PERFORMANCE NOTES Harp : dampen immediately : dampen the register indicated : fingernails : the strings clashing together

: to be repeated as fast as possible in a random way The two bottom strings are to be tuned Cb and D b all through the piece. Chords are to be played non arpeggio, unless otherwise indicated. In the first part of the second movement (bar 1 to 33), the register from to is to be dampened with a piece of felt of suitable length and thickness to obtain a sound similar to the lute register of a harpsichord. (See fig.)
