Dur. 15'

PERFORMANCE NOTES

Piano:

The pianist must be equipped with three wooden boards. Two of equal length: 22 centimeters long, and one 80 centimeters long. The long board should have two handles on the upper surface in order to controle the attack of the cluster chords, and soft felt covering the bottom surface. The short boards should have one handle each on the upper surface and also be covered with felt on the bottom surface. These boards can be borrowed from the composer in connection with performances.

Strings:

Strings usually play most pieces with vibrato and then occasionally, as a colour, play without or with only little vibrato. In this piece it should be opposite: in general, only play vibrato when asked for in the score. Vibrato is not forbidden, but is generally alien to the musical language of the piece. It must be up to the conducter to decide, if vibrato should be added occasionally, and where.

Balkan vibrato (clarinets): really loud exaggerated lip-vibrato.

Brass:

ask your fellow musicians about permission to play the loud dynamics during the concert. Especially in poor concert halls. But DO spare them during rehearsals!

repeat the section inside the brackets until next cue from conductor.
