e dopo due anni come membro associato, le gare devono passare allo stato di membro a pieno titolo e Maratona di Ravenna è tutt’oggi membro a pieno titolo. I membri devono far misurare i loro percorsi da un misuratore AIMS/World Athletics accreditato e sono tenuti a offrire un tavolo o uno stand all’esposizione della gara ad uso esclusivo degli altri membri AIMS. Allo stesso modo, i membri possono inviare materiale promozionale della gara da esporre e distribuire da tali stand degli altri membri AIMS. In questo modo AIMS offre una piattaforma dalla quale i membri possono promuovere efficacemente il loro evento sui mercati esteri.

It also has the task of regulating the rules for sport, the certification of structures and the recognition and management of world records. The World Athletics Label Road Races are annual road races sponsored by World Athletics as the most important of their kind and this year the Ravenna Marathon received this label! “A World Athletics label denotes high standards in event organisation, safety and runner experience. Furthermore, it certifies the quality of the application of the World Athletics Regulations and in particular of the Competition Regulations and of the coach. Finally, it ensures that the event is on the side of public authorities’ support for the event and is conducive to financial commitment to anti-doping.”

These are the words taken from the official regulations of the races recognized by World Athletics and for Maratona di Ravenna it is an honor to have received such an important recognition!

Also this year the Ravenna Marathon will be part of the global calendar of qualifying events for the Abbott World Marathon Majors Wanda Age Group world rankings. The circuit, which allows runners aged 40 and over to earn ranking points for participation in the 2024 Abbott WMM Wanda Age Group World Championships. AIMS WORLD RUNNING

The Ravenna City of Art Marathon is part of the AIMS races. AIMS was firmly established in May 1982 with its first Congress in London with the aim of forming a large association. Races can join AIMS as associate or full members. Associate status is intended for new races less than two years old and after two years as an associate member, races must move to full member status and Maratona di Ravenna is still a full member today.

Members must have their courses measured by an accredited AIMS/ World Athletics measurer and are required to offer a table or booth at the expo of the race for the exclusive use of other AIMS members.

Likewise, members may submit competition promotional materials for display and distribution from such other AIMS member stands.

In this way AIMS offers a platform from which members can effectively promote their event in foreign markets.

Una medaglia che torna ad ispirarsi al patrimonio iconografico del mosaico bizantino mantenendo saldo il legame con la tradizione che continua a correre dal 2011 ad oggi. La medaglia della Maratona di Ravenna Città d’Arte 2023 viene assemblata come sempre a mano nel laboratorio artigianale di Annafietta a due passi dalla Basilica di S. Vitale e riprende il dettaglio di uno dei mosaici bizantini che l’Unesco ha dichiarato Patrimonio Mondiale dell’Umanità. In questo caso, l’ispirazione arriva dai ricami della casula di Sant’Apollinare, primo vescovo di Ravenna, ritratto al centro dell’abside della Basilica di Sant’Apollinare in Classe. La veste del patrono della città di Ravenna è ricamata con piccoli particolari in tessere d’oro che ricordano delle piccole Api. Siamo nel I secolo d.C. quando Pietro, primo Papa della chiesa Cattolica, decise di mandare Apollinare a Ravenna per convertire la città al Cristianesimo.

Egli scelse un evangelizzatore come Apollinare, quindi una persona dotata del dono della parola e dell’eloquenza di cui proprio le Api sono il simbolo. Per questo forte legame con la città di Ravenna, l’Ape, arricchita da bellissime e lucenti tessere in mosaico, sarà la conclusione del viaggio dei runner tra le vie ravennati il 12 novembre. Questo preciso particolare dell’Ape non si lega poi solamente all’ispirazione di uno dei monumenti principali della città di Ravenna, ma lancia anche un messaggio pieno di significato. Le Api sono animali che vivono in una società organizzata composta da una particolare diligenza e operosità che rendono la coesistenza la vera forza del gruppo. Per questo motivo sulla medaglia viene riportato un motto in lingua latina “Vis Unita Fortior” tradotto come “L’unione fa la forza”, un pensiero che riprende la particolare importanza che le Api ripongono nel gruppo e che diventa centrale anche nell’organizzazione di un grande evento come la Maratona di Ravenna.

Anche per il 2023 la medaglia verrà proposta in tre tagli diversi. La più grande per i finisher della Maratona sui 42K, una versione leggermente più piccola toccherà ai runner che taglieranno il traguardo nella Half Marathon, infine la versione minore sarà prodotta per la Martini Good Morning Ravenna 10K. Un’evoluzione partita nel 2011 quando vennero prodotte poche centinaia di medaglie solamente per la prova sui 42 Km, proseguita nel 2014 con la creazione di una medaglia anche per i partecipanti alla 21 Km e definitivamente giunta a maturazione con la terza versione per la Good Morning dal 2015.

Inoltre, come per la scorsa edizione sarà possibile far incidere sul retro della medaglia il nome e il tempo con cui il runner ha terminato la gara, in modo tale da rendere la medaglia un ricordo unico e totalmente personale.

Se parliamo di cucina ravennate e, quindi, di cucina romagnola, non possiamo che cominciare con sua maestà. È la regina dello street food, piatto tipico di Ravenna e di tutta la Romagna, amata in Italia ma non solo: parliamo della piadina. Nata come un pane “povero” condito senza lievito, oggi è divenuto il fiore all’occhiello dell’intero territorio romagnolo. Per dirla come Giovanni Pascoli è: «il pane, anzi il cibo nazionale dei Romagnoli». La piadina originale si prepara con lo strutto, un tempo condimento principale perché economico. Oggi si sostituisce sempre più sovente con il più leggero olio d’oliva.

La piadina romagnola si può farcire in ogni modo e ogni giorno va assaggiata con diversi ingredienti, come mortadella o prosciutto.

E se vai di fretta? Un panino al volo? Ma no, una piadina al volo! In ogni angolo della città di Ravenna troverai i chioschi che in pochi minuti ti prepareranno una bella piadina crudo, squacquerone e rucola, un classico intramontabile, o un bel crescione pomodoro e mozzarella da gustare fino alla fine! Insomma, che dire… se vieni a Ravenna devi assolutamente assaggiarla!

Per chi ama stare a tavola, questo è il posto giusto. Infatti, a Ravenna potrai mangiare la specialità della pasta fatta in casa, che in Romagna è una vera e propria cultura portata avanti da intere generazioni.

Dalla sfoglia composta solo da farina e uova si ricavano i primi piatti della cucina romagnola come tagliatelle, strozzapreti e gli strichetti. Non può, però, mancare il simbolo della pasta fatta in casa ravennate e romagnola, il cappelletto! Un tempo era usanza gustare i cappelletti durante le festività natalizie come portata principale del pranzo. Era davvero il momento più atteso dell’anno, perché essendo un piatto ricco, veniva preparato e gustato, nel corso dell’anno solo in poche occasioni speciali. Nonostante questo, non c’era famiglia, che rinunciasse ai cappelletti durante il pranzo di Natale. La preparazione avveniva solitamente la sera della vigilia e coinvolgeva l’intera famiglia, c’era chi stendeva la sfoglia, chi metteva il ripieno e chi aveva il “sacro” compito di chiudere il cappelletto. In Romagna, la “morte” del cappelletto è in un buon brodo caldo e profumato, ma è anche usanza accompagnare i cappelletti con un ragù classico, sempre fatto rigorosamente in casa!

Tra i secondi di carne romagnoli è da non perdere il coniglio in porchetta, tipico della campagna ravennate.

Si tratta di carne di coniglio profumata con erbe aromatiche, tra cui principalmente finocchietto e rosmarino, poi avvolta nella porchetta con una stuzzicante farcitura, il tutto legato da uno spago.

La sua preparazione è lenta, richiede del tempo… ma il risultato vale la fatica!

Di solito si serve con contorno di patatine fritte, melanzane e pomodori, magari accostando al tutto un buon vino rosso corposo come il Sangiovese di Romagna DOC. È una ricetta ricca e saporita, perfetta per un pranzo domenicale o nei giorni di festa, come quello della Maratona di Ravenna.

Un ultimo consiglio, dopo aver partecipato alla Maratona di Ravenna, corri in uno dei ristoranti della nostra città per goderti queste pietanze buonissime!

THE ART OF EATING WELL IN RAVENNA! If we talk about Ravenna cuisine and, therefore, Romagna cuisine, we can only start with his majesty. It is the queen of street food, a typical dish of Ravenna and all of Romagna, loved in Italy but not only: we are talking about piadina. Born as a “poor” bread seasoned without yeast, today it has become the flagship of the entire Romagna area. To put it as Giovanni Pascoli puts it: “the bread, or rather the national food of the Romagnoli”. The original piadina is prepared with lard, once the main condiment because it was cheap. Today it is increasingly replaced with the lighter olive oil. The Romagna piadina can be filled in any way and should be tasted every day with different ingredients, such as mortadella or ham. What if you’re in a hurry? A quick sandwich?

But no, a quick piadina! In every corner of the city of Ravenna you will find kiosks that in just a few minutes will prepare you a nice raw piadina, squacquerone and rocket, a timeless classic, or a nice watercress, tomato and mozzarella to enjoy until the end! In short, what can I say…. if you come to Ravenna you absolutely must try it!

For those who love dining, this is the right place. In fact, in Ravenna you can eat the specialty of homemade pasta, which in Romagna is a real culture carried forward by entire generations.

The first courses of Romagna cuisine such as tagliatelle, strozzapreti and strichetti are made from the pastry made only of flour and eggs. However, the symbol of homemade pasta from Ravenna and Romagna, the cappelletto, cannot be missing! It was once customary to enjoy cappelletti during the Christmas holidays as the main course for lunch. It was truly the most awaited moment of the year, because being a rich dish, it was prepared and enjoyed only on a few special occasions during the year. Despite this, there was no family who gave up cappelletti during Christmas lunch. The preparation usually took place on Christmas Eve and involved the whole family, there were those who rolled out the pastry, those who put the filling and those who had the “sacred” task of closing the cappelletto. In Romagna, the “death” of the cappelletti is in a good, hot and fragrant broth, but it is also customary to accompany the cappelletti with a classic ragù, always strictly homemade!

It is rabbit meat flavored with aromatic herbs, mainly fennel and rosemary, then wrapped in porchetta with a tantalizing filling, all tied with string.

Its preparation is slow, it takes time... but the result is worth the effort!

It is usually served with a side dish of chips, aubergines and tomatoes, perhaps accompanied by a good full-bodied red wine such as Sangiovese di Romagna DOC. It is a rich and tasty recipe, perfect for a Sunday lunch or on holidays, such as that of the Ravenna Marathon.

One last piece of advice, after participating in the Ravenna Marathon, run to one of the restaurants in our city to enjoy these delicious dishes!

Il nome Invader ti dice qualcosa?

Does the name Invader mean anything to you?

Those who don’t know the name of this French artist may know Space Invaders, the 1978 Japanese video game that inspired him.

Maybe the name isn’t known to you, but while walking through the streets of the city of Ravenna you have already seen its pixelated aliens. Invader is a French artist famous throughout the world: his works are numerous in Paris, where he lives, but they can be found in metropolises in every corner of the planet, such as New York, Bangkok, Marrakech, Sao Paulo.

His artistic technique involves the installation of colored tiles that give life to small mosaic representations, as if they were pixelated. When he came to Ravenna, Invader was very impressed by the city, so much so that it inspired some of his small installations in the streets of the center and beyond. In all, the artist left 40 works in two waves. Going in search of them is very stimulating, especially if you choose to participate in the FlashInvaders game, created by the artist himself. This app makes searching for its mosaics seem like a real treasure hunt!

Each photographed work gives the player points and the image is posted on the artist’s official website in real time. In fact, according to the artist himself in Ravenna it is possible to score 1550 points so much so that every time he creates a work, he decides to award it 10 to 100 points.

New Mosaic of Ravenna was the important exhibition that Invader brought to Hong Kong in 2017. On display at the exhibition were photos of the Ravenna installations and 25 deluxe editions of the New Mosaic of Ravenna guide, the artist’s seventh paper work. The guide was printed in 1500 copies together with a map indicating the location of all the space invaders.

Magari il nome non ti è noto, ma sicuramente camminando tra le vie della città di Ravenna ti è già capitato di vedere i suoi alieni pixelati. Invader è un artista francese celebre in tutto il mondo: numerosissime sono le sue opere a Parigi, dove vive, ma si possono scovare nelle metropoli di ogni angolo del pianeta, come New York, Bangkok, Marrakech, San Paolo.

La sua tecnica artistica prevede l’installazione di mattonelle colorate che danno vita a piccole raffigurazioni realizzate in mosaico, come se fossero pixelate. Quando venne a Ravenna, Invader rimase molto colpito dalla città, tanto da ispirargli alcune sue piccole installazioni per le vie del centro e non solo. In tutto, l’artista ha lasciato 40 opere in due ondate. Andare alla loro ricerca è molto stimolante, soprattutto se si sceglie di partecipare al gioco FlashInvaders, ideato dall’artista stesso. Questa applicazione fa sembrare la ricerca dei suoi mosaici una vera caccia al tesoro! Ogni opera fotografata dà al giocatore dei punti e l’immagine viene postata sul sito ufficiale dell’artista in tempo reale. Infatti, secondo l’artista stesso a Ravenna è possibile totalizzare 1550 punti tanto che ogni volta che crea un’opera, decide di attribuirle dai 10 ai 100 punti.

New Mosaic of Ravenna è stata l’importante mostra che Invader ha portato nel 2017 addirittura ad Hong Kong. Alla mostra erano esposte le foto delle installazioni ravennati e 25 edizioni deluxe della guida New Mosaic of Ravenna, settima opera cartacea dell’artista. La guida è stata stampata in 1500 esemplari insieme a una mappa con indicata la posizione di tutti gli space invaders.
