PERFORMANCE NOTES This is a piece in four movements overlapping each other. Movements may be performed separately. Start where indicated. Observe the lengths of pauses and sound elements valid for each movement – take appropriate practice to make them reasonably precise. Proceed freely, but only by neighbouring fields. Coordination takes place by means of the “waiting-space” placed a little into the beginning of Fragments section (so there is an overlap, but Whirlwinds must stop before leaving the waiting-space), and by means of the common silence after the Mountain section. Players arrive individually at the end. In addition to lengths of elements, certain other indications like legato/staccato and use of registers must be performed in an accurate way. Other properties, like “whirlwind”, “free contrast” (that is, something contrasting the overall sound of “whirlwinds”), “fragments” (“fragment” is also used in the meaning of “event” in Fragment section), “glimpses” etc. are metaphorical and should be interpreted in a creative way. If you do not find that something is missing in the overall sound when playing the Fragments events mentioning this, simply add something of your own choice carefully.
