ANMERKUNGEN

The composition “Veni, creator spiritus” after the Hymn by Hrabanus Maurus is a piano cycle in seven parts, in which parts I to III are connected to one another without break. Each part refers to the respective verse of the Pentecost hymn (“Come, Holy Ghost, Creator Blest”), both in the description of the simultaneous events as well as the successive narrative of musical, or “spiritual” experiences. These are to be understood as a development (with outbursts), in which the subject attempts to approach a phantasmagorical, inaccessible, landscape. The gradual progress of time that determines this procedure is constantly “disturbed” by the “world” (Nos. I to V). The following attempt to regain tone (No. VI) - the only place in the hymn that cites the Trinity - is at the same time the rhythmic mirror of No. II, the most “colourful” of the pieces. No. VII, Corale, completes the cycle with the dialectic result of the previous six pieces: the cautious attempt to remember the hymn in its original form once again.

The contrast between the pianist’s effort, visible to the spectator, and its acoustical result is the attempt to create, through the most exact indications for each action, a confrontation between the musical imagination of the player and the obstinate inner life of the piano.

Die Komposition “Veni, creator spiritus” nach dem Hymnus von Hrabanus Maurus ist ein siebenteiliger Klavierzyklus, in dem die Teile eins bis drei ohne Pause ineinander übergehen. Jeder Teil bezieht Stellung zu der entsprechenden Strophe des Pfingst-Liedes (deutsch: Komm, Gott, Schöpfer, Heiliger Geist), sowohl in der Bildhaftigkeit der simultanen Begebenheiten wie in der sukzessiven Abfolge der “Musiken”, der seelischen Ereignisse. Diese sind als Entwicklung (mit Ausbrüchen) zu verstehen, in der das Subjekt versucht, sich einer phantasmagorischen Landschaft, einer unbetretbaren, zu nähern. Die Allmählichkeit, die Zeit, die diesen Vorgang bestimmt, wird ständig von der “Welt” quasi gestört (I bis V). Der darauffolgende Versuch, wieder Ton zu gewinnen (VI), die einzige Stelle im Kirchenlied, in der die Dreieinigkeit erwähnt ist, bildet zugleich die rhythmische Spiegelung von II, dem “farbigsten” der Stücke. Nr. VII, Corale, beendet den Zyklus mit dem dialektischen Ergebnis der vorangegangenen sechs Stücke: dem zaghaften Versuch, sich noch einmal an das Lied in seiner Urform zu erinnern.

Der Kontrast zwischen der für den Zuschauer sichtbaren Anstrengung des Pianisten und dem akustischen Resultat seiner Mühe ist der Versuch, durch genaueste Angaben zu den einzelnen Aktionen eine Konfrontation zwischen den musikalischen Vorstellungen des Spielers und dem widerspenstigen Innenleben des Klaviers zu schaffen.
